However, thanks to reverse image searches, you can easily find the original source. Here we show you eight ways to perform a reverse image search from your iPhone or iPad.

Method 1: Using Visual Look Up in Photos

Apple allows users to detect objects from pictures they’ve saved on their iPhones. This is possible using the Visual Look Up feature that can be used to detect the type of object that’s present in a picture. The feature can be used to detect pets, plants, artworks, foods, and landmarks from a picture you have saved on your iPhone.

You can follow the steps below to use Visual Look Up on your iPhone.

Open the Photos app on your iPhone and select a photo that supports Visual Look Up.
You can check if a picture supports Visual Look Up by looking for the Visual Look Up button which is indicated by an ‘i’ icon with stars . If the picture doesn’t support it, you will only see the regular ‘i’ icon with no stars.

We tested Visual Look Up on a bunch of pictures and it was able to detect landmarks, plants, pets, and artworks.

Method 2: Using Google Images

Visual Lookup is useful only when searching for objects in an image since you cannot use it to reverse search an image you find on the web. If you wish to search an image from a webpage across the web for similar other images or relevant results, you can use Google Images to get your desired results.

Can you upload images to images.google.com?

While Google does offer an upload image tool to reverse search images in your library, it can only be accessed in the desktop version of Google Images. So you’ll either have to search it using your computer or use the “Request Desktop Site” option under the menu on Safari every time. You can simply use Method 3 below to easily upload images to images.google.com without the “Request Desktop Site” option hack.

Method 3: Using reverse.photos (upload images to Google Images easily)

Since Google doesn’t offer you a native way to upload images for reverse-searching (without using the “Request Desktop Site” option), you will have to rely on a third-party tool that gets you the functionality inside Google search. Open the Safari app on your iPhone and go to reverse.photos .

Method 4: Using Google Lens inside the Google app

Google announced the Google Lens app in 2017 as a visual recognition service that lets users search for items in their surroundings. On Safari, you can simply load the desktop websites instead of the mobile version and that will allow you to upload the image on the website.

First, head to images.google.com using Safari on your device.

Do remember that if you switch back to the mobile version, the page will refresh automatically. Hence the search results must be viewed in the desktop version only.

Can I use the same methods to reverse image search on Android devices?

I also use the Google IOS app, for something similar but not quite a revere image search.

It has a feature called Google Lens, which is in right upper side of search field (next to the mic icon) Once you click on the icon, lens mode opens with live camera view. From there you can point the camera at an item/object and it will overlay a small circle on ‘recognized’ objects. Alternatively you can click the tiny photo/landscape icon in the lens mode, and it allows you to select from photo library.

It doesn’t appear to have the ‘desktop/url paste option’ so it can only reverse search live camera image or saved photos.

Google lens also has live translate mode, image to text, plus shopping/dining mode for image recognition.

While I’m at it, another query: I have only hotspot internet, no WiFi, and I have been unable to update to 13 using two iPhones, tried multiple times (using up at least 8 gigs of data) with one set as a WiFi hotspot, and I’ve also tried doing via iTunes and the appropriate .ipsw file. Any suggestions? Yes, I could go hang around a free WiFi joint but I live in the sticks and it’d take hours.

Then, click the Paste image URL tab.

Insert your copied URL into the available space.

You can do this by right-clicking the text box and selecting “Paste”, or you can select the text box with your mouse and hit the keys “Command” (or “CTRL” on PC) and “V” simultaneously.

4. Explore Your Results

Once you click “Search by image”, you will see your uploaded photo at the top of the page along with some suggested keywords.

Next to the image, Google will also tell you if there are other sizes of the image available for you to download.

From there, you can explore similar images or check out websites that contain the image.

You can also choose to take a photo or browse your previous documents or screenshots when uploading a file.

4. Or, Paste The Image URL

If you don’t have the image saved on your phone, select the “Paste image URL” tab.

To obtain your picture’s URL, open the photo in your browser, hold the image down, and select “Copy.”

After that, paste your URL into the URL upload tab. This is done on most phones by double-tapping the search box and selecting “Paste.”

5. Explore Your Results

After you either upload your image or paste the URL, click the search icon.

The website will show you related searches, other available image sizes and websites containing the same picture.

Open your browser and go to images.google.com .

If you’re using Safari, click on the double “AA” icon on the left side of the browser search bar.

Reverse image searching can be a really useful tool. Whether you want to use an image on your website or blog and need to check its source, or find similar or different-sized version of an image you already have, you can reverse image search on your desktop, tablet or smartphone.

The best way to reverse image search depends on which search engine you use – for the purposes of this article we’ll look at the two most widely-used engines; Google and Bing .

How to reverse image search on Google

Reverse image search in Google is easy, but differs depending on whether you’re using a computer or laptop, or a smartphone.

To reverse image search in Google, you need to head to Google Images and select the camera icon in the search bar. Then, either paste the URL of the image you want to search for, or upload it from your computer; you can also drag an image from your desktop or another browser window if you prefer.

Click the ‘Search by image’ button to the right of the search bar, and Google will bring up your search results, including webpages that contain the same image, different sized versions, and similar images.

It’s slightly more complicated on mobile, as the mobile version of Google Images doesn’t contain the camera icon needed to search by image. Instead, you’ll need to load up the desktop version of Google Images, which doesn’t appear automatically when you head to the website on a mobile device.

If you’re using Safari on an iOS device, tap the icon at the bottom of your browser with the upwards facing arrow emerging from a box. Scroll along the icons at the bottom of the new window and select ‘Request Desktop Site’. You’ll then be taken to the desktop version of Google Images where you can follow the steps above to reverse image search.

If you use Chrome as your smartphone’s browser, head to Google Images, and select the three dots at the top right hand corner of your browser. As before, select ‘Request Desktop Site’ and you’ll be able to search by uploading an image or copy and pasting an image’s URL in the search bar.

How to reverse image search with Bing

You can reverse image search if your browser of choice is Bing, too. Head to Bing Images and click on the camera icon in the right hand side of the search bar at the top of your screen.

There you can paste an image or URL, upload an image from your computer or device, or take a photo using your camera. The process is exactly the same for mobile as it is for desktop.
