Hardy Announces 2023 ‘the mockingbird & THE CROW’ Tour

hardy mockingbird tour

HARDY’s hitting the road.

On the heels of announcing his second studio album the mockingbird & THE CROW , he announced that he’ll be touring in support of the new half country, half rock record in 2023.

The tracklist for this album will literally be split in half, with all the country songs written in lowercase letters, the title track is also split, and all following rock songs are in uppercase writing.

He previously noted that this project will explore the internal pull he often feels between making the music he was raised on in Mississippi, and exploring the rock side of his personality and the other kinds of music he really loves.

Hardy is also gearing up for his Wall to Wall bar tour this December, and if he’ll be anywhere near you on either trek, don’t miss it.

Tickets for the mockingbird & THE CROW tour go on sale this Friday, and Jameson Rodgers and Blame My Youth will be opening for him, keeping that half rock, half country concept going even out on tour:

“See ya out there @jamesonrodgers & @blamemyyouth

Tickets on sale Friday, 10/14.”

Having been named to nearly every “Artist to Watch” list, being crowned Billboard ’s “Top New Country Artist of 2021,” and earning CMT ’s 2022 “Breakout Artist of the Year” honor, the Louisiana native is one of Nashville’s hottest and most buzzed-about new artists. ABOUT DYLAN MARLOWE

Statesboro, Georgia native Dylan Marlowe is Nashville’s newest rising star on the country music scene, where he comes likely wearing camouflage and an audible smile, equipped with a sound that blends traditional country themes with a touch of rock. Dylan found his way to Nashville just before the start of the pandemic but made lemonade from lemons, filling his days with songwriting, networking, and finetuning his craft. After Dylan shared a performance of his countrified rewrite of the Olivia Rodrigo hit “Driver’s License” to social media, people really started paying attention. The clip immediately quadrupled his TikTok following and has racked up over a million views on YouTube to date. The enthusiasm surrounding the track prompted him to release it to streaming services, followed by his own infectious tunes like “All About It,” “I’ll Keep The Country,” and “Why’d We Break Up Again.” Now, with his recent opening stint on Cole Swindell’s tour under his belt along with his first No. 1 as a songwriter for Jon Pardi’s “Last Night Lonely” and an explosive new single, “Record High,” Dylan has set the scene for a monumental takeoff in 2023. Drawing from influences like Kenny Chesney, Eric Church and Cody Johnson, Dylan is carving out his own creative niche that he’s filling with music that fans will readily identify with the name Dylan Marlowe.

Big Loud noisemaker HARDY is on the verge of his biggest year yet, unveiling today the mockingbird & THE CROW Tour, a 16-date headline run presented by Live Nation launching February 16, 2023, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Joined by country chart-topper Jameson Rodgers and rock newcomers Blame My Youth for the trek, the thoughtfully curated lineup is an extension of HARDY's just-announced sophomore record of the same name. "I'm incredibly grateful to be able to bring this record to you next year. Touring it is something I've been thinking about since we started the recording process," HARDY says. Excited to have my buddies Blame My Youth and Jameson out with me; it's going to be crazy."

This December, HARDY will embark on his SOLD-OUT, nine stop headline Wall to Wall Tour with Jackson Dean serving as support and a one-night-only appearance from rockers Puddle of Mudd.

Big Loud Records' heavy hitter HARDY has never been just one thing. Uncaging his next chapter on January 20, 2023, HARDY will introduce the mockingbird & THE CROW, his dichotomous, 17-track sophomore album and the follow up to 2020 debut, A ROCK.

HARDY is the reigning ACM Songwriter of the Year and two-time AIMP Songwriter of the Year, additionally nominated for New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Musical Event of the Year at the 2022 CMA Awards.

One of CRS' 2021 New Faces of Country Music and a two-time CMA Triple Play award recipient, the pride of Philadelphia, Miss. has earned his reputation as "a breakout in the making," (HITS) and "a promising purveyor of keeping the spirit of classic heavy Southern rock alive" (American Songwriter).

HARDY has written 12 #1 singles since 2018, including his own double platinum #1 single "ONE BEER" feat. Lauren Alaina + Devin Dawson, and chart-topping Dierks Bentley + BRELAND collaboration, "Beers On Me."

He's previously toured with Thomas Rhett, Morgan Wallen, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Cole Swindell, and more, and will embark on his own SOLD-OUT headlining Wall to Wall Tour this winter, before launching the mockingbird & THE CROW Tour in 2023.

Jameson Rodgers made his name on the road. The hard-touring upstart has spent nearly a decade honing his rowdy live show, whether he's headlining his own electric sets or opening for the likes of Luke Combs, Florida Georgia Line, Darius Rucker, Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan and many more.

A MusicRow Discovery Artist of the Year winner and iHeartRadio Music Awards nominee, Rodgers immortalized his live show on his latest project Live from Oxford, MS, recorded at a sold-out show at The Oxford Theatre. Featuring early career standouts like "Midnight Daydream" plus his back-to-back, platinum-certified No. 1 hits "Some Girls" and follow-up smash "Cold Beer Calling My Name," (originally featuring label mate Combs), the collection captures the raucous atmosphere that has become Rodgers' calling card.

Named to breakthrough artist programs including CMA KixStart and Opry NextStage, Rodgers released his debut album Bet You're From A Small Town in 2021, and recently offered his first taste of new music with the reflective "Things That Matter."

Also an in-demand songwriter, the country traditionalist has co-penned multi-platinum hits for Florida Georgia Line (Top 10 single "Talk You Out of It") and Chris Lane (No. 1 smash "I Don't Know About You"), plus deep cuts for Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Jon Pardi, and more.

Sean Van Vleet has played the biggest of stages (Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Late Show, etc.), went on tour with massive acts (Death Cab for Cutie, Alkaline Trio, Deerhunter, etc.) and worked on songs that appeared in major TV shows, video games, and commercials.

So it's no surprise that as soon as Van Vleet formed Blame My Youth, the rocking quartet immediately saw their first single, "Right Where You Belong," land as the closing credits theme on the GRAMMY-nominated soundtrack of Bill & Ted Face the Music, and their follow-up, "Fantastic," picking up millions of streams and hitting the top 30 on the Active Rock radio charts.

After a trio of Danny Wimmer Presents festival appearances announcing their arrival as a band last fall, Blame My Youth spent the summer of 2022 touring across the UK and the US. With their debut Dance With My Demons EP, the band continues to work with chart-topping producer Joey Moi and craft the infectious rock songs that spark in the vocalist's ever-running mind.

This collection brings with it the rambunctious singalong tunes Blame My Youth is becoming known for, showcasing a rebellious mix of Van Vleet's complex emotional lyricism and unforgettable hooks, with each track further solidifying why many believe the band is set to be one of 2023's breakout artists.

Hardy Is a Country Singer Who Just Wants to Rock the F–k Out

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

Michael Hardy had been on his bus writing songs with his frequent collaborators Brett Tyler and Jordan Schmidt when he pressed play on a mix of his new album . They were floored by the heavy-rock influences coming out of the speakers and wanted to write something along those lines.

“I was like, ‘My record is done, so there’s really no point,” Hardy , who records and performs under his last name, tells Rolling Stone during a call from a tour stop in South Carolina. “I get up the next morning and Brett and Jordan are in the front lounge of my bus writing rock riffs. I was like ‘Dammit, y’all are gonna force me to write a rock song today.’”

“The Mockingbird & The Crow” would go on to serve as the title of the rising country star’s new double album (stylized as the mockingbird & THE CROW ), bridging together its divergent two sides. Its “Mockingbird” half is the kind of polished country songcraft that’s made Hardy a brand-name artist and songwriter in Nashville, while the “Crow” portion is full of caustic hard rock that could’ve pulverized sweaty crowds at Ozzfest circa 2001.

It’s ambitious, messy, and more than a little audacious in concept, but not so heady that it couldn’t soundtrack a lively Saturday night among friends. But then, that’s Hardy in a nutshell: capable of writing the big hits for radio, obstinate enough to do something completely unexpected, and savvy enough to find the throughline for it all.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

“My whole life I’ve seen a crow flying through the sky and there’s a mockingbird behind it picking at it, getting on its nerves,” Hardy says. “I saw that one day when I took my boat out on the river. I was like, I’m gonna write that down.”

The country side of The Mockingbird & The Crow reaffirms Hardy’s talent for producing radio ear candy. “Drink One for Me” answers “Give Heaven Some Hell” from 2020’s A Rock , “I in Country” is a ballad about lost love, and “Screen” is a plea to put down the phone and take a minute to enjoy the real world — written as much to himself as it is to others. “Red” is a soaring ode to small-town American life that features an appearance by Morgan Wallen; Hardy’s a close friend of the “You Proof” singer and has nothing negative to say about him.

In a strange but very fitting twist, the album’s radio single is actually the weirdest one of the bunch. “ Wait in the Truck ,” which features Lainey Wilson , happens to be a dark, gripping story of domestic abuse and vigilante justice.

Lainey Wilson Readies New Album 'Whirlwind'

Pour out the fireball: florida georgia line's nashville bar has closed, lainey wilson will tell her story of perseverance in 'bell bottom country' special.

“I was dipping my toes in the water with the last record,” he says. “I’m just becoming more comfortable with who I am.”

Hardy had started employing more of a screaming technique when he was performing “Boots” in concert and liked what he heard. “The more I did it the better I got at it,” he says. “I started messing around with that scream voice at home.” He ended up using it liberally on “Sold Out,” a self-referential track that kicks off the second half of The Mockingbird & The Crow , and again on “Jack,” a stormy, Incubus-influenced answer to the good-natured “Beer” from the album’s other side.

“That was an accident,” he says. “It works because it’s a yin and yang record, so I can get away with it.”

“Radio Song” pokes some knowing fun at Hardy’s radio-friendly tendencies. It opens with half-spoken verses describing a formula for songwriting, which is followed by an earworm of a pre-chorus and then mutates into a churning mass of detuned bass and guttural howls courtesy of Jeremy McKinnon from post-hardcore favorites A Day to Remember.

“It really is a song where we’re expecting everybody to have a sense of humor,” Hardy says. “It’s a big party song. Live, it’s going to be a big rowdy song. A lot of labels are like, ‘We need a radio song, we’re not gonna put this record out until there’s a radio song on it.’ So it’s like my take on, ‘Here’s your fuckin’ radio song. Just kidding, we ruined it!’”

'Word Salad': Andrew Huberman's Cannabis Claims Slammed by Experts

Brian wilson placed in conservatorship as daughters win consultation rights, meet the voice behind randy travis's new song, see taylor swift perform 'fortnight,' 'but daddy i love him' at the eras tour in paris.

As his sound continues to incorporate harder rock textures, Hardy is aware that he’s not reinventing the wheel. He is, like every other musician, a collection of influences that has coalesced into something similar to, but different than, what came before. Sometimes he just wants to rock the fuck out, and now that he’s got the confidence to really go for it, maybe some other kid in the future will take that baton and run even further with it.

“Every single form of rock & roll stems from the blues,” he says. “I think about how that branched into something else, and then something else. If some kid 20 years from now put out some shit that was changing the game and it’s similar to my stuff, I would be honored.”

Looks like this event has already taken place.

Fri, Dec 01 , 2023 • 7:30pm

331 Fulton Street, East Peoria, IL 61602

Announcing the next leg of his sold-out the Mockingbird & The Crow Tour today, Big Loud Records rule breaker Hardy is headed back out on the road.

This fall including a stop at Peoria Civic Center Arena on Friday, December 1st, bringing reigning CMA New Artist and Female Vocalist of the Year Lainey Wilson and buzzy Sony Music Nashville signing Dylan Marlowe along for an unforgettable ride.

Produced by Live Nation and presented by eBay Motors, the mockingbird & THE CROW Fall Tour ups the ante, marking HARDY’s first run headlining arenas.

“I believe I have two of the most authentic, talented acts out there opening for me on this run. I am still in disbelief that I’m announcing my first arena tour,” HARDY shares. “Fans, I will not let you down. This WILL be the greatest HARDY set you’ve ever seen. See y’all out there.”

HARDY refuses to 'QUIT' with new single, short film, 2024 tour announcement

Hardy follows up an award-winning, breakout year of countrified-rock success with a new single, short film release and 2024 tour announcement.

hardy mockingbird tour

Singer-songwriter HARDY once found a napkin with the word "quit" on it in his tip jar after a Nashville writers round almost a decade ago.

The countrified rock star told that story when he was named the Academy of Country Music's 2022 songwriter of the year.

"Tonight, that 'quit' napkin will be sitting right beside this f***er," a defiant HARDY said on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville that evening.

Now the napkin has inspired a new single, documentary and tour.

"QUIT!!," the song that arrived at midnight EST on Jan. 12, is his first release since 2023 album "the mockingbird AND THE CROW."

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

In a year when he told The Tennessean he would "leave it all on that stage and change the trajectory of [his] life," he did just that.

"QUIT!!" is the most unapologetically rock-inspired song in a catalog of almost 20 No. 1 country and rock songs HARDY has either performed himself or written for another artist in the past five years.

The distortion-laden, rap-rock-style single serves as a three-minute humble brag-as-creative declaration of HARDY's perceived "black sheep" with "a chip on [his] shoulder" emergence.

Five years have transpired since HARDY was a Middle Tennessee State University grad co-writing Morgan Wallen and Florida Georgia Line's 2018 hit "Up Down." He's now filled arenas and performed in front of over 3 million fans worldwide in 2023.

With "QUIT!!," HARDY's road from being an "unapologetically country as hell" performer to a "petty, [glorified redneck] with a stack of awards on a napkin" is a story told flatly that resonates with his growing fanbase and beyond.

Can HARDY mirror Guns N' Roses' success?

The 22-minute "becoming THE CROW" short film directed by Justin Clough that accompanies the release of "QUIT!!" celebrates the moment when HARDY's dynamic vision of writing country-influenced lyrics over rock-style riffs and playing with "bright and dark" emotions and moods took their fullest shape.

Where was that, exactly? Los Angeles' Sunset Strip.

On Jan. 23, 2023, HARDY played the country-inspired "mockingbird" half of "the mockingbird AND THE CROW" at Los Angeles' Troubadour, then immediately followed that set by playing the heavy metal-powered "THE CROW" at the Roxy, a two-minute drive away.

He's attempting to follow an incredible precedent.

In 1986, Guns n' Roses played the Roxy on Jan. 18 , The Troubadour on Feb. 28 and revisited The Roxy on March 26. By January 1987, the band, who signed to Geffen Records between their January and February shows, were recording their 1987 debut album "Appetite For Destruction."

By August 1988, the album, which features "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child O' Mine," and "Paradise City," had peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart — a chart on which the album remained for nearly five years. In the past 35 years, the album has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and is one of the top-10-selling albums of all time in the United States.

"The mockingbird AND THE CROW" featured Lainey Wilson collaboration "wait in the truck," "jack," Morgan Wallen duet "red," "SOLD OUT," "The Mockingbird & The Crow" and "TRUCK BED."

"If you want to know who I am, listen to that album...may it live forever," Hardy said.

HARDY in 2024

After opening for Morgan Wallen and co-headlining with Lainey Wilson, HARDY's set to return on the road this year with his Quit Tour.

Tickets for 15 dates between May and August go on sale Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. local time, with select fan pre-sales starting Jan. 16.

Supporting acts will include Travis Denning, Ella Langley, Kip Moore and Stephen Wilson Jr.

More information is available at hardyofficial.com/quittour .

About his year to come, HARDY said the following in a press statement: "Thank you for inspiring me to be great. I guess sometimes holding a grudge is a good thing."

HARDY Announces Fall 2023 Arena Tour With Lainey Wilson

By Maxim Mower

HARDY has unveiled his first ever arena tour, which is due to kick off in August, and will take the prolific singer-songwriter across states such as Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois and more.

HARDY will conclude the eagerly anticipated run of dates in his home-state of Mississippi on December 9.

It'll be supported by Dylan Marlowe and HARDY's ‘wait in the truck’ collaborator, Lainey Wilson .

The news comes shortly after HARDY teased the Fall arena tour in a light-hearted video posted across his socials.

The video, filmed on HARDY's bus, follows the ‘SOLD OUT’ hitmaker's amusing selection process as he attempts to find a couple of opening acts for the upcoming tour.

After calling up Marlowe immediately and securing his spot on the tour, HARDY then runs through a list of high-profile artists in his phone-book.

He asks Brantley Gilbert, but then hilariously thinks twice and decides to look for a ‘bigger’ name, much to Gilbert's bemusement.

HARDY does the same for Thomas Rhett and Dierks Bentley, the latter of which rings off with a playful “Screw you” once he's told that, on second thought, he's not actually been chosen to support HARDY.

It's a tongue-in-cheek video starring an array of HARDY's closest pals and collaborators, with HARDY eventually settling on Lainey Wilson as his second supporting artist.

Fans will be excited to see the duo heading out on the road together, with HARDY and Lainey Wilson having previously put on a number of electrifying live performances together.

Earlier in the year, HARDY and Lainey teamed up for a powerful rendition of their hit collaboration, ‘wait in the truck’, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon .

Although the country-rock maverick only recently released his new album, the mockingbird & THE CROW , some suspect he'll have released the third instalment of his hugely popular Hixtape series by the time his arena tour kicks off.

Speaking to Holler in January, HARDY delighted fans by revealing that Hixtape Vol. 3 was on the way.

Artist

The country-rock maverick also confirmed to Holler that the next instalment of the popular series would be “something completely different”.

HARDY is currently in the middle of his SOLD OUT headlining dates, and is due to join up with Morgan Wallen on the US leg of his blockbuster world tour , which starts later this month.

NASHVILLE, TENN.  – Untamable Big Loud force  HARDY  launched his charged-up headline  the mockingbird & THE CROW Fall Tour  this past weekend across the South. Bringing reigning ACM and CMA  Female Vocalist of the   Year   Lainey Wilson  and upstart country talent  Dylan Marlowe  along for the ride, HARDY greeted 11,325 fans over the tour’s first two nights as he always does: “My name is HARDY, and we’re gonna f*ck you up tonight, so get ready baby!”

Upping the ante on the fall run, his 21-song set was backed by a symphony of upgraded visuals, pyrotechnics, and an expert-level three-piece band, delivering No. 1 hits, deep cuts, and fan favorites with unparalleled energy across the 90-minute headline sprint.

Backstage, HARDY and Wilson were surprised with a plaque celebrating their game-changing platinum No. 1  “wait in the truck,”  one of the best songs of 2022 all-genre per  Los Angeles Times, Billboard, American Songwriter , and more, and “a dark and arresting story song” ( MusicRow ) that earned the pair multiple ACM awards and a CMT  Collaborative Video of the Year  award already this year.

See photos from HARDY’s first two shows of the mockingbird & THE CROW Fall Tour in Knoxville, Tenn. and Tuscaloosa, Ala.  here.

At the top of 2023, HARDY embarked on the first half of the anticipated headline run that “started to highlight the architecture of his superstar aspirations” ( The Tennessean ), quickly upgrading from theatres to the sold-out arenas he’ll light up all fall.

Of his live show performances this year alone,  The Minneapolis Star-Tribune  raved: “Showing he’s ready for arenas, HARDY was energetic, enthusiastic, authentic, and proudly redneck. He rocked with stout aplomb, crooned country with sing-song cadence and let boisterous fans sing lyrics by themselves, including on deep cuts.”  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette  noted how “he came out in a ‘HARDY SUCKS’ t-shirt and denim shorts and proceeded to rock the house like a headliner,” while  Music Connection  astutely observed that “this is not your grandma’s country music…HARDY got the crowd riled up and ready to party.”

Up next, “Nashville’s nü-metal king” ( Los Angeles Times ) flies through Kentucky and Ohio Sept. 14 – 16, then headlines the Saturday Night Concert at this year’s Talladega YellaWood 500 on Sept. 30.

At country radio,  “TRUCK BED”  accelerates, nearing Top 30 territory, while  “SOLD OUT”  continues to put the pedal to the metal just outside of rock radio’s Top 10.
