ZIP LINE FAQS

  • This means sneakers or boots with a full heel/back. No crocs, sandals, or 5-toed shoes allowed. People with improper footwear will not be allowed to go on tour and no refunds will be given.

Dress appropriately for the weather.

  • Comfortable clothes are recommended. We zip line rain or shine so wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet or sweaty. You will be wearing a harness that goes around your waist and thighs so we recommend wearing clothes that will cover those areas. Short shorts and tube tops are not recommended. Please wear shorts under dresses or skirts. Wear layers in cold weather.

Secure long hair.

  • You don’t want hair to get tangled in the equipment. Helmets are required, so a low ponytail, bun, or braid is the most comfortable. It is permitted to wear thin bandanas, beanies, or other head coverings under your helmet.

Glasses and sunglasses can be worn.

  • If you plan on taking them off during the tour, we recommend a strap. They may break if you put them in your pocket.

Do not wear loose articles of clothing, dangling jewelry, or large hoop earrings.

We have years of experience, and our guides are all CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and High Ropes Rescue trained. We meet or exceed all ACCT and PRCA guidelines. Our course is constantly checked and rechecked as well as inspected by an outside ACCT certified inspector. You will not find a safer or more experienced zip line canopy tour course in the United States (besides our other locations). Guaranteed!

Our course uses the Vertical Trek Innovations Continuous Belay System which allows for seamless transitioning between zip lines, bridges, high rope elements, platforms, and much more all while maintaining a life-rated connection. This continuous belay system holds the highest safety ratings in the industry and is trusted by over 500 zipline courses worldwide. Unlike many other belay systems, Vertical Trek Innovations does not allow accidental disconnects while on the course.

Learn more about our safety standards .

The 20 Best and Most Amazing Ziplines in the USA

  • Post author: Katherine Mines
  • Post published: October 14, 2018
  • Post category: North America / The Best
  • Post comments: 0 Comments

The United States is vast and full of mountain ranges. However, on most of these mountains, there is no snow for several months out of the year which raises the question of “what exactly do you do on a mountain with no snow?”

The answer is ziplining and it’s quite possibly the best mountain adventure you can have without putting on a pair of skis. But, ziplines come in all shapes and sizes and there are plenty of unique ziplines off the mountain, too. The US has multitudes of adrenaline-pumping adventures suited to all ages and abilities. But, with 50 states and so many ziplines to choose from, here are 20 across the country that you definitely don’t want to miss out on!

Camelback Mountain Adventures

Tannersville, pennsylvania.

Camelback Mountain Adventures, located in the lush Pocono Mountains, is home to North America’s longest twin zip lines. The Soaring Camel Twin Zip Flyers are 4,000 feet long and take you speeding over the ski slopes of the resort and the waterslides of Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark for 90 breathtaking seconds at a top speed of 60 miles per hour. The Twin Zip Flyers start at the summit of Camelback Mountain and you and your closest friend can race all the way to the base of the mountain. Camelback Mountain is located only two hours from New York City and is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Skyline Eco Adventures

Canopy Tours NW Zipline Adventures

Camano island, washington.

Canopy Tours NW is a family affair! Mr. Kristoferson bought the farm back in 1912 to raise dairy cows. But, today half of the 230-acre property is dedicated to producing certified organic lavender and hay while the other half is a forest that produces an organic, one-of-a-kind good time! 5 generations of Kristoferson’s have run the dairy farm turned zipline adventures course. This 2-hour course will take you over six zip lines, including the state’s second longest, of 660 feet for unbeatable mountain views. While a zipline course on a farm seems a bit far-fetched, the Kristoferson’s feel that it fits their mission of low-impact development and sustainability perfectly.

RATED #1 ACTIVITY IN HONOMU!

zip line tour guide

Everyone was so welcoming and answered all of our questions. This company is very organized and well run. Our guides gave clear instructions and made me feel very safe (I had never done this before and was nervous!). The first run was easy and helped you get the feel for zipping. The last run over the falls was spectacular. Highly recommend them!

Super friendly and welcoming staff! My daughter was a bit nervous about the big zip line, but the tour is designed to start with a smaller line and ends with the big one over the falls, which was perfect for her to adapt and really enjoy the last line. The location is very cool and the tour flowed like magic. A great day for the kids and me. Well done!

An awesome time with awesome people. The guides were excellent! They were hilarious and very knowledgable about the local history. Great guys with great recommendations of other spots to see and eat. The views are so worth it and you feel safe the whole time. I would say try it even if you don’t like heights, get out of your comfort zone and do it!

Perfect for your first time and beautiful no matter how many times you’ve done it. Nothing to do but sit and watch the beautiful scenery fly by! The hilarious crew does all the work! All of it. Great tour with free bananas! Flying over that waterfall was breathtaking! I'd definitely recommend this company to anybody looking for a fun daytime adventure.

Best guides ever! Their humor and good nature made for a great experience. These guys gave me all the tools I needed to feel safe and comfortable, and gave plenty of encouragement. The 7 line course was an excellent build up that gave me peace of mind and a slow build of courage towards the final zip over the waterfall. I couldn't recommend them more!

Can I bring my camera or video recorder?

A “rain check” will be issued to be used before the end of the current season. Rain checks do not have cash value and are only valid for the adventure for which it is issued. Groups of 20 or more participants cancelling 6 days or less will not receive a refund and has lost all payment.

However, your dog cannot accompany you on the ZipTour and dogs are not permitted on the lifts. During the winter sports season, dogs are not allowed on any snow surface.

If I have a season pass is it included?

Season Pass holders will receive 20% off the ZipTour for them and 3 guests.  Reservations can only be made over the phone or in person and the current season pass must be shown at the time of check-in.

Do you have group rates?

Yes. Pricing is dependent on the group size:

Can I participate in the ZipTour if I am pregnant or have a pre-existing medical condition?

The staff at Sundance Mountain Resort are not medically qualified and are not in a position to assess the capacity of participants with pre-existing medical conditions to ride the ziplines. It remains your responsibility to undertake such an assessment prior to taking the tour. You may wish to contact your doctor for further advice.

Individuals who are pregnant or may be pregnant should not ride the ZipTour. The harness must be adjusted snugly around the waist area, not hips, and the braking process can create a sudden and unexpected jolt to the rider if they do not slow down and stop at the designated unloading point. Persons who have recently had surgery or who suffer from chronic back/neck and/or spine problems are strongly advised to not take part in the ride. We are not medical experts and therefore suggest that you seek advice from your doctor on medical matters. If you decide to proceed, you do so with the full knowledge that the zipline tour may incur risks to an unborn child and may complicate preexisting medical conditions.

Take a Zipline or Canopy Tour

Ready to soar like a bird from tree to tree in a rain forest? Zipline or canopy tours give you a bird's-eye view of the forest, allow you to soar across canyons, and give you a glimpse of scenery below from a bird's eye view. Before you hook onto a line and start flying through the air, however, any reputable zipline tour operator will give you basic training, an orientation to the equipment that is used, and other tips on how to control your descent. All of that is important for safety of course, but it helps to heighten the anticipation too.

Difficulty:  Easy to Average depending on the course, although your nerves may think otherwise.

Time Required: 30 minutes to a few hours depending on the course and the number of lines zipped.

Here's How:

What is a zipline tour.

One zipline lover described the experience as "being as close as you can get to flying across the top of the jungle." Participants don a harness with a caribiner that is attached to a wheel on a cable strung between two trees or suitably tall posts. You push off from a platform suspended on one tree and zip along the cable to a second platform attached to another tree. You can be anywhere from just a few feet off the ground to hundreds of feet in the air depending on the location, literally flying between the trees at a height where only birds and climbing animals typically dwell.

Different Types of Zipline Tours

Zipline tours vary both in length and style. Many tours in Costa Rica , and other countries with jungles or rainforests , include a jeep tour to the zipline site during which a guide tells you about the wildlife and flora while en route. At some mountain resorts, the zipline experiences are near the base of ski slopes during the summer, and the first zipline is reachable via a chairlift. Some locations only have only two or three ziplines, while others have more than a dozen strung between the trees.

What Does the Basic Training Include?

Ideally, the experience will include some "how to" information plus a safety briefing. You'll learn how to put on the harness, latch onto the cable, and how to brake if you want to slow down mid-flight or as you approach the landing zone. After you learn the basics and watch a demonstration, you may get a chance to practice once or twice on a short zipline suspended just a few feet off the ground prior to heading off to the actual zip course itself.

Who Enjoys Zipline Tours?

Many zipline experiences can be enjoyed by entire families, but before you book be sure to ask about the number of ziplines and the heights at which they are strung. That way you can ensure that your entire party is comfortable with the experience before setting out. Also, be sure to inquire about any age, weight, and height restrictions too. It's no fun arriving onsite, only to learn someone in your group can't join in on the fun.

What Do I Need to Wear and Bring?

You should wear long pants and gym shoes or hiking boots on your biplane adventure. Shoes must not have open toes. If you have long hair put it in a pony tail. Use a strap to keep your glasses secure. Don't have any sharp objects, such as keys or pens in your pockets. Keep your camera in a case close to your body, not dangling on a strap and it is often best to leave your smartphone behind. The company should provide the harness, a helmet and gloves. But, confirm that they provide all three.

Do I Need to be in Great Physical Condition?

The answer depends upon the tour. A basic zipline experience requires little physical exertion, although it's not for anyone who has a serious fear of heights. If the tour you want to take includes hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, or other activities, you'll have to be in the proper shape to participate in those sports. Many zipline courses at least require a walk uphill to reach a starting position.

What's the Minimum Age?

Always verify the minimum age before you book the tour. Most tours will accept kids over 6 years of age, but some require participants be 18 years or older.

Are There Minimum and Maximum Weights?

Brad Morse of Canopy Tours, Inc. , says that anyone on the big side concerned about fitting into a harness properly should check in advance with any waist-size requirements and ask if there is a chest harness or full body harness. Usually there are maximum weight allowances for the cables as well, so ask ahead of time if that is a concern. Weight limits will vary depending on the zipline course, with some able to accommodate larger guests than others.

How Much Do These Tours Cost?

Prices vary dramatically depending upon whether it's just a zipline experience, or if the zipline tour is part of a longer itinerary that might include a jeep safari or walking tour to the site where the ziplines begin. Some operators offer snacks, drinks, or lunch, which could impact the price too. Basically there are many variables that impact cost, with prices ranging from as little as $25 to more than $200 depending on the experience.

Companies Offering Zipline Tours

Zipline tours are offered in many places around the globe and these days it is possible to find one just about anywhere. Top destinations include  Whistler and Alaska in North America, as well as Hawaii, Costa Rica and New Zealand. Canopy Tours, Inc. has a directory of Zip Line tours around the world.

How Do You Find Zipline Tours?

Start at Top Zipline and Canopy Tours . If you already know where you are vacationing, many travel packages offer a zipline tour option and in many places you can usually book them through the hotel concierge or front desk. You can also book before you go directly with a company via its Internet site. Ziplining has become so popular that chances are you'll find an option to try it just about anywhere you go.

All Zipline Tours Testimonials

  • "The most spectacular experience!! Our guides were second to none! Loved every minute of the tour. I was very nervous at first and starting off on a few smaller ziplines made me hungry for the big ones. If I had time I would do it again today!! By far the best time I have had in Hawaii. Thanks for the incredible memories!"  - Julie from IL
  • "My girlfriend and I flew from Oahu over to the Big Island JUST for the Akaka Falls zip line, By the time the tour was over I would have flown from New York to Big island to do it again just for the day!! The experience is second to NONE. The zip line is amazing fun but the Service is BEYOND incredible you would think each tour guide or receptionist owns a part of the business the way they take ownership and make your experience incredible. Knowledge of an encyclopedia and kindness of someone who LOVES what they do! David and Michael Thank you for an experience that will never be forgotten!!"  - Miguel from CA
  • "This was our very first zipline and it was a great choice for us beginners. You start off very easy and progress to the 'big one'. I am very afraid of heights and pretty much turned white when I got to the very last line. I did it and was very happy I was able to do this. You will love Damien, one of the guides. You will have two guides. One guide will go first on each line and one stays behind until everyone has gone. My thanks to Andy for being an expert foot catcher on the last line. I would recommend this. One thing to prepare for. Hilo (pronounced HE-lo) is one of the wettest cities in the world for rain. Skyline prepares for this by having rain gear available for you. They even give you a bottle of water. One of the lines you get to have an apple banana - which are excellent! Book this. Have fun. The Big Island is a beautiful island to explore. "  - Jerry from MI
  • "Great experience! I can honestly say that I have conquered my fear of heights. All of the staff are great, and they really enjoy their job. Its not only a job for them, they do know how to connect with people (especially with those that are afraid). Thank you all for a wonderful experience."  - Claudia from NV

I recommend this tour for thrill seekers and timid alike. The guides are fun, professional and give you a sense of security so you keep wanting more!"  - Ray from CA
  • "I was a bit hesitant at first but I have to say that the staff and guides who took us on the trail and the zip lines were simply amazing; both Tony and Melliza were professional yet full of humor and fun. So, any nervousness was gone very quickly. I also liked the way they pace the activities. Finally, the experience of going from one end to the other and taking in the views was breathtaking. All in all I' highly recommend this activity. "  - Girish from CA
  • "My husband has been encouraging me to face my fears throughout our relationship, and I have always had a fear of flying/heights/falling/etc. He was unbelievably floored when I suggested ziplining on our honeymoon. After much research (Yelp, TripAdvisor, Facebook, safety records, etc) I decided to go with Skyline Eco-Adventures. I am SO glad I did. The guides are hilarious and keep the whole situation lighthearted. In fact, they asked for the "scared" people to come in front for the safety before the first line. And, of course, guess then who gets to go first when it comes to ziplining! I made my husband go first since it gave me motivation to go afterwards. It was such an exhilarating experience, and I am so glad that we did it. The craziest part is that to "go" you walk down stairs that just end into the tops of trees in the valley. Such a trip! I would highly recommend this for your next trip to Maui. Such a great experience!"  - Cheryl from IL
  • "Beautiful and breathtaking views, an adventure that gets your heart pumping and two awesome guides..what more can you ask for?! Thank you so much Mason, Keawe and Skyline Eco adventures for making this a fun, memorable and amazing birthday adventure/experience & for bringing out the "  - Christine from CA

The Ultimate Zipline Guide: 7 Tips For the Time of Your Life :: Boundless Adventures

NY Adventure Park 2018

The Ultimate Zipline Guide: 7 Tips For the Time of Your Life

February 10, 2022

So you’re thinking about going ziplining for the very first time.

We can promise that it’s an experience unlike any you’ve experienced before, especially if you do it at an aerial adventure park.

In fact, we’ve been ziplining across NY, MA and countless other places for more than a decade.

That means we’re an authority on this kind of thing, which is why we’re here to make this the best ziplining trip you’ll ever take.

Let’s Break It Down

You’ve likely heard of your friends doing it, but for many, their fear holds them back from the experience.

But the adventure is one of self-growth rather than something to be terrified of. In fact, this thrill-seeking activity is a great way to reduce stress and build self-esteem!

For beginners, it’s helpful to have an idea of what to expect . If you want to try ziplining at an aerial adventure park, here are 7 things you should know before your first experience.

Prepare For Your First Ziplining Experience with These 7 Tips

Rather than psyching yourself out, let’s get a better understanding of what to expect with your first ziplining experience.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare and enjoy the adventure safely.

1. Dress Correctly

What do you wear for something like this? First and foremost, you want to be comfortable. Fitted workout apparel is best to wear when ziplining .

Lighter clothes are helpful if you’re planning your adventure for the hot summer months here in NY and MA.

If you’re taking part in a zipline or adventure park where the weather is cooler or snowing, dress appropriately for that as well. You want to be comfortable for this trip of a lifetime!

When it comes to covering up your feet, sneakers or any comfortable athletic shoes are highly recommended. Your shoes should definitely be closed-toed and you should always avoid Birkenstocks, sandals, flip-flops, and any open-toe shoes.

Most zipline parks will prohibit skirts and dresses as they can be a safety hazard. Do not wear any loose jewelry.

Now that you’ve got the outfit down to an exact science, let’s tackle how our guides (and others) will help you on the big day.

2. Your Guides Will Help You

If you have no ziplining experience, don’t worry. We don’t expect you to come to the adventure park knowing exactly what to do (although we have some tough courses for you seasoned vets!). Our guides will help you enjoy a safe and amazing experience at Boundless Adventures.

Whether you choose to zipline in our NY or MA park, we promise we’ll help you every step of the way.

Upon arriving at the park, a guide will explain how everything works (that includes the zip line and everything else). Be sure to listen carefully as your guide goes over instructions.

If you forget something or are unsure at any point, don’t hesitate to ask someone. You’ll see guides and staff members stationed throughout the park if you have any questions or need help.

3. Remember, Your Safety is the Highest Priority

We promise that you can have a ton of fun ziplining in NY and every other location that offers it, all while thinking safety first.

Since we view your safety as the most important part of your trip we have highly trained guides, regularly inspect and update our equipment and have our parks inspected regularly.

All of that hard work allows you to have fun without worrying about the details.

Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect at Boundless Adventures, through our unrivaled safety system:

  • Trained staff will fit you safely into a full-body harness. At Boundless Adventures, your harness locks into a safety line through an always “on belay” system.
  • Two carabineers are connected together and do not allow users to fully disconnect from the safety line. Participants are unable to come “off belay” until they are firmly on the ground. This system provides you with the security of knowing that you’re always attached to a safety line.
  • You also have the opportunity to master the equipment on training stations before you head up to the trees.

Your safety is the guides’ top priority, so you can trust that they will help you get the most out of the experience safely.

If you want to get into the more technical side of safety, it’s important to know that The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) sets the building and maintenance standards for zip line courses. The ACCT requires courses to be inspected annually by a qualified third party. When choosing where to zipline, always look for a park with ACCT approval.

The bottom line is this:

If you’re wearing the right clothing and pay attention to the guides’ directions, you’re going to have a blast (all while being safe in the process).

4. Don’t Rush the Experience

We’ve seen so many people rush the ziplining experience by rushing through their current course to get to the next one. What makes aerial adventure parks so much better than just a basic zipline course is the diversity of experiences that will challenge your mind and your body.

You shouldn’t treat your ziplining experience at any of our NY, MA parks like a race.

Take your time, zipline with your friends/family and make it the experience you always wanted.

After all, how often are you hanging in the trees zipping around from one to the next?

That’s what we thought.

5. Surrender the Selfie But Capture The Moment

Of course, you can’t do this awesome, exhilarating activity without having the photograph to celebrate it. However, keep in mind that your safety is far more important than that selfie you’ve been craving.

Unfortunately, it is not safe to use a camera while ziplining. You’ll need both hands to do this activity.

Ask a family member or friend to capture your ziplining or adventure park moment for you from the ground. There are also various tree platforms throughout courses if you’d like to take pictures there.

Don’t forget, the picture will show how you’re really feeling as you zip through the air. So have some fun, let out a yell and show the world what ziplining is all about.

6. You May Become an Adrenaline Junkie

Some of you may already love the thrills that come with ziplining and adventure parks.

For those of you who are ziplining in NY and MA for the first time, you may become an addict.

Why? Because once you’re flying through the air, it’s hard to imagine what it was like being on the ground all the time.

Many adventure parks (including Boundless Adventures) offer more activities to keep the experience alive.

We couldn’t ask you to challenge your boundaries if we only had one way to do it!

7. Enjoy Your Day at the Park

Any beginner zipliner may experience some fear going into it, but don’t let that anxiety keep you from going out and challenging yourself. A little fear is definitely normal, but you’ll see the benefits of the experience as soon as you feel the rush of the wind against your face!

Wherever you’re ziplining, take in the nature of the scene around you. While this experience will definitely be an adrenaline rush, it’s also a chance to gain some peace out in nature.

Take the opportunity to breathe in the fresh air and experience flight for the first time.

Where to Have Your First Ziplining Experience

Now that you understand the safety precautions and have an idea of what to expect, it’s time to book your first ziplining adventure.

If you’re in the NY or MA area, we’d love to take you on your first adventure.

As adventure park experts, we promise you’ll have a blast here!

So what are you waiting for? Invite your closest friends or family members for a bonding experience you’ll never forget.
