ParkIt Voyager Chair Review

You remember those classic lawn chairs that your parents have? Maybe you still use one, as you love the classic lawn chair style? It seems like all classics come back reinvented and the classic lawn chair just got it’s makeover thanks to ParkIt. The ParkIt Voyager has the feel of the lawn chairs you remember, but wait there’s more! This chair has a built in backpack feature, along with a cooler that can hold 20+ beers! Now let’s learn more about the ParkIt Voyager Chair Review.

Product Testing

I interviewed the creator of the ParkIt chair in early 2020 when they were first going live on Kickstarter. In learning more about this chair I was excited to get my hands on one, as I’ve tested numerous chairs and I have a sense when a chair is going to be a gamechanger. I had this feeling about the ParkIt Voyager, but I had to wait for them to be made. Fast forward a year later and I got my chair!

They have multiple color options and I went with the glacier blue. When it came in it was easy to assemble. I clipped the two backpack straps to the the back of the chair, inserted the cup holder and then clipped the cooler on the bottom of the chair. Now, it was time to go have some fun.

The chair itself looks clean and to me took the classic lawn chair and made the style even better. The frame is noted to hold over 350 pounds. The chair is comfortable and is lower to the ground than some other chairs. This is good to keep in mind if you, or a loved one have issues getting out of lower chairs.

The hands free carry on this chair is awesome. For getting to the photoshoots, I was able to slide this on my back just like a normal backpack and go. The chair weighs in at just over 11 pounds (with nothing in the cooler).

Speaking of the cooler, this is another reason why I’m a big fan of this chair! The cooler can hold over 20 beers and we found it kept things cold in 90+ degree temps for over 6 hours. If you add ice packs your results will get even better. The cooler has two additional zipper pockets to add some items like phone, keys, wallet, snacks, etc. The cooler is attached to the bottom of the chair and makes grabbing a cold one pretty easy.

PROS: clean design, detachable cooler, handsfree carry

CONS: cupholder does not fit all tumblers

Overall, this chair lived up to its hype! This chair looks the part, is easy to transport and can keep 20+ beers cold. I call this a win and I bet you will too.

Voyager chair features

The company's flagship Voyager chair features a classic design with modern upgrades. It's made from aircraft-grade aluminum, so it's lightweight and resists rust. It sits 16 inches off the ground and is ergonomically angled with a comfortable recline .

To make the outdoor experience even more enjoyable, the Voyager chair also features a built-in cupholder that can be switched to either side of the chair. Plus, you'll find a detachable cooler and storage compartment conveniently attached to the underside of the seat. The cooler can hold up to 20 cans and keeps them cold for up to eight hours. Stash keys, sunscreen and other small items in the waterproof pockets on top of the cooler.

BYU origami-inspired chair design featured on Mark Rober’s Top 10 list

Built of a single sheet of material, the chair is a compliant mechanism.

A futuristic BYU-designed, origami-inspired Flex Chair, cut out of a single piece of flat material and folded into shape, has made YouTuber Mark Rober’s Top 10 list. In a Nov. 2 video post, Rober spotlights the chair at #7 on his list of Crunch Lab builds in the past year, and credits BYU compliant mechanisms researchers for the innovative design.

“What makes it really cool is it’s made from one single sheet of continuous plywood,” Rober, a BYU mechanical engineering graduate, told 58 million subscribers. “It’s weird to think of wood as foldable and bendy, but this is another example of a compliant mechanism.”

Compliant mechanisms, based on the bends and folds of origami, create movement without hinges or joints, making them useful in various applications. The Flex Chair, created by BYU design professor David C. Morgan and his students, incorporates research from BYU’s Compliant Mechanisms Research Group, led by BYU mechanical engineering professor Larry Howell.

The surface of the Flex Chair is cut into a specific tessellated pattern, patented by BYU, that allows a rigid material like wood or acrylic to fold and bend, yet still maintain its strength.

“On the engineering side, this is a great demonstration of the fundamental theory that we’ve developed in compliant mechanisms, particularly lamina emergent torsion (LET) joints. The collaboration with the Department of Design made it possible to not just show it in some generic device, but in what turned out to be a really cool product,” said Howell, whose compliant mechanisms research has included everything from solar arrays for NASA to microscopic surgical devices to ballistic barriers .

For Morgan, the Flex Chair is not only visually interesting design, it is also fabricated in a unique way, so that consumers are invested in the product.

“Research shows that many people place a higher value on their things if they have some role in creating them. In the literature it’s sometimes called the IKEA effect. So folding the Flex furniture may create in the consumer a connection that we hope will encourage them to hang on to their stuff longer, reducing needless consumption and waste.”

Morgan and design students, now a part of the College of Fine Arts and Communications, showed their designs at Milan Design Week, and have launched Wasatch Design Collective, a co-op of industrial designers, to share their products.

Rober was first impressed by the Flex Chair when he saw it on campus, while working with BYU engineers on a unique microscopic Nerf gun compliant mechanism project. On his channel, Rober also shared free downloadable designs from BYU so people can 3D print miniature versions of the Flex Chair and learn more about the research.

Drove from Fremont to try out this place. Committed to trying good, quality places throughout the bay! 5 stars with hundreds of reviews is definitely eye catching! At the word "inspired by our travels", this wanderluster was drawn right in. Bring me the world if I can't get out there right now. Love it! From the moment of hello, the service has been top notch; welcoming, kind, and helpful. I ordered the Savannah and was pleased to know I could adjust the sweetness to my liking. Ordered brie toast and yogurt with granola. At every step of service, they offered to help if I wanted any adjustments to my food and drink. I loved the varied styles of seating. There were a couple of round and square tables against the windows with cushions, giving you the feel of hiding away and sitting in an imagined nook. There is bar tables for those who want to sit higher. Love the attention to detail. One of the bar tables looks like it was sliced right off a tree trunk. Nice! There are a few square 4 seaters scattered around. And, there is a patio, too. Hipster, calming spot to hang for a couple hours. Quick note about the internal temp of this cafe... I came in the morning on a hot day so the air conditioning was blasting. I'm not usually one to be cold but it's definitely nippy in here. I LOVE the cold so it's good for me, but I am glad I wore a little cardigan today. A perfect combination. If you get cold easily, bring a jacket. By the hot afternoon, the chill inside is going to feel GREAT!

Head Roaster Gabby had showed up to my work office for a pop-up the day before...so next day, I decided to give the Voyager closest to me a try! Staff was friendly. I ordered a matcha with soy (50 cent surcharge), total was $6. The matcha was good and doesn't clump. Definitely will be back in the future! Otherwise, I usually just get a cold brew! Might have difficulty parking during peak hours.

Hey Arthur! We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed your most recent visit! Iced oat matchas are my def go to beverage if I'm wanting something iced, sweet and creamy too!

Voyager is great! Be warned, this location is small and usually packed, so maybe not the best place to bring your laptop to crank out an afternoon of work, unless you like sharing table space with strangers. Voyager has a menu with lots of interesting flavors (Tokyo - cherry blossoms; Valencia - oranges) that still let the coffee itself shine. Drinks are made consistently well at this location, and the staff have always been absolutely on top of it in terms of speed, customer service, providing recommendations, or accomodating blips in service (like if they're out of an ingredient, or someone took your drink). Also, their pastry selection is wide and delicious and will also make me wide(r) if I don't exercise self control. Anyways, go to Voyager if you like tasty coffee with interesting but subtle twists.

Strawberry matcha latte was a tad sweet with not enough sauce to my liking, gonna ask for less sugar next time! Good study spot with more outlets along the back wall with very personable and talented baristas! Got some interesting bakes like these Dulce de Leche Alfajores! Good for gift giving.

Check in with Yelp for 15% off! Staff was super nice and helpful. Got the matcha strawberry latte this time around and the Lexington. Lexington was not as strong or fragrant as I remembered but the strawberry matcha latte was not overtly sweet but the matcha wasn't strong either. Drinks were filled also 80% of the way and mostly ice. Definitely not as crazy as i am about it as before but still a nice drink stop.

Hello! Back with an update. It's been months since I first tried the Lexington and it is STILL my favorite coffee of all time. I rave about it to everyone and everyone who tries it is hooked! I now frequent and shuffle through the three locations open right now as study spots and am patiently but excitedly waiting for the fourth location to open up. Anyhoo, I tried the cheese pastry at the San Pedro location which was decent. It was around $4.50 dollars but the inside was hollow which was really disappointing overall. I probably won't be getting this pastry again but I am looking forward to trying the toast.

After the event, I just had to check it out again. My sister raves about the Lexington last time she got it and when I tried it, I was blown away to say the least. At the end, we had to go back for those Lexingtons. The Lexington is like no other coffee I have ever tried. It's like a Jasmine tea of coffees. It's a bit light on the coffee side, but has this wonderful aroma and its fairy sweet, to the point where you don't taste the coffee flavor. And my family is obsessed with this drink. I got a regular Lexington and my sister substituted her whole milk for oat! We both were going on about how good it was, meaning that the drink was still My dad is also fairy selective on coffees and he really liked the one he got as well.

Innovative specialty coffee for around $6ish I highly recommend the Tokyo latte with coconut cream and cherry blossom water! It gives me herbal tea latte hut with that espresso/caffeine tip I needed

Second visit to this coffee shop. Service is slow word to the wise if you're in a hurry move along! This place is really slow w/ their service. I went on a Saturday late morning stood in line to order for 15 minutes took them another 15 minutes to make the coffee , I got the Tokyo w/ oat milk hot. It was ok nothing to rave about. I asked for them to make it extra hot it was not. It was served pretty lukewarm which I hate but I was not going to ask for a redo & wait even longer. But I do have to say the chocolate almond chia pudding was omg one of the best things I've ever had. I went with this choice because their was a fly buzzing around & sitting on the pastries in the case (yuck). I was eyeing the walnut loaf but saw the fly & passed! Glad I tried this pudding it was the most delightful thing I've had in a long time. I would definitely go back for more but maybe not on a Saturday.

Nice spot for coffee, get there before 8am on sundays otherwise its a rush. Got the cappacino which was ok, bit smaller than other places cups though. Service was nice and friendly and the seating was good

Came here to try out the coffee since I had a coupon for a free drink, tried the Tokyo drink and iced version as it was hot outside . Service was nice and fast and staff was helpful telling me what the different coffee was about. The coffee store was good and it didn't have music blasting loud, I was able to speak to my friend who I came with which was a nice change. They also have wifi so if you need to work from there that's doable. First time having cold coffee and actually enjoying it, will be back again next time for that Tokyo

I'd been obsessed with Voyager Craft Coffee for a while, but Friday was my first time at the Santa Clara location. They were way busier than DTSJ usually is, with a line out the door. The interior had plenty of seating (all taken) and there were several tables out front. All their Destination Lattes are amazing, and I chose the Iced Santiago this time. The combination of cocoa, cayenne, and cinnamon was fantastic. For food, I got the Garlic & Herb Croissant Bites and Sun-Dried Tomato Caprese Toast. The Garlic & Herb Croissant Bites exceeded all expectations! They came with a tomato dipping sauce, so it was like eating a pizza in pastry form. The texture of the dough was so fluffy, too. I also enjoyed the Sun-Dried Tomato Caprese Toast, which was definitely the more filling item. I loved the big cubes of mozzarella on top. Overall, amazing - Voyager never disappoints!

Really cute coffee shop with some delicious treats. I had the pumpkin latte and a really good breakfast burrito. We also had the almond butter toast, a blackberry crumble, cherry pop tart and a pumpkin cookie. Everything was great!

My friends introduced me to this coffee shop as they know I'm a coffee lover and this place did not disappoint. It has the cutest interior, with lots of seating options. There is usually a line to order coffee but well worth the wait. They have their seasonal menu which is what I order from but the Tokyo is a fan favorite. I've also tried some of their pastries and they've been delicious every time!

Super stoked for this. My wifey and I were always in the market for a medium riser fold up with back pack straps. We always saw the Tommy Bahamas but were too low and the single strap high risers which is more of a soccer mom chair. These bad boys, the Voyager by PARKIT, are a dream come true. Gonna get plenty of use for beach volleyball, kickball & camping. Summer is right around the corner and we are gonna go on quite a few voyages and put the Voyager to good use. Cheers!

My expectations were all over the place after I bought these chairs. I honestly didn't know if I had made one of the best outdoor/chair purchases of all time or just got swindled into buying a jazzed up version of my dead grandma's beach chair. With complete confidence I can tell you it's the first one! 🤣

The chair lives up to and exceeds the hype. I still remember how ridiculous I probably looked lowering myself to sit in the chair (think man discovering fire); I fully expected to hear a creak or feel the chair give a little bit, but nothing. Not a peep. I exhaled like I had just defused a bomb and rightfully so. Now I can relax because I have an sick looking chair (chairs.. So I play a lot of beach volleyball @ surfing .And just lately I’ve been not doing so well with beach chairs . Them breaking on me or just falling apart completely ., By chance I was searching on the Internet. Read the story so I went out and ordered one.. and the chair is awesome and I’m getting comments left and right from people. I must’ve given out to some locals friends and family your website 15 times.. Because after they sat down on the chair, most of them wanted to take it home, or offer me money on the spot for it. You guys rock!!!!!!

It took a few months to get my chair but it was worth the wait. It’s very comfortable to lounge in. The straps make it easy and comfortable to carry. The cooler is such a great feature. I’m planning on ordering another one soon!

Ok... I got this on kickstarter and I grabbed another for a buddy. I watched as it went through its phases and changes and am so happy with the chairs we got. I kept the black on as that is most baller of them all. Set up was a breeze but really sitting out in the backyard by the fire roasting marshmallows with a drink in hand has made this my favorite chair. I know... I know... All chairs can do this... But the best part is the built in cooler! I didn't get up for 6 hours! Really though these chairs are made right and I am excited to do a review on my YouTube channel. Their customer service is spot on and they wrote back to me on a couple questions right away. I am thinking I need a couple more chairs!

Received our chairs from the Kickstarter campaign. Some minor problems with shipping but the Parkit team handled it perfectly and was resolved. The chairs are built super strong and have an awesome look and sit even better. Purchase knowing your getting a top notice product and somthing that will stand the test.

Great Chair. Easily folds and locks. Comfortable shoulder straps to carry with or Without a full cooler. The cooler holds a heck of a lot of Ice and beverages. Very comfortable once you sit down. Arm rests are nice and the cup holder def comes in handy.

Have to say, I've done quite a few of the supporter-backed products on various sites and this one is by far the best. I had high hopes for this chair, it seemed like the perfect backyard/beach/camping/BBQ chair. It has totally exceeded my expectations. And the customer service was exceptional!

Yea, it's not cheap but it's more versatile than expensive patio chair and a hell of a lot better built than one of those $100 outdoor chairs. (I bought some zero gravity chairs last summer and they both already broke, cheaply made and poorly designed.)

Received both of mine today the wife and I sat on the porches and watched an afternoon thunderstorm. They are extremely comfortable and love the quality of them and so do the kids. It’s going to be hard to keep off them. Cup holder are great and I’m a big guy and have no problem with room around the love handles and get in or out of the chair. Good work guys!!

I have two chairs and they both look great. Solidly built and amazingly functional. The chairs are very comfortable too. I love the cooler and the ability to switch the placement of the cup holder.

This chair it a thing of beauty. It's incredibly comfortable and so practical. The craftmanship is excellent and feels like it's going to last a long time. It's kind of crazy that I'm so excited about a chair, but this is one of my favorite things I've received all year. I'm really excited to see what Parkit comes up with next.

We get this questions a lot so figured we'd add it here too - the box located under the seat is an insulated and welded cooler that will maintain ice for 8+ hours. It also has enough space for 15, 12oz cans of your favorite beverage. The cooler can also serve as utility storage as it has 2 exterior pockets that are perfect for keys, sunglasses, suncreens etc.
