James Reyne Opens Up About Health Setbacks and The 'Way Out West' Tour
Join Gleeso on Triple M Nights as he welcomes the legendary James Reyne, who is embarking on the highly anticipated 'Way Out West' Tour alongside Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi. With the tour set to kick off on June 23, we get an exclusive preview of what fans can expect, including exciting secret collaborations that are sure to leave audiences buzzing.
However, it hasn't been a smooth journey for James Reyne, as he shares the story behind the rescheduling of the first leg of the tour. A mishap in Surry Hills left him with a broken ankle and a cracked rib, prompting him to reflect humorously, "Did I fall over, or did I have a fall? I'm at that age now where it's like, 'Aw, James had a fall.'"
In addition to discussing the upcoming tour, the conversation delves into Ella Hooper's recent record, 'Small Town Temple,' and sheds light on how this exciting collaboration between James Reyne and Ella Hooper came to fruition. Listeners are treated to a special rendition of the iconic 1992 hit, 'Way Out West,' originally performed by James Reyne and James Blundell, highlighting the enduring appeal of this timeless track. Furthermore, James Reyne expresses his admiration for the late Broderick Smith of The Dingoes, the original songwriter of 'Way Out West,' and highlights the significant influence he has had on numerous artists, despite often going unrecognized.
Gleeso takes a moment to acknowledge James Reyne's immense contribution to Australian music, applauding his role in bringing local talent to the forefront, even amidst the domination of international artists in the market. We also explore the enduring popularity of Australian Crawl's iconic anthem, 'Reckless,' with Gleeso noting that every time he witnesses James Reyne perform it live, the crowd's fervent sing-along is twice as loud, a testament to the lasting impact of the song across the country.

James Reyne to Revisit Australian Crawl’s Biggest Hits on 2024 ‘Crawl File’ Tour
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Singer-songwriter James Reyne will head out on the road in 2024 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Australian Crawl’s first greatest hits collection, Crawl File. The album is officially being reissued this week by Universal Music, and contains the band’s most enduring hits, ‘Reckless’, ‘The Boys Light Up’, and ‘Errol’.
Reyne will bring a full band along for the ‘Crawl File’ tour, which will begin at Kingscliff Beach Hotel on Saturday, 6th January. The majority of the dates will take place along the east coast – including a set alongside Baby Animals in Coogee – with two shows also locked in for Adelaide. The final stop on the tour will be the Northcote Theatre on Saturday, 23rd March. See the full list of dates below.
UPDATE 28/11/23: More shows added to the Crawl File tour, which now stretches into July 2024. Details below.
Australian Crawl: ‘Reckless’
“It was all a long time ago,” Reyne said of his years fronting Australian Crawl. “And sometimes I feel like it was another person who lived that life. But I’m still making music and I’m still on the road. Australian Crawl was a great apprenticeship.”
Apart from the tour, Reyne has also been locked in to perform at the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash in August . The singer spent a fair whack of 2023 on tour with Ella Hooper in support of their new version of classic track ‘Way Out West’ – although some of the dates were initially rescheduled due to Reyne breaking his ankle .
Reyne’s last full-length release was 2020’s Toon Town Lullaby – read the track-by-track here .

James Reyne 'Crawl File Tour' 2024. Toronto Hotel - Live On The Lake - Saturday 9th November 2024
JAMES REYNE - CRAWL FILE TOUR “I said, hey, do you remember?” James Reyne is dipping back into the Crawl File, hitting the road to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Australian Crawl’s first greatest hits collection. To coincide with the tour, Crawl File is being reissued on vinyl by Universal Music. Crawl File plays like a classic gig, opening with the band’s debut single, ‘Beautiful People’, and closing with their most popular live song, ‘The Boys Light Up’. In between are some of the most-loved Australian songs of all time, including ‘Reckless’, ‘Errol’, ‘Oh No Not You Again’, ‘Lakeside’, ‘Downhearted’ and ‘Things Don’t Seem’. As one fan noted, “I can put on this album and almost feel the sea spray and the late summer nights.” Just a snippet of any song is enough to take you back: “The garden’s full of furniture, the house is full of plants … Had an experience bizarre … I would give everything just to be like him … Let me tell you ’bout two young lovers that lived on the coast … All them summer rubbernecks kept coming to panel-van the street … Broken dreams that never really started … Things justa don’t seema to be going right … She don’t like that kind of behaviour … Hopes are up for trousers down … The garden it is dorsetted, that lady she’s so corseted.” The wordplay is magical; the songs are unforgettable. What a sing-song dance, what a performance. Rah-rah, hey! Fun fact: Crawl File’s distinctive artwork was co-designed by Buster Stiggs, who had been the drummer in The Swingers and Models. Crawl File was the biggest Australian best-of of 1984, hitting #2 on the charts (kept out of top spot by the year’s biggest compilation, Choose 1985, which spent nine weeks at #1). The 'the best of' capped a bittersweet year for James Reyne and Australian Crawl. The band sponsored 1984’s Bells Beach Surf Classic, James won a Logie for Most Popular New Talent following his starring role in the hit mini- series Return To Eden, Australian Crawl won Most Popular Group at the Countdown Rock Awards, but then the band was rocked by the death of Guy McDonough and a planned US tour was cancelled. James Reyne is an artist who doesn’t live in the past. But occasionally he pays it a visit. “It was all a long time ago,” James reflects, “and sometimes I feel like it was another person who lived that life. “But I’m still making music and I’m still on the road. Australian Crawl was a great apprenticeship.”

The Sharp Announce First National Tour Since Reuniting
Celebrating the 31st anniversary of ‘This Is The Sharp’.
The Sharp (Supplied)
The Sharp have announced their national tour since they reunited in March – and as such, their first tour since 2010 – with eight dates on the itinerary for the second half of 2024.
The stint will kick off in Belgrave on Saturday July 26, with an intimate show booked in at the Sooki Lounge. The following night (July 27) will see them hit the Bundy Hall in Bundalaguah, before they roll up to Sydney for a two-night stag at the Dee Why RSL on Saturday August 30 and Sunday 31. Heading into September, they’ll play the Gold Coast’s South Port RSL on Saturday September 6, then the Alexandra Hills Hotel on Sunday September 7, and finally the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on Saturday September 20.
Just for good measure, The Sharp will also play a second Melbourne show on Sunday November 2, taking over the Corner Hotel. James Reyne will join the band for that show, as well as the aforementioned dates in Sydney, the Gold Coast and Alexandra Hills.
The tour comes just in time for the 31st anniversary of The Sharp’s classic debut album, This Is The Sharp , which first landed in September of 1993 and made serious waves with hits like Train Of Thought , Scratch My Back and Yeah I Want You .
The Sharp announced their reunion back in March, with Wasabi singer Lee Harding onboard for the festivities. Harding has since backed out, though, with the band now consisting of Charlie Rooke on guitar, Allan Catlin on double bass and Piet Collins on drums (all members sharing vocal duties).
