About + live +.

+LIVE+ have sold over 22 million albums worldwide and earned two number one albums: Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. Their catalog is filled with such gems as “Lightning Crashes,” “I Alone,” “All Over You” and “Lakini’s Juice,” which live on today as classics on rock radio. Throwing Copper—which the band celebrated in 2019 with a new deluxe 25th anniversary edition via Radioactive/Geffen/Ume along with a global tour across major festivals, amphitheaters and arenas--produced the band’s biggest single, “Lightning Crashes,” which was #1 at Modern Rock radio for ten consecutive weeks. Throwing Copper reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually surpassed sales of 10 million albums sold, with Rolling Stone honoring the album with placement on their list, “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year.” Secret Samadhi (1997) immediately shot to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went double platinum. The release of the platinum-selling The Distance to Here (1999) turned +LIVE+ into an international powerhouse and moved the band from arenas into stadiums. +LIVE+ has been and remains today a global concert juggernaut. The band released an acclaimed five-song EP in 2018, LOCAL 717, their first new music in over a decade.

Squid cancel tour dates due to member being “involved in accident” and suffering “multiple facial fractures”

"We will work to come back and play these shows as soon as we can"

Squid band members

Squid have cancelled their upcoming tour dates following a member of the band being involved in an accident, the band have shared in a social media statement.

  • READ MORE:  Squid on new album ‘O Monolith’: “We’re all in the groove now: we’ve never been more confident”

Earlier today (September 3) the Brighton post-punks took to Instagram to make the announcement about upcoming shows in China and Malaysia. The band had been set to play a series of shows in the two Asian nations beginning with a set at Sonic Jam Festival in Xi’an, China, on September 8.

Describing themselves as “extremely sad” to make the announcement, Squid explained that “one of us was involved in an accident and has multiple facial fractures.” They said they were told it would be unsafe for the unnamed band member to fly, and that while they had looked into getting a replacement to fill in, “the nature of our music means that this is very difficult to arrange at a few days’ notice, and we would be unable to procure the necessary work permits in time.”

They continued, “We were massively looking forward to playing in these new cities and meeting our fans who have been so supportive, and this outcome is very disappointing to us all. We will work to come back and play these shows as soon as we can.”

Over the summer, Squid played a series of shows across the UK, Europe and South America, including a set at Glastonbury 2024 . They also played North America earlier this year to tour their second album, ‘ O Monolith ’, which was released in June 2023.

NME gave the album a four-star review , calling it “a monument to daring artistic growth” and saying, “If Squid can make daring, experimental music sound as fun as this, then they will take some stopping.”

In January, they released another track, ‘Fugue (Bin Song)’ , an outtake from the album which had been a live staple of the band for some time.

Only Pope John Paul II can boast bringing in bigger crowds to Heaton Park.

But next summer, Oasis will give the former head of the Catholic Church a run for his money. The Britpop band are set to spend five nights of their long-awaited reunion tour at Manchester's biggest park where hundreds of thousands of fans will gather over a week.

It's not the first time the band has brought in big crowds to Europe's largest municipal park. In fact, their three sold-out shows at Heaton Park in 2009 would be among their last before breaking up following a fight between Liam and Noel Gallagher in France .

The brothers from Burnage, and their bandmates, drew in a total audience of 210,000 over three nights in June 2009. But the first of these homecoming gigs were fraught with technical difficulties resulting in 'Bank of Burnage' cheques being sent to fans as refunds.

Since then, Heaton Park has gained a reputation in hosting major events every summer. In June 2012, fellow Manchester musicians The Stone Roses staged three performances at the park as part of their reunion tour which saw all 220,000 tickets sell out in 68 minutes .

The park, located in Prestwich , has also hosted Parklife festival every year since 2014 with more than 80,000 revellers now packing it out over its two days. The Courtneers played their biggest ever headline show to date at Heaton Park in 2015, while New Order played to their largest hometown audience at the park after the pandemic which caused Liam Gallagher's sold-out concert to be cancelled.

Part of the huge congregation that welcomed the Pope to Heaton Park

But when it comes to numbers, no one can beat the Pope's appearance at the park in 1982. More than 250,000 people were reported to have attended Heaton Park to hear the Pontiff celebrate mass and ordain 12 new priests from a specially constructed open-air altar.

Much has changed since then with rules and regulations requiring meticulous preparations ahead of the park being packed out. Each event at the park is a massive operation with organisers work closely with the council and police to make sure it goes ahead safely.

The park, which is owned by Manchester council, now has a capacity of around 80,000 people for events. However, the Manchester Evening News understands the capacity for the Oasis gigs will be lower with fewer than 400,000 fans expected over the five nights.

All of the logistics involved in hosting hundreds of thousands of people in a suburban park will be agreed ahead of the event. But, based on other events in recent years, local residents can expect to see road closures and special parking arrangements put in place.

A huge police operation is expected to be in place too with a Silver Commander from GMP now deployed to Parklife every year. And with event-goers set to attend from far and wide, a full transport plan will have to be drawn up for trams, buses, trains and taxis.

Local councillors are also be hoping their communities will take a cut from the millions of pounds that are set to be made through the shows. It comes as the Parklife Community Fund reaches its eighth year, having handed local groups more than £350,000 since 2016.

Manchester council has promised to work with local residents' group ahead of the events. Labour councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Skills, Employment and Leisure, said: "We have vast experience and considerable expertise in Manchester in supporting the delivery of large-scale, high-profile events of all kinds, including music concerts, and in maximising the benefit of these for the city.

"The city council has a tried and tested process in place to support the planning and delivery of major concert events in Heaton Park and can draw on experience and lessons learnt from hosting the Oasis concerts in 2009, the Stone Roses concerts in 2012 and over a decade of staging the Parklife festival.

"As with every major event, the council will work closely with the concert promoters to ensure that adequate measures are put in place to manage people to and from the park, and will work closely alongside key agency partners and neighbouring authorities to provide a safe environment for those attending, including the development of a robust traffic and transport plan that will be tailored to the event.

"There will also be discussions with local residents' groups and a plan implemented to help reduce the impact on the local community of the park hosting the five concert nights."

I have been waiting for over 20 yrs for Tool to come back to Dallas and Jam out. Well that's exactly what TOOL did on 22January2020 in Dallas, TX at American Airlines Arena. From start to end nothing but excellence from all 4 Gentleman. lanyards voice was Top form and the musician's jammed do hard I know they have to have blisters on their fingers. They are a very fine tuned head banging, fist in the air rocking Rock and Roll band of the Decade. If you happen to get a chance to see TOOL within the next 4 shows, only in the states, get there. Because you dont want to miss this show. SHOW OF THE YEAR!!!!! Guaranteed!!!

Absolutely incredible show! The sound was perfect, the visuals were spectacular and the band sounded super-tight (no surprise there). That is no easy feat considering the complexity of their music (especially their new material). They're one of the very few bands that actually sound the same or better live than the studio album. Maynard is finally more visible on this tour as they've added two platforms on each side of the drum riser where he crouched, danced, slithered and delivered his exceptional vocals. He even engaged the crowd a little bit, which was shocking. You could tell he and all his band mates are in a good head space and were really enjoying themselves. Truly memorable show from one of the greatest rock bands ever!

The band was unreal as always.

I attended a Montreal show a couple of years back and this was just as good along with the addition of some new album tracks.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the crowd here. The fans were far more connected to the music in Montreal. They understood the ebb and flow.

But, for some reason, we've got fools in Toronto who show up, get trashed and are somehow louder than the band. People here don't seem to get the idea that they're there with 12 - 13 thousand other people so it's really not about them. But, hey, that's the maturity level of kids old enough to drink legally, but not self-aware...

If ever they're back again, I'll see them, but never at Scotia again.

SKOWHEGAN — Beer lovers from around the country are expected to head to Skowhegan on Saturday for the town’s annual Labor Day weekend brew festival.

The Skowhegan Craft Brew Festival is set to feature more than 100 Maine-made craft beers, wines, ciders and spirits from 24 beverage producers, along with local food vendors and four musical acts, according to an announcement from the event’s organizer, the nonprofit organization Main Street Skowhegan.

The festival, which began in 2016, is expected to draw people from Maine, 13 other states and Canada, according to the announcement. So far, people from as far away from Texas, Arizona and Nevada have bought tickets, the organization said.

“We’re thrilled to draw people from near and far to Skowhegan for our annual brew festival,” Kristina Cannon, president and CEO of Main Street Skowhegan, said in the statement. “Not only do events showcase our growing community and all that we have to offer visitors, but they also bring people to town who spend money at our locally owned businesses. Brew fest, in particular, brings people back again and again to our community.”

Tickets are required to attend the brew festival, and can be purchased online at skowhegancraftbrewfest.com . A $50 general admission ticket includes unlimited beverage samples from 3 to 7 p.m. and a souvenir tasting glass. “Designated driver” tickets for those who do not wish to drink alcohol are $10.

Ticket prices increase by $5 the day of the festival, so organizers suggest buying tickets by 6 p.m. Friday. Advertisement

A “VIP hour” at 2 p.m., featuring free food samples, other goodies and live entertainment, is sold out.

The brew festival is to be held along the Kennebec River in downtown Skowhegan, where the event moved last year from its previous location on Water Street .

Skowhegan Craft Brew Festival draws hundreds of beer drinkers to new location

Organizers said last year that the move was intended to help promote ongoing economic revitalization efforts along the town’s waterfront, including the planned River Park. Other events, such as the annual River Fest in August , are intended to achieve that goal, too.

With a contractor on board and the permitting process in its final stages, construction of the in-river whitewater park portion of the overall development is expected to begin in spring 2025 , Cannon said recently.

Construction of Skowhegan whitewater River Park delayed until 2025

Main Street Skowhegan uses proceeds from the brew festival to support its ongoing economic development efforts, according to organizers. The event is sponsored by more than a dozen local businesses and organizations.

The festival is expected to take place no matter the weather. As of Thursday, the National Weather Service was predicting mostly cloudy skies in Skowhegan on Saturday, with high temperatures in the mid-70s, and a 50% chance of rain showers after 2 p.m.
