Honoring jim irsay + tour updates.

written by REO Speedwagon January 19, 2024

Hi friends, I am very fortunate that my years with REO Speedwagon have allowed me to be a guest vocalist with some amazing “house bands” at various charity events during REO downtime. Most recently I joined my friends in The Jim Irsay Collection Band for another night of good fun and great music at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in LA.

The mood was a combination of somber and joyful. Somber due to the illness of our leader and benefactor, a man as generous of spirit as with his riches, humble, respectful, and loyal, and a lover of music and everyone involved in creating it, a man I am proud to call a friend, the inimitable Jim Irsay. I wish Jimmy the best as he faces this terribly tough challenge, and I have faith that he will come through it stronger than ever.

Jim wanted the concert to go on, with or without him, and we all dedicated every note we played and sang to his recovery. I was honored to be among the guest singers that night, all giants in their own right: Ann Wilson of Heart, Peter Wolfe of the J. Geils Band, and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. I think you can feel my joy in these photos from my performance, as this amazing band lifted me up and put their masterful imprint on my songs.

As I write this, the REO boys and I are on a flight from LA to Orlando, for a co-headline show with Styx on Thursday night. It will be great to see Tommy, JY and the boys, and the great audience our bands attract when we join forces. We will be playing a new and exciting setlist this year, and the band is raring to go.

The 2024 tour officially begins on March 20 in Reading, PA with very special guest, Rick Springfield, and lands in Estero, FL with our old buddies Cheap Trick on April 6. I will be writing about our adventures as our tour winds its way through Charleston, WV, Knoxville, TN, Columbia, SC, Montgomery, AL, St Augustine, FL and many points in between. You can check reospeedwagon.com for a full list of Spring tour dates. We will be announcing a very special summer tour later this month, and are stoked to be sharing the stage with an awesome band with an amazing lead singer, that we have never played with before. So stay tuned! … kc

Recent tour reviews

Band played favorites from past and even some songs that were on side B, that was really cool if you know their music. Still high energy and David is still the man on his Gibson's and fenders. Will see again, but never at Harrahs Cherokee NC. Crowd was too drunk, out of control, and security lost control of the crowd.

Awesome Show, one of those bands that sound better live. Almost 2 hours, played our favorites, must see!

Share stage with Firehouse, another great band rock the house for 45 minutes.

Third in the lineup was John Waite, forgot how good of a vocalist he is, would go to another show even if he is the only headliner.

Train and REO Speedwagon are going on tour together for the first time: How to get tickets

reo speedwagon 1981 tour dates

Train and REO Speedwagon have amassed 32 Billboard hits and more than 50 million albums sold between them.

And now the durable pop-rockers are hitting the road for a co-headlining tour.

The Summer Road Trip 2024 commences July 8 in Somerset, Wisconsin and crisscrosses the country through Sept. 11 in Phoenix. They’ll be joined by Yacht Rock Revue on all 45 dates of the tour.

Tickets can be purchased starting Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. local time through Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. local time via a Citi cardmember presale . Tickets will go on sale to the general public via the bands’ websites – savemesanfrancisco.com and reospeedwagon.com – as well as livenation.com Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. local time.

To celebrate their upcoming outing, Train and REO Speedwagon will hit Los Angeles’ Whisky A Go Go for a show Feb. 1. Tickets are on sale Monday at noon PT via the bands' websites.

The hitmakers will also share the stage for their first-ever joint performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Wednesday, even though band members have crossed paths over the years.

“I met Patrick Monahan at an acoustic charity event and immediately felt a good vibe," REO Speedwagon singer Kevin Cronin told USA TODAY exclusively. "Pat is an amazing singer, Train has great hit songs, and I feel that the combination of REO and Train is both interesting and powerful.”

Since their 1998 self-titled debut, Train has scored eight Top 40 hits, including “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” and “Hey, Soul Sister.” The band released its 11 th studio album, “AM Gold,” in 2022.

REO Speedwagon , meanwhile, is responsible for some of the most enduring radio fodder of the ‘70s and ‘80s with anthems “Keep On Loving You,” “Take it on the Run” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling” among their musical arsenal.
