Despite Express stores filing for bankruptcy, Cielo Vista Mall store will remain open
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Express shoppers in El Paso can rest assured: the location at Cielo Vista Mall will remain open, despite the announcement that nearly 100 stores will be closing. That's according to court documents obtained by ABC-7.
The clothing franchise filed for bankruptcy at a Delaware court. It will close 95 of its stores, with closing sales at those locations expected to start on April 23.
Express's announcement comes two weeks after the Cielo Vista Mall location closed temporarily due to failure to pay rent.

Barcelona's fast fashion retailer, Mango, eyes expansion at El Paso's Cielo Vista Mall

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Barcelona-based fast fashion retailer, Mango, is eyeing space in Cielo Vista Mall after the brand filed a building permit with the city of El Paso last Wednesday.
Mango, a burgeoning fast fashion retailer out of Barcelona, appears poised to add Cielo Vista Mall to its list of U.S. outposts after the company filed an expedited commercial tenant improvement application with the city of El Paso on Wednesday.
Mango opened its first Texas location in Houston in August 2023.
At the time, Forbes reported that the company intended to open another six in the Lone Star State -- two more for Houston, as well as San Antonio, Dallas, Frisco and McAllen -- by the end of 2023, however, some of those locations are yet to have opened including Frisco.
Mango was founded in 1984 in Barcelona by two brothers.

Like its rivals in the fast fashion industry, Mango designs, manufactures and distributes clothing, shoes and accessories for men and women, as well as home goods such as blankets and duvet covers.
Across its system of franchise and company-owned locations, Mango reportedly operates upwards of 2,700 stores in 115 markets, globally.
Mango is the latest in a string of international retailers eyeing the Borderland, including Japanese lifestyle company Daiso and Ireland-based Primark -- both of which filed permits with the city in April.

Wetzel's Pretzel locations are celebrating its 30th anniversary and National Pretzel Day on Friday, April 26. The franchise will offer free original pretzels at its locations.
In El Paso, Wetzel's Pretzel is at Cielo Vista Mall, 8401 Gateway Blvd. West. The pretzel giveaway will be from 3 p.m. to close Friday, April 26. No purchase is necessary.
“There’s no better way to celebrate 30 years than our favorite day, National Wetzel Day, allowing us to give back to our beloved fans who are the reason for our storied journey,” said Hillary Frei, marketing director in a press release. “From our small roots as a tiny SoCal pretzel shop way back in 1994 to where Wetzel’s has gone, it’s remarkable, and we want all of our fans to join us in celebrating our birthday all year long."
Wetzel’s Pretzels has grown to 400 locations. It has also received accolades, most recently being named a Yelp 2024 Brand to Watch.
