TOUR Championship

ATLANTA — The PGA Tour season concludes at East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship this week, as the top 30 players look to take home the FedEx Cup.

Here is everything you need for the Tour Championship: a preview, full TV schedule, streaming schedule, and complete list of first-round tee times.

Tour Championship Information

Where: East Lake Golf Club (Par 70, 7,346 yards)

When: Aug. 24-27th

Purse: $75 million ($18 million to the winner)

Defending Champ: Rory McIlroy

Tour Championship Preview

The final event of the 2023 season is here as the PGA Tour looks to crown a FedEx Cup champion at the Tour Championship. Players will compete for a $75 million purse, where the winner will take home a whopping $18 million.

This week is different from the BMW Championship and FedEx St. Jude Championship. Players start with strokes depending on where they finished on the points standings. Scottie Scheffler will start at 10-under, Viktor Hovland at 8-under, Rory McIlroy at 7-under, Jon Rahm at 6-under and so on.

East Lake Golf Club is a doozy. Multiple par-4s stretch beyond 450 yards, and there are only two par-5s on the course. Keeping it in the fairways will be imperative. Water comes into play on some pivotal holes, so avoiding the penalty areas will be a crucial component to hoisting the FedEx Cup trophy.

McIlroy sits in a strong spot entering the week. Last year, he came from behind and waltzed past Scheffler to win his third FedEx Cup. With nine straight top-9s and his game in form, can the Northern Irishman close it out in Atlanta again?

Scheffler fell short last year, but did he learn his lesson?

Hovland is coming off a historic 61 at Olympia Fields to win the BMW Championship, and he looks dialed in this week. Can he go back-to-back?

Xander Schauffele plays East Lake better than anyone in the field. Only Tiger Woods plays this course better historically. Schauffele won in 2017 and has finished in the top seven in the past six seasons.

So many intriguing storylines are here in Atlanta as the top players in the world will battle it out at East Lake. Of course, they will need to beat the heat too.

Thirty players, 72 holes, $18 million to the winner. These are stakes at this week’s Tour Championship, where the FedEx Cup champion will be crowned at East Lake Country Club in Atlanta as the PGA Tour culminates its 2022-23 season.

Rory McIlroy is looking to become the first player to win back-to-back FedEx Cup titles. The Northern Irishman started the final round a year ago six shots off the pace of leader Scottie Scheffler, only to shoot a closing 66 and rally to claim his third career FedEx Cup, adding to wins in 2016 and 2019.

But if McIlroy is to repeat, he has his work cut out for him. Unique to this week’s event is the tournament’s staggered start format, where the No. 1 ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the week—Scott Scheffler for the second straight year—starts the tournament at 10 under par, with the rest of the field playing catch-up. McIlroy, No. 3 in the standings, begins the first round three back of Scheffler at seven under.

While the winner takes home $18 million, all 30 players competing will earn at least $500,000. Here’s a break down of the FedEx Cup bonus payouts: Win: $18,000,000

2024 PGA Championship TV schedule, coverage, live stream, channel, where to watch online, golf tee times

How to watch every memorable moment of the 2024 pga championship on tv or streaming live online.

pga-championship-valhalla-flag-white-2024-g.png

The second major of the 2024 golf season wraps Sunday in Louisville with plenty of big-time players looking to capture the Wanamaker Trophy and $3.3 million winner's prize from the PGA Championship's $18.5 million purse while setting a tone for the remainder of their respective campaigns. This as the beautify of May surrounds Valhalla Golf Club with the PGA Championship concluding its return to town for the first time in a decade. Do not miss a moment of the action by following  live leaderboard coverage of the PGA Championship  with analysis and highlights throughout the day.

An unfortunate wrench was thrown into the tournament Friday morning as, in unrelated incidents, a pedestrian was killed outside the Valhalla grounds in a traffic incident and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested for violating traffic rules . Though Scheffler looked like he was going to hang tough, he played himself out of contention in the third round and opened the door to the rest of the field.

Xander Schauffele entered Sunday atop the leaderboard for the third straight day, except this time, he was for the lead with Collin Morikawa. Shane Lowry, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Rose and Viktor Hovland all surged up the leaderboard Saturday, while Sahith Theegala remained hot bouncing back from a rough start to put pressure on the leaders down the stretch. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are among the other notable names lurking, though given the way the leaders started Sunday, it would take a miracle for any of them to move up far enough to capture the Wanamaker.

While attending the PGA Championship can be a ton of fun, simply being able to watch golf on the game's grandest stages is an incredible treat each year. We here at CBS Sports are thrilled to bring you wall-to-wall coverage with action streaming live all weekend.

Xander Schauffele was cruising atop the leaderboard most of the day until a double bogey at 15, his only dropped shot of the afternoon. The world No. 3 bounced back admirably, though, making birdie at 17 and 18 to tie Morikawa entering the final round. This is the second time Schauffele has led entering the final round of a major — he shared the lead entering the final round at Carnoustie in the 2018 Open.

Schauffele, who led outright after each of the first two rounds, is the seventh man since 2000 to hold a share of the lead after Rounds 1, 2 and 3 at a PGA Championship. Four of the previous six went on to win. This is the fourth time in Schauffele’s career that he has been in the top five entering Sunday at a major — he did not break par in the final round in any of the previous three instances.

Collin Morikawa aiming to make major history

Collin Morikawa aiming to make major history

Collin Morikawa is looking for his third career major championship victory in his 18th major start. It has been nearly 47 years since a player reached three major wins in 18 attempts or fewer. The last to do it was Tom Watson , who got his third major title in his 17th career start at the 1977 Open. Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods won their third major in start No. 20, while Jordan Spieth did it in 19.

The only player in the PGA Championship stroke-play era (since 1958) to win the PGA Championship twice in his first five tries is Woods. Morikawa can join him with a win Sunday.

Collin Morikawa reliant on his short game this weekend

Collin Morikawa reliant on his short game this weekend

At 15 under par, Collin Morikawa is tied for the lead entering the final round of a major for the first time in his career. After missing each of his first three greens in regulation Saturday, Morikawa hit 12 of 15 the rest of the way, carding just a single bogey in his round. Renowned as one of the top iron players in the sport, Morikawa is tied for the lead despite ranking 24th in the field in strokes gained approach through three rounds. Instead, it’s been an excellent short game that’s led his charge; he tops the field this week in strokes gained around the green.

Storylines entering Sunday at the PGA Championship

The storylines heading into Sunday's final round are plentiful:

  • Schauffele looking to finally prove himself as a closer.
  • Morikawa ending a significant drought in the winning department.
  • Theegala ticking off his first major championship and contending on the biggest stage of his career.
  • Lowry translating a record-tying 62 Saturday into his second major.
  • DeChambeau, arguably the most entertaining golfer in the game right now, back on top again.
  • Hovland grabbing his first major title just a week after reuniting with his swing coach Joe Mayo.
  • Justin Rose becoming the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship in 100 years.

The list goes on. Tomorrow should be a fun one.

PGA Championship: Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele top crowded leaderboard

PGA Championship: Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele top crowded leaderboard

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Scottie Scheffler has dropped off, but a crowded leaderboard still exists after Round 3 of the PGA Championship on Saturday. Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele (15-under-par) will head to Valhalla Golf Club tied for the lead and play together in the final pairing, but seven other players are within four shots of them.

Schauffele, seeking his first major championship, has led after each round of the PGA Championship, but shares it for the first time with Morikawa, who is looking for major No. 3. The former shot a 68 on Saturday and the latter a 67.

Sahith Theegala is at 14-under after all three birdied the 18th hole to end the round. Shane Lowry (who shot a PGA Championship record-tying 62), Bryson DeChambeau and Viktor Hovland are tied for fourth at 13-under.

Then there’s European Ryder Cup members Justin Rose and Robert MacIntyre at 12-under and Dean Burmester at 11-under. Six more are tied at 10-under.

Morikawa, Schauffele co-54 hole leaders

Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele are your PGA Championship leaders headed into Sunday's final round, but you could argue that there are 18 players that have a realistic shot at winning this golf tournament. We knew Valhalla was primed for theatrics at the start of the week.

The course is long and it's all out there in front of you, meaning many players choose the same course management strategy to aggressively attack the soft set up. A "bunched" leaderboard was somewhat inevitable, but I don't think anyone expected it to be this good. The storylines heading into tomorrow's round are plentiful: Xander looking to finally prove himself as a closer. Morikawa ending a significant drought in the winning department. Sahith Theegala ticking off his first major championship and contending on the biggest stage of his career. Shane Lowry translating a record-tying 62 into a victory. Bryson DeChambeau — arguably the most entertaining golfer in the game right now — back on top again.

Viktor Hovland grabbing his first major title just a week after reuniting with his swing coach Joe Mayo. Justin Rose becoming the first Englishman to win the PGA Championship in 100 years. The list goes on.

Tomorrow should be a fun one.

Scheffler shoots 73, first over par round in 2024

Scottie Scheffler shoots a 2-over 73 in his third round at the PGA Championship.

It is Scheffler's first over-par round in 2024

Scheffler, the current Masters champion, is at 7-under-par heading into the final round.

Schauffele birdies 17, tied for the lead

Xander Schauffele birdies the par-4 17th.

He's now in a tie for the lead with Collin Morikawa at 14-under-par.

One hole to play in the third round.

DeChambeau eagles 18, moves to within 1 of the lead

DeChambeau 13-under-par

Bryson DeChambeau chips in for eagle on the par-5 18th.

He shoots a third-round 67 and is at 13-under-par, one off the lead.

What a finish to the round.

A two-shot swing at the 15th hole.

Collin Morikawa birdied the par-4 15th while Xander Schauffele bogeyed.

Morikawa is the solo leader at 14-under-par with Schauffele, Shane Lowry and Sahith Theegala one back.

Birdie. Schauffele.

Xander Schauffele drains a long birdie putt on the par-3 14th.

He extends his lead to 15-under-par, two ahead of Collin Morikawa and Shane Lowry.

What's at stake for Shane Lowry on Sunday

Shane Lowry was tied for 29th entering the 3rd round this week.

That would tie the second-largest 36-hole comeback by position in men's major championship history. Only David Duval at the 2001 Open (tied for 35th) would be bigger.

Shane Lowry shoots 62

Shane Lowry: Fifth round of 62 in men's major championship history; four have come in the last three majors

Lowry gained 6.4 strokes putting in today's round, a career high. His 11.26 strokes gained putting this week are the most through 3 rounds by anyone in a PGA Tour event in 2024.

Lowry tied for lead, shot at 61

Shane Lowry is 9 under through 17 holes today.

A birdie at the par-5 18th would give him the first 61 in men's major championship history.

Jordan Spieth shoots 69

Jordan Spieth is currently five back after posting 8 under through three rounds.

Since winning the third leg of the grand slam at the 2017 Open, the closest Spieth has been entering the final round of a PGA Championship is seven shots back (2021).

Shane Lowry had to hold his hand over his face in frustration at the Zurich with how bad he's been putting this year. He's losing as many as 1.5 strokes on the green most week, per DataGolf, and suddenly he's the greatest putter on Earth today. He just hit 37 and 32 foot birdies back to back to reach 12-under par, just one back of the lead. He's gaining nearly twice as many strokes putting compared to the next best putter today.
