In the core series games
Generation i.
When used in a wild encounter, it will attempt to catch the wild Pokémon with a catch rate modifier of 2×. The player can only have these Poké Balls in their possession during a Safari Game .
Generation II to VII
The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is now 1.5×.
Generation VIII
Starting in Pokémon Sword and Shield 's The Isle of Armor Expansion , the Safari Ball can now be obtained outside of a Safari Game and used in regular wild encounters. The Safari Ball cannot be used in situations in which Poké Balls cannot be used, such as in wild battles with two or more opponents currently present. If used in a Trainer battle, the opposing Trainer will bat the ball away, wasting the player's turn.
The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is 1× in Pokémon Sword and Shield, but was changed back to 1.5× in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl .
Generation IX
The Safari Ball's catch rate modifier is once again 1×.
Description
Acquisition.
When the player participates in a Safari Game , they receive 30 Safari Balls exclusively for use within the Safari Game. They are not placed in the player's Bag , and any unused Safari Balls are returned at the end of the Safari Game.
In Pokémon Yellow only, if the player does not have the required $ 500 to enter the Safari Zone, they can instead pay all of their money and receive a number of Safari Balls proportional to the amount paid. If they have no money, they can enter for free and receive a single Safari Ball.
Distribution
Cameo appearances.
Pokémon X and Y
Despite being unobtainable as an item in Generation VI , a Safari Ball appears in the Poké Ball Boutique in Lumiose City .
Kiloude City 's Friend Safari building contains a Safari Ball on its sign. However, the Friend Safari does not act like a typical Safari Zone and Safari Balls are not legitimately obtainable or used in the game.
In the anime
Main series
In EP035 , Kaiser gave Ash and his friends 30 Safari Balls to be used within the Kanto Safari Zone . Ash attempted to catch various rare Pokémon with them, but he ultimately ended up using all of his Safari Balls on nothing but Tauros . The Safari Balls containing Ash's Tauros reappeared in Showdown at the Po-Ké Corral ; however, for an unexplained reason, whenever Ash has subsequently used one of his Tauros in a battle , it has been sent out from a standard Poké Ball .
A Safari Ball appeared in Which One ~ Is It? , a Japanese ending theme from Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl , also marking the debut of the Ball's in-game design in the anime.
In A Frenzied Factory Fiasco! , while Safari Balls themselves did not appear at the Poké Ball Factory , Meowth was briefly painted on with the Safari Ball's camouflage pattern, revealing that these Balls are made at the factory. This is also the first time that the games' design of Safari Balls has appeared in the anime, outside of openings and endings.
Pokémon Origins
In File 4: Charizard , Red was seen catching a Chansey with a Safari Ball.
In the manga
Pokémon Adventures
Red, green & blue arc.
Safari Balls first appeared in Long Live the Nidoking! and A Hollow Victreebel , where Red received some from the robotic Safari Zone guide called Pidgebot , eventually catching a huge herd of Safari Zone Pokémon with them.
Diamond & Pearl arc
In A Skuffle with Skorupi , Diamond , Pearl , and Platinum entered the Great Marsh and received some Safari Balls to be used during the Safari Game, intending to catch a Grass-type Pokémon for Platinum to use against Crasher Wake . However, in the end, they failed to catch a single new Pokémon.
HeartGold & SoulSilver arc
In Weavile Wobbles But It Won't Fall Down , Silver received some Safari Balls while entering the Johto Safari Zone . He tried to use one on an Arbok , but Eusine stopped him, due to him having violated the Safari Zone's no-battling rule by attacking the Arbok with his Weavile .
Pokémon Zensho
In Fuchsia City , Satoshi received some Safari Balls while entering the Safari Zone.
- The Safari Ball is the only Poké Ball type introduced in Generation I not to be present in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! .

How to make every new Poké Ball in Pokémon: Isle of Armor
Unleash the power of the Apricorn.
The very special Apricorn Balls return to Pokémon Sword and Shield for the first time since the Johto games, Heart Gold and Soul Silver , making them a hot commodity for social currency like Shiny Raid fees. With the recently released Isle of Armor expansion , Apricorn Balls are more farmable than ever before.
Here's how to craft Apricon Balls, along with Safari and Sport Balls.
How to farm Apricorns in Isle of Armor
To make Apricorn Balls and the various other special balls, you first need to collect Apricorns, multi-colored berry-like items found around the island.
Tree Shaking
There are two methods you can use to obtain them. You can shake berry trees that you spot on your travels. Each shake has a chance of garnering you an Apricorn of any color or a berry. You can always shake a berry tree at least once before it starts to produce a wiggle of its own. This wiggle means that you've begun to disturb the Pokémon living in the tree. Time every shake after the first during that wiggle's lull to continue harvesting the tree. If a Pokémon attacks you from being too rough with the tree, you'll lose all your produce.
The second method is to speak to a woman (pictured below) in a blue shirt found around the Isle of Armor. For 100 Watts, which you can farm rather easily , she'll give you four Apricorns of the same color. She'll begin facilitating this trade after you've seen every Pokémon in Isle of Armor 's Pokédex. Until then, she'll show you a Pokémon you haven't seen when you interact with her. To expedite the time taken to see every Pokémon, make sure you speak to Hop in the dojo every day. Hop also tries to help by showing you new Pokémon.
Blue-shirted Ally
Once you've collected at least four Apricorns, you can try your hand at creating Apricorn Balls. Head to the Cramo-o-matic in the dojo, the mechanical marvel that looks just like a Crammorant found to the right of Honey.
How to properly use the Cramo-o-matic
Isle of Armor's new crafting system has tons of uses. You can use it to combine four of the same high-value item like Pearls, Nuggets, and Star Pieces to always earn the step up from those, being Pearl Strings, Big Nuggets, and Star Dust, respectively. You can also combine four Bottle Caps (which each max out IVs on a single stat) to make a Gold Bottle Cap that can be used to max IVs out on every stat.
Most importantly, you can use the Cramo-o-matic to obtain special balls like Apricorn Balls, Sport Balls, and Safari Balls. The success rate of this process isn't as clear obtaining single items, but it's doable nevertheless. Thanks to YouTuber AustinJohnPlays and Pokémon mega-site Serebii , there are concrete details on how this process works.
Firstly, you need four Apricorns of any color to start the crafting process. Each Apricorn color has access to a distinct possible ball result pool. The more Apricorns you use of the same color, the higher likelihood that if you do get an Apricorn ball it will be one from that color's pool. Additionally, it's believed that every Apricorn combination has an equal chance to create either a Sport or Safari Ball. You can see the entire combination chart below. The Cramo-o-matic's result will exude a shiny aura if you can successfully produce an Apricorn Ball.
Using this, you should eventually be able to obtain the Apricorn Ball of your dreams. If this seems too hectic, an alternative method is to consciously beat the Elite Four. Each time you emerge victorious, there's a random chance that you'll receive an Apricorn ball. The Pokémon Company is also known to occasionally distribute Apricorn Balls. If you're patient your desired balls will arrive, eventually.
Pokémon: Isle of Armor is now available for Nintendo Switch.

Isle Of Armor | Apricorn Guide - Balls List, Recipes & How To Get | Pokemon Sword And Shield
Learn all about Apricorns in this Pokemon Sword and Shield Isle of Armor DLC guide. Includes all Apricorn list, Apricorn Ball types, recipes, combinations, locations, and more!!!

Fruits Found In Isle Of Armor
The Isle of Armor brings with it the return of Apricorns! These unique fruits can only be found in Pokemon Sword and Shield by purchasing the expansion pass DLC.
All Apricorn Types List
Used to make makeshift pokeballs.
Apricorns are used by the Cram-o-matic to get rare Pokeballs. In order to make rare ball, you need plenty of Apricorns so collect as much as you can!
Turned Into Aprijuice
In previous installments in the franchise, Apricorns were also able to be blended to create Aprijuice. The effect of the Aprijuice varied depending on what type of Apricorn it was made with. This feature does not seem to be in Sword and Shield.
Apricorns - How To Get
Shake down from trees.
The only way to get Apricorns in Pokemon Sword and Shield is to shake them down from berry trees found all over the island. You will get a mix of Apricorns and Berries, but don't shake too much or you might shake down a Pokemon!
Exclusive To The Isle Of Armor & Crown Tundra
Apricorns are only available for players who have the Isle of Armor & Crown Tundra expansion. It's possible that trading could be an option, but previously, Pokemon holding Apricorns cannot be traded so they cannot be shared between players.
Complete Isle Of Armor Pokedex
The lady who offers to show Pokedex entries for 100 Watts will apparently go on to sell you Apricorns for 100 W after you complete the Isle of Armor Pokedex. We were able to confirm this only on one file that has a full Pokedex completed, so we're inclined to say that is the main condition for this, but we are not 100% sure.
Apricorn - How To Use
Exchange 4 for poke balls in cram-o-matic.
You can use 4 Apricorns of any color & feed them into Hyde's Cram-o-matic machine to get a Poke Ball.
Getting Rare Poke Balls Is Random
There's a chance you can receive a random rare Poke Ball when you feed 4 Apricorns to the Cram-o-matic. However, all evidence seems to suggest that this is random. We will continue to look into this.
Apricorn Poke Ball List - How To Get
Confirmed poke balls from apricorns, poke ball is determined by apricorn color.
You can feed Apricorns to the Cram-o-matic machine to get a variety of Poke Balls. However, note that rare balls have a very low probability of showing up. Also, Safari and Sport balls can be obtained using any color Apricorn .
Example Of Apricorns & Poke Balls
Apricorn color & poke ball results, rare ball probability.
We ran tests on the Cram-o-matic a total of 350 times and received a mere 6 rare Poke Balls . Though still under verification, the rate of getting rare Poke Balls appears to be somewhere around 1-2% .
*Below are all the Poke Balls our team was able to get using Apricorns. Let us know in the comments below if you've found any other Poke Balls!!!
Unconfirmed Pokeball Recipes
The recipes below are taken from the comment section of this article. Thank you for your help! Note that getting rare balls seems to be random.

Here's how it works, every pure combination of apricorns, (full blue, red, etc.) Offers a 1% chance at 2 rare apricon balls (dream, lure, etc) 2% for less rare, and literal bulks of rates for the usuals,(poké) mixing halves those rates
2 x Yellow, 1 x Green and 1 x Black gave me a dusk ball.
4 green makes safari got it twice don't think red does
I got a treat ball
3 black 1 white i got a luxury ball and a premium ball.

The Cram-O-Matic is a new mechanic introduced in Pokemon Sword & Shield . Here's how players can make Master Balls using this item. Pokemon Sword & Shield 's expansion pass is finally here. The first part being the Isle of Armor released this June . The second half of the DLC will be available this Fall, the Crown Tundra. One of the biggest additions to the Isle of Armor DLC is the Cram-O-Matic machine, a machine that allows players to recycle items for other items. This machine is in the shape of a Cramorant. This guide will help players understand what it takes to get Master Balls out of the Cram-O-Matic.

Cramorant is a new Pokemon introduced in the Galar region. It's a large blue bird that is seen around the region consuming other Pokemon like Pikachu and Arrokuda. The Cram-O-Matic can be found inside the Master's Dojo in the rightmost room. Hyde will introduce it to the player, stating that if the player inserts items into the Cram-O-Matic, something special will come out. The player is required to place 4 different items into the Cram-O-Matic for it to work. Here's how players can optimize their play to make it easier to get Master Balls on the Isle of Armor.
Making Master Balls With The Cram-O-Matic in Pokemon Sword & Shield
This is only available on the Isle of Armor, meaning the expansion pass is required to participate . Speak with Hyde in the Dojo and he will randomly give the player recipes for the Cram-O-Matic. Each recipe costs 100 Watts. The player will want the Rare Pokeball Recipe. This one requires that the player tosses in 4 Apricorns into the machine. These can be found in trees and on the ground all around the Isle of Armor. Although each time a prize comes out, it will be a different type of Pokeball. It can range from a Pokeball to an Ultra Ball. The Master Ball is extremely rare, easily the most difficult to get out of the machine. Keep throwing in Apricorns for a better chance at getting one.
The Isle of Armor DLC includes a new wild area for players to navigate , over 100 older Pokemon like Golduck and Poliwag, and a new legendary Pokemon, Kubfu. During the player's time in the Isle of Armor, the player will build a bond with Kubfu, exploring the scenery of the island and participating in battles together. This is one of the few times in the series where the game forces the player to bond with their Pokemon partner. Then, they will work together to take down one of the two towers on the island, the Tower of Water, or the Tower of Darkness. Depending on which tower the player selects, it will determine which form Kubfu will take when it evolves. The player can only select one tower. This Pokemon is extremely powerful and required for any player wishing to complete their Pokedex.

Hands-On Preview: Twilight Masquerade Is An Ogrepon Fan's Dream
- Twilight Masquerade features Ogrepon heavily, with 14 different versions in the set, but offers some fantastic art on other cards as well.
- The set is smaller than many previous Scarlet and Violet expansions, which may make master sets more attainable for collectors.
- While some may find the set lacking in appeal due to the new Pokemon focus, older Pokemon fans may appreciate the beautiful artwork included.
We're now into the DLC era of Scarlet & Violet's Pokemon TCG run. The previous set, Temporal Forces , which was released in March, was focused on the Paradox versions of historical legendaries, and now, the latest set, Twilight Masquerade, heavily features a brand-new Pokemon, Ogrepon, and its multitude of different variations.
Report: Pokemon TCG Sales Have "Tanked" Since The Release Of Scarlet And Violet
Ahead of its release on May 24, The Pokemon Company was kind enough to send us some products over to check out, and we have some thoughts.
Emerald Green Dream
As I've previously alluded to, nobody opens Pokemon Cards because of how the packaging looks. However, it's hard to deny that The Pokemon Company has knocked it out of the park once again.
This time around, the company has opted to release a single Elite Trainer Box rather than a pair , as has often been the case in the Scarlet and Violet era. In contrast to the slightly more understated Walking Wake ETB we received for Temporal Forces, Twilight Masquerade features a bold emerald green box emblazoned with the set's focal Pokemon, Ogrepon.
This time out, the pack art features Blood Moon Ursaluna, Ogrepon (of course), Dragapult, and Sinistcha, three new Pokemon, and one which debuted in Pokemon Sword and Shield .
The Pulls From 49 Packs
If you look back at my pulls from recent early hands-on openings , they've been middling at best. Twilight Masquerade seems to have bucked that trend.
My Elite Trainer Box and Build and Battle Kit provided me with two full art cards, Blood Moon Ursaluna ex and Scream Tail ex, an AR, Heliolisk, an Ace Spec Trainer and two exs. Not a bad return from 15 packs.
Twilight Masquerade seems to have bucked that trend.
The Booster Box was even better. I got the standard three AR cards, with both Applin and Dipplin, plus a really nice Wattrel card, another full art in Luxray ex, two Ace Spec Trainers, a Perrin full art and a bunch of ex. But the luck didn't stop there. I also pulled one of the four Ogrepon ex SAR cards in Wellspring Mask Ogrepon and one of the beautiful white background Tera cards in Cornerstone Mask Ogrepon ex. Not a bad return, especially when you compare it to my paltry pulls from Temporal Forces.
Thoughts On The Set
Set Details:
- 21 Illustration/Art Rares
- 11 Special Illustration/Art Rares
- 6 Ace Spec Trainers
- 6 Gold Cards
At the risk of sounding like a boomer, I think Twilight Masquerade leans too heavily into Ogrepon. While I appreciate it has a handful of different forms, it appears in the set 13 different times, 14 if you include the Elite Trainer Box Promo, meaning it's basically unavoidable. Don't get me wrong, some of the Ogrepon cards, namely the SARs, are pretty great looking, it's just a lot.
That being said, Ogrepon (and Sinistcha) aside, the art on many of these cards is fantastic. Taking the ARs specifically, Pinsir, Infernape, Froslass, Hisuian Growlithe, Tatsugiri, Probopass, and Chansey are all bangers, with a handful of others looking fantastic. I also love the Greninja, Blood Moon Ursaluna and Lana's Aid SARs, and Perrin's SAR linking to the Growlithe AR is a nice touch, so there's definitely been no slacking from the Pokemon TCG art department.
There's definitely been no slacking from the Pokemon TCG art department.
It also shouldn't go unnoticed that this expansion's size is significantly lower than some of the earlier Scarlet and Violet sets, which is a good thing. Sets like ScVi Base and Paldea Evolved featured 258 and 279 cards, respectively. Twilight Masquerade clocks in at 226, between 30-50 cards down on its predecessors. While not quite as low as the Sun & Moon days, which made master sets more attainable for collectors, it's a step in the right direction.
Maybe I'm a little down on Twilight Masquerade as, for my money, the Scarlet and Violet games are not great, and thus, I didn't dive into the DLC. This has meant I have very little attachment to these Pokemon. I can't help but feel, though, a higher concentration of older Pokemon would have helped things out. As has often been the case, there are some genuinely wonderful cards in the set; I'm just not sure it's for me.

Years after the game first arrived, a Master Ball can be obtained in Pokémon Go .
The Master Ball is perhaps the most iconic Pokémon-catching device of all time. First appearing way back in Pokémon Red and Blue of the main series, the Master Ball has a very special trait — a 100% catch rate on any Pokémon you use it on.
Long-time players of Pokémon Go will be very familiar with that sinking feeling of finishing a raid and failing to catch the subsequent encounter, and with the Master Ball, this is one way to ensure the Pokémon will definitely be yours.
However, know that Master Balls are very rare, and should be used sparingly. With that in mind — how do you get a Master Ball in Pokémon Go , and when should you use one?
How to get a Master Ball in Pokémon Go
New Master Balls are added to Pokémon Go as part of seasonal or timed research quests.
The next opportunity will be with the Masterwork Research: Catching Wonders research quest , which debuts on Tuesday, May 14, part of Season 14: World of Wonders.
Not only will this be free for all players, but it’ll be classed as a special research quest — meaning once you have started the quest, there is no time limit for completing each step.
This is not the first time a Master Ball has been added to the game. Previous releases include:
- Let’s Go Special Research as part of Season 10: Rising Heroes , after completing the fifth step. This is when the Master Ball first debuted, and if you logged into the game before the season ended on June 1, 2023, the opportunity to complete the quest and earn a Master Ball will still be available in the ‘Special’ quests tab.
- Timed Investigation: Master Ball as part of Season 12: Adventures Abound . This was time-limited research which ran until Dec 1, 2023, and involved a variety of lengthy objectives, including catching 1,000 Pokémon, spinning 300 PokéStops and completing 150 Field Research tasks.
Here’s how the Master Ball is introduced as part of the Let’s Go Special Research as part of 2023’s Rising Heroes season:

Can you get more than one Master Ball in Pokémon Go?
Unlike the main games, where the Master Ball is often a one-off item, it’s possible to acquire more than one Master Ball in Pokémon Go .
To date, it has debuted in three seasons so far — Season 10, Season 12, and Season 14 — as a mix of free Special and Timed Research. The current track record suggests a new Master Ball will be available every other season — meaning we can expect a fourth Master Ball as part of Season 16 sometime between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1, 2024.
And yes, you can carry more than one Master Ball at once — so if you’re not sure what to use it on, there’s no rush in keeping a few in your inventory.
Either way, Master Balls are rare — so earn them while you can! When you finally get your hands on one - what is it best used for?
Master Ball best use: When should I use my Master Ball in Pokémon Go?
Master Balls are very rare, and with a 100% catch rate, should ideally only be used in very specific circumstances.
What you decide to use it on is entirely up to you — however, we have some recommendations for the best use of a Master Ball:
- Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres found when using Daily Adventure Incense, which currently have a 0.3% catch rate and a 90% flee rate, and are arguably the most difficult Pokémon to catch in the game.
- A high IV legendary encounter following a raid that you want to level up, such as Mewtwo . We recommend using your regular set of Premier Balls first, then using a Master Ball as a last resort.
- Incredibly rare wild encounters such as the “Lake Trio” Uxie, Mesprit or Azelf, or Unown — the exceptions for Unown being a letter/form you already have, or if it spawns during an event, when they are far more common.
- A shiny Pokémon in the wild . Some exceptions to this include the encounter following a raid (when the catch is guaranteed with your first Premier Ball, provided you land it), and during events such as Community Day, when shinies are far more common.
Ultimately, it’s your call what you decide to use a Master Ball on. If you decide to use it on a Pidgey, go ahead — we’ve all been there — but we recommend saving it for an encounter with a Pokémon you would not want to live without.
Can you miss with a Master Ball in Pokémon Go?
Finally, one question that might come to mind is — can you miss with a Master Ball?
The good news is no, as a special animation will play as soon as you activate the ball. This not only means you will definitely catch it, but brings a little more fanfare to the occasion of putting the Master Ball to use.
You can watch this in action via PokeMiners on Twitter :
Throw cutscene. Looks the same as the one we posted, can't tell the difference. /s pic.twitter.com/Kfpe5GRuwh — PokeMiners (@poke_miners) May 21, 2023
Additionally, as shown in the above video, you will get a prompt before you use the Master Ball — meaning it will be difficult to throw one by accident.
The next level of puzzles.
