Stereophonics have announced their 12th album Oochya! by sharing new single “Hanging On Your Hinges” and details of a UK tour.

The Welsh rock veterans will be celebrating their 25th anniversary next year with the new record – following on from 2019’s chart-topping ‘Kind’ and Jones’ solo album Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day , released in 2020 – and a major arena tour for March. They’ll also cap off 2021 with a huge homecoming festive stadium show in December at Cardiff Principality Stadium.

With the album set for release on March 4, 2022, Kelly Jones told NME how Oochya! is a “90 per cent up-tempo” album, and grew from plans to initially release a compilation marking 25 years since the Welsh band’s first single “Looks Like Chaplin” was released in 1996. Oochya! was recorded in just seven days, produced by Jones with regular Stereophonics producers Jim Lowe and George Drakoulias.

The album comes previewed by the fast-paced “Hanging From Your Hinges”, which Jones said was influenced by ZZ Top. You can check the track out below.

Stereophonics - Hanging On Your Hinges (Official Lyric Video)

Explaining the new album title in an interview with NME, Kelly Jones said: “When we were recording Language. Sex. Violence. Other in 2004, it was a word I started writing around the studio, but I don’t know where the hell it came from! To me, it’s a word that Paul Weller or Cockneys like Chas And Dave would say, like ‘Let’s _king have it!’ I like records like Aerosmith’s Pump or The Rolling Stones’ Grrr! and Honk, where the word doesn’t mean anything but still gives you a flavor. The title has a lot to do with the mood of the record, I think. Once you’re going to call your record Oochya! , it can’t be too introspective.”

Before the album, Stereophonics play at Cardiff Principality Stadium on December 18, supported by Tom Jones and Catfish And The Bottlemen. It’s followed by an 11-date tour starting at Manchester Arena on March 18 and including a show at London O2 on April 1, before finishing at Birmingham Resorts World Arena on April 2. Full dates are below, with tickets on sale from 9am on Friday (September 10). Visit the band’s official website for further information.

Stereophonics play the following UK tour dates:

December 2021: 18 – Principality Stadium, Cardiff (With Tom Jones and Catfish And The Bottlemen)

March 2022: 18 – Arena, Manchester 20 – P&J Arena, Aberdeen 21 – Hydro, Glasgow 23 – Arena, Leeds 24 – Arena, Newcastle 26 – Centre, Brighton 27 – BIC, Bournemouth 29 – Arena, Liverpool 30 – Arena, Nottingham

Stereophonics is a Welsh rock and alternative rock band formed in 1992. The band has become a staple of the British rock mainstream, receiving regular radio air play and high charting albums, hailing from Cwmaman, Mid Glamorgan, Wales.

Living on the same street in the village of Cwmaman, frontman and guitarist Kelly Jones and drummer Stuart Cable soon began playing together in Jones’ Dad’s garage. A few years later after going their separate ways and meeting each other at a bus stop, Jones and Cable reunited and invited bassist Mark Everett to join the band. Everett didn’t last long however as after returning from holiday found Kelly Jones’ long-time friend Richard Jones had taken his place. After futile searches for a lead guitarist the Tragic Love Company, as they were called, stuck as a three piece and began courting labels.

In 1996 the Stereophonics signed with Richard Branson’s new label V2, and released their debut album “Word Gets Around”in August 1997. The album became an instant hit peaking at No. Six on the UK Albums chart, and was supported by a successful world tour. Led by the single “Local Boy in the Photograph” the album earned the band the BRIT Award for Best New Group and was certified gold in the UK. Ahead of their sophomore album, Stereophonics released the single “The Bartender and the Thief” in 1998, which became a staple on British radio, continuing the band’s single success. The full-length “Performance and Cocktails” appeared in 1999 and topped the UK Album Chart, proving the band were no one trick ponies.

After performing to 50,000 people at the Morfa Stadium in Swansea and collaborating with Tom Jones on the Randy Newman song “Mama Told Me Not To Come”, Stereophonics embarked on a world tour including parts of Europe, Australia and the British Isles. The studio album “Just Enough Education to Perform” was issued in April 2011 and spawned the singles “Mr. Writer”, “Have a Nice Day”, “Step On My Old Size Nince”, and “Handbags and Gladrags”. Seemingly going from strength the strength the band played to over 200,000 people over the two day festival, A Day at the Races, and released their fourth album “You Gotta Go There to Come Back” in 2003. Following the release original drummer Cable was dropped from the group for a lack of commitment and was ultimately replaced by Javier Weyler.

Stereophonics’ fifth studio album “Language. Sex. Violence. Other?” was issued in March 2005, led by the group’s first No. One single “Dakota”. The album topped the UK Albums Chart once again and spawned the subsequent singles “Superman” and “Devil”. The Kelly Jones solo album “Only the Names Have Been Changed” was released in early 2007, followed by the Stereophonics full-length “Pull the Pin” in October 2007. The compilation album “Decade in the Sun: The Best of Stereophonics” arrived in 2008 and charted at No. Two on the UK Albums Chart. The band subsequently released the album “Keep Calm and Carry On” in 2009, and “Graffiti on the Train” in 2013.

Live reviews

STEREOPHONICS at the Olympia January 26, 2018

Two years exactly after their previous concert in Paris, the Olympia hosted, for a sold out show, the Stereophonics for the second date of their European tour after L'Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.

Alex Francis and his musicians open the ball with a well-crafted mix of soul, pop and rock, that is very pleasant indeed, and the public welcomed him warmly.

After this excellent introduction our favorite Welshmen invest the stage. Surprise ! The opening song is not "Caught By The Wind", one of the best tracks of their last album, nor "C’est la vie", which nevertheless made the opening of the American tour and that of Brussels. It is true that Stereophonics, unlike many main bands, do not keep the same setlist from the beginning to the end of their tour, so we will probably have some surprises ! It is with a vitaminized version of "Chances Are", which sounds even more rock than the studio version, that the Welsh start the concert. Kelly Jones and his acolytes have chosen to offer us six tracks of the latest album "Scream Above The Sound" and a medley of their best songs picked up from their ten studio albums and composed according to the mood of the moment. This is how we will be entitled to the song "100 MPH" little played live but that works very well on stage indeed. We realize that Stereophonics have produced a huge number of very beautiful pieces of music over the years, because during all the concert the pleasure was permanent. None of the 24 titles played during the 2h lasting show can be considered as weak. The realization has also been perfect, showing impeccable mastery. The lights, well thought out, have perfectly highlighted the show and the big screen placed behind the stage has also contributed to the pleasure of the show by alternating clip images and various illustrations sometimes almost hypnotic. Kelly Jones does not interact much with the audience, but everything is done with warmth and we feel the pleasure that the musicians have to be back in Paris. Kelly will also make a small visit to the audience of the 1st rank on the occasion of a superb guitar solo. Another notable moment is the magnificent guitar solo, performed by Kelly, who will punctuate the no less superb song "All In One Night", from the last album ; I really love the guitar riff that accompanies it from beginning to end . In the same way, we will remember the energy deployed by drummer Jamie Morrison for an extraordinary finale of "Mr and Mrs Smith" first title of the encore before "Dakota" which will close the show. The Stereophonics have achieved the alchemy of a perfect technical performance and excellent sound, with the specific and special ingredients of a live performance that can not be found on the albums and that makes the live performance so special ... Another thing to highlighted is the audience who will show his enthusiasm throughout this excellent concert, making it even better. This excellent performance of Stereophonics had a really euphoric effect: for a few weeks I was in a moody mood, mainly because of this permanent greyness of wintertime that makes you down. But at the end of the show I came out with a smile like a banana, glad to have taken care of my ears and eyes! Thank you Stereophonics and impatiently waiting for your next show!

Frequenters of the UK festival circuit year after year, Welsh rock outfit Stereophonics are without a doubt one of the country's most universally loved artists. Perhaps it is there timeless hit singles or the manner in which they conduct a crowd, either way they are simply made for a festival and really unite almost the whole audience no matter what your preference of genre.

The quartet files out onto stage in time with the bellowing cheers with Kelly Jones heading up the rear before proudly taking the mic and beginning with a rousing version of 'Catacomb'. They run through a packed setlist at rapid pace in order to fit in the likes of 'Just Looking' 'Local Boy in the Photograph' and 'Traffic'. The audience remains receptive and enthusiastic throughout perhaps due to them patiently waiting for the singalong anthems of 'Have A Nice Day' and 'Dakota'. Although Stereophonics have never particularly broke through as a major chart act, they have a strong and sturdy discography that seems to be ageing like fine wine.

Stereophonics is a Welsh band of huge success in the British indie and mainstream music scene. The alternative rock band are still one of the staples of the British rock and alternative music scene today and, beloved as they are by all ages alike, it is extraordinary to think that the band formed way back in 1992. The band are regulars on the festival circuits in Britain and still headline many large festivals, performing in front of thousands of eager fans, many of whom were not even born when the band first formed, yet view the band as a staple of their own generation. Perhaps that is the secret of Stereophonics success. Their music is able to resonate with each generation as slyly as if their sound was developed specifically for that generation, for that individual. Indeed, there is something wonderfully personal about their music that is able to evoke a thousand different emotions. Yet their music also translates brilliantly on an open stage, in front of thousands, in an exciting and energetic manner.

Stereophonics are without doubt one of my favourite bands.

I've been following them since 2001 when I saw them at Wembley Arena and have seen them at many venues since including 02 Arena, V Festival. Kelly Jones has an amazing voice and he tells a good story too.

A Stereophonics gig usually involves a bit of banter with the crowd and sometimes a few tales about the history of some of his songs. He also did a solo tour a few years ago (playing at Cadogan Hall, which is generally more used to classical concerts) and the band have also played at the Royal Albert Hall at the Teenage Cancer Trust concerts.

He is also a great guitarist, whether its acoustic or electric and writes some interesting lyrics and great melodies.

If you want to see a band with a great sound and a lead singer with a terrific voice, with a great repertoire including the No 1 hit song "Dakota" (usually their final song of the evening), you can't fail to enjoy Stereophonics. Absolutely brilliant.

If there's any band that I've seen that sound as good live as they do on records then it's The Sterophonics. It goes without saying that Kelly Joneses voice is (as once described) whisky. The raspiness and control is mesmerising. The current set up of band members works really well. From the enthusiastic, on point drumming and fancy socks (yep, he drums in his socks) of Jamie Morrison to the amazing fingers of Adam Zindani and Richard Jones the whole gig was awesome.

The mix of new and old songs gave all of us an insight to what fans can from the band going forward but also had us singing our heads off to the ones we already knew and love!

Last night at Plymouth was my fifth Stereophonics gig. Once again I came home sweaty and with a sore throat from singing but I absolutely intend to do it all again whenever I can!

This band make a Welsh girl like me proud! Keep doing what you do boys!

Great gig. Wasn’t sure how this would be in a relatively small venue, but I’ve seen a couple of bands at the Bonus Arena now and the acoustics are pretty good. Last time I saw Stereophonics it was more of a ‘greatest hits’ review, but the playlist was a bit more varied last night as well as some classics, so better overall, but still missing some great tunes that don’t get played an awful lot (same size feet, t-shirt sun tan, goldfish bowl etc). Loved their last 3 albums and plenty were showcased last night. The band were tight as always and some great solos by Adam, Jamie and of course Kelly. Liked the stage set up to, gives the show a different feel than a stadium gig. What I would like to see is a different finishing song!!!! Why always Dakota when you’ve got such an awesome back catalogue? Just my thoughts.

As always The Stereophonics delivered the set of all sets. Normally a morbid crowd at the O2 London but the crowd actually got into it. From the kick off with the first single from new album with C'est La Vie in fine style with Kelly standing showing his silouette behind a huge white sheet (epic!) then played most of their big songs as well as all my favourites from "Word Gets Around" 6 new songs were played with "Sunny" and "Mr and Mrs Smith" getting my jumping around air guitaring like a mad man seal of approval. Ending with Dakota always a highlight but when Comedian Rob Brydon appeared instead of Tom Jones for "Mama told me not to come" and a 3min comedy sketch that had to be one of the highlights! Great gig always a pleasure and still is from when I first saw them back in '98

At the Pricipality Stadium, this was the 9th time I have seen the Stereophonics. Being a “home town” gig, the crowd were, as you would expect, really into it! The Welsh male voice choir introducing the band was a great touch and the playlist was awesome. A brilliant mid-show song with Tom Jones was one of the highlights. I watched the gig back on BBC iplayer which was well produced, but nothing can replicate actually being there! I always enjoy the drum solo on Mr and Mrs Smith, but the best version I have seen was at the Manchester arena where the drum kit was raised up from ground level! I actually really like the fact that Dakota is the final song as you know that there is no point hanging around for any further encores. I am looking forward to my 10th gig!

First Stereophonics concert and first stadium concert as well! Band were brilliant, just wish I was closer to the action. Played a good mix of their great new stuff from the last couple of albums and plenty of their older classics as well. Sound system was not the best, couldn't hear what Kelly Jones was saying and it was exceptionally loud. People in front of me left as it was too loud for them. Went with a friend who had watched the Manics at The Liberty Stadium the week before and he said the organisation in Cardiff was rubbish compared to in Swansea. Can't wait to watch the band again, but not in Cardiff City Stadium.

A completely full arena always creates an electric gig . All the crowd were on good friendly but excitable form. Me & my friend fast realised that we were one of the few Mancs - it seems many folk had come from North Wales for the concert. It made me proud to have some musical tourism in the city.

The stereophonics were very impressive- you really do forget exactly how many amazing songs they have. A very full set meant there was Little talking in between.

I go to that arena for many gigs - but as I left last night it was one of the only times the crowds were singing in unison at the top of their voices as they left .

Kelly says of the new single: "Hanging On Your Hinges was influenced by my love of early ZZ Top and darker stuff like Masters Of Reality and maybe some Iggy Pop too and probably nods back to Bartender And The Thief. It’s the song on this album that says Oochya! more than anything else, so it’s something we wanted the fans to hear first."

As for that unusual album title, Jones explains: "Oochya! was always a saying me and the band used in the studio to mean “let’s have it”, a blast of energy and optimism and that’s what we wanted to get across with Hinges.”

Stereophonics' 12th album: Here's everything we know so far

We officially have a name and date!

Stereophonics are one of the most enduring indie bands of the last few decades. From its inception in 1992 under the name Tragic Love Company (thank goodness they changed it) through to their 11th album 'Kind' in 2019, the Welsh rockers have remained a staple of the genre.

As we look forward to new music from the group that brought us 'Dakota' and 'Have A Nice Day', fans are understandably wondering when they can hear new music from Stereophonics - and we don't have to wait too long, with their upcoming 12th album 'Oochya!' being set for release on Friday 4th March 2022!

What will Stereophonics' 12th studio album be called?

The upcoming 12th studio album from Stereophonics will be called ' Oochya! ' and will contain 15 tracks.

The first taster of ‘Oochya!’, 'Hanging On Your Hinges', was premiered by the band on 6th September 2021. Take a listen here...

The band even announced that they will be taking the new album on tour in 2022 , touring the UK throughout March and April.

Kelly Jones announces that Stereophonics have finished work on their 12th studio album

Kelly, who released his solo album ‘Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day’ in 2020, shared a short video from the recording studio on Stereophonics’ social channels on 22nd June, confirming that the album will come out before the end of 2021.

When will Stereophonics' 12th album be released?

Stereophonics' 12th studio album 'Oochya!' will be released on Friday 4th March 2022!

Sitting alongside mixer Al Clay, who Stereophonics have previously worked with on 1999’s ‘Performance and Cocktails’ and 2019’s ‘Kind’, Kelly said: “So, there you have it folks. We’ve just finished mixing the 12th album in the 25th year – Mr Alistair Clay; ‘Al’ to his friends and ‘Big Al’ to Hans Zimmer.

“So here we are. It will be coming to you… unfortunately (we have to wait) another five months, but we had to get it out now to Germany to meet the vinyl cutting deadline after Brexit. I won’t bore you with it. Adios Amigos!”

Stereophonics’ last album ‘Kind’ was released in October 2019 and it became the band’s seventh Number 1 album in the UK shifting more than 30,000 copies in its first week.

Three months after its release, Stereophonics played a very special concert for Absolute Radio at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town ahead of their UK arena tour.

You can watch extended highlights from the Absolute Radio gig below featuring ‘Superman’, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’, ‘Bust This Town’, ‘Fly Like An Eagle’, ‘Boy On A Bike’, ‘Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day’, ‘Have A Nice Day’, ‘Indian Summer’, ‘Make Friends With The Morning’, ‘C’est La Vie’, ‘This Life Ain’t Easy (But It’s the One That We All Got)’ and ‘Dakota.’

Watch extended highlights of Stereophonics' Absolute Radio concert:

Kelly Jones released his solo album ‘Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day’ and a documentary of the same name shortly before Christmas 2020.

Boasting 21 tracks, the ‘Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day’ album features reimagined, stripped back versions of Stereophonics classics and solo tracks recorded during Kelly Jones’ June and July 2019 UK tour.

The 23 worst original names of famous bands:

Stereophonics - tragic love company.

Members of various bands in their hometown of Cwmaman in the late eighties and early nineties, Kelly Jones, Stuart Cable and Richard Jones eventually became a trio in 1992 and started gigging as Tragic Love Company. The moniker was taken from the name of three of their favourite bands at the time; the Tragically Hip, Mother Love Bone and Bad Company. After they recorded an early demo of their seminal anthem 'A Thousand Trees', local promoter Wayne Coleman booked them to play a series of shows across South Wales on the provision they changed their name. Late-great drummer Stuart Cable got the final name from the 'Falcon Stereophonic' gramophone.

The Stone Roses - The Angry Young Teddy Bears

According to producer John Leckie, who helmed The Stone Roses' seminal self-titled 1989 debut album, the band almost called themselves The Angry Young Teddy Bears. "That's ('The Angry Young Teddy Bears') what the Roses were thinking of calling themselves when I met them," Leckie told Q Magazine in 2016. "It sort of suits them in a funny way. The thing with the Roses is that even though there is a punk heritage, they're hippies. Ian especially. It sounds corny, but there's a lot of love there, and you don't really get that with other Manchester bands." They ultimately opted for The Stone Roses and the rest, they say, is history.

Kaiser Chiefs – Runston Parva

When Nick Hodgson, Andrew White and Ricky Wilson formed the band in 1996, they took their bizarre Runston Parva moniker from the name of a small East Yorkshire hamlet called Ruston Parva. With Nick Baines and Simon Rix later in their ranks, they dumped the 'Runston' and they were signed up to the Beggars Banquet Records subsidiary label Mantra Records. However, despite four single releases, Parva were left label-less when Mantra folded in 2003 and their album '22' went unreleased. Fed up with their bad luck, they renamed themselves Kaiser Chiefs after the South African football club Kaizer Chiefs.

Muse – Rocket Baby Dolls

When frontman Matt Bellamy and drummer Dominic Howard's former band Gothic Plague (surprisingly not a death metal group) split following a series of rifts, they enlisted new bassist Chris Wolstenholme and changed their name to Rocket Baby Dolls. Soon realising it was woeful, after just one gig – their triumphant battle of bands performance at Broadmeadow Sports Centre in Teignmouth in 1994 – they switched it for Muse.

Goo Goo Dolls – The Sex Maggots

Originally a covers band, Goo Goo Dolls were known as the Sex Maggots when they were gigging around Buffalo, New York in 1986. However, they were reportedly forced to find a new moniker when a local promoter refused to put their band name on his marquee. They took their name from a toy called a Goo Goo Doll that they stumbled across in an advert in True Detective magazine. Singer Johnny Rzeznik has since quipped: "It's the best we came up with, and for some reason it stuck. If I had five more minutes, I definitely would have picked a better name."

Coldplay - Starfish

When future Coldplay frontman Chris Martin met Welsh guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London in 1996, the musical kindred spirits formed a group called Pectoralz. With bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion joining their ranks the following year, they changed their name to Starfish. The band performed their debut show at the now closed Laurel Tree pub in Camden in January 1998 as Starfish and had a number of equally terribly titled songs including the cringey 'Ode to Deoderant'. Several weeks later they changed their name to Coldplay after a good chum called Tim Crompton kindly agreed they could nick the moniker of his own group.

Elbow - Mr Soft

Formed in Bury in 1990, Guy Garvey, Mark Potter, Richard Jupp and bassist Pete Turner called themselves Mr. Soft in homage to the character in the Trebor Softmints advert in the late eighties that was soundtracked by Cockney Rebel's song of the same name, 'Mr. Soft'. Soon shortened to just Soft, the band redubbed themselves Elbow in 1997 and took inspiration from the BBC TV drama The Singing Detective where a character called Philip Marlow calls the word "elbow" as the prettiest word in the English language.

Pearl Jam – Mookie Blaylock

Keen aficionados of the legendary New York Jets basketball player Mookie Blaylock, Eddie Vedder and co. decided to name their band in his honour. After playing a series of shows as Mookie Blaylock, they renamed themselves Pearl Jam in October '90 after signing to Epic Records. The origins of the name are somewhat cloudy, related either to Eddie Vedder's great grandmother Pearl / seeing Neil Young "jam" live / a naughty euphemism, depending on who you talk to... Mookie himself is said to be a big fan of Pearl Jam's music.

Nirvana – Pen Cap Chew

Previously a member of the delightfully named Fecal Matter – aka Brown Towel – Kurt Cobain already had a history of hilariously bad band names before starting his new outfit with Krist Novoselic. After trialling a few dodgy names including Skid Row, Ted Ed Fred and, most notably, Pen Cap Chew, they had a eureka moment and settled on Nirvana. Kurt told Rolling Stone in 1992: "I wanted a name that was kind of beautiful or nice and pretty instead of a mean, raunchy punk name like the Angry Samoans." A superb choice.

Radiohead – On A Friday

Formed while students at Abingdon School, Oxfordshire in 1985, Thom Yorke, Philip Selway, Ed O'Brien, Johnny Greenwood and Colin Greenwood called themselves On A Friday in reference to the rehearsal day in their school's music room. The name stuck for six years until they signed a six-album deal with EMI Records in 1991 and the label requested they ditched it. They opted for Radiohead after the 1986 Talking Heads song 'Radio Head'.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem

Founded at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles in 1983, Anthony Kiedis, Hillel Slovak, Flea and Jack Irons gave themselves the flabbergasting name Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem. According to Kiedis, the name was intended to reflect the "majestic and chaotic" nature of the band. After two shows as Tony Flow… in November of '83 the group opted for the comparatively normal moniker Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - The Golliwogs

Originally named The Blue Velvets, when the band recorded some tracks for Fantasy Records in 1964, label co-owner Max Reiss decided to change it to The Golliwogs after the minstrel doll of the same name. Late rhythm guitarist Tom Fogarty said: "I think, at least to Max anyway, 'Golliwogs' sounded sort of British. We always hated the name but Max owned the label and we were new and wanted very much to make records, so we went along with things." Three years later the name was thankfully dropped.

Nickelback – Village Idiots

When the young Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger and former drummer Brandon Kroeger formed a covers band in the early 1990s largely pilfering from Metallica, Led Zeppelin and Megadeth's back catalogue, they dubbed themselves the Village Idiots. Realising it would make them a laughingstock on the bigger stage, they later changed it to Nickelback in reference to the nickel in change Mike often gave his customers while working at Starbucks – "Here's your nickel back."

Black Sabbath – The Polka Tulk Blues Band

It's almost impossible to think of a more inappropriate band name as The Polka Tulk Blues Band to fit with Sabbath's crushing heavy metal sounds. Fortunately, they saw sense and abandoned the name in the late 60s with a scathing Iommi telling Ozzy: "Every time I hear it, all I can picture is you, with your trousers around your ankles, taking a f***ing dump. It's crap." Black Sabbath was inspired by three things - the Boris Karloff film of the same name, a dark vision bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler once had, and the work of occult novelist Dennis Wheatley.

Snow Patrol – Shrug

Four years before the formation of Snow Patrol, singer Gary Lightbody and bassist Mark McClelland along with drummer Michael Morrison formed the rather indifferent monikered band Shrug. They self-released the brilliantly titled demo 'The Yogurt vs Yogurt Debate' in 1994 and changed their name to Polarbear in 1996 after discovering there was already an American band called Shrug. Following an EP called 'Starfighter Pilot' in 1997 and the exit of Morrison, the band morphed into Snow Patrol the following year.

KISS – Wicked Lester

Binning their Rainbow moniker when they discovered there was already another band with the same name, in 1971 the group renamed themselves Wicked Lester. During their brief existence the folk/pop/rock group played in public just twice before Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley decided to delve into rock and roll and recruit new members. With Ace Frehley on board by Christmas '72 they changed their name to KISS and played their first live show a month later.

Van Halen – Rat Salad

Van Halen originally called themselves Genesis until they found out a certain British progressive rock band shared then name. The band then redubbed themselves Mammoth… only to discover that was being used too! Still predominately a covers band, the Van Halen brothers toyed with Rat Salad (after the Black Sabbath song) but Dave Lee Roth countered with their surname. Originally worried about it sounding self-absorbed, the whole band eventually agreed to adopt it.

Creed – Naked Toddler

The astonishingly atrocious and inappropriate band name was suggested by guitarist Mark Tremonti in the mid-nineties after he read a story in the press about an abducted child. Unable to settle on a suitable band name at the time, they often performed under a name taken from the headlines in that day's newspaper. Naively adopting Naked Toddler for one show at a club called Yanni's, Scott Stapp revealed in his 2012 autobiography that it was rightfully met with indignation. "The name didn't go over well. Girls hated it and said it made them think of paedophilia. They had a point." We couldn't have put it better ourselves…

U2 - Feedback/The Hype

When drummer Larry Mullen posted a notice looking for band members at Mount Temple Comprehensive School, the resulting group were called The Larry Mullen Band "for about ten minutes" before Bono swept aside the idea. They then opted for Feedback, after the screeching sound that came out of their amps, only to switch it for the decidedly pop band-esque name The Hype in 1977. Eventually they settled on U2 for its "ambiguity and open-ended interpretations."

Blur – Seymour

Formed from the ashes of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Alex James' previous group Circus, the band called themselves Seymour in December 1988 after J. D. Salinger's 1963 novella 'Seymour: An Introduction'. When they were signed to Food Records in 1990, the imprint wisely rejected the terrible name and the band decided on Blur after drawing up a list of alternatives.

Simon and Garfunkel – Tom & Jerry

When they were just 15 years old in 1956, the fresh-faced Paul Simon and Arthur Garfunkel assumed the name Tom & Jerry seemingly in reference to the hit Hanna and Barbera cartoon of the same name. Simon even dubbed himself Tom Graph and Garfunkel took on the name Jerry Landis. The pair scored a minor hit called 'Hello Schoolgirl' before going their separate ways. In 1964 they reconvened as a duo and decided to use their real names to stay "true" to themselves.

Linkin Park – Xero

Formed by high school chums Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson in 1996, with Joe Hahn and singer Mark Wakefield recruited later that year, Linkin Park were somewhat regrettably originally known as Xero - a name that sounds more like a brand of photocopier than a band. After recording a self-titled EP, Wakefield quit the group when tensions grew when they failed to secure a record deal. Xero recruited Arizona vocalist Chester Bennington in 1999 and they changed their name to Hybrid Theory before eventually settling on Linkin Park in homage to Santa Monica's Lincoln Park.

Pink Floyd – Screaming Abdabs

Pink Floyd were formed from the ashes of a band that had a series of bizarre transitory names. First called Sigma 6 (there were six members including Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason), in 1964 they adopted a series of short-lived but gloriously ridiculous names including Leonard's Lodgers, the Meggadeaths and the Screaming Abdabs. A year later Syd Barratt coined Pink Floyd after finding inspiration from the Piedmont blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

There are also disco balls to give a nightclub feel to the performance.

Taylor Swift stares into the camera from the stage.

There’s no time like the present, Swifties.

On April 19, Taylor Swift dropped her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poet’s Department.” As expected, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter became the internet’s main character.

Some raved about the sprawling, ambitious double album; others criticized the record for its length, subject matter and lyrics.

All we know is that in the seven days that have passed, ticket prices to see Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ live have plummeted for most of her concerts in Europe.

Based on our findings, most shows have seats available that are significantly cheaper than they cost just a week ago.

In fact, some tickets are over $1,000 less than they were on April 19 already.

While it’s not the case for her U.S. and Canada gigs — where prices have mostly stayed flat or slowly risen — we’d argue it might be in your best interest to book tickets to an overseas ‘Eras Tour’ concert given this cooldown.

Want to find out how much tickets cost for ‘Eras Tour’ concerts versus what they were going for on April 19?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about Taylor Swift’s 2024 tour below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Taylor Swift 2024 tickets

A complete calendar including all upcoming tour dates, venues, and the best ticket prices for all concerts versus what they cost on April 19 can be found here.

*The lower ticket price is in bold.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Taylor Swift set list

While Swift is known for dropping a surprise song or two into her shows, the tracks stay surprisingly consistent for most gigs (although that will likely change in the wake of “TTPD’s” release).

In any event, here’s what Tay Tay played at her final live show of 2023 in Brazil, according to  Set List FM :

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely over the past year.

Over the past few months, we spoke to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live and  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s  “The Tortured Poets Department”  was released at midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, we particularly enjoyed the sleek, synth-y “Fortnight,” icy “So Long, London,” anthemic “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” bombastic slow build of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and gorgeously arranged “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

If you want to give it a spin — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department”  here .

Taylor Swift opening acts

Taylor only has two opening acts lined up for the ‘Eras Tour’ this year.

Here’s what you need to know about her well-established special guests.

Paramore  will play alongside Swift after mounting a massive 2023 tour of their own. The group, fronted by lead singer Hayley Williams, reunited in 2022 after a five-year hiatus. For fans that want to check out their latest, you can listen to “This Is Why,” their sixth studio album, which dropped in February 2023.

Gracie Abrams , the daughter of film director JJ Abrams and producer Katie McGrath, is a star in her own right. Her song “I miss you, I’m sorry” has upwards of 100 million streams on Spotify, she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the 2022 “Sour Tour” and headlined her own tour last spring as well.

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg (sometimes more!) to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Chappell Roan

•  Alanis Morissette

Who else is on the road this year? Check out our list of the  50 biggest concert tours in 2024  to find out.
