Flying Business Class is purely aspirational for most, a lifetime experience for some, and a must for a select few. I previously published a top 10 list of the world’s best airlines for longhaul Business Class . Besides  gourmet food , a flatbed, more attentive service, and access to an airport lounge , Business Class passengers will also receive an upgraded amenity kit as compared to travelers in Economy (‘cattle’) Class. Here’s my selection of the 10 best Business Class amenity kits in the skies. Some of these kits are real collector items, and you’ll want to take them home after your flight!

10. KLM ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINE

KLM Royal Dutch Airline’s Business Class amenity kits have been created by Jan Taminiau, one the most successful fashion designers from the Netherlands. There are six unique comfort bags in 12 different colors, and a new design is added every year. These comfort bags, which come in the shape of a clutch bag and a wallet, are designed to be used during the flight and afterwards, as you may keep them as a small handbag or pass them on as a gift to a loved one or a friend. The contents of the bags are basic and include regular essentials for longhaul travel, like eye mask, ear plugs, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, and skin care products (Rituals lip balm & face moisturizer). As well as an amenity bag, Business Class passengers also receive one of KLM’s collectible Delft Blue Houses, which are filled with Dutch gin, also known as jenever.

9. ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS

One of Japan’s two major airlines, All Nippon Airways (ANA) is known for its refined in-flight service, and its Business Class amenity kits are just another reason why. Passengers receive an amenity pouch by Globe-Trotter, a British luxury brand with over 120 years of history. ANA partnered for the creation of the kits’ content with the renowned L’OCCITANE brand, a leading manufacturer and retailer of premium products originating from the Provence in southern France (with a focus on wellness and natural beauty). The ANA Business Class amenity kit contains several products from L’OCCITANE including L’OCCITANE Fabulous Serum and L’OCCITANE Ultra-Rich Lip Balm Stick, in addition to a toothbrush and toothpaste, eye mask, earplugs, tissues and cotton pads.

Finnair’s longstanding partnership with Finnish design house Marimekko is reflected in its Business Class amenity kits, which feature Maija Isola’s iconic designs from the 1960s. The four designs – Rautasänky, Joonas, Jenkka, and Pieni melooni – are available two at a time and are changed every six months. The colors complement the new blue-on-blue sleep textiles with Isola’s Kaivo pattern. Each amenity kit includes almond-coconut lip cream and a chamomile-lavender facial hydrator from L:A Bruket, an eye mask with soft-touch fabric, ear plugs, and a toothbrush. Sustainability is an important part of the amenity kit renewal: the toothbrush is made from bio-plastic containing cornstarch, plastic wrappings for the earplugs have been replaced with wax paper, and each amenity kit comes wrapped in a cardboard band instead of plastic.

7. SINGAPORE AIRLINES

Singapore Airlines is known for having one of the world’s best Business Class products, but historically the airline didn’t offer amenity kits. Instead, Singapore Airlines chose to stock its lavatories with essentials such as combs and dental kits. In 2020 that all changed when the carrier introduced Business Class amenity kits ‘on request’ (but it’s a request worth making). The Business Class kit was developed in collaboration with Penhaligon, a brand which enjoys a robust reputation as one of England’s most iconic perfumeries. The amenity kit comes as a green folio-style bag featuring a signature perfume bottle stopper shaped zip pull. Inside the kit are a trio of unisex products – hand lotion, lip balm and a facial mist spray – from Penhaligon’s oaky-green Quercus range, which leads with citrus and basil underpinned by notes of jasmine, cardamom, lily and amber.

6. CHINA AIRLINES

China Airlines – the oldest airline in Taiwan – is collaborating with The North Face outdoor brand to inject the elements of youth, sports and fashion into its elegant Business Class cabins. The multi-function travel pouch incorporates flying elements such as a zipper key ring with ribbons and a carry loop for convenient stowage. The kit is loaded with great content. The Norwegian skin care brand “ SPREKENHUS ” was chosen to supply passengers with environmentally sustainable and high-performance products including hand cream, lip balm, and hand sanitizer. Other supplies include an oral hygiene kit, eye mask, ear plugs, and compact folding hairbrush. Eco-friendly materials were given precedence in everything from the packaging to the contents to encourage travelers to join in protecting the environment.

In celebration of its Centenary year in 2000, Qantas released a line of bags inspired by inflight designs from the 1960s to the present day. For example, one bag is influenced by the black pilot uniforms of the 1960s, featuring a debossed logo in gold which depicts the wings of the time. Each bag is the airline’s most sustainable to date and contains a a dental kit featuring a bamboo toothbrush and White Glo toothpaste packaged in a recycled sleeve, terry cotton and jersey eyeshade, socks made from 30% bamboo with a polyester blend, earplugs packaged in recycled paper, and Australian botanical wellness set including Li-Tya lip balm, face cream and hand cream packaged in recycled craft paper. Great photos of the kits . Thanks

Sorry, but I disagree. Putting Emirates as number one is just pathetic. They have a very inconsistent product and only offered kits on their overnight flights. You should at least put Delta on it, with TUMI cases their kit makes for a nice travel companion.

Glad to see BAs pathetic offerings weren’t here. The BA amenities bag, even for an overnight flight go straight into the bin. World class airline – not in my books

Etihad Aqua di Parma is the best 🙂

I also vote for Delta as their Tumi brand kits are very chic to carry after the flight.

Very interesting and helpful information ! Awesome thanks dear The Great Expert !

My experience of Emirates, when taking my wife on a luxury holiday from the UK to Malaysia and back, was ruined for ever when they had no food on board for me in Business Class for any of my return flights. They then managed to add insult to injury by respondent my complaint and advising me that I should have taken my own food with me as they only try to provide food but don’t promise this.

For a full homeward journey of over 17 hours and having no food is hard going. Needless to say I don’t intend to fly with Emirates ever again. I am sure that my money will spend quite as easily with other competitor airlines who may value my patronage more than Emirates did.

I have lots of different business kits over the past couple of years Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airlines etc. They all seem the same, but what always stands out was the “Lip Balm” on Turkish Airlines, non greasy cream in a perfect applicator.

Eva airlines no longer gives ferregamo cases. They give Kipling and furla kits.

With flights from nine cities across the U.S., Turkish Airlines makes a trip to Istanbul a cinch. Turkish Airlines’ business class is renowned for comfortable seats, fine food and other onboard comforts. Using miles or points, a vacation with a Turkish Airlines business class flight may be closer than you think.

Based on our most recent analysis, NerdWallet values Turkish Airlines miles at 1.1 cents each.

Turkish Airlines has just two classes of service: economy and business. So you get the premium experience in business class. From posh lounges to free baggage, lie-flat seats and world-class service, Turkish airlines is sure to make a lasting impression.

This Turkish Airlines business class article lays out what you can expect, from the moment you arrive at the airport to the moment you land.

What to expect flying Business Class with Turkish Airlines

Many of the things you have to pay for when you fly economy class are free when you fly in business class. Extra bags, gourmet meals, tons of legroom — they’re all included in the business class experience.

Baggage allowance

Tempted to pack that third or fourth pair of shoes for a fancy night out? Feel free to overpack. Turkish Airlines business class passengers can check two pieces of luggage weighing up to about 70 pounds (32 kilograms) each for free, plus bring two pieces of cabin baggage.

Priority boarding

Don’t worry about fighting for overhead bin space. In business class, you’re among the first to board the plane, so you’ll have plenty of time to get settled in.

Lie-flat seats

What better way to travel than flying across the Atlantic Ocean in a seat that turns into a bed? No matter which plane you’re on, you’ll have a lie-flat experience in the airliner's business class. There are individual power ports to charge devices, noise-canceling headphones and even massages are available on certain aircraft.

Some of Turkish Airlines’ newer planes, like the 787 Dreamliner, offer aisle access from every seat.

If you’re flying on a Turkish Airlines Boeing 777, the business class cabin is laid out in a 2-3-2 configuration, meaning that there are two seats on the left, two on the right and three in the middle. Don’t get stuck with that dreaded middle seat, as you’ll have to climb over the person next to you to get to the aisle.

Turkish Airlines recently opened a new lounge in the Istanbul Airport that is a sight to be seen. As a business class passenger, you’ll have free access to this sanctuary before you fly.

There, you’ll enjoy free Wi-Fi, a massive children’s play area, free food including Turkish cuisine and private suites to relax. You can freshen up in one of the shower suites or explore the 1,400-square-foot museum, created in collaboration with Istanbul Modern, right inside the lounge.

Personal chef

Another perk of Turkish Airlines’ business class experience: a flying chef. On transatlantic flights, you’ll be greeted with a welcome drink, which is soon followed by an expansive selection of hors d’oeuvres and soups. Your meal is served on porcelain tableware and prepared according to your specifications. It’s all finished with Turkish coffee and Turkish delight.

How to book a business class ticket with Turkish Airlines

The best miles and points for a business class seat on Turkish Airlines are its own currency: Miles&Smiles miles. But unless you fly on Turkish Airlines often, there aren’t many ways to earn them.

Citi ThankYou points (1:1) or Capital One miles (1:1) could be the solution as you can transfer those points to your Miles&Smiles account.

Business class tickets from the U.S. to Europe start at 45,000 miles plus taxes and fees. If you’re looking to go farther (to Asia or Africa, for example), the miles you need will vary based on your destination.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

If you don’t have a credit card that pays Citi ThankYou points or Capital One miles but you have a Chase Ultimate Rewards® account, you could transfer points to United Airlines MileagePlus , then book a business class flight on Turkish Airlines through United’s website. Your Ultimate Rewards® points transfer to United miles at a 1:1 ratio.

A business class flight on Turkish Airlines costs more in United miles than it does in the airline’s own currency, but you’ll be able to search on the United website easily to see available flights.

How to make your ticket a better value

First, book directly with Turkish Airlines if you can. Typically, you’ll find the same flight for fewer miles. In the above example, you can see that the Turkish Airlines flight costing 45,000 Miles&Smiles miles is 77,000 United MileagePlus miles.

Second, flying Turkish business class to Middle East destinations costs only slightly more miles than flying to Turkey: just 2,000 miles more — 47,000 total — on a recent search for a New York-to-Dubai business class flight on Turkish Airlines.

Finally, make sure to check out the Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles Special Offers page, where you’ll find occasional discounts on flights between regions, meaning that you can fly in business class for even less.

Best cards for earning Turkish Airlines miles

A number of transferrable points currencies programs partner with Turkish Airlines, including Citi ThankYou and Capital One Miles , both of which offer a 1:1 transfer ratio.

Note that you might be required to hold a certain credit card to be eligible for transfers, so read the fine print. If you need to earn a bunch of Miles&Smiles miles quickly, though, consider applying for one of these cards:

Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

If you're thinking of flying Turkish Airlines business class

Turkish Airlines offers fantastic lie-flat business class seats on all transatlantic flights and allows you the ability to connect to Europe, Africa and beyond. On the ground, you’ll find amazing new lounges with local delicacies, while in the air you’ll have a personal chef whipping up meals at 35,000 feet.

Miles&Smiles miles, which can be hard to come by, are easier to get if you have a credit card that pays Citi ThankYou points or Capital One miles, which transfer into Turkish Airlines miles. With the welcome bonus on the right credit card, you might earn enough miles for a business class flight on Turkish in just the first few months after opening the card.

Review: Turkish Airlines A350 “Turkoflot” Business Class

an airplane on the tarmac

The Airbus A350-900 remains my favorite aircraft in the Turkish Airlines fleet and I quite enjoyed flying the ex-Aeroflot (so-called “Turkoflot”) configuration of the aircraft on a longhaul flight in business class. This review covers my journey from Los Angeles to Istanbul.

In This Post:

Turkish Airlines A350 “Turkoflot” Business Class Review

Turkish Airlines snapped up six A350-900s in 2022 that were intended to go to Aeroflot Russian Airlines, but suddenly became available when Western sanctions against Russia after it invaded Ukraine prohibited such delivery.

This A350 subfleet features a very different business class suite than the “original” Turkish A350s, which I reviewed a couple of years ago and you can read here .

I went through quite a lot of drama to secure this ticket , but in the end, I flew from Los Angeles to Istanbul using my Turkish Miles & Smiles miles. The current price for such a one-way journey in business class is 65,000 miles. You can transfer into Turkish Miles & Smiles from Capital One and Citi.

The Turkish Airlines ground staff is quite nice at LAX and after helping me resolve the ticketing issue (and seating issue), checked me in and directed me toward the lounge.

We were delayed (as often seems to be the case on Turkish Airlines) and did not start boarding until our takeoff time approached.

a plane at an airport

Turkish Airlines 10 Los Angeles (LAX) – Istanbul (IST) Tuesday, January 23 Depart: 06:40 PM Arrive: 6:45 PM+1 Duration: 13hr, 05min Distance: 6,851 miles Aircraft: Airbus A350-900 version 2 Seat: 2K (Business Class)

Onboard, flight attendants were still preparing the cabin for the flight (it had arrived late from Istanbul) and appeared startled that boarding had begun.

a man in an airplane with a camera

The business class cabin includes 28 seats, arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. Seats are staggered in each row and the entire business class cabin is positioned between the first and second aircraft door.

These suites feature the Collins Aerospace Horizon product, which was debuted by Aeroflot and is now only used by Aeroflot and Turkish. All seats have direct aisle access and privacy doors, a personal wardrobe (barely big enough for a single garment), a vanity, and a storage cabinet. Each seat converts into a fully flat bed, 6 feet, 6 inches long. All seats also have a universal AC and USB-A socket.

a person standing in a room with rows of seats

Each seat has a fancy lamp that casts a nice light over the cabin when the other lights are turned off.

a light fixture on a wall

From what I have been told, the seats are prone to break and fixing them is difficult, with parts more readily available. I found out onboard that my seat, 2K, was broken: the buttons to adjust the seat position did not function so I remained in the upright position until it was time to sleep, at which point a flight attendant manually placed the seat into a lie-flat position.

a close up of a device

I’m not a huge fan of the doors and found the seat somewhat uncomfortable in the upright position (more padding would have helped), but I slept for nine hours on this flight…you cannot ask for much of a better rest. It was refreshing just to sleep after days of drama surrounding this ticket. Bedding includes a set topper, duvet, and pillow.

a room with cubicles and a television on it

I loved the mood lighting in the cabin, which gave the cabin a modern but soothing glow.

a room with a television and cabinets

In short, a beautiful cabin and comfortable bed, but I prefer the B/E Super Diamond and even United’s Polaris seat in the upright position.

Food + Drink

You can expect a feast onboard Turkish Airlines when you travel on a longhaul flight in business class, even from an outstation. Knowing what a feast awaited, I did not eat in the lounge…and that proved to be a very wise choice.

Pre-departure beverages set the tone with a choice between freshly-squeezed orange juice, raspberry lemonade, or mint lemonade (or all three):

a tray of drinks on a table

After settling in, a chef (well, a flight attendant dressed up in a chef outfit) offered me a menu. He later returned after takeoff to record my preferred main course choice).

a black menu on a table

Dinner began with a hot towel followed by mixed nuts. I chose a rosé wine (a Turkish Kavaklidere Egeo 2022) to pair with my appetizer and fish. The nut mix included pistachios, cashews, almonds, and hazelnuts and was served warm.

a white towel on a plate

This was followed by an elaborate appetizer cart, featuring soup, salad, and several warm and cold appetizers, including:

  • Mediterranean prawns
  • smoked trout and horseradish cream
  • wild salmon tartare
  • beef brochette
  • avocado and tomato salad
  • spiced chicken breast
  • deep-fried eggplant and green pepper with tomato sauce
  • romaine salad

I tried a little of everything as well as a bowl of creamy cauliflower soup. Not only was every bit delicious but it was beautifully plated as well.

a table with a glass of liquid and a plate of food

For the main course, I chose salmon over steak…I just don’t put a lot of faith on red meat on an airplane any longer. The third choice was ravioli. My salmon was served with mashed potatoes, zucchini, and cherry tomatoes…and quite delicious.

a tv on a table in a plane

But the feast was not over. The cart returned for dessert, with decadent baklava and apple streusel with ice cream, plus cheese and fruit and raspberry chocolate cake. I was encouraged to try everything…

a plate of food on a table

Not only was the quality beautiful, but the taste was as well.

Mid-Flight Snack

Turkish has offered the same midflight snack in all cabins for as long as I can remember…a mozzarella sandwich and white chocolate cake. I slept through it, but I did take note that self-serve alcohol was available in the galley behind the business class cabin.

a kitchen inside a plane

Breakfast was served before landing, starting with a fruit plate and side dishes including cheese, yogurt, cold cuts (chicken breast and turkey), and a choice of breads. I had not one main course, but two: a zucchini and red pepper omelet (served with smoked turkey and cheese toast) followed by sweet curd crepes with berry compote. The crepes were SO sweet…but were quite enjoyable.

a hand holding a white towel

With my meal, I had a cappuccino, Turkish coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a strawberry and banana smoothie.

IFE + Wi-Fi

A full IFE library was available, including a wide variety of Turkish and international movies, TV shows, live TV, music, games, and Islamic material.

a screen shot of a building

Wi-Fi is complimentary for business class. All you need is your seat number and surname to activate the free wi-fi, which worked reasonably well throughout the flight.

a screenshot of a login

But the best IFE, as far as I am concerned, was the tail camera on the aircraft and the beautiful scenery outside the window. I greatly enjoyed watching our progress both on screen and outside the window.

Unlike the 787-9 I flew from Istanbul to Atlanta where the flight attendants locked the dimmable windows in the darkest position, the A350-900 gives you full control of the window shades (and the ex-Aeroflot version has nifty shades like British Airways or Lufthansa First Class). I appreciated having full control over my window.

Noise-cancelling headphones from Denon were distributed, which I still used to cancel out noise and listen to Andrea Bocceli. Annoyingly, the headphones were collected about an hour before landing, though at least disposable ones were distributed.

Amenity Kits + Slippers

A Ferragamo-branded amenity kit included (faux blue leather bag):

  • facial mist
  • body lotion

a black leather pouch on a wood surface

Slippers were also offered:

a bag and plastic bag in a crate

Business class lavatories are located in the front and back of the cabin, with black faux-marble countertops and faux-wood floors. There’s also fragrance, hand soap, and hand creme from Molton Brown.

a bathroom with a sink and toilet

Overall, service was good, though perhaps not great.

Oddly, flight attendants made the beds directly after takeoff…before the meal service even began. It is not clear to me why Turkish conducts its turn-down service before passengers are ready for bed, but I suppose it promotes efficiency?

My bowl of nuts was never collected and just sat on my side table throughout the meal service…

a black bowl on a table

Furthermore, I was never offered water or another beverage with my meal.

But the crew was pleasant…I give them credit for that.

I quite liked the “Turkoflot” A350 business class cabin, though I do think I prefer the “regular” cabin better. The food is really delicious on Turkish Airlines…that’s a huge benefit…and the flight from the West Coast to Istanbul is more than long enough for a very good rest.

I’ve reviewed Turkish flight 10 from LAX-IST several times over the years and it remains one of my favorite ways to get to Europe and beyond.

Correction, TK have 4 of these A350’s, not 6 AI have the other 2

' src=

Incorrect. TK had 6 and 2 were converted into TK interiors and the remaining 4 will stay with Aeroflot interiors for the time being.

' src=

Is this info published somwhere?

I like TK, but I don’t love TK. These seats look nice, but the fact they break so often is a real issue. Also, the fleet inconsistency is frustrating. I also think the lounges in IST are just OK. Nowhere near as good as people seem to think.

Still, at 65K miles, that’s a darn good way to get to Turkey from the West Coast.

' src=

That was quite the unkempt look you modeled in the lavatory mirror, lol. Almost like “Don’t mess with me, I just got up”!

LOL, that was before I went to sleep! 😉

' src=

Compote is fruit cooked in simple syrup. Usually is not eaten alone. Add Greek yogurt to taste. The sour in the yogurt balances the sweetness level.

But it was so delicious with the white vanilla sauce under the crepes that looked quite like something else…

' src=

Have these been permanently added to the fleet? Or are they just on temporary lease? I bet once Putin is overthrown and thrown off the roof of the former Park Hyatt that Aeroflot would love to finally get them delivered.

Permanent, I believe.

' src=

How do you approach fruit from a keto perspective? (I know you pause the diet on a plane).

I’m really not so strict. I eat berries and apples every day at home. More green vegetables than fruit, but I blend it all together and get my greens that way. I also like berries and pecans in my yogurt.

' src=

Was the lack of armrests make the set uncomfortable when in upright mode?

Didn’t bother me too much.

' src=

any compensation for your broken seat? you should get something for a major failure.

I flew IST MNL on an A359 in February 2023. I now wonder if it was a Turkoflot? Anyhow, it was a good experience!

Did the seat look like the seats above or more like this:

They serve you a lot of food, but in my mind TK is very overrated. And while the onboard service might be decent there are often other major service issues (such as your ticketing saga). Finally, IST is way too big and a pain to connect at especially since TK is often late. I do my best to avoid.

' src=

TK service is wildly overrated. I was shocked to read so many articles praising their service before. This article seems to be more representative of the reality.

The FAs are generally polite and do their job, but hardly anything incredible or polished to the extent like SQ or even Japanese carriers.

' src=

Yes – very. This is the least comfortable of the TK seats. No arms rests and narrow. Although it’s a very private product, it is – frankly – very claustrophobic. The aisles are so narrow that you wonder what an evacuation would be like. I see the novelty value of this fleet, but I wouldn’t want to fly it again.

' src=

Looks like a pleasant flight, good amenities and excellent food….the seats look great too, I would book based on this review despite the age and wear on the aircraft.

' src=

Honestly, overrated airline. I flew them last year from Doha to Washington via Istanbul in Business and the overall experience was okay but not great. I was on the 787 – their new business class product – and it was tight and uncomfortable. Service was slow and uncoordinated – so much so that they almost couldnt complete the main meal service before landing in Washington. Literally an hour between the first pass of the appetizer cart and the last, and I barely had time for my main meal. It was just sloppy and poor. Not impressive. Then the issues I’ve had with ticketing. I had purchased my ticket using Turkish Smiles miles or whatever when it was still like 47K one way from Doha to washington – not a bad price!! For business!! But then there was a schedule change or something and they rebooked me in economy, inexplicably, for Istanbul-Washington. No. So I called their 1800 number and their people on the phone were incapable of doing anything. They made me fill out some online form that was never responded to after a few months. finally somebody told me to get in touch with their Washington, DC sales office, who fixed it, but it was lots of uncertainty and nobody willing/able/ empowered to fix the problem. Recently I had to refund another award ticket and again – nobody empowered to do so on the phone, a baffling/ incomprehensible email asking me to send in my credit card and picture of my passport to provide “feedback”, and then yet another run in with the Washington sales office, who is making me receive my refund via a wire transfer rather than directly to my credit card for god knows why. Honestly, a frustrating experience on every level. Not a well run airline. Service that just isnt quite what has been talked about breathlessly. NO thanks.

Turkish Airlines Business Class lounge options at Istanbul Ataturk Airport

At Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Turkish Airlines operates the Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge aka “ July 15 Heroes of Democracy Lounge” for their premium cabin and Star Alliance elite passengers. The Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge is open 24 hours a day and offers two levels of food, drinks and amenities. But as the only Star Alliance lounge at IST, the Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge can get busy and chaotic at peak times. Here are some pictures of the massive space and you can click here to read my full review of the Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge.

Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge Istanbul

About 30 minutes prior to boarding time, we left the Turkish Airlines CIP Lounge and made our way to gate 226 where our bird was waiting. I don’t normally leave the lounge this early but at Istanbul, all flights departing for the United States undergo an additional security check at the gates. As we got to the gate, there was a line a mile long of people waiting to go through the security check. If you are traveling in Business Class, just walk to the front, find the dedicated lane for Business Class passengers and bypass the chaos. The security check consisted of additional security questions and a physical inspection of your luggage and clothing.

Philippine Airlines Announces Seattle Start Date

The security check took approximately 15 minutes to complete. We took some pictures of the bird and hung out until boarding was called. Boarding started with Business Class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members, followed by everyone else. Business Class passengers boarded through door 1L and Economy Class passengers boarded through 2L.

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300ER parked at Istanbul Ataturk Airport

Turkish Airlines Business Class review

Flight: TK9 Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER (77W) Istanbul (IST) to Los Angeles (LAX) Depart: 1:55 PM (2:21 PM actual) Arrive: 4:45 PM same day (4:30 PM actual) Duration: 13hrs 9mns Seats: 6J Business Class

On this flight, I was seated in 6J, an aisle seat on the right side of the plane and Andrew was seated in 6K, the window seat next to me. Our seats were in the aft Business Class cabin. On these re-configured Boeing 777-300ERs, Turkish Airlines has removed their Premium Economy Class product and updated their Business Class with a minor cabin refresh. The seats have been improved slightly for better storage and increased privacy but everything else remains the same.

Turkish Airlines Business Class is configured with 49 seats in a 2 x 3 x 2 layout. The forward Business Class cabin has 4 rows of seats and the aft Business Class cabin has 3 rows of seats. Directly behind the aft Business Class cabin is now an Economy Class cabin where Comfort Class used to be.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

Turkish Airlines Business Class utilizes standard, forward-facing, Zodiac Aura 2015 lie-flat seats. These seats lack privacy and do not provide direct-aisle access for all passengers. Compared to other airlines, these seats are most similar to the Business Class seats found on Ethiopian, Hainan and LOT Polish Airlines as well as the new Business Class seats installed on Emirates’ Boeing 777-300ERs . They are not as private or spacious as reverse herringbone seats found on airlines such as Cathay Pacific, EVA Air , American Airlines, etc. but they are much more spacious than the Thompson Vantage seats found on airlines such as SWISS , Austrian, Brussels Air., and others.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

According to SeatGuru, these seats provide 22 inches of width and 78 inches of pitch. They are soft and comfortable and the individual parts of the seat can be controlled for maximum comfort. There is a manual privacy divider between the seats but aisle seat passengers are virtually exposed to all the surrounding passengers. Each seat is equipped with a personal, in-flight entertainment system, USB port, universal electrical outlet and two personal reading lamps. Seat controls are located in the center armrest.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

WiFi was provided free of charge for Business Class passengers. For Economy Class passengers, an hour of in-flight internet cost $10 and a 24-hour pass cost $15. That being said, I don’t recommend you pay for this WiFi as it was VERY SLOW. I couldn’t do any work and social media pages took forever to load. I didn’t mind too much because it was free but I would have been pissed if I paid $15 for it.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

Storage-wise, your carry-on luggage can be stored in the overhead bins above and your personal items can be stored in the storage compartment underneath the ottoman. The flip-top ottoman is large and deep enough to store a regular size backpack, purse or laptop case. Your electronics and other small items can be stored in the single storage bin at your seat. The bin is large enough to hold a laptop, headphones, cell phone, eyeglasses and other items.

Turkish Airlines Business Class overhead storage

The ottoman serves as storage space for your personal items and as an extension of your seat in bed mode. The ottoman is not intended to accommodate another passenger and the tray table is not large enough for two people to dine together. The tray table folds out from the center console and can be pushed out of the way to provide easy access to your seat when the tray table is out.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

The in-flight entertainment system was fairly intuitive and easy to use but I found it to be rather glitchy and unresponsive during flight. The entertainment system included a good selection of movies, TV shows, live TV shows (news and sports), video games, audio entertainment and a flight show with two different aircraft cameras views.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

Waiting at our seats were a pair of slippers, a day blanket and an incredible lumbar support pillow. The lumbar support pillow was made out of memory foam. It was firm, comfortable and provided the perfect amount of support for your back.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

As we settled into our seats, the flight attendant working our section came by to introduce herself. She welcomed us on-board and served us with a pre-departure beverage while the other flight attendants came by with amenity kits and Denon noise-canceling headphones. The Denon headphones were similar to Bose Quiet Comfort (QC) 25s but I actually preferred these over the Bose headphones. They were soft, comfortable and worked well to drown out the cabin and engine noise. I had my Bose QC 25s with me but ended up using these the entire flight because I loved them so much.

Turkish Airlines Business Class pre-departure beverage

Turkish Airlines now partners with Jaguar for their Business Class amenity kits. The top-zip, vinyl cases are simple and can be re-purposed as iPad cases but the Jaguar partnership seems awkward and disconnected. I don’t understand what Jaguar cars have to do with health and beauty products, in-flight experiences or even with Turkey for that matter? I think Turkish Airlines missed the mark here as their Jaguar amenity kits are unremarkable and do nothing to remind me of my Turkish Airlines Business Class experience. They really should have gone with a traditional health and beauty brand or even a brand that was uniquely Turkish to highlight and celebrate their culture.

Inside the amenity kit, you’ll find eyeshades, earplugs, socks, a dental hygiene kit, shoehorn, pen, comb/brush and Jaguar branded bottles of lotion and lip balm.

Turkish Airlines Business Class amenity kit

Does this remind anyone of that “Sex Panther” scene from Ron Burgandy?

Turkish Airlines Business Class amenity kit

There are 3 lavatories for Business Class passengers. The lavatories are standard size but are complemented with Molton Brown hand soap and lotion for use during flight. Molton Brown amenity products would have been a HUGE upgrade over the Jaguar branded stuff. Seriously, I don’t know what they were thinking with that Jaguar partnership.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

On this trip, all but 2 seats were occupied and there were 3 flight attendants and one onboard chef working our section. Once we were airborne and the seatbelt signs were turned off, the flight attendants came around to prepare for our meal service. Warm towels and menus were distributed and the flight attendants took our pre-meal, drink orders.

Turkish Airlines Business Class menu

The onboard chef then took our meal orders while the flight attendants came by with ramekins of mixed nuts and our pre-meal beverages. I don’t know why but I really loved having a chef on-board. I’m not sure if she did anything more than what the flight attendants would have done but I thought the idea was novel and I appreciated it.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

Our tables were then set with linen, condiments and a small tea light to simulate a candle-lit meal.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

One of the aspects that sets Turkish Airlines Business Class apart from their competitors is their catering and food presentation. Unlike other airlines, Turkish Airlines serves a true, 4-course meal and treats their meal services as a presentation of their hospitality. For our appetizer course, instead of just giving us an appetizer dish, or even the option between two appetizer dishes; Turkish Airlines gave us the entire appetizer cart to choose from.

They literally rolled a cart down the aisle with trays upon trays of food for us to choose from. All we had to do was point and tell them what we wanted. I love this trolley concept so much as things don’t always look the way they are described in menus. This way, we could see all the options available and order whatever we wanted and however much we wanted. Everything looked delicious and I got a little bit of each dish to try out. Andrew did the same.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

This was followed by the soup course. The “traditional Turkish creamy wedding soup” was delicious and full of wonderful flavors.

Turkish Airlines Business Class soup

Our main courses were then brought out by the chef. I ordered the grilled swordfish and Andrew ordered the traditional yogurt kebab.

Turkish Airlines Business Class main course

After our plates were taken away, the flight attendants came by with a fruit and dessert cart; followed by a coffee and tea service. Just like the appetizer course, all the desserts were brought out on a trolley so we could see (and order) anything and everything we wanted. I might have gone a little overboard with the dessert trolley. . .

Turkish Airlines Business Class dessert

After dessert, I ordered a Turkish tea to cap off the meal. My tea was served in a cast iron teapot and served on a tray with a beautiful teacup. Talk about a proper tea service!

Turkish Airlines Business Class tea service

If you guys couldn’t tell, the Do&Co catering was my favorite part of this flight. The portions were appropriate; the flavors were wonderful and the dishes were authentically Turkish. The entire dining experience was delicious, beautifully presented on individual plates and would rival any Turkish restaurant on the ground. I loved that the items were served on a trolley so we could see everything and the fat kid inside of me loved that we could order as much as we wanted.

After our meal service was concluded, the flight attendants came by with bottles of water and asked if we wanted our beds to be made. Turn-down service included a mattress pad, full-size pillow and duvet. With the addition of the mattress pad and ottoman extension, the bed was long, comfortable and spacious. If you want to watch TV in bed, there are separate controls by your head to tilt and raise the upper portion of the headrest without moving the rest of the seat. These seats go completely lie-flat, parallel to the ground.

Turkish Airlines Business Class turn-down service

Once all the beds were made, the cabin lights were dimmed and all the window shades were closed. I watched a movie for a bit and fell asleep shortly thereafter; getting about 4 hours of great sleep. Small sandwiches, snacks and drinks were provided in the galley for those who were still hungry or thirsty.

Turkish Airlines Business Class

About 2.5 hours before our arrival into Los Angeles, the cabin lights were turned on and our pre-arrival meal was served. Not as grand as our main meal service, all the items were served on one single tray along with a beverage service. I don’t remember but I don’t think we had an option for our pre-arrival meal. I think everyone got the same meal.

Turkish Airlines Business Class pre-arrival meal

Service-wise, the flight attendants were great during our meal services. They were friendly and attentive but were fairly absent in between meals. During our flight, they did walk the cabin a few times but they were not proactive in taking care of the passengers. If you needed anything, you needed to ring your call bell, see them in the galley or flag one of them down as they walked by. About 30 minutes prior to landing, our Denon headphones were collected and generic headphones were handed out in their place; allowing us to finish watching our movies.

Turkish Airlines Boeing 777 parked at LAX

Turkish Airlines Business Class bottom line

Overall, I had another great experience flying Turkish Airlines Business Class. It wasn’t the best experience by any means but it was still a positive experience nonetheless. I know these seats aren’t the best. They lack privacy and direct-aisle access for all passengers but I much prefer these seats over the Thompson Vantage seats found on other European airlines. These seats are more spacious, less restrictive and have better storage spaces than the Thompson Vantage seats. The service was friendly during our meal services but could have been more attentive during the rest of the flight.

But despite those negatives, I still think Turkish Airlines has some advantages over their European counterparts. Their Do&Co 4-course catering is hands down the best Business Class meal you will ever have on an airplane and the other in-flight amenities such as Denon headphones; lumbar support pillow and turn-down service are unmatched by any other European carrier.

10 Best Amenity Kits in Business Class

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Just a few years ago, the amenity kit was a basic offering. If they were fortunate, Business Class passengers would be given a plastic toothbrush, a tiny tube of toothpaste, a one-use eye mask, a plastic comb, and a pen. In the 80s & 90s, the sheer existence of amenity kits was a novelty – at best, passengers would find basic toiletries in a washroom basket.

Fast forward to the present day, and the amenity kit has outshone its humble beginnings, transforming into a coveted item that leading Business Class airlines vie to evolve and perfect. These designer kits are now collectable, luxurious resources, filled with branded high-end toiletries worthy of adorning the shelves of the many premium boutique stores.

Driven by the trend of upgrading food, drink, cabin interiors, and sleepwear, the once-meagre amenity kit counteracts the effects of long-haul travel, functioning as a comprehensive luxury wellness pack. Once a dull afterthought, the bag itself has become a fashion statement - a collectable item one is proud to carry home and re-purpose for use time and again.

Turkey Travel Blog_Buisness Class With Turkish Airlines - A First Timers Guide

Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Türkiye, headquartered at the Turkish Airlines General Management Building on the grounds of the new Istanbul Airport. It operates passenger services to 272 destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The airline serves more destinations with non-stop flights from a single airport than any other airline in Europe.

Turkish Airlines Awards 2022§

The company has won several awards and recognitions, including being named the “Best Airline in Europe” by  Skytrax many times, including in 2022. It was also awarded “Best Airline Worldwide” several times, as well as “Best Transatlantic Airline” in 2021.

The airline was once again awarded a 5-star global, and after flying with them several times this past 12 months, I totally agree and see why Turkish Airlines has so many awards.

But when I got on the plane , I found that it was, in fact, so much more comfortable than “cattle class,” as we all loving refer to the cramped seats in economy. I arrived at my destination feeling refreshed and relaxed, and the trip started so much better without that jet laggy-tired feeling.

If you are flying business class for the first time with Turkish Airlines, here is a guide to show you what you can expect.

Food And Beverage Options With Turkish Airlines

A First Timer on a Turkish Airlines Business Class flight is holding a menu in an airplane.

Food and beverage options on Turkish Airlines business class are excellent, with a wide variety of both hot and cold dishes available. The airline also offers a good selection of wine and beer, as well as spirits and liqueurs. All meals are served with complimentary bread, butter, and water.

As soon as you board your business class flight , you will be offered a welcome drink. One thing to note is that, unlike other airlines, the welcome beverage on Turkish flights is non-alcoholic, and instead, you’ll be offered strawberry juice, orange juice, lemonade, or water.

Food & Drinks in business class - Turkish Airlines- welcome drink

But do not worry; as soon as you’ve reached the cruise phase of the flight, you’ll be offered anything you like from the menu -including champagne and other alcoholic beverages.

Once you are cruising, you can freshen up with the hot towels that the flight crew will hand out, as well as slip into your travel socks and slippers provided as a part of your in-flight amenities kit (you’ll need to pack your own pj’s, as Turkish Airlines do not provide these).

The food offered by Turkish Airlines is, without question, quality and abundant. All meals are presented with linens, porcelain tableware, and silverware.

Food & Drinks in business class - Turkish Airlines - menu

The business class crew will bring you a tray of items to nibble on, such as cheeses and olives, and then bring you the salads and hot meal. Some of the meal options I’ve been served include Turkish cuisine options such as meatballs, karnıyarık (eggplants with minced meat), mantı (Turkish ravioli), and stuffed grape leaves, but the menu is ever-changing, so you’ll always have something new.

On transatlantic flights, three meals are served, as well as snacks if you need them. On night-time intercontinental flights, I was offered the choice of when I’d like to eat. So you can sleep as you wish and not be forced to eat at a set time.

All non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are complimentary for passengers and can be requested by using your call bell or politely raising your hand to the passing crew member.

Entertainment Options Tips With Turkish Airlines

When it comes to flying Turkish Airlines in business class, there are a few things that you should keep in mind in order to make the most of your experience. First and foremost, be sure to take advantage of the airline’s inflight entertainment options. With a variety of movies, TV shows, and music available, there is no question you will find something to keep you entertained during your flight.

You’ll be given a pair of excellent quality and comfortable noise-canceling headphones to use during your flight to enjoy the movies and TV shows without being distracted from what is happening around you.

In addition, the airline’s turndown service makes the trip even more comfortable. This service provides you with a comfortable duvet and pillow and a lie-flat bed so that you can get some rest as you wish. I always set my time to local time and try to sleep according to my destination’s schedule to avoid as much jet lag as possible.

Be sure to check the departure time listed on your boarding pass and listen to the lounge staff will also announce when it’s time for passengers to start making their way to their gates

Traveling With Kids On Turkish Airlines

Kids onTurkish Airlines business class - Vladimir

Assuming you are flying Turkish Airlines business class with your kids, you will not regret it.

  • Turkish Airlines offers bassinets for infants, which are placed in front of the bulkhead seats
  • For children ages 2 and up, there are special “Kids Kits” available upon request, which include coloring books, activity sheets, and toys
  • A dedicated kids’ entertainment system with age-appropriate content for kids, including movies, TV shows, and video games

Turkish Airlines takes rather good care of families traveling in business class; the only thing missing for kids in business class was a kids’ meal. That said, my kids enjoyed the Turkish meatballs; they just wasted all of the olives, cheese, and other more mature food options.

Booking Tips With Turkish Airlines Business Class

Turkish Airlines Business Class is one of the most popular airlines among business travelers. And for good reason – the airline offers an excellent product with comfortable seats, great service, and a wide range of destination options.

When booking your Turkish Airlines Business Class ticket, there are a few things to keep in mind to get the most out of your experience.

  • First , be sure to book early. The airline offers its business class seat inventory at reduced rates to economy passengers a  week before departure, so if you wait until the last minute, you may not get the seat you want
  • Second , choose your seat carefully. The window seats offer the most privacy, but the aisle seats are more convenient for getting up to stretch your legs. I always use SeatGuru to look up my exact plane and see which seats are best – and which ones to avoid before I select my seats
  • Third , take advantage of the airline’s generous baggage allowance. Each passenger is allowed two checked bags and two carry-ons, so pack everything you need for your trip and shop, shop, shop while you are on vacation.

Baggage Allowance

You’ll be able to bring two pieces of carry-on baggage with you. Each piece of baggage can weigh up to 8 kg (17 lbs) and have dimensions of up to 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm. If you need to bring more than two pieces of carry-on baggage, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance.

Equally, you can check in two bags in business class, though the weight varies depending on the destination. From 23 kg (50 lbs) up to 32 kg (70 lbs) per bag. You’ll need to look at that when you buy your ticket.

Miles & Smiles Loyalty Program

Miles&Smiles is the airline’s points program, and it is a great way to earn points while you travel. It is free to join the program, and you earn points for every mile (kilometer) you fly, as well as for every purchase you make at a participating program via the airline, such as rental cars .

You can then use these points to redeem free flights, upgrades, and other rewards as you collect points. The program is easy to use, and it has tools to calculate how many points you need for that free business class upgrade we all desire.

Expectations that were too high: A review of Turkish Airlines business class on the Boeing 777

Chris Dong

For aviation geeks like me, flying an airline for the first time is a thrill. Earlier this fall, I had an introduction to Turkey's flag carrier when I took Turkish Airlines from New York-JFK to Istanbul (IST).

Excited was an understatement for how I felt. I even built in a four-day stop in Istanbul en route to the Maldives, where I was headed to review the newly-opened Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands .

Before the flight, I knew three things about Turkish Airlines: it has one of the most extensive route networks in the world, a sprawling new hub airport and a reputation for fantastic onboard catering and meals by DO & CO, the highly regarded, Austria-based catering company.

With all this in mind, I had some high expectations for the airline's "soft product" (food, drinks, service and amenities). Could it compete with the likes of Qatar Airways business class , a TPG staff (and personal) favorite?

Here's how I thought Turkish Airlines business class measured up:

My flight was booked as a round-trip between New York-JFK and Malé (MLE), with a four-day stopover in Istanbul on the outbound leg. Unfortunately, there was no award availability on the dates that I needed, so TPG paid for this fare in cash.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

As a mixed cabin itinerary with business on the outbound and economy on the return, we paid $2,100. Had I been paying for my own flight, I would have used one of the best cards for booking flights to earn bonus points or miles on the fare.

The total fare with the multi-day stop in Istanbul was the same as one with a short connection. Keep in mind that Turkish Airlines has a generous stopover program and during non-pandemic times, you can even get a complimentary hotel .

I decided to credit my outbound business-class flights in "C" class of service to Turkish's own Miles & Smiles program , earning me 12,814 miles.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

If you're using miles, one of the best options is to book directly with Turkish's Miles & Smiles program . A one-way business-class flight from North America to Europe (including Turkey) is a fantastic 45,000 miles. This is one of the lowest non-promotional award redemptions to Turkey. You can transfer Citi ThankYou points or Capital One miles to Turkish at a 1:1 ratio, too.

Alternatively, you can book with other Star Alliance partners, which may be a better option if you have points with another currency such as Amex Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards. Here are some options:

  • Avianca LifeMiles (transferable from Amex, Capital One, Citi)
  • Singapore KrisFlyer (transferable from Amex, Capital One, Chase, Citi)
  • Air Canada Aeroplan (transferable from Amex, Capital One, Chase)
  • United MileagePlus (transferable from Chase)

Ground experience

Turkish Airlines operates out of Terminal 1 at JFK.

While the terminal houses a number of international carriers, T1 was fairly quiet late in the morning on a weekday. With fewer flights due to the pandemic and a lull in frequencies during this hour, I didn't have to contend with many people until standing at the gate area at boarding time.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Say what you want about the rest of Terminal 1, but first impressions matter – and the terminal does well in this regard (especially when there are only a handful of other passengers).

You immediately notice how much light the interior receives upon walking into the check-in area.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

There was only one person ahead of me in the business class check-in line. The agent was curt yet efficient. The agent inspected my proof of vaccination, gave me my boarding pass and sent me on my way to security in a matter of minutes.

Related: 5 things to know about entering Turkey as a U.S. resident

The hodgepodge of international carriers at this terminal – coupled with the lack of a dedicated TSA PreCheck line – means it often has clogged security lines. I experienced just that.

Even with only about 10 passengers ahead of me, security took way longer than it should have. Since I had PreCheck on my boarding pass, I didn't have to take off my shoes, but the process wasn't any faster on the standard line.

Next up, it was time to find the lounge. There's good and bad news here.

First, the bad news. For my 1 p.m flight, Turkish Airlines was not contracting with any airport lounge. That's pretty inexcusable considering there are several lounges open in the terminal at this hour.

Typically, Turkish business-class passengers and Star Alliance elites can use the Lufthansa lounge, but its hours of 12:30 p.m to 6 p.m. meant it was off-limits for those with early afternoon or late evening flights.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Thankfully, there's good news: Priority Pass came to my rescue. The Primeclass lounge was available – and located right next to where my Turkish flight was boarding.

Situated at the far end of Terminal 1 by Gates 8 and 9, the Primeclass Lounge opened in late 2019. It is open to Priority Pass customers along with business-class passengers of airlines such as Japan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and Saudia. While the lounge benefit did not include admittance for Turkish Airlines passengers, I was able to access it thanks to one of the several credit cards I carry that allows me to register for Priority Pass.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

The 5,000-square-foot space is on the basement level and is one of the nicer contracted lounges that I've visited.

Throughout my hour-long stay, the lounge remained quiet. The combination of plush, white seats, hardwood floors and marble touches made the space modern yet homey. During the lunch hour, there was a hot and cold buffet and a full bar with two complimentary drinks allotted per guest (additional drinks are chargeable).

turkish airlines business class travel kit

I had a seat by the window in the lounge, with a fantastic view of a Saudia Boeing 777 parked nearby. After a short while, it was time to head upstairs for boarding my flight to Istanbul.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

I arrived a few minutes before boarding was scheduled to begin, but the gate agents had not created any lines. Finally, about 20 minutes later, airline staff organized the crowd that had formed near the gate, creating separate queues for business and economy.

Unfortunately, due to how the lines formed, a few passengers got ahead of me, which meant I didn't get a chance to get photographs of the business cabin without other folks in it.

After preboarding of families and wheelchair passengers, business class and Star Alliance elites took their turn to step on board.

Cabin and seat

Turkish Airlines won't win any awards for the "hard product" – meaning the seat and physical features of the cabin – on its Boeing 777, which is not outfitted nearly as nicely as the airline's Boeing 787s and Airbus A350s with their newer, all-aisle access business-class product .

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Turkish operates two versions of the 777-300ER. Unfortunately, on my New York-JFK to Istanbul (IST) leg, I was on the older version, with a lower-resolution video screen and more dated finishes.

Both versions have a 49-seat business-class cabin arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration which means, yes, there are middle seats, even up front. Business class is split into two sections, with the front cabin containing 28 seats spread over four rows. The rear cabin has 21 seats spread over three rows.

Turkish took delivery of its first Boeing 777 in 2010, and this business-class formation has been around since then. The airline does not have any imminent plans to retrofit the aircraft with the business-class fixtures found on its newer aircraft.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Privacy in premium cabins is all the rage these days, with more and more carriers offering seclusion as a prime selling point.

However, Turkish isn't alone with this 2-3-2 setup. Airlines such as Emirates (on the Boeing 777-300ER) and Lufthansa (on the Boeing 747-400) still feature forward-facing business-class seats in this type of configuration.

While privacy is sorely lacking on Turkish's 777, these forward-facing, lie-flat seats do have one plus: a significant amount of legroom. With an open layout, there is no concern about the tight footwells you might find in such seats as Delta One suites or even Singapore's A350-900 .

turkish airlines business class travel kit

There is also something to be said about having three windows to yourself (if you snag a window seat).

As for the seats themselves, they feel roomy at 22 inches wide with 78 inches of pitch. That meant in lie-flat mode, I had over six feet to fully stretch out.

Coupled with plenty of space for your feet, that made the Turkish 777 is a comfortable (albeit not very secluded) place to sleep. I got a solid five hours of rest on this 10-hour flight.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Personally, I don't mind the 2-3-2 arrangement, even as a solo traveler. And while I'd prefer a seat with a door, such as British Airways' new Club Suite , I liked having so much space to spread out in this open configuration. Even better, the seat next to me wasn't occupied.

The business cabin was about half full once boarding was complete.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

In economy, Turkish has a comfortable 3-3-3 seating arrangement. These days, most airlines outfit their 777s in a 3-4-3 setup, so this is a major improvement in terms of seat width.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Back in business class, I settled into my seat. Even fully stretched out, try as I might, my 5'7" frame couldn't reach the footrest.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

I was able to squeeze my backpack under the footrest, which was convenient, and then began checking out the other seat features.

There's a small storage area within the center console, where one power outlet and one USB port are located. Besides this, there wasn't much in the way of storage.

While I loved all the legroom, there weren't many ways to adjust the seat to a comfortable reclined – yet not fully flat – position.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

In lie-flat mode, however, the seat was a very pleasant place to be. This was helped by the fact that the crew provided a mattress pad, small pillow and a duvet once I was ready to settle in for the night.

There was also a divider that could be raised to give a small semblance of privacy between the seats.

Amenities and inflight entertainment

As I mentioned, this plane featured one of the airline's more dated in-flight entertainment systems, with a 15.4" touchscreen interface.

While the video library wasn't as extensive as some of the best in the industry (such as Emirates' ice system), there was a wide selection to choose from , including a number of first-run movies like "Parasite" and "Joker" and timeless classics like "Casablanca" and "Die Hard".

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Personally, I loved how all the "Harry Potter" movies were available for bingeing.

One thing I didn't love: The scuffed remote control, which was frustrating to use due to its lack of responsiveness. (Although the monitor is touchscreen-enabled, it's so far away from the seat that you'll have to use the remote.)

The cabin crew handed out noise-canceling headphones by Denon, but they were so-so in quality. I had forgotten to pack my much better Bose noise-canceling headset, but the Denon ones were an adequate substitute for the flight.

However, the crew annoyingly collected the headphones about an hour from landing, so I'd highly suggest bringing your own.

Turkish Airlines is one of the few airlines to offer free Wi-Fi for business-class passengers, up to 1 GB of complimentary access. All Miles & Smiles members also get 10 MB of free Wi-Fi access, and while that isn't much, it's definitely appreciated.

I didn't get to do an official speed test, but the connection was consistent throughout the flight and good enough for several hours of emails and writing.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

During boarding, the crew passed out Versace amenity kits.

Male-identifying passengers got a brown leather kit while female-identifying passengers got an aqua-colored kit. (Why there is a need to have gender-specific kits is beyond me.)

turkish airlines business class travel kit

The Versace products inside were part of the Eros line, with a minty yet woodsy fragrance, and included a face mist, lotion and lip balm.

There was also an eye mask, a fluffy pair of socks, a mini-dental kit, floss and stickers that you could place on your seat to let the crew know if you wanted to be awakened for service or not.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

A shoe bag with a pair of thin slippers had been waiting at my seat at boarding. However, Turkish doesn't provide pajamas, which was a bit disappointing. To be fair, only a handful of airlines, such as Qatar Airways, actually supply pajamas for long-haul business class – but it would have been nice to have had a set of them to sleep in before changing back into my street clothes.

There are a total of three business-class lavatories: one near the cockpit at the front of the aircraft and two located near the galley between the two business-class cabins.

Each lavatory was stocked with Molton Brown toiletries, including orange and bergamot scented hand wash and hand lotion.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Throughout the flight, the cabin crew kept the lavatories in spotless shape.

In addition, with only about half of the business cabin occupied, the ratio between passengers and toilets was about 8 to 1 and there was rarely a line.

Food and beverage

I thought this was going to be the show-stopping element of the flight – but it ended up being a mixed experience.

Back in May 2021, Turkish announced it was bringing back hot meals after a year's absence, along with its famed "Flying Chefs" on flights of eight hours or longer.

These in-flight chefs are responsible for overseeing the entire meal service, from taking orders to preparation and seat-side presentation. In fact, it's a distinguishing aspect of Turkish Airlines' catering program, and one I was eager to experience for myself.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

To get things started, one of the chefs serving my aisle – in full whites and a towering toque – presented both a menu and wine list shortly after boarding.

There were three main course options, but I was disappointed to see that there was just a single appetizer medley and one dessert available.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

At this point, I also realized that the flight probably wouldn't be using display trolleys for each course, as it did before the pandemic. As part of its COVID-19 protocols, there also were no pre-departure beverages, just small bottles of water distributed once all passengers were on board.

Shortly after leveling at cruising altitude, though, the cabin crew sprang into action for the main meal service. The chefs took our drink and main course orders about 30 minutes after takeoff.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Around 10 minutes later, I received my beverages: Turkish's signature mint lemonade (which was noticeably missing mint) and sparkling water with lemon. I'm not a big drinker, especially when I'm flying, so I can't critique the wine menu.

At the 50-minute mark after takeoff, I received a tray with the appetizer, mezze and a whole lot of plastic covers.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Once I got the excessive amount of plastic out of the way, the chef who was roaming my aisle placed a piece of bread on my tray.

I found it odd that it wasn't Turkish pide bread, but instead, a mini French baguette. Nevertheless, I tore it apart and strategically used it to scoop up both the baba ganoush and muhammara.

The baba ganoush was the perfect blend of chunky and creamy, while the muhammara was smooth and had a nice spicy kick to it.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

The mozzarella and tomato salad, while quite fresh, was a tad bland, even with the olive oil and vinegar dressing that came alongside it.

For my main, I went with the polenta and chicken breast, which didn't have the most elegant presentation but was quite tasty. It's easy for chicken on an aircraft to come out dry, but this cut of meat was juicy, tender and well-seasoned.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Meanwhile, the somewhat nondescript chocolate mousse dessert was already on the tray.

I'm not a picky eater, but one of the very few things that I don't eat is chocolate in any shape or form, so I passed on this. Instead, I ordered a tea to finish things off. I also asked the chef for a Turkish delight sweet.

Instead, he gave me an assortment of snacks including savory crackers, Pringles and a chocolate bar, and told me they weren't serving Turkish delight due to the pandemic. Odd.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Once my tray and tea were both cleared, we were just over an hour and a half into the flight.

Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed by the meal itself, from the single-tray service to the limited menu entries. I had just been expecting a bit more, pandemic or not.

However, I do realize that Turkish has not brought back its full onboard service and doesn't have an expected date for when it will. That meant no trolleys, separate plated dishes, dessert options, pre-departure beverages or battery-operated candles to set the mood.

In addition, for an early afternoon departure and a scheduled flight time of nearly 10 hours, I was surprised to see the crew finish the meal service so quickly. From there, they shut off the lights – and unless you pressed the call button, there was no service of any kind until the pre-arrival meal.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

Disappointingly, the only snacks available in between the meal service were of the pre-packaged (read: unhealthy) variety.

Finally, about two and a half hours before landing, the pre-arrival service began. I thought this timing was a bit early, since I was deep in sleep when I heard the crew begin preparing for breakfast.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

I wasn't very hungry, but instead of trying to go back to sleep, I woke up for review purposes and ordered a coffee to perk me up.

A lovely continental spread of yogurt, cold cuts, cheese and fruit started things off. The chef working my aisle also came around with a bread basket, with options of a chocolate croissant, plain croissant or mini baguettes (again).

turkish airlines business class travel kit

There was both a savory and a sweet option for the breakfast main. For breakfast, nine times out of 10 I go for savory, and that's what I did here.

My mozzarella and tomato omelet that arrived was buttery and fluffy, with the side of potatoes perfectly crisp. Like chicken, eggs are often overcooked on flights so I was pleasantly surprised at how well they turned out.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

All in all, I found the food – both the main dinner course and pre-arrival breakfast – to be high quality and well prepared. At the same time, the catering wasn't head and shoulders above other business-class meals that I have had on other airlines.

First, I have to acknowledge that no element of the service was objectively terrible. But overall, it just didn't feel very polished or elegant.

turkish airlines business class travel kit

The crew often seemed in a hurry to finish their tasks, with few pleasantries or even words spoken.

For instance, whenever I made a request, the crew would be so quick to depart that I often didn't even finish saying what I wanted. While this could be due to a lack of command of English, I didn't see the crew interact much with Turkish-speaking passengers, either.

I was hoping for the crew to not only be a bit more personable but also to just stay by my seat long enough to hear my drink order before leaving.

Finally, without the trolleys and individually-plated service, I didn't entirely understand the point of having onboard chefs. Meals were served pre-plated and with a cover. The in-flight chefs looked slick, but other than taking the meal orders, they essentially disappeared on my flight.

Overall impression

Turkish Airlines has a lot going for it. There is an extensive route network and a gorgeous (albeit slightly soulless) new airport in Istanbul. And from a passenger experience perspective, Turkish has a reputation for fantastic onboard catering.

There's no question that Turkish's 777s have a dated business-class cabin. And on my flight, service from the crew felt indifferent and not particularly distinguished.

In practice, the onboard catering with its current service adjustments couldn't make up for these two downsides – so I wasn't completely satisfied by my first Turkish Airlines business class experience.

I realize now that I boarded the flight with expectations that were slightly too high. If I had tempered them, especially knowing about the more limited service, I would have been more likely to enjoy Turkish business class on the 777. I'd love to try Turkish again once its full catering operation has returned – especially if it is on board a Boeing 787 or Airbus A350 with newer business-class seats.

Versace Offers Travel Kits to Turkish Airlines Business Class Fliers

VERSACE FRESHENS UP: Duty-free shopping in airports can be a blood sport for harried travelers who tend to fall into two camps — killing time or crunched for time.

Turkish Airlines travelers can skip the last-minute blitz for moisturizer, lip balm and other in-flight sundries, since the carrier will be providing them with travel kits from Versace or Mandarina Duck. Business-class passengers taking intercontinental flights will get the Versace assortment. Female fliers will find socks, earplugs, a sleep mask, warning stickers, Versace lip balm, hand lotion, facial mist and a hair clasp all contained in a zippered orange case. The men’s version is slightly different and is stowed away on a black case. To keep the pearly whites intact, there are travel-size Colgate toothpaste tubes as part of the deal.

More than 1.4 million people have watched the five-minute spot on her YouTube channel . The supermodel breaks out her pre-packed plastic gloves to scrub down her business class surroundings, “cleaning anything that you touch or could possibly touch.”

Turkish Airlines isn’t just offering its business-class passengers some special pampering with the Versace loot. Its economy-class travelers are being given Mandarina Duck’s version of a travel kit. The toiletries aren’t the only way that the company is trying to refresh its image. For its 85th anniversary, Turkish Airlines has spruced up cabin crew employees’ in-flight look with new uniforms from Ettore Bilotta. The new uniforms were sewn by Vakko, and the main fabrics were produced by Altınyıldız, in compliance with Turkish Airlines’ flight standards. The  Milan -based designer incorporated classic elements of Turkish design borrowed from traditional patterns in artisanal glassware, ceramics and calligraphy with contemporary accents. To give his finery more of an of-the-moment spin, the airline tapped British photographer Miles Aldridge to shoot the campaign to launch the cabin uniform collection on location in Turkey. Aldridge said the Italian designer’s new uniforms “hark back to a golden age of fashion from the Fifties, but with a contemporary twist.”

And as for those duty-free pre-flight or post-flight shoppers, last year some of the most avid ones helped South Korea’s Incheon International Airport rack up $2.4 billion in sales — more than any other airport. Their thirst for beauty products reportedly resulted in 40 percent of the total. Finishing in second place was Dubai International Airport with just over $2 billion in duty-free sales last year.

Ranked: The Best Airlines for Affordable Business Class Travel

I f flying economy is like staying in a Motel 6, flying in business class is like checking into a Hyatt. It's not quite the Four Seasons (that would be first class), but it certainly has more perks than your average motel. However, you'll easily pay three to four times more to fly business class than you would for an economy seat. And if you're going to pay more, we say you should get more.

According to experts, though, our list omits some of the finest airlines in the world, and we do recognize that fact. This article is intended to share the top five airlines offering business class flights at a price that won't leave you with a huge credit card bill.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

No. 1: Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines may not be the first airline you think of if you're planning an international trip, but you should probably add it to your list. The airline is known for offering great deals -- and Hawaiian hospitality -- on business class flights to Asia and the South Pacific.

It's possible to find bargain prices on business class tickets year-round, but particularly during the off-season.

What you can expect to find onboard:

  • Plenty of legroom and a seat with an ottoman/footrest
  • Seat that transforms to fully lie-flat bed
  • Mattress cover, comforter, and soft pillow
  • Storage compartments
  • Amenities like earplugs, earphones, eye mask, toothbrush/toothpaste, lotion, lip balm, tissues, comb, hydrating mist, sunscreen, and pen
  • Two USB ports and an AC power outlet
  • Entertainment tablet that slips seamlessly into an arm that extends from the console in front of you
  • Entertainment options, including movies, TV shows, and games
  • Drinks, including alcoholic beverages
  • Gourmet meals

No. 2: Turkish Airlines

If you're a world traveler who would rather visit non-touristy spots, the off-season is the time to visit Istanbul. It's then you can snag a round-trip flight from the U.S. to Turkey for as little as $1,500. Once in Istanbul, you can fly to nearly any European city in under four hours.

Turkish Airlines sweetens the pot by offering an optional stopover in Istanbul that allows you to extend your stay in a 5-star hotel at a bargain price. That way, if you want to see what Istanbul offers before jetting off to another exotic locale, it won't cost much.

What you can expect to find onboard a long-haul flight:

  • Spacious leg room area
  • Lie-flat seats
  • Seat massagers
  • Flying chefs preparing made-to-order meals
  • Complimentary wifi
  • Noise-canceling headphones

No. 3: Aeromexico

You may already be familiar with Aeromexico, especially if you routinely fly between the U.S. and Mexico. However, did you know that the airline offers some of the best business class fare on trips between the U.S. and other Latin American countries? For example, it's possible to pay less than $700 for a one-way ticket from Los Angeles to São Paulo, Brazil.

When looking for a business-class ticket on Aeromexico, you'll want to search for "Clase Premier."

Here's what you can expect to find onboard:

  • Blanket and pillow
  • Large, bright entertainment system
  • Movies and television shows
  • Full drink service, including alcoholic beverages
  • Personal power outlet
  • Extraordinary service

No. 4: Aer Lingus

For many, the top selling point for flying business class is access to much more leg room, better food options, and lie-flat seats. Round-trip flights on Aer Lingus between Europe and the East Coast will run you around $1,500, and you can expect to pay a few hundred more for round-trip flights between Europe and the West Coast.

  • Fully lie-flat seats
  • Seats with a massage option

No. 5: TAP Portugal

You may not have the most luxurious experience flying TAP Portugal, but travel writers claim it's still quite nice. Besides, flights between Europe and the U.S. start at under $700. TAP is one of the few airlines that doesn't charge a premium for return-only flights. That means if you decide to backpack through Europe but aren't quite sure when you'll return, your favorite travel credit card won't get dinged with extra charges when you book a flight home.

6 Cheapest Business Class Airlines for an Affordable Upgrade

With the ever-shrinking seats in coach class, the allure of those spacious front-of-plane cabins has never been stronger. Flying business class can feel reminiscent of the golden era of travel, when glamour and comfort ruled the skies. Perks like lie-flat beds, privacy doors that encapsulate seats, airport lounge access, and even chauffeur services can entice even the most austere travelers among us to contemplate splurging on an upgrade every now and then.

Of course, those amenities all come at a price. Business class fares can be prohibitively expensive for the average traveler, with one-way tickets soaring as high as several thousands dollars. But did you know that the cheapest business class airlines offer many of the best perks for less money? If you know the right carriers, an affordable but luxurious business class ticket could be within reach. Here’s everything you need to know about the cheapest business class airlines .

What perks and amenities do the cheapest business class airlines give you?

On board a cheap business class airline that still offers good value, you can expect a spacious seat—one that lies flat on longer routes—better in-flight meals, complimentary alcohol, and reserved overhead bin space.

Other perks on the ground will vary from airline to airline. Some carriers “unbundle” their cheapest business class fares, meaning amenities like airport lounge access , seat selection, and over-the-top perks like chauffeur services aren’t offered to keep prices lower. Other airlines simply do not offer any customers amenities like lounges at all.

To get the cheapest business class fares, you’ll have to decide what perks are most important to you. Would you prefer to relax in a lounge during a long layover? Or is an affordable bed in the sky with fully closing doors of more importance? The airlines below all offer luxury, but the emphasis is put on different stages of the travel experience.

What prices are considered affordable for business class?

The price for that premium seat can get quite steep: Flights in top business class cabins can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000. Like other airline tickets , the price of cheap business class fares can depend on the destination, time of year, when you book, and the airline itself. The longer the flight and the plusher the cabin, the higher the fare will climb.

However, according to recent data from aviation statistics firm Cirium , The average business class fare in 2023 was $1,845. So anything near or below that price point can be considered a pretty good deal for one-way in business class—keeping in mind the factors like the length of the flight and the amenities your ticket includes.

6 of the cheapest business class airlines

LISBON PORTUGAL 20220902 TAP Air Portugal plane seen landing in Lisbon.

TAP Air Portugal business class tickets can occasionally be found for under $2,000 roundtrip.

TAP Air Portugal

Generally known as a budget carrier, TAP Air Portugal actually offers a solid—and affordable—business class product as well. According to Katy Nastro, travel expert at Going.com , TAP Air Portugal routinely prices its business class seats to Europe for less than $3,000 roundtrip—sometimes even slipping below $2,000 roundtrip. For that price, you’ll get lie-flat seats with bedding that includes wrap-around duvets and large pillows, as well as meal service that features Portuguese dishes and wines. The seats and finishes might not feel as plush as other business classes, but you’ll have space to stretch your legs and lie flat at an attainable price point.

Turkish Airlines

Offering a few more amenities but still cheaper rates in business is Turkish Airlines, a carrier that Nastro says also consistently offers seats in business class on flights to Turkey and other destinations in Europe for under $3,000 roundtrip. You’ll be well cared for in Turkish business class, which offers a lie-flat seat that’s more than six feet long and up to two feet wide, with an 18-inch entertainment screen. When it comes to dining, you’ll have access to the airline’s iconic flying chefs, who prepare a litany of Turkish dishes and other cuisines mid-flight and essentially transform the business class cabin into a flying, top-tier restaurant. Plus, business class passengers also have access to Turkish lounges when they arrive at the airport.

Emirates' most affordable business class option doesn't include perks like lounge access or seat selection.

Emirates “Special” business class fares

In order to give customers access to the cheapest business class seats, Emirates unbundles its business class fares. If you book one of these tickets, called “Special" business class fares by the airline, you won’t have access to Emirates lounges , chauffeur service, seat selection, or upgrades to first class. But once onboard the plane, you get all those bells and whistles Emirates business class is known for: ultra-comfy beds, gourmet food, premium cocktails, and even the A380’s onboard cocktail lounge.

Using the unbundled booking method can potentially save travelers thousands of dollars. A quick check of business class fares on Emirates’ New York to Dubai route for June 2024 showed the airline’s Special business class price at $2,787 one-way, while its Flex Plus business class ticket, which offers the most perks and rebooking options, clocked in at $6,229—a difference of more than $3,400. The Special fares are only available on certain routes and certain times of year, so if you see one that works for you, it could be worth locking in.

This little-known German carrier flies from 13 major US gateways to Europe, and is one of the best cheapest business class airlines out there. Condor’s sharp-looking business class cabins with striped accents offer seats that transform into a 6.5-foot lie-flat bed, 4K entertainment screens, and direct-aisle access for every passenger. Plus, each business class passenger gets access to Condor’s lounges. Fares start at about $1,100 on flights from New York to Berlin.

Qatar Airways Business Class Lite option is a more affordable way to book one of the best seats in the sky.

Qatar Airways’ Business Class Lite option is a more affordable way to book one of the best seats in the sky.

Qatar Airways Business Class Lite

Much like Emirates’ unbundled tickets, Qatar Airways’ Business Class Lite and Business Class Classic fares offer the same opulent seats to fliers who’d like to shave off a few amenities in order to save money. You won’t have lounge access or seat selection before check-in included in your ticket. But you can book into the revered Qsuites product, which offers fully closing doors around a spacious lie-flat seat (79 inches long and 21 inches wide) and impeccable in-flight service. While the price tag can’t be considered “cheap” compared to some carriers, the unbundled fares can be a more affordable way to book one of the best seats in the sky. The unbundled fares aren’t offered on all routes, but a search of Qatar’s flights from New York to Doha for August 2024 shows Business Class Classic fares for $6,268, while Business Elite is $8,810—a difference of more than $2,500.

JetBlue Mint

Although it’s not offered on every plane or every route, JetBlue’s Mint business class is among the best premium products in terms of value for the money. Mint offers a mix of standard lie-flat seats and more private suites with doors, depending on the aircraft layout. Each seat offers adjustable firmness, a massage function, and turns into a bed that’s six feet, eight inches long outfitted with blankets and pillows from Tuft and Needle. You can also expect some seriously scrumptious food and drink options, as JetBlue has partnered with New York restaurant group Delicious Hospitality, the collective behind Manhattan restaurants Pasquale Jones, Charlie Bird, and Legacy Records, to design the rotating menus in Mint. One-way tickets start at about $700 and range up to $2,000 to fly between New York and Los Angeles, but expect to pay more on JetBlue’s international routes.

  • Business class offers top-notch dining experiences with renowned chefs and fine wines on international flights.
  • Airlines like Emirates and Air France provide gourmet five-course meals designed by Michelin-starred chefs.
  • Passengers enjoy luxury dishes on flights with Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Turkish Airlines for exceptional dining.

Business class travel is a world ahead of economy class in terms of travel perks and creature comforts during the trip. The perks often start before passengers even board the plane, since many airlines offer pickup and special check-in services for business-class travelers.

Once on board, you get to enjoy comfier seats and in some cases flatbeds for a good night's sleep during long trips. Business class passengers also enjoy much better meals and drinks than travelers in economy class . We've identified the top-rated international airlines that offer the best business-class dining experiences.

These airlines go the extra mile, offering meals with recipes designed by renowned chefs of Michelin-starred restaurants and fine dining experiences that rival that of world-class restaurants on the ground.

So, for air travelers who prioritize good food, wine, and champagne above all else, here are seven airlines offering the very best business-class dining experiences at 30,000-plus feet.

14 Reasons Why Upgrading To Business Class Is So Worth The Money

7 singapore airlines, a unique "book the cook" program lets business class passengers preview and pre-select dishes up to 8 days before their trip.

Once a passenger confirms a business class booking, you can immediately log onto the airline's "Manage Booking" portal to select from over 200 meals, including Singaporean, Japanese, Indian, Malay, and Western cuisines. These meals are all designed by a panel of world-class chefs that includes individuals like Georges Blanc (France), Matt Moran (Australia), Zhu Jun (China), Yoshihiro Murata (Japan), and Sanjeev Kapoor (India).

Ultimately, though, the airline's roots are firmly Asian, and many of its most popular menu options are Singaporean delicacies like chicken rice and noodle soup, lamb and sunchoke, and porridge with coconut milk and chia seeds. There's also always a large selection of wines and champagne curated by wine experts from France.

Leave room for dessert since it's almost always an indulgent and memorable finale to the airline's multi-course meals.

6 Qatar Airways

Business class passengers enjoy three-course meals on every flight plus an extensive selection of cocktails and wines.

In its generously-spaced business class suites with lie-flat beds, moveable table panels, comfy seats, and mood lighting, passengers get to select meals from an à la carte menu. Menu options include signature dishes, vegan meals, and special meals for kids and religious requirements. All dishes are first-class meals, and it's little wonder why the carrier has been voted as the best airline in the world on multiple occasions.

Among the many three-course meals that the airline offers, loyal Qatar Airways travelers often recommend a combination of the Middle Eastern mezze dish with hummus to start, followed by chicken biryani or braised lamb, then fresh fruit for dessert. There are also lots of soft drinks, snacks, wine, and champagne to choose from.

5 Cathay Pacific

A broad international selection of tasty cuisines from one of the pioneers of in-flight dining.

This airline offers a wide range of healthy international and Hong Kong dishes designed to ensure there's always something that caters to dietary requirements, including those with allergies. Travelers can preview the menu when booking and pre-select their meals up to 10 days before their flight.

The airline is the flagship carrier of Hong Kong, which explains why its menu is renowned for its classic, with a twist, Hong Kong dishes. These meals are designed in partnership with some of the most acclaimed chefs in the city and include combo meals, traditional Hong Kong Dim sum, claypot rice, and soup noodles. Meals can be combined with fine wines from the airline's award-winning cellar.

10 Convincing Reasons To Plan A Trip To Hong Kong In 2023

Gourmet meals are served on custom-made emirates china and cutlery.

This airline is one of the two flagship airlines of the UAE and it offers its passengers meals based on the local cuisine of the destination region. This means travelers to France are served French dishes, travelers to Japan are served Japanese delicacies, while travelers to Dubai are served traditional Arabic meals. A lot of attention is paid to satisfying passengers, and the airline has even gone as far as building a vertical farm to grow food for in-flight meals .

Each passenger is offered a complimentary glass of champagne once they board, followed by an appetizer, the main course, and finally, a decadent dessert. Given that meals vary depending on the region and season of the year, it's hard to specify favorite signature dishes, but the curated selection of fine wines on board is a near constant, and guests can always choose from spirit brands like Jameson, Belvedere Vodka, Hennessy X.O., and others.

3 Turkish Airlines

A large selection of traditional turkish and international cuisines are prepared according to islamic principles.

This airline offers its business class passengers a "Dine on Demand" option that lets you request specific meals at least 48 hours before your trip. Select from red meat-based meals, chicken dishes, different types of pasta, and traditional local Turkish staples.

The meals are prepared in flight by the airline's expert flying chefs, and meat lovers will surely enjoy the much-hyped Adana kebab, lamb chops, and grilled cutlets on the menu. As for vegan travelers, there's an extensive selection of vegan meal options. To complement your meal, travelers can pick from the extensive selection of homemade mocktails and hot drinks.

2 Air France

Five-course gourmet meals (aperitif, starter, main course, cheese, and dessert) designed by michelin-starred chefs.

The French are well known for their love of quality food and no one should be surprised that France's national carrier is on this list. Credit for the airline's first-rate, business-class menu must be given to the 17 renowned chefs and wine experts who helped design the meals . Passengers are given the flexibility to choose their meals 15 days before their trip, and even get an email reminder 4 days before their flight if they haven't made a selection.

Once on board, travelers can request their chosen meal whenever they want, and indulge in the wide range of beverages and French champagne available. For the perfect culinary experience, more than a few seasoned Air France travelers recommend fresh fruit as an appetizer, smoked salmon and yogurt as a starter meal, confit lamb for a main dish, and you can't go wrong with dessert (and the airline does serve ice cream).

1 All Nippon Airways (ANA)

Transcendent meals and handpicked wine selections by the connoisseurs—a group of celebrity chefs and renowned sommeliers from japan and abroad.

ANA is Japan's largest airline, and it offers its passengers a large selection of meals based on Western and traditional Japanese cuisine. In fact, all of its flight menus, irrespective of the destination city, have meals grouped into Japanese and international cuisines. Guests are required to pre-order their meal at least 24 hours before their trip.

All of the meals are created by master chefs, including the likes of Toru Okuda, Yoshihiro Takahashi, Ryuta Lizuka, Hideki Takayama, and Noriaki Aida, as well as sommeliers Oliver Poussier and Andaz Tokyo.

Avianca reintroduces business class in the americas.

The airline's Airbus A320s will feature a new business class cabin on flights over five hours within the Americas.

  • avianca is bringing back business class on flights longer than 5 hours within the Americas, with dedicated perks and services.
  • Business class on the airline's Airbus A320s will include special meals, lounge access, and increased baggage allowance.
  • The decision to restore business class comes after significant passenger backlash and the exit of a major competitor.

avianca has boldly decided to restore business class, backtracking on an earlier, controversial move. From July 1st, flights over five hours throughout the Americas will feature business class seating and service.

avianca's new business class will make up the first three rows of its Airbus A320 aircraft. The soft product will feature dedicated business class meals and beverages, amenity kits, and onboard entertainment, while at the airport, business class passengers will benefit from lounge access, increased baggage allowance, and priority boarding.

Flights longer than five hours

Business class will be restored on the Colombian flag carrier's flights longer than five hours throughout the Americas. From the airline's hub at El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, this includes flights to and from Santiago de Chile (SCL), Buenos Aires (EZE), Montevideo (MVD), São Paulo (GRU), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), Washington (IAD), Boston (BOS), Toronto (YYZ), and Mexico City (MEX).

Meanwhile, passengers traveling in business class on avianca's fleet of Boeing 787-8s within the Americas will enjoy the same perks as those on the A320, but with the additional benefit of lie-flat seating. This will be differentiated from the business class offered on the airline's long-haul flights to Europe, known as avianca insignia.

avianca took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to confirm the news and showcase its new business class products:

Welcome back, business class

Since October 2022, the only flights in the airline's route network to feature business class were those operated to and from Europe with the 787 - Madrid (MAD), Barcelona (BCN), and London (LHR). On all other flights operated by the 787, the business class cabin was sold as economy class with more space and featured the airline's standard economy class onboard service.

In August 2023, following significant passenger backlash, the airline reintroduced business class on a limited number of routes from Bogotá operated by the Boeing 787 - Miami (MIA), Buenos Aires (EZE), and São Paulo (GRU). However, this left most of the carrier's route network without a business class service.

Supporting avianca's rebound from the pandemic

In 2022, avianca removed business class from its fleet of Airbus A320s, increasing economy class capacity by 20%. At the time, despite much negative press attention, the move made financial sense - the airline was in severe financial trouble following the pandemic and faced increased competition from ultra-low-cost carrier Viva Air Colombia.

However, after Viva Air Colombia ceased operations in 2023, the future of the country's aviation industry may look different, with room for a legacy business class after all. This latest news will undoubtedly be welcomed by the airline's frequent flyers and will help it attract new passengers to a competitive market.

Frequently asked questions

  • The trick to having an amazing flight experience is to pack ahead. So, let’s start with the essentials: passport, official ID, cash and daily medications. Next, bring items that’ll help keep you entertained, like your laptop or a good book. It’s also smart to bring your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of earphones. And of course, be sure to toss in toiletries like a toothbrush, cleansing wipes and a clean T-shirt.
  • While the list of banned items can differ between airlines, the general rule to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, pocket knives, spray paint and flares. Sporting equipment like hockey sticks, and objects that could harm passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, aren’t allowed in the cabin either.
  • The answer to a comfortable flight can be as simple as your choice of clothing. Prepare for changes in temperature by bringing layers. This will keep you nice and warm if the cabin starts to cool down. Shoes like stilettos, flip flops and lace-up boots are best left in your suitcase. Even though they may be your favorites, go for flat, closed-toed footwear like slip-ons. Your feet will thank you for it.
  • A condition by the name of DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking up and down the aisle and doing leg and foot exercises in your seat is a great way to prevent this from happening. Wearing a good pair of compression tights or socks can also help.
  • Your travel documents and ID will need to be presented to security personnel. Have them close by to avoid fumbling around for them.
  • Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them before your turn.
  • For just a few minutes, you’ll have to unplug from the digital world. Your phone, laptop and any other electronic devices also need to be sent through the scanner.
  • Remove liquids and gels from your hand luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each product should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
  • There’s a possibility that you’ll be required to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a clever idea.
  • Airlines won’t allow any sharp objects in the cabin. If you need to bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked luggage.

American Airlines is preparing for summer travel with new premium onboard amenities — take a look

  • American Airlines is launching its first rotating collection of premium amenities Memorial Day Weekend.
  • It includes a new front-row flagship suite, new bedding, and enhanced dining options.
  • The new amenity kit program will cycle skincare products and offer limited-edition specialty kits.

Insider Today

American Airlines is gearing up for summer travel with new luxury in-flight offerings for its customers.

American is launching its first rotating collection of premium onboard amenities over Memorial Day Weekend. It will be available on 300 international and transcontinental flights.

The offerings include new bedding, dining options, and an amenity kit program that lets premium passengers sample different skincare brands and products.

"We thoughtfully curate each element of the onboard experience so every customer can look forward to the time they spend in flight," American's vice president of customer experience, Kim Cisek, said in a statement. "Part of the magic of travel is connecting our customers to the people and experiences that matter most to them."

While most of the new amenities are being offered to premium cabins, main cabin passengers will also have access to new bedding and other seat enhancements.

Passengers in the main cabin will have access to 4K seatback screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and new charging ports. All customers will have access to 1,500 free entertainment content options and can use high-speed WiFi.

Passengers can kick back in the flagship suites with new privacy doors and chaise lounge positions.

Customers traveling in American's flagship suite seat will have access to wireless charging, Bluetooth capability, and multiple storage spaces.

Passengers traveling in premium economy can also enjoy new amenities like wireless charging, additional storage space, and privacy headrest wings.

Customers looking for more luxury can sit front row on the new Boeing 787-9 and 777-300 aircraft's flagship suite preferred seat.

The new seat offers customers additional space and storage. It will offer additional amenities for passengers' comfort, like a Nest Bedding mattress pad, a throw blanket, and a memory foam lumbar pillow.

The seat will also have Nest Bedding pajamas and an exclusive amenity kit featuring additional skincare products.

American used customer research to enhance its bedding in all cabins.

American decided to offer dual-sided pillows to flagship first and business class after research indicated 75% of its customers preferred different materials on each side of their pillows. The new pillow will have cool touch fabric on one side and traditional fabric on the other.

Travelers in flagship business class can now enjoy slippers onboard.

The slippers used to only be offered on ultra-long-haul flights.

Customers in all cabins will enjoy enhanced bedding, with cabin-specific offerings like lumbar pillows, throw blankets, premium duvets, and fleece blankets.

American says the new bedding packaging will save 25 tons of plastic waste a year.

American collaborated with inflight textile company John Horsfall to create bedding from recycled materials. Nearly all the pillows, duvets, and blankets were made with recycled fibers, and filled bedding will be 100% recycled.

Customers traveling in premium cabins will also receive their bedding in a reusable zipper bag made with recycled fibers to reduce plastic waste from distribution.

International business class passengers can try out new flavors inspired by international cuisine and American Airlines destinations worldwide.

American is offering new menu offerings to business class passengers on international US inbound and outbound flights.

Some of the meals include macadamia-crusted sea bass with citrus cream sauce, quinoa, toasted orzo, and haricot verts.

American is also offering enhanced dining options to domestic travelers in first class.

Customers can also choose from new preorder options.

Preorder options will continue to roll out this spring for business class on flights from the US to international destinations.

Business class, premium economy, and first class passengers can pre-order all of the meals offered to their cabins. The main cabin doesn't have pre-ordering available but passengers receive a complimentary in-flight snack and beverage. They can also purchase food through the buy-on-board program.

Passengers in premium cabins will also have access to the new amenity kit program.
