Great overall view of the city

Take this 4 hr tour when you first get to SanDiego. It was informative and our guide gave us good info that we used for all week. Our family thought it could have gone about 3 hours though.

We took the gray line tour of the city to get an idea of what we'd like to see later on our visit. Customer service was helpful, and the driver/guide was informative and added lots of humorous comments to keep things light. We could always hear what he was saying, the windows were large enough so we could see what he was talking about, and the bus was clean, comfortable & air-conditioned. The tour lasts about four hours. It was nice to get an idea of what San Diego is like as a city without driving around by ourselves. Afterward, we added two places to our itinerary for our stay, one we enjoyed and one we should have skipped. If we had to do it again, we would have chosen one of the add-on tours (Midway or similar) for convenience - it is hard to fit in everything in one trip to San Diego!

When planning our trip to San Diego, I was pleased to see this Tijuana day trip included on the San Diego Go Card. As a single woman travelling with two young girls, we wanted to make a quick trip into Mexico, and do it safely. The bus was an hour late picking us up at the hotel ( may have been due to a reschedule of our reservations the morning before, that we didn't get put on that morning's pick up list. But the company was prompt in getting us picked up as quickly as possible after i called them when 20 minutes had gone by + no bus yet. After being taken to the central meeting area, we were then directed to the bus for our destination. Our driver Juan was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We enjoyed the tour of Tijuana ( the beach, the border fence, cemeteries, bull ring) then we went to shopping district. Juan recommend a nice restaurant La Placita where we had lunch. Yes everyone wanted us to go into their shops. Some we did ( the driver recommended several reputable shops if you were looking for silver or leather goods.) Others we just said no thank you and kept walking. While I don't enjoy the dickering over the prices of items, it is simply the way it is done there. (there was a shop a few doors up the street from the Silver Mine that had little leather sombrero, flip flop and guitar key chains 3 for $1 that made great inexpensive souvenirs) Don't get your photo taken with theTijuana "zebra donkey" carts as the photo they try to sell you is printed on a portable printer and VERY GRAINY. (not like the sample they show you) Save a few $ to buy inexpensive beaded jewelery or braided cords from the kids selling them as you get ready to board the tour bus home. It probably is what supports their families & they are very polite + only asked once, no hounding like the adults at the shops After an hour wait to get back into the States, Juan dropped us back off at the hotel. All in all a very enjoyable day. We stayed in the area the driver told us to stay in, and we felt completely safe and comfortable the entire time.

Gray Line tours are often a great way to see a city in a short amount of time, so I have taken tours in several cities in the US over the years, however, I can NOT recommend the San Diego Gray Line tours. After a series of events that were reminiscent of a bad Laurel and Hardy movie (which included the bus showing up to our hotel an hour early, a subsequent hour and a half on multiple Gray Line buses--one of which was going to Anaheim--being transferred multiple times and ending up where we started out and never actaully making it to the central Gray Line "terminal" or the City Tour tour bus--which was the tour we wanted to take) we ended our ill-fated morning trip not having seen much of San Diego besides the freeway. My husband finally got us back to where we started by calling the company multiple times as we rode around (thank heavens for cell phones) on routes we were never supposed to have been on in the first place. I just can not give a strong enough warning to stay away from the San Diego Gray Line tours--try the trolley tours instead (they are not climate controlled, but at least you make it to the stops you want to see).

As the manager of the Gray Line product in San Diego, you can imagine how surprised I was to hear your story. After looking into this complaint further it appears as though we had you reserved for a 7:50am pick-up directly in front of your hotel for your City Tour that was set to begin at 8:15am. The vehicle that you boarded at 7:15am was designated for our Hollywood bound tour. Needless to say, that tour vehicle picks up much earlier in the morning, and with a different agenda. I'm not sure how, or why, you found yourself onto that particular vehicle but I'm quite sorry that this happened. In addition to refunding you your money, please let me know if your travels take you into another city where a Gray Line operates -- I'd like to do whatever I can to ensure you that the Gray Line product is not only sound, but also responsible.

Yes, I've seen the news about the violence across the border in Mexico. But this is not happening in the tourist areas. The Gray Line tour to Tijuana was my first trip to Mexico. I LOVED IT! The bus driver took us through a brief tour of the city before dropping us off on Revolution Avenue for shopping. A lot of the shops on Revolution have closed because of the drop in tourism. I did not feel unsafe at all. The driver gave us tips to avoid getting ripped off in the stores and remained with the bus, which was easy to access. I've felt more at risk walking the streets of Louisville. I got some great deals on silver jewelry and Oaxaca wood carvings. I also enjoyed lunch at Tia Juana Tilly's. I can't wait to go back. Next time, I'll do the Rosarito or Ensenada tour. Gray Lines VERY RECOMMENDED

They arrived 30 minutes late, left us waiting in the cold. But when we arrive just 5 minutes (probably less) late, the driver was very unfriendly to ask where have we been, and sarcastically commented that he almost called the police for missing person.

I'm very sorry that you had such an experience with us. Our hotel pick-ups can be tricky at times, especially if there is a traffic delay, a party doesn't show up, etc. I can say that it is our goal at Gray Line is to not only offer a great sightseeing experience but also a convenient one at that. I'm not sure why we were 30 minutes late on this particular tour, but I do apologize. It's difficult for me to tell which tour it was that you took or the driver guide that you had for that day. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me so that I can correct any issues that may have occurred. We value your business and I do look forward to resolving this issue as best as I know how.
