DP World Tour Championship: Field, tee times, and groups for the season finale
Published: 13 November 2023 Last updated: 18 November 2023
The DP World Tour reaches its conclusion in Dubai.
The DP World Tour reaches its climax in Dubai for the season-ending Tour Championship, but who is playing and what are the tee times?
Jump To: Round 4 Tee Times | Who Will Win
Four is set to become five for Rory McIlroy, as the Northern Irishman prepares to end the season as Europe’s No.1 golfer once again. It will be the second time Rory has defended the prestigious Race to Dubai title, having previously won the Order of Merit in 2012, 2014, and 2015.
It is also the first time a player has been crowned champion before the final event of the season. McIlroy did not play at last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, where the only players with a chance of catching the four-time Major champion failed to secure enough points to stay in contention.
Adrian Meronk’s T15 finish in South Africa only gained the Polish player 94.5 points, keeping him an insurmountable 2,294 points adrift of McIlroy, with the only other contender, Ryan Fox, finishing T51.
The most legitimate threat to McIlroy’s defense would have come in the shape of World No.3 Jon Rahm , had the Spaniard decided to make the trip to Sun City. A solid performance at the Nedbank would have put a sizable dent into the 2,083-point deficit, making Rory’s walk in Dubai a little less processional.
There is still a rather big tournament to be won in Dubai however, and with McIlroy and Rahm gunning for their third and fourth Tour Championship titles respectively, the competition is likely to be as fierce as ever.
Rahm secured a two-shot victory over the stellar field in 2022, making it three wins and a top-five finish from his four trips to the Earth Course. In doing so, Rahm became the first player to win the Tour Championship three times, and the only player to have won five Rolex Series titles.
While McIlroy and Rahm will no doubt be heavily fancied once again in Dubai, a contingent of their Ryder Cup stablemates including Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, and Matt Fitzpatrick will all relish the opportunity to steal bragging rights out in the desert.
Where is the DP World Tour Championship being played?
The 45th and final event of the DP World Tour season is held at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, a luxury golf community rated among the best lifestyle estates in the world.
The Estate boasts two Greg-Norman-designed courses – Fire and Earth, with the latter having played host to the DP World Tour’s flagship event for 14 years.
At 7,675 yards, the par-72 Earth course has been inspired by the great parklands of Europe and North America, featuring rolling terrain, rushing water, and unforgiving bunkers. The greens typically run at 12 on the stipmeter and water is on play on the 6th, 14, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes.
Englishman Justin Rose holds the course record at the Earth Course. His ten under 62 in 2012 however was not quite enough to prevent Rory McIlroy from winning his first Tour Championship title.

Who is playing in the DP World Tour Championship?
The Tour Championship will feature the top 50 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings including six of the top 20 in the Official Golf World Rankings .
Ten members of Europe’s winning Ryder Cup team from Rome will tee it up in the desert with only Justin Rose and Ludvig Aberg missing out. Other notable names not making the 50-player cut are England’s Aaron Rai and Scotland’s Richie Ramsey, who hold six DP Tour wins between them.
Seven of the top 20 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings hail from Scandinavia, including Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen, Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard, Sweden’s Alexander Bjork and Vincent Normrman, Finland’s Sami Valimaki, and Norwegian FedExCup Champion, Victor Hovland .
Non-European golfers in the field include Ryan Fox, Min Woo Lee, Ryo Hisatsune, Thriston Lawrence, Tom Kim, Daniel Hillier, Zander Lombard, and Lucas Herbert.
Who will win the DP World Tour Championship?
After a stunning 12-under par 60, England’s Matt Wallace (3/1) has launched himself into title contention, firing 12 birdies to top the leaderboard by a shot going into Sunday’s final round.
Hot on Wallace’s heels however are Europe’s Ryder Cup heroes Viktor Hovland (9/5) and Tommy Fleetwood (14/5) who will fancy their chances of a season-ending win in the desert.
Selected others
Nicolai Hojgaard 14/1
Jeff Winther 18/1
Jon Rahm 28/1
Ewen Ferguson 30/1

DP World Tour – Race to Dubai standings
Going into the season-ending Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy has compiled an insurmountable lead over the chasing pack from just nine tournaments played. Jon Rahm sits 2,082.53 points behind McIlroy from just seven events with Poland’s Adrian Meronk sitting in third a further 212.25 points adrift from 23 tournaments.
Can players secure PGA Tour cards?
A Strategic Alliance between the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour has enabled a formal pathway to be established for players to earn dual membership status. Following the Tour Championship, the top 10 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings (not otherwise exempt), will gain 2024 PGA Tour exemptions.
Adrian Meronk is currently the highest-ranked player, not otherwise exempt through the top 50 of the 2023 FedExCup standings, and is in prime position to earn an exemption into the Players Championship and two PGA Tour Signature Events in 2024.
Also in contention for dual membership are Rolex Series winner Victor Perez, Ryder Cup rookie Robert MacIntyre, and first-time DP World Tour winner Ryo Hisatsune.

Race to Dubai: Standings ahead of DP World Tour Championship and how to watch with Rory McIlroy in action
It’s the final week of the Race to Dubai , and some of the world’s biggest golfers are in town at the end of a long year.
The Earth Course, designed by Greg Norman, will once again play host to the final event of the season, the DP World Tour Championship.
The winner this week will pick up £2.2 million, more than is on offer at the majors, with the Race to Dubai champion collecting £700,000.
What is the Race to Dubai
The Race to Dubai is the European Tour’s season-long competition, culminating in the DP World Tour Championship.
Point are awarded at each tournament throughout the season, with more points at stake in the four majors and also the World Golf Championships. This means players who are based in America can still pick up lots of points, despite playing in very few European Tour events.
The top 50 in the standings, along with certain other players, have progressed to this week’s season-finale.
Unlike the PGA Tour’s play-off events, the FedEx Cup, there is no handicap system put in place for the final tournament, so there are only a certain number of players who can still mathematically win the Race to Dubai.
Who is playing at the DP World Tour Championship
Nine of Europe’s Ryder Cup team will be in action in the no-cut event, including tournament favourite Rory McIlroy .
The 53-man field has been set by the Race to Dubai standings, though Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia have both been given special exemptions, while American Will Zalatoris gets in due to his world ranking.
Jon Rahm has decided not to travel to Dubai, choosing to end his season and spend time with his family instead.
Viktor Hovland will also skip the event, while last season’s Race to Dubai champion Lee Westwood has not qualified. Justin Rose is the third qualified player not taking part.
Collin Morikawa and Billy Horschel are both looking to become the first American to win the Race to Dubai.
Morikawa’s nine European Tour events played this season include just three played outside of the United States.
His record in the majors and WGC events, particularly his victory at The Open, means that he is the man to beat.
Where to watch the DP World Tour Championship
TV channel: You can watch the action from 5am GMT on Thursday, on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Golf. The first two hours will cover the featured groups, before full live coverage from 7am.
That’s the same for the first three days from Dubai, with full coverage beginning at 6:30am on Sunday.
Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers will be able to watch the tournament on the Sky Go App.
McIlroy tees off at 7:25am on Thursday, with Horschel and Morikawa last out at 8:45am.

Who can win the Race to Dubai
Only six of those playing this week are in with a chance of finishing top of the Race to Dubai standings.
The winner of the final tournament will earn 2,000 Race to Dubai points, with the golfer finishing last on Sunday awarded just 50.40 points.
With Rahm not competing, only Horschel, Tyrrell Hatton , Min Woo Lee, Matt Fitzpatrick , and Paul Casey are able to catch Morikawa at the top.

Both Horschel and Morikawa could win overall even with fairly poor performances this week, depending on how the other one does, but the other four players in the running all have to win and also hope the American duo slip-up.

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2023 DP World Tour Championship
Rory McIlroy and Nicolai Hojgaard walked away the big winners from this week's DP World Tour Championship. McIlroy won the overall points title for the fifth time while Hojgaard was the winner of the Tour Championship with a 21-under total.
David Cannon
An already memorable 2023 season on the DP World Tour for Nicolai Hojgaard—in which he played in his first Ryder Cup—got even more so on Sunday at the DP World Tour Championship. The 22-year-old Dane closed out the final round at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai with a eight-under 64 to charge past overnight leader Matt Wallace and claim victory with a 21-under 267 performance, two shots better than Wallace, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland.
Hojgaard’s victory is the third of his career on the DP World Tour but his most lucrative. The first-place prize money payout was worth $3 million from an overall purse of $10.5 million. The payday from Sunday (€2,764,461 in Euros) amounts to more than 40 percent his entire career earnings to date on the DP World Tour (€6,380,134.75).
Here's the prize money payout for each golfer who competed in the DP World Tour’s season finale.

2020 Race to Dubai format: How it works, field sizes, tournaments
The Race to Dubai playoffs format has changed several times since the concept was introduced, and the Race to Dubai playoffs format that is now used started with the 2018-2019 European Tour season.
Explaining the Race to Dubai playoffs format means detailing how players earn Race to Dubai points, qualify for the final events to the DP World Tour Championship and then battle it out to see who wins the $2 million first-place prize.
2020 Race to Dubai playoff format
How to qualify.
As has been the case since the start of the Race to Dubai, the entire European Tour regular season leads to the Race to Dubai conclusion, with each official European Tour event offering points to players who made the 36-hole cut based on a standardized system related to the purse as quoted in US dollars. For each regular European Tour event, the winner earns a certain number Race to Dubai points. The four majors, World Golf Championships and the BMW Championship offer more points. Typically, the final three events all offer elevated points, but in 2020, only the DP World Tour Championship is played, and it offers 2,000 points to the winner of the event.
All of the points from regular season events are tallied together at the conclusion of the regular season, which this year came with the completion of both the South African Open and Golf in Dubai Championship. The top 60 players in the Race to Dubai standings at the end of those tournaments qualify for the Race to Dubai finale in the DP World Tour Championship. The top 110 players in points typically retain their status for the next season, but given the pandemic, those playing privileges have been extended by a year for 2019-2020 card holders.
The top 60 available players qualify for the DP World Tour Championship. In a twist this year, players in the top 75 in the Official World Golf Ranking who had not otherwise qualified are in the field, too.
The top five finishers in the Race to Dubai standings after the DP World Tour Championship claim a share of the bonus pool.
Race to Dubai playoff events and cuts
Typically, three Race to Dubai playoff events would be played (instead of what had been four). The Race to Dubai playoff events would normally whittle a field of 70 down to 50 for the final event at the Tour Championship. The points are increased by a factor from the regular season events, with a winner picking up 2,000 Race to Dubai points in the finale. Points typically earned in each of the first two legs of the playoffs are added to a player's regular season tally, with the field for subsequent playoff events determined on the combined points.
DP World Tour Championship format
Starting in 2019, the DP World Tour Championship format is a 72-hole, stroke-play tournament with no handicaps or cut. The player who wins the event earns 2,000 Race to Dubai points, and each player completing the event earns points. At the conclusion, the points leader wins the season-long race.
However, there remains great incentive to win the season-ending tournament. The winner's share from the $8 million purse is $3 million, with the remaining $5 million paid to the rest of the field using standard European Tour pay scales.
Win both the season finale and the season-long race, and a player claims a $5 million payday.

Who are the star names in the dp world tour championship.
The 15th edition of the DP World Tour Championship once again concludes the season-long Race to Dubai at the Earth Course of Jumeirah Golf Estates .
Unlike 2022, the winner of the Race to Dubai has already been confirmed – Rory McIlroy claimed the Harry Vardon trophy a week early after another successful season on the Tour for the 34-year-old that included victories in the Dubai Desert Classic and Genesis Scottish Open.
While the prize money the four-time Major winner will receive for topping the standings for the fifth time has yet to be confirmed, the victor for the last four years has picked up $2m from the Race to Dubai bonus pool of $5m.
Last year, Jon Rahm beat Tyrrell Hatton and Alex Noren by two shots to claim the DP World Tour Championship title for the third time. That handed him a $3m windfall from the $10m purse, and it has increased to $10.5m this year, albeit with the same amount on offer to the winner.
Perhaps unsurprisingly considering its status, the event has the largest prize fund of any DP World Tour event and $1.5m more than the other four Rolex Series events over the season.
The purse is also $2.1m more than that being offered by the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic this week, highlighting its position as one of the biggest tournaments in the calendar, even though that’s not reflected in the number of Official World Golf Ranking points available in it, which is fewer than the tournament at Sea Island .
While the winner will see a sizeable boost to his bank account, the payday for the runner-up will be considerable, too, at $1.275m.

Rory McIlroy has already claimed the Race to Dubai title
Other big names include six-time DP World Tour winner Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Kim, whose most recent start saw him claim victory at the Shriners Children’s Open. Major winner Shane Lowry and his Ryder Cup teammates Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard, Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre also play.
Some players also have their sights set on a PGA Tour card as those who finish in the top 10 of the Race to Dubai standings, not otherwise exempt, will claim 2024 PGA Tour exemptions.

For the first time since 2019, the Volvo China Open is returning to the DP World Tour schedule at Hidden Grace Golf Club in Shenzhen.
Organised by the China Golf Association and co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the China Tour, the tournament will showcase a diverse field of accomplished and rising stars from around the world of golf.
Home favourites Ashun Wu and Haotong Li are both teeing it up alongside fellow former champions Nicolas Colsaerts and Alexander Levy at the final stop of the Asian Swing.
Swede Jesper Svensson, a winner during the swing in Singapore last month, is also in action, as are established DP World Tour regulars such as Pablo Larrazábal and Jordan Smith.
If you have not done so already, you can sign up to play the official 2024 DP World Tour Fantasy game and submit your six-man team before round one gets under way on Thursday: https://fantasy.dpworldtour.com/
The 2024 season-long winner will win a trip to the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai next year, enjoy a lesson with a DP World Tour professional and a round of golf on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. For more information on this amazing prize and others, read here .
Here, we pick out three players in action this week who are worth considering for your Fantasy team selections.
Favourite - Jordan Smith
On track to qualify for next month's U.S. PGA Championship by virtue of his world ranking, the Englishman arrives in China lying 23rd on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex.
So far this season, Smith's best performance came at the Jonsson Workwear Open when he finished in a share of second in South Africa.
Another top 10 came at the start of the year when he finished solo fourth at the Dubai Invitational.
But it is his form in China on recent appearances at this event that make him our pick as Favourite, having notably finished in a tie for fifth at this week's venue in Shenzhen in 2019.
With just two missed cuts in his nine starts so far this season, it would be no surprise to see the 31-year-old play his way into contention for his third DP World Tour title and first since the Portugal Masters in 2022.
Form Horse - Sebastian Söderberg
With his second consecutive runner-up finish on the Asian Swing in Japan, the Swede climbed to eighth on the season-long Race to Dubai Rankings.
More notably, however, he climbed to the summit of the swing rankings and put himself in prime position to assure himself a spot in the field for next month's second Major Championship of the season.
Even before his back-to-back runner-up finishes in India and Japan, Söderberg has produced a series of notable performances so far this season.
The 33-year-old, who has climbed to a career-high 98th on the world rankings, finished in the top 10 in Mauritius, Ras Al Khaimah and Bahrain.
While he may have missed the cut in his only previous appearance at this event on this week's layout, he has been a picture of consistency so far this campaign and will hope to maintain his record of playing in every round possible on the 2024 Race to Dubai.
Wild Card - Alexander Levy
The Frenchman is the only player to have won the Volvo China Open twice since its inception in 1995.
Victory in 2014 at Hidden Grace Golf Club, formerly Genzon Golf Club, was his maiden success on the DP World Tour.
Since the second of his two triumphs at Topwin Golf & Country Club in 2017, he won his fifth and most recent DP World Tour title at the Trophée Hassan II in 2018.
After returning to action at the start of last year following a lengthy injury-enforced absence, Levy lost his DP World Tour card at the end of last season.
But he has enjoyed a strong start to life back on the Challenge Tour, with his fourth consecutive top 10 in the UAE Challenge over the weekend ensuring the 33-year is second on the Road to Mallorca Rankings ahead of playing this week on the DP World Tour.
Fantasy Insight: As it stands, Sebastian Söderberg is the favourite among players of our Fantasy Game this week , featuring in 60% of teams. Other popular players include Tom McKibbin (47%) and Yannik Paul (39%).
Li Haotong, who won his maiden DP World Tour title at this tournament in 2016, is the fourth most picked player from those in the field, featuring in 36% of Fantasy teams.
Looking back - ISPS - HANDA CHAMPIONSHIP
At the penultimate event of the Asian Swing, home hope Yuto Katsuragawa proved a surprise winner among Fantasy users as he delivered 213 points for the 2.2% of users that picked him.
Matthieu Pavon , our Favourite, finished in a tie for 28th as he scored 146 points.
Last week's Form Horse Jesper Svensson was unable to continue his good run of results on the DP World Tour as the European Challenge Tour graduate missed the cut in Japan.
There also wasn't much success for those who went with our Wild Card recommendation as Ryo Ishikawa missed out on the final two rounds on home soil.
Tom McKibbin climbed to fifth on the season-long Fantasy charts, racking up 164 points as the Northern Irishman recorded his third top five in his last five starts on the DP World Tour.
