Organized, committed, and sincere - these words describe the tour guides Ali Syed and Aamer Jaleel. 2 scholars Maulana Amjad and Mufti Azeem who give daily talks in Urdu and English respectively, 3 hot meals home cooked from the time we land, great accommodation in Aziziya during Hajj which is very close to Jamarat where we came on 10th zh and used private showers instead of public showers after removing our Ihraams, and great hotel in Makkah after the Hajj which included breakfast buffet. Ziyara in Madina included a local Madina resident who told us about 1400 sites in Madina which were still preserved today which was amazing. Highly recommend this group.

Yaseen Hajj & Umrah has provided great quality Hajj Service for the past few years. It has improved significantly and for the price that Hajj services are packaged at, it offers a lot more. The packages are caterered to land into Madinah first, completely bypassing jeddah altogether along with the requirement of landing in the state of Ihram. With a direct red-eye flight from chicago to jordan, then straight into Madina, the amount of time 'wasted' at airport transit times are reduced only to two hours in Amman. We reach Madina just in time for Tahajjud, with the hotels being right across from the Haram. When it is time to leave for Hajj, we get into Ihram and make Niyyah in Madina then depart for Makkah via Jeddah. Although the American tents are located almost 40 minute walk from Jamarat, it is not too bad. They served food at three meals a day throughout. We got into Arafat before Sunrise, and found a very nice spot for our tents, which we stayed for the course of the day. Leaving for Arafah this early immediatly after offering out Fajr Salaah, this alleviated getting stuck in any traffic that we heard nightmares about, and we left Arafah after 10pm and on the way to Muzdalifah, the same was observed as we made it in only 30 minutes time. The group areas are divided by maktab, or tent numbers which we are assigned upon arrival to Mina, and this kept things very organized in terms of our occupied areas. On the 13th of Zulhijjah, we came back to Makkah and stayed at top five star Zam Zam towers, which was first rated, right across gate #1, bab abdul-aziz for four days. IN general from what was heard amongst other groups, this group really went out of their way to make sure our comfort was not jeopardized, and although Hajj, is Hajj, this group made it so one of our main pillars of Islam was offered in the best possible way. Highly recommended!

Few would have looked at Yaseen Abdalla 's performances at the NCAA Championships over the last two years as anything but successful.

If you're good enough to reach an NCAA final, you've done something right.  

But that's not necessarily how he viewed things. 

"I got the perfect amount of failure," Abdalla said. "I'm a very stubborn guy, and I had a lot of bad habits. Bad habits about this, about that. I just think at the perfect time -- I got 11th this last outdoor nationals, 12th, 12th, 11th. Two years straight. Each is a gut punch ... You learn, 'I did this wrong' and it's different things every time." 

At the very least, however, Abdalla proved he could hang with anyone in the country.

So when the Sudan Olympic Committee reached out to Abdalla with an opportunity to represent the country with its universality entry at the Paris Olympics in the marathon, it did not take him long to become sold on the idea that he could do it. After all, he had fixed his previous training mistakes. Failure (perceived or not) had made him stronger. 

It didn't matter that the 23-year-old had never featured in a marathon before. 

"The marathon is just a race," said Abdalla, who's the son of Amira and Ahmed Abdalla and one of four brothers, all with Sudan heritage, his brothers with dual-nationality with the U.S.. "I think Alberto Salazar said that back when he ran his debut in the 80s and 90s. It's completely true." 

While born in the U.S., Abdalla had once felt the feeling of wearing the Sudan name on his chest. He had featured for his parents' country in 2022 at the World Championships in Eugene. 

"I did one interview (before the Olympic marathon). I said, 'The U.S., they'll allow you to represent them, whereas Sudan, they want you to represent them." 

Abdalla silenced the doubters on August 10, clocking a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 41 seconds for 26.2 miles, finishing 33rd overall. He was the second finisher under the age of 25 and the youngest in the top 35. 

He was the youngest marathoner, in fact, outright, and one of three racers competing the age of 23.

"I was just jogging around the beautiful streets of Paris, with the GOATs, the best runners of all-time all around me. Kipchoge here. Bekele here. Cam Levins here. Bashir Abdi here. I was like, 'Super cool.'"

How He Accomplished The Feat

What's more, Abdalla secured that feature debut on a dogged course, one that showcased high grades over the second half and more than its fair share of quad-busting hills, including one incredible elevation gain from the 15th- to the 20th-kilometer, which netted out to a 436 meter climb. 

"Some people hit that hill and then blew up a mile later," Abdalla said. "Some people hit that hill and then blew up five miles later. They all blew up, I think I passed 20 people from the bottom of that hill to the end." 

To get there, Abdalla planned out a shorter build consisting of roughly eight weeks sometime beginning in June before the NCAA Outdoor Championships. 

"It came right after making nationals outdoor," he said. "So it's not like I was starting from zero, and I know what my strengths are like. My strength has always been the aerobic side." 

He ran one long run every other week and kept every single run outside of those inside an hour. His focus never wavered, he said, because he had grown accustomed to heavy volume in college, like 20-by-1-kilometer interval sessions and long runs of 20 miles at Tennessee. His marathon training was no stark change. 

"I think I got really lucky where I was ready to capitalize on the opportunity," he said. 

When it came time for marathon day, Abdalla said he made sure to adjust. He moderated his effort over the hills, then made sure to execute on the downhills and straightaways. In the meantime, he enjoyed the elite competition around him. 

Special Significance

Abdalla's finish was massive for another reason, too. He's still in college. 

The University of Arkansas transfer, one-time national champion (DMR, '22) and three-time All-American will spend his last two years of eligibility with the Razorbacks over the cross country and indoor track and field seasons. 

How often do NCAA athletes compete in the Olympic Marathon? 

The answer is seldom, if ever. 

Abdalla will make his debut for Arkansas this year after stints with Tennessee and Texas. He was an All-American in cross country for the Volunteers in 2022, finishing 33rd, and once more for the Longhorns, crossing the line in 32nd in 2021. He blew up on a difficult Charlottesville course in 2023, finishing 187th. 

What's missing is a podium finish, or even a national championship. 

While Abdalla will have recover from the marathon in time to contribute to an Arkansas team that looks loaded to content for a national title on grass, that ask isn't out of the question. 

"This last (cross country and track) season is to give myself a shot to see, 'OK, I think it was just the training piece I finally put together,'" Abdalla said. "If I put down some crazy times and finally perform well at the championships, then it's like, 'OK, I was right.' The training, I just finally figured it out."

But Abdalla, who runs a fast-growing YouTube channel about his life and training, isn't ruling out a return to the marathon even before the next year is out. 

He could see himself putting another training block heading toward a potential fall marathon in 2025. After his debut in Paris, he felt a rough conversion to his time was about three-to-four minutes. That would put him in 2:08 territory. 

"Definitely will keep everyone posted on YouTube," he said.

Mom of Chicago woman missing from Bahamas yoga retreat details ‘unsettling' visit to island

Family and friends of taylor casey, a chicago woman who went missing during a bahamas yoga retreat, called their trip to the island to meet with investigators and program leaders "deeply unsettling", by nbc chicago staff • published july 2, 2024 • updated on july 2, 2024 at 7:56 pm.

Close friends and family of Taylor Casey, a Chicago woman who disappeared while attending a yoga retreat in the Bahamas , slammed program leaders and investigators in a newly released statement, calling their actions "disturbing and infuriating" as Casey remains missing for a second week.

“Let me make this clear to the U.S. media, the public, and our government officials: We are not satisfied with how this investigation has been handled thus far," Casey's friend Emily Williams said in the statement, which was released Monday.

According to the statement, Williams and Collete Seymore, Casey's mother,  had recently returned to the states from The Bahamas  where they met with the U.S. Embassy, the Royal Bahamas Police Force and leadership at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, the program Casey was attending when she was reported missing.

"What we learned and observed during our time meeting with the authorities and Ashram leaders is disturbing and infuriating,” Williams' statement went on to say.

In a statement, the retreat said it reported Casey missing when she didn't attend her morning classes. The group said it was working with authorities on an investigation into Casey's disappearance.

According to the statement, the group representing Casey visited the retreat, located in Paradise Island, Nassau, to collect Casey's belongings on June 27, seven days after police announced that Casey, 41, had gone missing .

The statement goes on to say that Casey's room and personal items -- which included a bible, a teacher training coursebook, yoga practice materials and clothing -- appeared to be "largely unprocessed by local authorities."

The group went on to describe their visit to the retreat center as "deeply unsettling."

“It became apparent to us when we met with the Sivananda Ashram leaders that they were struggling to keep a linear and cohesive narrative regarding Taylor’s disappearance,” Williams' statement said.

The statement alleged that the contingent representing Casey were continually advised by the police to not speak to any guests at the retreat, leading them to believe that "maintaining the tranquility and comfort of the tourism experience" had taken precedence over the disappearance of Casey, a missing attendee.

In the statement, Seymore said she had to "beg" to talk to students, who then appeared to share rehearsed information. The statement also said that not all students at the retreat were made aware of Casey's disappearance, and that no "missing persons" posters had been found on the retreat grounds or surrounding areas.

Seymore and Williams' statement went on to say that police requested retreat participants submit statements regarding Casey, but that police would not specify whether any had been interrogated, and declined to share how many statements were collected.

The statement also described an event in which a manager of the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat said that that two days before Casey's disappearance, an "unidentified man with a walk-talkie" was seen walking near the area where Casey's tent was located.

A retreat participant also told the group that on the day of Casey's disappearance, she been approached by the same man while sitting alone.

"The unidentified man was wearing a Celtics baseball cap and dressed in all black," the statement said. "He claimed he was from Chicago and was interested in taking a yoga class. He proceeded to follow her onto the property."

Upon learning of Casey's disappearance, some program participants opted to leave early, the statement said. Following their visit to the retreat center, Williams and Seymore also changed their flights to return home earlier than planned after they "became concerned for their own safety," citing "conditions and narrative control at the Ashram," the statement said.

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago's request for comment regarding the allegations from Williams and Seymour.

When Taylor Casey was reported missing

On June 25, five days after Casey, 41, was reported missing by police, organizers of the yoga program posted a message to Facebook saying Casey's disappearance was discovered on June 20 "when she did not attend morning classes."

"A participant from our yoga certification program, Taylor Casey is missing," The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat posted on Facebook last week . "She was last seen at the retreat late on the evening of June 19th."

The statement, also emailed to NBC Chicago, went on to request that anyone with information on Casey's whereabouts contact local police.

"The Ashram is working with authorities in their investigation." the statement said. "Your assistance is greatly appreciated."

A similar message was emailed on June 27 to yoga retreat attendees.

"We advised Taylor's family, the US embassy and the police of the situation at the end of the day on June 20, and we continue to collaborate with everyone involved," the email obtained by NBC Chicago read in part. "At the same time, please rest assured that your safety and security is our top priority and that appropriate measures are in place to ensure your well-being."

What is the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat?

The retreat, on Paradise Island in Nassau, is described as a "vibrant yoga ashram offering vacations, courses, and teacher trainings as well as cleanses, detox programs, healing arts trainings, family programs, kirtan and more," according to the group's Facebook page.

Visitors are able to rent a variety of accommodations when staying at the Ashram, including rooms, huts and tents, the group's website showed .

Earlier this year, the retreat was featured as part of a " Wellness Retreats & Destination Spas " guide from Goop, Gwyneth Paltrow's luxury brand and website.

The retreat issued the following statement Tuesday evening:

" All of us are distraught over Taylor’s disappearance, and our hearts go out to her family and friends.. With that in mind, I wish to advise you that we did our best to provide Taylor’s mother and friends with support and comfort while they were in the Bahamas last week. We met with them along with the police and the representatives of the US embassy on two occasions – once at police headquarters and once at the ashram. Taylor’s family and friends stayed at the ashram for many hours after the end of the official meeting to collect her belongings and speak with Taylor’s teachers, fellow students and administrators.

To be clear, the police advised us that while we can encourage community members to speak with them, it must be their choice. So we announced their presence to Taylor’s classmates and teachers and invited anyone wanting to meet with them to come forward.  Many of our community members chose to speak with them and the ashram did not intervene in terms of what individuals said.  They were encouraged to speak freely.  Any perceived hesitancy could have been due to their own grieving processes. 

At the end of the afternoon, Taylor’s mother and friends thanked us profusely for our help. "

'I feel like police did the bare minimum'

Monday's statement from Casey's family and friends also criticized the actions of investigators and police in the Bahamas, saying they provided incomplete information and demonstrated a "lack of serious attention" to the case.

For example, the statement said, while Bahamas National Security Minister Wayne Munroe told reporters the FBI was involved in the search, U.S. Embassy officials told Seymore otherwise.

"What this means is the police made a claim to the public that is not true," Seymore said in the statement. "This makes me question everything they said.”

During a local press conference, Nassau Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said that drones, a canine unit and divers had been used in their "extensive" search for Casey, noting that officials canvassed both the island and the area around it. However, family and friends were informed that the search was conducted only between the yoga retreat and the Atlantis resort, an area that spans approximately 3.8 kilometers.

And, though Casey's cellphone was located in the ocean and recovered, police have declined to turn the phone over to family, the statement said.

“I believe that phone may have information we need on there,” Seymore said in the statement.

The statement also contends that the Atlantis security team, rather than the Bahamas Police Force, were the agency that reviewed any surveillance video found.

'This is every mother's worst nightmare'

According to the statement, family and friends spoke with FBI officials on June 29, upon their return from the island. However, the U.S. has not intervened in the case, the statement said.

“I had to return home without her," Seymore said. This is every mother’s worst nightmare. I felt an urgent need to return because without U.S. government support, we may never find out what happened to my Taylor.” 

Hours before the statement from Seymore and Williams was released, Chicago police issued a "missing persons" bulletin for Casey.

"If you have had any recent direct contact or correspondence with the missing above, or if you have any information regarding the current whereabouts of the missing please contact Area 5 Special Victims Unit immediately at (312) 746-6554," the bulleting stated.

While the alert was issued several days after her disappearance was first reported in the Bahamas, police said Casey's family filed the missing person reporte with them over the weekend.

U.S. Travel Advisory issued for The Bahamas

In January, the U.S. issued a " Level 2" Travel Advisory for the Bahamas , warning that travelers should "exercise increased caution in The Bahamas due to crime."

"The majority of crime occurs on New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) islands," the advisory said. "Violent crime, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas. Be vigilant when staying at short-term vacation rental properties where private security companies do not have a presence. "

The Nassau Guardian said Director General of Tourism Latia Duncombe addressed the travel advisory last week.

“The destination is safe and we have to make sure visitors do feel safe when they visit the Bahamas," Duncombe said. "Whenever there is an odd occurrence, it does increase concern and we want to make sure we address it in a very measured way.”

Chicago is one of the best cities for train travel. Sixteen Amtrak routes arrive and depart from Chicago Union Station , so there are many options for day, weekend or multiple-day getaways. Here are some of the best trip options listed in order of travel time so you can start planning your rail adventure. Destinations were selected based on convenient train departure times and unique things to see and do.

For a day or overnight trip, travel to Milwaukee on the Hiawatha Amtrak route. Travel time is about 1.5 hours, and you’ll arrive near the Historic Third Ward neighborhood and the RiverWalk. There are several museums and a zoo to explore, including the Harley-Davidson Museum, which is in walking distance of the Amtrak station. You can also go to a sporting event, visit the many breweries or attend one of the city’s many festivals .

St. Joseph/Benton Harbor

Escape the city and experience Lake Michigan from the charming towns of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor via the Pere Marquettte Amtrak route. In addition to beaches and parks, explore the Sarett Nature Center , Silver Beach Carousel and wineries. This trip from Chicago is only two hours, but you’ll need to stay at least one night in Michigan as there is only one train each day.

Springfield

Book a trip on the Texas Eagle or Lincoln Service to visit Springfield , the Illinois capital. Major attractions here include the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum , Lincoln Home National Historic Site, Illinois State Museum and various other historic homes and parks. If you plan to do a day trip, you’ll have about six hours to explore if you choose the morning departure from Chicago and evening departure from Springfield.

Wisconsin Dells

A great destination for kids, the Wisconsin Dells is full of water parks , theme parks, wildlife parks and outdoor activities . It’s approximately a four-hour train ride from Chicago on the Empire Builder , with an arrival around dinnertime. Plan to stay two nights in order to have a full day to visit the local attractions. You can walk to several hotels and motels near the Amtrak station ( White Rose Inn s and Alpine Motel are two of the top-rated places to stay) or check out hotels with shuttles (verify service with the hotels before booking).

About 5.5 hours away from Chicago by train, St. Louis is known for the Gateway Arch , but there are many other things to see and do. Some of the top attractions include the Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art Museum, Mississippi River and Busch Stadium. There are multiple trains to choose from each day, so a day trip is doable, but due to the longer travel time, you may want to stay overnight in St. Louis .

Minneapolis/St. Paul

Minneapolis and St. Paul are full of cultural attractions, sport venues and outdoor activities — including a  scenic bike trail  along the Mississippi River,  Chain of Lakes recreation  and a beautiful  urban park with a waterfall . If you don’t like cold weather, plan to visit between May and September, although the  Saint Paul Winter Carnival  is a historic event worth checking out. Travel time from Chicago is almost eight hours.

Niagara Falls

Visit the majestic Niagara Falls with a getaway on Amtrak’s Lake Shore Limited route. This is an overnight trip with a morning arrival in Buffalo, New York. Roomettes and bedrooms are available for a more comfortable and private experience on the train. Travel time is 10 hours, and you’ll be sleeping most of that time.

On the return trip to Chicago, the Lake Shore Limited departs Buffalo around midnight, which means you can spend the day sightseeing and get back on the train same day instead of staying at a hotel.

You’ll need to rent a car or use a taxi or rideshare service to reach downtown Buffalo and the Niagara Falls area — both have hotels if you plan to stay overnight. An Enterprise rental car office is near the Amtrak station. Call ahead to confirm pickup from the Amtrak station. The falls are about a 40-minute drive away from the train station and 30 minutes from Enterprise. FlixBus also departs from downtown Buffalo and travels to the Niagara Falls State Park .

About 10.5 hours away from Chicago, Memphis is full of music and iconic places. It’s a party every night on Beale Street , and during the day you can visit Graceland, Sun Studio, the National Civil Rights Center and other tourist sites . When you aren’t sightseeing, eat the city’s famous barbecue or go on a top-rated food tour .

The Greenbrier Resort

Travel through the beautiful New River Gorge on the Cardinal route to reach The Greenbrier , a 1778 resort with casino. The Cardinal only operates three days each week, so you will need to stay more than one night, but there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. In addition to the casino, there is a spa, golf course, swimming pools, bike rentals, bowling alley, fishing, aerial adventure course and more. Travel time is about 17 hours from Chicago, and the White Sulphur Springs Amtrak Station is conveniently next to the resort, so you don’t have to rent a car.

Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. is about 17 hours away from Chicago via the Capitol Limited route. The train departs Chicago around dinnertime and arrives at D.C. Union Station in early afternoon. At the station you can transfer to WMATA subway trains for easy access to museums , monuments and hotels. Taxi and rideshare cars are also options for getting around. New York City

Be a part of the city that never sleeps with trip to New York City . Travel time is between 19 and 20 hours on the Lake Shore Limited Amtrak route, with an arrival at the new Penn Station train hall in the evening. Penn Station has connections to the MTA subway and you can easily walk to the Empire State Building and Times Square . If you plan to see a Broadway Show, you’ll need to stay two nights in the city and use your first night to get settled at your hotel and see any attractions that aren’t at a scheduled time (in case there are train delays).

New Orleans

Plan a trip to New Orleans for amazing food, music and culture. The City of New Orleans train departs Chicago in the evening and arrives 20 hours later in the afternoon. The return train departs each day in the afternoon, so you could stay one night in New Orleans and have time to see some of the sights. Attractions to check out include the National World War II Museum , Garden District, French Quarter and historic cemeteries. There are also boat tours and streetcars for sightseeing.

Eat lobster, drink local craft beer and relive American Revolution history in Boston . The Freedom Trail is a must-do. Travel time is 21-22 hours to and from Boston’s South Station on the Lake Shore Limited route, with an evening departure from Chicago and evening arrival in Boston. You can also book your Amtrak ticket to the Back Bay Station, which is closer to Fenway Park and Copley Place shopping mall.

September and October are great months to visit, along with the summer months. Plan to stay two nights in the city, otherwise, you’ll basically only have one morning to see the sights before the daily early afternoon train back to Chicago.

Rocky Mountains

The California Zephyr is arguably the most scenic Amtrak route, especially the journey through the Rocky Mountains along the Colorado River (pictured above). There are multiple Amtrak stations in the Rockies with lodging and activities so you can enjoy time there before returning to Chicago.

If you love skiing, book your Amtrak ticket to Fraser/Winter Park (21-hour trip) and hit the slopes at the popular Winter Park Resort . Glenwood Springs (25 hours from Chicago and pictured top of page), is another great option with hotels and a hot springs pool in walking distance of the Amtrak station. There are also hiking trails, whitewater rafting, an amusement park and the Frontier Historical Museum to explore.

When the weather gets cold in Chicago, head to Texas on the Texas Eagle to explore Dallas or Austin . Dallas is 22 hours away from Chicago by train and Austin is 28. Both have surprisingly walkable areas near the Amtrak stations, light rail transit and rental car options.

In Dallas, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza , the site of his assassination and the Sixth Floor Museum are all in walking distance of the Dallas Amtrak Station . There are also many other museums and an aquarium nearby, or rent a car to reach the George W. Bush Presidential Library and the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.

For a vacation full of music, nightlife and outdoor recreation, travel to Austin. There are many parks along the Colorado River to explore, boat rentals and tours, kayaking, paddleboarding, festivals, and live entertainment on 6th Street .

Albuquerque

Albuquerque is 26 hours away from Chicago on the Southwest Chief . It’s New Mexico’s largest city, plus you’ll travel through mountains on the way there. Top attractions include Sandia Peak Tramway for gorgeous panoramic views, Indian Pueblo Cultural Center , National Museum of Nuclear Science and the Petroglyph National Monument . There’s also plenty of things to check out near the Amtrak station, including a zoo , botanic garden , Old Town Albuquerque , and trails along the Rio Grande River. Consider planning your trip around the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta , which is a major event in the fall.

Glacier National Park

Take Amtrak to Glacier National Park on the Empire Builder to see stunning landscapes and relax in a historic inn. There are four train stations near the park to choose from, each with unique lodging options. East Glacier Park is the first stop, about 30 hours away from Chicago, and you can walk to the Glacier Park Lodge from the station. Next is Essex Station, which is next to the historic Izaak Walton Inn . West Glacier Station is the third station near the park, with the West Glacier Village, the 1910 Belton Chalet and other lodges in walking distance. Or get off the train in Whitefish if you want to rent a car or stay in an area near restaurants.

Los Angeles

Travel to Los Angeles for a 43-hour, two-night trip on the entire length of the Southwest Chief Amtrak route. You’ll travel though mountains and deserts and arrive at the beautiful Los Angeles Union Station in the morning. There’s plenty to see and do in the city, including the Getty Center , Griffith Observatory , Hollywood Sign , Santa Monica Pier , theme parks, tours, shopping and beaches. If you don’t want to take Amtrak back to Chicago, there are plenty of direct flights to choose from.

Portland and Seattle

Last, but not least, is the full long-distance trip on the Empire Builder . You have the choice to travel from Chicago to either Portland or Seattle . Both options offer amazing scenery, with views of the Columbia River Gorge on the Portland route, or travel along Puget Sound and multiple rivers on the Seattle segment. You’ll also see the Rocky Mountains in Montana if you book your trip around the summer solstice. Total travel time is 46 hours, with two nights on the train. You can easily get a flight back to Chicago in Portland or Seattle to shorten the return trip.

24 Hours in Chicago for First-Timers

You’ve arrived at your hotel and you’re ready to spend some time sightseeing. Great! We have an itinerary that will give you the best of Chicago’s landmarks with options to see and do more.

Chicago is a big city, so if this is your first time here, you’ll want to see what everyone has been talking about!

8:00 – 10:00 -> Breakfast

Start your day in the city center with breakfast at one of Chicago’s charming spots. If you’re looking for a unique experience, consider grabbing a coffee at Millennium Park before you head to breakfast. This green space is a great place to enjoy the morning.

12:30 PM to 1:30 PM -> Souvenir Shopping

When you return, be sure to stop by the Chicago Cultural Center , it’s a beautiful building that was a former Chicago Public Library. It’s a great spot to experience some of Chicago’s history and architecture.

After your tour, take a short walk to the Magnificent Mile , where you can find some of the best places to get Chicago souvenirs . You can find great deals at any of the following stores:

When it’s time for lunch, you can’t visit Chicago without trying its famous deep-dish pizza. Lou Malnati’s at 410 N Michigan Avenue is the perfect place to indulge in this delicious food. It’s within a 10 minute walk from the first Chicago bus tour stop on Wacker.

Not in the mood for pizza? Chicago has plenty of great options nearby, including eateries along the Chicago Riverwalk . Here are a few more options within a 10-minute walk.

2:30 to 5:00 PM -> Art Institute of Chicago

Navy Pier is a must-see for any Chicago visitor. Consider catching a show at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater or taking a boat tour to enjoy the city skyline from the water. 24 Hours in Chicago Off the Beaten Path

For those who’ve already seen the main attractions, we’ve have an itinerary that takes you off the beaten path, showcasing Chicago’s hidden gems and local favorites in the Windy City.

You still won’t need a car in Chicago with this itinerary, the public transportation system will get you to every destination (and we’ll tell you how).

For a classic Chicago breakfast experience that’s beloved by locals, start your day at Lou Mitchell’s in the West Loop, a Chicago institution that’s famous for its hearty breakfasts. It’s a great spot to experience local flavor and history.

This is what makes it special. Located at 565 W Jackson Blvd, Lou Mitchell’s is a Chicago institution that’s been serving hearty breakfasts since 1923. 10:00 – Noon -> Garfield Park Conservatory

This beautiful botanical garden is often overlooked by tourists. It features stunning plant collections in several themed rooms, including the Palm House and the Desert House. It’s free to visit and offers a peaceful start to your day.

To get there from Lou Mitchell’s, walk north on Clinton St to the Clinton Station to catch the CTA Green line west, exit at the Garfield Park Conservatory station . The conservatory is on the north side of the street and less than a 5-minute walk from the station.

Noon PM to 4:00 PM -> Lunch & Museum

Next, head back on the CTA L at the Conservatory station and travel east towards downtown, then exit at Ashland station. DO NOT leave the platform. You’ll want to cross over to the other side to catch another train.

Instead of the Green line, board the Pink line that is on the north side of the platform and head to the Pilsen neighborhood (18th Street station).

And you can’t visit this neighborhood without visiting one of the best restaurants in the area.

For lunch, head to where you can enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine at 5 Rabanitos Restaurante and Taqueria (1758 W 18th St). Afterward, visit the National Museum of Mexican Art, one of the best things to do in this culturally vibrant neighborhood.

• Carnitas Uruapan at 1725 W 18th St (a 5-minute walk from the CTA station)
• Taqueria Los Comales at 1544 W 18th St (a 10-minute walk from the CTA station)

From the station, it is a 7-minute walk to the National Museum of Mexican Art, located at 1852 W 19th St. Admission is free.

The museum is a great cultural institution that showcases Mexican, Latino, and Chicano art and culture.

4:00 PM to 9:00 PM -> Fulton Market

Next, we’ll visit a neighborhood that has become Chicago’s trendy culinary and entertainment hotspot.

To get there, board the CTA Pink line at the 18th Street station and head east, then exit at the Morgan station.

Spend your evening in the trendy Fulton Market district, where you’ll find some of Chicago’s hottest spots for dining and entertainment.

Check out Punch Bowl Social for a mix of games, food, and drinks in a lively atmosphere. Punch Bowl Social has a variety of entertainment options under one roof, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. This large venue combines dining, drinking, and games in a lively, retro-inspired atmosphere.

The space features multiple areas for different activities.
