This past weekend, BRIT FLOYD re-launched their 2023 multi-city “50 Years of Dark Side Tour” of North America. Known as The World’s Greatest Pink Floyd Experience, the group will follow this year’s dates with a massive 2024 world tour. It’s a 90-city tour of North America, plus shows in 45 cities in the UK, and Europe to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s Pulse and The Division Bell albums. More details about the 2024 dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

The fall 2023 50 Years of Dark Side tour features over two and a half hours of Pink Floyd music encompassing the band’s iconic career. BRIT FLOYD’s team have created a show that includes state-of-the-art visuals (lights, lasers, and animation) which are all presented with immersive soundscapes and virtuosic musicianship. When the tour wraps, the 50 Years of Dark Side trek will have encompassed more than 108 dates with return stops in many markets, alongside first-ever performances in other markets. The Dark Side Of The Moon, released in 1973, is one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time and includes Pink Floyd’s iconic single "Money."

Formed in 2011, Brit Floyd consists of performances supported by an immense, immaculately curated state-of-the-art production, reverently emulating the stunning soundscapes and visuals of Pink Floyd’s iconic catalog. Brit Floyd is a celebration of authenticity, featuring musicians handpicked by Damian Darlington. 27th February 2023 – The city of Frankfurt on Friday announced that it was canceling the forthcoming concert of former Pink Floyd vocalist Roger Waters scheduled for May 28th 2023

A statement from the Central Council of German further urged venues in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Cologne hosting Waters’ “This is Not A Drill 2023” tour to reconsider however at the moment of writing no further German dates have been cancelled.

25th September 2022 – R oger Waters’ concerts in Poland have been canceled after he commented on the war in Ukraine. Krakow City Council has said it will discuss declaring the Pink Floyd musician “persona non grata.”

Concerts by Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters have been canceled by a venue in the Polish city of Krakow, organizers said on Sunday after the artist’s comments on the war in Ukraine sparked a storm of criticism.

“Live Nation Polska and Tauron Arena Krakow have canceled Roger Waters’ concert,” organizers said in a statement on the venue’s website. However, they did not elaborate on the reason for the cancellation.

On Saturday, state news agency PAP reported that a spokesman for Tauron Arena said Waters’ management had canceled the concert without giving a reason.

Waters was due to perform in Krakow in April 2023, but Polish media reports of an open letter he wrote earlier this month to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska sparked backlash.

In the letter, Waters said the West should stop providing arms to Ukraine, accusing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of allowing “extreme nationalism” in Ukraine and urging him to “put an end to this deadly war.”

Poland counts itself among Kyiv’s most loyal allies, and public support for the Ukrainian cause is very high.

The Krakow city council is scheduled to debate a motion on Wednesday that would declare Waters “persona non grata.” One of the councillors, Lukasz Wantuch, had urged city residents to boycott the Waters concerts.

“Roger Waters, an open supporter of Putin, wants to play in Krakow … It would be shameful for our city,” Wantuch said earlier on social media. “Let him sing in Moscow.”

In a social media post, Waters denied that he or his management had canceled the concerts and criticized Wantuch, accusing him of “draconian censoring of my work.”

“Lukasz Wantuch seems to know nothing of my history of working, all my life, at some personal cost, in the service of human rights,” Waters said.

Paraphrasing the words of his hit single “Another Brick in the Wall”, Waters also wrote: “Hey! Lukasz Wantuch! ‘Leave them Kids Alone!'”.

He said he had only wanted to urge the countries involved “to work towards a negotiated peace rather than escalate matters towards a bitter end.”

Wantuch said in a Facebook post on Sunday morning that he was in Ukraine and would respond to Waters’ statement in the evening.

The Pink Floyd Experience 2023

The Dark Side of the Moon

50 th Anniversary Tour

2023 commemorates the year that half a century ago, Pink Floyd released their landmark album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Not only would it become Pink Floyd’s most commercially successful album, but also one of the world’s biggest selling albums of all time.

For many listeners, this was the album that introduced them to and would define the sound of Pink Floyd. A seamless 42 minutes of exquisite compositions featuring extended instrumental solos, peppered with unusual sound effects and haunting voices. Exploring concepts such as mental illness, time, death and greed while introducing new technology, the Dark Side of the Moon was to become one of the most critically acclaimed albums in history. Reaching 14 times platinum it would remain on the US Billboard charts for 965 weeks with estimated sales of over 45 million copies.

The Pink Floyd Experience have behind them 25 years of paying the highest respect, creating and performing Pink Floyd themed shows to sell out audiences throughout Australasia and South Africa.

The Pink Floyd Experience invite you to celebrate this 50 th Anniversary milestone as they embark on another tour of these beautiful shores. This show promises to be just as spectacular as anything they’ve done before. The musicians, lighting, sound, projections and special effects all delivered in true Pink Floyd style.

Outstanding music performed to the absolute highest standards giving patrons a truly exhilarating and memorable experience.   Each time I have seen TPFE just reinforces just how good this band is ... and when they play Comfortably Numb, I lose myself to the lyrics and the stunning music. Mere words cannot express just how good this band is ... do yourself a massive favour and treat yourself to a wonderful music experience that will remain with you for years to come.

"Outstanding world-class act. There is nothing more I can add to this description."
"When you think over the years you couldn't possibly get any better! This Overwhelming Phenomenal Amazing Show and Highly Skilled Talent just Blows your mind yet again. Pink Floyd lovers should never miss this!! Thank you So Much!!!! Best Experience Ever!!!! You guys ROCK!!"
"Outstanding!! Superb Sound, Fantastic visuals Just a 100% Brilliant Show"
"First ever experience.... more than just a concert, it's an all inspiring performance! Truly awesome!"

In the time since, Gilmour has taken various novel measure to market the album including hiding lyrics to various tracks in local newspapers around the U.K. While attempting to channel attention toward a new release is par for the course, Gilmour has been particularly vocal about his affinity for the new work, notably referring to the Luck and Strange as “the best album I’ve made since [Pink Floyd’s iconic]  Dark Side of the Moon in 1973.”

David Gilmour, Luck and Strange review: The next best thing to a Pink Floyd reunion

The fifth solo album from the band's guitar wizard is a love letter to the glory days of prog rock.

As the fallout from Oasis’s smash-and-grab reunion tour continues, Pink Floyd fans can console themselves that the prog icons would never tarnish their legacy in a similar fashion. The bad blood between the band’s twin lodestars, David Gilmour and Roger Waters, is such that they’d never reform in the first place – let alone stay in the same room long enough to agree ticket prices.

But if a Floyd comeback remains off the table, Gilmour – chilled guitar wizard to Waters’ baleful, bass-playing dark lord – has given us the next best thing. Inspired by lockdown live sessions recorded with his family, his satisfyingly windswept fifth solo album Luck and Strange taps into the majestic weirdness that propelled his former band from hippy sideshow to one of the defining voices of their generation.

The bombastic melancholy of Floyd touchstones The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are conjured on opener “Black Cat” and on the seven-minute title track that immediately follows. Both are effective showcases for Gilmour’s elevated noodling – a style both epic and languid, wide-screen and intimate.

Sprucing up “Luck and Strange” with his breathy singing, Gilmour (78) sounds like a druidic Leonard Cohen or a grizzled Jarvis Cocker. Evocative lyrics by his wife, the novelist Polly Samson, add diaristic grit and draw a vivid portrait of Gilmour’s postwar childhood (“It was a fine time to be born/De-mob happy street and free milk for us all”).

Fat Dog’s album Woof is delirious, uneven – and downright annoying

Fat Dog's album Woof is delirious, uneven - and downright annoying

That Gilmour would so enthusiastically evoke Floyd’s glory days may surprise anyone staying abreast of the story of Luck and Strange . He made it with the indie producer Charlie Andrew, who is best known for his work with nerdy Radiohead soundalikes Alt-J. Part of the appeal, said Gilmour, was that Andrew did not have a deep grasp of the Floyd catalogue. “He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that.”

The implication that Luck and Strange represents a daring new chapter for Gilmour doesn’t carry through to the music, however. After flexing his prog muscles on the first two songs, he taps into the folk horror psychedelia of early Floyd on “The Piper’s Call” – the title surely a wink to Floyd’s 1967 debut, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn , and the madcap whimsy of their original frontman Syd Barrett.

The one genuine surprise is a cover of “Between Two Points” by the late-1990s dream-pop duo the Montgolfier Brothers (a discovery of Oasis’s original champion, Alan McGee). Featuring gauzy vocals by Gilmour’s 22-year-old daughter Romany, the tune suggests a long-lost indie fragment from the era of cassette mixtapes and Select magazine. It’s a shoegazey nugget chucked on to a record that otherwise functions as a love letter to the glory days of progressive rock. We’re never getting that Floyd reunion – but this engaging album might be the next best thing.

Pink Floyd Guitarist David Gilmour Says He Felt “Thrust into” Being a Frontman; Prefers “a More Collaborative” Situation

Matt Friedlander

Updated:

During his initial heyday with Pink Floyd , guitarist David Gilmour shared the spotlight, and lead vocal duties, with bassist Roger Waters, and sometimes with keyboardist Rick Wright. After Waters left the group in 1985, though, Gilmour became Pink Floyd’s sole frontman, and he’s remained the center of attention throughout his subsequent solo career.

In a new interview with U.K. tabloid The Sun , the 78-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer admitted that he’s more comfortable being a member of a musical collective than fronting a group.

[Buy David Gilmour Concert Tickets]

“I was thrust into being band leader of Pink Floyd and, later, into being a solo artist,” he noted. “But I feel a more collaborative approach is better for me.”

Gilmour is preparing to release his fifth solo studio album this Friday, September 6, Luck and Strange .

David has shared in multiple recent interviews that he feels Luck and Strange is the best work he’s done since Pink Floyd’s classic 1973 concept album The Dark Side of the Moon .

[RELATED: David Gilmour Discusses His Family’s Contributions to Upcoming Solo Album in New Making-Of Documentary Feature]

“There’s a wholeness to it that I can’t pin down,” he told The Sun . “It goes all the way through without any concept album bulls—.”

He added that he and his wife and longtime lyricist, Polly Samson, “listen to it all the time, mostly on car journeys, and we haven’t tired of it. That, I can tell you, is unusual!”

Gilmour Appreciated the Collaborative Nature of Luck and Strange

Perhaps Gilmour’s amplified affinity for Luck and Strange has to do with just how wide-ranging a collaborative project it was. Besides continuing his close songwriting partnership with Samson, Gilmour tapped the vocal and harp skills of his daughter Romany and lyrical talents of his son Charlie.

Luck and Strange also saw David working with a new co-producer, Charlie Andrew, whom he credits with bringing a fresh approach to making the record.

“He had total lack of knowledge of Pink Floyd and the side of the music industry that I come from,” Gilmour explained about Andrew, who’s best known for his work with British indie-rock act Alt-J. “Charlie was refreshingly blunt with some of his opinions. He was brilliant.”

Gilmour also enlisted a variety of musicians, many of whom he’d never worked with before, including lauded session drummer Steve Gadd.

Another important aspect to the sound of Luck and Strange was inventive and unique orchestral and choir arrangements by Will Gardner.

“He’s a genius—with a very unusual mind!” Gilmour about Gardner enthused to The Sun .

Gilmour’s 2024 Tour Plans

As previously reported, Gilmour will launch a 2024 tour in support of Luck and Strange later in September. The trek kicks off with a six-date engagement in Rome that runs from September 27 through October 3. David then will play six shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London, scheduled from October 9 through October 15.

After that, Gilmour will head to the U.S. He’ll play an October 25 show at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, followed by October 29, 30, and 31 concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. David’s confirmed 2024 itinerary wraps up with five shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City scheduled from November 4 to November 10.

Tickets for Gilmour’s concerts can be purchased now via a variety of outlets, including StubHub .

L'album che cambiò la visione della musica di Roger Waters

pink floyd history tour 2023

Tre brani di “Music From Big Pink” sono firmati da Bob Dylan: “Tears of rage” insieme a Richard Manuel, “This wheel's on fire” con Rick Danko e, infine, “I shall be released”.

Pink Floyd has spent much of 2024 releasing live albums that appeal to their most ardent supporters. The band, which has been largely defunct when it comes to producing new tunes for years now, has mined their archives for special recordings, and each one has become at least a minor sales win. The group scores another smash this frame in their home nation with yet another just-dropped live set.

The Travel Sequence - Osaka Japan 1972 debuts on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart in the U.K. this week. The title opens at No. 28 on the list of the bestselling full-lengths in the rock and metal genres across the pond.

That tally is especially busy this frame with quite a few debuts. Seven titles open higher than The Travel Sequence , with five launching within the top 10 alone. Bands like Cassyette, Simone Simons, and Nile start their latest offerings much higher than Pink Floyd—but that’s not unusual when comparing a live set and a new studio recording from a beloved band.

The Travel Sequence marks Pink Floyd’s fourth new entrant on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart so far this year. They have also managed to debut all of the following projects on the tally in just the past few months: Live at the BBC - September 1971 (No. 24), Winterland Eclipse 1972 (No. 32), and California Sun - Live 1970 (No. 24).

Pink Floyd dropped The Travel Sequence in mid-August. It was made available to buy as a two-CD set, with one disc featuring 11 tracks, while the second includes just a handful of additional cuts that those who have been listening for years will love.

iPhone 16 Release Date Latest: What To Expect When And Where

Today’s nyt mini crossword clues and answers for friday, september 6, ‘the rings of power’ season 2, episode 4 review: another atrocious disaster.

Throughout the past decade, Pink Floyd has sent dozens of projects to the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. They are about to reach 50 placements on the list—a figure they may hit sooner rather than later, as they appear committed to continually sharing new compilations and live albums.

The Travel Sequence is one of three titles that Pink Floyd keeps on the Official Rock & Metal Albums roster this period. The Dark Side of the Moon dips slightly to No. 6 this frame. Meanwhile, Wish You Were Here falls from No. 15 to No. 29.
