REVIEW: Ozzy Osbourne – Ozzmosis (1995, remastered)

Scan_20160727

It is fair to say that Ozzy’s solo recording career post- No More Tears is not considered as classic as the music from before. Admittedly it was a confusing time. Ozzy finished his “No More Tours” tour while all the talk was about a Sabbath reunion that never happened. Retirement wasn’t in the cards, so Ozzy re-teamed with a few former members of his band: Zakk Wylde on guitar, and Geezer Butler on bass. Joining the band behind the drums was a pre-Journey Deen Castronovo. Ozzy sat down to write with a number of talents including Steve Vai, and eventually produced the “post retirement” album Ozzmosis .

Ozzmosis was considered by some fans to be inferior to No More Tears , although song for song, No More Tears isn’t as great as people seem to remember it.   Ozzmosis has a heavier, more bass-centric sound and certainly boasts at least four Ozzy classics in its grooves.  Osbourne has gone on record as preferring the demo versions of some songs better than the album tracks, but Ozzmosis boasts a hell of a heavy sound.

Ozzy was also struggling with his public image.  He didn’t want to be seen at the bat-biting madman anymore.  I suppose that’s why we see songs like “Perry Mason” on Ozzmosis .  Not a bad track, it was chosen as lead single.  But the subject matter?  Not sure why, but:

“Who can we get on this case? We need Perry Mason, Someone to put you in place, Calling Perry Mason.”

Certainly a far cry lyrically from “Bark at the Moon”, but musically it’s still Ozzy prowling in the shadows, warning you of the dangers.  It’s delightful to hear Geezer’s trademark slinky bass all over it.  (I have often said that Ozzy’s best solo band, post-Randy, had Geezer and Zakk.)  Ozzy was sufering from some vocal issues at the time, but “Perry Mason” isn’t one of the songs you can tell this from.  Only Ozzy Osbourne & Co. could make a song about Perry Mason this cool.

“Perry Mason” would be one of the four album classics.  Also up there is “I Just Want You”, which he wrote with Canadian songsmith Jim Vallance.  Ozzy was rightfully proud of this heavy ballad.  Rick Wakeman provided keys, classy and absolutely perfect.  At times he’s playing synth parts that sound like mellotron, at others like a big fat Hammond organ (bigger than Orlando Bloom’s wang).  At all times, it is awesome.  Zakk Wylde plays an effects-laden solo that sounds underwater, but in a good way.  It’s haunting and not robbed of its power.  He utilises this “watery” sound on a number of tracks on Ozzmosis .

Standing with these songs is “See You on the Other Side”, another fab ballad from the dark side.  Ozzy’s preferred demo version (with sax solo) can be found on his Prince of Darkness box set.  There’s nothing wrong with this version though, haunting as it is.   It was written by Ozzy, Zakk, and Lemmy Kilmister, who helped Ozzy out with the words.

The fourth and final classic is the album closer, “Old L.A. Tonight”.  As one of Ozzy’s piano ballads, it has been largely forgotten over the years.  The piano and Zakk’s very emotive playing only amplify what Ozzy’s singing.  Zakk’s solo is one of his finest.  Why some things become hits and not others, I don’t always understand.  “Old L.A. Tonight” is superior in almost every way to a track like “Mama I’m Coming Home”, or “So Tired”.   This is one of the tracks that does reveal cracks in the Ozzman’s voice, as he reaches for very high notes and quavers.  I can’t hit the notes he’s hitting, though.

You’ll notice that of the four album classics, three are ballads, and that’s a problem.  Yes, even as far back as “Changes” or “Planet Caravan”, Ozzy has been a master of the art of the heavy ballad.  His core audience tends to buy albums for his heavy metal songs, and the heavy material on Ozzmosis is lacking.  Few of those songs really congeal into something solidly memorable.  The album sounds heavy on effects, and while that strategy worked on the four classics, it tends to choke and strangle the other songs, inhibiting Ozzy’s voice with a nasal muffler.  It’s surprising how much time he spends singing higher than what sounds comfortable, and that too is a weakness.

Sony tacked on two bonus tracks for this 2002 reissue — a rip off, and I’ll explain why.  The album includes two B-sides:  “The Whole World’s Falling Down” and “Aimee”.  (That makes two songs about Ozzy’s kids on this CD, including “My Little Man” about Jack.)   There were however four B-sides released for this album, and two are not included for no good reason.  Missing are “Living With the Enemy” and “Voodoo Dancer”, but fear not.  None of Ozzy’s B-sides this time out were really keepers.  “Aimee” isn’t bad, but Ozzy has done much better stuff for his B-sides in the past.  Songs like “You Said It All”, “Don’t Blame Me”, and “Liar”.

Zakk Wylde didn’t do the tour for this album, even though he co-wrote and played on it.  Zakk seemed to be trying to establish himself separate from Ozzy at the time, and so Ozzy toured with Joe Holmes who had finished up a stint with David Lee Roth.  (Though Ozzy stuck with Holmes for five years, I never thought he sounded right playing the Ozzy or Sabbath material.)  After a brief leg, Ozzy fired Deen Castronovo and re-hired his previous drummer Randy Castillo.  Ozzy made a backhanded statement about Castronovo being a talented session drummer, and that’s what he should continue to do.  Ouch.

It’s a mixed bag, but when you hit a gem in the grooves of Ozzmosis , it is worth the price of purchase. Shame about the stinky cover art.

3.25/5 stars

I was sorely disappointed by this. The four songs you picked were the standouts for me too. Not enough to want to wade through the album though. This is a 2 for me.

Fair enough. Burn your own 4-song EP and call it Mosis.

Good and Fair review…the Vallance tune i think is the best track on this whole album. Of course Ozzy played the Farewell tour card in 92 in which we all bought into and went of course(Review at my site..shameless plug) so of course with the Ozzmosis tour he called it The Retirement Sucks tour..ha… I have not listened to this in a long time but i recall being disappointed somewhat by it after the strong musical muscle statement that No More Tears made…tuff one to follow…..

Funny thing, I have another Vallance related review tomorrow.

I guess I should re-look at NMT. I never really liked it to be honest, not as much as No Rest for the Wicked.

We have differences of opinions on this one Mikey! NRFTW i could not handle the sterile sound of the drums whereas NMT was the tour i seen Ozzy on and his firing on all 4 cylinders on the 92 tour….so that’s why that album dig a lot more….

The NRFTW drums sound like samples to me. But back in the 80’s on a TAPED cassette on my old boom box, they actually sounded better! LOL

Bought it on vinyl and i just could not get into it…but like I said before there was so much product coming out if something I found wasn’t top notch I was moving on pretty quickly….

Agree and disagree Mike. Firstly, another tasty review thanks so much for covering such good records. But whike I’d add Tomorrow to the list of gems you rightly highlight from this solid record, count me in the camp still thinking No More Tears was indeed as good as they remember :) Put it down to nostalgia put it down to the time from which it came, heck I put it down to No More Tears simply being one of the best fooking records released LOL, easily and always a top5 album fer me.

But take nothing away from Ozzmosis, still a fine record even if not on the level of NMT (just my 2c). But while not releasing as good an album since, there’s always been a nugget or two on each release (the overlooked borderline classic Running Out Of Time from the otherwise plain Down To Earth, Countdown and Nightmare from Black Rain and Mike already said what’s best about Scream here https://mikeladano.com/2014/03/22/review-ozzy-osbourne-scream-2011-tour-edition/ )… But Ozzmosis remains (at least to me) the last of the very best of the Ozzy records.

Thanks for the usual in deoth review, a bloody good read and overall agree with ya thoughts on this one :)

Thanks for the awesome comment man! I guess I’ll have to do my No More Tears review soon although I’m sure some will find it controversial!

Down to Earth is the only Ozzy album I have never bought. I bought the singles from it, but not the album. I do have the live album from that tour and was going to review it soon.

Please do :)

No probs with controversial so long as you accept some lengthy count-arguments LOL. Can’t recommend DTE, tbh the only track worthy of his past IMO was Running Out Of Time (was rather baffled they went with the other ballad as single opinions being what they are of course) and Black Rain was even worse likewise its poor cover art hmmm…

Look forward to a No More Tears review.

Funny thing about No More Tears was that one of the best tracks wasn’t even on the album. Don’t Blame Me, I thought that was one of the best tracks right up there with the title track. But we’ll get there!

I love the cover of this. It’s really weird.

True. I dunno. Didn’t like it. I don’t like eyeballs and false teeth.

It may have something to do with how young I was when I first saw it, but I still think it’s one of my favorites.

I was working at the Record Store. It came in “used” the same day it was released new. Cough.

I really like it myself. It’s one of my favorites albums from Ozzy, but I could see how others might be disappointed. It’s definitely not Bark At The Moon or Diary of a Madman.

And it’s not like it’s a bad album. I just think the ballads are the best tracks!

Yeah I dig the coverart too. Not great but kinda whacky cool…

A return on day of release Mike? Someone was clearly disappointed.

Not a return exactly :) Cough cough.

Stolen CDs were a problem in the late 90’s. I’d say from 1995-1997, the cops in our town had their hands well full with shoplifting.

thanks for this. I was under the impression that this was not worth the time but due to your review just listened to it and these days it sounds okey. Will give it a couple more spins to see whether it sticks…

Give it a go! I think about half of this album is solid enough to keep. Unfortunately there is no “hits package” that has all the good songs…

I hadn’t realized Vallance had done some co-writing here – add it to an already impressive resume!

The guy is incredibly talented. I first became aware with him via Kiss! He co-wrote some of their heaviest material! (This led to a Kiss song being used on a Bryan Adams album, Don’t Leave Me Lonely.)

I didn’t realize there was a kiss connection there, that’s a solid early BA tune!

Yup and Kiss recorded lots of BA tunes too. This is before Cuts Like a Knife!

I have to admit that this is the only Ozzy album I’ve ever really been interested in. Mostly cause I dug Perry Mason and some of the other tracks are vaguely familiar. I’ll maybe not pick it up anytime soon, though.

So interesting that more people than I anticipated have connections with some of these songs!

I’ve always liked Ozzmosis. The four tracks you point out are most definitely the strongest on the album though. I always thought Perry Mason was about the fact that in the early 90s, he was always being sued by some grieving parent whose child had committed suicide and after the death, the parent found an Ozzy record in their child’s record collection so it must have been Ozzy’s fault. Once, I read an interview where Ozzy said he refused to get involved in the cases and just let his lawyer handle it. Some of the lyrics of Perry Mason seem to point to this.

Holy crap. Yeah. I never ever thought of it that way before. Thanks!

My pleasure :)

Hmm – my comment from yesterday never appeared (nor did a few others on a few other sites, perhaps it will eventually. I think I’d said, hadn’t known about the Vallance connection here, add it to his already impressive resume!

We have hopefully got this fixed now!

Not a single metal fan I’ve ever known agrees with me, but “Ozzmosis” is my favorite solo Ozzy album. It has less to do with the quality of the songs and more to do with the connotations of the album in my life. This came out during my first semester in law school, and I played it constantly, especially while prepping for exams. The experience stuck with me to the point that I remember listening to “I Just Want You” over and over again the night before I took the bar exam, three years later. (I nailed the bar exam, and honestly I credit Ozzy with an assist on that goal). I also recall listening to “Old L.A. Tonight” while waiting to board my plane home after that first semester was over. This album is heavier than most give it credit for, catchier than “No More Tears,” and more tightly-produced. No one can argue with Zakk Wylde’s incredible guitar work. I’m probably the only metal fan in America that reaches for this album first when I feel a mood to hear Ozzy. Yes, I’m strange, I know. To put it in perspective, “Diamonds Are Forever” is my favorite Bond film and Franklin Pierce is my favorite U.S. President. I know I’ve got a screw loose somewhere.

Oh I have a soft spot for Diamonds are Forever too. I think it was my first Bond. I saw a lot of Roger Moore’s films long before I saw my first Connery. Upon seeing Sean for the first time, I thought, “Meh, I like Roger Moore.”

I’m really pleased that other people have feelings for Old L.A. Tonight. It’s a really special song for me. I think I played that one about 7 or 8 times in a row one night driving around.

Ozzmosis is a very underrated album, in my opinion. I think it’s great and I really can’t find any bad tracks on it even though My Little Man is somewhat underwhelming. Just like you, I believe No More Tears is slightly overrated. it contains some really awesome tracks but it’s also not short of fillers, something this album does not have. I also like Michael Beinhorn’s production and even though Deen Castronovo turned out to be a douche deluxe, you can’t deny he’s a drum phantom. He and Ozzy probably had some really nice drug binges during the recording…

Weird thing was when he toured this album, he didn’t play one single off this record sp maybe he wasn’t that fond of it himself – or maybe he just couldn’t be arsed to rehearse any new stuff…

Still, I think this was Ozzy’s finest moment since The Ultimate Sin and I don’t think Ozzy has recorded one killer record after this one either. What I don’t get is why he let go of the Ozzy logo type…

Boy, I sure lost a lot of respect for Deen in the past year. But considering that Journey got Steve Smith back, I think they ended up with a much better drummer out of it. Of course Smith won’t stay forever but now they have 4/5 of the most popular Journey lineup!

Good question on the Logo. I think he just wanted to go for a different image. But I miss that classic logo!

Ill take Ozzmosis over Tears any day… Some great tracks. Although Ozzy is Randy Rhoads to me yeah Im old.

I still really like No More Tears. I know we’ve had this conversation before. It’s cool!

Haha Perry Mason… Ozzy gets any older, he’ll instead be calling for Maaaaaatloooooock!

I don’t have this one here. I think I’ve seen it in the shops brand new for $5. A 3.25/5… is that worth $5?

Yes. I think it is.

I’ve been putting off my NMT review. Not because I’m scared to, just because every time I play it, I don’t have anything to say.

That’s so weird. I love that album.

Whoah really Mike? That bad???

Maybe I should make NMT my first :). That cover art would lend itself nicely to some tooning and what can I say, count me in board with kmalive, terrific record easily a 4.5…

Yeah man, I played it a few months ago and couldn’t muster anything to say!

But I’m working on some new format ideas, some “brief” reviews (200-350 words) and maybe No More Tears will work for me in that format.

Ozzmosis by Ozzy Osbourne

Following the untimely death of guitarist Randy Rhoads in 1982, Osbourne struggled to maintain a consistent backing band. However, in the latter part of the decade Zakk Wylde would come closest to replacing Rhoads, with the recording 1988’s No Rest for the Wicked and the very successful No More Tears , which went 4x platinum. Following this success, Osbourne proclaimed his next “retirement tour” would be called “No More Tours”.

With his return in 1995, Osbourne originally started the recording project with producer Michael Wagener. However, after recording several songs, the record label requested a change in production style, so Wagener was replaced by Michael Beinhorn and four tracks were re-recorded. Recorded in Paris and New York, the sessions also spawned two songs, “Aimee” and “Living with the Enemy”, which would not become part of the album until the 2002 remastered edition.

The album and its opener, “Perry Mason”, starts with dramatic, string-like textures by keyboardist Rick Wakeman , in setting up the rich vibe of the song. Osbourne provides a good hook with a cool backwards masking effect, which helped make this a hit record, reaching number three on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart in November 1995. “I Just Want You” follows as a romantic ballad, co-written by Jim Vallance . It starts with heavy synth strings accompanying especially dry and somber vocals by Osbourne. This track gets especially intense during the bridge and lead parts, with Wylde’s tremolo effected guitar flying into the final verse which elevates into a higher key, keeping the ever-intense ride at maximum intensity for the duration of this fine track.

“Ghost Behind My Eyes” has an interesting riff with a twangy sound beneath heavy effects, all acting in contrast to Osbourne’s chanting vocals, while “Thunder Underground” is the first real heavy metal track, built on the slow but strong rhythms by Butler and drummer Dean Castronovo . Co-written by Motorhead bassist Lemmy Kilmister , “See You on the Other Side” is the best overall song on the album. It starts with a thumping bass and drum rhythm which is soon complemented by Wylde’s picked guitar riff through the intro and verse. The choruses have much more intensity to drive home the message with an overall classic rock feel throughout in the excellent production and measured performance. A fantastic lead guitar is followed by a climactic bridge where Osbourne’s vocals soar above the interesting riff patterns, setting up the final verse/chorus sequence with great use of repetition through the elongated outro. The doomy and intense track with a dark metal feel, which at times goes a little overboard with the effects. However, this does have poetic lyrics;

Can I get a witness to take away the pain? Walking on the water, going nowhere fastest, feeling like I’m walking with no shoes on broken glass…”

“Denial” starts with long drum roll intro by Castronovo before Wylde’s wild guitar riff directs the song into the verse and choruses, while “My Little Man” has a wild, sitar-influenced synth intro, which persists throughout. The latter song features Steve Vai on lead guitar, who was part of the group at the beginning of recording but soon dropped out. While entertaining, “My Jekyll Doesn’t Hide” tries too hard to fit into the heavy grunge sound of the day and ultimately falls a bit short. But the album does recover nicely for its final track, “Old LA Tonight”, which starts as a piano ballad but soon builds into a track which rises above its power ballad approach. The middle guitar lead-up along with bass is particularly interesting and helps to end the album on a high note.

Ozzy Osbourne and Zakk Wylde-1

Ozzmosis reached the Top 5 on the American album charts and has since been certified double platinum. Osbourne and the group launched a “Retirement Sucks!” tour in support of the album before the supporting members began to go their separate ways. In 1996, Osbourne launched the successful Ozzfest tour, which grew in stature and ultimately became one his his most successful financial ventures.

“I definitely wouldn’t say I was confident” about solo success, says Osbourne, adding that the 2021 induction of Randy Rhoads, his late songwriting partner, in the musical excellence category “made me feel we could be on to something. With every new music venture there’s always a certain amount of surprise that comes when you see the fans embrace it, because no one wants to make a record and have it flop. I feel like I was invited to a party in 1980, and it hasn’t stopped. Not bad for a guy who was fired from his last band.”

Comparing this induction to Sabbath’s “feels different,” Osbourne says, “because my solo career, it’s been a much larger part of my overall music career as a whole.” And after finishing fourth in the fan vote with more than 480,000 votes “feels more special, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way.”

The big question, of course, is whether Osbourne will perform at the induction ceremony on Oct. 19 in Cleveland. Though he’s effectively retired from touring due to a variety of health issues, including Parkinson’s disease, Osbourne continues to speak about performing again in some capacity. Could it be a two- or three-song set for the Rock Hall? “You never know,” he says, only promising that his outfit that night “will most certainly be black.”

Will Ozzy Osbourne Be Able to Perform at the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony?

The Black Sabbath rocker has largely retreated from live performances amid a series of spinal operations over the past few years

Will Ozzy Osbourne return to the stage to celebrate his Rock Hall induction?

The rock legend will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year as a solo artist in its 2024 class, marking his second entry into the organization following Black Sabbath's induction in 2006.

After largely retreating from live performances due to undergoing a series of spinal operations related to structural damage sustained from a 2019 fall, Osbourne opened up to Billboard in a new interview about whether he'll be able to perform at the Rock Hall induction ceremony in October.

"You never know," the 75-year-old "Crazy Train" singer told the outlet, simply teasing that his outfit for the event "will most certainly be black."

Osbourne said he's "more than honored" to receive his second induction, which "feels big" and "different" from getting welcomed into the Rock Hall alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates, explaining, "because my solo career, it’s been a much larger part of my overall music career as a whole."

While the Prince of Darkness didn't confirm he'll perform at the show, he revealed he's feeling inspired to create music at the moment.

"I’m not putting a timetable on it," said the artist, who last released Patient Number 9 in 2022, "but I plan to start working on a new album sometime in the near future."

Osbourne last performed a brief set at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in England. In an interview with Metal Hammer last year, the musician revealed he'd undergone his "final surgery" and expressed desire to make "one more album" and return to performing live.

"I’ve had all the surgery now, thank God," Osbourne told the outlet. "I’m feeling OK — it was just dragging on. I thought I’d be back on my feet months ago, I just couldn’t get used to this mode of living, constantly having something wrong. I can’t walk properly yet, but I’m not in any pain any more and  the surgery on my spine  went great."

Osbourne will be inducted into the Rock Hall's performer category alongside fellow musicians Mary J. Blige ,  Cher ,  Dave Matthews  Band, Foreigner,  Peter Frampton , Kool & the Gang and A Tribe Called Quest.

Additionally, the late Alexis Korner, John Mayall and the late Big Mama Thornton will receive the musical influence award, while  the late Jimmy Buffett , MC5, Dionne Warwick and the late Norman Whitfield will receive the musical excellence award. Suzanne de Passe will receive the Ahmet Ertegun award.

Last year, Ozzy's wife Sharon spoke about her husband's lack of solo induction during an interview on The Adam Carolla Show . "They know that Ozzy deserves to be there," she said at the time.

"They know he’s been a solo artist. You’ve gotta be doing it for 25 years. He’s been 43 years as a solo artist," continued Sharon, 71. "He sold nearly a hundred million albums as a solo artist. So where is he? Induct him."

Tour Itinerary:

Red square:.

Russia and Moscow are synonymous with Red Square and the Kremlin and that's hardly surprising as you'll find these places absolutely stunning!

  • - Walk-through the Resurrection Gate and don’t forget to flip a coin so you’ll be sure to come back one day!
  • - Visit the world's famous Kazan Cathedral .
  • - See the State Department Store (GUM), once the Upper Trading Stalls, which were built over a century ago and still operating!
  • - Admire the lovely St. Basil's Cathedral! The French diplomat Marquis de Custine commented that it combined "the scales of a golden fish, the enamelled skin of a serpent, the changeful hues of the lizard, the glossy rose and azure of the pigeon's neck" and wondered at "the men who go to worship God in this box of confectionery work".
  • - Walk by Lobnoye Mesto (literally meaning "Execution Place", or "Place of Skulls"), once Ivan the Terrible's stage for religious ceremonies, speeches, and important events.
  • - Entering the Alexander Garden , you’ll take in spectacular views of Russian architecture from ancient to Soviet times, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with an eternal flame. Watch Changing of the Guard Ceremony every hour in summer and every half an hour in winter.

Kitai-gorod:

Stroll along medieval Kitai-gorod with its strong ancient Russia feel, known for its bohemian lifestyle, markets and arts.

  • - Nikolskaya Street. Here you will find the Russia's first publishing house, the second oldest monastery, and Ferryn Pharmacy, known as the number one pharmacy back in Soviet times and famous for its Empire-style architecture.
  • - Ilinka Street. The financial street of the Kitaigorod (China Town) district, where you’ll find the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant’s Yard), which is now a showroom for Ferraris and Maseratis. The street was designed in the 1790s by Catherine the Great.
  • - Varvarka street. The oldest street in Moscow, which dates back to the 14th century, and still has remnants of early Muscovite architecture, such as the Old English Court and the Palace of the Romanov’s.
  • - Kamergersky Lane. Only a small road of about 250 meters, it is home to some of the oldest artifacts of the city, as each building holds a fascinating story. Some of Russia's most famous writers, poets, and composers from as far back as the Golden Age of Russian culture, have lived or worked on this lane.

Historic City Center

Walk the historical old center of Moscow with its cool local vibe, including the main Tverskaya street , and indulge in desserts in the first grocery “Eliseev's store” , housed in an 18th century neoclassical building, famous for its baroque interior and decoration.

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:

At 3:30, as energy flagged, lunch was on the agenda at a Ukrainian restaurant.  Just in time!  We asked our guide to order for us.  We all had the same thing....borscht (the Ukrainian version has beans and more tomatoes than the Russian version, which has more beets and includes beef).

The special high bread served is called galushki.  Our main course was golubtsy...a dish of minced meat rolled in braised cabbage leaves.  Both dishes called for optional sour cream as a topping....of course, yes, please....I recommend it.

Full, satisfied, and completely refreshed, it was off to Red Square and St. Basil's and GUM department store.  Red Square is not so named because of the color of the brick walls of the Kremlin.  Rather the word for 'red' and the word for 'beautiful' are similar in pronunciation....and, there you have it.

As we made the turn by the National Museum in front of which is the mounted sculpture of the "Marshall of Victory," Giorgy Zhukov from WWII and caught our first view of St. Basil's, my friend and I simultaneously emitted "Oooohhhhh!"  There it was....the iconic onion domes of St. Basil's!  Hooray....it was open until 7....we had about 30 minutes and were allowed in, AND we could take photos with no flash.

Now, I can give you a taste of what we saw in the other cathedrals in Cathedral Square.  What we learned is that St. Vasily and St. Basil are one in the same....Russian/English.  He was a common man who wandered Moscow unclothed and barefoot.  But, all, even Ivan the Terrible, heeded his opinions derived from his visions.  Ivan had this cathedral built over his tomb.

As we exited and took photos up close of the onion domes, Inna presented us with chocolate (how did she know we were ready for another energy boost, and we each got a big piece of chocolate.  The baby's name pictured on the wrapper of this famous Russian chocolate is Alyonka....the Russian Gerber baby, don't you think?

One could wear out the credit card in GUM's (capitalized because it is actually a government abbreviation), but the 'kitty' and my credit card stayed in my pocket as we strolled through the glass-topped arcade.

We then strolled through some of Moscow's lovely pedestrian streets; paused to listen as a wonderful quartet performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in an underground passage to cross the busy street (hooray!....we DID have our 'classical concert' experience after all; a request Alina tried in vain to fill because none was scheduled those days), saw the Bolshoi, which means 'big' (my friend has yet to recover that their performance schedule did not coincide with our cruise), saw the Central Telegraph Building, dating from the 1930's, and made our way to the Ritz-Carlton to see the night view of Moscow from the rooftop bar, called O2.

There were fleece blankets to wrap yourself in....yes, it got that cold when the sun set.  We each ordered something hot to drink...the ginger, mint, lemon tea served to me in a parfait glass (for 600 rubles...about $9....you pay for the view here!) was delightful and hit the spot perfectly.  It was time to call it a night....

OZZY OSBOURNE - Ozzmosis (1995, 2002 Sony remaster) It is fair to say that Ozzy's solo recording career post- No More Tears is not considered as classic as the music from before.
