Each piece of luggage is evaluated by experts in the Lab as well as consumer testers on the go. In the Lab, we look at factors like durability, ease of use and more. We also pack each suitcase with a standard load to see how much it can hold and how easy the compartments are to access. Consumer testers come into the Lab to use the luggage in an obstacle course, where they weigh in on handle comfort, wheel performance, maneuverability and more. Finally, we send luggage out with travelers into the real world for firsthand feedback.

You can learn more about how we test luggage and what to consider as you shop — including how to decide between hardside and softside luggage — but first, here's everything you need to know about our top-tested luggage brands.

Samsonite earns our top spot for the best luggage brand because it has a wide assortment for every preference — from business travelers to vacationers — and has continuously proven to be high quality as we've tested it over the years.

In particular, it stands out for its durability and ease-of-use features: There's been no struggling to open and close the cases, and packing them has been a breeze , thanks to the functional compartments that maximize space. It's certainly not inexpensive, but as direct-to-consumer luggage brand prices have skyrocketed, Samsonite's have remained fairly consistent.

Both hardside and softside styles from the brand have excelled in our tests. We've also been impressed by each of the sizes, including carry-ons, checked bags and underseat luggage. Some of our favorite models include the Freeform hardside (pictured here), the Solyte DLX softside and the Stryde Glyder , which is a checked case that's wide instead of tall so it's less likely to tip over.

If you're on a budget or you don’t use luggage regularly — i.e., it doesn’t need to be the most durable and you don’t need all the bells and whistles — American Tourister offers competitive pricing and an excellent variety to choose from . There are a lot of options if you prefer bright colors and fun prints, plus there are cases for the entire family, including a Disney collection . Between the designs and versatile offerings, the models are fun, functional and especially ideal for vacationers.

Just note that while luxury hardside cases are usually made of polycarbonate, American Tourister typically uses ABS plastic, which is more affordable but more prone to scratches. Still, it gets high ratings from online reviewers who note that the bags are surprisingly spacious. Another perk: The brand offers luggage sets for an even better value, especially if you need to purchase multiple pieces. Pictured here is the Pop Max Softside set , which at $150 for a set of three, is less than other single cases.

Away is one of the most popular luggage brands on the market, and our testing shows it actually lives up to its hype. Though the brand has a wide range of offerings, we especially love the hardside carry-on.

It's made of 100% polycarbonate that proved to be durable and lightweight in our evaluations — even lighter than some fabric bags we’ve tested. It was also surprisingly spacious and held a full packing load in our review. The company offers a 100-day return policy on unused items; it also offers a lifetime limited warranty on its suitcases that covers any "functional damage."

Besides the main Carry-On model , it comes in variations like a Bigger Carry-On (which the brand says can hold 20% more) and a Carry-On Flex (which has an expandable zipper). We also love the brand's Everywhere Bag , which is a stylish and surprisingly spacious weekender.

Briggs & Riley

Briggs & Riley bags are pricey — a carry-on can cost over $600 — but they come with a lifetime guarantee that will cover all repairs if the luggage ever gets broken or damaged. They also come with innovative features, such as the brand's signature compression packing system. Bags that have this feature expand to let you pack and then compress down after they're filled. In fact, one of our testers said she packed a week's worth of summer clothes for two people into a compact carry-on, and it easily fit into an airline's overhead bin.

The suitcases also use top-notch construction and timeless designs in a range of styles, including hardside, softside, carry-ons and checked bags. The Baseline Global Carry-On Spinner (pictured here in the 21-inch version) has been a selected as GH Family Travel Award winner for the past two years after travel testers gave it perfect scores across the board. Its nylon fabric also aced our Lab's abrasion tests.

It’s hard to find good luggage for under $100, but Amazon’s luggage does not disappoint. There are softside and hardside styles to choose from, plus garment bags , duffels and more. Amazon also boasts extensive testing to make sure their products will hold up, and though the luggage might not the absolute best quality out there, the price can’t be beat.

We were impressed with its hardside 20-inch spinner carry-on (pictured here) when we tested it on our Lab. Our analysts found it to be exceptionally easy to pack, though the ABS material wasn't as scratch-resistant as other models in our tests. Still, consumer testers liked the maneuverability and wheel performance. This style also comes in two other sizes (24 and 28 inches) and can be purchased as a two- or three-piece set.

This luxury brand is on the pricey side but has timeless designs — from hardside to tweed fabric — that never go out of style. In fact, the brand’s marketing and aesthetics are focused heavily on its heritage. It has been a top performer in our tests, thanks to its spacious interior that's easy to pack and its wheels and handles that make it smooth and comfortable to maneuver.

The hardside cases have earned high scores in our tests — especially standing out for being scratch-resistant, lightweight and spacious — but we also love the softside Legend collection (pictured here), which is made of durable tweed fabric and leather trim.

This fashionable yet functional travel brand was founded by actress Shay Mitchell and incorporates smart features designed to make traveling easier. It also has a stunning aesthetic, including monochromatic color schemes in which the handles and hardware match the case.

Pictured here is the Carry-On Roller, its best-selling case that comes in a range of neutral and fun hues. It was spacious for packing and easy to maneuver in our tests, and though it did scuff during use, it resisted dents well during our Lab's drop tests. Another popular style is its Mini Weekender , which can be used as a personal item that fits underneath the airplane seat in front of you.

a photo of the beis carry on luggage and beis weekender bag

The Béis carry-on and compact weekender bag being used as a travel set.

This company was founded by a pilot, and it makes luggage specifically for airline personnel who travel for a living. Still, it's just as functional for business and leisure travelers.

The brand primarily sells softside luggage, though it does have some hardside options available. There’s excellent attention to detail that makes frequent flying easier, like cushioning around the handles for comfort, self-aligning wheels that let you roll the luggage in any direction and abrasion-resistant nylon fabric.

The Platinum Elite softside luggage (pictured here) stood out in our Lab tests. Not only was it durable, but it was also spacious enough to hold our entire load with room to spare. The downside was that it was heavier than others, but it's a fair tradeoff for the top-of-the-line features.

This brand increases the fun factor and makes it easier to spot your luggage in a sea of solid colors. There are adorable animal sets for kids' luggage , animal prints for adults and more. There are also options for licensed teams and art (like Britto, shown here), making your suitcase a playful yet functional accessory.

When it comes to materials, most Heys suitcases are hardside and made of polycarbonate and ABS composite. This means it's mostly ABS plastic but has a polycarbonate coating on the outside for added protection. The brand wasn't the most durable in our tests, it but earned high ease-of-use scores.

Style is certainly important when it comes to luggage — it's an accessory, after all — but you don't want to sacrifice quality and functionality. Calpak's cases are both well-made and have unique designs. Though its assortment is tailored with fewer models than some of the big brands, Calpak still has a wide range of materials to choose from, including sleek hardside polycarbonate, printed ABS/polycarbonate blends and ripstop polyester.

Calpak's Ambeur carry-on (pictured here) was one of our testers' favorites; they especially loved the easy-to-use telescopic handle and metallic color. We also found it to be easy to pack and though it wasn't as scratch-resistant as some others we tested (which is expected for ABS composites), it still withstood dents and damage from our durability drop test.

Tumi

Rolling TUMI luggage through the airport is like a status symbol; the brand is highly recognized for its upscale products for both business and leisure travelers.

In addition to its suitcases , it makes accessories like briefcases and backpacks and has components that make traveling easier, like an anti-slip strap on carrying bags and an extra hook on rolling bags so you can wheel multiple items at once. On top of that, the brand stands out for its unique service offerings, like repairs and luggage registration to help you find lost bags.

We especially love Tumi's Alpha collection (pictured here is the Alpha carry-on ) with its durable materials and removable garment sleeve. One GH analyst who has been using a backpack in this collection appreciates that it fits more than you'd expect and has a versatile design for travel, work and beyond.

L.L.Bean

If you’re going away for weeks or just have lots to pack, L.L.Bean’s duffels are roomy enough to stuff in everything you need. There are options with or without wheels and lots of sizes to choose from (the Adventure Rolling Duffel , shown here, is incredibly durable and one of our go-to picks for vacations with kids).

The flexible shape of the duffel also allows it to store easily under your bed, so it’s perfect for college students or anyone tight on storage space. It’s also made of sturdy, water-resistant nylon fabric that's made to last no matter where your travels take you — in fact, one of our experts says it's lasted for years without signs of wear. She does note that it's a little more cumbersome to pull than four-wheel spinner luggage and it's spaciousness makes it easy to go over the 50-pound weight limit for airlines, but says it's perfect for packing for two kids.

Monos

Monos says its design philosophy is "less is more," — meaning the bags are made to be simple and timeless to avoid passing trends and high quality so they can stand the test of time. Most of its hardside bags are entirely polycarbonate, though some combine polycarbonate and aluminum for increased durability. They also have useful packing features like wide compression straps to help you fit more in the case.

The Check-In Large was a winner of last year's GH Family Travel Awards because of its spacious interior and maneuverability. Testers said it was easy to roll and they loved the sleek appearance. It's also worth noting that the brand has a 100-day return period so you can get a refund if it's not a good fit.

Eagle Creek

Eagle Creek

Whether you’re backpacking internationally or exploring a national park, Eagle Creek gives you both the convenience and durability you need in a bag. Some have various compartments so you can stay organized (or store shoes and dirty laundry separately), and some bags have backpack straps if you need to be hands-free.

We especially love the Cargo Hauler Duffel for shorter trips: It’s affordable, spacious, lightweight and folds up into a small pouch for easy storage. For longer getaways, the Migrate Wheeled Duffel (pictured here) is larger and has two wheels with a telescopic handle. It also opens wide so you can easily access the contents.

The Best Carry-On Suitcases for Your Next Trip

Your luggage should be accessible, easy to wheel or carry and cool-looking, too.

next travel case

By Evan Malachosky

Whether it’s wrongly taken off the baggage claim or loaded on an incorrect flight, losing a checked bag is an occupational hazard for frequent fliers . That’s why most carry their personal effects on instead — especially during the holiday season, when a lost bag means lost gifts. For the seasoned traveler , carry-on luggage needs to hold a few changes of clothes and maybe an extra pair of shoes , have pockets for mid-journey access and meet the requirements for fitting in an overhead compartment.

Beis The Carry-On Roller

Calpak hue carry-on luggage, level8 carry-on luggage, eastpak trans4 cnnct m coat, black hole duffel bag 40l, cotopaxi allpa 35l, db journey roamer 50l split duffel.

What separates these from backpacks and duffles ? Wheels and telescoping handles, because rolling always beats hauling a bag over your shoulder. However, simply having wheels and a handle is the bare minimum. Plenty more goes into getting carry-on luggage that’s just right for you and the way and where you travel.

How We Tested

collage of carry on luggage suitcases

Our testers took several carry-on suitcases on flights across the US and the Atlantic. Each one observed the suitcases’ key features, like whether the wheels roll smoothly, the handle is truly telescopic or if the inside isn’t forgiving to over-packers.

They stayed with them, too, so they could be observed outside the airport. As such, we also considered how it fit in the trunk of your car, onto a luggage trolley, inside your hotel room and even in your closet at home (when not on the road).

Away Carry-On

  • $275.00 at Away
  • Lightweight polycarbonate design is still durable
  • Super spacious and easy to pack
  • The optional battery pack keeps you charged on the go
  • The handle feels flimsy compared to the rest of the hardy suitcase
  • Battery must come out to be checked-in
  • Dimensions: 22 x 14 x 9 inches
  • Weight: 7.1 pounds
  • Capacity: 39.8 L
  • Warranty: Lifetime

Away burst onto the scene in late 2015 with a plan to disrupt the stale luggage market. It was, as we call them now, a DTC disruptor — a brand that’d cut out the middlemen and approach prospective customers directly. (DTC = direct-to-consumer.) Its first product, The Carry-On, was perfectly plain, a product that first appeared lame but would go on to be fairly ubiquitous because of its simplicity. It also introduced a feature that’s now commonplace on trendy suitcases: an integrated lithium-ion battery for charging your phone.

away

Our tester’s favorite aspect of the Away Carry-On is the integrated lithium-ion battery, which can power your phone or tablet as you travel. Outlets are hard to come by in the airport, and if you work from your phone like our tester does, having a dead battery isn’t an option. Being able to take my own power source with them, without having to carry yet another accessory like a portable charger around felt empowering, they say. The most noticeable thing they didn’t like about Away’s case was its handle, though — it feels very flimsy, and at odds with the rest of the construction.

cabin

Rimowa Original Cabin Carry-On

  • $1,400.00 at Rimowa
  • Aluminum shell dents but doesn't crack
  • Lifetime warranty with complimentary repairs offered at several locations (stores, hotels, etc.) around the world
  • Interior dividers help compress excess cargo
  • Telescopic handles feel cheap in comparison to its body
  • Handle is plastic
  • Dimensions: 21.7 x 15.8 x 9.1 inches
  • Weight: 9.5 pounds
  • Capacity: 34.8 L

This is the status suitcase. Recognizable by its ridged aluminum exterior, Rimowa’s Original Cabin Carry-On is a go-to for first-class, full-time and famous travelers. (You’ve probably seen plenty of touring musicians with theirs covered in stickers. It’s the cool thing to do.) The German brand dates back to the late 19th century and production still takes place in Cologne, where the company is headquartered. It is now, however, owned by luxury conglomerate LVMH.

What does that mean? Well, the quality hasn’t changed, but the conversations around the suitcases have. LVMH elevated the brand, making it as much a cultural touchpoint as it is a celebrated titan of consumer product design. You’ll appreciate its all-aluminum exterior, but the handles, which are hard plastic, feel lackluster in comparison, our tester says.

rimowa suitcase on a table

But Rimowa’s aluminum suitcases are well-regarded for good reason. The shiny silver cases can take a beating, but they show their bruises boldly. This look’s not for everyone, especially if they bought the $1,400 suitcase for how it looks mint , fresh out of the box upon delivery. Our tester appreciates these, though, just like many others.

The dents and dings, though, are a good thing, a constant reminder your case is working. These dents could’ve been cracks if you were rolling a polycarbonate option. As such, think of aluminum, despite its connotations, as the ultimate choice: a material meant to be put to the test, because it’ll pass with flying colors.

Best Affordable Carry-On Luggage

style

  • Features double wheels for a smoother ride
  • Lightweight, which makes lifting it into bins easy
  • Available with and without a built-in charger
  • Some reviewers say it rolls too easily while its stagnant
  • So popular that certain colors are often out of stock
  • Dimensions: 21.5 x 15 x 8.5 inches
  • Weight: 7.4 pounds with charger, 6.6 pounds without charger
  • Capacity: 42 L

So often in the luggage world, functionality equal drab design. July’s sleek carry-on tries to buck the trend, melding first-class materials with looks to match. The crush-proof German polycarbonate shell protects 46 liters of storage including a hidden laundry bag, waterproof nylon lining and ejectable FastCharge USB-C battery. With two latch locks, the suitcase is a breeze to get into, our tester says. It can move easily from the airport to the sidewalk, thanks to smooth double wheels and a multi-height telescopic handle.

july

It’s common for luggage companies to offer customization, our tester adds. But while most brands stick to monograms, July gives you the option of whole words or phrases — albeit, short ones. The accessible price and lightweight build — it’s 8.4 pounds when empty, which made it easy for our tester to lift it into the overhead bin — make this suitcase from a startup Australian brand quite desirable. So much so that certain colors are sometimes backordered during peak travel months.

Best Carry-On Luggage for Overpackers

carry on pro

  • $295.00 at monos.com $355.00 (17% off)
  • Handle is heavy duty
  • Available in various colors, including seasonal shades and patterns
  • Front pocket expands and has plenty of stretch, providing more room to pack
  • Several users say its front pocket takes room from interior space
  • Laptop sleeve isn’t secure
  • Weight: 7.8 pounds
  • Capacity: 36 L

Most carry-ons are matte plastic of some kind, but Monos’s is much smoother and nice-looking than many in this price range (roughly $300), our tester says. This model comes with a big zip pocket on the front of the case, which has laptop sleeves and spots for books and passports galore. They also thought this case has a bit more “stretch” than other hard plastic shell carry-ons they’ve tried; that extra bit of give means they were able to force an extra pair of jeans in this case where they might not have been able to in another.

monos

When you try your best to not check luggage, this is a very big deal. They’re also someone who tends to drag the handle up and down constantly while skittering around the airport nervously, so this one was tested, well, thoroughly. This one feels more secure than most, which is a bit surprising because this case leans a bit more into the value realm than it does the high-end.

One negative, though: While they love the laptop sleeve, they really wish there was a TSA-approved lock to secure it like there is with the main compartment. Perhaps there are guidelines of what can and can’t be locked up, but they didn’t feel comfortable leaving the laptop in the non-locked zipper, even when it’s stowed away.

Another con, according to users, is its front pocket. While its front-loading laptop compartment is nice, it comprises interior luggage space.

Best Lightweight Carry-On Luggage

international carry on case

  • $475.00 at zerohalliburton.com $475.00 (0% off)
  • Wheels are super durable, even on uneven terrain
  • Incredibly lightweight at just 7.7 lbs
  • Side nubs help keep the suitcase elevated
  • Scalloped handle is comfortable and easy to grip
  • Pricy for polycarbonate
  • Side nubs can get in the way in tight quarters — like an overhead bin
  • Weight: 7.7 pounds
  • Capacity: 35 L
  • Warranty: 5 years

This is a polycarbonate case that feels premium, our tester says. While the plastic-shelled market is saturated, Zero Halliburton manages to set itself apart with the details. It has a handle far better than the competition, a scalloped grip handle near wheels for easy lifting, retractable rubberized side handles and an interior designed to help you organize your belongings. It’s on the upper edge of the polycarbonate spectrum for good reason.

This was their first higher-end carry-on luggage, our tester explained. They tested it thinking it was unlikely to live up to its nearly $500 price tag. Outside the usual airport run-ins, the ‘test’ included about as rigorous a challenge a suitcase could endure: the nearly millenia-and-then-some-old streets of Seville, Spain.

zero haliburton

The wheels, which feel cheap but clearly are not, held fast. Frankly, few things give them more anxiety than their imagination, our tester says, and imagining a wheel popping off and having to drag my carry-on (which was packed to the brim to avoid having to check a bag) around an unfamiliar city. In an airport, they wish for nothing to touch the ground unless absolutely necessary, so they also appreciate the nubs, for lack of a better word, on the sides of the case. They’re about an inch tall, and they make sure the suitcase can sit on the ground horizontally without touching the ground completely.

All things considered, $475 still feels like a lot of cash to spend on a suitcase, but, for frequent travelers, this is a small figure for peace of mind, our tester adds.

Best Two-Wheeled Carry-On Luggage

35l cabin travel case

Sterling Pacific 35L Cabin Travel Case

  • $1,495.00 at sterlingpacific.com
  • It's easy to pack because of its one-chamber design
  • The entire build, from its covers and wheel housings, is fully aluminum
  • Beautiful, elegant design accented by leather handles
  • Two-wheel design takes a while to get used to
  • The suitcase is fairly loud
  • Dimensions: 22.5 x 14 x 8.5 inches
  • Weight: 11.5 pounds

With two wheels, not four, upstart brand Sterling Pacific’s 35L Cabin Travel Case stands out. It’s also an unusual shape: a slender lid offsets a deep trunk, where you can stow quite a lot. And what you do put inside will surely be protected. The whole case is 100 percent aluminum: an aerospace-grade aluminum body, reinforced aluminum corners, aluminum wheel housings and an aluminum trolley.

Sure, it’s a little wonky-looking, but it was easy to adjust to after a few rolls, our tester says, plus the suitcase is less likely to snag on a cracked sidewalk or tile floor as four-wheeled designs do.

sterling pacific

In a sea of similar suitcases, both material or design, Sterling Pacific’s 35L Cabin Travel Case stands out — and for obvious reasons. But its deviations from the norm, if you will, aren’t without reason. The two-wheel design reduces the number of possible failure points, and the rectangular shape makes it easier to pack.

The $1,495 suitcase may come sans the legacy of a suitcase like Rimowa , for example, but Sterling Pacific is a new brand carving its own lane, catering to elite travelers with high standards — and staying with them through the life of their suitcase, offering a lifetime warranty and endless complimentary repairs.

Best Celeb-Founded Carry-On Luggage

beis the carry on roller

  • $218.00 at beistravel.com
  • Clean, minimal aesthetic is nearly free from logos
  • Handle is well-cushioned and comfy
  • Construction leaves a lot to be desired
  • Several users say it’s too big for international carry-ons
  • Two-year warranty isn’t as solid as many on this list
  • Dimensions: 14.6 x 22.8 x 9.8 inches
  • Weight: 8.36 pounds
  • Capacity: 49-61 L
  • Warranty: 2 years

Our tester says you can’t fully appreciate the cushioned handle on this carry-on until you’ve gripped it gliding through a crowded terminal. It’s a feature you never knew you needed.

Beis’s The Carry-On Roller is pretty basic otherwise, but the handle impressed — and so did its price. For just over $200, you get a polycarbonate suitcase with faux leather trim and a PVC interior that’s stain-resistant. That helps keep the inside tidy even when you spill your packed lotion or sunscreen, and it’s expandable, too, meaning you can fit a bit more in here than other, firmer suitcases.

Best Carry-On Luggage Under $200

calpak hue carry on suitcase

  • $195.00 at Calpak
  • The Interior offers plenty of space for even bigger shoes
  • Wheels roll incredibly well
  • All colorways earn scuffs really easily — except black
  • Only a two-year warranty, which isn’t as great as others on this list
  • Dimensions: 21.5 x 13.75 x 9.25 inches
  • Capacity: 44 L

After years of lugging their possessions around on their back and shoulder during myriad business trips, the Hue Carry-On reminded our tester just how nice a roll-aboard bag can be when done well. All four wheels rotate 360 degrees, and they’ll work with the bag tilted at pretty much any angle from vertical to near-horizontal, providing excellent agility. Plus, they roll seamlessly; our tester started making a game out of releasing it ahead of them while striding through empty airports and seeing how many seconds it took for it to slow down.

It’s conveniently expandable, adding an extra two inches of width in a few seconds with the pull of a zipper, which comes in handy on those trips where you need all 44 liters of space — or when you start accumulating souvenirs when you get there. (That capacity, by the way, is enough for close to a week’s luggage, even when half of it goes to size-14 gym shoes.) Yet even at full size, they never came close to having an issue fitting it into the overhead bin on Delta.

That said, the finish is easily marred; their bag boasted black marks after its very first trip, and new ones have appeared with every voyage since. The test bag’s cream finish (dubbed “Linen”) no doubt exacerbated the issue, but blemishes seem liable to be noticeable with any of the available colorways other than black. And the added pockets may be handy for the hyper-organized, but for most of us, they’re just in the way. Luckily, they’re easily removed — or ignored.

Best Carry-On Luggage You Can Buy on Amazon

level8 carryon suitcase

  • $169.00 at Amazon $169.00 (0% off)
  • Incredibly lightweight for the size
  • Variety of colors available
  • Wheels are quiet and durable
  • The exterior shell feels pretty cheap — and it is: it's only $159
  • Handles accumulate dirt too quickly
  • Dimensions: 22 x 15 x 8.5 inches
  • Capacity: 40 L

Our tester likes Level8’s simple suitcase, especially in aluminum . The polycarbonate version, however, is less compelling, they say — but still worth it, considering the price tag. For only $159, you get a decent-sized carry-on that compares to several competitors that sell for way more. Be wary of checking it, though, especially fully loaded, because the polycarbonate shell does feel thinner than Away’s, for example.

level8

The wheels, however, are a surprisingly solid upgrade, our tester says. They are awfully quiet, even on bumpy sidewalks or escalator ramps, which in theory doesn’t matter until you’re rolling a really loud one (like Sterling Pacific’s). Best of all, you can find these suitcases on Amazon, and can order them via Prime — which means you can get it to your apartment in time for any emergency trip.

Best Soft-Sided Carry-On Luggage

eastpak trans four connect medium suitcase

  • $210.00 at eastpak.com
  • Soft exterior is easier on the hands when lifting it into an overhead bin
  • Extremely spacious and roomy
  • Exterior straps help compress larger, softer items (i.e. sweaters).
  • Wheels are fairly unstable
  • Softshell doesn't protect valuable (or fragile items)
  • Dimensions: 27.5 x 15 x 11 inches
  • Weight: 8.55 pounds
  • Capacity: 67 L

Our tester rarely packs valuables in their carry-on. They’ll tow a backpack to separate their laptop, headphones and passport from the rest of what they pack because they like knowing they can access them if they really need them. With Eastpak’s Trans4 Carry-On, you’ll need to, too. The soft-sided suitcase doesn’t offer much in terms of protection, but it works well for clothing, shoes and toiletries. Straps on either side help compress the carry-on once fully packed, creating a compact, evenly distributed suitcase that easily glides through airports and airport security.

eastpak

Our tester did find, however, that the wheels were not the most stable. The bag was easily tipped over if the weight inside was not distributed properly, or if something snagged it as it rolled along. That being said, the soft sides are a refreshing departure from hard-sided plastic or aluminum. Not only is it quieter, but it’s softer on the hands when loading it into the overhead bin or pressing your knee on it to get it closed.

Best Carry-On Duffle Bag

Black Hole® Duffel Bag 40L

  • $159.00 at Patagonia
  • Tough-as-nails construction with 900D ripstop polyester
  • Daisy chain provides extra options for carry
  • Can be worn as a backpack
  • Stuffs into itself when not in use
  • Roomy compartment pretty much requires packing cubes and bags
  • Warranty is the shortest on this list
  • Dimensions: 21 x 13.7 x 10.6 inches
  • Weight: 2 pounds 0.8 ounces
  • Warranty: 14 months

A classic from Patagonia, the Black Hole Duffle is an extremely durable piece of luggage. It’s built with 900D ripstop polyester that prevents rips and tears, plus it’s got a TPU coating that protects it from water and the elements. It unzips to reveal a large main compartment and a massive mesh pocket, while the exterior features one outer pocket and a daisy chain for extra carry. As barebones and no-frills as this is, it’s built to last a lifetime — with proper care, of course.

At 40 liters, it has ample stuffing room, but some may be turned off with its unstructured style—if you’re an overpacker, this thing offers so much freedom that it’ll feel chaotic. Packing cubes are a must for those who crave organization, as the main compartment doesn’t offer any internal straps or additional pockets, aside from one mesh one, to tie die down.

One of our testers has owned their Black Hole Duffel for two years now and says it’s eaten scrapes and been dropped plenty, and still looks good as new. They love the freedom of loose packing and think it works best with packing cubes, especially when stuffing toiletries and delicate items inside. Its internal straps are heavily padded for comfort, plus the handle grips are so strong, it feels like it can handle more weight than it can possibly hold. Its only downside is its warranty; while Patagonia offers an iron-clad policy , the brand will repair its products for a fee.

Best Carry-On Backpack

a cotopaxi backpack

  • $190.00 at Amazon
  • Lots of mesh pockets for organizing your luggage
  • Every backpack has a one-of-a-kind style made with leftover fabrics
  • An excess of straps and pockets make for custom tailored carry
  • Unstructured for freedom of packing
  • No water bottle holder or pocket
  • Rolling the dice on color choice isn’t for everyone
  • Dimensions: 20 x 12 x 8 inches
  • Weight: 3 pounds 2 ounces

Cotopaxi’s Allpa travel pack is as zany, convenient, sustainable and smart as you’d expect from the Utah-based outdoor brand. If its vibrant colors aren’t attractive enough, its features might be. The Allpa unzips open like a binder to reveal 35 liters of internal storage neatly separated into four mesh pockets: three on one side, one large on the other.

The large mesh pocket, which you can consider the main compartment, fits about a week’s worth of clothes, while the opposite side features a mid-sized pocket large enough for a pair of shoes and two smaller ones for toiletries, electronics, a passport and maybe some cords. This thing has ample room and it’s made better by its lack of structure, allowing you to cram it in an overhead bin with some pliability. And yes, it complies with most airline carry-on limits.

The bag’s shell is made of a TPU-coated 1000D nylon, giving it some intense durability and ample weatherproofing. There’s a zipper on its exterior that lets you quickly reach inside your bag for an item, plus security straps that catch a zipper if someone tries to sneak a reach of their own. You can also tuck away the backpack and waist support straps and carry it from one of its four handles on each side.

While we haven’t tested the Allpa for travel, we’ve toyed with one during a tradeshow and found it impressive, functional and stylish. It’s a deceivably tough-as-nails bag that’s made of vivid colors from waste fabrics, and it’s got a surprising amount of room. While the one-of-a-kind colorway may be a turnoff for some who aren’t fans of randomizers, it’s what gives Cotopaxi its signature style, and we think it’s best that way.

Best Large Carry-On Backpack

style

  • Boxy design helps fit oversized items (like a motorcycle helmet)
  • Daisy chain allows for more custom carry
  • Thickly padded shoulder straps
  • Not carry-on ready for several airlines
  • It is still a backpack, and it can be quite cumbersome completely filled
  • Dimensions: 20.1 x 13.4 x 11 inches
  • Weight: 3 pounds 4.9 ounces
  • Capacity: 50 L

Our tester has not yet switched over to a rolling bag, and this incredibly versatile pack is a big reason why, they say. They’ve used it for everything from cross-country trips to delivering meals on wheels by bike around Brooklyn.

db

Super comfortable, even with lots of cargo, and the boxy shape and unzippable sections enable carrying even large awkward items like motorcycle helmets. As structured as it appears, it packs down accordion-style so it’s pretty easy to stash when not in use. The daisy chains on the back are great for tying on additional gear too, they explain.

Not convinced? Here are 5 reasons why you should carry a backpack, not a suitcase, on your next trip .

What to Consider

Should you take carry-on or check a bag.

For frequent travelers , this is a hotly contested debate. Busy business travelers prefer a carry-on bag because it lessens the likelihood it’ll get lost, stolen, opened or rummaged through. Plus, a carry-on helps you get from your arrival gate to the airport’s exit faster. For those that travel just a few times each year, checking a bag makes perfect sense, either because a credit card or loyalty program offers them for free or because they’d rather pay the extra for the peace of mind — and a few extra outfits .

To be honest, though, carry-on luggage is a must-buy no matter whether you travel with a bigger bag more often. What happens when you book a quick weekend getaway? Or, when you’re whisked away on a one- or two-day business trip? While two backpacks and a duffle might do the job, it’s easier to have a carry-on bag on standby. It’s the one suitcase everyone should own.

How Big Can a Carry-On Be?

There’s no universal guide for carry-on luggage . Although it’d make sense for each airline to adhere to size restrictions set by the TSA, each one has its own set of rules. Most airlines’ carry-on compartments can accommodate a bag or suitcase no bigger than 14 x 9 x 22 inches.

  • American Airlines : 14 x 9 x 22 inches
  • Delta Airlines : 14 x 9 x 22 inches
  • Frontier Airlines : 16 x 10 x 24 inches
  • JetBlue : 14 x 9 x 22 inches
  • Southwest Airlines : 16 x 10 x 24 inches
  • Spirit : 18 x 10 x 22 inches
  • United Airlines : 14 x 9 x 22 inches

How Heavy Can a Carry-On Be?

Few domestic airlines set maximum weight limits on carry-on luggage. In fact, few will ever even check your bag unless it seems like you’re struggling to wheel it through the airport, lift it onto the security belt or into the overhead bin. Frontier Airlines , for example, lists a maximum weight of 35 lbs, and since you have to pay for carry-on bags, you’ll be asked to place it on a scale at checkout — which happens at the check-in counter.

What Is Allowed in a Carry-On?

The TSA has seen it all. As such, there’s an ever-growing list of items the TSA has already approved for carrying on. You can access it here . (It’s appropriately titled “What Can I Bring?”) For any item that is not listed, you can easily message the TSA through Facebook or Twitter for a fast answer, the agency says.

It’s important to remember the long-standing rules, though. You can’t bring any liquids in bottles bigger than 3.4 ounces, and all of them must fit in a quart-sized bag. You can, however, bring e-cigarettes and vapes as long as they are not used in flight. In fact, you cannot pack these items in your checked bag. That being said, if these are marijuana products, you risk being referred to the local enforcement if found.

“TSA’s screening procedures are focused on security and are designed to detect potential threats to aviation and passengers. Accordingly, TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs, but if any illegal substance is discovered during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer,” the agency explains.

How to Pack Your Carry-On Luggage

Fold, Don’t Roll: Rolling actually makes your clothes more wrinkled, it takes up more room, and if you’re using space-saving packing tools, rolling just isn’t a good technique.

Compartmentalize: Organizational tools — packing cubes , vacuum bags, even Ziploc bags — facilitate more thoughtful packing.

Think in Layers: People often make the mistake of packing bulky items instead of many smaller layers.

Do Laundry: It goes back to the concept of a vacation still being your reality — there are still places to do laundry.

If you wear even a small amount of makeup, you likely own some form of a makeup bag to use while traveling. But if your go-to makeup bag is hard to see into, has a janky zipper, or is just a plastic bag, it’s time for an upgrade. Lucky for you, we thoroughly tested 26 popular makeup bags in our New York City studio to find out which ones are actually worth traveling with.

Over the course of five months of tests both in our New York City lab and during our real travels, we stuffed each makeup case to the brim with cosmetics, packed them into luggage, and threw them around the room (yes, really). And when all was said and done, there were 9 makeup cases we liked enough to permanently add to our luggage collections and recommend to you. Based on factors like quality, capacity, design, portability, value, and ease of use, here are our 9 favorite makeup bags and cosmetic cases.

Best Overall

Béis the cosmetic case.

  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5
  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Portability 5 /5

It’s durable, capacious, and nice to look at — plus, it has a large built-in mirror.

We feel it could benefit from interior straps to hold products down.

Reliable, stylish, and compact yet spacious, it’s no wonder this easy-to-pack cosmetic case from luggage brand Béis impressed us the most. The main compartment opens and closes smoothly, while a center compartment for brushes and other smaller items can be removed in a snap. There are even multiple additional pockets, pouches, and subtle slots in the bag, so there’s truly a place for everything. We also noticed that, because the interior of the case is so roomy, it’s incredibly easy to see every item inside when fully opened. And speaking of the interior, the bag actually boasts a large attached mirror on the inside, which comes in handy for in-transit makeup application.

During our five months of tests, the PU leather and hardware worked together to create efficient padding that kept the contents of the case safe and intact through bumps and drops — not to mention, the bag itself still looked good through the wear and tear. On many occasions, we tossed this case in a duffel before going through airport security and boarding a flight, and it still looks good as new. Though $68 may feel a bit pricey for a makeup bag, we felt this case’s thoughtful design and durable construction is worth it. You can grab the case in eight colors ranging from beige to berry.

Best for Organization

Relavel travel makeup case.

It’s one of the roomiest bags on our list and it’s lightweight.

It does take up a bit of space in your luggage.

While this case is on the larger side, we felt that ended up being more helpful than hurtful while traveling. We could fit pretty much everything in this thing: a whopping seven palettes, a whole brush collection, two foundation bottles, five toiletry bottles, over 15 lipsticks, an eyelash curler, hair spray, and a travel-sized moisturizer bottle, to be exact. Despite its size, the train case actually remains quite lightweight as well as organized thanks to its adjustable dividers and stretchable pouches on the inside. During our five-month test, we even ended up using this for both makeup and toiletries, since it provides plenty of space.

The interior additionally features layers of protective foam-like material that expertly keeps makeup bottles from cracking. We also found that both the interior and exterior of this case are easy to clean, should a spill or outdoor drop occur. Because it’s a little big, though, we’d recommend packing this case in a carry-on suitcase or even checked luggage rather than a tote or backpack. You can pick this case up in 20 different colors and prints.

Best Compact

Dagne dover mila toiletry organizer.

Dagne Dover

  • Capacity 4 /5

It’s the tiniest bag on our list, but it still fits a lot — plus, it’s easy to flatten when packing or storing.

It does, of course, fit less makeup than the larger bags on our list.

If you prefer to travel with something more compact, Dagne Dover’s Mila Toiletry Organizer is the best tiny makeup bag we tried. Though it’s by far the smallest pick on our list, we were surprised at just how much it could actually hold. Not only do plenty of palettes, lipsticks, and other essential cosmetics fit inside, but so do full-size makeup brushes. It comes with a removable mini divider set that helps hold items in place, though we liked how much more we could fit in the organizer if we skipped using the dividers. Because it fit so well in the palm of our hands, we had a good time whipping it across the room during our tests — and after being pelted against the wall and floor multiple times, we were amazed to find the organizer still looked fantastic and its contents barely budged. Even when wedged into an absolutely-stuffed-to-the-brim suitcase during our five-month test, the inside is so well-padded that all of our items remained protected and secure. We decided it’s the ultimate makeup bag for shorter trips since it takes up such little space and is super soft and squishable for easy packing.

The Details: 5.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 inches | Polyester, zinc alloy | Zipper closure

Best Budget

Narwey travel makeup bag.

  • Design 2 /5

It’s spacious, easy-to-clean, and more affordable than any other makeup bag on our list.

It could use a little extra padding for protection against drops.

There was something about this bag that just made us feel like we could easily access everything inside — there were no hidden pockets, no tight openings, and no unnecessary flaps that covered up the contents (other than one to protect makeup brushes, but it’s see-through). The zipper opening is easy to maneuver and appears to be well-made, while the canvas frame feels sturdy and protective. The bag got a bit dirty during our tests, but it cleaned up beautifully with minimal effort. We especially loved just how much it could fit: multiple brushes in each of its eight brush pockets, three palettes, three eyeliners, four lipsticks, a mascara, and a lash curler. Perhaps that’s why we were so shocked to discover the bag doesn’t take up much space in our luggage, and it is a fraction of what many other bags on our list cost.

The Details: 9 x 6.7 x 3.5 inches | Canvas | Zipper closure

lululemon Go Getter Pouch

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5
  • Design 4 /5

It’s sleek, water-repellant, and capable of holding way more than you’d expect given its compact size.

After five months of testing, it is showing makeup stains.

The feature we found most interesting about this bag is that, when empty, it appears very thin and compact. However, once stuffed with makeup, it actually holds a crazy amount of stuff, including larger items like perfumes, dry shampoos, lotions, and creams. We love the pouch’s nylon construction, which looks sleek and allows dirt and liquids to slide right off. The bag’s lack of padding keeps it lightweight and flexible; we wouldn’t recommend keeping any glass bottles or jars in it, but it’s also not likely to tear, stretch, or snag (that’s lululemon for you!). Because there’s no true framing, the bag is easy to flatten or mold to any space or suitcase. While there is a small exterior zip pocket and an interior mesh one, the pouch really has no built-in organization — though we don’t think that’s a deal-breaker. Get it in gray sage or black.

The Details: 8.7 x 3.3 x 6.3 inches | Polyester, nylon | Zipper closure

Best Train Case

Leatherology train case.

Leatherology

The leather exterior is soft to the touch and the interior is deceptively roomy.

During our five-month test, we found the tall design to be awkward for packing.

Easy to clean and pack, we’re obsessed with this cute and compact train case from ultra-reliable Leatherology. It zips open in a way that allows you to see everything inside, plus there are interior pockets of all sizes to help keep everything organized. Though we felt it was slightly flimsy when we first picked it up, we quickly realized it’s sturdier than it looks, and only becomes more so when filled with makeup. Its subtle padding is also no joke, as it completely protected the contents while being thrown around, shaken, and dropped. The exterior leather is soft and supple, the interior lining is high quality, and the main compartment is deep and spacious despite its overall compact size. If you’re looking for a smaller makeup bag that’ll still fit more than just the essentials, we recommend this train case in one of 14 available colors.

The Details: 7.5 x 5 x 5.2 inches | Leather, nickel | Zipper closure

Best Hanging

Boacay hanging travel toiletry bag.

  • Quality 4 /5
  • Capacity 3.5 /5
  • Portability 4 /5

It holds so many products, and it folds up nicely and easily.

Even when folded, it takes up more space than most makeup bags on our list.

Travel hanging organizers are a whole different ball game — and once you use one, you may never go back. This one opens up into four large sections, each with a transparent, zippered sleeve to store (and easily see) your makeup and toiletries. Two of the sections have straps to hold products in place, and a hook on the top section allows you to hang the bag anywhere. During our tests, we discovered the bag is sturdy and easy to clean in addition to being large enough for different types of products, from makeup brushes to hairspray.  Even when we packed it to the brim, it still folded up with minimal effort and kept our makeup in place during drop tests. While it’s relatively thin, it is somewhat long and space-consuming, so we’d probably only pack this in a checked bag rather than a carry-on, or use the makeup bag itself as a personal item. Throughout our five months of testing, we did notice that bottles can easily slip out of the plastic pockets if the case is hung up without first zipping the pockets.

The Details: 11.4 x 3.8 x 7.5 inches | Zipper closure

Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set

During our five months of tests, all stains and smudges were easily cleaned to keep the case looking new.

It doesn’t have organization features or particularly thick cushioning.

Upon testing, this stood out for two reasons: it comes with not one, but two luxe pouches, and the interior is lined with the same soft leather featured on the exterior. We appreciated how wide both bags open, despite their top-zip construction, making it easy to see everything inside. The larger of the two bags is so spacious, we were able to fit an impressive amount of makeup inside — in fact, we felt we realistically probably wouldn’t even need the smaller bag for makeup, and could instead use it for small toiletries or loan it to a travel companion. There aren’t any dividers or straps inside these bags, so the products inside may shift in-transit if not packed to the brim. Still, we loved the set because it’s one of the nicest-looking options we tried (plus, it comes in 14 gorgeous colors).

The Details: 12 x 7 x 3.5 inches (large), 8 x 5 x 2.5 inches (small) | Leather | Zipper closure

Best Splurge

Cuyana travel beauty case.

  • Quality 4.5 /5
  • Portability 4.5 /5

It has a pocket for everything and will hold up through years of travel.

It’s on the heavier side and the most expensive bag on our list.

If you’re looking for something that does it all and is built to last, consider Cuyana’s Travel Beauty Case. It’s the most expensive option on our list, but after putting it to the test, we believe it’s worth the hefty price tag. The zipper glides smoothly when opening and closing it, the construction is super sturdy, it’s not bulky, it’s packed with pockets as well as a removable pouch, dirt and scuffs are easy to wipe off — we could truly go on and on about this case. But let’s go back to the interior: Though the case is on the smaller side, it boasts plenty of slots for products, including a dedicated pocket and four straps for makeup brushes, a leather flap to protect contents, a small removable pouch for your tiniest cosmetics, and an additional elastic pocket. We felt the leather was quite stiff, which prompted us to get a little rougher with it during our drop and shake tests. Sure enough, it effectively protected the many palettes, lipsticks, tools, and more we placed inside. Even after five months of using the case during our travels, it still looks good as new and has protected all of our items.

The Details: 10.2 x 6.2 x 3.1 inches | Leather | Zipper closure

Other Makeup Bags We Liked

Several other makeup bags almost made our list, but were cut due to issues revealed during testing.

Béis The Hanging Cosmetic Case : This bag is super sturdy, protective, and well made. However, the actual makeup section of this multi-paneled case managed to feel both bulky and too small to fit all our makeup products.

Away The Cosmetics Bag : We liked the sleek, minimalist design; a unique interior that features makeup storage with a clear zippered divider; and five heavy-duty makeup brush slots on the opposite side. But during tests, it fit considerably less makeup than many others on our list and it didn’t keep products very secure.

Vera Bradley Women's Recycled Lighten Up ReActive Cosmetic Makeup Organizer Set : This set proved to be spacious, easy to clean, and convenient thanks to two transparent side panels on the larger of the two bags. Still, we feel the design is very basic and it lacks organization features, straps, and pockets.

To thoroughly and accurately test each of the 26 makeup cases in our lab, we filled them with various props (including four makeup brushes, two makeup palettes, one bottle of foundation, one eyelash curler, one mascara, one lipstick, four pre-filled toiletry bottles, and one hairspray) to see how much they could truly hold. We then placed the filled makeup bags into both a half-packed backpack and carry-on luggage, making note of how much space each bag took up. Next, we took the makeup bags out of the luggage and dropped them, shook them, and tossed them in the air to test how much the contents inside moved or if there was any damage.

Throughout our tests, we rated each makeup bag based on ease of use, quality, capacity, design, portability, and value. The makeup bags included in this article are the picks that scored highest in each category. Testers will continue using the bags and collecting insights for six months following our initial tests.

Tips for Buying a Makeup Bag for Travel

Decide how much space you need.

If you like to wear a full face of makeup on your travels, you should seek out a larger makeup bag with built-in organization (think pockets, brush straps, dividers, and removable pouches). If you’re more of a mascara-and-go kind of person, a super roomy cosmetic case is unnecessary — it’ll just take up extra space in your luggage, and your few makeup products inside will likely move around too much, increasing their chances of breaking.

Prioritize organizational features

While a makeup case with one large, main compartment might sound sufficient, you may want to reconsider. If you plan on packing multiple types of products (like palettes, brushes, bottles, and tubes), a makeup bag with organizational features, such as a train case , will come in handy more than you’d think. As explained above, bags with extra slots, pockets, straps, and compartments help you keep track of all your cosmetics and do your makeup quickly.

Determine the best material

Before buying a makeup bag, think about potential travel mishaps that could occur. Are you prone to spills? Do you tend to overpack? What if your luggage takes a beating in the cargo hold? Keeping that in mind, choose a cosmetic case material that works for you. Leather and nylon handle makeup spills and dirt well, while cases made of neoprene or mesh will keep your luggage lightweight. It’s hard to completely avoid scuffs and scratches, but materials such as polyester and high-quality leather hold up better than others. And if you’re someone who hates rummaging through a dark makeup bag? Go for a clear material or a bag that opens like a clamshell so you can easily see all of its contents.

It’s important not to overstuff or understuff your makeup bag. Overstuffing can cause spills and stretching/ripping of the makeup bag itself, while understuffing allows your makeup bag’s contents to move around more, increasing their chances of breaking. It’s also wise to take special care of more delicate items like brushes and glass bottles. Brushes should be strapped down and covered by a flap if possible, and you shouldn’t have to bend the bristles to make them fit. If your cosmetic case has smaller interior pockets or slots, keep glass bottles in there — if not, stand them up straight rather than laying them down, and pack other products around them to keep them from sliding around.

Yes — just keep TSA liquid rules in mind. Like any other liquid container, makeup containers (like liquid foundation bottles, moisturizer tubes, etc.) should not exceed 3.4 fluid ounces each. If your liquid makeup goes over that limit, you’ll have to store it in your checked luggage.

Use a wet cloth, a wipe, or even an antibacterial spray and a paper towel to wipe your makeup bag clean. Just make sure you’re not using anything with bleach!

3 travel apps you need before your next flight to keep you out of long TSA lines

next travel case

Travel can be stressful, especially when airports are involved.

Flights get delayed, or, worse still, canceled.

Ever-growing security lines sometimes snake through the airport, putting you in jeopardy of missing your flight.

Last-minute changes can happen and derail months of planning, potentially starting off your trip on a bad note.

Programs like TSA PreCheck and Global Entry can help travelers, but there are also ways that tech can help you prepare for your journey and stay aware of the curveballs that might come your way.

Learn more: Best travel insurance

Here are three apps to download before your next trip.

Watch the video above to learn which three apps you need before your next trip.

Airline app

Download your airline’s app!

It keeps all of your travel information in one, easy-to-access place.

Turn on notifications to get immediate alerts when it's time to check in so you'll know if there are any delays or gate changes.

Once you have a boarding pass, save even more time by adding it to the digital wallet on your smartphone.

The lines at airport security can be very unpredictable. Sometimes there is no wait, other times, the line extends into the check-in area.

The Transportation Security Agency’s (TSA) app, MyTSA, tries to make the wait a little more predictable and helps you determine what to expect, especially if you’re traveling from one of the busiest airports in the US.

The app provides a real-time look at your selected airport's wait time, any FAA delays, and which TSA PreCheck lanes are open.

The app also uses historical data to help you plan ahead. So, even if your flight is three days away, the app can show you what you’re likely to encounter that day based on previous experiences.

It’s also a useful resource if you’re unsure about what you can or can’t pack in your carry-on and checked luggage.

Mobile Passport Control

If you’re traveling abroad, the Mobile Passport Control app makes your return through U.S. customs much faster.

The app is a digital version of the Customs and Border Patrol Declaration Form that anyone entering the U.S. is required to fill out.

You can save up to 12 profiles in the app, and only one form is needed per family, per residence.

The app doesn't work at every airport, so check  the CBP website to see where you can use it.

Nicki Minaj's Husband Kenneth Petty Gets Judge's Permission to Travel Internationally for Pink Friday 2 World Tour

Petty, who's been married to Minaj for five years, cites "childcare" and "various purposes" to travel with the rapper to several countries.

Kenneth Petty will get to spend more time with his wife, Nicki Minaj , as she embarks on the international leg of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, set to begin in Toronto on April 30.

According to documents filed on Petty's behalf on April 15, the 46-year-old sought permission from a federal judge to travel and provide "child care" of their 3-year-old son, along with other "various purposes."

“Defendant Kenneth Petty ('Mr. Petty'), by and through counsel, hereby applies to the Court for an Order allowing him to travel out of the country with his family for his wife’s tour and her professional purposes,” the filing reads, as shared by media legal reporter Meghann Cuniff .

It continues, "Mr. Petty and Mrs. Petty believe Mr. Petty is necessary to accompany the family on the tour for various purposes, including childcare. The anticipated travel schedule begins on April 17, 2024 and continues periodically to July 14, 2024. The travel schedule calls for travel to several countries including Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, and Romania. The Government has been notified about this application and takes no position. Mr. Petty’s probation officer has been notified of this application and has no objection to the travel request."

Cuniff added on Tuesday that Petty's request was approved by Judge Michael Fitzgerald in L.A.

Good news for Nicki Minaj: Her husband is now legally authorized to accompany her on her Pink Friday 2 world tour. Judge Michael Fitzgerald in Los Angeles signed the travel order today for Kenneth Petty, who is on federal probation for failing to register as a sex offender. pic.twitter.com/ehSIiAuXlI — Meghann Cuniff (@meghanncuniff) April 16, 2024

Petty will need to give his probation officer details regarding his travel and itinerary, in addition to being required to check in with his P.O. upon his return to Los Angeles at the tour's conclusion in July.

Petty is a registered sex offender, stemming from the 1994 rape of Jennifer Hough , who was 16 years old at the time of the alleged incident. In 2023, he was required to fulfill 120 days of house arrest after making threats online to rapper Offset .

In 2019, Petty accompanied his wife during a Nicki Wrld Tour show in Frankfurt, Germany. Security guard Thomas Weidenmuller alleged he was assaulted by the couple backstage. Weidenmuller sued the Pettys for $732,000 in 2022, but the couple reportedly didn't respond to the lawsuit, and may have to cough up $503,318 thanks to a recent default judgment.

The Armoury Chamber is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace’s complex and is one of the oldest museums of Moscow, established in 1851. It showcases Russian history and displays many cherished relics. Definitely make sure to check out this museum while you’re here!

The Moscow Kremlin

The churches inside the Moscow Kremlin are the Cathedral of the Dormition, Church of the Archangel, Church of the Annunciation, and the bell tower of Ivan Veliki (a church tower).

The five-domed Cathedral of the Dormition is considered the most famous. It was built from 1475–1479 by an Italian architect and has served as a wedding and coronation place for great princes, tsars, and emperors of Russia. Church services are given in the Kremlin’s numerous cathedrals on a regular basis.

The Grand Kremlin Palace was the former Tsar’s Moscow residence and today it serves as the official workplace of the President of the Russian Federation (Vladimir Putin seems to have bagged that title for life) .

This iconic cathedral has become a symbol of Russia due to its distinguishing architecture and prominent position inside the Red Square. It’s one of the most beautiful, wonderful, and mesmerizing historical cathedrals in the world!

St. Basils Cathedral

The interior of the church surprises most people when they visit. In contrast to the large exterior, the inside is not so much one large area, but rather a collection of smaller areas, with many corridors and small rooms. There are 9 small chapels and one mausoleum grouped around a central tower.

Visiting the inside is like walking through a maze, there are even small signs all around the cathedral tracing where to walk, and pointing you in the right direction! The walls are meticulously decorated and painted with intricate floral designs and religious themes.

The park is beautiful and well maintained with paths to walk on and benches to rest on. The park contains three separate gardens: the upper garden, middle garden, and lower garden.

The Alexander Garden

Located in the upper garden, towards the main entrance to the park is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. This monument was created in 1967 and contains the body of a soldier who fell during the Great Patriotic War!

The park stretches along all the length of the western Kremlin wall for about half a mile. Due to its central location in the city, it’ll be easily accessible when you’re out exploring The Red Square.

If you’re planning a solo Moscow itinerary, you should have no need to worry, as the city is also considered safe for solo travelers, even women. Stay in the populated areas, try and not travel alone late at night, and never accept rides from strangers or taxis without a meter and correct signage.

The threat of natural disasters in Moscow is low, with the exception of severe winters when the temperature can dip below freezing! Bring a good, warm jacket if you visit in Winter.

However, please note that Russian views on homsexuality are far less accepting than those in Western Europe. Likewise, Non-Caucasian travellers may sadly encounter racism in Russia .

Don’t Forget Your Travel Insurance for Moscow

ALWAYS sort out your backpacker insurance before your trip. There’s plenty to choose from in that department, but a good place to start is Safety Wing .

They offer month-to-month payments, no lock-in contracts, and require absolutely no itineraries: that’s the exact kind of insurance long-term travellers and digital nomads need.

Amadeus’s Travel4Impact Goes Global as Greenwashing Cases Make Headlines

Jesse Chase-Lubitz , Skift

April 26th, 2024 at 9:56 AM EDT

A program newly open to Americans as well as Europeans promises to educate travel company leaders on sustainable practices.

Jesse Chase-Lubitz

Amadeus , the travel technology giant, is offering a program that provides subsidized sustainability training for small and medium enterprises in the tourism industry to the Americas for the first time.

The Spanish company has run the program Travel4Impact in Spain for Europeans for the last three years. What’s new is the program will now also accept applications from companies in the Americas. Applications close on April 30.

The program taps into a general trend toward positive-impact travel by offering C-level executives from small and medium companies a fully funded, six-month training and tutoring program taught by professors at IE University, or Universidad Instituto de Empresa, a Spanish business school. The program will offer spots to around 40 companies and start in September 2024.

The program aims to help companies incorporate sustainable practices and digital strategies into their business models and provides a network of professionals and companies making similar efforts.

“People want to travel, but they want to leave a positive impact,” said Poonam Rawat-Hahne, founder and CEO of Fernweh Fair Travel, in a webinar run by Amadeus on Tuesday. Rawat-Hahne added that she saw a niche for travel operators and agents wanting to take social impact into account increase after the pandemic.

“That niche exists,” said Jake Haupert, CEO of the Transformational Travel Council. “It’s at the bedrock of why we travel — those experiences, those opportunities to connect and learn from others are instrumental.”

Greenwashing Cases

In recent months, greenwashing cases in the travel industry have made headlines. A Dutch court found the airline KLM had put out a misleading advertising campaign that hyped up the company’s environmental image.

Booking.com ended its “Travel Sustainable” program, highlighting sustainable properties, in March after the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets said the program “was a possibly misleading sustainability claim.”

“This is a really positive sign of our industry,” says Haupert of these cases. “That these things are happening now. People are going to be thinking a little bit differently before they go to market and make certain claims.”

The Amadeus-backed course changes each year based on the needs of the participants. In 2023, the syllabus addressed the implications of emerging technologies for the industry and specific companies and how to apply circular economic principles.

Following the completion of the course, participants can continue attending future sessions on topics like artificial intelligence and net zero policies.

The program doesn’t appear to lead companies to achieving any specific certifications schemes.

“Our objective at Travel4Impact is to amplify the impact of small businesses by promoting a purpose-driven innovation ecosystem,” an Amadeus spokesperson said.

DHS: Confirmed case of measles found in Dane County

MADISON, Wis. (WSAW) - The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has confirmed a case of measles in a person living in Dane County, with employment in Rock County.

DHS, in coordination with Public Health Madison & Dane County and Rock County Public Health, is working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the measles virus. Additional information will be shared as the investigation continues.

DHS says they are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the virus. Their ongoing investigation has identified the following exposure locations in public settings for which a full list of exposed people cannot be obtained:

  • Kwik Trip, 603 W Madison Ave. Milton, WI, on Sunday, April 21, 2024, between 2:30 and 5 p.m.
  • SSM Health Dean Medical Group - Janesville, 3200 E. Racine St., Janesville, WI, on Monday, April 22, 2024, between 1 and 5 p.m., and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Janesville, 3400 E. Racine St., Janesville, WI, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • uBreakiFix, 2810 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI on Monday, April 22, 2024, between 5 and 7:30 p.m.
  • Noodles and Co., 110 Limestone Pass, Cottage Grove, WI on Monday, April 22, 2024, between 5:15 and 7:45 p.m.

Cases of measles have been rare in Wisconsin due to high vaccination rates, but measles is highly contagious and can cause serious health complications for those who are not vaccinated.

According to the the CDC, 7 – 14 days after a measles infection the first symptoms will present. They include fever over 104°, cough, running nose, red, watery eyes, and possibly pink eye. Two to three days later tiny white spots (Koplik spots) may appear inside the mouth. Three to five days after symptoms measles rash will begin. It usually begins as flat red spots that appear on the face at the hairline and spread downward to the neck, trunk, arms, legs, and feet. Small raised bumps may also appear on top of the flat red spots. The spots may become joined together as they spread from the head to the rest of the body.

According to the CDC, about 3 out of 100 people who get two doses of MMR vaccine will get measles if exposed to the virus. However, they are more likely to have a milder illness and are also less likely to spread the disease to other people. The best way to protect yourself from measles is to get the measles vaccine (MMR). Two doses of the measles vaccine are 97% effective at preventing the disease.
