Chris Corner a.k.a IAMX formerly a member of the band Sneaker Pimps who has been creating his own brand of dark synth-pop since 2004.
IAMX is the solo project of Chris Corner who was originally part of the band Sneaker Pimps. Corner began the project in 2004 in London as a merger of independent music and visual art. His music is varied due to his genre crossing sound but aso his ranging production techniques which have been known to produce anything from burlesque inspired dance tracks to emotive ballads.
Since 2006 Chris has based his recording and general life in Berlin and it has heavily influenced his lyrical subject matter, including themes such as death, love, decadence, critique of religion and politics, alienation and addiction often associated with the capital.
IAMX emphasises the eccentricity within his music when performing live, his tours now famed for unusual stage outfits and body painting. Corner and his team also design all the art and props that make up his stage design as well as directing the video he projects throughout the show. The video footage along with his music videos have been known to cause controversy in the media. His latest album 'The Unified Field' was released in 2013, and to date his discography stands at five albums, all of which were self-released and produced by Corner.
Live reviews
I was fortunate to see IAMX on their brief Pledgemusic-funded tour of the US. If you get a chance, you absolutely should, especially as Chris Corner's struggles with health, mental and physical, have made such things rarer now than they used to be. (I'm going to say "they", although it's Chris Corner's brainchild, because Janine Gezang and Alberto Alvarez, as well as new member Sammi Doll, are essential parts of the live experience.) IAMX is best described as dark electronica, but there's a wide range of musical and artistic influence, from cabaret to orchestral and sometimes purely visual and sensory inspiration. The lyrics of their songs don't shy away from hard topics. Sex, politics, drug use, abuse, the music industry; overwhelming anxiety and ego-shattering love: it's cathartic and unguarded and honest.
The music is great just to listen to, but in person, in a fairly intimate venue, the experience is like the difference between your first kiss and the most mindblowing intimate encounter of your life. Both are great, but in different galaxies. Chris & co completely cast a spell on the audience, aided by amazing costuming and lighting, and the energy in the room was palpable. There's a lot of fan interaction, touching and inviting the front rows to interact. I remember feeling transported, as if this was not quite a human encounter. The music does not lose anything (and might gain something) for being performed live, and the stage presence of everyone in the band as well as their interactions with each other is completely compelling. I don't have a single regret about the show. IAMX definitely explores their own catalogue as well: I was thrilled to hear quite a bit of the new album, but some of my favorites from older records were played as well.
Amazingly, this show took place during some of the most hellish weeks of Chris's recent health problems. It may take some waiting (though Chris is performing on StageIt over the next few months with awesome acoustic shows that walk through the older albums -- I totally recommend the online experience) but IAMX should not be missed, especially in a small venue.

My wife and I saw IAMX at the Mod Club in Toronto, Ontario, last night. We absolutely loved IAMX live (it was our first time ever seeing the live show), and really enjoyed it. The only thing we didn't like was the overall waiting times. The doors opened at 8pm, and the club was just dark with some radio music playing until a little after 9pm, when the opening band started playing. The opener was done around 9:45pm, and then the club was back to being dark and just playing some radio, with nothing really happening, until around 10:23pm, when IAMX finally got on stage. I think it would've been better to have either a second opener or maybe some sort of DJ or someone to keep the crowd interested. There were a lot of people on their phone apps and even napping until IAMX showed up, even during the opening band's performance. It was pretty dead energy-wise, and even my wife fell asleep. It was really boring until 10:23. Next time, we're planning on not showing up until much much later, to avoid that, as we were both really restless and bored for over 2 hours (especially from 8-9, and then 9:45-10:23). Otherwise, IAMX's performance itself was amazing and we loved it. Just the waiting was awful.
The solo music project of Chris Corner of Sneaker Pimps fame, this London performer and visual artist is fully invested in the mentality and ideals of IAMX. The musician has successfully blended his music, art and overall identity since beginning the project back in 2004. Almost like a modern day Manson, his live performance is partly as much about Chris as a person as it is his music. His lyrical subjects fluctuate from sexual ambiguity, identity, love, death, religion and politics and parts of the show become incredibly intense as Corner delves deep within his own psyche and shares everything he finds with his audience.
His androgynous image further helps the subject matter of gender identity and it goes well with his theatrical and evocative performance style. The costumes are always a spectacle of their own as they change frequently throughout the evening. It is all pretty complex and at times it feels as though you have walked into a live exhibition at the Serpentine gallery however on the whole in really does engage you and leaves you wanting more as all great art tends to.
IAMX was absolutely amazing!!! That was the best show I've seen in years! The performance was on-point, moving, excellent, energetic -- just a whole lot of fun. The music was mixed perfectly. It sounded crystal clear and deep. They seem to have great chemistry, and they were electric! The light show and the imagery on the screen were incredible. The crowd was so into it, myself included; I felt transported. I truly couldn't believe the show - any show, really - could be THAT good.
I will say, I have known a decent portion of IAMX's music for a few years but I haven't heard all the songs, so I'm not a hardcore fan, and that makes it all the more astounding that I loved this show more than any other I've seen before (and I've seen a lot). It didn't matter that I didn't know all the songs - it didn't change how freaking amazing it was. I would absolutely come out to see IAMX again, in a heartbeat.
Incredible as ever, IAMX performance at the Electric Ballroom was outstanding. The new album Alive in New Light is right up there with their best, and their performance of the new songs was full on. Joined on stage by Kat von D, whose vocals added a spine-tingling savage sweetness. They did not fail to include old favourites such as 'I Come with Knives and 'your Joy is my Low' although it must be increasingly difficult to choose songs now from an 8 album repertoire. Simply spellbinding.
Magnificent!! Awesomeness.... sharp brilliant voice, unique voice, this band deserves more....
I went a bit sad because of the place and I didn't expect people to be so alive and so much screaming and applauding - very proud about this :) Chris coming for a second encore... OMG! :) I think he loved us too. Anyway, I left happy and energized and this concert will stay in my heart for a long time from now on... Looking forward to see them back one more time again and again :)
After finding IAMX by chance, I completely fell in love with Chris Corner's work. He is a GENIUS! I knew the Sneaker Pimps and loved their stuff but as a solo artist - under the moniker IAMX, he is really shines. Travelled all the way from London to Poland to see him with his talented band and was blown away. SEE THEM LIVE! They are a visual and aural treat. Sensory overload is an understatement. You won't be disappointed.
If you haven't seen them live before, you should definitely make the effort to come out and see them! They put on an amazing show!!! And, since they typically play smaller venues, you're guaranteed to be pulled in, whether it's from their fantastic sound, their visuals, or just the energy they're pushing out from the stage.
IAMX is a passionate band. You'll walk out of their show a huge fan, if you weren't already.
This show was unreal, and everything from the lighting to the merch stand to the drinks (nice White Claw offering, White Oak Music Hall!) were perfect. Still blown away y'all were 8 feet from me in a tiny room. Tried to buy up all the merch I could to give back for the years of free MIND-BLOWING art you've given me. Much love, IAMX.

IAMX Announces 'Machinate' Tour Dates
Since tickets for most shows are very limited, Corner and his team decided to include exclusive streaming shows for those unable to attend venue events.
IAMX has revealed their first live tour dates since 2020's Echo Echo world tour and its subsequent cancellation due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The 2022 Machinate Tour showcases Chris Corner performing on a modular synthesizer setup in celebration of his 2021 album Machinate.
The set includes exhilarating live renditions of the IDM-forward album alongside IAMX favorites from previous albums, reworked for the modular and performed solo by Corner.
"I started IAMX as a solo project, it was just me and a hard case full of weird electronic devices before it grew into the full fledged band-backed live show monster it's now known for." says Corner, "The Machinate shows will celebrate IAMX's beginnings while merging my performance with all the elements I have added over the years - more gadgets, a full light show, stage design, visuals plus the sweat and tears we all love and need."
Corner's trademark mesmerizing vocals will carry the shows. Sometimes raw, pristine and clear, sometimes cleverly manipulated through experimental loop machines and effects, modified beyond recognition to merge with the beats and soundscape of the modular synthesizer. An immersive light show designed by Corner will also accompany the performance.
The tour kicks off in late April with an open rehearsal at IAMX's home studio in Southern California, and will stop in a limited number of innovative spaces and venues throughout Western USA and Europe, including Sinner's Day Festival on June 24th, with more shows to be announced.
