A First-Timer’s Guide to the Philippines

Are you traveling to the Philippines for the first time? Here’s a guide that covers everything you need to know about the Philippines — including currency, weather, things to do and more!

I’ll also be adding personal tips from years of living here as a local.

An Overview of The Philippines

How to get around, is it safe to visit the philippines, how much does it cost to travel around the philippines, how long should you stay in the philippines, what to eat and drink, what to read next:.

The Philippines is an archipelagic country made up of over 7000 islands. It’s made up of 3 main island groups: Luzon , Visayas , and Mindanao. Its capital is Metro Manila , which is located in the NCR Region in Luzon.

This unique geography means several things:

• It has an abundance of natural resources. It has numerous islands which are ideal for water activities such as swimming, snorkeling, diving, and island hopping.
• Because the communities are scattered, you will find that people speak different dialects! However, Filipino and English languages are still the main languages used.
• Different cultures, arts, and cuisine can be found in each province!

US passport holders do not need to secure a visa before flying in. US and other citizens can enter visa free provided that:

• Stay is no longer than 30 days
• Passport is valid for at least 6 months
• There is proof of onward passage.

The Philippines uses Philippine peso as its currency. Currently, exchange rates are about $1 to P50.

The locals speak both Filipino and English. The Philippines is one of the few countries in Asia with high fluency in the English language, so communication is easy. The locals may not be able to communicate with you perfectly, but you’ll understand each other.

The Philippines is a tropical country with 2 distinct seasons: dry season (November to May) and rainy season (June to October).

The dry season is the best time to visit this country. In particular,  December to February  are cool months with few rainfall so these are the best months to book your ticket. Take note that December is holiday season, so expect peak rates. April to May is summer time so expect good weather in general, but it also coincides with school break so it’s peak season as well.

Personal Tip : The rainy season is considered off-peak season, so you might choose to visit during this time to experience less tourists and cheaper rates. I like traveling during off-peak season, but it’s a gamble since you’ll never know when a typhoon will enter the country. It’s also worth nothing that some areas in the Philippines aren’t as affected by typhoons due to location or geographical features, such as Palawan.

Because the country is made up of islands, you will need to strategically plan your route (and budget!). For example, if you’re flying from Manila to Boracay or Palawan, you will need to take a local flight. Direct land or sea travel may not always be available or may take too long.

Check out low-cost airlines Cebu Pacific and Airasia . Websites such as Traveloka also offer good rates for flights and accommodations.

On land, public transportation is available in major cities. This includes tricycles, jeepneys, and buses. There are also taxis.

Personal Tips :

• Install Angkas (for motorcycles rides) or Grab (car or taxi) for easy transport.

The Philippines isn’t as cheap as other places in Southeast Asia — but it’s still cheap if you’re coming from US or other Western countries with high exchange rate.

Here are the general prices:

• Accommodation : Standard room (good for 2 people) – P2000-2500
• Meals : P100 per person
• Activities : Island hopping tour (joiner rate) – P1000-1500 per person

Prices depend on each location. Generally, a day’s budget can be anywhere from P700 to P1500 if you’re traveling with at least one other person (including accommodation, food, and tours). This excludes other extra activities such as diving.

Best Places to See in the Philippines

This is a general overview of the major tourist attractions in the Philippines. I have written a separate, more in-depth guide about the Best Places to Visit in the Philippines .

This is the capital city of the Philippines. It’s home to NAIA international airport and is often the entry point of tourists. You can take a tour in Manila or proceed directly to connecting flights to other locations.

Manila has a bit of cultural sights, but it also has horrendous traffic and pollution. As most locals will advise you, it’s best to get away from here as quickly as possibly, unless you really want to see Intramuros or the shopping malls.

Palawan is top tourist attraction in the Philippines. Even if you’re not a mainstream traveler, don’t skip this yet! Palawan has amazing nature sights and activities that you can’t find anywhere else.

Head to Puerto Princesa to see the Underground River , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then proceed to El Nido to see the Small Lagoon, Big Lagoon, and other beautiful islands. Transfer to Coron to see Kayangan Lake (considered the cleanest lake in Asia), Twin Lagoon, and other exotic spots.

If you’re looking for low-key places, Balabac offers gorgeous pristine islands, including Onuk Island . Port Barton offers a quiet beach getaway with island hopping and waterfall activities. Aside from these, you can also visit Dumaran, Linapacan, and Sibaltan.

Cebu is another main tourist attraction in the Philippines.

While in Cebu City, you can do a city tour, go on food tripping to taste delicacies such as lechon, or island hop. From Cebu City, you can explore other parts of the province.

In the south, you can visit Moalboal to see the sardine run and other diving spots. Then to Oslob for Kawasan Falls. (Please skip whale shark watching in Oslob as it’s not an eco-friendly activity .) In the north, you’ll find Bantayan Island which is famous for its white-sand beaches and Malapascua Island , another island for diving. If you’re after a quiet beach vacation, head to the east to Camotes Island.

While in Cebu, you may drop by its sister province. Bohol features the famous Chocolate Hills. It also has white-sand beaches, particularly in Panglao.

Boracay is a world-famous island beach. My experience is that it’s a love-it or hate-it type.

Here you can see White Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. You can also do numerous watersport activities such as snorkeling, diving, and even mermaid swimming.

Tourists may skip Boracay in favor of other less-commercial areas, but if you’re looking for a place that’s easy to travel to (especially if you’re with a family or special someone), this is still a good place to consider.

Siargao is known as the Surfing Capital of the Philippines . With different surf breaks around the island, it’s popular among amateur and professional surfers.

Siargao is a gorgeous tropical island which I highly recommend you visit. Aside from surfing, you can also explore land attractions including coconut farms, rivers, and caves. You can also go island hopping or charter a boat to the nearby Sohoton Cove.

Other Recommended Places to See

Here are relatively less-visited places that you may also consider on your visit to the Philippines. These are places I’d gone to and which I can recommend whole-heartedly.

Sorsogon is one of my favorite places in the Philippines. There is a lot of things to do in Sorsogon , including island hopping , surfing, and even whale shark watching. Take note that the whale shark activity here is considered more ethical than that in Oslob (Cebu) and even promoted by WWF.

Camiguin is an underrated island in Mindanao. Its more primarily known for White Island, but if you explore further you will see amazing diving locations and even a marine sanctuary home to thousands of giant clams .

Zamboanga isn’t often visited by foreign tourists because of the reputation of Mindanao as an unsafe area. This is saddening to know, as in my experience based on the two trips I’d been here (and conversations I’d made with the locals), Zamboanga City is perfectly safe.

Not only that, the city also has a colorful history, architecture, and one of the best cuisines in the country.

It’s also the gateway to other places in Mindanao, including the next item on my list — Tawi-Tawi.

Tawi-Tawi is one of the best places you can visit in the Philippines! I only spent a short time here, but every time I remember about my experiences I still can’t help but smile.

There are a lot of things you can do in Tawi-Tawi . You can immerse with locals, eat fresh seafood to your heart’s content (seafood is fresh and cheap, and yes, you will get fat if you stay here for days), island hop to surrounding islands , snorkel and dive, and more.

Tawi-Tawi is one of my favorite places and I can’t recommend it enough! Due to its location and lack of tourists, it offers a truly authentic experience.

If you’re specifically looking for off-beaten areas, here’s my recommendation on Off-Beaten Destinations in the Philippines .

Filipino food doesn’t really have the best reputation especially in comparison to other countries in Southeast Asia, but you can find remarkable dishes here as well. I’ve made a separate guide on Must-Try Foods in the Philippines .

Some must-try’s include sinigang (soup with sampaloc or other sour fruit), sisig (grilled pork face), kare-kare (stew with peanut sauce), dinuguan (soup with pig’s blood), kilawin (fresh fish marinated in vinegar) and laing (gabi leaves in coconut milk).

For desserts, halo-halo is a summer favorite.

The Philippines also has a street food scene. Try kwek-kwek, inihaw (grilled food such as chicken intenstine), or balut  (the infamous boiled duck embryo) .

Here are my tips on getting the best out of your food experience:

• It’s a common saying to “Eat where the locals do”. This isn’t necessarily true in the Philippines. Remember that there are a lot of poor areas where eateries use cheap ingredients and shortcuts in cooking. Your best bet is to research on restaurants prior to your trip for reviews. That saying, there are places in the Philippines where the food is good even in ordinary eateries. I find this true particularly in Mindanao ( Zamboanga , Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi).
• Each province has its own specialty dishes, which you should definitely try. For example, in the Bicol Region it’s common to find spicy food such as laing.
• Whether you’re a fan of any of these or not, here’s one thing you need to try: buying seafood! This is one of the things I personally love about out-of-town trips. Seafood is incredibly cheap in provinces, not to mention fresh! For instance, Iloilo and Capiz are famous for the P1 scallops. If you’re staying in the city though, you can still feast on seafood by going to a seafood dampa.
• Don’t miss out on experiencing a boodle fight!

Generally, the Philippines is a great place to travel to! There’s a lot of great sights and activities. The locals are warm and friendly too. 🙂 Don’t miss the opportunity go here when you’re in Southeast Asia!

Hi Liz. As of this writing, Marawi City in Mindanao is under martial law. If you steer clear of that and surrounding areas you should be fine.

I’ve only visited almost 20 provinces in the Philippines and I would love to explore some more. I don’t know how to possibly do it especially that I have a little toddler but I would love to visit each province in the future. Maybe I would travel together with my daughter. I’m a little apprehensive of being my husband because of his nationality but let’s see. Thank you for sharing this blog post.

The first thing you should know about travelling in the Philippines: it takes time. There are so many islands that are all divided by ocean, which makes it impossible to explore the entire country within a few weeks. That’s why you should narrow down to the islands you really want to visit, so you can still enjoy most of the places! We managed to visit 5 islands in 1 month – let me take you to some of the country’s highlights and our insights on what you shouldn’t miss. I will also share the places in the right order how we visited them, so it’s clear how we got from one island to the other.

Day 1 – 2: Manila

Manila, the capital of the Philippines, will be your first stop, as it’s easiest to fly here first. This is where soon your island-hopping adventure starts. However, travellers have different opinions on the city: some like it, others not really. We had a good time in Manila, but it’s enough to spend two nights here to get an impression on the city’s life.

Makati is the most common area for travellers to spend their nights. Here, you can also find trendy bars and restaurants. Lub d in Makati is an amazing accommodation that I can recommend with very clean, tidy rooms and super friendly staff. Moreover, they have a stunning rooftop with great city views! ➳ Tip: The most reliable and safest way to get around in Manila is by Grab Taxi.

In Manila, we realized that Karaoke is very popular in the Philippines and almost every single bar has some fun events going on in the nights. That’s how we ended up in a Karaoke Bar one night with several Filipinos in the middle of Manila having a few bottles of Red Horse (the most popular beer in the Philippines, don’t miss it!).

Day 3 – 10: Palawan

After 2 days in Manila, it’s time to finally start the island hopping! From Manila head straight to Palawan . Palawan includes some of the most popular islands in the Philippines and is full of heavenly beaches. A must include in this Philippines Travel Guide and a must-do in the Philippines!

Island hopping from El Nido to the surrounding picturesque islands is very popular.

You’ll find famous spots like Nacpan Beach , hidden paradises like Port Barton and popular El Nido , that’s especially famous for its island hopping and kayak tours. 8 days will be the perfect time to enjoy those places to the fullest. The easiest way to get to Palawan is by plane from Manila to Puerto Princesa , the biggest city of Palawan. Once you arrived at the airport you can take a shuttle to Port Barton or El Nido, depending on where you want to go first. ➳ Read: Top Places to visit in Palawan: 8-day Itinerary.

➳ Tip: Book your flights from Manila to Palawan before heading to the Philippines! It will be more relaxed if you plan and book your first stop after Manila ahead, so you don’t have to spend your time on booking flights instead of exploring the city.

Day 11 – 13: Coron

Coron is the next highlight of the Philippines Travel Guide. Here it’s all about hopping from one beautiful island to another. That’s why one of the main activities to do here is booking an island hopping tour- you won’t regret! To get to Coron you can take a ferry from El Nido, Palawan that will take around 4 hours to arrive.

We loved this small island and preferred the island hopping tour in Coron, as it was less touristic and less crowded than in El Nido. But of course, there is much more to explore in Coron than only the island hopping.

Day 13 – 20: Siargao Island

The next stop is my favourite island in this Philippines Travel Guide: Siargao Island !

Already when you arrive you’ll realize that most parts of the island are completely covered with palm trees. It’s laid back vibes, cafes and bars, surfer vibes, pristine beaches, and friendly locals are only a few of the main reasons you have to visit this island! One week is perfect to make the most of your time here.

Siargao Island is covered with coconut trees. It’s laid back vibes and beauty make it my favourite island in the Philippines.

Siargao Island is located in the east of the Philippines , which make it a big distance from Palawan and Coron. Coming here by ferry takes more than 24 hours and is quite complicated, as there are no direct ferries. Besides that, we made a really bad experience with one of the ferry companies on our way back from Siargao Island. Therefore the easiest and quickest way to get to Siargao Island is by plane. The tickets are not really cheap, but I am so glad we still decided to visit Siargao and put it on our 4-week Philippines Itinerary because you really won’t be disappointed! You can fly directly from Busuanga, Coron (USU) to Siargao Island (IAO) , which takes around 3 hours and 45 minutes. *Ticket prices Vary between US$150- US$200. Check your best flight options here.

Siargao Island and its laid back vibes make it a paradise for every solo traveller, couples and adventurers.

Day 21: Travel Day to Cebu

Cebu is one of the main islands and transport hubs of the Philippines. Travel to Cebu by plane or ferry from Siargao Island. When you arrived at the port/airport, take the public bus to Moalboal , which is the best area to stay in Cebu. The bus ride will take about 5 more hours but is also the cheapest way to get to Moalboal.

Taking the ferry

Usually, taking the ferry is the better way to travel. It doesn’t only save you money but is way more environment friendly, which is why we decided for the long way instead of the plane. To get from Siargao Island to Cebu by ferry is a very long way though and you have to take two different ferries including an overnight ferry: 1. Fast ferry from Dapa, Siargao to Surigao (1,5 hours) *Tickets: US$7 2. Night Ferry from Surigao to Cebu (8 hours) *Tickets: US$20 However, after we got scammed by the company and the ferry ride was an absolute nightmare, you should choose to go by plane, which only costs US$30 upwards.

Night Ferry from Surigao to Cebu.

Day 22 – 24: Cebu

After your arrival day in Cebu, you can start the first day exploring with one of the main attractions this island is known for: Canyoneering in Badian . This is such a fun and adventurous activity you shouldn’t miss during your Philippines Travel!

Day 25 – 28: Siquijor Island

Awesome waterfalls, turquoise waters and the perfect island to surround by scooter, that’s Siquijor . This is one of the less popular islands for tourists and for us a must include in the Philippines Travel Guide! Take the ferry from Cebu to Siquijor Island. For that you have to take a bus first to get from Moalboal down to Santander, from where your first ferry departs: 1. Ferry from Liloan Port, Santander (Cebu) to Dumaguete

2. Ferry from Dumaguete to Siquijor Island (40 mins)

Siquijor Island is a small island, that’s why you can easily take a TukTuk from the port to your accommodation.

Day 29: Stopover Cebu

After your intense and unforgettable island hopping, it’s time to say goodbye to the Philippines. There is no airport on Siquijor Island, so you have to take the same way back by ferry that you got here. Back at Liloan Port in Cebu , take the public bus to Cebu City (4 hours), where you’ll spend the last night.

➳ Tip: If you’re not vegetarian you have to go to “House of Lechon” in Cebu City for your last dinner. This is a really delicious restaurant offering traditional Lechon. It’s a little more pricey but worth enjoying the last evening in the Philippines.

Day 30: Departure Day

Bye-bye Philippines! After so many impressions it’s time to head to back home or your next destination (whatever your plan is :D). Take a Grab Taxi to the airport to catch your departure flight.

International flights from Cebu will most likely include a small stopover to change planes in Manila.

Philippines Travel Guide: Costs

The Philippines belong to the budget travel countries. Compared to other countries in Asia like Thailand or Indonesia , it’s a little bit more expensive when it comes to accommodation. Also, you should have in mind the many transportation costs that come up to you when travelling to the different islands.

We travelled as a couple and spent around US$1,800 each for 30 days using the same travel itinerary as in this Travel Guide (budget depends on personal plans and activities & can turn out more or less than that). Have in mind that if you’re travelling as a couple or with a friend you can split the accommodation costs.

Double room: $30 per night Meals: $1 – $5 Attraction Entrance Fees: $0.5 – $10 Sim Card: $15 (9GB) (Get one that you can top up with SMART or GLOBE)

How to get around in the Philippines

Another important aspect to mention in this Philippines Travel Guide is how to get around in the Philippines. Transportation in the Philippines offers many opportunities to get from one place to another, but it’s very time-consuming. Always plan enough time to arrive on the islands and expect to be tired after your arrival. The best way to travel overland is by Grab Taxi (not available on all islands though), tricycles (Tuktuks), public buses and minivans (more expensive than buses but also more comfortable). The best way to explore the islands in your own pace is by renting a scooter . To get from island to island, take the ferry or plane. They are leaving on a daily regular basis. ➳ Good to know: Flight delays are very common in the Philippines, which is why you shouldn’t book too tight with connecting flights or activities.

Often the Philippines are pointed out as a no-go destination belonging to the more dangerous countries to travel to, especially in the media. Well, I can tell you that this is not true! First of all, it obviously depends on where you travel to. The dangerous areas of the Philippines are located in the deep south (Mindanao area) and you should avoid coming here, also because of the risk of terrorism. Also, you have to be more careful in Manila , as robberies are more common here, but if you are aware and don’t present your values on open streets the risk is much lower. I felt really safe on all the islands we travelled to! Secondly, the Filipinos are known as the friendliest people in Southeast Asia and we felt so welcomed and taken care of everywhere we went. Besides that, all the locals understand and speak really well English, which makes it much easier to communicate and connect to them and travel around.

Best time to visit the Philippines

Usually, the best time to visit the Philippines is the dry season from December to April. You will not only make sure that the weather is on your side then, but it will also be cheaper than in the busiest and most expensive months from March to May. Avoid travelling during the typhoon season from July to October. The best to do before you decide on when to travel is to do some research on the different locations you want to see. As the Philippines are very big and the islands located in distance from each other, Coron and Siargao, for example, can have very different seasons at the same time of the year.

The last aspect to mention in our Philippines Travel Guide: the visa. The most common visa that most nationalities get is a 30-day Visa on arrival . Requirements for that are that your passport is valid for at least 6 more months after your arrival and that you have a return ticket out of the Philippines within those 30 days. The standard visa can also be extended for up to 60 days if you want to stay longer. However, always check before your trip if you need a visa! At first glance it may seem that there aren’t many interesting things to do in Manila, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Manila is a huge megacity that’s home to millions of people, a sprawling metropolis that few travelers hang around in for long.

For many visitors, the Filipino capital is just a transit point on their way to tropical islands, but give any Manila itinerary a chance and you’ll realize that there’s more to this city than just traffic jams and chaos.

1. Explore the Intramuros

Intramuros is the most historic area in Manila. The name means ‘Within the Walls’, a Spanish reference to the fact that this was the walled city built to defend the city’s colonial elite from outside revolt or attack.

This was the capital of the Spanish Philippines for 300 years, from the 16th century onwards and it was around Intramuros that the modern metropolis you find today grew.

You can walk along the tall walls that still stand around Intramuros, strolling past Spanish cannon and reading the intriguing historical plaques on the way.

There are countless heritage-listed buildings, you can visit Manila Cathedral and explore the ever imposing Fort Santiago.

2. See the Manila Cathedral

Visiting Manila Cathedral – or The Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, as it’s officially known – is one of the best things to do in Manila.

The cathedral dates back to 1571, but it’s gone through many changes since the Spanish first founded it as they attempted to spread Christianity across the Philippines.

The church has been destroyed on at least 7 occasions and the structure you see today is the 8th reincarnation, with war and natural disasters have taken their toll.

3. Fort Santiago

Fort Santiago is an impressive colonial relic that forms part of the walled city, and it’s one of the best things to do in Manila if you’re interested in history.

The fort was built when Manila was declared the capital of the Spanish Philippines and it would quickly become a symbol of Spanish power in the city.

When the Spanish left, the Americans took over, followed by the Japanese during World War II, until Filipino independence saw it turned into a museum.

Many Filipino heroes have been held in the prison cells within the fort, including Jose Rizal, the famed writer who lost his life to the Spanish. You can see a shrine dedicated to his life and death within the fort.

4. Rizal Park

One of the best things to do in Manila is to stroll through Rizal Park. This is the city’s most famous park, and it’s dedicated to the hero of the Filipino Revolution, Jose Rizal, who was executed here by the Spanish in 1898.

It’s an important place, flanked by museums and full of statues and busts of historical characters from Filipino history.

In the late afternoon as the sun begins to set and the temperature lowers, then all of Manila seems to visit Rizal Park to enjoy the laid back atmosphere and cool evening breeze.

5. The National Museum Complex

One of the best things to do in Manila if you’re looking to delve into the country’s history is to visit the National Museum Complex.

The complex comprises several individual museums that are found in grand, neoclassical buildings in Rizal Park.

You can easily spend the day exploring all the different exhibits and departments, which include the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of Anthropology and the National Museum of Natural History.

6. Manila Bay

Manila Bay is the large, natural harbor that the city is built around, and it’s perhaps the most important feature of the capital.

The wide bay has been the site of naval battles through history, many of which have decided who ruled over the Philippines.

These days though, the bay is best known for its beautiful sunsets and long boardwalks.

You can stroll along the edge of the bay at the forefront of the city, and it’s a favorite spot amongst locals for exercising or just getting out and about, while you can also enjoy evening dinner and sunset cruises across the water for spectacular views of the city skyline.

7. Corregidor Island

One of the best things to do in Manila is to take a boat tour across to Corregidor Island.

This is one of the largest islands that’s found in Manila Bay, and due to its strategic position at the entrance to the bay itself, in the past, it was always one of the most heavily fortified parts of the city.

Today, much of the island is still the site of bunkers, barracks and gun emplacements, and it makes for a great day out from the city.

World War II saw fierce fighting on Corregidor Island when the Japanese invaded, and many of the fortifications are now in ruins.

Exploring Binondo, otherwise known as Chinatown, is one of the best things to do in Manila to learn more about the city’s mixed heritage and culture.

For centuries, Chinese immigrants have shaped Manila, but while the Spanish colonizers lived in Intramuros, the Chinese were forced to live outside the walls, in what became the Binondo district.

Makati is Manila’s most up and coming district, a relatively new part of the city that is home to big business and finance. This is where you’ll find skyscrapers and shopping malls, as well as the lovely Ayala Triangle Gardens.

Makati is also renowned for its nightlife, and if you are looking for a few drinks then the many upmarket bars and clubs that are found here are the place to go.

10. Ayala Museum

The Ayala Museum is found in the Makati district, and it’s one of the best things to do in Manila to learn more about Filipino history.

The modern museum houses a wonderful collection of historic artifacts collected from around the Philippines ranging from ancient pottery to prehistoric excavations.

It’s a great place to learn more about the country’s vast number of different ethnic groups too, and their unique history, culture and heritage.

11. Villa Escudero

Just outside of Manila, you can find Villa Escudero, a coconut plantation that offers you the chance to visit the countryside and to experience the local culture .

You can visit an onsite museum, enjoy entertainment shows, ride a bamboo raft across the lake and best of all, enjoy a gourmet dining experience beneath a waterfall.

12. Pagsanjan Falls

One of the best day trips from Manila is to Pagsanjan Falls, a spectacular waterfall that will blow you away with its size and location.

It’s a great way to escape the bustling streets of the city and to get back to nature, as you’ll be immersed in the forest on your way to the waterfall.

The only way to reach the falls is by hiking from the nearest town or by taking the popular local dugout canoes along the river, to see the triple cascades from below.

13. Taal Volcano

Despite being a huge mega-city, Manila makes for a surprisingly good base to reach nearby natural attractions, and one of the best places to visit is the Taal Volcano.

The Philippines is rife with volcanic activity, and the Taal Volcano is one of the second most active in the country.

It’s also one of the most beautiful volcanoes, as here you can find a volcano within a volcano, as a large water-filled crater on an even larger lake surrounds the active cone. It’s a spectacular sight, and perfect for outdoor activities.

14. Tagaytay

Taal Volcano is found in the Tagaytay region to the south of Manila, but there’s plenty more to do here on your day out, and it makes for a popular trip from the city for a variety of reasons.

Tagaytay is found in the highlands, and if you’re over the sweltering humidity of Manila, this makes for a cool and blissful retreat. There are hiking opportunities, scenic viewpoints and plenty of spas offering relaxation treatments!

15. Malacanang Palace

Back in Manila, a visit to the Malacanang Palace will give you a chance to see where and how the President lives in the city.

If you have heard about Cebu, you’re probably thinking of canyoneering in Badian , sardine running in Moalboal , and swimming with giant whale sharks in Oslob . These are fun outdoor activities in Cebu that will make your visit memorable. But if you’re looking for more, there’s more to Cebu.

How to Plan Your Cebu Trip

This Cebu Travel Guide is a product of more than a decade of experience exploring Cebu. By the end, you should have a good idea about traveling to Cebu as I cover the following aspects:

Most tourists explore Cebu for 3-7 days, which I believe is very short given what it has to offer. However, if you want to experience all the best of Cebu , I recommend staying for at least 10 days.

The best way to plan your Cebu itinerary is to divide it into two parts: South Cebu and North Cebu .

South Cebu is where you can find Moalboal , Badian , and Oslob . It’s also known for breathtaking waterfalls and mountains, which are great for day hikes.

North Cebu, meanwhile, is where you can find Bantayan Island , Malapascua Island , and Camotes Island . It is more popular for relaxation as it has dozens of white sand beaches. North Cebu also has well-known outdoor activities, including thresher shark diving.

Both North and South Cebu have several good dive sites.

Best Time to Visit Cebu

The best time to visit Cebu depends on what you want to do and what you want to experience. In general, there’s no bad time to visit Cebu. But if you want to understand how our weather works and what events you can enjoy, here are some answers to your questions.

When is Cebu’s peak season?

Cebu’s peak season is in January due to the annual Sinulog Festival , the biggest religious festival in the Philippines. A few days before the festival, which happens on the 3rd Sunday of January, most hotels are fully booked. Booking flights and ferry trips to Cebu closer to the festival day can also get a little bit difficult.

December is also another peak season in the Philippines. It’s common for Filipinos from abroad and those who live/work in the city to return to their hometowns to celebrate the holiday season. Typically, this phenomenon happens between December 15 and January 1 .

It’s also important to note that Cebu is a jump-off point for other provinces in the Philippines, which is why it’s dubbed “the gateway to a thousand journeys.” Expect flights and ferry trips to be fully booked for a few days around Christmas time.

In fact, in December 2022, I was not able to go back to my hometown for Christmas because all direct flights and ferry trips were booked. It happened to me again in December 2023 because I just never learned.

What months are typhoons in Cebu?

According to the weather bureau PAGASA , almost 70% of typhoons in the Philippines occur from July to October .

Note that transportation, especially airplanes and ferries, is highly dependent on the weather. In the worst case, you might experience canceled trips due to unfavorable weather conditions. Don’t fret! Your safety should always come first.

What is the weather like in Cebu?

The Philippines has two seasons: rainy (tag-ulan) and summer (tag-init). The rainy season is from June to November, while the summer is from December to May. Nevertheless, the weather in the Philippines can be tricky and could throw a curveball on your travel plans no matter what. It’s important to prepare yourself and be flexible.

For example, when it’s rainy season, it doesn’t mean it’s not sunny and hot anymore. In the same way, when it’s summer season, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t rain.

In Cebu, April is the driest month of the year. May is the warmest month, with an average temperature of 26.8°C or 80.3°F. Meanwhile, January is the coldest, with an average temperature of 25.0°C or 77.0°F.

October is the wettest month in Cebu, so if you want to avoid the rainy season, avoid it. However, rain or drizzles could still occur even in the driest months.

What is the best month to visit Cebu?

The best months to visit Cebu are from December to May. Hot, humid weather in the Philippines usually begins in the latter part of March and ends at the end of May, which means these are the country’s driest and hottest months of the year.

Most websites recommend the months between December and May. I wouldn’t necessarily object. However, I must remind you that December is still pretty rainy and “stormy.” Many of the most destructive typhoons in the Philippines happened in December.

January to the first half of March is generally okay. But expect that there would still be rain here and there.

Driest and hottest don’t always mean it’s the best option. Summer days during these months can be unbearably hot for people not used to this scorching climate.

You might think these months are bearable for locals who have lived in the Philippines all their lives. It’s a misconception! It’s honestly a nuisance for many of us.

We navigate through these hottest months by going to the mall, swimming at the nearest pools or beach, or staying indoors where there’s air conditioning or a fan.

What do you wear in Cebu?

Breathable clothes made from materials like cotton, linen, silk, and bamboo are best for hot and humid weather in the Philippines. It’s generally hot in Cebu throughout the year with a mean annual temperature of 27.1°C or 80.78°F, so bring light clothes (tank tops, shorts, T-shirt, etc.).

There are “cold” places in the Philippines, but nothing crazy, especially if you come from places with snow. For example, the coldest city in the Philippines is Baguio in Benguet.

Baguio City’s average annual temperature is 20.6 °C or 69.0 °F. The lowest temperature recorded in Baguio in the summer of 2024 is 12.8 °C. If you come from cold regions, that should be bearable.

How many days is enough in Cebu?

As I mentioned, most tourists spend 3-7 days in Cebu. However, I believe you need at least 10 days to explore the best of Cebu , including Moalboal, Badian, Oslob, and the rest of South Cebu. If you want to explore the depths of Cebu, I recommend spending at least 10 days here to experience all its world-class attractions.

Which part of Cebu is the best to stay in?

If you plan to stay longer or are a digital nomad or remote worker needing a reliable internet connection daily, staying in Cebu City is optimal. Popular places to visit in Cebu , such as Moalboal and Oslob, are only 3-4 hours bus ride away.

The best areas to live in the city would be Cebu IT Park , where I’ve been based for three years now, and Cebu Business Park. These well-maintained CBDs have pretty much everything you need, such as fitness gyms, coffee shops, fast-food restaurants, hotels, malls, coworking spaces, and public transportation. Bars are also within reach.

Alternatively, some tourists stay in the downtown area. Fuente Osmeña Circle or Mango Avenue (officially known as General Maxilom Avenue) are good options if you want to be close to Mango, Cebu’s well-known red-light district, and historical sites such as Fort San Pedro and Basilica del Santo Niño .

If you don’t like to stay in the city and would rather live near the most popular attractions, Moalboal is your best option. From there, you can visit Badian (canyoneering) and the rest of South Cebu, where waterfalls are quite common.

Moalboal is a more developed tourist destination with dozens of options for accommodations, restaurants, coffee shops, and cafés. If you are looking for good nightlife, Moalboal is pretty vibrant, especially on weekends and holidays. It also has that island life vibe you might be looking for.

Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island are great options if you are looking for rest and relaxation away from the city. These islands now have decent internet connections and mobile data signals.

How to Get to Cebu

There are two ways to get to Cebu: by plane or ferry. Depending on where you come from in the Philippines, your only option might be a plane or ferry.

If you are coming overseas, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) serves various international flights. Find out all the details below!

Air travel is the most convenient way to reach Cebu. From Manila and Clark, Pampanga, you can take a one-hour flight on Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, or Air Asia.

If you are coming from other tourist destinations such as Coron, El Nido, Puerto Princesa, Siargao, and Boracay, there are regular hour-long flights, too. Boutique airlines Sunlight Air and AirSwift also have flights to Cebu from select destinations.

All flights to Cebu land at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in Lapu-Lapu City (still part of Cebu Province). Here are some flights to Cebu and vice versa:

The travel time of ferries depends on how far your destination is. It could be just 30 minutes, 3 hours, 10 hours, or even 2 days and 1 night if you come from Manila.

From Cebu Pier, you need to take a taxi to Cebu North Bus Terminal or Cebu South Bus Terminal, depending on your next destination.

Getting Around Cebu

Transportation can be daunting for tourists in general. But if you try to learn the basics, you will get used to it.

In Cebu City and neighboring cities, the main modes of transportation are modern jeepneys, traditional jeepneys, taxis, and habal-habal (motorcycle taxis). There are also buses that transport passengers to certain parts of Metro Cebu.

Jeepneys are usually packed, especially during rush hours. If you are not comfortable with it, use the ride-hailing app Grab (an Uber counterpart) or motorcycle taxis (habal-habal) like Move It, Angkas, JoyRide, and Maxim. These services can take you around Cebu’s tri-cities Cebu City, Mandaue City, and Lapu-Lapu City, to as far as Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga, Consolacion, and Liloan.

If you visit tourist towns in Cebu like Moalboal , Badian , and Oslob , vans and buses are available throughout the day. When visiting islands like Bantayan Island and Camotes Island , you need to take a bus or van and then a ferry. To get to smaller islands like Malapascua Island and Sumilon Island , you need to take a bangka (outrigger boat).

To get around smaller towns and islands, tricycles and habal-habal are the most common mode of transportation. However, you can also rent a scooter for 300-500 PHP (~6-10 USD) per day if you want to explore places at your own pace. There are car rentals and chartered vehicles with drivers to take you around Cebu.

To get to Bantayan Island from Cebu City, take a Ceres Liner bus at Cebu North Bus Terminal bound for Hagnaya Port ( Cebu City to Bantayan Island Bus Schedule ). Some buses go directly to Santa Fe, Bantayan Island. You can also charter a private vehicle to take you to Hagnaya Port from Cebu City or Mactan Airport.

This brief guide to Tagaytay City will help you plan your trip. It contains information on what to do, eat, and drink as well as the must-see spots and the best hotels.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in Luzon , Tagaytay is perfect for someone who wants a quick escape from the busy city life.  It has various leisure spots where you can create unforgettable memories, fantastic restaurants, nice hotels, and of course cool weather to complete that much needed weekend getaway.  With its location being less than two hours away from Manila, Tagaytay is truly a must-place to visit when on the island.

Best Time to Visit

It’s best to visit the Philippines during the dry season .  Dry season in the Philippines spans from November through April .  These are the summer months in this country.

Be aware that temperatures and humidity levels are particularly high in April and May .

The best time to be a beach bum and explore the islands is from March to May.

TIP:  This guide recommends that booking for Tagaytay City summer trips should be done as early as possible, at least a month before your travel dates, since resorts get fully booked early.

The period from June to October is the rainy (wet) season and is best avoided due to the high possibility of typhoons. The typhoons can not only be destructive, but most tours and activities are cancelled under such circumstances.  Transportation via plane and boat is also seriously impacted as well.  This happens frequently so beware!

This guide recommends traveling to Tagaytay City in April-May or in November-December , just before and just after the rainy season. This will likely bring fewer crowds, yet pleasant weather, and is also a great time to score a travel deal.

Getting Here

There are many ways to get here depending on your starting point. This guide recommends using the following online tools to identify all the available options and cost for each while in Tagaytay City:  Rome2Rio and PHBUS . The following are the major ports of entry for this destination.

BUS TERMINAL

By Bus from Parañaque

• Head to PITX (Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange).  The terminal for Tagaytay buses is at Gate 2.
• Board a bus bound for Tagaytay, Mendez, Nasugbu, or Olivarez.  All these buses pass through Tagaytay.
• Inform the conductor that you will be getting off in Tagaytay.  Fare per person is between P100 ($2 USD) to P130 ($2.6 USD).  Travel time is around two to three hours depending on the traffic condition.

By Bus from Buendia

• Go to DLTB Terminal near LRT Gil Puyat Station.
• Take a bus with signs “Tagaytay” or “Olivares”. Alternatively, you can also take a bus bound for Nasugbu or Calatagan.  These buses pass through Tagaytay.
• Head to the van terminal in between Kabayan Hotel and Metropoint Mall.
• Take a bus bound for Calatagan.
• Inform the driver to drop you off in Tagaytay.  Travel time is around two hours depending on the traffic condition.

1 | People’s Park in the Sky

If you’ve never been to Tagaytay before, then People’s Park in the Sky is not something you should miss.  Being one of the highest points in the city, the park offers stunning views of Tagaytay landscape and the iconic Taal Lake and Volcano .

2 | Picnic Grove

Not too far away from People’s Park in the Sky is the Picnic Grove, another spot that offers stunning views of Tagaytay.  Additionally, guests can also enjoy a variety of fun activities such as cable car ride, horseback riding, swimming, shopping, and ziplining.

3 | Sky Ranch

Want more exciting activities when in the city?  Head over to Sky Ranch, an amusement park where you can enjoy thrilling rides such as Super Viking, Sky Cruiser, and Sky Eye, the second tallest ferris wheel in the Philippines.  There are kid-friendly rides too so Sky Ranch is a great bonding place for family and friends.

4 | Museo Orlina

Museo Orlina features the artworks of Ramon Orlina, an internationally-acclaimed artist who pioneered glass sculpture in the country.  Built on a cliff, the museum is a three-level building with a roof deck that provides a lovely view of Taal Volcano .  There is also a garden and an amphitheater where large glass sculptures are displayed.  Artworks of other Filipino artists are also showcased in the museum.

5 | Puzzle Mansion Bed & Breakfast

If you’re into puzzles, you surely don’t want to miss Puzzle Mansion which houses one of the largest collections of puzzles in the world.  The collection varies in materials, shapes, sizes, and subject.  There are even 2D and 3D puzzles as well as puzzles showcasing the works of world famous artists such as Picasso.

6 | Paradizoo

When traveling with kids who love animals, you may want to visit Paradizoo, a 10-hectare land where you can see various animals including horses, chickens, lions, monkeys, snakes, iguanas, and some sea animals.  The zoo also provides educational programs in which guests can learn about goat and cow milking and sheep-shearing.

7 | Sonya’s Garden

Sonya’s Garden is more than just a bed & breakfast where you can enjoy the night and have sumptuous meals.  The place is filled with lush greenery and lovely flowers perfect for a relaxing time away from the busy city life.  Stepping into the tropical garden feels like being transported into the magical world of fairy tales hence the number of marriage proposals and wedding celebrations the place accommodates.  It also has its own organic skin and hair care line called Sonya Botanicals, restaurant, spa, and offers classes for organic farming and bed and breakfast management.

8 | Mahogany Beef Market

Get the freshest meat, fruits, vegetables, and herbs as well as ornamental plants from Mahogany Market.  The market is known for selling different cuts of fresh meat coming straight from livestock farmers and fresh produce from the farmers of Tagaytay.  On the second level of the market are food stalls where you can enjoy the delicious bulalo (beef marrow stew).

9 | Nurture Wellness Village

Nurture Wellness Village is one of the pioneers of the spa and wellness industry in the Philippines.  It is even named as one of the top spas in Asia by a couple of magazines.  Nurture offers various spa and wellness treatments including massages, body polish, scrubs, holistic health services, enema, charcoal whole body wrap with biomat, pyroenergen, acupuncture, and many others.

NOTE: The Pilipinyahan Festival occurs annually in Tagaytay City the 1st week of May.

EAT & DRINK

The following is your guide to the flavorful food to enjoy and restaurants to try while in Tagaytay City.

1 | Antonio’s Garden

The number restaurant in Tagaytay based on user reviews, Antonio’s Garden is a fine dining restaurant with a homey and relaxing ambience.  They take pride in using the very best ingredients and use precise culinary technique to provide guests with high quality food they deserve.  The restaurant is known to have the best foie gras, salad, and chocolate souffle in the city.

The restaurant has sister restaurants in Tagaytay – Breakfast at Antonio’s, Balay Dako, and Terraza.

2 | Balay Dako

Balay Dako is another restaurant by Antonio’s group of restaurants.  Balay Dako, Negrense term for big house, serves a variety of Filipino foods such as lumpia, sisig, bulalo, sinigang, and others.  The price is a bit high but the servings are large so it’s worth it.  On top of that, service is great and the restaurant has a good ambience with a great view of Taal Lake so it’s something not to be missed when in Tagaytay.

3 | Sonya’s Secret Garden

Aside from its refreshing ambience, Sonya’s Garden has a great restaurant as well.  The restaurant boasts of using fresh ingredients coming straight from their garden.  Their price range is a bit expensive but considering the food in addition to the relaxing ambience and excellent service, Sonya’s Garden is truly a recommended place to visit especially for first timers in Tagaytay.

4 | Aozora Japanese Restaurant

For authentic Japanese foods, there’s no other place to be but Aozora.  This lovely restaurant serves good sashimi and California maki as well as fusion dishes like bulalo ramen.  Their price range is reasonable and has three branches in Tagaytay.

5 | Marcia Adams Restaurant

Marcia Adams is a lovely garden restaurant that is good not only for your tummy but for your Instagram feed as well.  It has various dining areas including the garden, sunset lounge, Greek terrace, and the Provencale Pavilion.  They have the best panna cotta, pork chop, and tzatziki.

6 | Charito by Bag of Beans

Charito by Bag of Beans is a French-style semi-fine dining restaurant serving tasty dishes such as roast beef, lamb curry, baby back ribs, and chicken teriyaki.  Freshly-baked goodies are also available daily.  Offering a spectacular view of the Taal Volcano , Charito by Bag of Beans is surely the best place to enjoy the cool Tagaytay weather with family and friends.

7 | The Purple Owl

The Purple Owl is the perfect spot for romantic date nights and intimate celebrations such as marriage proposals, anniversaries, baby showers, and others.  The place even offers movie dates and live music packages that include a private space, full course meal, and projected movies or live band playing.  The food is catered by Mrs. Gee’s Kitchen which serves homemade foods like salad, pasta, steak, and more.

Use the chart below to get an idea of how much to budget daily.  Actual amounts will depend on YOUR travel style. Keep in mind these are daily averages … some days you’ll spend more, some days you’ll spend less. Prices are in USD.

Travel Costs

Accommodation.

A bed in a  hostel  dorm costs from 350 PHP ($7 USD), but smaller dorms can cost from 500 PHP ($10 USD).  For a private double, prices start around 700 PHP ($14 USD).

Most  budget hotels  begin at 700 PHP ($14 USD) per night for a double room and usually include free wifi and breakfast.  For  a three-star hotel , prices begin around 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.   AirBnB  is also widespread throughout the country, with private rooms starting from as little as 500 PHP ($10 USD) per night.  For entire apartments, expect to pay at least 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) per night.

Resorts and luxury accommodations  vary greatly from 1,400 PHP ($28 USD) to 5,000+ PHP ($100+ USD).  However, there are some really nice resorts and luxury accommodations which are surprisingly affordable.

We use and recommend booking online to save money using  HostelWorld ,  Agoda ,  Booking.com , and  Expedia . 

Local food is extremely cheap, with street food costing under 50 PHP ($1USD).  For an inexpensive meal at a local restaurant, prices start around 100 PHP ($2 USD).  For a meal at a mid-range restaurant with drinks and table service, expect to pay from 200 PHP ($4 USD).  Knowing that their target customers are primarily tourists, Western food venues can be pricey compared to Filipino food.  Also, some of the ingredients need to be imported, which contributes to the higher cost. Western food (burgers, pizza, pasta, etc.) is much more expensive but is still relatively affordable at around 200 PHP ($4 USD) for a meal and drink.

Fast food like McDonalds will cost around 200 PHP ($4 USD).  A beer at the bar will cost around 50-100 PHP ($1–2 USD).

A week’s worth of groceries will cost between 300-600 PHP ($6-12 USD) per person.  However, food in this country is so inexpensive, and kitchens & refrigerators are hard to come by, I don’t recommend cooking your meals here since there is plenty of delicious street food to eat at very cheap prices. You won’t make it as good as they do and the food is too delicious to miss!

Transportation

There are many modes of transportation available in the Philippines and each varies greatly. 

Public Transportation is cheap.  Bus services on the islands are inexpensive.  Local buses (called jeepneys) are the most common type of transportation in towns and cities. The fare is usually between 12-25 PHP ($.24–.50 USD).

On islands without a bus system, a taxi or tricycle is the only form of transport with fares starting at 50-500 PHP ($1-$10) USD for short trips. 

Taxis are everywhere, and they’re very cheap.  Most fares shouldn’t cost you more than 500 PHP ($10 USD) around town.  

To get between islands, you’ll need to take a boat or to fly.  There are ferries that connect the island together since they aren’t too far apart but, generally speaking, flights are the most realistic option. 

Flights between islands usually cost about 2,000-3500 PHP ($40-70 USD).  However, this isn’t the cheapest way to travel.  It’s only recommended if you have limited time. 

We recommend booking online to save money using:  WayAway , Kiwi or Expedia .

Attractions & Activities

Most attractions and activities in the Philippines are pretty cheap. Most attractions throughout the area are FREE to enter, though some of the more well known and popular ones cost 5-100 PHP ($.10-$2 USD) to enter. 

Depending on the activity, most day tours only cost around 1,000-1,500 PHP ($20-30 USD), oftentimes less.  You have more bargaining power if you go with a group. If you are expecting to do some climbing, remember to pack some warm layers. It gets cold at the top!  

Other activities such as Island Hopping, scuba diving, helmet diving, swimming with whale sharks, jungle trekking, canyoning, ATVs, jet skis, wakeboarding, cruises, parasailing, horseback riding, cultural experiences, and tours can cost as much as 1,250-5,000+ PHP ($25-100+ USD).

The Philippines is one of the least expensive places to learn how to scuba dive. Learning to scuba dive usually costs about 15,000-20,000 PHP ($300-400 USD), but often includes FREE accommodation for the duration of the course, which lasts three or four days.

Always book your tours and activities when you arrive.  Stick to travel agents who are selling on the ground. If a travel agent won’t negotiate with you, move on to the next until you find one that will.  Booking tours online is almost always more expensive.

• Be aware that a tourist VISA is only 30 days. You can extend it upon arrival, or within the first 30 days, for an additional 30 days for a fee of approximately 3,000 pesos.
• Don’t buy into the fear factor. The Philippines has an unjustified reputation of being a dangerous place. It’s true there are security guards everywhere, but that is to deter theft.
• Manila is NOT the Philippines. Get outside of the cities to see the real Philippines.
• Don’t over plan. Boats, buses, and even airplane schedules are notoriously unreliable. Be flexible.
• Check the weather. The weather varies greatly throughout the Philippines daily.
• Typhoons can have a huge impact on your plans. Account for this when planning your trip.
• It’s not cool to raise your voice or show outward frustration in public.
• Be polite at all times. Realize that your country’s sense of humor may be different from Filipino humor and take this into account when interacting with Filipinos and while in public places.
• Things move at a slower pace. Accept it … don’t get frustrated … but do account for it.
• Don’t drink the tap water… but stay hydrated! Save money by buying large bottles (6-10 liters) of water and using it to fill your water bottle or hydration bladder in your backpack.

Money Matters

The Philippines has its own currency called the Philippine Peso. Banks, ATMs, and money-changers can be found on the island. Staying Connected

You need to have a local-based SIM card in order to stay connected when in the Philippines. Network giants such as Globe and Smart have SIM cards you can use to make calls, send text messages, and also to connect to the Internet. A SIM card costs around 50 PHP ($1 USD) and usually comes with a FREE load worth 50 PHP ($1 USD). You can buy a card containing a code you can enter on your phone to replenish your load or buy an electronic load that is available almost anywhere in the city.

While you may not have problems with signal strength when in the city, it is not always the case when on islands or in remote areas of a province.  So when arranging for transportation pick up, say when renting a boat to take you to and pick you up from the island, it would be best that you make it clear what time you need to be picked up before the boatman leaves.

There is a nationwide ban which prohibits smoking in public places including indoors, the streets, on sidewalks, in restaurants , and on public transportation, requiring smokers to use designated smoking areas.  Selling tobacco to and purchasing from or for minors is also prohibited. Violators are subject to fines (up to 5,000 PHP | $100 USD) and even 4 months in prison.

The minimum legal drinking age is 18.  Alcohol such as beer and hard drinks can easily be bought in grocery and convenience stores.  The most common alcoholic beverage is beer, generally served cold.  Local alcoholic drinks include tuba (coconut wine which is usually very strong) and potent moonshine-like clear liquors made from sugar or fruit.  Imported beer, wine, and name brand hard alcohol are available but expensive.

Drugs are illegal in the Philippines.  Don’t use, buy, or sell any non-prescription drugs while in the Philippines … not even marijuana.  It is considered an especially heinous crime to buy from, for, or sell drugs to children.  The penalties are severe … up to and including death.

Public nudity is illegal in the Philippines and is not tolerated.  Most locals consider it offensive.  There are laws which prohibit provocative and erotic clothing and swimwear, therefore carefully consider your clothings and swimwear choices to make certain they are not too revealing.

Foreigners & Expats

If you are not a Filipino citizen, remember that you are a guest when visiting this country … be certain to act accordingly.  Respect the people, their customs, and the environment and wlidlife. You can be deported and banned … so behave … but have fun and enjoy all that this wonderful destination has to offer.

Manjuyod Sandbar is located in North Bais Bay, on the coast of Bais City in Negros Oriental, Philippines. It is often called the (Maldives of the Philippines) because of its clean white sand and clear blue water.

If you dream of going to a place with alluring white sand and blue water then Manjuyod Sandbar is perfect for you.

It has very fine sand, crystal clear water, very fresh ocean air, beautiful corals and a variety of delicious seafood.

We have been to Manjuyod Sandbar only once and it was a worthwhile vacation. When I arrived at the place, I was really amazed by the beauty of the ocean. It’s like you’re in the middle of the sea floating because of its shallow sandbar.

How to Get There

• By airplane – Fly to Dumaguete City from Manila or Cebu. Dumaguete City is the closest major city to Manjuyod Sandbar.
• By Land – From Dumaguete City, take a bus or van to Bais City. The trip typically takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
• By Boat – Once in Bais City, you can hire a boat from the Canibol or Capiñahan Wharf to take you to the sandbar. Boat rides are usually arranged as part of a tour package.

Since we’ve only been there once, we’re still a bit confused about what we should do to get to the island safely.

It has the Natural Beauty of the sandbar boasting powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water, making it the perfect spot for photos and relaxation.

The area is known for its rich marine life, including dolphins and occasional whale sightings.

The place also helps to avoid the hustle and bustle of city life, offering a quiet and peaceful environment.

Our vacation at Manjuyod Sandbar was worth it. Our stress from our jobs is gone because it has been replaced by a relaxing place.

According to my sister, Manjuyod Sandbar is one of the best places she has ever been to.

We have different habits because she doesn’t like to wander and I like to travel a lot. I just forced her to go with me because of the stress she was going through.

I asked my sister if she liked the place and she said yes, the place is so beautiful, something attracts you to come back. We also tried many activities on the island which we enjoyed very much.
