Hotel Virtual Tours: The Complete Guide

phone on tripod recording exterior of building

Virtual tourism is a growing segment of the hospitality industry that relies on the use of technology to present potential guests, clients, and visitors with a unique and immersive experience. From restaurants to resorts, businesses in the hospitality industry use virtual marketing to promote their business, drive consumer growth, and improve operational procedures. To keep up with all of the trends during this era of digital transformation , many hoteliers are turning to hotel virtual tours and using them to connect with potential clients.

In this guide, we cover the ins and outs of hotel virtual tours. We break down what they are, how to create them, and how they can improve overall hotel performance. We also answer the most commonly asked questions about hotel virtual tours and discuss how virtual marketing is used to expand audience reach, drive hotel revenue, improve day-to-day operations, and much more.

Learn how to unlock the power of hotel virtual tours

What are hotel virtual tours.

A virtual tour is an exciting form of experiential marketing that restaurants, hotels, retail shops, and other businesses use to simulate and facilitate an on-property visit remotely. A popular tool for resorts, vacation homes, branded properties, and other overnight accommodations, hotel virtual tours allow travelers, travel agents, event planners, engaged couples, and so many other customers to visit the property from afar and take a look around.

Through virtual site tours, potential customers can “test out” your property by immersing themselves in a virtual simulation of the hotel. Virtual guests can teleport from one hotel location to another, or from one position in the room to another, simulating the experience of physically moving through the hotel. Remote visitors and potential customers can explore the hotel as a guest and experience everything it has to offer, including:

  • Hotel amenities
  • Key features
  • Lobby spaces
  • Restaurant and dining areas
  • Fitness facilities
  • Hotel pool, spa, or similar services
  • On-site vending/market
  • Meeting and event space
  • Exterior spaces

Through hotel virtual tours, potential guests can “try before they buy.” They can view the property features they care about most, explore the hotel, and decide whether or not to book without being bogged down by wordy descriptions or information they don’t need.

How are hotel virtual tours created?

Virtual tours can be created in multiple ways — one of which involves combining a series of still images or videos to compose a simulated virtual version of an existing location. The images and videos may be combined with music, narration, sound effects, text, and other multimedia elements to create an engaging, interactive experience for viewers.

Most virtual tours that are created this way are filmed from a first-person perspective and provide a 360-degree view, allowing guests to explore the hotel from all angles. When a guest enters the virtual tour, they feel as if they are actually at the hotel. The immersive eye-level perspective allows them to visualize exactly what a visit to your hotel would be like as they move around the property, exploring the lobby and various room types .

Virtual tours can also be created through interactive, photo-realistic 3D technology, which gives hotels the opportunity to upload floorplans and show off their space like never before .

Where do hotels display virtual tours?

Virtual tour simulations are beneficial additions to a variety of marketing campaigns, as they work well in video content, search ads, email, and directly on the hotel’s website. Promote hotel virtual tours via YouTube, your hotel’s Google My Business (GMB) account, the Cvent Supplier Network , and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, to expand the hotel’s audience reach.

The types of virtual tours that social media platforms and venue listing sites host vary from channel to channel. Facebook, for example, allows users to share and edit 360-degree photos , which show a photograph from all angles. The field of view is automatically set to the center of the image, allowing visitors to look ahead, above, behind, and below. Through GMB, however, hotels can create and promote an interactive Google Virtual Tour or Street View Virtual Tour. Hotels select a GMB virtual tour package and pay a one-time fee based on the complexity of the virtual tour layout. Once filmed and submitted, Google displays hotel virtual tours on the property’s local Google profile, in search engine results, and on Google Maps.

What should hotels highlight in a virtual tour?

Hotels that outsource their 3D videography commonly request that videographers create multiple different tours for use in differing marketing campaigns. Sales and marketing directors who know their clients (and prospective clients) very well may choose to utilize different tours in various situations, as specific content may appeal to individual market segments more than others or perform better on a particular marketing channel.

Hotel marketing managers may utilize a street view virtual tour on social media to snag audience members’ attention and pique their curiosity. The appealing exterior street view tour sucks the viewer in, engages them, and then prompts a visit to your direct booking site to finish the tour. Intrigued guests that want to take the rest of the tour are directed right to your website, where a “Book Now” button will be waiting to greet post-tour guests.

How can hotels benefit from virtual tours?

Hoteliers, general managers, sales directors, and revenue managers can all benefit from using hotel virtual tours. Here are a few examples.

1. Improve marketing

Give guests and planners the opportunity to visualize what a stay or an event at your hotel would actually look like. Hotel virtual tours drive high-value leads with engaging, interactive content, allowing both travelers and travel planners to experience your venue like never before.

Show that your property is a step ahead of the competition and outclass the comp set by taking your hotel site visits virtual. Hotels that offer an experience instead of just a sales pitch are more likely to stand out. An extensive Omni Hotel study concluded that online visitors who had access to 3D hotel virtual tours were 67% more likely to book a hotel room online.

2. Boost sales

Sales and marketing teams use hotel virtual tours to maintain and grow market share, as well as target individual market segments. Hotel virtual tours are an excellent marketing tool for reaching millennials and Gen Z travelers. Reimagine Main Street, an online advertising and digital marketing management agency, found that customers aged 18-34 are 130% more likely to make a booking at a property offering a virtual tour.

3. Execute better events

Executing meetings and events successfully can help sales and revenue directors reach revenue targets. Hotels are also able to build trust and loyalty with travel agents and planners by meeting the expectations set by the hotel’s virtual tour. The hotel features, amenities, and services represented in the virtual experience are present on-site, and the event’s execution is exactly as the planner pictured it.

Hotels can attract guests, travel planners, and other clients to their property through well-executed and immersive virtual tours. Once on-property, hotels have the opportunity to lock in guest loyalty by exceeding the lofty expectations set in the virtual simulation.

How can hotel virtual tours impact guest safety?

Prospective clients who take a virtual site tour can view event space entry points, exterior hotel access, interior walking paths, and other safety features, ensuring potential guests feel safe and comfortable staying at your hotel. In addition, hotels can automatically run updated event plans against the most currently-uploaded safety restrictions to ensure that all events are safe . If needed, amend the layout and improve event safety by making changes, such as:

  • Distancing guest seating
  • Including hand sanitizer stations
  • Creating multiple event check-in areas

Transform Your Hotel’s Online Image with Virtual Tours

Imagine stepping inside a hotel room, exploring its every nook and cranny, walking through the lobby, and indulging in the panoramic views from your suite, all from the comfort of your own home.

That’s what virtual tours for hotels look like.

Hotel virtual tours make this seemingly futuristic experience a reality. They allow guests to embark on immersive journeys through the heart of hotels, providing a dynamic and engaging glimpse into what the property has to offer.

In this blog, we will delve into the world of hotel virtual tours, shedding light on what they are, why they matter, and how they are transforming the hospitality landscape.

Before we begin, let’s answer the basic question first.

Table of Content

What is a hotel virtual tour, why are virtual tours for hotels effective in attracting more guests.

  • Benefits of Virtual Tours

Types of Hotel Virtual Tours

How to create a compelling hotel virtual tour, where to display virtual tours, overcoming challenges.

A hotel virtual tour is a dynamic, interactive experience that transcends traditional photos and videos, offering potential guests an immersive, 360-degree exploration of a hotel’s physical spaces.

It relies on specialized cameras to capture high-resolution, panoramic images, enabling viewers to virtually walk through rooms, communal areas, and the hotel’s surroundings.

These Visual storytelling for hotels often feature interactive navigation, rich media integration, and user-friendly access through websites, mobile apps, or virtual reality headsets.

Unlike static images, virtual tours provide transparency, trust, and personalization, empowering travelers to make informed decisions about their accommodations.

Virtual tours have become a powerful tool in the hospitality industry for one compelling reason—they captivate potential guests like never before.

Virtual tours offer an immersive experience, allowing viewers to step into a hotel’s world and explore its offerings from the comfort of their screens.

This level of engagement goes beyond merely showing what a hotel looks like; it transports guests into the hotel’s ambiance, letting them envision their stay.

As the saying goes, “Seeing is believing,” and virtual tours provide that belief, building trust and confidence in potential guests. They empower travelers to make informed decisions about where they’ll stay, reducing uncertainty and increasing the likelihood of bookings.

With virtual tours, hotels can showcase their unique features, highlight their selling points, and create an emotional connection with viewers, ultimately enticing more guests to choose their establishment.

Benefits of Virtual Tours for Hotels

Virtual tours offer a multitude of benefits for both hotels and their prospective guests. The ability to virtually walk through rooms, assess amenities, and gauge the overall atmosphere enhances the booking experience, reducing the likelihood of surprises upon arrival.

It empowers hotels to showcase their unique qualities while providing travelers with the confidence to make well-informed decisions about their stay.

Here are the benefits of virtual tours for hotels–

  • Showcase Amenities

Hotel amenities are often a key factor that influences a traveler’s decision to book, and virtual tours excel at showcasing these enticing features. Whether it’s a luxurious pool area, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a tranquil spa, or a rooftop restaurant with breathtaking views, virtual tours allow hotels to bring these amenities to life in a way that static images and descriptions cannot.

With a virtual tour, potential guests can virtually step into these spaces, getting a true sense of their size, layout, and ambiance. They can “walk” to the poolside, take in the serene surroundings of the spa, or explore the dining options with panoramic views. This immersive experience allows travelers to envision themselves enjoying these amenities, creating a powerful emotional connection that motivates them to book their stay.

Moreover, virtual tours can highlight the accessibility and convenience of these amenities. Guests can navigate through the property, seeing how close their room is to the pool, the fitness center, or the dining areas.

  • Boost Sales

In an industry where visuals matter, virtual tours provide a compelling edge. These immersive experiences not only capture viewers’ attention but also keep them engaged for longer periods. When guests can explore a hotel’s rooms, amenities, and surroundings in detail, they develop a stronger connection and attachment to the property.

This heightened engagement often leads to increased conversions. Potential guests who have experienced a virtual tour are more likely to proceed with a booking because they have a clearer understanding of what to expect during their stay. The transparency and trust established through virtual tours reduce any uncertainties that might typically deter travelers from making a reservation.

  • Competitive Advantage

By offering potential guests an immersive and engaging way to explore their property, you can differentiate your property from competitors who rely solely on static images and descriptions. This level of transparency and interactivity not only piques the interest of travelers but also builds trust in the brand.

Hotels that embrace virtual tours demonstrate a commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience from the very beginning of the booking process. This dedication can leave a lasting impression and set the stage for a positive guest relationship. It’s no surprise that travelers are increasingly inclined to choose hotels that offer such immersive experiences over those that don’t.

By showcasing your USPs, amenities, and ambiance through virtual tours, hotels are better equipped to capture the attention and loyalty of these travelers, ultimately gaining a competitive edge in the market.

  • Saves Cost and Time

Traditional marketing efforts often require substantial investments in professional photography, videography, and graphic design, not to mention the time spent coordinating and shooting these assets. In contrast, virtual tours streamline this process, reducing the need for extensive photoshoots and video productions.

By capturing a property in its entirety through virtual tours, hotels can showcase every aspect of their establishment without the need for multiple shoots or constant updates to marketing materials. This not only reduces costs but also saves time, allowing hotels to focus their resources on other critical aspects of guest satisfaction and experience enhancement.

Moreover, the versatility of virtual tours means that they can be easily updated or modified as needed. Whether a hotel undergoes renovations, adds new amenities, or simply wants to refresh its online presence, virtual tours can be adapted with relative ease. This agility eliminates the need for frequent and costly reshoots or rebranding efforts, offering a cost-effective solution.

  • Marketing and Brand Building

Virtual tours have emerged as a game-changer in elevating your brand image. Through these tours, hotels can craft a compelling narrative, highlighting their distinct features, style, and ambiance, all while engaging potential guests on a deeper level.

Virtual hotel marketing enhances a hotel’s online presence and visibility. By embedding these tours on their website, sharing them on social media, and leveraging them in marketing campaigns, hotels can capture the attention of travelers who seek engaging and informative content. This not only drives traffic to their online platforms but also positions the hotel as a forward-thinking and guest-centric establishment.

Furthermore, virtual tours for hotels create memorable experiences that leave a lasting impression. Guests who have explored a hotel through a virtual tour are more likely to remember and share their experience with others , effectively becoming brand advocates.

Consistency is also key in brand building, and virtual tours offer the advantage of delivering a consistent and authentic representation of the hotel to potential guests. This consistency fosters trust and reliability, further strengthening the hotel’s brand image.

To sum it up, virtual tours are not merely a marketing tool; they are a powerful vehicle for brand building.

Now that we know how virtual tours can benefit your business, let’s dig into the various types of virtual tours.

Hotel virtual tours come in various forms, each designed to showcase different aspects of the property and enhance the guest experience. Here are some common types:

360-Degree Hotel Tours of Rooms and Suites : These immersive tours allow potential guests to explore every nook and cranny of hotel rooms and suites, providing a comprehensive view of the accommodations’ layout, decor, and amenities.

Virtual Tours of Common Areas : Beyond individual rooms, virtual tours can encompass communal spaces like the lobby, restaurants, bars, and spa facilities. These tours give viewers a taste of the hotel’s overall ambiance and style.

Interactive Maps and Floor Plans : Interactive maps and floor plans provide an overview of the entire property, making it easier for guests to understand its layout and proximity to various amenities.

Virtual Reality (VR) Experiences: VR takes virtual tours to the next level, allowing users to explore hotel spaces with VR headsets . This immersive technology offers a highly engaging and lifelike experience.

Creating a hotel virtual tour involves careful planning and attention to detail. Start by defining your objectives and investing in the right equipment, such as a high-quality 360-degree camera.

Plan your shot list, prepare the spaces you’ll feature, and capture high-resolution images with overlapping views. Then, edit and stitch these images together, ensuring color accuracy and image quality. Add interactive elements like clickable hotspots to enhance the user experience.

Optimize your tour for various viewing platforms, test it thoroughly, and promote it across your online channels. Encourage feedback to continually improve your virtual tour, providing potential guests with an engaging and informative preview of your hotel.

You can start by featuring them prominently on your hotel website; and creating dedicated pages for rooms, common areas, and amenities. Extend reach by integrating them into online booking sites and sharing highlights on your social media profiles. Incorporate virtual tours into email marketing campaigns to engage potential guests and consider offering virtual reality (VR) experiences in your hotel’s lobby.

Don’t forget to optimize your Google My Business listing and encourage sales teams to include tour links in email signatures. By smartly utilizing these channels, you can provide an immersive and informative preview of your hotel to a wide audience.

Implementing hotel virtual tours can present challenges, but with careful planning and effective strategies, these obstacles can be overcome.

One common challenge is the initial investment in equipment and technology, which can be managed by choosing the right tools that align with your budget and objectives.

Another hurdle is ensuring that virtual tours remain up to date, especially in dynamic environments. Regular updates and maintenance help address this concern. Additionally, the potential learning curve for staff involved in creating and managing virtual tours can be managed through training and practice.

Finally, the need to continually promote and integrate virtual tours into various platforms can be met with a robust marketing strategy.

With a proactive approach, hotels can successfully navigate these challenges and reap the rewards of enhanced guest engagement and bookings.

As the travel industry continues to evolve, the value of virtual tours for hotels becomes increasingly clear. They empower both hotels and travelers, making the booking process more immersive and transparent.

So, whether you’re a hotelier looking to stay ahead in a competitive landscape or a traveler seeking the perfect getaway, embrace the future of hospitality with hotel virtual tours.

Unlock the doors to a new way of experiencing hotels, where exploration knows no bounds, and booking a room becomes an adventure in itself.

Welcome to the future of hospitality – welcome to hotel virtual tours.

The Impact of Virtual Tours on Guest Satisfaction

Virtual hotel tours have quickly become a game changer in the hospitality industry, revolutionizing the way guests plan and book their accommodations. By providing an interactive and realistic representation of the hotel, virtual tours give guests a clear understanding of the space, layout, and amenities available.

This transparency greatly enhances guest satisfaction as it eliminates any surprises or disappointments upon arrival. Guests can now have a complete visual understanding of what to expect, resulting in a more informed and confident booking decision.

Furthermore, virtual tours enable guests to have a sense of ownership over their chosen accommodation. By virtually exploring the hotel, guests can mentally picture themselves in the space and envision how they will utilize the amenities. This emotional connection created through virtual tours leads to a higher level of guest satisfaction as guests feel more engaged with the hotel even before setting foot on the property.

Benefits of Virtual Hotel Tours for Guests

Virtual hotel tours offer a multitude of benefits for guests, making them an invaluable tool in the booking process. Firstly, virtual tours provide an immersive experience that allows guests to get a true sense of the hotel’s ambiance and atmosphere.

From the lobby to the guest rooms, from the pool area to the on-site restaurants, guests can virtually stroll through the entire property, taking in the sights and sounds , and getting a feel for the overall vibe. This level of detail is unparalleled and provides a much more engaging experience than simply scrolling through static images.

Secondly, virtual tours offer a convenient and time-saving solution for guests. With just a few clicks, guests can explore multiple hotels, compare features, and make informed decisions, all from the comfort of their own homes .

This eliminates the need for time-consuming site visits and allows guests to efficiently narrow down their options. In today’s fast-paced world, where time is of the essence, virtual tours provide a streamlined and hassle-free booking experience.

Lastly, virtual tours cater to the needs of tech-savvy travelers who value convenience and efficiency. By embracing this cutting-edge technology, hotels can attract a new generation of guests who are accustomed to the digital world. Virtual tours offer a seamless and interactive experience that aligns with the expectations of modern travelers, resulting in heightened guest satisfaction and increased bookings.

How Virtual Tours are Transforming the Booking Process

The traditional booking process often involves hours of research, browsing through countless hotel websites, and relying on static images and written descriptions to make a decision. Virtual tours , on the other hand, have revolutionized this process by providing a dynamic and realistic experience. Guests can now explore every inch of the hotel, from the grand entrance to the smallest details, all with the click of a button.

This transformation in the booking process is not only beneficial for guests but also for hotels. Virtual tours have proven to be an effective marketing tool, capturing the attention of potential guests and enticing them to book. B

y showcasing the hotel in an interactive and engaging manner, virtual tours create a lasting impression that sets the property apart from its competitors. Hotels that embrace this technology gain a competitive edge in the market and attract a wider audience of tech-savvy travelers.

The Future of Virtual Hotel Tours

As virtual reality and augmented reality technologies continue to advance, the future of virtual hotel tours looks incredibly promising. Soon, guests will be able to experience hotels in a truly immersive way, almost as if they were physically present. Imagine being able to walk through the hotel , interact with virtual staff, and even test out the amenities before making a booking. The possibilities are endless, and the potential for guest satisfaction is immense.

In addition, the integration of virtual hotel tours with other cutting-edge technologies is on the horizon. Artificial intelligence and chatbots can be utilized to provide personalized virtual tours, catering to the specific preferences and needs of each guest. This level of customization will not only enhance guest satisfaction but also streamline the booking process by offering tailored recommendations and options.

Virtual Hotel Tours vs. Traditional Marketing Methods

In the digital age, traditional marketing methods such as printed brochures and static images are becoming less effective in capturing the attention of potential guests. Virtual hotel tours , on the other hand, offer a dynamic and immersive experience that is far more engaging and memorable.

By allowing guests to virtually step inside the hotel, experience the ambiance, and explore the amenities, virtual tours create a lasting impression that stays with the guests long after they have left the website.

Furthermore, virtual tours provide a level of transparency that traditional marketing methods simply cannot match. Guests can see exactly what they are getting, eliminating any doubts or concerns. This transparency builds trust and confidence in the hotel, resulting in higher guest satisfaction and ultimately, more bookings.

Implementing Virtual Tours in Your Hotel Marketing Strategy

To fully reap the benefits of virtual hotel tours, it is essential for hotels to incorporate them into their marketing strategy. Firstly, hotels should invest in high-quality virtual tour software and equipment to ensure a seamless and realistic experience. The virtual tour should be easy to navigate, visually appealing, and compatible with various devices and platforms.

Once the virtual tour is ready, it should be prominently featured on the hotel’s website and other online platforms. Hotels can also leverage social media platforms and online travel agencies to showcase their virtual tours and reach a wider audience. By making the virtual tour easily accessible and highly visible, hotels can attract more potential guests and increase their booking conversion rates.

Conclusion: Embracing the Future of Hotel Bookings with Virtual Tours

Virtual hotel tours have proven to be a game changer in the hospitality industry, revolutionizing the way guests plan, book, and experience their accommodations. The immersive and realistic nature of virtual tours enhances guest satisfaction by providing a transparent and engaging booking process. Guests can explore every aspect of the hotel, from the ambiance to the amenities, making informed decisions and feeling a sense of ownership over their chosen accommodation.

As technology continues to advance, the future of virtual hotel tours looks incredibly promising. With the integration of virtual reality and augmented reality, guests will soon be able to experience hotels in a truly immersive way. The potential for customization and personalization is immense, further enhancing guest satisfaction and streamlining the booking process.

Virtual Reality (VR) Hotel Tours: A Game Changer for Bookings

In conclusion, Virtual Reality hotel tours represent a paradigm shift in hotel marketing and guest engagement. They offer a level of immersion and interactivity that traditional marketing methods cannot match. By providing potential guests with realistic previews of their stay and enhancing the booking process, hotels can drive more bookings, reduce cancellations, and create memorable guest experiences. As VR technology continues to evolve, it's clear that this game-changing tool is here to stay and will play an increasingly vital role in the future of hotel bookings.

In today's fast-paced world, technology has revolutionized every aspect of our lives, and the hospitality industry is no exception. Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a game-changing tool, breathing new life into hotel marketing and guest experience. This immersive technology has the potential to transform the way hotels showcase their properties, captivate potential guests, and ultimately boost bookings. In this article, we delve into the world of VR hotel tours and explore how they are redefining the landscape of hotel marketing and guest engagement.

The Power of Immersion :

VR is all about immersion. It transports users to a completely different environment, providing a sensory-rich experience that goes beyond the limitations of traditional marketing methods. In the realm of hotel tours, this means that potential guests can virtually step into a hotel's lobby, wander through its rooms, explore amenities, and even savor the ambiance of on-site restaurants—all from the comfort of their own home.

A Realistic Preview:

One of the most significant advantages of VR hotel tours is that they offer a remarkably realistic preview of what a guest can expect during their stay. Rather than relying on static images and descriptions, potential guests can interact with the hotel virtually. They can assess the layout of rooms, gauge the size of beds, and even admire the panoramic views from balconies. This level of detail instills confidence and helps guests make more informed booking decisions.

Enhancing the Booking Process:

VR tours have the power to enhance the booking process significantly. When potential guests have a 360-degree view of a hotel's rooms and facilities, they can confidently select the accommodations that best suit their preferences. This leads to fewer surprises upon arrival, reducing the likelihood of booking cancellations or negative reviews.

Engaging Content for Marketing:

In an era when attention spans are dwindling, hotels need engaging content to capture their audience's interest. VR hotel tours provide precisely that. Hotels can share these immersive experiences on their websites, social media, and other digital platforms, making their marketing efforts more captivating and shareable. This not only attracts potential guests but also boosts the hotel's online presence and brand visibility.

Virtual Site Inspections:

For event planners and corporate travelers, VR hotel tours offer the convenience of virtual site inspections. Instead of physically visiting potential venues, event organizers can explore meeting rooms, ballrooms, and conference facilities virtually. This saves time and resources while enabling event planners to make more informed decisions.

Remote Destination Exploration:

VR hotel tours also benefit travelers who are planning destination weddings or vacations to unfamiliar locations. They can explore the hotel's proximity to nearby attractions, beaches, or cultural sites, helping them decide if the hotel aligns with their travel goals.

Creating Memorable Guest Experiences:

Once guests have booked their stay, VR can continue to play a role in enhancing their experience. Hotels can provide VR headsets in rooms for guests to enjoy virtual tours of the hotel's spa, restaurants, and other amenities. This adds an extra layer of entertainment and convenience to the guest experience.

Overcoming Language Barriers:

For international travelers, language barriers can be a significant hurdle in understanding hotel amenities and services. VR hotel tours transcend language barriers by providing a visual, interactive experience that doesn't rely on text descriptions. This is particularly valuable in attracting a diverse range of guests.

Sustainability and Reduced Travel:

In an era when sustainability is a growing concern, VR hotel tours offer an eco-friendlier alternative to in-person site visits. By reducing the need for extensive travel for inspection and decision-making, hotels can contribute to environmental conservation efforts.

The Future of Hotel Bookings:

As technology continues to advance, VR hotel tours are poised to become the future of hotel bookings. They provide a competitive edge, increase guest engagement, and ultimately boost revenue. Hotels that embrace this immersive technology are likely to see a significant return on investment as they cater to the evolving preferences of tech-savvy travelers.

In conclusion, Virtual Reality hotel tours represent a paradigm shift in hotel marketing and guest engagement. They offer level of immersion and interactivity that traditional marketing methods cannot match.

The Role Of Virtual Tours In Hotel Booking Systems

Introduction .

In the rapidly evolving hospitality industry, incorporating virtual hotel tours into hotel booking systems has become a significant game-changer. These immersive experiences, often known as 360 virtual tours or VR tours, offer prospective guests an unprecedented understanding of what they can anticipate, promoting increased direct bookings. Potential guests can take a 360 degree view of a hotel room in New York or Las Vegas without leaving their home, making Google a remarkable tool for marketing campaigns. These tours provide an interactive way for customers to explore amenities and make informed decisions. Hoteliers find that a well-constructed Matterport virtual tour can be a compelling lure, bringing the experience of travel to the potential customer. Consequently, this technology is set to redefine the future trajectory of hotel management and the hospitality industry at large.

What Are Virtual Hotel Tours?

Virtual Tours are a revolutionary technology in the hospitality industry, particularly useful for hotels. Both potential guests and hoteliers benefit from this innovative tool. When a prospective guest embarks on a tour, it enables an immersive experience that goes beyond static images or textual descriptions. They get to explore hotel rooms, amenities, and other facilities through 360-degree photos, which provide a comprehensive perspective of what’s on offer.

The Mechanics Of A Virtual Tour

A hotel virtual tour typically involves a series of 360-degree photographs, or a 3D model, blended seamlessly to create an immersive virtual reality. The participants – or viewers – navigate through the hotel using hotspots, points of interest that link different areas together. This interactive virtual tour can transport potential guests into a hotel room in New York or Las Vegas, all without moving from their couch.

Virtual Tour And Hotel Booking

Virtual tours significantly influence the booking decisions of potential guests. The interactive experience, coupled with the opportunity for direct bookings, simplifies the decision-making process. More often than not, a prospective guest who takes a virtual tour is more likely to convert into a direct booking.

Virtual Reality And Social Media

The integration of virtual reality hotel tours on social media platforms enhances the reach of these tours. Potential customers can easily share their unique experiences with their network, leading to increased visibility for the hotel.

In conclusion, the strategic use of a virtual tour, whether it’s a Matterport virtual tour or a Google virtual tour, within a hotel’s marketing campaigns can positively impact the hotel’s bookings and overall guest experience. The hospitality industry is rapidly evolving, and the incorporation of virtual tours is a testament to that progress.

Why Are Virtual Tours For Hotels Effective In Attracting More Guests?

The effectiveness of virtual tours in attracting more hotel guests.

Virtual tours are an innovative tool that has proven to be highly effective in compelling hotel bookings. The key to their efficacy lies in the immersive experience they provide. Imagine a potential guest in New York or Las Vegas being able to embark on a virtual tour of a hotel room from the comfort of their own home. They can explore the amenities on offer, navigate through the hotel using interactive hotspots, and get a comprehensive 360-degree view of the premises. This level of interaction is more engaging than static images or textual descriptions, and it offers the prospective guest a realistic sense of the hotel’s atmosphere and services.

Enhancing Guest Experience With Virtual Reality

In addition to the standard virtual tour, many hotels are now employing virtual reality hotel tours to enhance the guest experience. These VR tours take the interactive virtual tour to another level, allowing potential guests to virtually step inside the hotel room. Whether it’s a Matterport virtual tour or a Google virtual tour, this technological tool holds the power to create an impressive, immersive experience that encourages direct bookings.

The Power Of Social Media And Virtual Tours

The integration of virtual tours into social media platforms significantly increases the reach of these tours. Potential customers can quickly share their virtual tour experiences with their network, thus increasing visibility for the hotel. It’s a powerful marketing strategy that has seen many hotels experience an increase in bookings.

In conclusion, virtual tours are a potent tool in the hospitality industry. They provide potential guests with a realistic, immersive experience of a hotel that static images or descriptions simply cannot match. Whether the prospective guest is in New York or Las Vegas, they can explore and experience the hotel in a unique way, ultimately leading to increased bookings for the hotel. By incorporating virtual reality and integrating these tours with social media platforms, hotels can significantly enhance their marketing campaigns and guest experiences.

Benefits Of Virtual Tours For Hotels

Showcase amenities.

Virtual tours are an effective tool for hotels to accurately showcase the variety and quality of amenities they offer. By allowing potential guests to virtually explore restaurants, swimming pools, fitness centers, spas, and more, hotels can provide a realistic and comprehensive view of their facilities. This level of detail is often unachievable through traditional photographs or descriptions. The immersive nature of a virtual tour allows guests to navigate freely through different areas, giving them a sense of what it would be like to use these amenities. This enhanced interactive experience can greatly influence booking decisions, with guests having a clear expectation of what they are paying for. Therefore, virtual tours not only enhance customer experience but also act as a powerful marketing tool for hotels, potentially leading to increased bookings and a competitive edge in the hospitality industry.

Boost Sales

Virtual tours serve as a valuable tool in boosting hotel sales. The immersive, realistic experience they offer gives potential guests a compelling preview of what the hotel offers. This interactive approach allows a hotel to showcase its unique selling propositions, be it luxurious rooms, top-notch facilities, or stunning views. Prospective guests can explore these features at their own pace and convenience, which often results in increased direct bookings. Furthermore, virtual tours can significantly reduce the time taken to make a booking decision by providing a comprehensive view of the hotel’s offerings. They enable potential customers to visualize their stay, thereby creating a strong emotional connection that motivates them to proceed with a booking. Virtual tours also reduce booking cancellations, as they align customer expectations with reality. In short, incorporating tours into a hotel’s marketing strategy can significantly enhance its sales performance.

Competitive Advantage

In the highly competitive hospitality industry, having a unique edge is essential. Virtual tours offer just that, serving as a powerful differentiator that sets a hotel apart from its competitors. Adopting this innovative technology demonstrates a hotel’s commitment to providing a superior customer experience, from the booking stage to the actual stay. Virtual tours enable potential guests to immerse themselves in the hotel’s environment and facilities, fostering a deep connection that static images or text cannot replicate. This novel, interactive experience can be a decisive factor in attracting customers and influencing their booking decisions. Moreover, it portrays the hotel as trend-conscious and tech-savvy, appealing to a wider, more diverse demographic, especially the younger, tech-savvy generations. Thus, integrating virtual tours into the hotel booking system can provide a substantial competitive advantage, propelling the hotel to the forefront of the hospitality industry.

Saves Cost And Time

Implementing virtual tours can contribute to significant cost and time savings for hotels. In terms of cost, while the initial setup might require an investment, the return on investment can be substantial, as virtual tours help increase direct bookings and reduce cancellations. By providing a realistic preview of the hotel, guests are less likely to be disappointed and cancel their reservations. Furthermore, virtual tours save considerable time for both the hotel and the potential guests.

For the hotel, virtual tours can reduce the number of inquiries about the property and its amenities, as guests can get most of the information they need from the tour. For guests, the ability to explore the hotel at their own pace, from the comfort of their own home, saves time and makes the decision-making process easier and more efficient. Thus, the integration of virtual tours into the hotel booking system can drive significant efficiency and cost-effectiveness, further reinforcing the value of this innovative technology in the hospitality industry.

Marketing And Brand Building

Virtual tours are a valuable component of a hotel’s marketing and branding strategy. They offer a dynamic, immersive way to showcase a hotel’s accommodations, amenities, and distinguishing features. Potential guests are able to virtually “walk” through the hotel, gaining a detailed understanding of the layout, decor, and overall ambiance. These realistic, interactive tours go beyond traditional advertising, offering a unique experience that can significantly influence a potential guest’s perception of the hotel and their booking decision.

The use of virtual reality technology further amplifies the impact of these tours, providing a unique, innovative experience that reinforces the hotel’s brand image as a forward-thinking, customer-focused entity. Furthermore, virtual tours can be integrated into various marketing channels, including the hotel’s website, social media platforms, and online travel agencies, enhancing their reach and effectiveness. By offering a unique, engaging way for potential guests to explore the hotel, virtual tours help in building a strong, compelling brand image that sets the hotel apart in a highly competitive market.

Types Of Hotel Virtual Tours

3d virtual tours.

Hoteliers can create a 3D model of their property using a digital twin to offer a more realistic and engaging experience to potential guests. These 3D tours allow the viewers to navigate through the hotel as if they were physically there, providing a comprehensive view of the rooms, amenities, and facilities. This interactive experience can greatly influence booking decisions by providing a clear expectation of the stay.

Google Virtual Tours

Google Virtual Tours utilize the technology of Google Street View to provide a 360-degree view of the hotel. These tours are integrated into the hotel’s Google My Business account and can be viewed directly from Google search results, thus increasing visibility and accessibility. Google virtual tours are an effective way to boost the hotel’s online presence and attract more potential guests.

Matterport Virtual Tours

Matterport Virtual Tours offer a seamless, interactive 3D experience. These tours allow viewers to move through the hotel property as if they were actually there. Matterport’s powerful 3D modeling technology helps to create a realistic and immersive virtual environment, enabling potential guests to virtually explore the hotel rooms and amenities in detail.

Each of these virtual tour types offers unique benefits in terms of realism, interactivity, and accessibility. Regardless of the type of tour chosen, the incorporation of this technology into the hotel’s booking system can significantly enhance the guest experience and increase bookings.

How To Create A Compelling Hotel Virtual Tour

Creating a compelling tour involves multiple steps that need to be executed meticulously to ensure maximum interactivity and engagement.

Planning The Tour

First, it’s important to carefully plan the virtual tour route. This includes deciding which areas of the hotel to feature in the tour, such as guest rooms, restaurants, leisure facilities, and other amenities.

Capturing High-Quality Images

Next, capture high-quality, panoramic images of each chosen area. For the best results, consider hiring a professional photographer who specializes in 360-degree photography.

Creating The Virtual Tour

Once the images are ready, use a virtual tour software like Matterport or Google’s Tour Creator to stitch together the images into a seamless, interactive tour.

Adding Interactivity

Enhance the tour interactivity by adding hotspots – clickable areas that display additional information or link to different sections of the tour.

Integration And Promotion

Finally, integrate the virtual tour into your hotel’s booking system and promote it on your website, social media platforms, and Google My Business profile.

A well-executed virtual tour can greatly enhance the guest experience, leading to increased bookings and customer satisfaction.

Where To Display Virtual Tours?

The placement of virtual tours is crucial in maximizing their effectiveness. Here are some key platforms where hotels can display their rooms.

Hotel’s Website

The hotel’s own website is the primary platform for displaying the virtual tour. It can be integrated into the homepage or dedicated ‘accommodations’ or ‘amenities’ pages. This allows potential guests to explore the hotel in detail when considering a booking.

Social Media Platforms

Displaying virtual tours on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn can significantly increase their reach. These platforms also allow users to share the virtual tour with their network, amplifying its visibility.

Google My Business Profile

Google Virtual Tours can be displayed directly on the hotel’s Google My Business profile. This enhances the hotel’s online presence, as the virtual tour can be viewed directly from Google search results.

Online Travel Agencies

Virtual tours can also be shared on Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) such as Booking.com or Expedia. These platforms are frequented by potential guests, making them ideal for showcasing the hotel’s virtual tour.

Choosing the right platforms for displaying your virtual tour can help maximize its impact, leading to increased bookings and improved guest experience.

Conclusion

In an era marked by digital innovation, the introduction of virtual tours in hotel booking systems represents a significant leap forward in enhancing customer experience. So, Virtual tours offer an immersive and interactive visualization of a hotel’s amenities and settings, offering a tangible edge in a highly competitive industry. Furthermore, They serve as a powerful tool for marketing, promoting direct bookings, and building a strong brand image. Oasis reunion: Maldron Hotels accused of cancelling booking on concert night before 're-listing room for higher price'

An Oasis fan says he booked a room with Maldron Hotels in Manchester city centre for 20 July, the final night of Oasis's run of shows at Heaton Park, but after the gigs were announced, the hotel cancelled the booking "due to a technical error".

A hotel chain in Manchester has been accused of cancelling a booking after the Oasis reunion was announced - and relisting the room for a higher price.

Sacha Lord, the night-time economy adviser for Greater Manchester , wrote on X last night that he'd been contacted by "several people" who were told their rooms had been cancelled by Maldron Hotels after a "computer error".

He claimed they were later "back up for three times the price".

Several users have replied saying they have been affected by the issue.

Oasis fan Mark Slinger, 36, who lives on the Isle of Man, told Sky News he booked a room at the four-star Maldron Hotel in Manchester city centre for 20 July - the final night of Oasis's run of shows at Heaton Park next year.

He made the £90 reservation through booking.com yesterday morning when the band announced their major reunion tour.

Hey @MaldronHotels . I'm being contacted by several people who booked your hotel for the Oasis concert, to say their rooms have just been cancelled and are now back up for three times the price. I'm sure this is a "computer error"... easy to correct. Do the right thing. — Sacha Lord (@Sacha_Lord) August 27, 2024

However, he was contacted by the hotel in the evening asking him to cancel the booking.

The email added a cancellation request had been sent, which Mark was asked to "accept promptly".

He told Sky News he hasn't accepted the request and won't be doing so. He also doesn't believe the issue was down to a "technical error".

"They realised they can cancel and re-sell at four times the price due to the Oasis gig," he said.

Maldron Hotels told Sky News: "Due to a technical error with our booking system on 26th & 27th August 2024, substantially more rooms were booked than were available for the nights of the Oasis concerts on 11th/12th/19th/20th July 2025 at Maldron Hotel Manchester City and Maldron Hotel Cathedral Quarter.

"As a result, we are unable to honour all bookings made on these dates, and we are actively engaging with customers regarding their bookings.

"The hotels are currently not taking any bookings while we investigate the issue. This is not an attempt to resell rooms at inflated prices, rather an overbooking issue due to a technical error with our booking systems.

"Additionally, due to the same technical error, a small number of customers were able to book the rooms at a higher price later that evening. We will also be unable to accommodate these bookings.

"We will be honouring all bookings made prior to 26th August. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Fans who have been booking hotels for the Oasis reunion shows in Manchester have been less than pleased as it has been reported that the Maldron Hotel has been cancelling reservations that were made in anticipation for the shows in order to upcharge fans for their rooms.

The band are set to play at Heaton Park in Manchester on July 11, 12 ,19 and 20, 2025. As per the BBC , a spokesman for Maldron Hotels shared that the cancellation of the reservations was due to “an overbooking issue” and not in an attempt to “resell rooms at inflated prices”. The spokesperson added that all reservations made before August 26  would be honoured.

One fan by the name of Lily Stroud told the BBC that she “took a risk” and reserved rooms for two weekends at the Maldron Hotel in Manchester in July 2025 after rumours of Oasis reuniting began circling around. Allegedly, the hotel went on to cancel her bookings following the band’s reunion announcement.

However, the technical issue did allow “a small number of customers” to reserve rooms at an inflated price. The hotel spokesman shared that those bookings would be cancelled. The hotel chain has issued an apology and is currently not taking any new reservations as they investigate the issue.

WARNING! Booked Maldron Hotel Manchester yesterday for 12th July 2025 -which was confirmed-just received this message cancelling our room! No rooms left and other hotel rooms triple the price!! Disgusting that @MaldronHotels manchester cancelled my hotel booking for 11th July which I booked at a reasonable rate before the Oasis tour dates were released. Now they’ve cancelled it so they can sell the room 4x the cost 🙃 you’ve absolutely lost a customer forever here 👍 — Steph Staszko (@StephStaz) August 27, 2024
@MaldronHotels @bookingcom please can you explain the numerous hotel booking cancellations for (conveniently) the same dates as the Manchester oasis tour dates, yet the same rooms still being on booking .com for over triple the price of what I originally booked the room as? pic.twitter.com/TZImxr7vwa — Leah 🪩☭ (@leahnesbit_) August 28, 2024
Disgusting service from @MaldronHotels . 'Technical issue', yeah right! So how many of us have had our rooms cancelled now? Greater Manchester’s night-time economy adviser Sacha Lord took to his official X/Twitter account to address the situation and to call upon the hotel chain to make the situation right.

“Hey @MaldronHotels. I’m being contacted by several people who booked your hotel for the Oasis concert, to say their rooms have just been cancelled and are now back up for three times the price. I’m sure this is a “computer error”… easy to correct. Do the right thing,” read his tweet.

In other news, Oasis have responded to speculation over a potential headline set at next year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Yesterday’s tour announcement said the confirmed dates “will be the band’s exclusive European appearances”. Additionally, reports in The Guardian  and  Somerset Live  also claimed that they would not be headlining the festival next year.

Now, Oasis have responded to the the whispers about Glasto in a post on social media. “Despite media speculation, Oasis will not be playing Glastonbury 2025 or any other festivals next year,” it began. “The only way to see the band perform will be on their Oasis Live ’25 World Tour.”

Elsewhere, Ticketmaster has outlined its strict rules for purchasing tickets  ahead of the sales – confirming that customers will only be able to order four tickets per household and card.

Meanwhile, Oasis fans are currently speculating who could join the formerly estranged Gallagher brothers on stage next summer. Previous reports  claimed “no other original Oasis member is expected to join the reunion” , and that “the members of Noel Gallagher’s  High Flying Birds  will step in”.

However,  it is now expected that co-founding member Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs will be hitting the road too .

Oasis Live ’25 is reportedly set to make a staggering £400million , and will follow the  expanded ‘Definitely Maybe’ 30th anniversary reissue , out this Friday (August 30).

£38m ‘virtual’ centre to study ‘alternative proteins’ launched

A £38 million “virtual” centre that will study whether alternative protein sources such as lab-grown meat, plant proteins and insects could become part of the UK diet is due to be launched in the UK.

The National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (Napic), headed up by the University of Leeds, will explore whether cultured meat or proteins derived from plants, fungi, algae, insects and microbes can be healthy as well as sustainable.

As well as academics, more than 120 organisations are involved, including small and large businesses, farmers, regulators and councils, according to Professor Anwesha Sarkar, project leader for Napic and director of research and innovation at Leeds’ School of Food Science and Nutrition.

She said: “Our ambition is to create this massive innovation ecosystem with 350-plus partners so that it can drive the UK to become the global superpower in alternative proteins.”

It is estimated animal agriculture produces up to a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions. Meanwhile, figures suggest more than 90% of people in the UK are not getting enough fibre – a carbohydrate found naturally in plants.

The researchers said their aim is to create an innovation centre that can secure “a continuous supply of safe, tasty, affordable and healthy proteins which also support net zero goals and futureproof the UK’s food and animal feed security”.

Professor Guy Poppy, deputy executive chairman of the Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and food sector champion for UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), said the “food we currently eat and the way we produce it is doing terrible damage to our planet and health”.

He said the Napic investment will help position the UK “as a leader in the global alternative proteins market, ready to meet both current and future challenges”.

Dr Rob Hancock, deputy director of the Advanced Plant Growth Centre at the James Hutton Institute in Scotland, said the UK currently imports more than £15 billion worth of protein products, including meat, dairy, eggs and seafood, as well as £3 billion worth of animal feed.

He said: “We need to shift to a system where we are able to produce more of those protein products within the United Kingdom… in a way that is more environmentally friendly.”

Dr Hancock said around 75% of human food comes from only 12 plant species but “there are about 14,000 plant species which are edible and available to be exploited”.

Professor Louise Dye, co-director of the Institute of Sustainable Food at the University of Sheffield, said at present only about 9% of the protein purchased in supermarkets comes from alternative proteins, such as soy and peas, highlighting the importance of taking “the consumer with us on this journey”.

She said: “Food habits are acquired mainly in childhood, and they track into our adult life.

“That determines a lot of the foods that we like, dislike or have cravings for.

“If we are changing these entrenched preferences that is difficult, so we need to help consumers transition to healthier diets (with) sustainable alternative protein sources, and that will require us understanding their current consumption patterns.

“We can use nudging and other techniques to shift consumer choices, and those have been shown to be effective, but we need to think about replacing traditional, well-liked meals with alternative proteins as the main protein source.”

Napic, which received £15 million in funding from the UKRI, is a collaboration between researchers at the University of Leeds, the James Hutton Institute, Imperial College London and the University of Sheffield.

The centre, which will run for five years, is also expected to receive £23 million from stakeholders including small and large businesses and other academic partners.
