Scottish Holiday cottages

Holiday accommodation in Scotland

Scottish tourist board 5 star grading.

When self-catering cottages in Scotland are awarded 5 stars from Visit Scotland (formerly known as the Scottish Tourist Board) then they are classified as exceptional self-catering accommodation. The VisitScotland star grading is often criticised but if you want to stay in a Scottish holiday cottage with 5 stars then it does have their highest star grading possible so you can book with confidence that it offers top quality accommodation and facilities. The 5 star cottages in Scotland listed on www.scotland-holiday-cottage.com (and there are some in all areas) represent the top quality Scottish cottages and offer luxury self-catering. Many top quality cottages don't apply for the listing and so lots of the holiday homes on the site are of a 5-star quality and standard (or 6 star !) but don't have the logo from Visit Scotland. The difference between 4 stars and 5 stars can be just whether the glasses are crystal or there is a TV in every bedroom - and not all visitors would welcome or value these additional extras! Many of us looking for a vacation rental home would appreciate the charming holiday cottage set in an idyllic, peaceful location with an amazing view. All Which Cottage Scotland cottages offer fabulous self-catering holiday accommodation to rent whether they have the 5 stars awarded from the Scottish Tourist Board or not!

Exceptional, self-catering accommodation

4 star and other grading logos may be found at: Accommodation standards for Scottish self-caterers Many of the holiday cottages listed on Which Cottage Scotland belong to the ASSC ( Association of Scotland's Self-caterers ). Members of ASSC are Scottish self-catering owners who offer a very high standard of cleanliness and friendliness. The Association of Scottish Self-caterers ( ASSC ) is the self-catering trade association in Scotland for holiday cottage owners. The self-catering cottage owners who are members of ASSC often recommend the best websites to advertise holiday cottages in Scotland on so scotland-holiday-cottage.com has been highly recommended amongst their members to other ASSC self-catering cottage owners. ASSC is an excellent trade body for self-catering cottage owners in Scotland and provides a collective voice for Scottish holiday home owners and offers many other benefits.

Where to Stay in Scotland

Scottish highlands & islands.

All the poems and songs written about the beauty that lies in the Scottish Highlands and Islands are all true. However, we still strongly recommend that you see it all for yourself!

With places like The Cairngorms National Park situated in the Scottish Highlands, you’ll find plenty of mountains to climb as well as incredible forest hikes that lead to hidden lochs.

Peace and serenity are what lie on the Scottish Islands, so if you are looking for a holiday full of wildlife and scenery, then places like the Isle of Skye will be sure to impress.

Top 3 Holiday Destinations in Scottish Highlands & Islands

The Highlands are even better than portrayed in the plethora of poems and songs written about them. The region covers nearly half of Scotland, yet is home to less than ten percent of the population, meaning you can really enjoy a sense of space.

 • The Cairngorms National Park and the Hebrides are two of many reasons to visit. As well as five fabulous ski resorts, there is a calendar packed full of events like the Highland Games and festivals dedicated to music and whisky.
 • The famous Loch Ness is amazing not only because of its legendary monster but for its stunning coastal regions and countless opportunities for activities.
 • As you drink in the silence on the Isle of Skye , you'll find it hard to believe it was once anything other than peaceful, yet both it and Moray are littered with remnants of a tempestuous history.

Self-catering cottages

The Gardeners Cottages provide luxury, self-catering rental accommodation on the banks of Loch Lomond, within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park . The holiday cottages are quiet and secluded on the west side of Loch Lomond.

Golf, walking, activities

We are adjacent to the Carrick Golf Course - a new course of championship standard. The world class Loch Lomond Golf Course is only 4 miles north on the shores of Loch Lomond. There are many other excellent golf courses in the area. This is a great area for walking, cycling, fishing and water sports. We are happy to advise and help you organise your activities.

Loch Lomond is a renowned location for romantic weddings and we have hosted many brides and grooms and guests in our cottages.

Accommodation

We have three holiday rental cottages on the shores of Loch Lomond:

Linnhe cottage

They are situated in the wooded grounds of Arden House, which is on the shores of the Loch. The cottages and garden are about 100 metres from the shore. The row of cottages is built along one side of a magnificent Victorian walled garden dating back to the 1860's which it is available for the recreation of our guests.

The breathtaking scenery of the surrounding heather-covered mountains makes this place so special. And Loch Lomond itself, immortalised in the well known traditional Scottish Song " The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond " , is indeed one of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland.

The cottages look out onto an enclosed area of lawn, trees and shrubs where you can often see rabbits and squirrels while you are having breakfast, or in Spring, families of ducks wandering about on expeditions from the loch.

If you fancy something not quite so quintessentially British, you might want to check out King Charles’ properties in Transylvania, famed for its association with Count Dracula and brutal real-life ruler Vlad the Impaler.

The former Prince first fell in love with the region in 1998, shortly after the death of Princess Diana, and was so smitten with the area that he bought two properties there.

He purchased his first cottage in 2006 in the Saxon village of Viscri and another in 2010 in the village of Zalanpatak for a rumored $15,100.
