Carnival Elation

About Carnival Elation

Carnival Elation was one of the first of Carnival Cruise Line's popular Fantasy-class ships and has been delighting cruisers of all age groups ever since. Chock full of amenities and activities, she was designed to create a fun-filled vacation for everyone in the family. Welcoming and comfortable, the 70,367-ton, 2,052-guest ship is sure to give you the time of your life! Fabulous upgrades in 2009 have modernized her as part of the line's "Evolutions of Fun" refurbishment program, including an adults-only sundeck, remodeled staterooms, suites and bathrooms and flat-screen TVs. Further enhancements are scheduled for late 2017.

Excitement is everywhere on the Carnival Elation, from its bustling multi-deck atrium to the spiraling three-level-high Twister Waterslide offering thrills at every turn. Relaxing amenities also abound, such as three swimming pools, six Jacuzzis and the Mark Twain Library, a quiet area where you can catch up on your reading. Indulge in a soothing treatment such as a hot stone massage at the 12,000-square-foot Spa Carnival. Try a new style at the Beauty Salon and keep in shape at the Fitness Center. Find the perfect gift at the Fun Shops.

Throughout Carnival Elation are fun bars and lounges where you can have conversations and your favorite drink. Relaxing Gatsby's, the swinging Duke's Piano Bar and the beautiful Plaza Bar in the lobby are just some of the popular venues. Stroll along the Promenade and stop in the Drama Bar. Another hot spot is the bustling Jekyll and Hyde Dance Club, complete with a DJ.

Both adults and kids will find plenty to do. Supervised age-specific fun youth activities will keep kids from ages 2 to 11 years happy and busy at Camp Carnival, which is like a summer camp, but at sea. Delighting children, is Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and Friends. Circle "C" club offers a "cool" place for those ages 12 to14 with a host of video games, dance parties, Karaoke and more. Pleasing teenagers ages 15-17 isn't easy, but they are sure to be thrilled with their very own Club 02 — open around the clock — with music, video games, food and new friends. Families can play 9-hole mini-golf course, shoot some hoops and jog around the padded track at the City Sports Park.

Be as active or not as you like on Carnival Elation. Quiet will surround you at the adults-only Serenity Retreat — a delightful oasis of tranquility. Experience this blissful area with swaying hammocks in the sea breeze and enjoy your favorite drink from the nearby bar as your cares simply melt away while you plan your next exciting day.

Treat your palate to a variety of delicious cuisine from an ever changing menu at the two grand main dining rooms, Inspiration and Imagination, serving exquisite cuisine, including healthy Spa Carnival selections, as well as vegetarian choices. The Taste Bar is another choice, while the Chef's Table is a foodie favorite. International cuisines and made-to-order options will make your taste buds smile at the poolside Tiffany's, featuring the Mongolian Wok custom stir-fry station, a deli and a dessert station with mouthwatering delights. Satisfy that craving for something tasty at the Pizza Pirate, known for its popular hand-tossed pizza. Stop in for specialty coffees, rich milkshakes and scrumptious desserts at the Musical Café.

After a day of fun, return to your comfortable home base. Settle in for the night in your choice of accommodations. Select from an Interior, Ocean View, Grand or Suite, all well-appointed. Enjoy the many perks, day or night a room steward will be available. Have your attendant call for your complimentary room service offered 24/7. After all, you are on vacation!

Exciting evenings include a dazzling Las Vegas-style production at the two-level Mikado Theatre and a show at the Cole Porter Club, where you can enjoy a more intimate ambiance. Go dancing and have an unforgettable time at the many music-filled piano bars, Duke's Gatsby's and the Musical Café. Hang out with your friends, family and fellow passengers at the Drama Bar or Romeo and Juliet Lounge. Hang out at the stunning Plaza Bar in the beautiful main atrium. Play some poker or slot games at the Casablanca Casino where the action never stops.

Carnival Elation sails on short cruises year-round to the Bahamas.

Carnival Elation cruise ship

Carnival Elation deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2024-2025-2026 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Carnival Cruise Line deckplan pdf (printable version).

Each of the Carnival Elation cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on Carnival Elation staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.

Carnival Elation (1998-built, last refurbished in 2017 / Fun Ship 2.0 , scheduled refurbishment in 2020 March, last drydocking in 2023 January-February) is the seventh of all eight Fantasy-class Carnival cruise ships - together with Fantasy , Imagination , Inspiration , and Paradise , and also the "balcony ships" Ecstasy , Fascination , Sensation .

Carnival Elation cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1094 staterooms for 2188 passengers (max capacity is 2626) served by 900 crew-staff. The boat has 11 passenger decks (7 with cabins), 12 lounges, and bars, 3 swimming pools, 6 Jacuzzis (large whirlpool hot tubs), 14 elevators.

Carnival Elation decks with passenger cabins have a total of 54 Suites, 564 Oceanviews, 408 Inside cabins, Self Service Laundromats (passenger use launderettes). Laundry facilities are at extra charge - $3,25 (per washer or dryer load) and $1,5 per box (detergent/water softener, dispensed from the vending machine in the room). Launderettes (open between 6:30 am - 12-midnight) are located on all cabin decks. Each laundry room is equipped with 2-3 washers, 2-3 dryers, 1 ironing board/iron. All laundry machines accept coins only (can’t be operated using S&S cards). While the ship is in port, washing machines are closed (only dryers and irons can be used). Valet laundry service is handled through the cabin steward. Prices are per item – wash-and-press ($2 – $7,50), no dry-cleaning.

Although the Elation ship didn’t receive Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades during its last 2014 refurbishment, it received routine maintenance (carpeting, cleaning, also new fitness equipment and some Club 02 (kids lounge) upgrades.

Carnival Elation deckplan changes 2020 refurbishment review

In 2019 (March 2-26) the ship entered drydock at Grand Bahama Shipyard ( Freeport Bahamas ). During the refurbishment, aft on Deck 9/Promenade (in the space previously occupied by the Cole Porter lounge) were added 30 new staterooms and the Alchemy Bar.

Other changes included remodeling several venues and adding JavaBlue Cafe (patisserie/coffee bar) and Bonsai Sushi Express (complimentary take-away dining option/made-to-order sushi).

During drydock 2023 (Jan 21-Feb 10) were conducted general maintenance works and only parts of the ship were updated/upgraded (new carpets and cosmetic enhancements).

Carnival Elation deckplan changes 2017 refurbishment review

The list of deck plan changes after the ship's 2017 drydock refurbishment (August 31 - September 27) done in  Freeport Bahamas  included:

  • A total of 38 new cabins were added, of which 2x Grand Vista Suites, 22x Junior Suites, 2x Scenic Oceanview, 12x Interior. Balconies were added to 98 cabins (on decks 5-Main, 6-Upper, 7-Empress). This changed the vessel's passenger capacity from 2052 (max 2606) to 2128 (max 2554).

Not my favorite

Aug 6th, 2024

We took an 8 night cruise in November of 2023 did not want to get off the ship but this time we could not wait for it to be over. I did not feel like I was on vacation which is very disappointing. To top it all off we won the "free diamond" with Diamond International which was exciting but we went to the store and my husband bought a very expensive pair of earrings and the offered to change them to yellow gold for us and said they would have delivered to our room on the ship. They did deliver but it was wrong. They set the earring in white gold which made no sense since that is what it already was. We were already out of port so what were were supposed to do? My husband was VERY upset! To pay so much for something and to not get it how you wanted is very upsetting. The combination of things going wrong made us rethink our cruising moving forward.

Family Caribbean Getaway

Aug 5th, 2024

We thoroughly enjoyed the small size of the Elation. Lines were minimal if there was one and staff was very kind and attentive. Never felt over crowded. Ease of exit and re-entry at ports was simple and quick. Highly recommend.

Still a great time

Jul 21st, 2024

Our cruise was not as spectacular as some of the others that we have been on but just like Carnival they always show a great time. The Fund squad was a little lack and the wait staff was having a bad week, but the cruise was awesome anyway.

This was our first but will definitely be booking again!

It is what it is!

Jul 8th, 2024

This cruise has its target audiences and they love it. And I love that they have this venue to have a wonderful time. If you are looking for relaxation and quiet classiness, this is not your venue. Many fights broke out on board, uniformed security was plentiful. Any cruise is better than no cruise though. Bimini was a delight. It's a booze cruise.

Amazing Caribbean Cruise

I would give this cruise a 10/10. From the entertainment to the food to all of the guest everything was amazing. I would definitely recommend doing 5 days that way you will get to see everything and not feel rushed.

Large Group

Enjoyed the cruise as a whole

I probably would not chose this boat again. I think we paid more than it was worth. However, the staff were attentive, and we had no real issues while on board.

We had a great time

Jul 2nd, 2024

We really enjoyed our cruise. I wish they had more to do for teenagers. The food was good. Our room we really liked. The only things we didn't like was they don't have much for teenagers to do and the night before we left we got no sleep. The staff was so loud above our room doing the luggage and people on the ship were so loud and running down the halls.

** Pande & Hazel for President! **

The Elation is a smaller ship in Carnival's fleet but the experience ultimately comes down to those with which you share it. The professional and caring staff (Pande, Hazel & Cryssi) and programming made for a fun and super-easy vacation. Our family of six (ages 14 - 55 y/o) thoroughly enjoyed the week and we'd do it again on the Elation in a heartbeat.

Jun 19th, 2024

The entertainment was the best!! We took our son on the cruise for his high school graduation and Boy Scout Eagle achievement. We had a lot of fun, everyone was nice but we probably won’t book on the Elation again. Thats just a personal choice.

72 best cruise ship water parks and private islands for families

A nyone who’s ever cruised in the Caribbean or Mexico knows how hot a day at sea can get. With temperatures routinely hitting 80 degrees and above, being able to cool off onboard your ship is a must. And for families with young kids and tweens, nothing beats a cruise ship water park with water slides when it comes to keeping everyone happy and refreshed on days at sea.

The best cruise ship water parks for families and kids of all ages

Plenty of cruise ships have pools and water slides, but not all of them are a good fit for families with tweens or kids under 10 years old. Pools can get crowded, life guards may not be available, and water slides may be too scary or have height limits.

That’s not a problem with the following cruise ship water parks that have just what’s needed for all ages from toddlers to tweens to teens. From smaller water slides, wading pools, and tipping buckets to water cannons, surprise water spouts, and dancing fountains, here are the cruise ships with the best onboard water parks for every age group.

FAMILY CRUISE DEALS:   Kids cruise free: These 8 cruise lines let kids sail free

Important note:  With the exception of  Disney Cruise Line and select Royal Caribbean ships, which have dedicated pools and water play areas for littles in  swim diapers , kids on all other ships must be potty-trained to play in these cruise ship water parks.

Splashaway Bay Aqua Park and Category 6 water park on Royal Caribbean

Splashaway Bay aqua park from Royal Caribbean is an ideal cruise ship water park for tweens or kids under 10 who love to zip down water slides, splash through fountains, or get soaking wet beneath a massive tipping bucket. There’s also a Splashaway Bay area for little kids at Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas,  Perfect Day at CocoCay .

FIRST TIME:   How to make the most of your first cruise vacation

The main attraction at the  Splashaway Bay  water parks on Royal Caribbean ships are the colorful water slides, the number of which varies by cruise ship. Generally, you’ll find one or two larger slides for kids ages six and older (minimum height is 42 inches) and one small slide for the toddlers. For the big slide, the maximum weight is 300 pounds. There’s also a splash zone dubbed Baby Bay with ankle-high pools of water and an array of other water features (think water cannons, whirlpools, and a drench bucket) that allow youngsters in swim diapers.

For bigger thrills, look to the Category 6 water park on Royal Caribbean’s  Icon of the Seas . At 17,000 square feet, this is the biggest cruise ship water park in the world, and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Spread across two decks, Category 6 boasts a number of firsts at sea: the first open freefall slide, the first dueling mat race slides, the first family raft rides on a cruise ship, and last but not least, the tallest drop slide at sea. It’s a truly epic water park that’s most suited to daredevil tweens and teens.

Carnival waterworks on carnival cruise line.

Kids of all ages will be dazzled by the brightly colored  Carnival WaterWorks  water parks found on most Carnival Cruise Line ships. Though the space and design vary by ship, all of the Carnival ship water parks feature one or two water slides, a giant tipping bucket, and kiddie spray zones with fountains and water cannons that are perfect for younger kids.

WATER WORLDS: 14 best indoor water park resorts in the U.S.

Most ships have either straight or curling slides, but Carnival Vista offers up the  Kaleid-O-Slide . This water slide, geared toward the seven-and-up crowd, takes riders on mats down a 455-foot-long series of twists and turns while zooming through flashing kaleidoscopic lights and visual effects.

Even younger kids will appreciate the Dr. Seuss-themed WaterWorks and spray zone on Carnival Horizon, which includes a massive water-tipping top-hat and two water slides. Some of Carnival’s ships also have racing slides that offer side by side thrills for older kids and adults.

Forest Aquaventure Park, AquaPlay, Polar Park, Aurora Borealis Aquapark, and Ocean Cay Aquapark on MSC Cruises

One of the largest water parks for young kids at sea, the  Forest Aquaventure Park and AquaPlay area  on MSC Cruises offer a full range of amusements for kids, tweens, teens, and water slide-loving adults. There are four slides, including two racing slides with clear sections that extend out over the side of the ship; an easy, open air spiral slide; and a funky slideboard option with neon lighting.

SUNSHINE STATE:   7 best Orlando water parks for families

For the smaller kids under 10, there’s a large shallow pool with fountains to play under, mini slides to give the kiddos a thrill, spray nozzles for getting mom and dad wet, and a giant tipping bucket. Above it all is an enclosed suspension bridge that might look scary and like a challenge to some of the younger kids, but is as safe as can be.

MSC’s Polar AquaPark, found on MSC Meraviglia and MSC Bellissima, isn’t nearly as toddler-friendly as Forest Aquaventure, which is a good thing for families with older kids and tweens. The water slides here are decidedly teen- and adult-sized, as is the rope bridge. There’s a smallish water slide in the splash zone, and kids under 10 will get a kick out of trying to figure out which is the next tipping bucket to go over (there are lots of them). There are also a few sprayers and a fountain wall for kids to run through.

And the MSC World Europa has an impressive VR-enhanced water park called the  Aurora Borealis AquaPark , which is geared more toward teens and adults than little kids. While it does have a toddler-only pool, the overall experience is best suited to bigger kids. The reef-themed Ocean Cay AquaPark can be found on MSC Euribia. MSC Virtuosa serves up thrills for kids big and small at its Savannah Aquapark, with four waterslides, including one kamikaze-style slide for younger children.

Reef Splash Zone on Princess Cruises

Thanks to its stellar  Reef Splash Zone , the top cruise ship for families on Princess Cruises is Caribbean Princess. One of the best cruise ship water parks for the entire family, Reef Splash Zone features a kid-friendly pool and hot tub, a lounge area with plush seating, and a bar serving up delicious mocktails for the kids.

TYPHOON LAGOON VS. BLIZZARD BEACH:   Guide to the Disney water parks in Orlando

The water park fun centers around Winnie the Whale, with water spraying from her spout and raining from her fluke. Inside her mouth is a pint-sized slide for children under 10. Assorted water sprays are located around Winnie the Whale. (Pro tip: Never turn your back on a tween with their hand on a spray gun.)

When everyone’s had enough of the water, you’ll also find oversized backyard games including cornhole scattered around this cruise ship water park.

Nemo’s Reef, Toy Story Splash Zone, AquaLab, and AquaDuck and AquaMouse Water Coasters on Disney Cruise Line

Limited to the eight and under set, the 1,500-square-foot  Nemo’s Reef  on  Disney Cruise Line ships is filled with  Finding Nemo  characters, countless fountains, pop jets, and spray nozzles. There’s also a toddler-sized water slide with a slip-n-slide feel that will have young kids going back again and again. And, unlike on most other cruise ships, toddlers in swim diapers are welcome to play here.

KID-FRIENDLY CRUISES:   7 best cruise lines for families (and their most kid-friendly ships)

For the tweens and kids eight years old and up, the  AquaDuck water coaster  stretches more than 750 feet, and a parent can ride together with their child on a two-person raft that goes up and down and out over the side of the ship.

In fact, each of Disney’s cruise ships has at least one water play area for younger kids. You’ll find a sprawling water playground called  AquaLab  themed around Donald Duck’s mischievous nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie on the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, and Disney Fantasy. On the Disney Wish, a very basic splash area called The Toy Story Splash Zone is geared toward toddlers age three and under, while the  AquaMouse  water slide—for kids (and adults) seven and older—is Disney’s first theme park-like attraction at sea.

Kids Aqua Park on Norwegian Cruise Line

All of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway, Breakaway-Plus, and Prima class ships have a  Kids’ Aqua Park  play area. The water parks for kids on Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Joy, and Norwegian Encore have the most to offer, including a large tipping bucket, mesh climbing structures, water cannons you can aim from above, and an exciting kid-sized slide.

The water parks for young kids on Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway are less impressive, with just a wading pool, two very tiny slides, and a handful of splash elements. The same can be said for the kids water play area on the Norwegian Prima.

Which cruise lines have private island water parks?

Several of the most family-friendly cruise lines have their own private islands where you’ll find water parks and splash areas of varying complexity.

Royal Caribbean’s  Perfect Day at CocoCay  is a massive water-themed playground of an island sure to dazzle both adults and kids. Among the offerings: Thrill Waterpark with its two towers and 13 slides, plus the Caribbean’s largest wave pool and an obstacle course pool. Perfect Day at CocoCay is also home to the Caribbean’s largest freshwater pool, Oasis Lagoon, which has coves, a swim-up bar, private cabanas, swim-up islands with in-water loungers, and a kid-friendly beach entry.

Disney’s  Castaway Cay  has plenty of water fun to offer as well. You can snorkel, swim with stingrays, zip down water slides in the water park area (perfect for bigger kids and tweens), and even run a 5K. Disney’s other private paradise,  Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , is more authentically Bahamian with just a little bit of Disney sprinkled on top. Younger kids will enjoy its Rush Out Gush Out water play area.

Both Carnival and Holland America visit the 2,400-acre  Half Moon Cay  in The Bahamas. As with Perfect Day at CocoCay and Castaway Cay, there’s a kid’s water park area here as well. Families can also go horseback riding on the beach and swing with stingrays. Norwegian Cruise Line’s Harvest Caye in Belize invites kids to cool off at a small water park, with a water slide, giant tipping bucket, sprinklers, and other splash pad-style features.  Great Stirrup Cay , another one of the company’s private islands, does not have a water park.

Note that not all sailings from these lines stop at their private islands, so if this experience is of interest, be sure to check the itinerary before booking.
