Why book with Not Out Travel for the England Cricket Tour of the West Indies 2023?

Hear from our Tour Manager Des Newton

As you step down from the plane in the West Indies there to meet you will be the familiar faces of the reps from Not Out Travel to welcome you.

Having left behind the cold grey skies of Mother England the feeling of the true holiday spirit is overwhelming. Dreams of sunny days, warm nights, warm seas, sandy beaches and light breezes playing with the palm trees as the lacey waves rush to the shore all come to life. It’s like living a dream.

The good folk from the islands make one very welcome. The steel bands light up the nights. Your feet tap to the infectious beat. You easily find yourself dancing.

The atmosphere at the cricket is electric. It is here that the vibe is truly calypso. The food stalls sell a variety of indigenous food, and the beer is good too. It was at the Viv Richards Stadium when much of the play was interrupted by rain that the “Man of the Match” was awarded to the Disk Jockey for entertaining us with his music!

The hotels have an air about them offering a glimpse of paradise. Most have beach access and swimming pools in beautiful surroundings. It is always warm and wonderful.

The islands of Antigua, Barbados, Grenada {Spice Island}, and Trinidad each have their own unique beauty with the unmistaken sound of reggae music not far away.

The Not Out Travel itinerary looks wonderful both for cricket and sightseeing or just sun tanning on the beach or at the pool. One returns home with a glow in one’s heart and a smile on one’s face. Refreshed. It is, plainly speaking, a tour not to be missed.

See you there for a rum punch or two.

West Indies v England men, ODI series 2023: All you need to know

Dates, start times, venues, TV and streaming information, team news, form, weather forecasts, betting odds and more ahead of the three-match series

hopebuttler021201-min

What is it?

West Indies host England in a three-match ODI series.

What is the schedule?

December 3: First ODI- Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua (1:30pm BST/ 9:00am local time)

December 6: Second  ODI-  Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua (5:30pm BST/ 1:30pm local time )

December 9: Third ODI- Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados (5:30pm BST/ 1:30pm local time)

Who is in form?

Just three weeks and a day on from signing off their dreadful Cricket World Cup title defence, England will step back on the international treadmill in the West Indies.

Ultimately, the hope is that Jos Buttler's side are at the start of a successful four-year cycle towards the next tournament in South Africa in 2027.

But the reality is, with this tour - which includes five T20Is - so close to the debacle in India and a refreshed group selected, expectations perhaps need to be tempered. Indeed, of all the white-ball series between now and four years time, this is arguably the most inconsequential.

What the West Indies would have done for the chance to leave a mark on the Cricket World Cup, the first staged in their absence having been ever-presents in each of the 12 previous tournaments.

There is a freshness to the playing group - Sherfane Rutherford and Matthew Forde are the standout additions for the series - though there is a familiar layer of gloom around selection.

Shane Dowrich was rewarded for impressive domestic form with a recall, only to retire from international cricket on the eve of the series; Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder have made themselves unavailable for selection; and Darren Bravo is taking a break from the game after he was overlooked.

Understandably, activity since being unsuccessful in reaching the 50-over World Cup in Zimbabwe has been limited. The white-ball leg of the visit of India across July and August was encouraging, winning the second ODI in Barbados and edging the T20I series 3-2.

And courtesy of the Super50 Cup, won by a Trinidad and Tobago side containing Kjorn Ottley and Yannic Cariah, much of the squad brings in a healthy diet of one-day cricket into the series, giving them every chance of catching the tourists cold.

Who is involved?

Only six players have been retained from England's ODI World Cup.

Hampshire quick John Turner is in line to claim his first England cap - he dropped out of the T20I series against New Zealand through injury - having impressed in the Blast.

Josh Tongue was also bidding for his first ODI outing after enjoying a breakthrough summer but has been forced to withdraw due to injury.

Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Mark Wood have been rested ahead of January's Test series in India, while Test captain Ben Stokes has undergone an operation on a long-term knee injury.

Dawid Malan has been cut from both formats of the tour, whilst Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali have been omitted from the ODI squad.

Ollie Pope could make his England white-ball debut having played 39 Tests.

Though leading run-scorer Bravo and wicket-taker Sunil Narine (retired) have been overlooked, the Windies have selected a squad largely drawn from those who impressed in the recent Super50 Cup.

Kjorn Ottley (317 runs at 45.28) returns, the uncapped Sherfane Rutherford (278 at 46.33) is selected and there are places for leg-spinner Yannic Cariah (18 wickets at 15.66) and Roston Chase.

Dowrich's decision to withdraw and call time on his international career will see Shai Hope combine the responsibility of being captain and wicketkeeper, with Pooran also unavailable.

Fast-bowler Alzarri Joseph has been named as vice-captain.

Rovman Powell, Dominic Drakes, Kyle Mayers, who are all playing T10 League cricket, and Jayden Seales miss out from the India squad.

West Indies squad:  Shai Hope (c), Alzarri Joseph, Alick Athanaze, Yannic Cariah, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Kjorn Ottley, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Oshane Thomas

England squad:  Jos Buttler (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Phil Salt, John Turner

turnerj021201-min

What is the weather forecast?

For the first ODI in Antigua, the series is set to commence on a clear and sunny afternoon with temperatures being estimated at 24 degrees throughout the day.

The build-up to the second ODI will see hot temperatures accompanied by heavy rain which may see a delayed start. Thereafter, the weather is expected to clear up with temperatures around 26 degrees.

A similar pattern follows for the start of the third ODI as heavy thunderstorms are predicted in the days before the concluding match. But conditions should improve, with the game likely to be played in 26 degrees at the Kensington Oval.

What are the odds?

Paddy Power has England as outright favourites in the opening encounter at 3/10 while West Indies can be found at 12/5.

Where to watch?

TNT Sports will broadcast every match from England's tour of the West Indies in the United Kingdom. Fans can stream footage using the service via the Discovery+ app.

Talksport 2 will provide ball-by-ball commentary throughout both series.

Followers based in the Caribbean can follow the action via Flow Sports, RUSH Sports and Sportsmax.

Ex-TT Cricket Board treasurer's appeal hearing adjourned

Wed, May 8, '24

Trinidad & Tobago

KISWAH Chaitoo’s appeal against his February 28 removal as TT Cricket Board (TTCB) treasurer has been adjourned to allow the board’s attorneys to file further written submissions, in response to Chaitoo’s.

This was confirmed by Chaitoo’s legal team Dinesh Rambally and Stefan Ramkissoon on Tuesday, after his appeal hearing by the TTCB’s Supreme Appellate Committee at the National Cricket Centre in Couva.

Rambally and Ramkissoon were ready to proceed but committee chairman Justice Prakash Moosai said the board’s attorneys needed to respond in writing, to the previous submissions made by Chaitoo.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the committee said there were some “interesting” and “pertinent” points raised in Chaitoo’s earlier submissions, and the matter could only go on when the board responds in writing.

The TTCB, guided by attorneys Navindra Ramnanan and Henry Chase, was given a May 27 deadline to file their submissions. Chaitoo’s legal team was also given a June 10 deadline to file their final submissions, in response to the submissions presented by TTCB.

BCA clears air amidst rumours of planned industrial action and mistreatment of President Dame Sandra

Barbados

Chief executive officer (CEO) of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), Dr Roland Toppin has denied reports of planned industrial action by employees leading up to or during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

His comments have come following messages being circulated on Whatsapp over the weekend, where it suggested that industrial action was being planned by employees at the BCA in response to questionable decisions made by one of its managers in relation to the World Cup.

However, in a statement which was issued today by Dr Toppin, he staunchly denied the accusations.

“It has been brought to our attention that a text message is being widely circulated via the WhatsApp medium in which it is alleged, inter alia, that there is impending industrial action being contemplated by the members of staff of the BCA, and it is the BCA’s intention to treat the President of the Republic of Barbados, Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason, her son and guests in a disrespectful manner during the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June of this year.

Getting the best out of WI for T20 World Cup

Tue, May 7, '24

Commentary

Daren Sammy led the West Indies team in 2012 and 2016 to championship victories in the ICC T20 World Cup competitions. Those were fantastic achievements. However, captaincy and coaching are two different aspects in the same sport.

The captain is on the field and controls the running of the game for his team and at all times must be aware of where his opportunities lie in order to grab the advantage over his opponent.

In the game of cricket especially, where there are four basic formats – whether it’s a Test match of five days or a first-class game of three or four days, a single innings of 50 overs per team or 20 overs per side – there would be various approaches.

Hence, several strategies to adopt in order to win– all happening on the field of play while the game is in progress, when thinking has to be constant and tactics change readily. It’s not an easy task.

At present, Sammy is the coach, therefore, no longer being in the middle of the action on the field of play. His role as coach involved the planning stage before a game begins, observing the play as it unfolds so that advice could be rendered at a suitable interval to gain an advantage. This part is tricky because it could interfere with the playing activity in progress and the on-field change of plans of the captain.

The point that I’m making here is the frustration a coach can encounter while watching from the sidelines, plus the emotional control he needs to be able to master the technique. A game being observed from off the field can be at odds with what is taking place on it.

Matthews to be named World Cup ambassador

WI World Cup

West Indies Women’s captain and wonder woman Hayley Matthews is set to be unveiled as one of the tournament ambassadors for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be played in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.

The talismanic all-rounder, among the best players in the world, recently demonstrated her prowess in the eight-match rubber in Pakistan – winning the Player of the Series in both the One-Day Internationals and T20 Internationals.

During the ODIs Matthews became just the second West Indian to reach 2000 runs and 100 wickets, behind the legendary Stafanie Taylor.

In her role, Matthews, who was named Wisden’s Leading T20 Cricketer of 2023 last month, is expected to make appearances and also to be featured on social media posts promoting the marquee event before she leaves in early June for a series in Sri Lanka.

Other ambassadors who have been visible so far include Usain Bolt, the Olympics track and field legend, and Chris Gayle, the greatest T20 batter and two-time T20 World Cup winner.

Meanwhile, Matthews will be gearing up to lead the West Indies Women at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup which will be played in Bangladesh in October. She was one of the heroines of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2016 triumph against Australia in the final at Kolkata, India, and will want to repeat that feat when they play in Dhaka.

North Zone Cricket Council backs ex-TTCB treasurer: Not Chaitoo's fault

Mon, May 6, '24

THE North Zone Cricket Council has criticised the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) for blaming former treasurer Kiswah Chaitoo as the reason why sponsors have stopped sponsoring youth cricket tournaments.

Chaitoo made it known last December that $500,000 was allegedly misused in the TTCB. The funds were inappropriately used over a five-year period, leading to an employee resigning.

Chaitoo decided to report the matter to the Fraud Squad and as a result was voted out at a special general meeting in February. Chaitoo said he wanted to protect his name and do the right thing.

A letter was sent from the North Zone Cricket Council on April 30, addressed to president of the TTCB Azim Bassarath.

The letter said, “you (Bassarath) shamelessly and falsely accused the duly elected treasurer of the TTCB Kiswah Chaitoo, a respected and qualified accountant, of causing sponsors to withdraw their sponsorship from the TTCB for youth cricket.”

The executive of the TTCB wanted Chaitoo to keep the matter out of the public. The TTCB defended the vote to have Chaitoo removed, saying it stemmed from his role in “leaking TTCB internal affairs into the public domain, without necessary approval.”

England fans face minimum five-year wait for West Indies Test tour

  • Draft tours programme seen by the Guardian
  • No Test tour would be huge financial blow for region

England are poised to deliver a crushing blow to West Indies cricket and their own travelling supporters with no men’s Test tour of the Caribbean scheduled for at least the next five years.

According to a draft of the future tours programme for the period May 2023 to February 2027 – seen by the Guardian and due to be finalised at the ICC’s AGM in Birmingham this month – the England men’s team are scheduled to play just eight white-ball fixtures in the Caribbean during this time.

These come in a single tour early in the cycle – straight after the 50-over World Cup in India next year and thus likely to involve a weakened squad – with England’s only other visit thereafter being the T20 World Cup in 2024. It leaves a minimum five-year gap between Test tours of the Caribbean for England after their 1-0 series defeat in March .

This is likely to dismay the hordes of England supporters who flock to the region for the trip of a lifetime – around 10,000 were present in Barbados this year, with about 3,000 for the Tests in Antigua and Grenada – and the financial knock-on effect to Cricket West Indies will be significant.

England Test tours are worth at least $10m (£8.4m) to CWI (nearly double when combined with limited‑overs cricket). There is also a larger impact, with recent visits to have featured both Test and white‑ball cricket estimated to have been worth up to $100m to the region’s economy.

While bilateral internationals can be loss-makers for West Indies, England tours remain a significant revenue source for CWI in a global cricket economy that is skewed heavily against such a high-cost, low-income part of the world. West Indies have more than proved their strength as opponents too, with England registering just one Test series win in the Caribbean since 1968.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has pointed to a World Test Championship draw that was out of its control. But given its seat at the ICC top table, three non-WTC series versus New Zealand since 2019 (including one next winter) and seven fewer England men’s Tests than their 49 during the last cycle, it still appears a cold-shouldering of CWI after good relations in recent times.

West Indies sent men’s and women’s teams to the UK during the height of the pandemic in 2020, helping to prevent the ECB from suffering catastrophic losses. Though this led to an expansion of England’s return visit earlier this year – a two-Test series became three and three T20s became five – these favours were not exactly equal.

The next instalment of the future tours programme is one in which England, India and Australia look generally to maximise their lucrative encounters – all three nations play five-match Test series home and away against each other – but squeezes bilateral international cricket and boasts annual ICC tournaments.

A two-and-a-half-month window has been carved out for the expanded Indian Premier League and other boards are also looking to free up space so big-name players can feature in their franchise tournaments, including the Big Bash League and the Hundred. The Ashes in England next year, for example, will be over by the end of July.

England’s overseas men’s Test tours during this period include a five-match series in India in early 2024, three apiece in New Zealand and Pakistan later that year, a five-match away Ashes series in 2025-26, and three Tests in South Africa in 2026-27. The sole Test series against West Indies is three matches scheduled for the 2024 home summer.

AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TOUR TO THE WEST INDIES - TOUR PROGRAM

** THIS TOUR IS NOW JUNE - JULY 2025 CLICK HERE FOR WEST INDIES 2025 **

When preparing an Australian Cricket Tour to the West Indies our fingers are always crossed to play in Antigua and Barbados, but what we want is rarely what we get. Australia last played Test Cricket in Antigua 2008 and Barbados 2012 so it is time we returned. If only we had an influence on fixturing!

There has always been correlation between where we play and how many people tour. If we don’t play in Cape Town, or Kolkata, or Galle, or Barbados for example then fewer people tour. #Fact

“Dear West Indies Cricket,

If you invite Australia to play test cricket in Antigua, Barbados, and St Lucia in 2023 you will see 1000+ Australians visit each island. If you invite Australia to play in Guyana, Trinidad, and Jamaica, you won't.

We hope to see you in our thousands in 2023.

Australian Cricket Tours.”

Not knowing where we play until 6 months or less before the first ball doesn’t help, but we've created a 3-Test tour program to showcase our favourite Caribbean for you. Our tour is presented so you know what to expect when you choose to join us in the wonderful West Indies.

No matter where play, we want you to receive excellent value for your time with us and will do our best for you with the cricket fixture we are given.

Indian Premier League (IPL)  runs until the end of May 2023, so our program is focussed on touring the islands from June 1 – July 10 for 3 Test Matches. The first test in Dominica 2015 started on June 3 so we are maintaining the same match dates and the same starting island; St Maarten / St Martin (SXM), the world’s smallest shared land mass

Australian Cricket Tour To The West Indies 2023

Easy to reach with dozens of daily direct flights from USA to suit all airline frequent flyers, and plenty of flights for those that aren’t, we will be in this tiny half-French/half-Dutch hamlet from June 1.

Your 4-night SXM Tour starts on June 2 but you’re welcome to kick start one day early and get some early plane spotting done on famous Maho Beach. Even the most hardened plane-haters thrill to standing under inbound aircraft swooping as close as 10m above you.

With drinks included at our resort you may not want to leave, but we never go to SXM without cruising to our ever-favourite Prickly Pear on Anguilla. If you want a break from our included dinner, a night at the BBQ shacks of Grand Case is always good.

Jumping on a bongo bus to the Dutch Capital of Phillipsburg for incredibly affordable duty-free won’t disappoint nor will the vast promenade on Great Bay. 4 nights in SXM is never enough but leave we must for the first test in Antigua.

June 6 - 14

1st Test:  Antigua, June 8 - 12, 2023

Your flight to Antigua is included so you only need to get up on time and let our friendly SXM taxi driver Lorraine shuttle you to the airport in time for the short hop to St John’s.

The world’s coolest bus driver known to us, ‘Big Earl’ will drive us from VC Bird International Airport to the all-inclusive Starfish Jolly Beach Resort on the south west coast, close to English & Falmouth Harbours. Big Earl will drive us to/from Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium each day, so you don’t have to worry about that unless you sleep in after too much rum-punch at sunset after play.

Speaking of sunsets, the best in Antigua are seen from Shirley Heights where half the nation ascends on Sunday to celebrate the end of another week or the local will be a West Indies victory. Win or lose, we will go to the Heights anyway but if we have an extra day if the game ends early, we will sail to Barbuda.

Otherwise, on Day 6 we can see Barbuda in the distabce as we cruise on our catamaran adventure around the island. This great day trip is a perfect way to end 8 nights in Awesome Antigua, before doing it again in Beautiful Barbados.

June 14 - 22

2nd Test: Barbados,   June 16 - 21, 2023

Big Earl will take us back to the VC Bird for our included flight to the largest and arguably most popular island of the Eastern Caribbean. Rooster, a big cool Bajan, will meet us at Grantley Adams and deliver us safely to St Lawrence Gap on the south coast, the Caribbean’s most dynamic ‘strip’.

Hotels, restaurants, guesthouses, bars, resorts, clubs, street food, cafes, Dover Beach and most perfectly positioned Church in all of Christendom awaits you in this outstanding south coast village. With so many choices for post-play social intercourse, something you don’t have in Antigua, living ‘all-inclusive’ in St Lawrence would be wasted.

In years past we have stayed in 3 neighbouring hotels in ‘the Gap’, which doesn’t mean we will in 2023. Staying in hotels next door to each other is no different than being in opposing ‘wings’ in a massive resort, but it will come to availability.

While we work on that, Rooster will take us to and from famous Kensington Oval each day. We hope to have 5-days at ‘The Oval’ but if the game ends early we will take a leisurely drive around the island ticking the box on a few favourite rum shacks.

The day after play, we have an all-inclusive sunset sail along the west coast before lobbing over to vibrant St Vincent for 5 days in the Grenadines before out much-wanted 3 rd Test in St Lucia.

June 22 - 27

Rooster will drive us to Grantley Adams for the non-stop-hop to the new Argyle International Airport on St Vincent’s east coast. We last toured St Vincent in 2012 for 2 ODI’s at Arnos Vale, but 6 nights was not enough and left us longing to return. Now we can.

Our friends Kim and Earl offer an unique airport transfer by boat along the south coast to our beach front hotel for 5 nights in the pristine Grenadines. Spare days can be exploring the ‘city of arches’ or Fort St Charlotte, but a primary purpose for many visitors are Pirates of the Caribbean film locations.

One day we will rocket to the far south of this 32 island archipelago nation for an afternoon at Sparrow’s Beach Club on Union Island. Snorkelling, swimming, or simply sunning on the whitest of white sand beaches (as seen in the films), on which we have a BBQ seafood lunch.

Bottomless rum-punch for the ride home will make you thankful that tomorrow is a day spent on the beach before doing ‘Pirates’ again the following day, though this time to the north.

5 smooth nights later, we’ll be zipped back across the waters to Argyle for the 30 mins flight north to Castries and much wanted 3 rd Test at Beausejour.

June 27 – July 5

2nd Test:  St Lucia, June 29 - July 3, 2023

Landing in the better of St Lucia’s two international airports, when arriving into George Charles Airport the views of the capital, Castries, just 11km south of Darren Sammy Cricket Ground , from the right-hand side are spectacular.

We have 8 nights in a luscious all-inclusive resort on Reduit Beach on at very popular Rodney Bay. Only 4km from the cricket, we will shuttle you to and from the game making St Lucia as deservedly relaxing as possible.

On Day 6 a catamaran will pick us up on Reduit beach and sail to St Lucia’s postcard geographic wonders and national symbol, the Pitons. Stopping in the French village of Soufriere for ‘refreshment’, we lunch on Anse Chastanet and swim the afternoon away before another sunset sail home.

If the game ends early you can (as on any other island) tee-up on spectacular Sandals Country Club north of Rodney Bay. We will otherwise have an optional day trip through the island. If you are not joining us in St Kitts and flying home from St Lucia, you may fly from Hewanorra Airport in the far south.

The 65km drive from Rodney Bay is firstly at your expense, but secondly allow time to stop along the way. There is a lot more spectacular West Indian scenery and views to enjoy before you leave for what could be another 5 or more years!

July 5 - 10

One of our preferred ‘little’ islands to play Cricket, perfectly positioned between lovable St Maarten and awesome Antigua, any cricket scheduled here is a blessing. Warner Park is in the city (town!) of Basseterre is just 5km from our favoured resort, the only hotel on Frigate Bay, which is two bays on opposing sides of the isthmus. You won't arrive at the wrong one, as we you be transferred on arrival.

We live and survive and on the Caribbean side, on the ‘strip’, which is the epi-centre of St Kittitian entertainment. Beach bars, restaurants, grills, music, flame torches, and lots of sand is where we kick back after the Test Series for 4 nights, and a round island road and rail trip! The Eastern Caribbean’s only railway will be part of the journey to Brimstone Hill Fortress and the black sand beach of Dieppe.

It wouldn’t be an island trip without including a day on a catamaran also. We will sail south to the St Kitt’s stunning sister isle of Nevis for lunch before sailing north for sunset off Brimstone Hill.

We would love to play Test cricket here in 2023 (and always) and maybe we will be surprised, as we were with Dominica in 2012 and 2015. It’s a gorgeous little island where in 1995 we met the Australian Cricket Team. We were invited to their hotel manager’s rum-punch party and the rest, as we say, is why we are helping you enjoy Australian Cricket Tours to the West Indies and beyond today!

Waving goodbye from the islands, on July 10 we go to England for the Ashes! Are you coming?

Ravi Shastri’s bold prediction

Impressive t20i stats of the duo picked by shastri.

Ravi Shastri , the former head coach, has singled out two debutants as crucial to India’s aspirations in the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 . The tournament is scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) in June. Both players have secured spots in India’s 15-member squad for the competition. Shastri has emphasised their potential to make a significant impact on the team’s performance.

Shastri selected Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal as pivotal to the Men in Blue’s aspirations for clinching the T20 World Cup 2024.

“The two gentlemen you’ve got to watch out for, and both are left-handers, both playing their first World Cup,” Shastri said on Instagram.

“One is Jaiswal. We know a lot about him, he did extremely well against England, explosive at the top of the order, left-hander, he’s young, he’s fearless and he’ll play shots.”

“But there’s someone in the middle order, please watch out for [him], because he is explosive, he’s devastating and he’s a match-winner. He hits sixes for fun, and when it comes to spin bowling, he can kill you,” he added.

Jaiswal is a rising star in Indian cricket. Making his T20I debut in 2023, he has featured in 17 matches, amassing 502 runs at an impressive average of 34, coupled with a striking strike rate of 162. Notably, he has crafted one century and four half-centuries for the Indian team.

Shivam also represented India, entering the scene in 2019. He showcased his prowess across 21 T20I matches, accumulating 276 runs over 14 innings, maintaining a notable average of 40 and a dynamic strike rate of 140. Moreover, he made valuable contributions with the ball, securing 8 wickets for the Indian team.

The South Africa captain and opening batter makes it to the Player of the Month nominations list yet again.

She showcased her exceptional form with the bat in white-ball series against Sri Lanka. In April, Wolvaardt featured in one T20I and three ICC Women’s Championship ODIs, making runs in each of those games.

The 100% Cricket Superstar made a 47-ball 56 in the final T20I against Sri Lanka, the highest score in the game by a South Africa batter. In the three-match ODI series that followed, she took her game to another level by accumulating 335 runs at an average of 335.

During the ODI series opener in East London, which ended in a no-result due to rain, the Proteas opener played a composed knock, scoring 41 in the first innings. Her contribution helped her side reach 270/6 before the match was washed out at the beginning of the second innings.

In the second game in Kimberley, she played a Player of the Match innings with her sensational unbeaten 110 from 141 balls while chasing. Her match-winning knock featured four boundaries.

She unleashed her best in the final ODI, by notching up another century. Despite ending on the losing side, Wolvaardt's unbeaten 184 off 147 balls set a new record for the highest individual ODI score by a South African woman. This feat surpassed former right-handed batter Johmari Logtenberg's record of 153* against the Netherlands in 2007, which stood for almost 17 years.

Wolvaardt’s stunning knock was studded with 23 fours and four sixes.

Hayley Matthews (West Indies)

451 runs and 12 wickets in six matches

Hayley Matthews - ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year | ICC Awards 2023

The West Indies captain and star all-rounder has been an unstoppable force for her side lately. In April, Matthews made three appearances in T20Is and as many in ODIs against Pakistan.

In that period, the ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year for 2023, made 325 runs at an impressive average of 162.5 to go with her six wickets in the ICC Women’s Championship ODI series. In the T20I leg, she scored 126 runs at an average of 42 and claimed six wickets.

She also won four Player of the Match awards, two each in the ODI and T20I series, while also taking home the Player of the Series in ODIs.

In the ODI series opener, she made a scintillating 140* from 150 balls, consisting of 15 fours and a six. She then led the charge with the ball, returning 3/17 from her six overs as West Indies sealed a big 113-run victory over Pakistan.

In the second ODI, she took one wicket and contributed with 44 runs as the Windies cruised to a thrilling two-wicket win on the last ball. Matthews made a stronger in the final ODI with a solid knock of 141 from 149. Her batting brilliance in this game included 19 fours. She also made an impact with the ball with returns of 2/26 from eight overs.

In the T20Is that followed, she was dismissed for a rare duck in the opening fixture, however, she bowled an economic spell of 1/14 in her four overs. She made a brisk 58 in the second game and was also the star bowler of her side with returns of 3/25. In the final game, she made another half-century, making a 49-ball 68 and returning 2/22 with the ball.

The ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2023 starred in Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa with match-winning performances including a blazing 195* in a record chase in the final ODI. In April, the Sri Lanka skipper and batting stalwart featured in three T20Is and as many ODIs.

She shone with the bat in the final T20I against South Africa in East London with a quick 46-ball 73, guiding her side to a series-winning triumph. This was Sri Lanka Women’s first-ever T20I series win over South Africa.

In the three ICC Women’s Championship ODIs that followed, Athapaththu made 12* in the opening game before it was washed out due to rain while in the second match, she contributed with 51.

However, it was during the final ODI of the series that Athapaththu unleashed her best, scoring an explosive 195* in a successful chase of 302. Her batting brilliance not only helped Sri Lanka achieve a record for the highest successful run-chase in Women’s ODIs but also made her the third-highest individual scorer in Women’s ODIs and the highest in a chase.

In the same game, her counterpart, South Africa skipper Wolvaardt, also achieved a century. However, Athapaththu's extraordinary performance, comprising a 139-ball knock with 26 fours and five sixes, overshadowed Wolvaardt's century.

Athapaththu also rose to the top of the ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings. In April, Athpathuthu played two group games of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024. She scored 16 against Thailand and an unbeaten 59 against Scotland.
