The AirPower History Tour's mission is to educate, inspire, and honor past, current, and future generations of Americans. CAF aircraft tour the country showcasing American military and aviation history, educating the public, and honoring those who built, flew, and maintained these amazing aircraft. Airpower Tour stops provide up-close opportunities to see, hear, explore, and learn about historical aircraft, their crews, and significance in addition to definitive moments in American history. Our flight experiences offer once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to experience these aircraft and allows the public the opportunity to sit in the same seats as the men and women who flew, fought, built, and sacrificed for freedom. Our squadron needs volunteers to help us continue our mission touring the country and to keep our aircraft flying for the education and enjoyment of future generations of Americans.

B-29 Doc History Restored Tour to Land in Tucson, AZ

TUCSON, AZ., September 18, 2023 – B-29 Doc, one of only two B-29 Superfortress aircraft out of nearly 4,000 that were built during World War II and still airworthy and flying today, will bring its B-29 Doc History Restored Tour to Tucson, AZ, Sept. 27-Oct. 30. B-29 Doc will arrive at Tucson International Airport on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and will be available for ground and cockpit tours beginning Wednesday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 1. Doc will be hosted by Atlantic Aviation while in Tucson. B-29 Doc Flight Experience Rides will be available Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. both days. Doc’s annual tour mission includes an average of 100 flight hours, beginning in early April and spanning through the summer until late October. Tour stops include ground and flight deck tours, as well as B-29 Doc Flight Experiences. The B-29 Doc Flight Experience will last approximately 90 minutes and include a 30-minute ride. Prior to takeoff, passengers will experience a crew briefing and learn more about the history of the B-29 and the role it played in U.S. history. Passengers will also get to hear and see the sights and sounds of engine starts and run-ups prior to takeoff.

Doc , one of only two World War II B-29 bombers still flying, will be based at the Museum May 19-22, 2022 for rides and ground tours. This will be the first time the Wichita-based Superfortress has been to The Museum of Flight. The visit is part of the B-29 Doc History Restored Tour.

Ground and Cockpit Tours Ground and cockpit tours are walk-up only and first-come, first-serve. No reservations.

Still considering tour plans for april-june, as well as august-september.

The July 2021 tour schedule for B-29 Doc has been announced and it includes stops in seven cities across six states, ending with Doc’s appearance at EAA AirVenture.

Each tour stop will feature B-29 Doc Flight Experiences rides, as well as ground tours and flight deck access. Exact details for Doc’s arrival at each tour stop, as well as times for ground tours and flight deck access, will be released prior to the events in each city.

Meanwhile, tickets for the B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides in the cities mentioned above are ON SALE NOW. 

“We are excited to announce our July tour plans for B-29 Doc and even more excited as we continue planning for all of 2021,” said Josh Wells, B-29 Doc general manager and executive director. “The July tour will bring Doc to six states, including a return trip to Cleveland, OH, where Tony Mazzolini, the mastermind behind Doc’s rescue and restoration, calls his home.”

Here’s the list of July 2021 stops for B-29 Doc:

• July 9-11: St. Louis, MO (Spirit of St. Louis Airport)
• July 12-15: Terre Haute, IN
• July 16-18: Cincinnati, OH (Lunken Air Field)
• July 19-21: Cleveland, OH (Burke Lakefront Airport)
• July 22-25: Kalamazoo, MI (Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Experience)
• July 26-August 1: EAA AirVenture (Oshkosh, WI with rides in Appleton, WI)

The B-29 Doc planning team continues to work on tour plans for April, May and June, as well as August through September.

“Right now, we’re optimistic about the air show industry’s ability to reopen and recover from COVID-19,” Wells continued. “We are actively working with air show planners and we will have more details in the coming weeks regarding Doc’s tour plans for the remainder of 2021. Our team continues to work through the final stages of our planned winter maintenance period at our hangar in Wichita and remains committed to carrying out Doc’s mission of honoring our nation’s heroes and past generations by taking our B-29 to air shows and tours for people to get an up-close and personal look at this magnificent machine.”

B-29 Doc to Launch 2023 Tour Season in March 

The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour will open the 2023 season with two stops in Arkansas. The 10 day tour will land in Fayetteville, AR and Texarkana, AR beginning March 16 through March 26. 

Both stops on the tour will include B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides, along with ground and cockpit tours of B-29 Doc, one of only two B-29 Superfortresses still airworthy and flying today. 

• March 16-19: Fayetteville, AR (Arkansas Air and Military Museum; Fayetteville Regional Airport) ● March 22-26: Texarkana, AR (Texarkana Regional Airport) 

“We’re excited to kickoff Doc’s seventh tour season in March in two cities that are known for their outstanding warbird hospitality,” said Josh Wells, B-29 Doc executive director. “The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour is committed to honoring the men and women who served our nation during World War II and give people an up-close and personal experience with a B-29 Superfortress. B-29 Doc will arrive at Fayetteville Regional Airport, Thursday, March 16, and will hosted by the Arkansas Air and Military Museum, March 17-20. Ground and flight deck tours will be available Friday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., following morning ride flight schedules both days.
