Marcie Rubenstein, Founder, Chief Organizer and Tour Leader of JWings

Marcie was born in Montreal, Canada and graduated from Concordia University, with a BA and MA in Political Science. She has worked in planning, finance and management and organized trips to Israel for Jewish Community associations in Ottawa and Montreal. Since her early twenty’s, Marcie has been designing group trip itineraries for friends and colleagues. Several years ago, she had the opportunity to take an intensive program in travel and tourism. She has worked at a travel agency, specializing in customized vacations to Asia, Europe and the Caribbean. Her most recent position has been as a tour coordinator for a national wine company. Marcie has developed and organized exclusive group tours to wineries in North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Along with planning winery visits and tour itineraries, she was responsible for arranging all travel logistics and accompanying the groups as the tour leader. She has now also become the official Sommelier for her friends and family!

Traveling has always been my passion and ‘beshert’! I have traveled to over 100 destinations and can’t wait to show you what I have seen. The opportunity to discover diverse cultures and traditions, explore the historical, natural and exotic wonders of the world, sample different cuisines and wines and meet fascinating people, are life’s ultimate experiences and education.

After traveling on several Jewish singles trips, I realized that I wanted to establish my own Jewish singles travel group. My experience in the travel industry, combined with the conviction that the most exciting and rewarding job in the world would be to plan and lead Jewish singles trips, has resulted in the launching of JWings.

JWings is a travel group for Jewish singles, between the ages of 35-ish and 55-ish. Membership Requirements: A love of travel, a thirst for adventure and the desire to meet other dynamic and fun Jewish singles.

JWings is busy planning Jewish singles trips to everywhere…but the Moon. Our tours will include visits to sites of Jewish interest and history. Whenever possible, we will also organize get-togethers with members of Jewish communities in our travel regions.

Winter, spring, summer, fall and any season in between, are all perfect times to take a Jewish singles group vacation.

It was so easy when we were ’20 something’ – we grabbed some friends, bought a train pass and an open-return plane ticket, threw some clothes into a backpack…and off we went. Now we are a little older, with more obligations and responsibilities and a lot less time to plan a trip. Our friends travel, but we can’t always coordinate our vacation plans and travelling solo can get pretty lonely. That is why a Jewish singles travel group like JWings, is so convenient and user-friendly. We take care of the planning. All you have to do is book your plane ticket and join a great group of other Jewish singles, on an adventure of a lifetime…Easy, fun, an opportunity to make new friends and have memories that will last forever.

Our luxury riverboat entered service during the spring of 2007 after a comprehensive two-year renovation. This elegant vessel is designed in classic decor with a slight Russian touch and accommodates just 100 passengers. It is the best choice for travelers seeking intimate cruise experience and personalized service. 50 staterooms are located over four decks and range from Standard Cabins to Deluxe Staterooms. On the upper 2 decks – Promenade and Sun, you will find spacious Junior Suites and luxurious forward looking Owner’s Suite, which has a private terrace and separate exit to the open deck. All cabins are equipped with private bathroom with shower, individually controlled air-conditioning and heating, direct dial telephone, satellite flat screen television and minibar. The lounge is a pleasant space for relaxation with large panoramic windows and bar area perfect for our lecture and entertainment programs. On the large, spacious Sun deck you will find comfortable deck furniture. There is also a library which features board games, an outside bar with comfortable deck furniture, a fitness center and sauna. Satellite Internet is available throughout the ship via the WiFi connection.

Your Dining

The single sitting dining room offers the best of traditional Glatt Kosher Russian cuisine and international choices, accompanied by complementary wine and soft drinks. Every day delightful buffet meals are served in the restaurant all under the auspices of Master Kosher Chef Malcolm Green.

On board there is also a luxurious lounge and bar where a pianist plays each evening and afternoon tea and evening snack buffet is served each day.

Russian Lapland 9 Days

The Kremlin and Red Square, the Hermitage Museum and Katrina Palace and more. And on the other hand, exciting adventures and experiences in the snow. Where?! in Karlia – Russian Lapland, a unique natural area with a thousand lakes, rivers, waterfalls and forests with a variety of exciting and unique attractions to the area. Come to hike, to ride, and to learn- to fish, to cook, to sled, and to dance. There is a memorable one-time experience waiting for you!

Monday: Moscow, Red Square, The Great Synagogue, Jewish Museum, Victory Park

We’ll fly to Moscow, founded in 1147, the city developed around the Kremlin and became the capital of the Russian kingdom in the 14th century. We will begin our visit to Moscow at one of the quintessential symbols of Moscow and, in fact, of Russia as a whole, Red Square. This square is surrounded by a number of important buildings.

The Kremlin and Lenin’s Mausoleum, Russia’s Historical Museum, the two largest shopping malls in Russia, the Gum and Gustini Debor, and St. Basil Church. We will continue to the Great Coral Synagogue, which first opened for prayer in 1906 and operated throughout the Soviet era. This synagogue was visited by the heads of state of Israel, Golda Meir in 1948 and Benjamin Netanyahu in 2006. We will continue our visit to the Jewish Museum in Moscow that presents the development of the Jewish community in Russia with modern and interesting technology. We will continue to visit the Poklonnayam Victory Park, which is a vast park commemorating the Soviets’ huge victory over the Nazis in World War II. We walk down central avenue in the park called the “Years of War”, see the vast obelisk at the center of it, visit the “Museum of the Great Patriotic War” which presents the course of the war and Russian heroism. We’ll see “The Arc of Victory.” We will continue to the Holocaust Memorial Synagogue established in the park in 1998.

Tuesday: Moscow - Petrozavodsk, Park Talviaika, reindeer sledding and snowmobile

In the morning we will go to the airport and take a short flight to Petrozavodsk. Upon landing, we will go to the hotel and receive rooms, light refreshments and also Arctic equipment suitable for winter activities and appropriate for the elements. The equipment includes a snowsuit, lined shoes and a face mask, and we’ll try on clothes and once dressed will visit The Talviaika Park.

We will warm up with tea and pastry and then visit the reindeer farm and learn the lifestyle and customs of the animals living in extreme conditions. We’ll take a short ride in a reindeer-littered sled as well as a snowmobile-led sledge… visit the Malmut and Musk dog pens and play in the snow and more.

Wednesday: Husky Sled, Hiking with snowshoes, Igloo construction, visiting an authentic local house

After breakfast, we’ll head to the husky dogs farm. After an introductory meeting with the dogs and a detailed briefing that includes a short ‘course’ in sled driving – we will set off on an exciting drive into the snowy wild forest. We will continue hiking with special snow sandals in the amazing winter nature.

We’ll also learn to build a snow house, an igloo, and feel like a real Eskimo. We’ll warm up with a hot drink in front of the fire and see a traditional local tent. After lunch, we will continue to visit an authentic local house on the edge of the frozen lake. We’ll walk on the thick ice sheet and warm up with local tea and pastries. Towards evening we will return to the hotel in Petrozavodsk for dinner.

Thursday: Kivach Falls, Mount Sampo, SungStone, MasterChef Workshop, Cyrillic FolkLore Show

After breakfast, we will take a walk in the Kivachs Reserve and enjoy the amazing beauty of the Krilli nature. We’ll see The Kivachs Waterfall, which sometimes freezes and stops at the height of winter. We will hike the reserve and see the unique tree to the area – Birch Krilly. We will also visit the local museum containing a collection of stuffed animals from the area.

We will continue to ascend to Mount Sampo, from which we will look at a spectacular view of the snowy treetops in the forest and hear about the ancient pagan custom of tying colorful ribbons to the branches of the trees on the mountain. After lunch, we will visit a factory for processing the shuglia stone – a unique medicinal stone for Karelia created by a meteor impact in the area.

Friday: Snowmobile riding, fishing in a frozen lake, shooting an arrow-shooting rifle

After breakfast, we will go to the park where we will have an introductory briefing about the snowmobiles. We’ll get basic skills in controlling the vessel and ride the snowmobile in intermittent pairs. Later in the day, we will do winter fishing – we will fish in a frozen lake using a special method through holes made in the ice.

We’ll also be sledding on inner tubes on the snow slopes. In the afternoon we will return to our hotel, prepare for Shabbat, and have prayers and dinner at the hotel. Note: Driving the snowmobile is contingent on maintaining a car driving license and travel insurance that includes extreme winter sports.

Saturday: Petrozavosdk

After prayer and Shabbat lunch, we will take a walking tour of the city’s promenade accompanied by the group’s escort. On Saturday night, we will enjoy a local hospitality folklore show that combines music,  unique instruments and authentic dances.

Sunday: Petrozavodsk-St. Petersburg, Citadel of Peter and Paul, Synagogue

After early breakfast, we’ll take a high-speed train ride from Petrozavodsk to St. Petersburg. We will arrive at midday and start with a panoramic tour of this beautiful city. We will visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, located on Zayachy island in the center of the Neva River, from which the city was founded as a ‘window into Europe’.

In the center of the citadel, Peter the Great is buried along with his heirs until the last of the Romanov dynasty. We will see the memorial to the victims of the Siege of World War II. We will also visit the local Choral Synagogue and hear about the history of the Jewish community in the city.

Monday: St.Petersburg, Hermitage Museum, Pushkin Town and Ekaterina Palace

In the morning we will visit the Hermitage – the largest museum in the world, established in the 18th century as the Winter Palace of the Tsars of Russia. Today it is a public museum that currently contains over 3 million works of art from all over the world and from all periods.

After touring the fascinating museum, we will continue to tour the city and see the Izakaki Cathedral, the Church of “the savior on spilled blood” with its colorful towers – one of the symbols of the city – where Tsar Alexander II was murdered in 1881, causing attacks on the Jews. From there we will go to the town of Pushkin where we will visit Ekaterina Tsarina Palace and also see the stunning amber room, which was restored after it was destroyed in World War II.

Tuesday: St. Petersburg- Back home

Our fascinating trip is completed. We will go to St.Petersburg airport and fly back home packed with exciting experiences that will accompany us for a long time to come.

There may be changes to the order of places visited. We will make every effort to visit every place mentioned in the itinerary. The tour organizers have no control over airline services such as seating, special meal requests, changes in departure times or delays. These remain the sole responsibility of the airline company.

Kashrut on Tours

Only strictly kosher food is provided to our travelers on all our tours. On some of our tours we are able to provide glatt meals. Kashrut is of utmost importance to us and we take special measures to ensure that everything served is kosher.

Breakfast is prepared using our utensils. We use local fresh fruits and vegetables, and we use milk products when they are permitted. We use kosher cereals, and bread. We usually serve hard boiled eggs and sometimes scrambled eggs or omelets. At breakfast, we prepare our lunches so that people have their choice as to what they eat for lunch. We bring food from Israel to supplement what is served in the hotel such as cheeses, peanut butter, tuna, etc. For dinners, we serve either fish or meat (usually chicken) as our main course. In areas where meat is not available nor readily acquired, we will have fish. When possible, we acquire the meat locally from Chabad or other reliable kosher source, and in some cases we fly the meat in from Israel. We try to provide as many meat meals as possible. The main course at dinner is preceded by soup and salad and accompanied by freshly prepared vegetables. Dessert typically consists of fresh fruits. We do not guarantee Pat Israel and Chalav Israel for all destinations. In many destinations we have our own dishes and silverware. Where we don’t, we provide disposables at the meals. When we cook in hotel kitchens, we use our own knives, cutting boards, pots and pans, cooking implements and disposable metal trays. All food preparation is done on covered surfaces under the strict supervision of our trained staff/guides who function as our mashgichim. We make great efforts to assure that our travelers will experience local foods first-hand, while maintaining stringent observance of Kashrut laws on all occasions. On most of our tours, you will be accompanied by two of our staff members- one a guide for the tour who is knowledgeable about the places you are visiting and will accompany you throughout the day and the second, a person who will deal with the logistics of the tour and provide kashrut supervision in the kitchen.

It is our aim to provide the finest hotel possible in each area we visit. We require our hotels to allow us to work in the kitchen and to supervise the cooking and there are many hotels that are not willing to cooperate. They simply have no desire for us to be “meddling” in their cooking process nor are they happy about our bringing our equipment into their kitchens. We work very hard to find the best hotel in the area that will meet our requirements. Because we are not ready to compromise on kashrut, we may not always be able to use a five star hotel.

Payment terms • From the moment of registration and up to 31 days before departure, the passenger will be charged only $300 registration fees. • 30 days before the trip departs, we require full payment.

Cancellation conditions • Up to 30 working days before departure, the passenger will be charged only $150 registration fee • 24-29 working days before departure The cost of cancellation is 50% of the price of the trip • 13-8 working days before departure The cost of cancellation is 70% of the price of the trip • From 7 working days, the date of departure of the trip cost 100% cancellation * If any flights are cancelled or additional services (Visa, for example) their prices will be added to the cancellation fee * Fridays and Saturdays, holidays and holidays in Israel, Sundays and holidays abroad are not considered working days.

Monday, October 14 – Athens, Greece – Tour Begins

Our Mediterranean vacation begins in the ancient city of Athens, a cultural trove for art, food, music, and history. This afternoon, join your fellow travelers for an Amazing Journeys Welcome Program, followed by time to explore a fun part of town, the Plaka, the perfect spot for people watching, shopping and food!

Tuesday, October 15 – Athens, Greece – Board Ship

Ship departs at 9 pm – This morning, set out on a tour that allows you to discover some of the highlights of Athens, including the Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium and the Jewish Museum. This afternoon, we will board our home-away-from-home for the next 10 days, the Oceania Riviera .  We’ll get to know our new luxurious ship as we set sail and enjoy our first dinner together.

Wednesday, October 16 –  Mykonos, Greece

Arrive at 7 am, depart at 3 pm (tender port)  –  Enjoy wandering through the narrow, winding streets of this delightful seaside village with its whitewashed houses, colorful flowers and brightly painted shutters and doors. Stand beneath the windmills on the hill, visit the archaeological museum and an old bakery still using a 15th century wood-burning stove. Few places in the world compare with Mykonos. Spend the day relaxing on the beach or follow a maze of tiny streets – Mykonos is a town like no other. Tonight, join us for some AJ fun, followed by a group dinner.

Thursday, October 17 –  Istanbul, Turkey

Arrive at 11 am  – Indulge your eyes and senses in this magnificent city astride two continents, sitting right between Europe and Asia. Istanbul is a city of empires past where you can visit the beautiful Topkapi Palace and the impressive Blue Mosque. Cruise the Bosphorus Straight to see the city and its surroundings from another perspective, visit one of the many museums or stroll through the spice market and the famous Grand Bazaar. We are in port overnight and you will have the opportunity to experience Istanbul by night. Taste some of the local flavors at restaurants in town or shop to your heart’s content at some of the local craft markets.

Friday, October 18 –  Istanbul, Turkey

Depart at 4 pm  – The city of Istanbul dates back thousands of years, and with its age brings numerous opportunities to witness the colorful tilework and dramatic architecture of local mosques. Istanbul is charming with welcoming, friendly people is home to the awesome Hagia Sophia, an amazing architectural feat and often referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Onboard, join together with our Amazing Journeys friends this evening for our community Shabbat, followed by a group dinner.

Saturday, October 19  –  Izmir, Turkey

Arrive at 10 am, depart at 7 pm – Walk along the surf or soak up the sun on any number of Izmir’s magnificent beaches. Visit the lavish Izmir Clock Tower as you stroll through the celebrated Konak Square and take in the local scenery as you meander along the relaxing Kordonboyu oceanfront promenade. Tonight, we’ll come together for an Amazing Journeys cocktail party, followed by more fun onboard. 

Sunday, October 20 –  Cruising the Mediterranean Sea

Cruising –  Our day at sea will provide lots of opportunities for both fun and relaxation. Enjoy a massage at the spa, participate in wine tasting or yoga – the day is yours to recharge. Later, join us for “Jacuzz-a-Palooza” with your new friends. This evening, partake in a variety of activities and dinner onboard our floating resort.

Monday, October 21 –  Bari, Italy

Arrive at 10 am, depart at 8 pm – Tucked along the southern Adriatic, Bari is conveniently divided between its picturesque Old Town on a peninsula to the north and its modern city center to the south. Marvel at the architectural beauty, especially the Romanesque 12th century San Nicola Church and the imposing Swabian Castle. Enjoy a full day in this often unexplored gem in Italy.

Tuesday, October 22 –  Dubrovnik, Croatia

Arrive at 8 am, depart at 7 pm – Dubrovnik is a jewel in the crown of the Mediterranean, and one of the most beautiful cruise ports you will find anywhere in the world. Encircled by medieval ramparts, ancient streets, historic buildings and stone houses, it has a rich cultural heritage, including an interesting Jewish standpoint. Dubrovnik sits on the edge of the Dalmatian islands, facing the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean. The surrounding countryside provides glimpses of life the way it used to be. Back onboard, enjoy sunset as we sail away.  After, the ship is our playground as we enjoy the many activities available onboard.

Wednesday, October 23 –  Kotor, Montenegro

Arrive at 7 am, depart at 4 pm (tender port) – Kotor offers some of the most well preserved architecture in all the Adriatic coast, with its traditional red-tiled roofs and landmarks such as the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon. Built in 1166, there are frescoes dating back hundreds of years, and gold and silver relief work done by the city’s master craftsmen.  The Old City is one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its history and natural beauty. This evening, join with your friends onboard to recap your favorite part of the the day as we toast the Mediterranean with a cocktail onboard.

Thursday, October 24 –  Pula/Rovinij, Croatia

Arrive at 11:30 am, depart at 8:30 pm – Rich in Roman political history, visit the majestic Pula Arena, which dates back to the 1st century. Stroll the quaint streets of the city’s old quarter, lined with Medieval and Renaissance buildings including the well-preserved ancient Roman structures of the Arch of the Sergii and the Temple of Rome and Augustus. Or simply enjoy the wonderful beaches on Rovinj and its medieval old town. Tonight, come together to reminisce on our amazing time in the magnificent Mediterranean and join us for our Amazing Journeys Farewell Event.

Friday, October 25 –  Trieste, Italy

Depart ship at 8 am –  This morning we disembark the ship heading back home with memories of our Amazing Journey through the marvelous Mediterranean. (B)

Cancellation Policy:  Prior to January 24, 2024, there is a $175 penalty for cancellation. From January 25 – April 17, 2024 there is a $350 penalty for cancellation. From April 18 – May 16, 2024, the cancellation penalty is the amount of the deposit. From May 17 – June 13, 2024, the cancellation penalty is 25% of the total for the cruise package including any additional hotel nights. From June 14 – July 16, 2024, the cancellation penalty is 50% of the total for the cruise package including any additional hotel nights. From July 17 – August 15, 2024, the cancellation penalty is 75% of the total for the cruise package including any additional hotel nights. From August 16, 2024 or after and “no-shows” will receive no refund. There is no refund in the event of interruption or cancellation after the start of the cruise and pre-cruise nights in Athens. Your decision not to participate on the tour due to State Department advisories, fear of travel, illness, or any other reason will be deemed a cancellation.

Travel Protection:  Travel protection is highly recommended for participation in this program. Information will be included in your confirmation letter.

Passport & Visa Requirements:  A passport is necessary to travel on this itinerary. It must be valid for six months beyond the last day of the trip. If you don’t have a passport or yours will expire soon, we recommend beginning the process of procuring/renewing your passport. If you hold a US passport at this time, a tourist visa is not required for the countries on this itinerary as we will be traveling by cruise ship.  If you have a passport from any country other than the United States, we recommend you check to see if any visas are required.

Activity Level:  2 out of 5 – This means you’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for 1-2 hours isn’t a big deal.  You can navigate some hills, steps, cobblestones and uneven ground. You can expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own.

Vaccines:  At this time, the countries on this itinerary do not require any specific vaccinations for international travelers. We recommend you visit a travel clinic or see your health professional to be sure you are up to date on vaccinations needed for international travel. Requirements can change at any time. We will have more details in your confirmation email. It is recommended you bring along an official government issued Covid-19 proof of vaccination card as countries and venues along the way may still require it and there is a possibility you may be denied entry without.

Taxes, Fees & Gratuities:  Taxes, surcharges, and government fees are included in the rate and are subject to change.

Air & Transfers:  For your flights, it is important that you not purchase airfare until you receive a confirmation letter from Amazing Journeys which will contain specific flight parameters.  This tour begins in Athens (ATH) and ends in Trieste (port for Venice VCE).  Transfers to the Athens hotel and Venice airport are not included.

Twin Accommodations: Twin accommodations are available if you and a friend are traveling together.  When signing up for twin occupancy, should one of the roommates cancel, the remaining traveling roommate will assume the cost of a single supplement. Standard cancellation terms apply to any cancellation.

Dining Preference: Oceania’s Riviera features an array of complimentary specialty restaurants and unique dining experiences.  The gourmet restaurants each serve a distinctive set of dishes from Continental and wellness-inspired cuisine at The Grand Dining Room, classic French fare at Jaques to Vibrant Asian cuisine at Red Ginger and steakhouse favorites at Polo Grill. There is also the Terrace Café, Waves Grill, Afternoon Tea and Baristas. Don’t forget luxurious room service and more!

Fuel Surcharge: Should oil costs go above $65 per barrel and the cruise lines add fees, Amazing Journeys reserves the right to add them to the cost of the package.  The cost will be no more than $10 per guest per day.

Exchange Rate: In the case of currency fluctuations greater than 3%, we reserve the right to adjust our pricing according in order that we may be able to operate the cruise and tours effectively.
