Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Announces Solo Music, Tour During Band Hiatus

Lauren Mayberry is stepping away from Chvrches to make music on her own for the first time. On Thursday, the musician reflected on the 10th anniversary of the group’s debut LP, The Bones of What You Believe , as she announced plans to tour as a solo artist — but assured that Chvrches isn’t done forever.

“I met Iain [Cook] and Martin [Doherty] when I was 23 — a little baby of a person, in hindsight. Looking back on what we’ve achieved together, so much of it doesn’t feel real or even possible,” the Scottish star wrote on Instagram. “I am so proud of all the chapters our band has been able to have and I am so grateful to my bandmates for taking me on that journey with them.”

“We are all confident that the Chvrches story has many more pages yet to be written,” she continued.

“For a long time, I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything outside of Chvrches. Since I was 15 years old, I have always, only, ever been in a band,” she wrote. “I always wanted so badly to belong somewhere — to be one of the boys, and to fit in.”

“But as I sail/stumble through this era of my life (your 20s really do go by in a flash, kids), it has started to feel like there are things I want to write and say and do that need to be done on my own,” she continued.

Tickets for her solo tour will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on Friday for her shows in the U.S. and on Monday in Europe. “I guess here we fucking go?!” she ended her post.

CHVRCHES Announce 2022 North American Tour

CHVRCHES are returning to North America for a string of 2022 tour dates in further support of last year’s Screen Violence .

The latest leg of their ongoing trek kicks off in Mexico City on May 13th following a warm-up appearance at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees . The Glasgow trio will go on to make stops in cities like Orlando; Washington, DC; and Kansas City before wrapping up at Bonnaroo on June 18th. Along the way, they will also make festival appearances at BottleRock and WonderRoad Music Festival in Indianapolis.

CHVRCHES have announced details of a huge new North American tour for 2022 – check out the new list of dates below.

The Scottish trio are fresh off a three-song performance at this week’s (March 2) BandLab NME Awards 2022 in London, where they performed with  The Cure ‘s Robert Smith .

After a UK tour that begins next week (March 10), the band will head to the US and Mexico from the end of April, playing a host of shows that take them up until the end of June. The new headline dates begin in late May.

During their set at the BandLab NME Awards 2022, the band performed their track ‘Asking For A Friend’ from 2021 album ‘Screen Violence’ and then teamed up with Smith for a world exclusive live premiere of ‘How Not To Drown’. To cap the set off, they joined Smith in covering Cure classic ‘Just Like Heaven’.

After the performance, the band’s Martin Doherty described the experience to NME as “really, really scary,” adding: “Honestly, I’ve never practiced four notes so much in my life.”

Reviewing the set , NME wrote: “Following widespread disruption to regular touring and recording, tonight isn’t just the first time that Smith and have performed live together – it’s actually their first time meeting in person, full stop.

“Realised on stage, with all creative minds present and correct, it’s completely magical  (Drag Race star Bimini certain seems to think so, they’re headbanging away) and spirals right up to the roof with a squalling, Robert Smith guitar solo special.”
