You Can Actually Visit The CSI: Miami Headquarters Building

David Caruso staring

Do you think you know everything there is to know about " CSI: Miami ?" All right, hotshot, which famous actor was almost cast in the role of Horatio Caine before it went to David Caruso?

If you answered, "Don Johnson," then you're correct. Johnson would've been a natural pick for the lead of the procedural series, especially seeing as how he used to star in another series based out of Florida — " Miami Vice ." Anyone who knew that also likely knows that the show doesn't primarily film in The Sunshine State. Certain scenes definitely come out of Miami, but they're primarily overhead shots of famous locales. For the most part, the show's based out of Southern California, so anyone hoping to do a "CSI: Miami" location tour would do best until they plan to head to the South Bay of Los Angeles.

One place certainly worth visiting is the building to show uses to film headquarters. It's actually pretty easy to get to and check out if you know where to look.

The CSI: Miami headquarters building is actually an FAA Credit Union Building in Hawthorne, CA

You can search high and low for the "CSI: Miami" headquarters building in Miami, Florida, and you'll still come up empty-handed. That's because, like many television productions, filming doesn't actually occur on location where the show is set. It takes place predominantly around Southern California, particularly in areas like Long Beach and Manhattan Beach. If you want to find the iconic headquarters the cast spends a good chunk of time in, you'll want to head over to the city of Hawthorne. According to the Credit Union Times , "The headquarters of the $229 million FAA First Federal Credit Union recently played a role in the hit television program 'CSI: Miami' after the credit union allowed the program to film some of its episodes in the 35,000 square-foot space."

It's easy to see why a film production would want to utilize such a building. It has an incredibly unique architecture that stands out in the mind. Plus, sunny California looks awfully similar to Florida for most of the year, so it's not like most people would be able to tell the difference that the scene actually shot on the other side of the country.

"CSI: Miami" isn't the building's only claim to fame. It was also used as the location for The Newport Group building in "The O.C."

The Citadel Wordmark

The Military College of South Carolina

July 6, 2024 - july 31, 2024, the citadel success institute.

CSI is a summer transitional program that helps students get a head start in preparing academically, physically, and socially for cadet life at The Citadel. CSI is scheduled for July 6, 2024 - July 31, 2024 . REGISTER

CSI Begins July 6, 2024

Get a head start in preparing academically, physically, and socially for cadet life at the citadel.

CSI (Citadel Success Institute) prepares incoming cadets for the upcoming year by supporting their transition into The Citadel. They will become familiar with the campus and student support services, the academic and physical expectations and earn college credit.

Students will leave CSI with a support system of fellow cadets and Citadel professionals, in addition to an increased confidence with the military lifestyle. Students will have the opportunity to maintain the friendships made at CSI using the Cadet Co mpany Connections where they can both request to be assigned to the same company.

The summer program lasts about a month in July with students living on campus. They will have structured days during the week, with the opportunity to explore Charleston before starting the school year. This is a great opportunity for those from out of town to get comfortable with the area before making the big move. However, the program is beneficial for all incoming cadets to make the transition from high school to the military college as seamless as possible.

Cannes Competition Title ‘Grand Tour’ Debuts Trailer, Director Miguel Gomes’ Next Film to Be ‘Savagery’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Grand Tour

Variety has been granted exclusive access to the trailer (below) for Portuguese director Miguel Gomes ‘ “Grand Tour,” which will have its world premiere in Cannes Film Festival’s Competition section. Variety can also exclusively reveal that that distribution on “Grand Tour” will be handled in France by Tandem, and in Italy by Lucky Red, and that Gomes’ next film will be “Savagery.”

Popular on Variety

“Grand Tour” is produced by Uma Pedra No Sapato (Portugal) in co-production with Vivo Film (Italy), Shellac Sud (France) and Cinema Defacto (France), in association with The Match Factory (Germany), Rediance (China) and Creatps Inc. (Japan), and with the participation of ZDF/ARTE and RTP.

Gomes was previously in Cannes in 2015 with “Arabian Nights” and in 2021 with “The Tsugua Diaries.” His 2012 film “Tabu” played at the Berlinale.

Speaking to Variety , the film’s producer Filipa Reis explains how the project came together.

It was over dinner with Reis that Gomes first presented his idea for the film, in which narrative sequences shot in a studio would be intercut with footage of contemporary Asia. “The idea was… I don’t know… very appealing and charming,” says Reis, who was a co-producer on “The Tsugua Diaries.” Gomes then asked her to produce it.

The plan was for Gomes to take a small documentary-style crew to seven Asian countries – Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Japan and China – shooting in 16mm so “that we could build this archive and then to write the script according to what was found,” Reis says.

Once those funds were in place, Gomes shot the narrative sequences in studios in Portugal and Italy in early 2023.

Reis says it was a “challenge” to do the Asia trip without a script, adding “it’s not as it’s meant to be in the industry, but it was also very appealing.” She adds that it required “a risk” to be taken to shoot the archive footage before applying to the production funds.

Asked how working with Gomes compares with working other directors, she says: “He’s very unique. And I think to work with him, you really have to be very confident about what he’s doing, because it can be a proposal that’s a bit outside the box compared with the way you are used to doing things, and the way the funds and the industry thinks things are supposed to be done.”

During the studio shoot they had “links to some rough edit archive footage, so that when you read the script, you could understand at least how [the narrative footage] crossed over with the archive,” she says. The narrative sequences are in Portuguese, except for one character who speaks in French. The archive footage is in the language of the country that the crew were shooting in.

Although the story takes place in Asia during a time of imperial rule in many countries colonialism isn’t the theme, Reis says, in contrast to “Tabu.” “I would say that it’s something new. Of course, ‘Tabu’ is a great film, but I think this one will be surprising,” she says, enigmatically.

As to the tone of “Grand Tour,” Reis says that it contains both comedy and tragedy, “but it is also melancholic, and it is courageous.” She adds: “I think it has a lot of emotional elements for us to make a connection with it.”

The film was finished in October, and shown to Cannes in November. A world premiere at Cannes was always “Plan A,” Reis says, adding: “I feel as a producer that it’s where the film is supposed to be, and where Miguel is supposed to be.”

At present no preview screenings are planned, although that may change, and Gomes isn’t doing press interviews before the world premiere. “We would like it if the film was discovered by everyone at the same time,” Reis says. “I’m a bit anxious to see how it will be received, and we are very curious about that. So it would be nice if we could make a surprise and share our enthusiasm and our surprise with the audience.”

Reis says that her next project as a producer will be Gomes’ Brazilian-set film “Savagery,” which will be co-produced by Tatiana Leite in Brazil. Further details about the project will be released at a later date.

Kelsea Ballerini has filed for a temporary restraining order against a fan who allegedly disseminated music that wasn’t finished without permission.

The “Penthouse” singer has asked for the TRO against Bo Ewing, whom Ballerini claims “without authority or approval, surreptitiously gained access to, copied and disseminated still-in-production, unreleased masters and demos” of her music.

Ewing is described in court papers as “a former member of Ms. Ballerini’s fan club” and “a supporter of her career in the past” who “has since become disenfranchised with Ms. Ballerini.”

“[Ewing] has a history of hacking other famous musician’s accounts and obtaining works and information improperly,” the documents state.

Ballerini, Black River Entertainment and producer Alysa Vanderheym secured an injunction to prevent “continued, irreparable harm” from any further unauthorized release of the unfinished recordings.

$14.5M gold heist from Toronto airport results in charges for airline employee and 8 other people

A police officer opens the back of a recovered truck

TORONTO — Police said nine people are facing charges in what authorities are calling the biggest gold theft in Canadian history from Toronto’s Pearson International airport a year ago.

Peel Regional Police said Wednesday that 6,600 gold bars worth more than 20 million Canadian dollars ($14.5 million), and CA$2.5 million ($1.8 million) in foreign currencies were stolen. The gold was melted down and used to purchase illegal firearms, police said.

Those charged include a Air Canada warehouse employee and a former Air Canada manager who gave police a tour of cargo of the facility after the theft. A jewelry store owner is also charged.

“This story is a sensational one and which probably, we jokingly say, belongs in a Netflix series,” Peel Regional Chief Nishan Duraiappah said.

Peel Reginal Detective Sgt. Mike Mavity said the gold bars, weighing 419 kilograms (923 pounds), and foreign currency, ordered from a refinery in Zurich, Switzerland, were transported in the haul of a Air Canada flight on April 17 last year.

He said that late afternoon a truck driver arrived at the airline’s cargo warehouse with a fraudulent bill that was provided to a airline warehouse attendant.

Mavity said a bill for seafood that was picked up the day before was used to pick up the gold. The duplicate bill was printed off at the Air Canada warehouse, he said.

“They needed people within Air Canada to facilitate this theft,” Mavity said in front of the truck police say was used in the theft.

Mavity said police are searching for the Air Canada manager who gave police a tour of the facility in the days after the theft. He said that manager left his job last summer and said they have an idea of where he is.

Mavity said some of the suspects were known to police and some were not. He said they seized six crudely made bracelets made of gold.

“I don’t think I ever imagined they would have to deal with the largest gold heist in Canadian history,” said Patrick Brown, the mayor of Brampton, Ontario. “It’s almost out of an ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ movie or CSI.”

Air Canada employee Parmpal Sidhu, 54, from Brampton, Ontario, jewelry store owner Ali Raza, 37, from Toronto, Amit Jalota, 40, a Oakville, Ontario resident, Ammad Chaudhary, 43, from Georgetown, Ontario and Prasath Paramalingam, 35, from Brampton are among those that have been arrested. Mavity said they have been released on bail conditions and will be in court at a later date.

Mavity said the truck driver that allegedly picked up the gold, Durante King-Mclean, a 25-year-old from Brampton, is currently in custody in the U.S. on firearms and trafficking related charges.

Police are searching for former Air Canada manager Simran Preet Panesar, 31, from Brampton as well as Archit Grover, 36, from Brampton and Arsalan Chaudhary, 42, from Mississauga Ontario.

Peel Regional Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said only CA$90,000 ($65,00) of the more than CA$20 million has been recovered.

U.S. ATF Special Agent, Eric DeGree, said King-Mclean, was arrested in Pennsylvania after a traffic stop and that led to the seizure of 65 illegal firearms that were allegedly destined to be smuggled into Canada. DeGree said he tried to flee after police discovered the firearms in his rental car.

Brinks, an American cash handling company, arrived at the airport cargo facility the night of April 17 to pick up the gold and were told the gold and currency was missing after a search.

Brinks sued Air Canada over the theft last year. According to the company’s filing last year, a thief walked away with the costly cargo after presenting a fake document at an Air Canada warehouse on April 17.

In a Nov. 8 statement of defense, Air Canada rejected “each and every allegation” in the Brink’s lawsuit, saying it fulfilled its carriage contracts and denying any improper or “careless” conduct.

The country’s largest airline also said Brink’s failed to note the value of the haul on the waybill — a document typically issued by a carrier with details of the shipment — and that if Brink’s did suffer losses, a multilateral treaty known as the Montreal Convention would cap Air Canada’s liability.

In Federal Court filings that claim breach of contract and millions of dollars in damages, Brinks said an “unidentified individual” gained access to the airline’s cargo warehouse and presented a “fraudulent” waybill shortly after an Air Canada flight from Zurich landed at Pearson.

The statement of the claim says the staff then handed over 400 kilograms of gold in the form of 24 bars plus nearly $2 million in cash to the thief, who promptly “absconded with the cargo.”

DeGree said dozens of firearms authorities were seized, including two fully automatic weapons and five guns that were untraceable.

“I’m proud to say that we successfully put an international gun trafficking operation out of business. We kept 65 firearms off the streets of Canada and prevented them from being used in any number of crimes,” DeGree said.

Mavity said that “we believe they melted down the gold and with the profits they got from the gold they used to purchase illegal firearms.”
