(www.uci.ch 13/7/2014)

The 2010 Tour de France was the 97th edition of the prestigious cycling race. It took place from July 3 to July 25, 2010, and covered a total distance of 3,642 kilometers (2,263 miles). The race consisted of 21 stages, including time trials, mountain stages, and flat stages.

- Controversy: The race was marred by controversy, particularly in the relationship between the two top contenders, Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck. Schleck lost the yellow jersey to Contador after a chain slip incident on Stage 15, and there were debates about whether Contador should have waited for Schleck.
- Alberto Contador’s Victory: Contador , the Spanish cyclist riding for Astana, initially finished second but was later declared the winner. Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away , following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
