Uttari Betta is a 5 km trek across a spectacular lush green landscape that offers unique scenic views similar to western ghats, it is also one of Karnataka’s greatest day hikes. The trek starts from a small village, enters the fort wall, and passes through seven doors of stone to reach the halfway point of the hike which has a temple of Shankareswar at the top. The view from the temple top is beautiful enough to seize your mind for a moment. Once we cross the temple, the trek continues ahead crossing a small jungle cave, experiencing a whole new unexpected world, and, ending at the grassland top of the hill which is surrounded by huge boulders. After spending some time at the top with little chit-chat and packing lunch, we begin to descend back towards the base point of the trek.

As this is a budget trip, we expect our travelers to coordinate with the Trip Guide from Tripbae, and the Trip Guide’s decisions will be final.

Day 0 - Departure from Bengaluru

Meet at the designated starting point in Bengaluru and travel to Kunigal by private transportation.

We'll pick up our fellow explorers at the following locations.  Click  on each location to see the exact pickup point.

Day 1 - Time for an uphill hike!

▪️ 02:30 AM - Arrive at the base of Uttari Betta and take some time to relax ▪️ 03:00 AM - Begin the ascent to the peak of Uttari Betta ▪️ 04:30 AM - Reach the summit of Uttari Betta, unwind by the campfire and witness the sunrise ▪️ 07:00 AM - Post-sunrise, start the descent towards the base ▪️ 07:30 AM - Take a break en route to freshen up and enjoy a self-funded breakfast. Optional water activities can be completed at this time ▪️ 12:30 PM - Arrive back in Bangalore, marking the end of this exciting adventure

Our trek leaders always accompany the group, offering constant assistance and direction. Our camp sites are thoroughly secure and provide a safe lodging environment. In addition, our female trek leaders often join our treks.

Are there restroom facilities available during the trek?

No, since you'll be traversing the mountains, our trekking routes do not provide restroom facilities.

What does the "Without Transportation" option signify during the booking process?

Selecting the "Without Transportation" option implies that you will be arranging all your travel needs for the complete itinerary. The Tripbae team will not handle any facet of your transportation. We suggest the use of a car for a hassle-free journey to, from, and around the destination.

Located in the Tumkur district of Karnataka, Huthridurga, Huthri Betta or Uttari Betta is a fortified hill built by King Kempegowda in the 18th century. The seven-fort gateway structure, built on rocks that are found along the hike, is unique and picturesque. This hill also served as a military base during Tipu Sultan’s time.

Best Time To Visit

You can do the Uttari Betta hike all year round. The best time to visit is during the sunrise, early in the morning. During summer, however, we advise you to start the trek early as it becomes increasingly hot and humid as the day goes by.

How To Reach Huthridurga From Bangalore?

The place is not connected to the railway station. There are no frequent buses available to reach Huthridurga. The ideal way to reach Huthridurga is by road using personal transport. There are two routes, via Yeshwantpur where the roads are good, and via the Tumkur highways where you have to pay for the toll (including two-wheelers). The road after the highways is not as good as compared to the Yeshwantpur route.

Search for the Huthridurga trek starting point . This will lead you straight to the parking lot, the starting point of the hike.

Where To Eat?

Only one snack shop can be found at the base of the hike. Restaurants can be found before entering the Huthridurga Hill near the arch entrance. Bring food or snacks, especially if you are planning for the sunrise hike as no shops will be open at that hour.

The pilgrimage visit is a popular activity. This is also a great place for trekking enthusiasts to watch the sunrise.

Difficulty Level : Easy, can be done by any age group.

Terrain: Grasslands, steps, and rocks.

Water Resources: No drinking water sources will be available along the hiking route. Bring your reusable water bottles. You can refill from the homes at the base.

Hiking Route:

The trek starts from the temple situated in the village. There are steps carved on stones with side steel rails for support making it easier for anyone to do this hike. There are also white direction arrows wherever needed.

Huthridurga fort ruins with seven fort entrances can be found along the route.

At The Huthridurga Summit:

You can find the Shiva temple known as Shankareshwara temple and a Nandi idol just before the last leg of the stairs. Pooja to the deity is done on Mondays and Fridays. There is a deep spring called “Dotta done” which never dries up.

We get an extensive view of the surrounding settlements dotted by a large number of hills and a lake. A viewpoint on the right (while facing the temple) and Huthridurga fort ruins can also be found. The view is picturesque, to say the least. It is certainly unique and spectacular to be called a ‘million-dollar’ view.

The two stone boulders mark the end of the hiking trail of Uttari Betta. From here, you can see the popular hills of Shivgange and Savanadurga on a clear day.

Important Points To Remember

• The use of plastics and smoking is strictly prohibited. 
• As a hiker, it is incumbent on you to be responsible and not litter. Ideally, you are supposed to leave better than it was before. But, you can settle for leaving the trail just as you found it. 
• No trek guide is required for the Huthridurga hike. You can do this trek by yourselves as the stairs and arrow marks guide you straight to the top. The chances of getting lost are little to none.
• Beware of monkeys. They are notorious for stealing food from travelers.

Essential Things To Carry

• Ensure you carry at least 1L of water per person.
• Take sufficient snacks and energy bars. There is only one shop at the base which is open only during the daytime.
• Cap, sunscreen & sunglasses are essential to ward off the summer heat.
• Carry a poncho or raincoat in case of rain.
• Above all, ensure you wear comfortable shoes.

Uttari Betta (Hutridurga) - Night Trek

A “Sunrise Trek” sounds exciting, and it sure is! You trek at night, camp at the peak and wake up to a beautiful sunrise. Uttari Betta is one such option close to Bangalore. We opted for a trek organised by BMC, during the good monsoon months and it was a great experience by all measures.

Uttari Betta, also called Hutridurga, is one of the Navadurgas, the nine fortified hills around Bangalore. The ruins are still visible all along the way. Being fairly easy and short, it is a great place for a quick getaway for people of all ages.

Duration and Time of Visit

1 night August mid

To and From

• At that hour, the bus journey passed like a breeze, especially once we were out of the city area

• This was the first time I was trekking at night. Since you can not see anything, you need to be extra vigilant, strictly walk in a queue and definitely follow the instructions
• The hill is actually a rock, with vegetation all over it and the trek route is ~3km long, the terrain being easy
• Besides our backpacks, we were also carrying a sleeping bag each, since the plan was to sleep at the peak till sunrise
• Without much difficulty, and without being able to see any of the natural beauty around us, we reached the top in about 1.5 hours, packed ourselves into the sleeping bags and dozed off
• The peak had a lot of vegetation, small entrapments of water and obviously, a lot of boulders; and a vast stretch of green all around
• It was extremely calm - we sat silently for a long time. It was extremely inviting - we walked around for a long time
• While the terrain is all rock, it has thick intermittent patches of green
• There is a temple of Lord Shiva on the way, and ruins of a fort built by Kempegowda in the 16th century
• There comes a spot where we had only small steps cut into the boulder. While it was actually not that difficult, but I am not sure how we had crossed it the previous night - ignorance is bliss!
• It took us about 45 minutes to descend, stopping every once in a while to click pictures
• Finally we reached the bottom and saw in full, the hill that we had spent the night on
• We boarded the bus, stopped in between for a quick breakfast and reached Bangalore by 11am, bringing the short and sweet trip to a close

Tips and Resources

• If you do the night trek, definitely be extra careful and carry a good flashlight. Also, I think you should do the night trek only with an organised group
• It can be windy at the top, hence it’s advisable to carry an extra layer of clothing for the night
• It’s best to wear a cap, apply sunscreen and carry sufficient water for the morning trek
• You should carry the camping essentials (toiletries, first aid)

About Uttari Betta :  One of Karnataka's greatest day hike, the Uttari Betta is a 5 kms trek across a spectacular lush green landscape which offers a quite unique scenic views similar to western ghats. The trek starts from a small village, entering the fort wall and passes through seven doors of stone to reach the halfway point of the hike which has a temple of Shankareswar at the top. The view from the temple top is beautiful enough to seize your mind for a moment. Once we cross the temple, the trek continues ahead crossing a small jungle-cave, experiencing a whole new unexpected world and ends at the grassland top of the hill which is surrounded by huge boulders. After spending some time at the top with little chit-chat and pack lunch, we begin to descend back towards the base point of the trek.

The trek was very easy, bus ride to the base was fun too. But we reached the top at 4 am and had 2 hours to spend before sunrise which was hard as there was no campfire and it was pretty cold. Breakfast on the return journey was in a restaurant and it was pretty good.

I guess we reached too early to hill top, 2 hours prior to sunrise. Braving the chilly breeze and waiting for sunrise was a little rough patch. Distance too and fro from Bengaluru was much longer than the trek duration🤣🤣 It's a good puck for beginners though.

This is my first solo trek of mine. I met some awesome people there and with the night sky, stars, and the sunrise everything was just perfect.

Started trekking after ages and it turned out to be a good one... Kudos to the team... The only drawback I feel is the many pickups which actually were more time-consuming n tiring than the trek up the hill. Can be planned better to reduce time spent on it.

Good trek for the weekend. Fairly easy trek and can easily be done in a day. Missed the sunrise because of the rain so don't know about the sunrise views. Have some qualms about the organizers because I specifically asked them to stop at a medical shop and it didn't seem like they cared. Other arrangements seemed alright.

This is one of the easiest treks I have ever been. The main monolithic portion which could have been challenging is carved into steps and it makes this trek a cake walk. It is an ideal trek for first-timers or even children.

• Any cancellation made 60 days prior to the date of departure, would levy 20% of the total tour cost as cancellation charges.
• Any cancellation made 30 days prior to the date of departure, would levy 30% of the total tour cost as cancellation charges.
• Any cancellation made 15-30 days prior to the date of departure, would levy 50% of the total tour cost as cancellation charges.
• Any cancellation made 0-15 days prior to the date of departure, would levy 100% of the total tour cost as cancellation charges.
• Due to any restrictions such as sudden government policies or regulations, or unprecedented weather conditions, activities and tours may be nonoperational and be canceled.
• In cases such as these, operators will attempt to cater to the traveler with an alternative that is feasible in nature. However, any refund would not be catered to.

• Any refund applicable will be processed within 7 business days.
• This activity is only available on Saturdays
• All aged group children will be charged the same as the adult
• Pregnant women and people with serious medical conditions are advised not to do this trek
• No consumption of alcohol during the whole trek

Uttari Betta or Hutridurga  is a popular hillock located at a distance of 80 Km from Bangalore is a famous trekking spot. This trek takes you on an open landscape with a grand view. The trail begins at a small village, passing through the fort walls, followed by stone doors – seven of them in total. On the midway of the trek, there is a Shiva temple.

The view from the top of the temple is one of the memorable parts of the trek. After crossing the temple, a small jungle-cave appears and finally grassland over the hill which is surrounded by huge boulders.

There are a fort and a temple to explore at the top. We can also take cool reflection pictures at a man-made pool.

Day 1 - Uttari Betta

• Start from Bangalore early in the morning at 5 AM.
• Enroute have self sponsored breakfast.
• A journey of just 1.5 hours after we exit the city will take us to the base of Uttari Betta.
• Start the trek from a small village and followed by seven stone doors
• Have quick bites and snacks on the way.
• After reaching the summit, enjoy panoramic views of surroundings.
• Explore the fort ruins, shiva temple, relax for some time, hike down.
• Start back to Bangalore, stop over for self sponsored Lunch.
• Drop off by Evening.

Depending on the type of weekend and weather/traffic conditions, the Organizers may decide to start 1 hour early sometimes or 1 hour late sometimes. Trip Leader will update exact start timing in the Whatsapp group.

What to Expect

About trip:.

• This trip involves  basic facilities  in terms of food, travel, and stay without any luxury, whatsoever.
• This is a group trip with shared model. It may not suit everyone – especially for those expecting privacy and comfort. It best suits for people who wish to  socialize .
• Please do not book this trip if you are not okay with above points.

About Trek:

• Total Trek Distance: 5 KM approx (two way)
• Trek Duration: 3 – 4 hours
• Trail information: Mix of Stone Steps, Muddy Trails, Grass lands, Thick Forest

Seasonal variations:

• June to Sept (monsoon months): Intermittent rains may invite us at the Uttaribetta trek. Be a little careful to avoid slippery rocks. This can be the best season with distant clouds and raincoats on.
• Oct to Feb (winter, pre-summer):   Pleasant weather, dry climate for Uttaribetta trek. Good time to trek for beautiful views.
• March to May (summer): Since days are hot in summer, we usually change this to Uttaribetta Sunrise trek, we would start in Bangalore around midnight. This posting will be updated by then.

Things to carry

• A small backpack for the trek (water bottle, snacks, etc.)
• Track pants, full sleeve T-shirt for the trek
• Good grip shoes or sandals
• Torch Light or Mobile torch
• Sunglasses (to keep your eyes fresh)
• Proper water bottle for your trek. 
• Poncho or rainproof jacket with a hood (based on weather forecast)

What's next after booking your trip?

• A Whatsapp group will be created for all the registered folks a night before the trip.
• You may say hi to other trekkers and get prepared for the trip.

Terms & Conditions

• The itinerary is fixed. No special requests to change itinerary/schedule shall be entertained. Do not give advice(s) to the Trip Leader(s) to change the itinerary.
• Cooperate with the organizer(s) in following the schedule set for the day (especially getting up and getting ready in the morning). This will ensure travelers won’t miss out on the real fun part that is traveling.
• Every traveler is responsible for his/her for your own safety. Don’t indulge in any illegal or silly activity that causes harm to you or fellow travelers.
• Do not wander into the forest away from the designated trail for treks. There may be snakes, scorpions, and dangerous animals.
• Unexpected situations: It may happen we do not cover all the places mentioned in the itinerary because of unpredictable reasons like bad weather, landslides, wild animal presence, abrupt blocking of sites by the police/forest department, delay in travel because of an issue with our group itself, traffic conditions, etc. In most cases, if the time permits, the organizer(s) will take travelers to an alternative place. But in some cases, we may have to skip a place altogether.
• Absolutely no littering. We swear to protect our environment.
• No alcohol & smoking during travel, treks, and other outdoor activities. There would be a separate window and space (usually at night) to have these at the campsite/homestay for interested people.
• Travelers are expected to respect each other and help each other. Avoid discussing sensitive matters like sex, politics, and religion/caste/race.
• Using foul or abusive language, eve-teasing, arguing with fellow travelers/organizer(s), and/or involving in the physical assault will not be accepted and will stand a chance of being deserted by the group then and there.
• The event will stand canceled if less than 8 travelers signed up for the trip/trek which will be informed 24 hours before the trip start time.
• Every traveler is expected to sign a liability/waiver form given by the organizer(s) after boarding the vehicle. This liability form will discharge Muddie Trails of any unexpected incident like injury/death/theft etc.

Cancellation & Refund

Cancellation by traveler.

• 80% refund/100% postponement if you inform about your cancellation before 48 hours of the event start time. An email has to be sent to [email protected] to raise a cancellation request.
• No refund/postponing is allowed within 48 hours of the event start time whatever is the reason (Health, Accident, Covid, Family crisis, Office issue, or anything else).
• No refund/postponing is allowed even if you booked within 48 hours.
• Alternatively, you may postpone your ticket to the future event 48 hours before the event start time.  (Allowed once per booking ONLY)
• No refund/postponing is allowed for partial payment – booking fee – which is done to book your slot.
• No refund during/after the event.

Cancellation by Muddie Trails

Muddie Trails may decide to cancel the event if there are less than 8 travelers signed up for the trip/trek.

What if we don’t get the minimum number of people for the trip? We have 2 options in this case: Option 1: Complete refund. Option 2: Switch to any other trip of the same weekend or future weekends. The difference amount will be collected from you or paid back according to the new trip cost.

Cancellation due to external factors

Muddie Trails may have to cancel the event in case of external factors that are beyond our control like Natural Disasters, Extreme Weather Conditions, Red Alerts, Political Disturbances, Bandh/Curfews, Local Issues, Road Blocks, Train cancellations, Covid-19 or any other disease outbreaks etc.

In these scenarios:

• No Refund is allowed.
• 100% trip amount can be used for any other new trip of the same weekend or future weekends. The difference amount will be collected from you or paid back according to the new trip cost.
• Once you confirm your participation on the new trip, all the above Cancellation policies will apply for the same.

About Uttari Betta:  

One of Bangalore's best hiking trail, the Uttari Betta is a 5 km trek across a spectacular lush green landscape that offers a quite unique scenic view similar to that of Western Ghats. CANCELLATION POLICY

• If cancellations are made 15-30 days before the start date of the trip, 50% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
• If cancellations are made within 0-15 days before the start date of the trip, 100% of the total tour cost will be charged as cancellation fees.
• In case of unforeseen weather conditions or government restrictions, certain trips or activities may get canceled. In such cases, we will try our best to provide an alternate feasible. However, a refund will not be applicable for the same.
• Cancellations are strictly subjected to cancellation policies mentioned on the website & are irrespective of the date of booking.

• Our facilities are neat and basic, not luxurious
• Our accommodations are many times sleeping bags and Tents, Dormitories, rooms with beds and sometimes just sleeping bags under the glittering sky.
• The average level of fitness is required to participate in the trek. We will not be responsible if any participant is unable to get to the summit due to their own limitations.
• The food provided will be basic delicious Vegetarian food.
• NammaTrip  shall not be responsible for any of your belongings, valuables, jewelry, etc. 
• We expect every participant to be responsible for littering. Please keep every place we visit clean.
• You agree to indemnify yourself for the risks involved in the outings varying from destinations to destinations.
• We have designated pick up and drop points, make your own arrangements of transports to the desired pick-up point accordingly.
• We may revise the Terms and Conditions from time to time by updating this posting. The revised terms will take effect when they are posted.
• Nammatrip  is not responsible if any injuries or accidents occur during the event.
• Any client consuming alcohol, misbehaving, causing delay during the event will be terminated from the event without any prior warning and no refund will be given. Such clients should arrange their own transport to the way back, Nammatrip does not hold the responsibility of terminated clients.
• Littering, smoking & consumption of alcohol is banned outdoors or anytime during the trek. We will provide you with a time and place to enjoy your drinks.

Bangalore is surrounded by many splendid hills and hillocks waiting to be explored. If you want to check them one by one, you must surely add this to your bucket list. Uttari Betta, the fortified hill known as Hutridurga in the southeast of Kunigal taluk, is the most popular trekking trail in Karnataka, and that is without reason because of the magnificent beauty it possesses. This popular trekking trail of Karnataka is a five-kilometre climb that treats adventurers with stunning views that imprints their minds for the rest of their lives. 

This trek is a super master of scenic views and thrills you with the historic fort walls and intricate stone steps. An interesting fact is that this hill fort is said to have eight gateways from the foot to the summit in addition to the other several outer gates. What waits on the top? The trek summit delivers the temple of Shankareswar, where one gets an extensive view of the landscape dotted by many hills. 

This sunrise trek with Plan The Unplanned takes you right into the middle of nature with the help of caves, jungles and huge boulders that will make you marvel at the immensity of life. The journey starts from Bengaluru at 11 PM. Once everyone is on board, the trek leads will make you participate in some activities to get over the residual office thoughts. The fun sessions involve getting to know the trek group, who will become your buddies throughout the trip. Of course, even after doing all that, we know how important sleep is for you to enjoy the trip, so consider that taken care of.

After walking for a reasonable amount of time in the dark through the village, you will come across a glorious fort that will immediately transport you to another world. Walkthrough the walls of this fort to come across the seven doors of stone. The trail meanders through boulders and steps carved into huge rocks. But worry not; our trek leaders will always be there to motivate you, making sure no one is left behind.

The end of the climb is when you pass these doors, you will come to the temple of Shankareswar. This temple is right at the top and is also the middle point of the trek. Make sure to take in the beautiful view at the top as it is a view that is unlike any other that you have seen.

After absorbing the beauty at the top of the hill, make your way towards the jungle cave that will have you captivated by its entire beauty. Just for a moment, you will forget what it is like to be a part of civilization as you will become a part of another world altogether.

The trail will end when you come across a huge grassland at the top of the hill, surrounded by huge boulders. We will observe the stunning sunrise at this location, with only green grass, clear blue skies, and dark grey boulders for our company. Make sure to remember this moment for as long as possible, as it will remind you of the absolute peace you felt at that moment.

Following the gorgeous sunrise, with a magical mix of colours in the sky, we let ourselves drown in its beauty. We will quickly begin our descent back to the base camp. Make sure to tread carefully while being enchanted by the beauty of the hills. We shall pause on the way to have a quick breakfast and then set out for Bangalore.

Q: I'm a solo traveller, Can I join? A: The exciting thing about travelling alone is that you get to meet new people from diverse backgrounds, and towards the end, you are no longer strangers. Q: I have booked the trek when will I get further updates regarding the trek? A: Well, most of our treks are usually confirmed by Thursday, and you would receive an Event Headsup mail containing details regarding Pickup Points ( Location and Timings ), Outdoor Leader ( Point of Contact ), and Dos and Don’ts. You’ll be added to the WhatsApp group a day before for all further updates.

Q: Would I be added to a WhatsApp Group once the trek is confirmed? A: Yes, the Bon Voyage mail would contain a link for Whatsapp Group through which one can join and interact with fellow travelers and outdoor leaders.

Q: Is it safe for Women/Girls? A: Safety and security are our priorities at all times. Hence it is safe for women/girls to join us on our treks and travels. Our trek leaders always accompany the team, and our campsites are secured and safe for accommodation. We also have female trek leaders who accompany us on most of our treks.

Q: Do I have to carry luggage all the way during trekking? A: Not at all. You could keep all the extra luggage back at the campsite/homestay and carry only the necessary stuff for the trek (Raincoats, Torchlight, Waterbottle, lunchbox, and your valuable)

Q: Do you have Washrooms during the trek? A: Well, you are in the mountains, and none of our trails has a washroom facility during the trek.

Q: Do I have any other boarding points apart from the ones mentioned? A: Yes, we have options for picking a traveller on board with a few locations, provided they are on the route to our destination. Q: What is "Without Travel" option during my booking process? A: Well, if you select this option, all the travel arrangements for your entire itinerary must be managed by yourself, and Plan the Unplanned crew will not be managing anything related to your travel. Q: Would I be able to postpone to a future in case I do not attend the trek on the day of departure? A: We are extremely sorry, you cannot postpone to any future date in case you fail to attend the trek on the mentioned date for any reason (family/health/work emergencies). Q: I've never gone on a hike before, so can I do this one? A: The Uttari Betta trek is an easy-moderate trek, and one can easily do this trek with moderate fitness.

Q: Is it necessary for me to hire a guide to trek Uttari Betta? A: No, you do not need to hire a guide to trek Uttari Betta.

Q: Can we leave the luggage at the homestay/tents? A: A one-day trek wouldn’t have the facility of a homestay; hence, you’ll have to leave your luggage in the bus and carry the necessary to the trek.

Q: What about Uttari Betta’s cellphone network and connectivity? A: You have access to a mobile network for practically all major providers like Airtel, Vodafone, Jio, and others until the Base of the peak. You will be outside of the network service area from the base to the peak of Uttari Betta.

Q: What is the best time to trek Uttari Betta? A: The ideal season to hike to Uttari Betta is from September to February. The path turns muddy and slippery during heavy monsoons, making the descent difficult, while summers are too humid.

Q: Is it possible to camp anywhere along the trail? A: No, you cannot camp anywhere along the trail.

Q: Is it possible to trek Uttari Betta during the monsoon season? A: No, it is not possible to trek Uttari Betta during the monsoon season.

Q: Is there a night trek from Bangalore to Uttari Betta? A: A night walk to Uttari Betta from Bangalore is accessible in winter and summer. For novices, the night trek is an easy level with medium endurance.

Q: Is there food and water on the Uttari Betta Trek? A: There will be no food or drink available on the walk; you must carry your own. On this hike, bring two to three litres of water with you. To avoid hot and salty foods, bring some packed food such as whole fruits, dry snacks, energy bars, and cakes.

Shatner pitches "Weird or What" in Cannes

We will find in May if William Shatner’s new sitcom Bleep My Dad Says gets picked up, but one Shatner show that is definitely going on the air is Weird or What , a new documentary series Shatner is co-producing an hosting. The show description press release make it sound a bit like Leonard Nimoy’s In Search Of :

in Weird or What? William Shatner will investigate and analyze all that is weird in the world, including everything from paranormal phenomena to weird and wonderful creatures, from medical oddities to mysterious disappearances, and bizarre natural disasters to mystical monster attacks.  

The show has been sold to Discovery Channel in the US and History Channel in Canada. Today Shatner is at the MIP TV convention in Cannes today selling  the show to the world. Variety reports that production company Cineflix has successfully sold the show to "nearly every territory". At the event Shatner described the show:

We’re looking at weird circumstances but we’re presenting them in a light-hearted, jaunty way. We’re not taking ourselves too seriously.

Chris Pine headed to Moscow as Jack Ryan

Last year Chris Pine, the new Kirk, was tapped as the new Jack Ryan, to head up another big Paramount franchise. New details have emerged on this next film based on the Tom Clancy character. Pajiba reports the following story synopsis for the next Jack Ryan film (now with the working title of "Moscow"):

The movie will pick up with the Jack Ryan not long after his stint in the Marines, before he’s joined the CIA, while he’s a Wall Street stock broker, an occupation that will play heavily into the script. In the Clancy novels, Jack Ryan was a successful financial analyst in Baltimore for Merrill Lynch. In the new movie, he will have transplanted to Moscow to continue his financial advising, not for Merill Lynch (which has been absorbed by Bank of America), but for a billionaire employer. It is that billionaire employer who eventually sets Jack Ryan up to take the fall for terrorist plot designed to collapse the U.S. economy. After that, Ryan must race against time to clear his name, reveal the terrorist plot, and save his wife, who has been taken hostage by the billionaire employer.

No word yet on when "Moscow" will go in front of cameras or be released, but probably following Pine’s work on the next Star Trek .

Nimoy’s last day as an actor? + honored as space inspiration

Spock Prime, Leonard Nimoy has recently stated he is ready to back into acting retirement. This would mean his last job as an actor would be reprising his role as William Bell in the season finale  JJ Abrams’ Fringe . And yesterday, Nimoy tweeted " Finishing work on Fringe today. Really good experience. The two parter will air in May." Today he tweeted that his back home. Speaking of Twitter, in just four days TheRealNimoy has picked up almost 33,000 followers.

But Mr. Nimoy is still out and about. On Thursday Leonard is being honored by the Space Foundation at the National Space Symposium in Colorado. Nimoy is being presented with the Douglas S. Morrow Public Outreach award for being an inspiration to people around the world "to explore the wonders of science, space, and technology." And a reminder, next Friday the original Spock is headed to the Vulcan, Alberta, Canada (the official Star Trek capital of Canada) to unveil a bust of himself, and then he is off to the Calgary Entertainment Expo for the weekend.

Finally we come to the new Mr. Spock, Zachary Quinto. The actor is currently in New York  filling out his resume as a producer an actor in Margin Call , a film set in the world of the stock market. Last week Zach tweeted this pic of himself with his Before the Door production company partners.

While he has been in New York, Quinto has been a frequent Twitterer, sending gems like this one last Thursday:

Star Trek Into Darkness Premieres In Moscow; Paris Up Next

The Star Trek Into Darkness world premiere road show just made its latest stop, this time in Russia. The film screened today, April 25, at the Planetarium in Moscow and, braving the rain to support the screening there were director J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Alice Eve.

Up next: Paris tomorrow and Berlin on April 29.
