The Wetterstein, Karwendel, Soiern and Ester mountains offer a paradise for mountain bikers of all skill-levels. Some of the most beautiful tours lead directly from the hotel to the spectacular Schachen Summer House of King Ludwig II, at 1800 m in the Wetterstein mountains; and through the indescribably beautiful Isar valley to the source of the Isar in the Karwendel mountains, via the Karwendelhaus at 1800 m, to magnificent Ahornboden. From April to November, two e-mountain bike tours take place every week with a guide. Up to 150 modern e-bikes are available at our bike station for an extra charge. Krün - Wallgau - Walchensee lake

A charming racing bike tour with a great view of Lake Walchensee. Before you can enjoy the view, you first have to work your way up the forest road and master the last section with a 20% incline. Difficulty: medium

Hallerangeralm

At 1768 m (5800 ft), the sun terrace of the Hallerangerhaus invites you to linger and offers a spectacular panorama of the Speckkarspitze and Lafatscher mountains. Challenging sections are rewarded with a great view. Difficulty: difficult

Schachenschloss Castle

From Schloss Elmau, head towards the parking lot for hikers, then follow Schachenweg trail to Wetterstein Alm. From here, a more challenging bike ride takes you along the old trail to Schachen Castle, a technical section that is not to be underestimated, especially on the way down. Difficulty: difficult

Bike tour past Fischbachalm in the direction of Soiernhaus, then 30 minutes from the cargo cable car to the Soiern lakes and the very well-run Soiernhaus. Hosts Susanne and Klaus are known for their excellent cuisine. The pristine natural surroundings invite you to linger. Difficulty: medium

FOUR LAKES CIRCUIT

Directly from Schloss Elmau, bike past Lakes  Ferchensee and Lautersee to the picturesque mountain village of Mittenwald. From here, the trail leads across the Buckelwiesen hummocky meadows to Lake Barmsee, and on to the warmest lake in the area – Lake Geroldsee – before heading back to Elmau via the toll road. Difficulty: easy

Esthergebirge circuit

Long tour around the Esthergebirge, with views of Lake Walchensee including the surrounding mountain peaks, then heading back through remote Eschenlaine valley via Garmisch. Eschenlohe’s restaurateurs invite you to take a rest in shady beer gardens. Difficulty: medium

Elmauer Alm

Beautiful tour via Eckbauer to Elmauer Alm with panoramic views of the Zugspitze, Alpspitze, Wetterstein Mountains, Karwendel Mountains, and the Elmau Valley. Difficulty: medium

Großer Ahornboden

Spectacular round trip through the Isar valley into the Karwendel mountains (90 km), with 600-year-old maple stands along the way. Difficulty: difficult

WETTERSTEIN-Circuit

Schloss Elmau, Hintergraseck, Garmisch, Grainau, Ehrwald, Leutasch, Schloss Elmau. Explore the pristine nature of the Wetterstein mountains with varied views of the mountain and plant world. With a detour to neighboring Austria, this tour takes about 4 hours. Difficulty: medium

Kranzberg Tour

Friday: Directly from Schloss Elmau, the panoramic mountain bike tour leads on little used paths to the summit of the Kranzberg mountain. Difficulty: medium

The route leads through unique natural areas, in front of the spectacular backdrop of the Wetterstein range , to the famous and picturesque palace on the Schachen .

Tour description

This special mountain bike tour starts in the center of Mittenwald, with a ride to the Lautersee and Ferchensee lakes, below the Wetterstein mountains. The so-called "Bannholzweg" trail begins directly beyond the Ferchensee lake and leads up to the Wetterstein alpine hut, at 1,464 meters. Shortly before the traditional alpine hut, the Schachenweg branches to the right and takes bikers first to the Schachentor and then to the King's House. After visiting the palace and recovering at the Schachenhaus lodge, the descent leads from the palace back down to the Wetterstein alpine hut and then past the Schloss Elmau and Schloss Kranzbach palace hotels to Klais. A short climb leads up to the popular "Goas-Alm" alpine hut, before the descent leads back to Mittenwald through the famous Mittenwald Buckelwiesen "hummock meadows."

• Advantage of going anti-clockwise: Take the train (with your bike) to Ehrwald and then on the way back spend some time at Lake Eibsee and at the Eibsee Pavilion restaurant.

Zugspitze round tour (1,600m)

• The route quickly descends to Ehrwald on a partially tarmacked forest road and then continues comfortably downriver to Garmisch.
• Refreshments: Tirolerhaus
• Häselgehr waterfall
• Take the train to Ehrwald (with your bike) and/or the Ehrwald Alm cable car (with your bike)
• Refreshments: Gaistalalm or Tillfussalm

Wank round tour (1,300m)

• Steep ascent

Lake Plansee (975m) – Ettal Monastery

• Clockwise: Take the Ettal state road to Oberau or alternatively the old Ettaler-Straße road (auxiliary road for bicycles)
