This crew and operation is top notch!!! We saw breaching whales, dolphin pods, sea turtles, and reef fish when snorkeling. You can see different sea life at different times of the year - whale season from November to March is fantastic!!! The crew made sure people were safe and got to see as much as possible. They were knowledgeable and informative and made the trip FUN with their cute little jokes!!!

The guides gave us plenty of instruction and assistance on and off the boat. That had a lot to tell us about Hawaii and the local Flora/fauna. They were super helpful with all the equipment and made sure to tell us where to watch and when. On our trip we got to see a humpback whale, sea turtles, loads of fish, and a very impressive amount of dolphins. Would absolutely attend again.

We were a group of 8 and everyone had a great time! We had teenage grandchildren with us who had never been to Hawaii and they were so impressed. I am not a water person and did not plan to get in the water. I felt so comfortable that I decided to give it a try. So I got in the ocean for the first time in about 20 years! I am so glad I did as Veronica made sure I was OK and comfortable and kept an eye on me. Thank you Veronica! I would definitely go out with them again. Oahu Dolphin Divers offers dolphin watching and snorkeling tours from Waianae Small Boat Harbor on the island of Oahu. During the whale watching season, which peaks January to March, we also offer whale watching excursions.

Oahu Dolphin Divers’ vessel, the South Seas II, is a 38’ Delta located at Pier C in Waianae Small Boat Harbor. There is no physical office in the harbor. Guests will meet the boat in the harbor (parking is free) at either the entrance to Pier C or at the commercial loading ramp.

Our business on West Coast Oahu began in the ’80s with the purchase of a boat by Ken Taylor, as a way to lure his son Mike Taylor back to the islands. Since then, it has changed hands a few times most recently to the owner of both Island Divers Hawaii and Honolulu Scuba Company on the east and south shores of Oahu respectively, Matthew Zimmerman.

What never changes is the beauty of the west side of Oahu. Because of the island’s trade wind weather coming out of the northeast, the west side of the island has the most consistent and calm oceans on the islands and the very best weather for snorkeling tours. If you are staying in Ko Olina, you should definitely come up the coast for a visit, and if you are in Waikiki, it is worth the one-hour drive out to explore this beautiful coastline.

Welcome aboard our state-of-the-art new boat!

Docked in the heart of West Oahu, our ship –  Ariya –  has two decks, surround-sound, an expansive bow and two bathrooms!  

E'Ho Mai Ceremony

We will begin our boat ride by reciting a Hawaiian chant called, “ E’ho mai “.  It is a prayer to the gods of the sea for a safe trip with plentiful dolphins.

Filled with the Aloha Spirit, our “locally grown” crew members are all masters of the sea!  Each is CPR, First-Aid and LifeSaver licensed.

Watch Dolphins in the Wild!

We will cruise the West Side in search of dolphins. As the name implies, Spinner Dolphins are known for their acrobatic spinning skills and long snouts. 

The time we spend watching the dolphins varies with many factors, but usually is around 15-30 minutes. The dolphins often will “bow-ride” and surf along with the boat afterwards, too! This dolphin encounter will be an experience you will never forget!

Prepare to snorkel

It’s time to put on our snorkel gear! Our complimentary mask, and life jacket will make your experience in the water fun and safe.  

For those who would like a wet suit, they are available to rent on the bus.

Breath-taking Snorkeling

After watching the dolphins, we continue on to one of the best coral reefs in Hawaii!

Hawaii is home to multiple dolphin species, including spotted dolphins, bottlenose dolphins and the more commonly seen spinner dolphins.

Though you may be able to spot dolphins from land on a clear day, or you might get lucky and see some while snorkeling at a public beach, a boat cruise is without a doubt the best way to get the true dolphin experience in Hawaii. Here’s why:

From land, it’s not possible to get as close to dolphins as you would on a boat. Spinner dolphins enjoy ‘surfing’ along the waves created by a boat, so it’s very common to see dolphins cruise right next to a boat.

• Chevron down What are the minimum guest requirements for participating in a Dolphin Quest program?

Our goal is to make all encounters safe and exciting for the dolphins and guests, so we have some basic requirements for all participants:

• Participants must be able to follow directions and instructions provided by the program trainer and other Dolphin Quest Crew Members.
• Participants must be able to move about freely within the water environment.
• Guests must be comfortable in the water and be able to manage their movements as instructed in and around the animals while wearing required water safety gear.
• Participants must be able to physically move from one location to another by walking in sand, climbing stairs, walking across floating platforms, crossing slippery and uneven surfaces both in and out of the water, and be able to transition between standing and sitting positions.
• Local weather conditions vary, so individuals should be able to handle heat, humidity, direct sun exposure, wind, and heavy rain.
• Participants can expect to be around large marine mammals as well as other marine animals within the natural environment. Dolphin Quest has an exemplary safety record. There is still inherent risk in and around the dolphin habitat as a natural ocean environment.
• Guests under the age of five are restricted from participating in our standard encounter programs. However, we do offer the Wee Family, Fins & Fun as well as our popular private programs where children of all ages can participate. Please call us at (808) 739-8918 for more information.
• Participants may be denied the opportunity to participate or to continue participation in a dolphin interaction or education program should their actions be of a safety concern or are a disruption to others.

• Any cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled program time will be charged the full price of the scheduled program.
• Any rescheduling made within 48 hours of the scheduled program time will be charged an additional re-booking fee of $75 per guest.

Reservations for 7 or more participants:

• There are no fees or penalties for cancellations/rescheduling made two weeks prior to the scheduled program time, and a full refund will be issued.
• Any cancellations within two weeks of scheduled program time will be charged the full price of the scheduled program.

Check-in time for all programs* is 30 minutes prior to the scheduled program start time.

• *For the Marine Mammal Specialist for a Day program, you may check in the day before during normal business hours (8:30am to 5:00 pm HST).
• For morning programs, the earliest check-in time is 8:30 a.m. HST.
• Please check in at the Dolphin Quest kiosk located next to the dolphin lagoon for all programs.

Yes, changing areas and lockers are available for use.

• We offer complimentary and secure lockers near the Dolphin Quest kiosk for Dolphin Quest participants.
• There are restrooms located next to the pool area at the Kahala for use as a changing area.
• It is suggested, if possible, to come to Dolphin Quest with your swimsuit on and ready to go into the water.
• You may wear sunscreen while in the water, and we encourage you to use ocean-safe products.
• An outdoor, freshwater shower is available for program guests to use.
• Dolphin Quest is not liable for lost or stolen items.

No. Dolphin Quest does not provide towels, so we ask our guests to bring their own.

Yes. Please contact Dolphin Quest Oahu directly at the Dolphin Quest check-in desk during our normal business hours from 8:30am to 5pm HST daily.

Personal cameras and GoPros are not permitted in our program areas.

• However, someone with you who is not doing the program may take pictures or video your interaction from the spectator side of the ropes and railings.
• You may also take pictures of our animals before or after your program from the spectator side of the ropes and railings.
• Dolphin Quest’s photographers will be taking posed and candid photos throughout your program.

Your program photos are available for pre-order or as a post-program purchase.

• In September of 2021, NOAA Fisheries announced the protection of Hawaiian spinner dolphins and prevent their disturbance. This rule prohibits swimming with, approaching, or remaining within 50 yards of a Hawaiian spinner dolphin (for persons, vessels, and objects).

We begin as Nai’a I departs from Waianae Boat Harbor and travels along the scenic west coast in search of spinner dolphins. Take some of the most incredible photographs of your vacation as the spinners come to visit you and perform their superb aerial stunts.

Few people have the opportunity to see these spectacular displays. Passively observing Spinner Dolphins while in the water is one of our goals. We follow guidelines that are dictated by Federal Law protecting these animals. We will make sure you observe these animals under an eco friendly leadership giving you a safe open ocean safari you will remember.

We will also snorkel at sites with Hawaiian Sea Turtles and tropical fish. Occasionally, we encounter Bottlenose and Spotted dolphins too. During the winter months, we may even get to see a Humpback Whale or two or several. Our Oahu excursions are led by seasoned island naturalists with years of experience on the Waianae Coast.

What To Expect

• Only 15 guests per tour!  Plenty of room to relax.
• View multiple species of wild dolphins year round  and humpback whales in the winter.
• Take incredible photographs of marine life.
• See dolphins, tropical fish, and sea turtles.
• Please feel free to pack your own food and beverages. BYOB!
• Snorkel gear is provided, but bringing your own is encouraged.  You may also purchase a brand new set to take home with you.

Private Charters are a flat rate. Unlike public charters, there is no age limit. To book a private charter there must be no other pervious reservations already made for the date and time you desire. First come first serve since we only have one boat. So book well in advance if you are looking to book a private charter!

• Snorkel gear:  Gear is provided, but bringing your own gear is recommended at this time.  You may also purchase your own set to take home with you. Mask (prescription   masks available), snorkel, fins, and a life vest.   Wet suits   are available to rent for $10.00 at check-in.

COVID-19 Precautions

Everyone is required to wear a mask at check in . On the boat they are optional. Temperature is taken and recorded, including all staff and boat crew. If any guest feels sick 24 hours with in their departure time and day , they may cancel with out penalty. Our 24 hour cancellation policy will be waived under this circumstance to ensure there is no pressure to attend to avoid cost. To keep future patrons and our crew safe, we will require at least a 10 day quarantine before booking with us again. If re-booking with us before 10 days are up, the entire cancelled party must be prepared to show proof of a negative test dated after the cancelled tour date. We only allow one booking group at a time inside our check in area . Once they receive their gear, they will exit through a different door to minimize contact with other booking couples or groups. The waiting area before and after check in is an outside spacious and shaded area with a bench for seating. Quarantine restriction check, please present one of the following: RESIDENTS: Make sure you bring your State ID or Military ID to show at check in. Utility bill or paystub with your name and Hawaiian address will also work. ISLAND GUESTS – 10 DAY QUARANTINE COMPLETION: Please have a copy of your itinerary with your name, the airlines emblem and date of arrival to HNL airport. If it is an email, the from address must be affiliated with an airline or travel site. ISLAND GUESTS – ALTERNATE, PRE-TESTING PROGRAM: If you follow the procedures of the 72 hour pre-travel testing protocol, please provide your negative test results with the collection date falling with in the 72 hour period of your arrival date into Honolulu. RESIDENTS and ISLAND GUESTS – VACCINATION CARD WITH MATCHING PHOTO ID. If you have your vaccination card, then bring it with you along with a photo ID. IF THE GOVERNOR LIFTS THESE RESTRICTIONS BY THE TIME YOU JOIN US, THEN WE WILL LIFT THESE REQUIREMENTS. There may be an alternate restriction is that case in which we will contact you if any other paperwork is needed. *If you have neither of these items of proof, you will be denied tour access for the safety of our other passengers and our crew. Gear maintenance: * Life Vests: Soaked and continuously dunked in a special shampoo specifically branded for cleaning wet suits, which have similar textile properties as life vests. Life Vests are left to dry naturally in the UV warmth of the sun. * Fins: Soaked and scrubbed in a solution of bleach and liquid detergent, then rinsed in water and laid out in the UV warmth of the sun to dry. * Masks and Snorkels: Soaked and scrubbed in a solution of bleach and liquid detergent, then rinsed in water. Both are then soaked for at least one minute in our Steramine sterilizing solution and kept inside to dry naturally. Once dry, each set is placed in a lidded, secure plastic container. This ensures that the masks and snorkel sets are not touched again after the sterilizing process until the next guest is presented the mask from the container for their own use. Before or after the tour, guests are welcome to order food and beverages from Spinners Cafe with a 10% discount. The cafe has a take out window to go or enjoy there with outside seating properly distanced. Guests may also bring their own food and beverages onto the vessel that will be kept in their own coolers, back packs or beach bags.

This was our favorite experience during our two weeks in Hawaii. Great friendly crew, good lunch. The whole thing felt relaxed and lovely. We went snorkeling and we saw a turtle. This really made us happy. The pick up from the hotel was also very good.

Sea Life Park’s Dolphin Encounter is one of the top dolphin encounter experiences on O’ahu . You will interact with our pod from a waist-deep platform and spend time with our expert animal trainers to learn what it takes to care for our dolphin family. Learn about their habitat, physiology, and conservation, and walk away with a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Participants will have hands-on fun and an exciting experience interacting with the dolphins and learning from our animal care professionals. The entirety of this program is performed on a shallow water platform and does not include any deep water portion or free swimming with the animals.

One individual (non-group) photo per participant is included with your dolphin experience! A value of $35! There’s no better or more memorable way to top off your family vacation in Hawaii than with a dolphin encounter at Sea Life Park!

Programs Requirements:

• It is REQUIRED you arrive one hour before the start of your reserved program. If you are late or fail to arrive for check-in you will not be able to participate in the activity and there will be no refunds.
• Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance. If cancellations are made less than 48 hours prior, or your party is a "no show", you will be charged for the full amount.
• No jewelry is permitted when participating in the Dolphin Encounter program. This includes, but is not exclusive to, necklaces, bracelets, hats, glasses, sunglasses, hair ties, rings, wedding rings, piercings, 3D nail art, etc. All items must be removed prior to participating in the Dolphin Encounter program. If you are unable or unwilling to remove any of these items, you will not be able to participate in the program, and no refund will be issued. No exceptions. This policy is for the safety and well-being of our resident animals.
• Each child 4-7 years old must be accompanied in the water by a paying adult, 18 years of age or older. One paid adult per child is required.
• Due to the physical nature of this activity, pregnant women are NOT allowed to participate in this program
• Bring your own towel and swimwear. Changing facilities are available.
• Use only biodegradable sunscreen (available in our gift shop) to protect the animals and their environment
• The use of safety vests is required for all participants and will be provided to participants
