Dress appropriately for the weather.

  • Comfortable clothes are recommended. We zip line rain or shine so wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet or sweaty. You will be wearing a harness that goes around your waist and thighs so we recommend wearing clothes that will cover those areas. Short shorts and tube tops are not recommended. Please wear shorts under dresses or skirts. Wear layers in cold weather.

Secure long hair.

  • You don’t want hair to get tangled in the equipment. Helmets are required, so a low ponytail, bun, or braid is the most comfortable. It is permitted to wear thin bandanas, beanies, or other head coverings under your helmet.

Glasses and sunglasses can be worn.

  • If you plan on taking them off during the tour, we recommend a strap. They may break if you put them in your pocket.

Do not wear loose articles of clothing, dangling jewelry, or large hoop earrings.

We have years of experience, and our guides are all CPR, Wilderness First Aid, and High Ropes Rescue trained. We meet or exceed all ACCT and PRCA guidelines. You will not find a safer or more experienced zip line canopy tour course in the United States (besides our other locations). Guaranteed!

Our course uses the Vertical Trek Innovations Continuous Belay System which allows for seamless transitioning between zip lines, bridges, high rope elements, platforms, and much more all while maintaining a life-rated connection. • Post category: North America / The Best
  • Post comments: 0 Comments

The United States is vast and full of mountain ranges. However, on most of these mountains, there is no snow for several months out of the year which raises the question of “what exactly do you do on a mountain with no snow?”

The answer is ziplining and it’s quite possibly the best mountain adventure you can have without putting on a pair of skis. But, ziplines come in all shapes and sizes and there are plenty of unique ziplines off the mountain, too. The US has multitudes of adrenaline-pumping adventures suited to all ages and abilities. But, with 50 states and so many ziplines to choose from, here are 20 across the country that you definitely don’t want to miss out on!

Camelback Mountain Adventures

Tannersville, pennsylvania.

Camelback Mountain Adventures, located in the lush Pocono Mountains, is home to North America’s longest twin zip lines. The Soaring Camel Twin Zip Flyers are 4,000 feet long and take you speeding over the ski slopes of the resort and the waterslides of Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark for 90 breathtaking seconds at a top speed of 60 miles per hour. The Twin Zip Flyers start at the summit of Camelback Mountain and you and your closest friend can race all the way to the base of the mountain. Camelback Mountain is located only two hours from New York City and is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Skyline Eco Adventures

Haleakala, maui, hawaii.

Not only is Skyline Haleakala rated one of the best zipline courses in the US, it’s been recognized as being one of the best in the world! Located in the Haleakala National Park on the Hawaiian island of Maui, their Adventure Tour will take you soaring over 90-foot drops and canyons while the fragrance of eucalyptus trees fills the air. This 90-minute tour consists of 5 ziplines, an Indiana Jones-style swinging bridge, and Hawaii’s only pendulum line that reaches speeds of up to 45 miles per hour. Learn about Hawaii’s ecosystem as your guide leads you on an adrenaline-charged tour through the Haleakala Forest.

New York Zipline Adventure Tours

Hunter, new york.

New York Zipline Adventure Tours at Hunter Mountain lays claim that it is the longest, highest, and fastest zipline canopy tour in North American and the second largest zipline in the world! Ride the SkyRider Tour, the second longest zipline in the world, for 4.6 miles through the Catskill Mountains from peak to peak at speeds that reach a whopping 50 miles per hour. This incredible tour lasts 3 hours. For another tremendous experience, take their Night Zipping Tour. Although it’s not on their longest course, it is totally worth getting to experience ziplining through the mountains by the light of the moon. This stunning family friendly experience also lasts about 3 hours.

Smoky Mountain Ziplines

Pigeon forge, tennessee.

Soar through the skies on over 4,200 feet of cable through Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains with Smoky Mountain Ziplines. Two parallel 3,300 feet zip lines send you whizzing down 525 feet at breakneck speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. The Blue Streak is open year-round, although it’s a little cooler going 50 miles per hour when temperatures are already nearing freezing. A summer ride is much more enjoyable but whenever you choose to ride, the views of sparkling Lake Tahoe and the dominating surrounding mountains are sublime.

During the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and during the spring and fall on Fridays, kids from 10-17 fly for free with a paying adult.

Mega Zips at Mega Cavern

Louisville, kentucky.

Mega Zips at Mega Cavern in Louisville, Kentucky is probably the most unique zipline tour in the US. This adventure features six ziplines and two challenge bridges. But, the coolest part is that they are all underground! You read that right. It’s the world’s only zipline course that is completely underground. Mega Cavern is a 100-acre man-made cavern made out of a 19 th century limestone quarry. The cavern has over 17 miles of underground passageways beneath the City of Louisville. A 2.5-hour zipline tour, with speeds of up to 45 miles per hour and giant spotlights so you can see your shadow as you whiz by, is surely one you will never forget!

Located in San Luis Obispo County in sunny California, Margarita Adventures has the perfect way to “Zip ‘n Sip.” Soar on six ziplines over valleys, towering oaks, mountainsides, and best of all—Pinot Noir vineyards. Opt in for the post-zipline tour wine tasting at the neighboring Ancient Peaks Winery to top-off your experience. But it’s more than zipline and wine. You’ll get a guided ziplines tour out to the historic Santa Margarita Ranch. Learn about sustainable winegrowing and local wildlife. A 2.5-hour tour with over 7,500 total feet of zipline, you will feel like you deserve a glass of wine at the end for your unwavering bravery!

Canopy Tours NW Zipline Adventures

Camano island, washington.

Canopy Tours NW is a family affair! Mr. Kristoferson bought the farm back in 1912 to raise dairy cows. But, today half of the 230-acre property is dedicated to producing certified organic lavender and hay while the other half is a forest that produces an organic, one-of-a-kind good time! 5 generations of Kristoferson’s have run the dairy farm turned zipline adventures course. This 2-hour course will take you over six zip lines, including the state’s second longest, of 660 feet for unbeatable mountain views. While a zipline course on a farm seems a bit far-fetched, the Kristoferson’s feel that it fits their mission of low-impact development and sustainability perfectly.

Summer Activity

Experience the mountains like never before, soaring above treetops and taking in views of the Flathead Valley and beyond!

Our longest line spans 1,900 feet — over a third of a mile! Each span has two zip lines running side by side, so you can race your friends or family between platforms. The tour lasts about two hours and involves a moderate amount of hiking. Each tour is led by two friendly guides who will ensure you're safe and secure in your harness before each ride. If the exhilarating ride doesn't take your breath away, the views certainly will.

Looking for even more adventure? Book a Zip Line Tour Activity Package , which includes the zip lines, a round-trip Scenic Lift Ride ticket and three rides on our Alpine Slides! The package is valid for two days so you can spread out the fun.

First time zip lining since and I'm afraid of heights. YIKES! My family and I decided to do the Big Cliff Canyon. Yes the Big Cliff Canyon! Reluctantly, I did it and am so glad I did. I had such a blast! Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and kept us entertained. What an adventure! Would definitely recommend.

Updating this review after enjoying the Big Cliff Canyon 9 Zip Tour. This tour was a heart-racing, laugh-out-loud, ear-to-ear smiling experience from start to finish. The verdant, panoramic scenery is stunning, with breathtaking aerial views from refreshingly higher elevations than are available throughout most of the state. The zip lines are logically ordered, progressing from mild speeds and shorter lengths to vast, high-speed flyovers above deep blue water. Safety protocol and instruction are taken seriously, but in a manner that leaves plenty of room for fun and provides tour guests the opportunity to enjoy the zip lines in whichever way they consider the most fun and comfortable, from regular seated positions to adventurous inversions. Groups are kept to just the right sizes to ensure participants are not subjected to long wait times between zip lines. However, the single greatest contributor to this unforgettable experience is undeniably the guides, Ryan and Sam. They are the dream team, and they exemplify every quality one could hope for in a guide - approachability, attention to detail, helpfulness, professionalism, strong senses of humor, and most importantly, a desire to ensure everyone has fun. It is hard to imagine returning for further zip lining unless this pair is leading my group!

Horseback riding with Canyons Zip Line & Canopy Tours was a seamless and memorable experience! The staff was well-prepared and provided clear information before and upon arrival. Our guide Morgan displayed a highly approachable personality, expansive knowledge about and compassion for the horses, superior situational humor, and many additional qualities that amounted to an engaging tour. The horses are so gentle, funny, and sweet, each with his or her own unmistakable personality. We rode lovable paint quarter horses named Pogo and Travis, both of whom were determined, peaceful, and so fun to interact with throughout the journey. The staff members are keenly aware of each horse's attributes, and they take great care when matching them with riders to ensure compatible sizing and comfort for riders and horses. They also take care to ensure your place in line is in front of or behind anyone in your party so you can enjoy their presence even in a larger group. There is no need for previous riding experience, as the ride occurs at a gentle walking pace with the guides providing helpful instructions up-front and throughout the ride. However, the slow pace amplifies the excitement because it affords you the ability to enjoy stunning aerial views of the St. Johns river far below the cliffs. Melodic birdsongs and the fleeting sight of zipliners suspended overhead as you ride through verdant pastures complete the magic of this marvelous adventure on which you should definitely embark!

What a blast. My brother wanted to do some kind of zip lining and he picked this place. We had a very long drive so we left the night before and got a hotel. I recommend going first thing in the morning and the the biggest course. It's worth it. Plus in Florida it gets super hot as the day goes the staff are super friendly. We got Mary & Jarvis. They were fun & funny. Our group were good group of people. We took my 9 year nieces she was a tiny thing but she was able to zip line she made the cut. She was fearless. The only downside were the photo. The photographer are not that great. Tip: Bring some cash so you can tip zip liner staff that are helping you throughout the course and making sure your safe and having fun.

We had PJ and Joe as our tour guides they were super amazing and knowledgeable, they also kept the mood alive by making all kinds of jokes. They have such high energy too. As a matter of fact all guides did, but they were by far the best I would recommend and to there again.

Had so much fun. Note: this place is not for the faint-hearted, but if you're into adventure this is a must-try!! The guide was very knowledgeable and kind. Tried horseback riding and zipline here with my husband. Can't say enough words. Will be back for sure!

Ben and Jeremy were amazing, funny and hype us all 9 zipline s. It was a rainy day, super cold and they made the experience really good! Will be back!

Had a blast zip lining with my family on this course. We had a great staff of two that took us to the different posts and taught us how to zip line correctly. They were friendly, fun and informative. The scenery was beautiful, and we felt safe the entire time. Definitely recommend booking online to reserve your spot. We didn't realize they also do horseback rides so we will be back to experience that.

After reading the participant requirements and FAQs on their website, we decided to book for my 16 and 9 1/2 year old daughter. After driving for TWO hours, we get a call saying my 9 1/2 year old can't zipline without an adult. The website specifically says "approximately 10 years old and 70lb". She meets this requirement. The website also says that a parent must accompany their child and sign the waiver. It DOES NOT SAY the parent must zipline with the child. When we arrived, there is totally different signage in the building. Apparently THIS is what they go by and not what is on their website. Had we known this, or had they taken time to UPDATE THEIR WEBSITE, we never would have booked with them. They refused to give us our money back claiming a zero refund policy and then told us we could pay $15 for a raincheck or that one of us could pay another $100 to zipline with them. TOTAL MONEY GRAB all because they can't update a website. The manager was less than helpful with her "don't give a crap" attitude and she thought she was doing us a favor by waiving the raincheck fee. This will be the absolute LAST time we will be there and we will NOT recommend this business to anyone as their false advertising of rules and money grab attitude is totally unacceptable.

Signage on premises which contradicts their website. UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE!

What an amazing adventure! I was a little worried as I have never zip lined and we decided to take my Girl Scout troop on a road trip full of adventures and this was our first stop. Our guides were CJ and Rachel who were both just great. They checked in often to make sure we were comfortable and had encouraging words at going and coming in. We did the 9 zip course. The way they have you do a couple of shorter zips to start is such a great way to get over the fear and learn to trust the equipment. I had an amazing time zipping across the trees then across multiple bodies of water. It was an amazing time that I encourage anyone to give a try- it's not as scary as it may seem! We had a girl as young as 8 go (she met the weight requirement). I plan on going back with my family for an amazing time!

Do You Tip on Zip Line Adventures and How Much?

You just finished an amazing zipline adventure. Should you tip the guides? If so, how much is appropriate? This article explains if and how much to tip for ziplining. It gives tips based on group size, tour length, and service quality.

For zip line tours, it's customary to tip guides 10-20% of the tour cost. If the tour is $100, a tip of $10 to $20 per guide is appropriate, depending on the quality of the experience and service.

Tipping Customs

  • Expressing gratitude through tipping is customary after a zip line adventure.
  • A proper tip reflects the quality of service and your group's experience.
  • The tip amount varies, but generally aligns with standard service industry guidelines.

zip line tour guide

On this page:

Tipping on adventure activities, determining tip amounts, understanding tipping basics, tipping methods and considerations, tipping for group adventures, common tipping challenges, tips beyond money.

When embarking on an adventure activity like ziplining, understanding the etiquette of tipping your zipline guides can enhance their motivation and acknowledge their dedication.

Tipping Zip Line Guides

Zipline guides are an essential part of your adventure experience, providing not only instruction but also ensuring your safety and enjoyment. Like others in the service industry , a tip is a way to say thanks for a job well done . It's customary to consider the level of service, the length of your tour, and the size of your family or group when deciding how much to tip .

  • Standard Tipping Amount: Generally, aiming for 15 to 20 percent of the cost of the adventure is a good rule of thumb, aligning with practices in other service-based interactions.
  • Per Guide Tip: If you're wondering about an individual figure, an average tip per guide ranges at approximately $20 per person .
  • Group Tipping: For a family or group, a collective tip can be given. A typical family might leave around $50, equating to about $25 per guide for a family of four.

Remember that a generous tip is not just monetary compensation; it's a signal of appreciation for the guide's hard work and contribution to your adventure experience.

When planning your zip lining adventure, it's important to understand how gratuities work in this unique sector of the service industry. Deciding on the appropriate tip amount for your zip line guide involves a few key considerations.

Factors Influencing Tip Size

Experience Quality: The overall quality of the zip lining experience, including safety briefings, equipment handling, and the guide's interaction with you, can greatly influence the tip size. If your guide enhanced your adventure with exceptional service, a larger tip is a nice gesture of appreciation.

Guideline Adherence: While the service industry often suggests a 15 to 20 percent tip range, this percentage depends on your level of satisfaction with the zip line tour.

How Much to Tip Zip Line Guides

Industry Standard: The consensus in the industry is leaning towards a tip that falls within the range of 15 to 20 percent of the total cost of the experience. For example, if the charge for your zip line tour is $100, a tip of $15 to $20 is considered appropriate.

Payment Method: You'll typically have the option to tip in cash or by credit card , with cash often being the preferred method for guides due to immediate access. However, make sure to keep your cash in a secure place like a money belt during your adventure, especially since zip lining involves a lot of movement.

Remember, tipping your zip line guide is a personal choice and should align with your satisfaction and budget.

When you're on an adventure like zip lining, understanding how to show appreciation to your guide through a tip can enhance their livelihood and reflect your satisfaction with the experience.

Tipping Etiquette and Culture

In the context of zip lining, the tipping culture leans towards a gratuitous gesture for the instructor's effort. A typical range is between 15 and 20 percent of the cost of the zip line tour. It's important to consider that many zip line guides may earn a minimum wage and rely on tips to supplement their income. Therefore, if your guide delivers exceptional service, tipping at the higher end can make a substantial difference.

When you're zip lining, tipping is a way to show appreciation for your guides. The method you choose and how satisfied you are with the service can influence the tip you give.

Cash vs. Digital Payments

Cash: It's often preferred because it's straightforward and doesn't require any app or technology. You can simply hand it to your guide after the adventure. Tip guidelines suggest that a standard rate is often between 15% and 20% of the cost of the experience.

Digital Payments: Services like Venmo or credit card transactions may be accepted, depending on the zip line company's policies. These can be convenient if you prefer not to carry cash. Always check beforehand if your guides can accept digital tips.

Service Satisfaction Impact

Your level of satisfaction with the service should be reflected in your tip. If your guide was exceptional, providing safety, entertaining stories, and great instructions, acknowledging their effort with an appropriate tip is a generous gesture. Conversely, if your expectations are not met, it's acceptable to tip less than the standard rate. Remember, though, that zip line guides often rely on tips as a significant part of their income, similar to workers in restaurants, hotels, or driving services.

When you're ziplining with a group, whether it's your family or a bunch of friends, tipping can sometimes feel confusing. It's important to know how to adjust your tips appropriately to ensure that your guides are fairly compensated for their dedicated service during your group adventure.

Adjusting Tips for Large Parties

For groups, especially when it includes a family with children or a larger party , a flat rate tip might be more appropriate than a per-person amount. It's common to see an average tip of around $20 per person for a zip line tour guide. However, if you have a family of four , consider tipping a total of $50 , which breaks down to about $25 per guide if there are two guides. Remember, this figure may vary based on the service provided; excellent guidance warrants a generous tip.

When you're part of a large group , the overall expense may increase, but it's still important to recognize the effort of your guides . Your gratuity reflects the value you place on their expertise and the risk they undertake for your safety and enjoyment. If opting for a percentage-based tip, aim for 15% to 20% of the total cost of the adventure. It’s a straightforward way to calculate and ensures equity among the guides who facilitated your experience.

When you're soaring through the skies on a zip line adventure, figuring out how much to tip your guide can be as tricky as navigating the heights. Understanding the subtleties of tipping can enhance your experience and show appreciation for your guide's expertise.

Navigating Tipping When Traveling

Traveling brings the joy of exploring new heights and cultures, and with it comes the complexity of different tipping etiquette . When you're ziplining in a foreign country, it's crucial to research customary practices, as they can vary widely. In some places, a generous tip signifies warmth and gratitude; in others, it might be seen as an excessive gesture. Always consider the local culture and customs before deciding on the amount.

Addressing Tipping Anxiety

Tipping can create a sense of anxiety , especially when you're uncertain about the appropriate amount. Here's a simple guideline:

  • Excellent Service: If your zip line guide went above and beyond, a tip of $20 to $25 per guide can express your appreciation effectively.
  • Group Tipping: If traveling with others, agree on a collective amount to avoid under-tipping due to confusion.

Remember, while tipping is a part of the service industry , it's also a personal choice reflective of your experience and satisfaction. Your tip is not just monetary; it's a personal "thank you" for a memorable ride.

When you've experienced an exhilarating zip line adventure, expressing your gratitude extends beyond monetary tips . Your zip line guides, who ensure an enjoyable and safe experience, appreciate different forms of appreciation as much as they do financial rewards.

Alternative Ways to Show Appreciation

  • Personal Thank You : A heartfelt thank you at the end of your zip line tour can mean as much as a cash tip. Your words convey recognition of their hard work and dedication.
  • Feedback : Providing positive feedback directly to the guides or through online platforms supports their reputation and career growth. It also helps their service stand out in the industry.
  • Social Media Shoutout : Mention your guides in a social media post. Tagging the company and using hashtags can increase visibility for the guides' exceptional service.
  • Referrals : Recommend the service to friends and family. Word-of-mouth is powerful in the service industry and is a valuable form of appreciation.
  • Letters or Cards : A written note of thanks can be a treasured token of appreciation for a job well done . These personal touches often leave a lasting impression on guides.

Each of these gestures can help reinforce the value of the guides' effort and contribute to a positive work environment where their hard work is acknowledged and praised. Your show of gratitude will be remembered long after the day of adventure.

  • "The most spectacular experience!! Our guides were second to none! Loved every minute of the tour. I was very nervous at first and starting off on a few smaller ziplines made me hungry for the big ones. If I had time I would do it again today!! By far the best time I have had in Hawaii. Thanks for the incredible memories!"  - Julie from IL
  • "My girlfriend and I flew from Oahu over to the Big Island JUST for the Akaka Falls zip line, By the time the tour was over I would have flown from New York to Big island to do it again just for the day!! The experience is second to NONE. The zip line is amazing fun but the Service is BEYOND incredible you would think each tour guide or receptionist owns a part of the business the way they take ownership and make your experience incredible. Knowledge of an encyclopedia and kindness of someone who LOVES what they do! David and Michael Thank you for an experience that will never be forgotten!!"  - Miguel from CA
  • "This was our very first zipline and it was a great choice for us beginners. You start off very easy and progress to the 'big one'. I am very afraid of heights and pretty much turned white when I got to the very last line. I did it and was very happy I was able to do this. You will love Damien, one of the guides. You will have two guides. One guide will go first on each line and one stays behind until everyone has gone. My thanks to Andy for being an expert foot catcher on the last line. I would recommend this. One thing to prepare for. Hilo (pronounced HE-lo) is one of the wettest cities in the world for rain. Skyline prepares for this by having rain gear available for you. They even give you a bottle of water. One of the lines you get to have an apple banana - which are excellent! Book this. Have fun. The Big Island is a beautiful island to explore. "  - Jerry from MI
  • "Great experience! I can honestly say that I have conquered my fear of heights. All of the staff are great, and they really enjoy their job. Its not only a job for them, they do know how to connect with people (especially with those that are afraid). Thank you all for a wonderful experience."  - Claudia from NV

  • "I was a bit hesitant at first but I have to say that the staff and guides who took us on the trail and the zip lines were simply amazing; both Tony and Melliza were professional yet full of humor and fun. So, any nervousness was gone very quickly. I also liked the way they pace the activities. Finally, the experience of going from one end to the other and taking in the views was breathtaking. All in all I' highly recommend this activity. "  - Girish from CA
  • "My husband has been encouraging me to face my fears throughout our relationship, and I have always had a fear of flying/heights/falling/etc. He was unbelievably floored when I suggested ziplining on our honeymoon. After much research (Yelp, TripAdvisor, Facebook, safety records, etc) I decided to go with Skyline Eco-Adventures. I am SO glad I did. The guides are hilarious and keep the whole situation lighthearted. In fact, they asked for the "scared" people to come in front for the safety before the first line. And, of course, guess then who gets to go first when it comes to ziplining! I made my husband go first since it gave me motivation to go afterwards. It was such an exhilarating experience, and I am so glad that we did it. The craziest part is that to "go" you walk down stairs that just end into the tops of trees in the valley. Such a trip! I would highly recommend this for your next trip to Maui. Such a great experience!"  - Cheryl from IL
  • "Beautiful and breathtaking views, an adventure that gets your heart pumping and two awesome guides..what more can you ask for?! Thank you so much Mason, Keawe and Skyline Eco adventures for making this a fun, memorable and amazing birthday adventure/experience & for bringing out the "  - Christine from CA

How much do I tip my Zip Line Tour Guide?

Well of course, here at Zipline USA, we are dedicated to making sure that you are safe! Safety is our number one priority and our guides are here to make you feel safe and secure throughout your tour.

In the service industry it is customary to tip 15-20%. The adventure industry is very similar. Although guides greatly appreciate tips, they are not required. Tips are earned based on your overall experience here at Zipline USA.

You have a minimum of two guides on every tour. The average tip per zip-liner is $20. If you have a family of four the average tip is about $50. This means each guide, if they earned it, will be $25 per guide for your family. If you feel that the guides deserve more then go for it!

We know that family vacations can be costly and we want your experience to be the best. It is completely appreciated to just tip $5.

Remember, if you enjoyed your ZIP leave a TIP!
