Renowned fashion house Louis Vuitton unveiled its latest pre-fall collection, dubbed “Voyager,” in a dazzling show held at the Long Museum in Shanghai’s West Bund art district. BREAKING GROUND: Under pressure to sustain healthy growth for the second quarter of 2024, Louis Vuitton on Sunday went the extra mile in China with an experimental resee livestreaming on Xiaohongshu , bringing the platform’s fashion-loving audience up close with the latest items from the brand’s pre-fall 2024 collection shown days earlier in Shanghai, which included a landmark collaboration with  Sun Yitian , a Beijing-based artist known for her paintings of blown-up animals.

Most of the items are available for preorder on an online pop-up store on Xiaohongshu . Audiences can also make appointments online to discover the range in offline stores.

The event attracted more than 470,000 unique visitors, setting a record for luxury livestreaming on the popular social commerce platform. The pre-fall 2024 show, the first collection under Nicolas Ghesquière’s Voyager Show format, garnered more than 145 million views online worldwide.

This online experiment marks the first time that Vuitton has opened up the resee experience to a wider audience. Previously only a limited number of high-spending customers were invited to have first dibs on new items the day after the show.

From now until May 17, the date the pre-fall collection officially hits stores, the collection will be showcased in stores in Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Qingdao for affluent local customers to experience it in person.

Louis Vuitton , the anchor brand of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s fashion unit, performed a little better than the division average in the first quarter of 2024, according to the group’s chief financial officer Jean-Jacques Guiony during an earnings call.

The French  luxury  conglomerate said group sales fell 2 percent at actual exchange rates in the first quarter. Organic sales at LVMH’s key fashion and leather goods division were up 2 percent in the period.

China remained a key market for the group. Guiony said LVMH saw spending by Chinese customers rise 10 percent in the first quarter, though there was a shift to purchasing overseas.

Japan was a popular destination, where revenues jumped 32 percent as tourists took advantage of the weak yen, despite a series of price increases designed to level out price differentials.

While the business might take place outside of China, Chinese consumers still receive, consume and share fashion content on social media platforms like Weibo, WeChat and increasingly on Xiaohongshu, a platform that’s a combination of Instagram and TikTok, with a big focus on fashion and luxury.

The brand now has more than 500,000 followers on Xiaohongshu and has received more than 1.7 million likes for its posts. The hashtag LV, and its various forms, have had more than 5 billion views on the platform.

Louis Vuitton holds ‘Voyager’ fashion show in Shanghai

SHANGHAI — Louis Vuitton debuted its newly labeled “Voyager” traveling show in Shanghai on Thursday night, showing off asymmetric hemlines and boxy leather vests in the country that is one of the brand’s key markets.

More than 1,000 invitees, including international celebrities like Cate Blanchett and local stars such as Zhou Dongyu and Jackson Wang, took in the pre-fall collection designed by women’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière. (Watch the show here: https://tinyurl.com/4mvcftzf )

The show was held in the cavernous concrete expanse of the Atelier Deshaus-designed Long Museum, in the riverside West Bund art district. It included pieces made in collaboration with Beijing-based artist Sun Yitian, who painstakingly paints photographs of inflated plastic animals, including ducklings, cats, and rabbits. Reprints of her works were incorporated into the opening designs of the show.

In the days leading up to the show, images of Sun’s work popped up around Shanghai, China’s most international city, projected onto the exterior of malls and plastering walls in hip shopping and lifestyle districts.

For Louis Vuitton, the largest luxury brand in the LVMH stable, China continues to represent one of the world’s most important luxury opportunities, even as a broader economic slowdown and consumer malaise stymie growth.

LVMH said on Tuesday that year-on-year sales for the quarter ending in March rose 3% on an organic basis, but purchases by Chinese shoppers globally grew 10%.

Louis Vuitton is taking its ‘Voyager’ fashion show to Shanghai next spring, the latest global runway show unveiling under creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, after the French brand held its first pre-fall women’s show in Seoul last year.

According to WWD, the Louis Vuitton event is scheduled for April 18 at the Long Museum West Bund, a museum that blends traditional and contemporary Chinese art.

The Chinese event forms part of the newly established ‘Louis Vuitton Voyager Shows’ — an initiative that takes the French brand’s men’s and women’s pre-fall and cruise collections to different locations around the world — combining the locale’s native culture with the maison’s design signatures.

Following the upcoming Shanghai show, Louis Vuitton’s women’s pre-fall collection 2024 will be available in all Louis Vuitton stores worldwide May 17.

Last April, Louis Vuitton held its first pre-fall show in the Korean capital, Seoul, along the Jamsugyo Bridge, on Hangang River.

More recently, the Parisian brand’s pre-fall collection was staged last month in Hong Kong, as the luxury marque homes in the financial hub and shopping meccas post-Covid, in an attempt to propel luxury spending in the region and across Greater China.

In its most recent trading, parent company LVMH said organic sales for the third quarter inched forward just 1 percent for the three months ending September 30, to EUR 19.96 billion (USD 21.17 billion).

While organic revenues in Asia excluding Japan were up 11 percent in the third quarter, figures reflected a slowdown from the 34 percent jump in the prior three months, reflecting a more challenging comparison basis and a recovery in Chinese tourism outside of Asia.

Revenues in Japan remained strong, up 30 percent in the third quarter, after a rise of 29 percent in the second quarter.

選址上海龍美術館（Long Museum）西岸館辦秀之餘，Louis Vuitton也邀請中國藝術家孫一鈿合作，將藝術家圍繞動物玩偶和大規模生產物品進行寫實主義創作的繪畫，結合服裝、包款、硬箱、配飾和香氛。

The Squid Game star joined the house for its “Voyager” traveling fashion show.

As player 067 in Squid Games , Hoyeon Jung kicked serious ass. And it would appear that the actress, who is next set to star in the new Apple TV+ thriller series Disclaimer directed by Alfonso Cuarón, is continuing her training regimen, despite whatever is on her calendar. Case in point: On the morning of Louis Vuitton’s “Voyager” traveling fashion show in Shanghai yesterday, Jung did a tai chi class on a rooftop.

Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière presented his pre-fall 2024 collection for the house at the city’s Long Museum West Bund, located at the bank of the Huangpu River in the Xuhui District. Animated characters appeared on playful silhouettes—the same animals as the inflatable balloons that drifted over Shanghai’s skyline to build hype for the event. “When my artworks are translated into clothing, bags, or perfumes, they become much closer to people,” says artist Sun Yitian, who LV partnered with for the show. “This interaction is lively and unpredictable.”

Jung wore a see-through dress embroidered with silver metallic disks layered over black cigarettes pants and a matching crop top, which were visible underneath. She accessorized with a pair of sculptural black heels. Scroll through below for an exclusive look into her getting-ready process.

Cate Blanchett always dresses to the nines, and her latest look is no exception. The Australian actress attended the Louis Vuitton Women’s Voyager pre-fall 2024 collection show on April 18 in Shanghai, channeling her chic side with black leather boots .

The mid-calf boots feature a block heel of about 3 to 4 inches and a pointy toe. The leather material adds a hint of edginess to her minimalist black-and-white outfit.

Apparel & accessories, louis vuitton holds 'voyager' fashion show in shanghai.

SHANGHAI, April 18 (Reuters) - Louis Vuitton debuted its newly-labelled "Voyager" travelling show in Shanghai on Thursday night, showing off asymmetric hemlines and boxy leather vests in the country that is one of the brand's key markets.

More than 1,000 invitees, including international celebrities like Cate Blanchett and local stars such as Zhou Dongyu and Jackson Wang, took in the pre-fall collection designed by women's artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière.

The show was held in the cavernous concrete expanse of the Atelier Deshaus-designed Long Museum, in the riverside West Bund art district. It included pieces made in collaboration with Beijing-based artist Sun Yitian, who painstakingly paints photographs of inflated plastic animals, including ducklings, cats and rabbits. Reprints of her works were incorporated into the opening designs of the show.

In the days leading up to the show, images of Sun's work popped up around Shanghai, China's most international city, projected onto the exterior of malls and plastering walls in hip shopping and lifestyle districts.

For Louis Vuitton, the largest luxury brand in the LVMH stable, China continues to represent one of the world's most important luxury opportunities, even as a broader economic slowdown and consumer malaise stymie growth.

LVMH said on Tuesday that year-on-year sales for the quarter ending in March rose 3% on an organic basis, but purchases by Chinese shoppers globally grew 10%.

Last year, Louis Vuitton's men's line, helmed by Pharell Williams, staged a large-scale show in Hong Kong. (Reporting by Casey Hall, Editing by Rosalba O'Brien)

Voyager 1 transmitting data again after Nasa remotely fixes 46-year-old probe

Engineers spent months working to repair link with Earth’s most distant spacecraft, says space agency

Earth’s most distant spacecraft, Voyager 1, has started communicating properly again with Nasa after engineers worked for months to remotely fix the 46-year-old probe.

Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which makes and operates the agency’s robotic spacecraft, said in December that the probe – more than 15bn miles (24bn kilometres) away – was sending gibberish code back to Earth.

In an update released on Monday , JPL announced the mission team had managed “after some inventive sleuthing” to receive usable data about the health and status of Voyager 1’s engineering systems. “The next step is to enable the spacecraft to begin returning science data again,” JPL said. Despite the fault, Voyager 1 had operated normally throughout, it added.

Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 was designed with the primary goal of conducting close-up studies of Jupiter and Saturn in a five-year mission. However, its journey continued and the spacecraft is now approaching a half-century in operation.

Voyager 1 crossed into interstellar space in August 2012, making it the first human-made object to venture out of the solar system. It is currently travelling at 37,800mph (60,821km/h).

The recent problem was related to one of the spacecraft’s three onboard computers, which are responsible for packaging the science and engineering data before it is sent to Earth. Unable to repair a broken chip, the JPL team decided to move the corrupted code elsewhere, a tricky job considering the old technology.

The computers on Voyager 1 and its sister probe, Voyager 2, have less than 70 kilobytes of memory in total – the equivalent of a low-resolution computer image. They use old-fashioned digital tape to record data.

The fix was transmitted from Earth on 18 April but it took two days to assess if it had been successful as a radio signal takes about 22 and a half hours to reach Voyager 1 and another 22 and a half hours for a response to come back to Earth. “When the mission flight team heard back from the spacecraft on 20 April, they saw that the modification worked,” JPL said.

Alongside its announcement, JPL posted a photo of members of the Voyager flight team cheering and clapping in a conference room after receiving usable data again, with laptops, notebooks and doughnuts on the table in front of them.

The Retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, who flew two space shuttle missions and acted as commander of the International Space Station, compared the JPL mission to long-distance maintenance on a vintage car.

“Imagine a computer chip fails in your 1977 vehicle. Now imagine it’s in interstellar space, 15bn miles away,” Hadfield wrote on X . “Nasa’s Voyager probe just got fixed by this team of brilliant software mechanics.

Voyager 1 and 2 have made numerous scientific discoveries , including taking detailed recordings of Saturn and revealing that Jupiter also has rings, as well as active volcanism on one of its moons, Io. The probes later discovered 23 new moons around the outer planets.

As their trajectory takes them so far from the sun, the Voyager probes are unable to use solar panels, instead converting the heat produced from the natural radioactive decay of plutonium into electricity to power the spacecraft’s systems.

Nasa hopes to continue to collect data from the two Voyager spacecraft for several more years but engineers expect the probes will be too far out of range to communicate in about a decade, depending on how much power they can generate. Voyager 2 is slightly behind its twin and is moving slightly slower.

In roughly 40,000 years, the probes will pass relatively close, in astronomical terms, to two stars. Voyager 1 will come within 1.7 light years of a star in the constellation Ursa Minor, while Voyager 2 will come within a similar distance of a star called Ross 248 in the constellation of Andromeda.

The semi-final of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers brought together twenty young designers selected among over 2,500 candidates, who presented their collections to the Prize Experts and the public.

Eight brands were selected to take part in the final. The shortlisted designers will present their collections to the Prize Jury at the final to be held on Tuesday 10 th September at the Louis Vuitton Foundation .

The Jury will choose among the finalists the winner of the LVMH Prize, the winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize and, for the first time, the winner of the Savoir-Faire Prize, a distinction that rewards excellence in craftsmanship, technical innovation and the sustainable approach of the brands selected. This year’s jury includes Jonathan Anderson, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Kim Jones, Stella McCartney, Nigo, Phoebe Philo, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Pharrell Williams, as well as Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie and Sidney Toledano.

The LVMH Prize rewards the winner of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers with a 400,000-euro endowment and a tailored mentorship by LVMH teams. Moreover, the winners of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize and of the Savoir-Faire Prize receive a 200,000-euro allocation and also enjoy a one-year mentorship by LVMH teams.

Finally, every year the Prize distinguishes three young fashion school graduates . Each winner, as well as their school, will receive 10,000 euros and join the design studio of one of the group’s Houses for one year.

Of course, you will also learn more about the stories that once happened behind the thick walls of the Kremlin – from the Tsars and Napoleon to Stalin. Then we continue through the idyllic Alexander Garden.

«First acquaintance with Moscow» – a 2.5-hour city tour in the center of Moscow

This Moscow city tour starts on the Theater Square, past Lubyanka Square and the KGB-building, then through Kitay Gorod district and Varvarka Street, past the world-famous St. Basil’s Cathedral. Then it goes across Zarjadje Park, over Red Square at the Lenin Mausoleum, the GUM-department store and towards the Historical Museum. We walk through the Alexander Garden.

A 3.5-hour car/bus tour of Moscow.

This is the best tour of Moscow city as all the important sights are visited. I am your Moscow city guide who will walk you through the city explaining the charming history of the city. This tour begins with picking you up from the hotel. 3 breaks are offered for photographing.

First, we will visit the most famous riverside streets and bridges in the center of the city with the most beautiful views of the Kremlin and the Moskva River (e.g. the Kremlin embankment and the Great Stone Bridge).

The first photo break is made at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. We then pass by the district with numerous museums, Prechistinka Street and the district with numerous medical areas.

We again stop at the Novodevichy Convent, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the other bank of the Moskva River to click pictures.

Then we visit “Sparrow Hills” where you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city of Moscow from the observation deck. Then there are the skyscrapers of Moscow-City, the Kutuzov avenue, the New Arbat, Tverskaya Street, the world-famous Bolshoi Theater, the KGB building and Varvarka Street. Here there are ample spots to click pictures.

We then drive past the Kremlin again and finally reach Red Square. We take a short tour of Red Square and say goodbye in the Alexander Garden.

Metro tour – daily

Palaces for ordinary people – that was what Stalin promised to the people when the construction of the Moscow Metro began between the World Wars. The communist dictator hadn’t promised too much. No other underground system in the world can boast such spectacular architecture – chandeliers, decorations, stucco, paintings on the walls – each station is individually designed. No wonder that Moscow residents love their metro. I will guide you through the bustle of one of the busiest subways in the world and show you the most beautiful stations Moscow city has.

Tour of Communist Moscow – every day

After the Communist October Revolution in 1918, Moscow became the capital of the Soviet Empire and was the center of socialist orbit for more than 70 years. This left its mark on Moscow, even if the USSR disintegrated more than a quarter of a century ago. The city streets are full of remnants of the communist regime and the Cold War. This is a walking tour where I will show you the most exciting places in Soviet Moscow: from the notorious KGB headquarters, also known as Lubyanka to the Karl Marx Monument to small hidden remains from the time of hammer and sickle. You will also learn about Stalin’s Great Terror political campaign and the system of the GULAG and how the USSR, the communist Russian republic, became modern Russia.

Alternative Moscow Tour – daily

A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992.
