How does the Alfa Romeo Adaptive Cruise Control System work?

Alfa romeo adaptive cruise control  .

How does the Alfa Romeo Adaptive Cruise Control System work? Alfa Romeo’s Cruise Control raises the bar on cruise control by making it safe and straightforward. It monitors the road and maintains a safe gap between you and the car ahead of you. The distance is controlled by a radar sensor positioned behind the front bumper, and a camera mounted in the top center area of the windshield. Are you interested in learning more about Alfa Romeo’s Adaptive Cruise Control? Palmen Alfa Romeo is available to answer any of your inquiries. Continue reading this blog to learn more. How to use the Adaptive Cruise Control feature?

Activating adaptive cruise control is simple. On the left side of the steering wheel, press the ON/OFF button. Press the set button after accelerating to the desired speed. Cruise control will be activated as a result of this action. Once you’re behind a car, press the Set Distance switch to the right of the Set Switch. The mechanism will keep a safe distance between you and the other person.

Nice! You are a brave man! However, this mod is very tempting, as I already miss the ACC from my old car. How much is the ACC Button part? I've just googled MES and Cantiecar - informative!

Very courageous KGB!

Maybe in the near future there will be a legit way to use MES with SGW cars by subscription from FCA... 1euro for 24h period. BTW keep in mind that not all 2018 cars have it..best thing to do is check. Will get in touch with ALFAOBD developer as well maybe he can do it as well. About the ACC update we are working on it and will let you know as soon as I have any information. For now for 500kms it worked without any issues.

beware of the 8238 recall! Excellent tutorial... let me however emphasize one critical check everyone with an older car (2017 for sure, maybe part of 2018 batch also?) should perform before even thinking of activating ACC. This year the 8238 AR recall has appeared for Stelvio and Giulia owners - and unfortunately, those of us without the factory ACC option are not getting it! So - at least for now - if you own a car that has that buggy BSM module SW version (need to check the exact HW/SW combination in the recall doc; do not look in the VINs range there) - there's no chance of safely activating the ACC (the recall is about the risk of uncontrolled car speed increase when ACC is active - yep, sounds scaring...). Just a warning to everyone with such plans - because I already got the buttons module with ACC from the dealer and checked the BSM for the bug later - unfortunately, I the car has that bug, and according to the dealer there's no chance of getting the 8238 recall performed on car with no factory ACC...

alfa romeo active cruise control

it is chance. you need somebody to activate ACC sales option for your VIN, then Witech will find and update. even temporary activate. Also lets be reasonable - cars were using buggy firmware for ACC for 2+ years and nobody even on any forum I followed complained about car speeding up. Moreover, with ACC you have very safe distance to preceeding car, even if your car starts increasing the speed, you watch the road, and act. ACC, LDW, AEB, ESP, ABS etc won't drive for you, they are just supporters, but it is driver who is in control and is required to pay attention all the time. Do you trust new firmware or other firmwares in this or any car to be bug free? They are not I guarantee you. I seen too many bugs in all equipment I deal with both home and professionally. I too long work in developement as well. Even all was 100% bulletproof and smartest/best algorithms, still hardware is not space grade (which still does not guaratee everything), no redundancies inside hardware (like parallel paths of processing with voting of result), no protections (like hanning coding redundancies in dataflow for self-correction) etc, so anyway any car (electronics) at any time may get corruption/glitch in operation, and so misbehave. Look at recent Boeing 737 Max story - in cars surely you do not have any comparable development effort and certification testing, so it can be only worse. Of course once they find the safety bug, they have to correct this, so there is campagin, as otherwise if accident happens and it is known FCA knew about issue, they would be screwed by court sentence if one charges them.

I cant answer your questions, but heard that blind spot monitoring must be in the car. maybe somebody else could confirm?

Should be possible to active it with manual. Maybe you can try to configure a car with manual and ACC on one of the Alfa Romeo web pages and see if it is going to allow you.

kgb said: A little guide of how to install it: DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. Well first you need the steering wheel buttons with ACC button EPER part number is: 156130459 also you need to have the front radar and camera, the procedure is the same for the Giulia 0. If you don't want to remove the battery power it is best to leave your key away from the car so it doesn't go into standby mode. Also if you car has SGW you will need a few additional steps. 1. You need to remove your steering wheel airbag. There is a clip accessible from the bottom of the airbag with a flat screw driver..you press it with the screw driver and then the airbag should come off. They are cables attached to the airbag so be careful and you also should remove them. 2. Disconnect all cables. 3. Remove steering wheel from the car, will be much easier to work this way. Then unscrew the 3 screws on the back...one behind each buttons panel and one in the bottom of the steering wheel. Then working on the bottom part of the steering wheel you need to detach the plastic cover that looks like aluminum using a a plastic screw driver for clips or something similar BUT becareful not to damage the leather on the steering wheel. They are two big plastic clips almost in the middle of the steering wheel located below the airbag. Carefully detach them. 4. Once you have the plastic cover removed you can remove the buttons. Maybe it is a good idea to install the red start stop button if you want, at this time. Buttons have their own wiring so be careful with that as well. Take your time and don't rush ,it is not a very hard job. 5. Replace buttons with the new ones. Then put everything back together. 6. Connect Multiecuscan to your ABS and check that you have your steering wheel at 0.00degrees 7. Turn on the car without starting the engine, connect Multiecuscan (MES) and go to Proxi alignment. 8. In the part where you see that you have the cruise control enabled...disable it. Go to to adaptive cruise control and enable it. 9. Do the proxi alignment. It is best to use Wifi Cantier interface (meaning latest version of the interface that has both wifi and BT) with MES as ELM327 or other interfaces might fail at some modules. 10. When the proxi alignment finishes you will have error codes in some ECUs and you need adaptation of the ABS ecu. At this point the car is in safety mode and you won't be able to move it!!! Don't freak out. BUT for just in case everything goes to ****, park the car somewhere where it can stay until the tow truck comes. 11. Go to ABS ecu and go to parameters. Check that steering wheel is at 0.00 degress meaning 100% in the center not turn left or right...then go to adjustments and do steering wheel reset. 12. After that do a brake pressure reset. 13. Also do YAW sensors reset. 14. Delete DTCs erros in the ABS unit 15. Switch off the car and wait a few mins. 16. Turn on the car again and go to engine ecu delete DTCs there as well. After the proxi alignment is finished you will have erros in many ecus. (your engine might start to shake a little....don't freak out in most cases it doesn't. Thing is that engine is loosing connection to ABS unit, to say it short and some other stuff. 17. After deleting dtc in engine ecu go to all other ecu and delete errors as well. 18. Switch off the car and wait. 19. Turn on the car press the cruise control and acc buttons and look at the display to see if the icons do appear. 20. Find a nice road and with a friend of front of you try the ACC and learn how it works... also read the owners manual before that. 21. Always look at the road ahead and be prepared to brake. 22. Enjoy your rides an be safe p.s: for pictures go to https://www.stelvioforum.com/forum/...uise-control-acc-installation.html#post116975 Click to expand...

Replaced just a module and it works.. wondering about this ABS module update.. I have also heard that radar software is different in non factory acc not sure if somone can confirm that info and that it should be also updated when activating ACC aftermarket.. Wysłane z mojego SM-N950F przy użyciu Tapatalka

i didnt get abs(bsm) update yesterday when i was on annual service (they did a few other updates) probaby because i have no acc (so no sales code)

Hi all Has anyone tried this on a Giulia ? Has it worked ok? I see the part number for the stelvio on this thread. Has anyone got the part number for the Giulia version ? Thanks

giuliavpart number would differ as buttons do not have hill descent. go to keyeper.pekidi.com and find right one for acc opion. on polish forum one of my colleagues has activated acc in giulia super 2016, all works ok. now the issue bit. first, if you have car manufactured 31.01.2018 or newer you have security gateway so with MES currently you cant activate ACC. you can buy bypass, soon i open internet shop and i will have such at decent price - a few minutes install. then other issue is that in march 2019 there was service recall for safety reasons related to misbehaviour of acc. it is BSM module update to firmware version 8541(probably only very recent cars have this version out of factory), unfortunatell from my recent experience older cars without acc option in FCA database (sales code for ACC) do not get update (Im on ver 8401 still). the way to get update is to have good relation with dealer and ask him to add acc sales code against your vin. if you have this, then you should get update and dealer also should be able to activate acc with their witech2 tool (possibly reset car config and do proxi i guess), and then you do not need SGW bypass and MES.

Hi I've just added the ACC to my 2017. Fitting the button was exactly as per the guide but I'm having trouble with the poxy alignment. All modules align ok expect the brakes/abs module I get a out of request out of range error I can connect to the module fine with the gray adapter and carry out all the adaptions and clear error codes. Any ideas ? Thanks

The MES website says "The WiFi functionality of the CANtieCAR interfaces is still in testing phase." So I'd be very reluctant to use CANtieCAR WiFI for a proxy alignment. Andy

Thanks for your reply. I meant to reply to this (i did on the Giulia forum ) Got it working now . You have to select ACC+ not ACC during proxy alignment

That is correct.... will edit my first post now. Sorry for the inconvenience

No need to apologise. If you did not make the guide we would not have adaptive cruise control ?

Has anyone done the install on a 19 with the SGM?

obviously that won't work as you cannot do a proxy alignment, unless you have a bypass module installed for the SGW.

All making it “not the car you ordered” and not the car insured.

What is the max Speed you can set? Wysłane z mojego SM-N950F przy użyciu Tapatalka

Can i use MES 4.0 + ELM327 WiFI BT to activate the ACC+ and do the proxy aligment? Do i need some adaptors or those colour adaptors are for the older cars? I did read sometimes it may fail, but this is one i have for now so i can give a try. Thanks

You need to have proper adapters with different colors. There is exact info on official MES website. I have Cantiecar interface so I never used those adapters.. Wysłane z mojego SM-N950F przy użyciu Tapatalka

I did find it there. Thanks for the directions.

Just a update to this. I carried out this retrofit a few months ago and it's been working flawlessly. Giulia was in for some warranty work yesterday and has come back with the cruise control not working. I imagine they did a proxi allignment and unintentionally disabled it. I'll have access to my laptop tomorrow so I'll do another proxi allignment and see it it works. Something to bear in mind if you have carried out this retrofit and then use the dealer for any updates

How you activated the Race Mode?

Not yet as I am not home.

Which Cars Have Self-Driving Features for 2022?

By Fred Meier

Vehicles with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that automate some tasks — braking, acceleration and steering in some situations — are more common at all price levels for 2022. They also are becoming more sophisticated, with some now making lane changes, allowing for brief hands-free driving and more.

Related: When Hands-Free Ain’t Free: What’s the Cost of Self-Driving Tech?

It’s important to emphasize, however, that there are no self-driving cars for sale today. Advanced driver-assist tech offers convenience, relief from some driving tasks and some additional safety, but all currently require an engaged driver ready to take over when required. The latest AAA automated vehicle survey indicates that is OK with most drivers. Just 22% think automakers should focus on self-driving vehicles, while 80% simply want current ADAS tech to work better. That agrees with Cars.com’s real-world experience; we’ve found that  such systems vary in smooth performance, accuracy and ease of use.

While some tech, such as automatic emergency braking, works in the background, we are looking here at which model-year 2022 vehicles have these key active assistance systems (more detailed explanations are below the vehicle list):

  • Adaptive cruise control: Accelerates and brakes to maintain a selectable distance from the car ahead up to the driver’s set speed. Most ACC systems now can brake down to a stop.
  • Hands-on lane-centering steering: Actively steers to keep the vehicle centered in a marked lane, generally on highways. It will warn and disengage if your hands are off the wheel more than briefly.
  • Hands-free steering: Centers the vehicle in its lane without requiring your hands on the wheel — only in specific conditions and on certain roads. All systems still require — and verify with cameras — that your eyes are on the road. Note that these systems also might cost extra to use after an initial free period. Most automakers are considering a subscription model for such advanced services and software; Tesla has already announced a monthly subscription plan.

All current systems — including the hands-free versions — are just Level 2 partial automation on the six tiers of vehicle autonomy as designated by SAE International and federal regulators. With Level 2, the human driver must be watching the road and ready to take control, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has announced it will begin evaluating how well these systems monitor driver inattention and react to it.

On the horizon might be vehicles with Level 3 conditional automation, which allows the driver to have eyes off the road but still ready to take back control if alerted. There’s no such vehicle on the U.S. market now, however. Audi aspired to be the first, but regulatory delays stalled the plan ; Mercedes-Benz now says it will take a run at getting U.S. approval for a Level 3 low-speed system designed for traffic jams.

Below are the brands and vehicles (exotic and super-luxury brands excluded) with such ADAS standard or optional for 2022 (note they may require other options or a higher trim level). The vehicle list is mostly by root model nameplates; we don’t break out alternate body styles sharing the badge name and major components, nor do we separate performance or other powertrain versions of a model. We did make a few exceptions where a feature is exclusive to just one variant, however.

Alphabetically by brand, here’s the availability by brand and model of these features for the 2022 model year:

Adaptive cruise control and hands-on lane centering at higher speeds only:

2022 Acura ILX

Adaptive cruise control down to a stop with hands-on lane centering at higher speeds only:

2022 Acura RDX

Adaptive cruise control and hands-on lane centering, both down to a stop:

2022 Acura MDX 2022 Acura TLX

What should I look for?

Acura bundles most driver-assist tech under its AcuraWatch suite of safety features, though capabilities vary by model; depending on the vehicle, AcuraWatch includes a Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, or both. Lane-centering steering via LKAS functions only from 45 mph up, but only the TLX and MDX include Traffic Jam Assist, which adds adaptive cruise control and lane-centering down to a stop.

Terminology varies. Traffic Jam Assist provides hands-on lane-centering steering at vehicle speeds up to around 40 mph. Active Lane Assist, which Audi also characterizes as lane centering, works above roughly 40 mph. For adaptive cruise control, look for Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, sometimes simply called Adaptive Cruise Control or Adaptive Cruise Assist. Adaptive Cruise Assist with Lane Guidance includes both. The features are available on every Audi except the R8 and TT sports cars.

More Details on Driver Assistance Systems

The overall goals of these automated systems are similar, but their underlying technology and the onboard sensors and connected data sources they use can vary from car to car. They also can vary in the specific driving conditions required for use and in their user experience. If such systems are important for your driving, you should research the systems specific to any vehicle you’re considering to be sure the capabilities match what you expect.

Read on for more about these systems and what they’re designed to do.

Adaptive Cruise Control Down to a Stop

Current “smart” adaptive cruise control uses sensors (cameras, radar, ultrasound or some combination that might also include GPS and the navigation system) and controls acceleration and braking to maintain a selectable distance from the car ahead up to the target speed the driver sets.

Most systems now work down to a full stop, though you still see some older systems that work only above certain speeds. Some will resume automatically after a stop in traffic if the stop is just a few seconds; others always require a touch of the accelerator or a resume button to continue after a stop. While all brake to control speed in response to a slowdown of the car ahead, more advanced systems also can monitor traffic beyond the car ahead for slowdowns. Some systems now can adjust speed slower for freeway curves or transition ramps and some also can respond to changes in the posted speed limit.

Lane-Centering Steering

True lane centering actively steers to keep your vehicle centered in its marked lane. This is not to be confused with lane departure steering assist, which simply nudges you back if you start to drift over lane markings. Most such systems currently require you to keep your hands on the wheel. They’ll alert you and then deactivate if sensors detect your hands are off the wheel beyond a brief time. Lane-centering steering also will shut down if lane markings disappear, such as in lane merges or splits, construction or bad weather.

Most lane-centering systems now work from highway speeds to a stop, but some still function only above certain speeds. A few advanced systems now can perform other steering functions, such as lane changes on command. Some also now have more sophisticated tuning to drive more naturally, such as shifting you slightly from center in the lane if the vehicle in the next lane comes close to the lane markings.

Hands-Free Steering

These systems are the latest in active steering assistance, working in tandem with adaptive cruise control to steer, accelerate and brake the car within the lane without requiring your hands on the wheel. Some incorporate the ability to automatically change lanes. All currently function in carefully limited situations, most commonly only on pre-mapped divided highways in the U.S. and Canada utilizing GPS connectivity and cloud-based map data. While they don’t require your hands on the wheel, all currently require you to keep your eyes on the road (confirmed by driver-facing interior cameras) and be ready to retake full control when alerted. GM, BMW, Ford, Nissan and Toyota are among automakers that are rolling out or expanding availability of such systems.

Eyes-Free Driving

Attention-free driving in a commercially available car isn’t available yet. U.S. and global regulatory delays stalled the rollout of Audi’s 2019 A8 sedan with a Level 3 Traffic Jam Pilot system, and Audi reportedly abandoned the plan in 2020.

Captain Nemo

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I just turned in a 2018 Stelvio Sport, that I absolutely loved and drove away from the dealer with a new 2021 Stelvio TI. The first time I went on the Turnpike I realized I cannot live with all the nannies this new Stelvio has. First and foremost is the Active Cruise Control that is driving me crazy, slowing the car down when there is no need for it. Second is the Beeping alert when a car in front of me suddenly slows down or slams on the brakes. I tried to turn all these driver's aids off, but I see they never are really off and when I re-start the car they are back on. Does any one knows how to either turn them off permanently or to disconnect them ? When I drive I do not need these electronic gizmos to second guess me.

Ernesto said: [QUOTE = "KGB, post: 116965, membro: 6659"] Una piccola guida su come installarlo: FALLO A TUO RISCHIO E RISCHIO. 2. Scollegare tutti i cavi. 22. Cruise Control.

alfa romeo active cruise control

  • Add to quote

i looked into this before, but had no result. i have a 92 spider, and am wondering if anyone figured a reliable way to add cruise control. i was thinking of driving a very long distance, and a cruse control would be mandatory. if i can not do that, then i will have to take a different car. i am looking at a 1800 mile trip. thanks guys.

We have driven many a 1800+ mile trip in Alfas, none equiped with cruise control. 1800 miles is not a very long trip. One we did was 7000 miles in a 164LS which did have cc but we never used it, enjoying every mile driven. Actually, have driven back and forth across the entire country in Alfas without cc. No problem if you are on curvy roads, but even on freeways, usually there is enough traffic to mostly negate the cc, having to be on and off the throttle and gearbox most of the time. You should just enjoy driving the car, esp on roads where it will be more fun, ie, "blue highways" (look it up), lol.

alfa romeo active cruise control

There used to be cruise control accessories offered in the classified ads of the Car Magazine out here, but that was at least 2 decades ago, I presume it's similar on your shores, so unless you find someone who has an unused kit from that time, it's unlikely that any shop today has them new as there simply isn't the call for them. Like Del, we use our cars lots and I'm due for a 500 mile trip to get to the start of a Tour in 2 weeks time, Dad & I are taking the '57 Spider, I enjoy the actual drive of the car. We're off-peak and travelling in a week day to avoid Friday traffic so the drive is actually a pleasure and we stop regularly for coffee & comfort breaks, Dad is 90 now and loves the tours. Ciao Greig

I hate taking mine on motorways (freeways) because its sooo boring so cruise control isn't needed , long distance in a Spider is fine as long its not droning along straight roads, if that's the case then I would take a different car

alfa romeo active cruise control

thanks for the responses, it is like i expected. yeah. short drives are fun, but that distance will be boring, and i would hate to forget my speed, and get trapped by some statey or worse. maybei will take my scion. , or fly. or train. i love driving short distances, but highways, i would rather not have to pay attention, to how fast i am going. i have found myself going faster that i should, these cars like to run...

alfa romeo active cruise control

I have fit the old Audiovox unit to our S3 Spider . It worked well for many years but eventually the unit failed. I don't believe they still make this device. Since almost all cars made now come with cruise control there isn't much of a market for these aftermarket units. Another option is to modify the throttle pedal to make your right foot a little more comfortable. modified gas pedal

I remember those kits. Haven't seen them advertised in years. As I mentioned, we just look for the "blue highways" to make the drive more interesting.

alfa romeo active cruise control

I have not tried one of these, but if you search Amazon they have some options available such as Amazon.com: Rostra 250-1223 Universal Electronic Cruise Control : Automotive .

alfa romeo active cruise control

Aftermarket Cruise Control Kits Check these people out. If your car was earlier, I would say use a kit that doesn't require vacuum, but you should be able to find a point to get a good consistent vacuum to operate a vacuum controlled system. As a side comment, I have a friend that installed cruise control in a 1972 MGB and loves it to travel distances on the interstate.

i had a 76, that had a hand throttle, only spider i ever saw like that.

Hand throttles are dangerous, if they are what I think what you are alluding to, and what they are. If something happens, the 'fake' cc doesn't shut off. I remember my Giulia Sprint GT had a hand throttle , and I tried it a couple of times, but decided I didn't want to do that for the obvious reason.

yeah, i never did use it, but it was there. seemed cumbersome. i also gues, they didn't catch on, as that was the only year i saw that, if i am not mistaken.

I suspect they were outlawed, as the potential liabilities were just too great.

i bet u r rite.

alfa romeo active cruise control

There are a lot aftermarket cruise control kits out there.

I have to admit that I have always had trouble wrapping my head around the thought that one needs a CC in an Alfa, but then again, I am severely old fashioned, lol. Thank goodness, my wife feels the same. When we drove our new to us Chevy SS to Seattle from Vegas, there was never a thought of ever using the cc. A performance oriented car just doesn't seem to raise that thought, but that's just us, basically raised on hot rod Minis, Gordini Renaults, Fiats, and Alfas from long long ago. Neither of us have ever owned US cars, except for now, and of course, it is somewhat of a beast.

in all the cars that i have owned, most didn't have CC, but it is a connivence that i think is useful. it saves energy, and keeps one from going to fast, and avoids the law. on a shorter drive, not a big deal. but i am not a fan of long drives, so when on a highway, i sometimes don't pay as much attention to how fast i am going, and find my self "speeding" especially in 5th in a alfa. just natural. so if i would attempt a very long drive, i would prefer a cc. the only reason to do a drive like that, is to have a car on the other end. i hate renting. but really prefer public transit. anyway. it is what it is.

Cruise Control Recall

alfa romeo active cruise control

  • Add to quote

Alfa Romeo recalls Giulia and Stelvio — cruise control can go haywire I *just* got my Giulia back from the UB9 recall—yes my brake line had been damaged—and now I'll probably have to take it back in another month. I'm currently 3 for 3 in having a new recall be announced within a week of bringing my car in for service. If anyone wants to know when the next recall will be, just ask when I'm bringing my car in. :smile2::grin2::crying:

alfa romeo active cruise control

LOL! We were about to take ours in for the brake line issue and rebooting fix but I guess we'll hold off for a bit! Expected issues when we bought early... don't regret a thing, still loving the car! :smile2:

This recall just involves a software update, so there's no need to wait.

Well it's not out yet, right? The article I linked indicated Alfa won’t issue notices until next month.

alfa romeo active cruise control

I believe the recall is just for cars with Adaptive Cruise control? I'm sure @MacGeek can confirm? I don't have that feature on my Giulia. I'm sure the adaptive cruise control is a very effective safety feature, but it is a feature that has never appealed to me. Glad I don't have it.

Do these recalls and updates reset all your favorites settings and such ? I hope not, as I am needing some of these updates/recalls, and they are being done next week. :frown2:

This recall is an update to your ABS module, but it could be more than one consecutive update. You could have one update needed or three. So no this recall should not affect any settings in your infotainment system.

just checked my VIN from mopar warranty/recall site and it's not popping up yet where I do have ACC.

alfa romeo active cruise control

Probably knows you don’t have a functional car.

alfa romeo active cruise control

My Alfa Romeo App simply crashes (it was working last week). Maybe I need to re-install? Mopar says two recalls on my car (Sept 2017 build), both completed. NHTSA says NO recalls on my car. What is with that?

I have the same issue with the MyAlfaRomeo app this week. Wss working fine before but when I launch it now (curiosly to check on recall info) it just tries to start and crashes with the "MyAlfaRomeo app has stopped" message.

Ok, good news. I don't have adaptive cruise control.

Oh OK then. I hadn't read the linked article, and I assumed the recall had been published in the US already (it's been published yesterday in Europe).

alfa romeo active cruise control

Runaway cruise control? Sounds a lot like self driving. It's not a bug it's a FEATURE

alfa romeo active cruise control

At least in my car if the windshield is dirty I get a different warning stating that the windshield is dirty and therefor ACC functionality is limited. ACC will also shut off temporarily if I override it with excessive throttle use (e.g. to pass on a 2 lane road). It takes a couple or 10 seconds for the system to recover and allow the ACC to be enabled again. No popup appears when it gets disabled this way, but it will say "ACC Temporarily unavailable" if I try to re-engage ACC during said recovery time.

my app isn't showing up any recalls either and I have adaptive cruise

The company says a software error caused the problem, and it's advising people not to use the adaptive cruise control until it's repaired. … Owners will be notified next month when they can schedule an update to the brake system software. Click to expand...

alfa romeo active cruise control

I don't have ACC so yayyyy! I don't have to detune or wait. Sorry to others. Though I did want ACC, there was just limited inventory when I brought mine. But I don't think I'm missing it. I've had loaners with it and it is more of a nusiance as well as the vibrating beeps. I also agree that it will also be a simple software flash.

alfa romeo active cruise control

Alfa called me today about an open case I have and I asked when the fix will be available. She said it was released today, so I have an appt to do the BSM software update tomorrow morning. I’m taking a trip this weekend to the KY Bourbon Trail, so I’ll get plenty of highway time to test it out.

Ditto, dealer called today and said they couldn't close my open case from yesterday till I got the ACC RRT update. 15-45 minutes. V27 Recall, NHTSA Recall # 19V-148, March 1, 2019 "In certain circumstances while ACC is active and the traction control detects a specific wheel slip, it is possible for a positive torque request to be locked by the BSM which may result in unexpected acceleration. If the driver does not shift to neutral or apply the brakes to stop the vehicle this condition can cause a vehicle crash with prior warning."

Recall completed and I haven’t been thrusted uncontorably into another vehicle yet. So, I guess all’s good.

My app updated to show I'm due for this recall. My service center, naturally, can't see me for several weeks. Enough time to issue another recall just after I visit, FCA, you hear me??

Just took the Giulia in for annual service and new window trim and door trim. (Surprise Alfa sent the wrong window case) but they told me they did the recall.

Mine just popped up on the NHTSA site. Time to schedule my first visit at Herb's.

FYI if you are getting this update: https://www.giuliaforums.com/forum/...ruise-control-recall-max-oil-level-error.html

Thanks for that info, mine turned off in a rain / wet snow storm thought it was another gremlin..

Didn’t think you even supposed to use cruise control in the rain? Certainly not in snow!

actually is was the front collision that turned off, then went back on... I get confused :grin2:

Probably not related to the recall. Either the radar or the windshield camera got obstructed by snow and/or water. They all shut off under said conditions. ACC lacks a backup standard cruise control function when the radar is obscured. Although cruise control is not recommended for use in the snow, it is possible to drive over a mountain pass, get the radar covered with snow and disabled as a consequence, then continue on dry roads with the cruise control annoyingly disabled for a considerable distance.

Got the recall software update today on my Giulia QV. Talked to the technician and he said it does not reflash your ECUs for those of you that have mod ECUs. He said the problem was while using adaptive cruise control if the wheels would slip sometimes instead of putting on the brakes it would put on the gas!

Right, by the computer thinking it can help you by "stabilizing" the car, by applying a bit more torque on one side to keep you straight, ignoring the fact that you were trying to cruise AND follow another car. Does that sound about right?

4C Cruise Control

  • Add to quote

Looking for any feedback form owners of 20K and above mileage cars WITHOUT tunes: transmission problems/replacements? High ticket repairs? I came very close to buying a LE this weekend, but pulled back after reading some ominous threads the night before, felt heart-broken all day, then test-drove one. Now I'm doing my research and back in the hunt. I have a Carrera and tried to console myself that it is enough (which it is), but after driving the Alfa it felt like I was in a tiger suddenly let free.

I have had a 2015 LE since 2016. Had a clogged injector (warranty repair), tire pressure sensor (warranty repair) and a parking brake cable that needed adjusting. Nothing much else. I do press neutral at stop lights to reduce stress on the cluches but that is the only babying I do.

I'm just over 30k. Not miles I put on myself but I've got pretty complete service history. Only thing was an exhaust replacement around 25k after some of the welding gave out from the vibrations of the race exhaust. It feels great and still looks new

There was a surprisingly long thread on the clutch... Short version, don't try to be smarter than the car.

46k daily driven miles and counting on my LE without any serious issues. Only thing mechanical that has been replaced on the car under warranty has been the vacuum pump as it was seeping a little bit around its gasket, otherwise the car has performed flawlessly.

2015 owner just hit 20,000 miles. Lifetime of Repairs: Trans Control Module software update, 165 USD. No other repairs. Maintenance: Annual oil changes (180 USD). Break fluid every other year (200 USD) I do pump out some oil mid-summer and replace to minimize oil dilution that affects all high output DI cars. Call it 30 USD. Did timing belt on time schedule @ 1200 USD 200-dollar battery. Four new summer tires, one size up all around @ 525 USD (yes, for all four) after rebate. --------- 48-60 month warranties are available for 2800 to 3800 bucks. Consider one if you can't sleep owning out of warranty car. I worry about the 9,000-dollar transmission and nothing else. I did get a warranty, because of that.

The 4C has been a very reliable car...yes there are the few items that pop up like any car but overall the series is very reliable and pretty much bullet proof. I have copies of several large owner surveys to prove that. In one there was a large survey of all brands of cars for troubles or complaints in the first three years of ownership. Yes...Lexus and Toyota took top spots....but the 4C was about 4th place and beat Honda. BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar were far down the list. No recalls either. For most modern cars the issues are generally electrical glitches which makes sense with all the computers and electronic nannies in cars. Usually those are a matter of a reflash updating the firmware of a specific device. Hardware on modern cars is far more reliable than older cars.
