He’s performed with the likes of Dane Cook, Pablo Francisco, Jim Gaffigan, Eddie Griffith, Brian Regan and many more. His “Comedy You Can Believe In” show as won numerous awards including the American Gospel Music Award for Best Comedian of the Year. He’s also been featured on NBC, ABC, CBS, Comedy Central, The Game Show Network and countless radio programs. Isaac Witty Over the course of a career that has spanned more than two decades, Isaac has been a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman, Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” and The Conan O’Brien Show, among other impressive credits. Comedy on Carnival: The Punchliner Comedy Club

Say what you will about Carnival, there’s one thing the line does better than any other: comedy . And we’re not talking about passenger brawls or wardrobe malfunctions! Why? Because instead of featuring a guest comedian who performs one or two evenings in the main theater during the course of a cruise, every Carnival ship has a smaller, dedicated space for comedy called “ The Punchliner Comedy Club .” Each Carnival sailing will feature multiple rotating comedians performing anywhere from 5 to 30+ total shows depending on the length and itinerary of the cruise. Before I answer some additional questions about The Punchliner Comedy Club and provide the schedule of comedians by ship for 2024, since we’re talking comedy, I figured I’d share my three favorite cruise jokes:

Joke 1 Question: What did the ocean say to the cruise ship passengers? Answer: Nothing, it just waved! Joke 2 Question: Why was the cruise passenger afraid to buy a new hat? Answer: He was afraid of cap-sizing. Joke 3 Question: What is it like to work on a cruise ship? Answer: It has its ups and downs!

What kinds of shows are performed at The Punchliner Comedy Club?

There are two different kinds of shows offered, adults only (rated R) and family friendly (rated PG). Those under 18 are never allowed in the adults only shows (Carnival is very strict about this).

Is there a charge for The Punchliner Comedy Club on Carnival?

No! Unlike comedy clubs on land, there is no charge or minimum drink purchase at The Punchliner Comedy Club on Carnival. All show are included in your cruise fare.

What else do I need to know prior to attending a comedy show on Carnival?

Arrive early! There are capacity limits for every show and popular comedians will attract large crowds. You can find out which comedians are performing each night by looking on the HUB App or on the daily printed Fun Times schedule provided to your cabin each day. Sometimes the same show will be repeated over the course of a cruise, so be sure to check the schedule in advance for the names of the shows. Also, if there are back-to-back shows scheduled and you’d like to see both of them, crew will usually clear the club between shows, so you’ll have to exit and then re-enter. In terms of dress code, it’s “cruise casual” – almost anything goes except for bathing attire, flip-flops, and cut-off or basketball shorts. There is no smoking in the comedy club.

Nicole Kidman’s Family Guide: Meet Her Children With Keith Urban and Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman ’s greatest role isn’t on the big or small screen. Instead, it’s being the best mom possible to her four children.

“I just always wanted a child,” Nicole, 56, told Vogue Australia in December 2017. “I think from a very early age, I wanted a child. I knew that I was going to have a child and that it didn’t matter [how], I actually didn’t know if I was ever going to give birth to a child. So that was the least of it for me. And what I did first was adopt.”

In 1993, the Big Little Lies actress became a mom for the first time when she and her first husband Tom Cruise adopted their daughter, Bella. A few years later, the pair adopted son Connor into their family.

After the couple divorced in 2001, Kidman went on to find love with country singer and fellow Australian Keith Urban . The pair married in 2016 and welcomed daughters Sunday and Faith.

“If it were the choice between my family and Keith, and my career, I wouldn’t even bat an eyelid,” she told The Australia Women’s Weekly in June 2014. “The most important things to me are the love of our relationship and my children. At this stage of my life, and with time being so precious, the joy I get from us as a family outweighs any joy in any other area of my life, by far.”

Bella Kidman Cruise, 31

Tom, 61, and Nicole adopted daughter Bella shortly after her birth in December 1992.

“From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies,” Nicole told Vanity Fair in 2007. “And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella.”

While she was raised outside of the spotlight, Bella graduated from West London’s Delmar Academy of Make-up and Hair, before transitioning to a career in fashion.

Although Bella has an active Instagram , followers shouldn’t expect her to share family moments. Instead, it’s primarily dedicated to her art.

“Her go-to medium was pen and paper for most of her life,” her website states . “However, she is now venturing into other formats and mediums. Including digital. Which has been a bit of a game changer in her opinion. We hope you dig it.”

Connor Cruise, 29

Nicole and Tom, who wed in 1990, adopted their second child just after his birth in January 1995. In 2008, Connor got a glimpse of the Hollywood spotlight when he starred alongside Will Smith in the drama Seven Pounds . As a teenager, he briefly explored DJ gigs and released a single before making Florida his home.

Although Nicole and Tom divorced six years after their wedding, the actress expressed gratitude for the relationship and the family they created. “I got married really fast and really young,” she told Who Magazine in 2012. “But I don’t regret that because it got me Bella and Connor and I did have a fantastic marriage for a long period.”

According to People , Connor currently resides in the Sunshine State where he fishes and focuses on his barbecuing business, Connor’s Meatshack. “Connor has a pretty simple life in Clearwater,” a source told the publication. “He lives in his own home in a Scientology community. His life is deep-sea fishing. He has a lot of friends and seems very well-liked.”

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 15

Named in honor of the Australian patron of the arts, Sunday Reed, Sunday was born in July 2008 and spent much of her childhood with parents Nicole and Keith, 56, in Tennessee. “My daughters are Nashvillians! They have a southern drawl,” Nicole told People in 2016. “They have some Aussie. They have an unusual mix. They’re hybrids.”

Nicole has dropped hints that Sunday is interested in following in mom’s footsteps. In addition to showing an interest in directing, she’s also participated in theater.

“My daughter just got cast in her school play,” Nicole told E! News in January 2017. “So, that’s been the main priority, learning lines with her.”

And for those who wanted a season 3 of Big Little Lies , Sunday may be responsible for making it possible.

“She has a very good understanding of things and life, so she was hand-held through it,” Nicole revealed to Vogue Australia in January 2024. “She was like, ‘No. There’s no more discussion. The third series has to happen … I’m sick of the talk. Sick of circling it. Just get it done.’”

Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 13

In December 2010, Nicole and Keith surprised fans when they welcomed Faith via gestational surrogate.

It wasn’t until April 2024, however, when Faith and her older sister made their red carpet debut at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala, where their mom was the evening’s honoree.

In an interview with Today , Nicole expressed hopes that she was raising her daughters to be outspoken and strong. “So much is stepping aside and letting them become who they are,” she explained. “I don’t know if I’m teaching that as much as giving them their voices. I let them negotiate so they get a sense of who they are and what they can achieve and accomplish.”

Celebrating asian voices helps the asian comedy fest promote community.

The very funny Asian Comedy Fest has raised serious money for some worthy nonprofits.

The Asian Comedy Fest began in 2020 with the goal of showcasing and celebrating Asian voices. Since then the festival has featured over 100 rising and notable names in comedy within the Asian/Pacific Islander diaspora—including Ronny Chieng, Sabrina Wu, Dylan Adler and Andrea Jin. That’s only the start of what they hope to accomplish.

“It’s crazy that in just the five years that we’ve been doing this, how much this scene has blown up,” said Kate Lee Moran, one of the festival’s founders. “It’s really exciting. Every year we see more and more talent coming out. We could not have predicted, of course, when we first started that the pandemic would hit. Or how, with Asian hate and a lot of the kind of rhetoric that we've been seeing online, how much community and celebration within our community would be needed. So, we’ve been really grateful and lucky and excited to be able to continue this message and this mission to uplift and celebrate our community and its voices.”

Moran, a producer, director, writer and former stand-up comic, founded the festival with Ed Yoo Pokropski and Yao King. The festival does not aim to narrowly define what Asian comedy is or what it could be.

“Asian is not just one thing,” said Moran. “The big issue when you are talking about the API community is that we're not a monolith. We are incredibly diverse and it's incredibly personal, yet we get lumped into this one group all the time.”

So, how do you celebrate a group that’s extremely diverse and pay homage to each of those individual identities in a way that’s authentic and meaningful?

“We always open submissions to anyone who wants to submit, anyone who identifies within the large API diaspora,” said Moran. “We actually have people who submit from all over the world, so we call ourselves an international comedy festival. There are people who are mixed race, there are people like myself who are adopted. So it’s a very diverse diaspora and we really actually are excited about comedy that is not just about the Asian identity. We’re interested in the individual and we’re interested in their stories because what’s most important in all art is your story. For any person who is a minority, who is a woman, a person of color, oftentimes as a comedian, you’re so often the only one on that lineup on a show.”

Comedy routines don’t require talking about Asian identity and for some comedians this provides an opportunity to be funny about other topics.

“It’s a unique experience for our comedians when they get to be on a festival like this where they can pull out their material that is not about just their identity or just about their name or who they are,” said Moran. “They actually get to work on other material or other things because they’re not ‘othered’ in our festival for the first time, maybe in their entire careers.”

For many up-and-coming Asian comedians that’s a welcome change, but stand-up comedian, activist, podcast host and social media influencer Youngmi Mayer finds it meaningful to joke about her background. She has her own take on what it means to be an Asian comedian and enjoys exploring it during her stand-up. Humor can be an effective way to speak truth about subjects such as racism and intolerance.

“The area that I like to discuss is my race because I’m biracial,” said Mayer, who grew up in Korea and only spoke Korean until she was six years old. She didn’t live in the U.S. until she was 20.

“I think weirdly, even though I speak English the way I do, sometimes I think the way that I formulate jokes is a very Korean way,” she said. “Even though I’m fluent in English, and I’m telling you a joke in English, I think a lot of the time the delivery and tone is Korean.”

Youngmi Mayer is a comedian, podcast host and author of the book 'I'm Laughing Because I'm Crying.'

Mayer is the author of the book, I’m Laughing Because I’m Crying , which has a November release date. The book focuses on her bi-cultural upbringing, which was not always easy. She also likes to joke about the dangerous stereotype of being a model minority.

“That is the classic stereotype in America,” said Mayer. “Not that many Asian people have said this outright, but it’s kind of like the hole that we were placed in without any of us wanting to be perfect—hard working, straight As, good at math, good at violin, their parents worked hard at a laundromat and sent them to Harvard, that stereotype. I think a lot of Asian people to this day, because they're having to perform or live up to that stereotype, there is this part of Asian culture where in America it feels really dangerous to say that you’re a failure, that you’re broke, that you went to jail, that you had a drug problem, especially for children of immigrants. If you’re not doing a good job and following the rules, it’s very ingrained in us that that’s dangerous.”

When Mayer discovered the festival, she had been doing stand-up for about a year and a half.

“I was very excited to get booked,” said Mayer. “Probably one of the first really big gigs that I had. So, yeah, I remember that was a very exciting time for me and it was fun to be around the people. At that point, it was probably the first time I had ever even done a completely Asian show.”

There’s another important component to the fest—community building.

“Another big arm of the festival is partnering with Asian-owned small businesses and bringing those in,” said Moran. “They are wonderful product sponsors and they donate products that we then are able to raffle off to raise funds for our charity. The festival partners with an Asian run charity every year, a nonprofit that benefits the Asian community. At the end of the day everything we do is about uplifting our community.”

Since its founding the festival has raised over $22,500 for local AAPI charities. This year the fest will donate money to Welcome to Chinatown , a nonprofit organization addressing the critical needs of the Chinatown community. According to Moran, the festival wants to build on the community aspect and would also like to find more ways to support Asian comedians, to possibly raise funds for a fellowship or grant for up-and-coming comedians. Having done stand-up, she knows how hard it can be,

“That’s something that we don't really see right now,” said Moran. “I mean, there might be something out there focused on up-and-coming API comedians who want to pursue their dreams, who are maybe working on one-person shows or a book and need funds to do so. As Youngmi can attest, it’s not a high paying career. So, if we can help supplement some people’s artistic dreams and help get more voices out there, we’d love to be part of that conversation.”

This year’s festival will be hosted at New York City’s Sugar Mouse , the sister location to AAPI-owned Sour Mouse. Performances take place on May 7, 14, and 15.

Blue Raiders cruise past Lions 9-2

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  - Middle Tennessee baseball was "Bubbles Up" after defeating North Alabama 9-2 on Jimmy Buffet night at the Reese.

The Blue Raiders (15-29, 5-13 C-USA) shut down the Lions (14-28, 9-15 ASUN) with runners threatening in the top of the first inning with the first of two six-four-three double plays of the evening. 

Both offenses were at a stalemate until Gabe Jennings unloaded on a baseball to hit his first career grand slam to open up the scoring in the third inning and give MTSU a four-run lead. 

He was followed by Jackson Galloway , who hit his sixth round-tripper of the year to make the score 6-0 in the fifth frame. 

On the mound, Dylan Alonso was sensational, going six innings, with six strikeouts in the longest outing of his career. 

In the seventh inning, Briggs Rutter added to his team-leading 13 home runs on the season, marking his fourth homer in three consecutive games. 

North Alabama added a run in the eighth to break the shut-out for the Blue Raiders, but MTSU answered back scoring a run of their own on Luke Vinson's eighth double of the year in the bottom of the frame making the score 8-1. 

The Lions would tack on another solo in the top of the ninth, but that wasn't enough as the Blue Raiders would go on to win 9-2.

Nobody is going to be super glad about playing us in the tournament, because we have shown what we can put together from our offensive outbursts to great pitching at times."

Lopez vs. Lopez , which teamed legendary comedian George Lopez with real-life daughter Mayan Lopez for primetime, ends its second season on April 30 without any news of a future beyond the 2024 TV schedule . So, with the show on the bubble, let's look at Lopez vs. Lopez Season 2, the other comedies that have not yet been renewed, and what NBC's schedule could look like for the fall.

The second season of Lopez vs. Lopez debuted not too long after George Lopez received a Lifetime Achievement Award , which prompted the comedy legend as well as daughter Mayan and showrunner Debby Wolfe to open up about how much the industry has changed over the course of his career . Unfortunately, his off-screen accomplishments didn't translate to Season 3 renewal ahead of the second season finale. The wait is still on.

On the whole, that shouldn't be taken as a sign of doom for fans of Lopez vs. Lopez . It was one of NBC's three comedies for the early months of 2024, and neither of the other two have been renewed at the time of writing either.

That said, it's not lost on me that while Night Court and Extended Family aired one episode weekly for their second and first seasons, respectively, NBC quickly burned through the ten-episode Season 2 of Lopez vs. Lopez within the month of April, with two episodes each Tuesday night.

NBC's Full Comedy Slate

NBC's lineup was light on laughs in 2024 following the WGA writers strike , with Night Court , Extended Family , and Lopez vs. Lopez as the only sitcom options, and the latter not arriving until April. At the time of writing, Night Court is not yet set for a third season despite a successful Season 2, and Extended Family – boasting sitcom veterans Jon Cryer , Donald Faison, and Mike O'Malley – is also on the list of series not yet renewed or cancelled .

The most recent report from Deadline on all three shows' renewal odds stated that Night Court was most likely to be renewed, with conversations happening with production company Warner Bros TV. Extended Family (which made some huge BTS changes ) and Lopez vs. Lopez were listed as on the bubble, although it's worth noting that this most recent report was from mid-April. There have been no updates since more episodes of George Lopez's show have aired.

NBC's 2024-2025 TV Schedule

While the network has not yet announced a full schedule for the TV season starting in the fall, there is enough information for some guesses. Despite renewing mainstays like One Chicago and two of the three Law & Order shows early on, Quantum Leap was cancelled, and La Brea ended after an abbreviated third season. Those are the only scripted cancellations at the time of writing, although Law & Order: Organized Crime is reportedly moving to streaming for Peacock subscribers .

And there are currently two sitcoms in the works: St. Denis Medical , starring Wendi Mclendon-Covey in her first new post- Goldbergs role, and a potential sitcom starring The Voice 's Reba McEntire. The former was intended for a spot in the 2023-2024 TV schedule before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, while McEntire's project has not yet received a series order.

So, while there will be some vacancies in NBC's lineup due to shows that ended, were cancelled, or (probably) moved to streaming, there are also some other shows in the works. It's possible that the fate of Lopez vs. Lopez could depend on the network's reactions to the Reba McEntire pilot, but unfortunately, we can only wait and hope for good news.
