French Brothers Boat Trips

French Brothers have been operating riverboats on the Thames since 1978. They have grown to become one of the largest passenger boat operators in the UK & now have a fleet of 13 large boats with capacities of up to 180 passengers.

French Brothers offer a huge range of public boat trips & special events along the Upper Thames. These include round trips as well as trips between riverside towns.

The Windsor 40 minute trip is one of our most popular. Departing regularly from Windsor Promenade.

This is our most wheelchair friendly trip and really popular with young kids.

A great way to travel to Windsor by avoiding the traffic, returning back to Maidenhead in the afternoon.

This includes an option for a Cream Tea Hamper for advanced online bookings, which is very popular.

Arrive in Windsor by river in time for lunch with a peaceful cruise back in the afternoon.

The Savill Garden & River Boat Cruise

Enjoy a full group day out with a visit to The Savill Garden and a return boat cruise from historic Runnymede along the River Thames. 

The cruises are run by French Brothers, and include a relaxed commentary and views of Windsor Castle. 

Historic Runnymede 

It was over 800 years ago, in 1215, that the Magna Carta was sealed by King John on the banks of the Thames at Runnymede.

The site now boasts an exquisite statue of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as The Jurors sculpture, to commemorate this landmark occasion.

• Chevron down Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Advanced purchase is highly recommended. To maximize the chance of getting the day and time you prefer, be sure to book well in advance. Tickets can be purchased online through FareHarbor. Tickets can also be purchased with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex or cash) at the ticket booth starting 1 hour prior to departure. Tickets for Dinner Cruises must be purchased in advance. They can be purchased online or through our business office by credit card.

• Chevron down Is the cruise narrated?

Our 2 hour Sightseeing Cruises are narrated including the Gordie Howe Bridge Tour. Throughout the cruise we will point out the historic sites as well as their history and other highlights as we approach them.

• Chevron down What happens if it rains?

The cruise will run regardless of weather. However, if the Captain deems the weather dangerous, we will cancel the cruise. In the event that we cancel a cruise, you will receive a refund or the option to reschedule.

• Chevron down Is there shade or air-conditioning on the boat?

The Macassa Bay has a Dining Room with heat/air conditioning. The top deck has a canopy that cover 3/4 of upper level. The stern deck is covered by the top deck.

• Chevron down Can I purchase food or beverages on board?

Yes, our upper deck has a full service bar onboard the vessel. Special Event  cruises the dining room bar will also be open. We a variety of beer, coolers, wine, mixed drinks as well as signature cocktails including a variety non-alcoholic beverages. We also offer 0% beer and a variety of specialty non-alcoholic cocktails as well. At our snack bar we have food fare that fits everyone’s budget from hot dogs to burrata cheese ball with blistered grapes, charcuterie boards, hummus & bread, flatbread, cheese and grape plates, nacho and salsa, homemade parfaits and ice cream sandwiches. We also have available our Macassa Picnic-A gourmet charcuterie board.  Pre-order recommended online at time of ticket purchase. Please note we accept credit, debit and cash payments onboard the boat.

• Chevron down Can I bring my own food or beverages on the boat?

No, outside food, alcohol or any beverages are not allowed on board the boat. Personal water bottles are also prohibited.

• Chevron down Do cruises run year round?

No, our season runs from May to October. Phones and email are answered all year round.

• Chevron down Do you need a passport? Are there any stops along the way?

No passport required. We will be viewing all of the beautiful sights from the boat and will not be stopping to get off the boat at any time during the cruise.

• Chevron down Is the boat wheelchair accessible?

Yes, we are wheel chair accessible.  We can usually accommodate manual wheelchairs and mechanical wheelchairs and motorized scooters. We will do our best to accommodate disabled persons to the extent that our vessel will allow. We have 3 decks. Upper main and lower. Passengers board on the middle deck and the decks are separated by stairs (no elevators on board). There are several handicapped parking spaces in the lot near our ticket office for easy access to the boat. If you or someone in your group is in a wheelchair or has limited mobility, contact us to discuss accessibility. We will do our best to accommodate disabled persons to the extent that our vessel will allow.

• Chevron down Is the boat safe? Is it Transport Canada certified?

The Macassa Bay is Transport Canada Certified. We follow all requirements and safety measures required by Transportation Canada. Macassa Bay is meticulously maintained. We follow all Transport Canada regulations, including having enough life jackets for all passengers on board. Please pay attention to the safety announcement at the start of the cruise for details on where the life jackets are located. Please note that you are not required to wear life jackets during the cruise.

• Chevron down Is tip included in the ticket price?

Tip for the crew is not included in the ticket price. While they are greatly appreciated, tips are completely up to guests. Upon booking a dinner cruise gratuity is not included and greatly appreciated the evening of your cruise.

• Chevron down Is there a restroom on the boat?

Yes, there are two restrooms available on the lower deck of the boat.

• Chevron down Is smoking allowed on the boat?

We kindly ask passengers to refrain from smoking on the boat.

Service animals are welcomed and permitted onboard.

• Chevron down Do you offer a group discount?

Yes, we do offer a discount for large groups of 25 or more adults (anyone 12 and over)! Group tickets must be purchased in advance. Contact us for more information or to book your group reservation.

• Chevron down Where should I park at the departure location?

There are two parking lots located nearby. One is directly in front of the ship and the other lot is located West of our ticket booth along the river, both lots include designated handicapped spots. Additional parking in paid parking garages as follows:

3. 132 Ferry St

4. 275 Pitt St. W

Unless specific dinner or lunch cruises were purchased, your ticket price permits you admission for the cruise. Special Event Cruises have 1 hour boarding time. Food & beverage are NOT included in price and can be purchased onboard all cruises.

• Chevron down Is there an age limit to board?

Our 2 hour cruises are for all ages. The 3 hour evening cruises are geared for adults. Children can board with adult ticket purchased. Our Special Event cruises are strictly for 19*. All passengers for these events must be legal drinking age.

Large bags are prohibited. Small purses are allowed. All bags are subject to search.

Arriving at Windsor Riverside station and stepping out into the beautiful sunshine, we were excited to get to the cruise and begin our three course dining experience. It was only a short distance to the dock, with a pleasant walk alongside the River Thames before we got to the river boat.

It was great to be welcomed aboard by a very friendly member of the crew, who also showed us to our table. I was very impressed by the overall layout and luxury interior of the boat, with the elegant dining style and the attention to detail. Our seats were right by the large arching windows that ensured an uninterrupted view throughout our journey.

As the boat left the dock towards Windsor’s beautiful green landscape, the audio commentary began by welcoming everyone aboard and providing fascinating facts along the journey. I appreciated that the commentary wasn’t continuous throughout the entire experience as although it was nice to find out about the remarkable history of Windsor, I also found that the quietness of the boat and relaxed atmosphere was ideal for a sociable lunch cruise.

Once we had received our drinks, the starter of smoked fish began coming out. In all honesty, I usually don’t order fish, however, the presentation of the food when it came out was outstanding and I couldn’t resist trying. I was completely amazed by the mouth-watering flavours and just had to finish the plate off, this was definitely my favourite course from the lunch.

Due to the warm weather, it was very busy along the river and I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of people waving as they went past in their various different boats. The views were captivating as we went along the Thames and we got to see the true natural beauty of Windsor. The main course was seared breast of Caldecott’s farm chicken with croquettes and a mix of vegetables. Instantly, I was overwhelmed by the generous portion size and was very eager to tuck in!

After two amazing courses, I was very content with the food I had received. I felt that the light pudding of blueberry crumble cheesecake was exactly the right choice to finish off with. The taste really was delightful.

Just before returning to the dock we were served the Fairtrade tea and coffee to complete the fantastic experience. Even at the end with the relaxed atmosphere, there was no rush to leave the boat, which was lovely to be able to take our time.

The three course Windsor lunch cruise was an exceptional experience, the presentation, and taste of the food was excellent, the views we got to witness were remarkable and the service was to a very high standard. Thank you again to the Bateaux Windsor team for having us, we had a really great time!

Daily Cruises

Below are four cruises that we will run on a daily schedule. You can book a table or even buy a voucher as a present. These cruises are available from April to December.

We will be serving a set menu, so please look at our menus to see what we do and when. We can also tailor dishes to your dietary needs. However, we must know this in advance.

During the cruise, you will travel briefly upriver to Boulters lock, where we will turn around to head under Maidenhead bridge and the Sounding Arch before passing the stunning homes of the Millionaires Row. Then we pass the Waterside Inn before travelling through Bray Lock. After the lock, depending on the time, we will either turn or carry on past Monkey Island and go round Queens Eyot before returning to Maidenhead .

Santa Cruise

Due to this very strange year, Santa has asked if we can help spread some Christmas cheer. Therefore we have put together our very special new Santa Cruise!

Our Santa Cruise is an hour and a half long departing from and returning to Maidenhead Riverside Gardens, SL6 8NP.

As to not miss out on all the fun, whilst Santa’s sleigh is being serviced and the reindeer are taking a rest, Santa will be driving our boat instead! Make sure you look out for him when boarding the boat.

During this cruise you will have your own private table for your family on which there will be a Christmas activity pack for the children as well as a festive platter of savoury and sweet treats to enjoy. Toward the end of the cruise, Santa will join us, making his way around the vessel, to hand out a small gift to the children on his nice list!

French Brothers run boat trips on the River Thames from Windsor and Runnymede. Choose from a short return trip or a full-day cruise.

Day visitors to Windsor can choose either a short 40-minute round trip or a longer 2-hour return; both offer amazing views of Windsor Castle. Discounted tickets can be booked online, with further discounts available for groups of 20 or more. Groups of 20+ should contact the bookings office . 

There are two scheduled services offering visitors to Windsor the opportunity to take the boat and cruise to this historic town arriving in style. With regular sailings from Runnymede, groups and individuals can enjoy a cruise to Windsor in the morning with the option to catch the return service in the afternoon. 

All of the French Brothers fleet are available for private charter. They are perfect for all milestone events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding receptions and social functions. With a fleet of 16 craft including modern vessels and two genuine coal-fired steamboats they have a cruise to suit all tastes and budgets. 

Corporate customers can charter a boat for an off-site dinner as part of a conference, offering a refreshing change of scenery. The River Thames is easily accessible from all of the town centre and riverside hotels. 

Longer trips can be booked to include a marvellous boxed afternoon tea to enjoy as you cruise. There is an extensive programme of special events on our fantastic Victorian steam boats. These can all be booked online at www.frenchbrothers.co.uk
