- Enticing_Scarab 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Incredible day out for family and friends We’ve done the factory tour and the off-road experience, both were absolutely fantastic days out! Chris Sherman at JLR was our off-road experience guide and he’s absolutely fabulous, he directly made the day even more enjoyable with his calmness and experience. Massive thank-you to him 😊 Read more Written 9 March 2024
- Timmyatt59 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Very professional instructor The instructor was excellent the vehicle was excellent the whole experience was fantastic. These guys really know what their cars are about and the amazing capabilities. Awesome day ! Read more Written 1 May 2023
- bigcaravanadventure 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great venue, lovely staff, fab experience. This is my second off road experience day - the previous at the experience Centre in Honiton. The initial meet and greet was spot on - Tracy was very welcoming and her team provided yummy biscuits and drinks! This Solihull venue is the very best. The instructor Phil was really knowledgeable and lets you ‘just get in with it’ whilst giving expert guidance throughout and lots of interesting facts about the factory past and present. We asked for a new Defender and that’s what we got. We had a previous bad experience test driving one through our local dealership so the chance to really put one through its paces was ideal - and we took it to the limits I’m sure! A fab venue, awesome course, steps, ruts, deep water and more - you’ll have a great time here! One word of caution - although the vehicle can seat five people, we were a family of 4 but only three people allowed with the instructor at any one time, meaning someone had to stay behind. We could swap halfway through so not a major issue, but I think this should be made much clearer when booking. I’m off to scour the internet for the best deal to buy a new Defender! We’ll be back 👍🏻 Read more Written 22 December 2022
- karene5173 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Unforgettable experience My husband booked this for our 25 wedding anniversary as a Landrover enthusiast but I found the car and the tuition so amazing that I was able to control the car on all the terrain too. It was great fun driving through 1 metre deep water, down steps and across steep inclines. Read more Written 29 July 2022
- RobLusher74 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles The most fun you will have at 3mph! I did a 1hr taster drive in a Range Rover, absolutely fantastic, Chris was a great instructor, explaining technique, car functions, settings and the history of the site. It's incredible what these vehicles will do and probably 95% of people will never even take them off road! The welcome you get is very VIP, tea/coffee and a lovely welcome centre, plus you get a good view of the factory as you drive round the site to the Experience Centre. Read more Written 21 June 2022
- Nick26654 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Huge course, great cars Very happy overall, the course was huge, we got a good amount of time in the car and the staff were helpful and friendly. The only disappointment is the modern automatic cars - they pretty much do everything by themselves so everything seemed too easy (despite the course being quite challenging actually). So didn't learn any real off road driving skills, just learned what settings to choose and how good the car was (and it really was good, we seriously considered buying one during the activity - didn't last long though, only until we realised how much it actually cost). - Sarah M 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles LANDROVER EXPERIENCE 2021 Had a free voucher when purchasing the car, Decided to book and use the voucher and so glad I did! Didn’t know what to expect on the day, we chose to do the experience in the defender which was a wonderful vehicle! We were greeted my the LR team who were very welcoming, we enjoyed a hot drink and biscuit before we were briefed The instructor Jo was awesome! Started with introductions and what we wanted out of the day then we headed off for our experience We went in identical vehicles Jo up front with walkie-talkie and we follow behind, we had information about the site and the history of LR as well as pointing out interesting facts & wildlife The communication of what we needed to do with the vehicle before each section was clear to follow (following the car in front was also really helpful , having a visual helped) My son did the first half of the experience and he was great and loved everything about it, Jo was very encouraging which gives the confidence to do the experience My other half was up next and we he did the jungle course which was incredible! Cannot believe what these vehicles can do! He also loved everything, I really enjoyed the experience even though I was scared of everything, I didn’t want to drive I did a small bit to experience the defender and enjoyed it, maybe next time I will try a little bit more Although I didn’t experience the things my crew did the whole day was incredible! Jo was fantastic , I would definitely book to go back I didn’t realise you could purchase these experiences but now I do I would definitely book another, I have since purchased the Jaguar F Pace experience for my son I was amazing at what these vehicles can do and for me when I come across a deep puddle my car can go through it and I don’t have to turn around ! - deejaybee1408 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best experience ever! I booked the half day Land Rover experience for my hubbies 40th. He chose to drive the Ranger Rover, which was an absolutely beautiful vehicle. All of the staff we met at the centre were unbelievably friendly, helpful and attentive. Our instructor was a Phil and he was a total legend! He really made the experience special with his friendliness, knowledge, reassurance etc. He showed us exactly how to push the car to its absolute limits! We expected him to be in the vehicle with us but due to covid restrictions, he drove separately in front and communicated via walkie talkie. We actually preferred it this way! The experience exceeded anything I could have imagined! Driving through deep water, driving down flights of steps, driving on slopes of almost 30 degrees! I have never laughed or squealed so much in my life!! I had never imagined that there could be such a beautiful woodland setting right on the edge of such a large manufacturing site. It was a really beautiful location and amazing to see the JLR site as we drove through it. Thank you JLR Solihull and Phil especially, for a wonderful experience. We would definitely recommend this and will hopefully be back again soon! Read more Written 2 May 2021

Has anyone toured the Solihull factory? I am planning a trip to London in the spring and wanted to take the "Home of the Legend" Tour, half day of tour and half day of off roading. UK Members, How far is London from Solihull by train? Is it pretty easy to get to? Marc
I did it 4 weeks ago and although rather expensive (£170!), it is worth every penny/cent! I did the "Gold" tour which includes a buffet lunch and an afternoon out on the rough stuff in a variety of Landies at the factory's very own Land Rover Experience. We drove G4 V8 RR, G4 V6 Freelander and a G4 Defender 110 over both the LRE site and the factory testing ground called The Jungle. Solihull is very easy to get to from London, but the factory will be a bit of a taxi ride from the station. Birmingham International Airport is very close so it might be worth your while getting flights in and out of the USA to Birmingham rather than London! Train access from London is easy and takes just over an hour to Birmingham International Station For more details you can email them at [email protected] and I think there is a link from the UK landrover website at http://www.landrover.co.uk click on the link to Land Rover Experience or Home of the Legend To give you some idea of the distance from the factory from the station of airport key the postcode B92 8NW into this website : http://www.streetmap.co.uk
Definitely go for it! I went for the gold package too back in October. I was staying in London so I took a train from Euston Station to Birmingham. I brought my father along and we had a great time. I'm the Land Rover enthusiast, but he really enjoyed it too. He didn't want to do the CommandShift on the off-road, so the guide let him use total auto. He actually had us try some stuff he had never done before in total auto and it was really impressive. My local dealer does some good off-road events and actually had one the weekend before the visit, so I got to try the RR driving on both sides of the car. It was my first real experience with RHD, so it made it very interesting, especially driving the manual Defender. I did get to see the Range Rover Sport press dies & we had one camoflaged driving behind us. But the thing that I still remember is all the LR3's. They were everywhere, every lot, along the sides of the roads, etc... The factory was really interesting and really informative. I'm going to do it again when I'm back over there. well, whatever it costs, it sure is worth (from what im reading from everybody) the cash to really screw around in a rover that isnt yours! Im planning on going to Europe for the first time in my life and im considering swinging by this "Solihull".
Couple of points to add: All the staff on the HOTL are factory employees, they have all worked at Land Rover for years and they really know their products. The guy that took us round had been the Chief Developement Engineer on both RR3 and Freelander, what he didn't know wasn't worth knowing! AND he did things in a Freelander that we would never have believed possible had we not been sat in it at the time! On the same site as the LR Experience the factory has on display some very rare and valuable motors - the taxi from the movie Judge Dredd, HRH the Queen Mother's last RR LSE, various prototype Landies and some odditities. We drove round the LRE in a very rare G4 RR with all the offroading toys - value £80000, and you though your RR cost a lot! If it has been raining a lot you will love the Jungle run....................... wading in a Defender 110 with water up over the bonnet what fun, and it didn't leak one drop of water either which makes it one rare Defender! You should also find some time to travel about 50 miles south of Birmingham to LR and Aston Martins Research Centre which is also home to the British Motor Heritage Centre, which is a fantastic museum of British Motoring right on LR's design centre! See what exoctic LR's and A.M.s are out testing during your visit! That site is at Gaydon here is a link to their website: http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ If you cannot make it to the factory but still want to play in a Landy then Land Rover also run some great offroading centres round the UK. You have to book and the are expensive but agian well worth the cost as you get to drive the LR of your choice all day offroad with an intructor. There are 9 LR Experience Cntres round the UK, most in some very spectacular and scenic parts of the country. More details are at http://www.landrover.co.uk click on the link to the LR Experience or email [email protected] - this lady runs the show at LRE and HOTL
