The 7 golfers with the most PGA Tour wins

The 7 golfers with the most PGA Tour wins

Following Tiger Woods' Tour Championship win to finish the 2018 season, he picked up his first major championship win at the 2019 Masters after an 11-year drought.

Tiger now trails Sam Snead by just one PGA Tour win.

Here are the seven players with the most PGA Tour wins of all time.

most career senior pga tour wins

7. Billy Casper

PGA Tour wins: 51

Most wins in a year: 6 (1968)

First win: 1956 Labatt Open

Last win: 1975 First NBC New Orleans Open

Notes:  Casper won on the PGA Tour in 16 consecutive seasons, which is the second-longest run behind Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus' 17 years in a row with a win. The U.S. was undefeated in Casper's nine Ryder Cup appearances and he has the most points in the Ryder Cup of any American golfer ever.

most career senior pga tour wins

6. Byron Nelson

PGA Tour wins : 52

Most wins in a year: 18 (1945)

First win: 1935 New Jersey State Open

Last win: 1951 Bing Crosby Pro-Am

Notes: Nelson only won one major in 1945, but his performance that season could go down as the best season in the history of the PGA Tour. His 18 wins in '45 included victories in Phoenix, Corpus Christi, New Orleans, Miami, Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham, Atlanta, Montreal, Philadelphia, Chicago, Knoxville and Seattle.

5. Arnold Palmer

PGA Tour wins : 62

Most wins in a year: 8 (1960)

First win: 1955 Canadian Open

Last win: 1973 Bob Hope Desert Classic

Notes: There was something special about Palmer at majors in years that ended in an even number. He won the Masters in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964, along with the U.S. Open in 1960 and The Open Championship in 1962. Palmer never won the PGA Championship but he finished tied for second in 1964, 1968 and 1970.

most career senior pga tour wins

4. Ben Hogan

PGA Tour wins : 64

Most wins in a year: 13 (1946)

First win: 1938 Hershey Four-Ball

Last win: 1959 Colonial National Invitational

Notes: Hogan had a six-year stretch from 1948 to 1953 that was as impressive as any golfer's performance in major championships. He completed the career grand slam in that span, winning eight of his nine career majors, including four victories at the U.S. Open.

3. Jack Nicklaus

PGA Tour wins : 73

Most wins in a year: 7 (1972)

First win: 1962 U.S. Open

Last win: 1986 Masters

Notes: With 18 majors, roughly a quarter of The Golden Bear's PGA Tour wins came in majors. While his peak season in terms of number of PGA Tour wins only included seven victories – the second-lowest total among players on this list – Nicklaus sustained a remarkable level of success for more than 15 years.

From 1962 to 1978, Nicklaus won at least two PGA Tour events every year and an average of four per season.

most career senior pga tour wins

2. Tiger Woods

PGA Tour wins :  81

Most wins in a year: 9 (2000)

First win: 1996 Las Vegas Invitational

Last win: 2019 Masters Tournament

Notes: Despite ranking second on this list, Tiger Woods won fewer PGA Tour events in his 30s than the other six players. Had Tiger not had his health issues, he likely would already have the most PGA Tour wins ever and potentially put his win total out of reach for years to come.

But Tiger returned to his winning ways at the 2018 Tour Championship, winning by two shots for his first PGA Tour win in five years. He followed that with his first major championship win since 2008 by capturing the 2019 Masters.

most career senior pga tour wins

1. Sam Snead

PGA Tour wins : 82

Most wins in a year: 11 (1950)

First win: 1936 West Virginia Closed Pro

Last win: 1965 Greater Greensboro Open

Notes: Snead's 29-year gap between his first and last wins on the PGA Tour is by far the largest of any player on this list. You could also make the case Snead was the Phil Mickelson of his day, in the sense that he was one of the best players of his era who came oh-so-close to completing the career grand slam time and time again.

Snead won seven majors but never the U.S. Open, where he finished second or tied for second in 1937, 1947, 1949 and 1953. Mickelson has five majors and six runner-up finishes at the U.S. Open.

Jack Nicklaus , the golfer many analysts rate as the best ever, won 73 times in PGA Tour tournaments. That's third-best all-time , behind only Sam Snead and Tiger Woods. But Nicklaus' total of 73 wins includes 18 in major championships , which is the record.

Nicklaus won his first PGA Tour tournament in 1962 and his last in 1986. The most tournaments he won in a single PGA Tour season was seven, a number Nicklaus hit several times. Nicklaus won at least once on the tour every year from 1962 through 1978, a 17-year-stretch that shares the tour record for consecutive years with a victory.

Nicklaus' Wins on the Champions Tour (10)

Once Nicklaus reached age 50, he began playing on the senior circuit, the Champions Tour. But Nicklaus played sparingly on that tour, which explains why his 10 career wins don't rank very high on the Champions Tour career wins list . Eight of those wins, however, were in senior majors, and for many years that was the record.

Which golfer has the most career senior major championship wins?

most career senior pga tour wins

In professional golf, the measure of a player's greatness is most commonly linked with how many majors they win in their career. For female professional golfers specifically, there are five majors the best senior players in the world seek to win as many times as possible to cement their place in golf lore: the Tradition, the Senior Players Championship, the US Senior Open, the Senior British Open Championship and the Senior PGA Championship.

Conceivably, being the golfer with the most career major championship titles makes that golfer the best 50-plus golfer ever. The golfer with the most career PGA Tour Champions major championship titles is Bernhard Langer, winning 10 in his career.

Jack Nicklaus is second on the list with nine, though Gary Player claims to have won nine since three of his Senior British Open titles don't count since they weren't a major when he won them.

Hale Irwin is third (or fourth) on the list with seven senior major wins.

Bernhard Langer wins U.S. Senior Open, sets mark for career wins on PGA Tour Champions

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Bernhard Langer won the U.S. Senior Open on Sunday at SentryWorld to break the PGA Tour Champions' career victory record.

Pushing his record as the oldest winner on the 50-and-over tour to 65 years, 10 months, 5 days, the German star broke a tie with Hale Irwin for the victory mark with No. 46.

"I have my mother that's going to be 100 on August 4th, so I think I have good genes," Langer said. "Hopefully, I'll be around a few more years."

Seven strokes ahead on the back nine, Langer bogeyed the final three holes for 1-under 70 and a two-stroke victory over home-state favorite Steve Stricker on the tree-lined course with thick rough.

"Never thought it would happen at a U.S. Senior Open, but I'm very thrilled that the record of 46 wins happened this week," Langer said. "It's certainly one of the greatest tournaments we ever compete in, and to beat this field, where everybody was here, especially Stricker and [Jerry] Kelly on their home grounds, is a very special feeling."

Langer finished at 7-under 277, with only eight players breaking par for the week. He shattered the tournament age record set by Allen Doyle in 2006 at Prairie Dunes at 57 years, 11 months, 14 days.

"There are a lot more aches and pains than 10 years ago," Langer said. "I still enjoy the game. If I play like I did this week, I'm going to keep playing. There have been the odd week when I thought, 'What were you doing out here? Go home and play with the grandkids.'"

The two-time Masters champion has a record 13 victories since turning 60 and holds the top five spots on the oldest winners list. He has multiple victories in 11 straight seasons and 14 overall.

Also the 2010 U.S. Senior Open winner at Sahalee outside Seattle, Langer extended his record for senior major victories to 12. He won the Chubb Classic in Florida in February to tie Irwin.

Stricker -- from Madison, 100 miles to the south -- birdied three of the last five holes for a 69.

"It gives all of us hope, I guess, that are out here still playing that we can continue to play as good as he's played for such a long time," Stricker said about Langer. "It's really impressive. I knew he wasn't going to back off today."

Stricker won the first two senior majors of the year and took his hometown Madison event three weeks ago for his fourth Champions victory of the season.

"It seemed like I had a poor nine holes in there every day, and that just ended up costing me the tournament," Stricker said.

Kelly, also from Madison, was third at 4 under after a 71.

"I was way too amped up," Kelly said. "I was trying to be settled and calm, but I was talking more than I have all week. I was moving a little bit faster than I have all week."

Two shots ahead of Kelly entering the round, Langer birdied the first two holes for the second straight day.

Langer added a birdie on No. 5, then rounded from a bogey on No. 6 with birdie on No. 7. He opened the back nine with a birdie on the 10th, parred the next five and closed with the three straight bogeys.

"It was not easy," said Langer, who earned a spot next year in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. "My age probably showed up toward the end."

Brett Quigley (66) and Rob Labritz (69) tied for fourth at 2 under. Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen (71), Steven Alker (65) and Dicky Pride (69) were 1 under.

"The rough was difficult and, as many fairways as I missed, I think I did OK," Goosen said. "I was like a cow out there just eating cabbage the whole time."

Langer, paired with Goosen the first two rounds, sacrificed distance for accuracy to stay out of the rough.

"I think that's one of the reasons I did so well. I didn't hit it in the rough very often," Langer said. "Took many 3-woods off the tees at times, but then I had to hit 3-wood into the green or a very long club. But I'd rather do that than hit driver and wedge it out from the rough."

Sahith Theegala’s “epic” reaction to Scottie Scheffler lapping PGA Tour field

Theegala is in contention at the RBC Heritage, but is of course chasing Scottie Scheffler, like everyone else.

WM Phoenix Open - Final Round, Sahith Theegala, Scottie Scheffler

Sahith Theegala continues to impress for such a young golfer.

Theegala carded a 4-under 67 Saturday to move into a tie for fourth with one round remaining at the RBC Heritage , the latest PGA Tour Signature Event .

He posted three birdies to go with one bogey on both the front and back nines, closing with a par-breaker on 18.

Yet, after his round all of the talk in the media room was about Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler once again leads a tournament heading into Sunday. Scheffler carded a bogey-free 8-under 63 Saturday to take the outright lead at 16-under. Theegala is three back.

After the former Pepperdine Wave finished his round, he was asked his thoughts on what Scheffler is accomplishing in the sport.

RBC Heritage - Round Three, Sahith Theegala

“It’s pretty epic... I grew up watching the end of Tiger, got to see Rory, DJ, Jordan, like all these guys kind of dominate for a period of time, and I was like, we could be in the midst of something really, really special, and I just thought it was cool,” Theegala explained.

Scheffler is looking to win his fourth tournament in his last five starts. Even more impressive is the fact that the wins have been at the Arnold Palmer Invitational , The Players Championship and The Masters.

Those are three of the most stacked fields you will find.

His dominance has likely left a number of players on Tour frustrated, but not Theegala.

“It’s got to be annoying for some of the guys, but I love it. I still think I have a way to go to really prove myself that I am, I would say, a top-15,-10 player in the world. I haven’t gotten to that point quite yet.

“I’m not annoyed, I’m just kind of sitting back, and it’s honestly really cool to see.”

Scheffler is playing otherworldly right now. We have not witnessed someone play this well, this consistently since prime Tiger Woods .

Theegala then summed it up for everyone perfectly.

“It gives us something to strive for.”

PGA TOUR Champions

Inspired by Aaron Rodgers, Bernhard Langer making rapid return to PGA TOUR Champions

Change Text Size

Bernhard Langer will make his PGA TOUR Champions return at next week’s Insperity Invitational presented by United Healthcare, just three months after the 66-year-old tore his left Achilles tendon.

“Statistically, they say that guys win the most tournaments from age 50 to 55 on the PGA TOUR Champions, and then they kind of drop off,” Langer said in a statement. “I’m trying to continue to prove them wrong.”

“Part of my training is doing other things, like ping-pong and other sports," Langer said. "So I played pickleball with some of my friends. My opponent lobbed me and I did a few steps back, jumped up and hit it and as I landed, I heard this loud noise and pain in my leg. I went down on the ground and at first I thought I hit something walking backwards but as I looked around there me was nothing there and I realized most likely it’s a torn Achilles tendon.

“I immediately started talking about, ‘Well, what does this mean?” he continued. "Because I had no idea, how long will I be out? Will I ever be back?”

Bernhard Langer’s remarkable recovery after Achilles injury

Langer's doctors quickly alleviated his worries, projecting a full recovery if he followed the physical therapy plan. Langer spent more than a month wearing a boot on his left foot but shed it by the end of March when he was able to stand on his own for the first time. Shortly after, he was cleared to begin working out and hitting balls.

“That was an amazing feeling, that I can actually stand again because I didn’t stood for weeks,” Langer said.

Langer found inspiration in New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who underwent the same Achilles surgery last September. Rodgers’ accelerated timeline, which allowed the star quarterback to throw a football within three months, provided Langer a roadmap.

“That lifted my spirits, hearing he was back on the field throwing the ball after eight or nine weeks," Langer said. "That encouraged me that I may do something similar."

Bernhard Langer | Swing Theory | Driver, iron, wedge

It’s a remarkable recovery for Langer, who has defied his age and expectations many times before. Langer has won more than 130 professional golf tournaments around the world throughout his career. A three-time winner on the PGA TOUR, including the 1985 and 1993 Masters, Langer also has 12 major victories on the PGA TOUR Champions. He is one of only five players to have won tournaments on all six continents where golf is played. He has played on 10 Ryder Cup teams and captained the European squad to victory in 2004.

Langer won twice last year, including the U.S. Senior Open, to pass Hale Irwin for most victories on Champions Tour. Langer has finished in the top-five in more than 40 percent of his Champions Tour starts. The ageless Langer has accumulated 28 titles after the age of 57, and 13 of his wins have come following his 60th birthday. The only player to win after turning 64, which he has done four times, Langer is also the only player in history to win every major on the senior swing.

He doesn’t intend for this injury to derail that pace: “My goal was always to be the best I can be and I think if I get back to being my best again, even at my age, I still think I’m competitive and win.”

Who Will Win the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro?

most career senior pga tour wins

The fans may be missing Nelly Korda this week, but it’s doubtful that her fellow competitors are. Fresh off her fifth straight win and second career major championship victory, Korda has decided to take a week off. Even though the No. 1 player in the world will be absent, the field is still terrific at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro, as 144 competitors are ready to challenge one another for a share of a $3.75 million purse.

Seventeen of the top 25 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings are competing, and the top 65 and ties will play the weekend. The first-place finisher will take home $562,500, which is one of the largest non-major winner’s shares on Tour. Wilshire Country Club has hosted all five previous editions of this event, and the average winning score is 13-under. Wilshire is a classic design and a very tough test. Last year, Hannah Green won with a four-day total of 9-under as the layout played like a true major test.

The weather will be dry and moderately windy this week. Temperatures are forecasted in the mid-70s, and the par-71 layout measuring 6,447 yards will play much like it should. It’s fun to see any Tour compete at a classic venue, and this setting amongst the Hollywood Hills always gives fans tremendous theater. To predict the winner among this betting board, let’s take the traditional approach and look at the last two leaderboards.

The two most impactful strokes-gained categories that correlate to success around Wilshire Country Club are approach play and putting. The top 10 from the 2022 and 2023 leaderboards gained an average of four strokes with their iron game and flat stick. Since classic courses always seem to require great approach play, keep your eye on Minjee Lee, Alison Lee, Megan Khang and Rose Zhang. Minjee Lee won here in 2019 and has earned two more top-seven results at this property.

Putting always helps on greens like those at Wilshire. Classic complexes with putting surfaces averaging 5,000 square feet in size present small targets. This championship course is nestled in a hilly city neighborhood, so when you putt, experience with the breaks and green-reading skills are required. Mao Saigo, Hyo Joo Kim, Sarah Schmelzel and Sei Young Kim lead the field in putting ability. They should have an advantage this week, with Sei Young Kim finishing inside the top six here twice.

The par-71 layout only has three par 5s, and these holes are the key to scoring. Looking at those same two groups of top-10 finishers, each played the par 3s and 4s near par. Surviving those holes will only keep you near the rest of the competitors. To contend, you must take advantage of the par 5s.

Those same 23 athletes who finished in the last two top 10s averaged 4.66 strokes on the 5s. Patty Tavatanakit, Georgia Hall, Xiyu Lin and Charley Hull lead the field in par-5 scoring. In a race to 13- or 14-under, they will have a considerable scoring advantage.

The last characteristic this year’s champion should have is a successful scrambling percentage. Small greens, a layout with 127 bunkers and 13 holes where water comes into play will make players get creative around these tiny targets. The contenders from 2022 and 2023 were successful around the greens 64% of the time, a rate that is well above the Tour average.

In this group, Ayaka Furue, Lin, Khang and Hyo Joo Kim can really score from close range. They will need to because if they don’t hit greens in regulation like Haeran Ryu, Nasa Hataoka and Hull, their short game will be tested. It becomes pretty clear by looking at those past two leaderboards what an awesome exam Wilshire Country Club is. Favor those above who are in fine recent form.

Sei Young Kim has had a sensational spring and Haeran Ryu made a serious run at The Chevron Championship. Who are you picking?

After all, that’s the point. By selecting a couple of names, you create a connection to the action. It’s fun for me to know who’s on my list, so you should definitely write your own. Once you do, the entertainment on Sundays will draw you in like a great Hollywood ending, much like the golf will this week at the JM Eagle LA Championship.
