Born and raised in the Big Bear Valley, Chris Bellows is an avid outdoorsman with skiing, mountain biking and sailing. In the early 1980's, he crewed for Hobie's catamaran in competitions in California. His love for the water has been his first love - and so here he is today as the owner and captian of the BIG BEAR QUEEN since 1989, taking over the helm from his father who was the owner and captain for decades prior.

The BIG BEAR QUEEN was built for Big Bear in 1973, replacing the Old Sierra, the original boat tour from the 1930's. The brand name of BIG BEAR QUEEN with it's original hull design has been taking passengers in Big Bear Lake for tours since 1965. This is the longest running tour for Big Bear Lake.

We went on the Big Bear Queen on Labor Day. It was extremely interesting and informative as Captain Chris is a long term resident of the area. Good value too. Review by Anne K. - Nuriootpa, Australia

Better than Miss Liberty, hands down!

Captain Chris gave a spectacular tour around the lake and it almost seemed like he steered his boat right up to the moon. His boat is wide open and can go close to the shore. If you ever want history of Big Bear Lake, this is it. Family friendly, great atmosphere! I highly recommend the Queen!!! Review by Nancy S Big Bear Lake, CA

Big Bear Queen Lake Tour

Big Bear Queen Lake Tour

Modeled after Mississippi paddlewheel boats, the Big Bear Queen Lake Tour offers leisurely boat rides.

Launched in 1973, the Big Bear Queen replaced the Old Sierra, the original boat tour dating back to the 1930s. This makes it the longest-running tour on Big Bear Lake. With its unique hull design, this iconic vessel has been captivating passengers for decades.

At the helm of this historic tour is Captain Chris Bellows, a native of Big Bear Valley and a true embodiment of the spirit of adventure. Raised in the valley, Bellows is an avid outdoorsman passionate about skiing, mountain biking, and, most importantly, sailing.

His experiences in the 1980s crewing for Hobie's catamaran in California competitions laid the foundation for his lifelong love of the water.

In 1989, Bellows took over the Big Bear Queen, continuing a family legacy, as his father had been the owner and captain for decades prior. This transition was a continuation of a tradition, a passion for sailing and sharing Big Bear's beauty with others.

What is the Time Bandit?

Time Bandit, the Big Bear Lake Pirate Ship, is a 1/3rd scale replica of a Spanish Galleon and was built by a Father and his Son from the late 60’s through the 70’s in their back yard.

It was then used in the 1981 movie release “Time Bandit.” Later it was used as a tour boat in LA Harbor, and Newport Beach at the Fun Zone. The last part of the Ship’s life at the ocean was as a private residence.

Man swinging from pirate ship

Then it was purchased by Ed & Kelly Kinsley,  refurbished, modified a bit to include more passengers, and moved to Big Bear Lake to operate as a tour boat. It took 28 different permits and 2.5 days to transport the Ship from Dana Point Boatyard to Holloway’s Marina where it is presently berthed!

I'm glad we decided to do this. I've always seen them on the lake and finally got a trip planned. It was fun and informative . Be sure to be on the boat when they say the deadline is . They take off on time. That's a good thing. Not waiting around for late comers. Was a nice calm day on the water.

I don't recommend this tour. I was really excited for this tour. I love coming up to big bear and I was excited to learn more about the history and new facts and I'm extremely disappointed with the tour I got. The captain was also the tour guide and I literally could not understand anything he said. He was older and slurring his words.

Been visiting Big Bear all my 65 yr old life and so thankful I finally discovered this lovely tour! It was incredibly relaxing being out on the lake at sunset. It is a brisk walk down the ramps to the dock. It was especially challenging for my husband who uses a cane...but he made it! We sat in chairs at the front of the boat, bottom level and couldn't have been more pleased. My only regret is that it took me so long to enjoy this beautiful tour!

big bear tours boat

This was a cool experience. I feel as many people would like this experience but it wasn't for me. I found it boring since it was a bit hard to understand what the narrator was saying. My family liked it! The boat was a good size and had two floors. We paid $35 per person.

big bear tours boat

We took the Miss Liberty tour of Lake Big Bear today. We were looking forward to sitting on the upper deck of the boat YET, there was not a cover over the top as was stated on the website. The "man" driving the boat was also the narrator, tour guide. We could not understand a word he spoke. He was mumbling, slurring his words and sounded like he had no teeth. It was an experience I was looking forward to learning about Big Bear and the area around the lake and all the celebrities who have resided there. He may have mentioned some of this but we couldn't understand him!! Such a waste of my day and money. Never take this tour you will regret it.

Photo of Nanelle P.

Could not understand anything that the Captain would say. You can't understand the houses that he is referencing about. His voice is low and slurrs his words. In between talking they use the regular radio and hear commercials. The staff as well, in giving directions weren't so friendly nor happy to have the customers support this local business. The only thing good about this trip is to see a different side of Big Bear and all the enormous houses that you don't see from the road.

Photo of Harold G.

This was a very nice ride and informative fun tour of the lake. Comfortable seating up top. Easy to reserve and pay fare online. Plenty of parking on the pier itself.

Photo of John B.

Do not make plans around these guys. Booked the tour online and scheduled our day/dinner around the 6:00 pm sunset cruise. Get to the dock at 5:30 to be told the captain canceled the cruise due to not enough people booked. There was no advance notice given. Guy inside the booth was very apologetic but, by then, our evening plans were ruined. Schedule what you can do and do what is scheduled!!

Photo of Shelly Q.

We are up in big bear for our honeymoon and Saturday was the last night, so we booked a sunset cruise. We've been looking forward to it all week, had picked out outfits etc and it was going to be the highlight of the trip. I booked and paid several days in advance. They ask you to arrive 30 min ahead of departure- we were in Lake Arrowhead for the day and made sure we left at 4:00 pm (cutting our day short) and got to the marina at 5:00 pm. We figured we'd wait in the car. At 5:30 pm I went to speak to the dock attendant and she said that we should wait on the side of the building- we'd be sent down at 6 pm. So we sat in the car and waited. 6:00 pm came, the booth was closed, the gate to the marina bolted shut and not a soul in sight. I checked my phone and saw a voice mail left at 5:15 pm- 15 minutes before you are supposed to be there, with a rushed voicemail saying that the tour was canceled because they didn't book enough people to be worth it. "I hope you find something else to do," she said. There was no apology. I tied calling the company and the office was closed. They let us waste an hour of time driving there, and an additional hour waiting at the dock with no information. My wife was in tears, she was so upset. I've contested the charge with my credit card company already, but this is completely unacceptable. As we left we saw loads of couples and families drive up to the closed gate, wondering what the hell was going on. I had to be the one to tell them the tour was canceled. I understand there may be a minimum number of passengers needed to run at a profit, but don't let people book and then cancel while they are in route. I wish we would have gone with the other company, this one didn't even give us enough of a notice to book with someone else. It felt intentional. And reading the past 1 star reviews- I wonder if the fact that we are gay factored into it. I have a small inclusive pride pin on my jacket. It was glared at before I was told to wait... and a sneer when I said we were there for our honeymoon. Stay away. Book somewhere else. Customer service is -0.

Photo of Nancy N.

My family and I experienced their fireworks tour yesterday (4th of July 2021) and we enjoyed our trip! The company was very clear and informed us everything ahead of time. They informed parking would be $40 on their lot and recommended a couple of free public parking lot options if we preferred. We took advantage of one of their free parking suggestions which was a short walk to the marina. They notified it'd be cold that late at night out in the water and we were told we could bring blankets; which I'm glad we did! All the employees were incredibly friendly. Most importantly: we had an amazing view of the fireworks show! The tickets were kind of overpriced in my opinion but at least we received an unforgettable view. If you can, I recommend you experience their fireworks viewing tour at least once.

Vessel Facts

While you’re sure to learn a plethora of useful information and tidbits while aboard the Miss Liberty, it’s also a fascinating journey in large part due to the vessel’s structure and design. At 64-feet long, Miss Liberty is a Skipperliner that was built in 1994 and stretches nearly 25-feet into the air, thus allowing the boat to hold a staggering 125 people comfortably and with room to spare! The iconic red paddle wheel on the back of the vessel is always intriguing to see as well and brings one back to a simpler time in the area’s history when paddle boats and such were the way to travel. During the trip, guests will enjoy a shaded upper deck for one to lounge around under the warm and shining sun as you breath the fresh mountain air and gaze upon the pristine waters and it’s forest cloak. You’ll also find a large main salon and many smaller seating areas perfect for changing up the vantage point along the way. Further, if you find yourself coming to visit during the fall or winter, you’ll find this heated salon the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sights while feeling warm, snug, and cozy. In addition, you’ll find that the large skipper comes complete with a restroom which is always a nice perk on a tour. A variety of snacks are available for those looking for a nibble as they enjoy the tour and entertaining narration. However, one won’t just find chips and crackers, as the boat also offers a variety of different beverages ranging from a nice refreshing soft drink, to bold wines to sip upon, to champagne for those looking for a toast, to the good old-fashioned beer which is perfect for warm days sitting upon the covered deck. For those who are coming with a large group, fear not for you’ll also find several group seating areas so that you have no need to break up the group, and can all sit, chat, and make memories as a unit sitting together. If you have any little ones coming along for the ride, you’re in luck as children under the age of 4 can ride the tour for free. However, even those that do have to pay will find that Miss Liberty is not only a great way to spend an afternoon but is also affordable. A ticket for children between the ages of 5 and 12 is $14 while an adult ticket is $23. Staff was friendly and nice and knowledgeable.

big bear tours boat

The girls were sweet and funny, making jokes with us. The guys were more reserved and focused on work, but they were more than willing to take pictures of us, and made sure we were comfortable getting on and off the kayak. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would go here again.

Your employees are awesome!

big bear tours boat

I've never been at a launch ramp and have someone that was working actually show up and help trailer the boat! Long haired almost dread lock guy walked over helped out and gave a few nice pointers. The gentleman that inspects the boat was also very nice. Hopefully they get some rain though, because the water was getting a bit shallow where you launch your boat.

It was a snap.

Rented a small pontoon for four to boat around the lake. The pontoon was very reasonably priced for a two hour rental and the yelp discount helped too. The staff was friendly and boarding the boat and getting out on the water was a snap.

Great way to see the lake and exercise! Will definitely continue to use this marina and take my friends! Thanks everyone for always giving us a great experience!

Cheapest rental prices on the lake, by far. We called around to a few and even if with discounts, none could beat Big Bear Marina's quote.

One of the Top 3 Things to Do in Big Bear Lake

A super-fantastic day zipping through the treetops of Big Bear in gorgeous weather, which was made all the more enjoyable by a very courteous, friendly, and professional staff patiently taking each and every safety precaution required. A special shout-out to Jenn in the office. Splendid, indeed!

Took my grandsons, 10 and 8. First, you have an information tutorial and safety lecture, then a van takes you up the mountain to the first stop. All the drivers are fun and will answer any questions. There are 9 zip lines, with a stop half was to rest and have some water. There is a cameraman taking shots all along the way. The entire event takes a little over 3 hours. It was a really fun experience and the boys loved it!

My 11 year old son and I did this together and we both had a lot of fun. The guides are very helpful and have a great sense of humor. Everyone on the tour was accommodated. If you're a little apprehensive about doing this don't be. The views are amazing and the zip lines are a lot of fun. My only regret is that I wish it had lasted longer.

Went out with Phil for a wonderful morning snowshoe tour. Loved it! Action tours was great at scheduling and accommodation. First time snowshoeing, wasn't sure what to expect. It was easy and so peaceful! I will definitely be back. Great option for Moms and Dads not interested in the waiting at the crazy resorts while their kids are snowboarding.

I've never gone zip lining before. There is a lot of trust you have to put into someone who is making sure you are going to be safe as you go zooming high off the ground from one tree stand to another. The good news is these guys are as good as it gets. At no time did you anyone feel unsafe or rushed. It really is a lot of fun. I would highly recommend Action Zipline Tours.

We are a family of 5 with a 13, 12 and 10 year old...and did I mention, mama is afraid of heights? I can honestly say I had an amazing time (although I'm still afraid of heights). This is a perfect zipline tour for newbies. They start you out slow and easy before hurling you down the long and fast one. The guides on the ziplines are so helpful and very encouraging - even when you scream through the treetops. I would absolutely, definitely, put this on your "to-do" list.

Norwegian Pearl

Packing for this cruise could be a breeze.

Bare Necessities Tour & Travel (a nudism-focused travel company) has announced an 11-day Caribbean cruise for nudists on Norwegian Pearl.

Although the cruise represents a new partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the company has chartered over 75 full-ship nude and clothing-optional cruises since 1990.

Norwegian Pearl has a maximum capacity of 2,394 guests with staterooms spread across seven decks. The ship offers 16 dining venues, 14 bars and lounges, a casino, and a spa, so guests will have ample opportunities to relax and socialize with people with shared interests.

In addition to the onboard entertainment on the ship, Bare Necessities typically hosts a passenger talent show and themed events.

The ship has a range of staterooms, including accommodations in The Haven , the ship-within-a-ship concept pioneered by NCL. Upscale amenities at this luxury enclave include 24-hour butler service, concierge services, keycard access, and a private sundeck.

Prices for the cruise, based on double occupancy, start at around $2000 per person and go up to more than $30,000 for a three-bedroom Garden Villa in The Haven.

FAQs on the Bare Necessities website explicitly states that clothing will be required while docked at port, in the main and specialty dining rooms, and during the Captain’s reception. Crew members are clothed throughout the cruise and all guests must be 21 years and older.

So, what do you pack in a carry-on for a nude cruise?

At a minimum, you’ll need lots of sunscreen, a swimsuit for excursions, and appropriate attire for the dining rooms.

The “Big Nude Boat” will set sail from Miami, Florida on February 3, 2025, and make stops at San Juan, Puerto Rico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; Roseau, Domenica; Port-de-France, Martinique; and Castries, San Lucia, before returning to Miami on February 14, 2025.

The itinerary includes two stops at the line’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, Bahama.

"Big Nude Boat" offers a trip to "bare-adise" on a naked cruise from Florida

By Li Cohen

Updated on: May 2, 2024 / 8:20 AM EDT / CBS News

Like to travel light? One cruise ship soon to set sail from Florida is making sure all you need is the bare necessities – no shoes, no clothes but plenty of service.

" The Big Nude Boat " will take travelers from Miami to the Caribbean on "an 11-day adventure back to Bare-adise," the website says. Setting sail from Feb. 3 through Valentine's Day 2025, the trip offers a "stress-free, clothes-free experience" during which up to 2,300 passengers can roam the ship in the nude while out at sea.

"It's our pleasure to provide you with the luxury of deciding what NOT to wear," Bare Necessities Tour and Travel says.

@cbsmornings Would you dare to set sail on a nude cruise? 🚢 Cruisebare's upcoming full-ship nude cruise, departing from Miami in February next year, is making waves. Even #TonyDokoupil is down to go. 🌊 #cruises #vacation #experience #miami #sail ♬ original sound - CBS Mornings

Passengers won't be allowed to be naked when the ship is docked, but can ditch their usual attire once they are anchored or out on the water. And when clothing is optional, standard nudist etiquette must be abided by, the website says. When sitting, nude passengers must either wear a thong or sit on a towel or some kind of fabric. And while the self-serve buffet on the pool deck is a clothes-free area, passengers must be dressed for all dining room meals – and no, bathrobes don't count.

Photos and videos will also not be permitted unless all individuals being documented give consent.

"The Big Nude Boat" is just one of the cruises offered by Bare Necessities, which says on its website that the company has been "working to break down the barriers against social nudity and make clothing-optional vacationing a viable and acceptable option for all."

"Social nudity is not a sexual activity, and we strive to dispel the misconception that it is anything but natural and beautiful," the company says. "We have made strides in the acceptance of nude vacationing and our wide range of cruise charters are a testament to our success."

Christine quinn's husband charged with child abuse, assault misdemeanors, 'selling sunset' christine quinn husband charged w/ child abuse, assault misdemeanors.

Christine Quinn 's husband has been formally charged over domestic violence incidents from back in March ... but TMZ has learned he's actually avoided felony charges.

The Los Angeles City Attorney's office tells us ... Christian Dumontet has been charged with three misdemeanors -- including child abuse/endangerment, assault, and violation of a protection order.

We're told the case was handed over to the City Attorney after the Los Angeles County D.A. concluded the case did not meet felony filing requirements -- but it was right up the City Attorney's alley, 'cause they're pursuing criminal charges.

Remember ... LAPD officers arrested Christian on back-to-back days a few months ago -- the first was after Christine claimed Christian threw a bag of glass at her in their L.A.-area home.

She alleged the bag of glass missed her but hit the couple's two-year-old ... which is when the 911 call was made. The child was transported to the hospital -- and Quinn road in the ambulance with him.

Christian allegedly returned to the home the following night, despite Christine getting an emergency protective order against him. You'll recall ... cops were called, and CD was taken into custody once again.

As we reported ... he's since filed for divorce from Christine citing irreconcilable differences ... and, asking for sole legal and physical custody of their son.

Christine's attorney, Jacqueline Sparagna tells TMZ they're extremely satisfied with the decision of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office to file charges against Christian, and they believe the filing's a crucial step forward in protecting both Christine and the couple's son.

We've reached out to Christian's legal team for comment ... so far, no word back.

Bread and bagels at The Works Cafe in downtown Portland. Photo by Aimsel Ponti

From New York-style boiled bagels to Montreal-inspired wood-fired ones, there’s lots of great bagels in southern Maine and several shops have the accolades to back that up.

In 2023, Bon Appetit named bagels from Rose Foods and Rover Bagel among the best in the country.

Two years before that,  Food & Wine Magazine put Rover, Forage and Scratch Baking Co. on its list of best bagels in the U.S.

Whether you like yours toasted with cream cheese or as the bread for your breakfast sandwich, you can find plenty of styles and flavors from Biddeford to Brunswick.

BEACH BAGELS

The offerings at Beach Bagels include a French toast and marble bagel, and the cream cheese menu comprises spreads like strawberry, olive and honey walnut. Along with breakfast sandwiches, Beach Bagels has hearty breakfast options like omelets and pancakes. Best of all, you’re steps away from a beach stroll. Just don’t let the seagulls steal your bagel. WHEN: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily WHERE: 34 Old Orchard St., Old Orchard Beach. beachbagels.yolasite.com ______________

Dutchman’s opened in 2022 as a pop-up housed at Nomad pizza in Brunswick’s Fort Andross building. It’s since become a permanent fixture there and uses the pizzeria’s wood-fired ovens to bake its bagels. The hand-shaped, honey-boiled bagels come in plain, roasted garlic, poppy and a bagel-of-the-day flavor.

WHEN: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday to Sunday WHERE: Fort Andross, 14 Maine St., Brunswick. dutchmans.me ______________

FORAGE MARKET

Making bagels at Forage Market involves a two-day aging process. The bagels are naturally leavened with wild yeast starter and baked next to a hardwood fire. There are usually five flavors available, including sesame and garlic. Breakfast sandwiches (including vegan options) are available. Forage also has a location in Lewiston. Advertisement

WHEN: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday WHERE: 123 Washington Ave., Portland. foragemarket.com _____________

MISTER BAGEL

There are 10 or so Mister Bagel locations in Maine, including South Portland and Falmouth. It all began with the Portland location, which was the first bagel shop to open in Maine. The late Rick Hartglass started Mister Bagel in 1977, and it is still a family business. Music fans will appreciate the breakfast sandwich menu, which includes The David Bowie (bacon, egg and American cheese), the Jimmy Buffett (egg with roast beef and cheddar) and The Lady Gaga (avocado, salt and pepper, with or without egg).

WHEN: 6:30 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday WHERE: 599 Forest Ave., Portland. misterbagelforestave.com ______________

At Rose Foods, the menu varies depending on the day, but there are usually six to eight flavors available. For example, should you pop in on a Friday, you’ll find a poppy and onion bialy (a cousin of the bagel that is not boiled). Rose Foods also makes a number of bagel sandwiches, including the Classic Nova with Nova lox and the Classic Whitefish. Advertisement

WHEN: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily WHERE: 428 Forest Ave., Portland. rosefoods.me

______________

ROVER BAGEL

At Rover Bagel, you’ll find wood-fired plain, poppy, sea salt, sesame and everything bagels available most of the time, and the spread game here is strong with cream cheese options like lemon-thyme-honey cream and chili-garlic.

WHEN: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon Sunday WHERE: 10 West Point Lane Suite 10-204, Biddeford (Pepperell Mill). roverbagel.com

SCRATCH BAKING CO.

You haven’t lived until you’ve experienced the line of devoted fans waiting for Scratch Baking Co. to open, especially on weekend mornings. Along with the popular Maine sea salt, plain and other everyday flavors, Scratch has a daily special bagel. There’s honeyed rosemary on Wednesday and jalapeno cheddar on Thursday. Scratch is also famous, at least to locals, for its P-Cheese spread. It’s a pimento cheese recipe made with cheddar, mayo, roasted red peppers and seasoning and was passed down to co-owner and head baker Allison Reid by her grandmother, Mern.

WHEN: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to noon Sunday WHERE: 416 Preble St., South Portland. scratchbakingco.com ___________

THE MAINE BAGEL

The Maine Bagel is a drive-thru with several breakfast and other kinds of sandwiches available. With a bagel list that features egg and bialy among the standards, the family-owned spot is the perfect place to stop on your way to Pine Point Beach. The Maine Bagel really shines with a dozen kinds of cream cheese spreads, including raisin-walnut, lox, strawberry, cranberry-nut and bacon-chive.

WHEN: 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. WHERE: 117 Route 1, Scarborough. themainebagel.com Advertisement

THE WORKS CAFE

The Works Cafe is an institution on the edge of the Portland’s Old Port. It opened in 1990 as Bagel Works before it changed its name in 2002. The original shop in this regional chain opened in Manchester, Vermont, in 1988, and there are 11 locations around New England, though just the one in Maine. Gone are the ’90s-era banana-walnut bagels and cold pizza cream cheese, but The Works Cafe is still a reliable place to grab a salt, multigrain or cinnamon raisin bagel, among others. The menu also has bowls, sandwiches and smoothies.

WHEN: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily WHERE: 15 Temple St., Portland. workscafe.com
