5 Spots Every Fan of ‘The Office’ Must Visit in Scranton, PA

We’re not just fans of “The Office”. We’re borderline-obsessed, know-every-quote, watch-it-constantly superfans. So, when we road-tripped out to the Poconos for a long weekend with our family in November, it only made sense that we would visit the city where the show was based.

Unlike one of our other favorite shows, Parks & Recreation – another Greg Daniels/Michael Schur masterpiece – “The Office” is set in a real city: Scranton, Pennsylvania.

As I’ve learned from the Office Ladies podcast , the directors took great care to ensure the show remained authentic to its Scranton setting.

They even went as far as picking up local props (fliers, products, stickers, magnets, restaurant menus and more) to decorate the background of the Dunder Mifflin Scranton set.

Remember that Froggy 101 sticker on Dwight’s desk? Yep, that’s a real radio station in Scranton. What about the club soda featured throughout the show? That was from the Crystal Soda Water Co., a family-run business in Scranton.

These little nods to the former coal town make the show feel like it was really filmed there (despite occasionally seeing palm trees in the background of the driving scenes).

Of course, there are also the more memorable and recognizable Scranton locales featured on “The Office”, including:

  • Alfredo’s Pizza Café (not to be confused with the vastly inferior Pizza by Alfredo, which is fictional)

Cooper’s Seafood House

Poor richard’s pub.

  • The Marketplace at Steamtown (aka the Steamtown Mall)
  • Penn Paper tower

We visited these spots and share all the details below – including which ones were surprisingly awesome and which were sort of meh. Plus, don’t miss our bonus “The Office” locations at the end of the blog!

Now, let’s get this party started!

Alfredo’s Pizza Café

1040 s. washington ave..

We all remember the argument in season 4’s “Launch Party” (or should I say “Lunch Party”?) about Alfredo’s Pizza Café versus Pizza by Alfredo. And while the latter is fictional, I can confidently attest to the delicious taste of a pepperoni slice from Alfredo’s Pizza Café.

It’s no wonder the employees were peeved at Michael for ordering the wrong pizza! Even its menu reminds you: It’s “home to ‘the good pizza’ as seen on The Office”.

During your tour of Scranton, be sure to add Alfredo’s to your list. It’s the perfect lunch spot, with plenty of options for everyone. Beyond pizza, they serve salads, wraps, burgers, subs, pasta, steak, seafood and more.

701 N. Washington Ave.

The “business/romantic” Cooper’s Seafood House was mentioned several times in the show, but was featured most prominently in season 5’s “Business Ethics” episode. Though the interior scenes were filmed in Los Angeles, the exterior shot was actually filmed on-site at the real Cooper’s.

Truthfully, I was most excited about visiting Cooper’s during our Scranton tour – not because of the food, but because it’s the only place in Scranton (surprisingly) that boasts a huge collection of “The Office” merchandise. You better believe we left with a bag full of totally necessary merch.

Plus, Cooper’s houses some incredible pop culture memorabilia, so even if you’re not a fan of “The Office”, you’ll have fun wandering the halls and marveling at all the treasures of yesteryear.

A favorite of the employees of Dunder Mifflin, Poor Richard’s is mentioned and featured in many episodes, most notably in “Cocktails”, “Local Ad”, “St. Patrick’s Day” and “A.A.R.M.” – the second-to-last episode of the series, in which the office employees head to the dive bar to watch the official airing of the documentary.

Unless you listen to the Office Ladies podcast or live in the Scranton area, it may come as a surprise that the real Poor Richard’s Pub is located inside a bowling alley (South Side Bowl). If you want any Poor Richard’s swaaaaaaag, be sure to stop in the bowling alley, where they have T-shirts and hoodies for sale.

The Marketplace at Steamtown

300 lackawanna ave..

the office fan tour scranton pa

Nobody loves the Steamtown Mall more than Kelly Kapoor. So, when Michael Scott takes the ladies to the mall in season 3’s “Women’s Appreciation”, it’s a dream come true for Kelly.

Mike and I, however, didn’t get as much enjoyment out of our visit to The Marketplace at Steamtown. Beyond the lure of its mention on “The Office”, there wasn’t anything extraordinary about it.

There is one benefit of visiting, though. It’s where the “Scranton Welcomes You” sign is located. The sign, which you see in the intro of each episode, was moved to the mall after causing too much disruption on the road – due to people stopping to take pictures with it.

Now on the second floor of the mall, the sign sits on AstroTurf in front of a printed screen of Scranton. Not quite the same as if it were outside, but it’s still a good photo op for “The Office” superfans!

the office fan tour scranton pa

Penn Paper Tower

215 vine st..

the office fan tour scranton pa

Even if you used to skip the intro on Netflix, the iconic image of the Dunder Mifflin tower still made its way onto your screen.

The first shot shown in the intro was apparently filmed by John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) during one of his early trips to Scranton, according to the Office Ladies. The footage made its way into the intro, becoming the backdrop to one of TV’s most recognizable theme songs.

The tower – actually home to the family-owned Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company – isn’t far from The Marketplace at Steamtown, so you can walk there to take in the scenery, or drive if you’re pressed for time.

I love that the tower still features the Dunder Mifflin logo, even eight years after the show last aired!

Bonus “The Office” Locales

Electric city sign, 507 linden st. .

the office fan tour scranton pa

They call it Scranton! What?! The Electric City!

Even though this spot wasn’t featured in the show, it’s still a must-see for “The Office” fans. The sign lights up Scranton’s skyline at night, but even during the day, it will surely remind you of Michael’s “Lazy Scranton” employee orientation song.

Electric City Mural, Central Scranton Expressway on/off ramp exit off I-81

Keep your eyes open for this easy-to-miss mural off the highway. It’s not really a must-see, but it’s worth snapping a photo as you drive by.

Lake Wallenpaupack, 2512 Route 6 Ste 1 Hawley, PA

the office fan tour scranton pa

It’s a booze cruise!

Located just 40 minutes from Scranton is the famous Lake Wallenpaupack, where season 2’s “Booze Cruise” is set. If you have some time to spare, be sure to check it out. The lake is beautiful, and there’s a trail around it that offers scenic views – perfect for couples or families.

Scranton Business Park, Chandler Valley Center Studios, 13927 Saticoy St, Panorama City, CA

California? That’s a far way from Scranton.

OK, OK. This is by no means close to Scranton, but I had to include it! Before we got to see the real-life “The Office” locales, we stopped by the set for a quick photo while we were visiting LA .

And there you have it! While I wouldn’t recommend driving cross-country just to visit these spots, if you’re in the Poconos or surrounding area for a long weekend, add an afternoon in Scranton to your list.

If you can squeeze it in, you won’t regret it…

In the episode that Jim purchased his parents house for him & Pam without her knowing…. In the yard was the real estate sign for the reality company I worked for at that time. They really went out if their way to make the show feel authentic. And we all in the area would be like “oooh snap they just mentioned ” 😁

Wow! That’s so cool!! I love all the little details that went into making the show feel like it really was filmed in Scranton.

You need to update your location list to include the huge Dwight mural at On&On Antiques. I can email you a photo is you like. It’s a must see!

My family owns coopers and my Dad and uncles were really excited when they were approached about shooting for an episode at our restaurant. I took the day off from my job and sat at the bar from morning until night hoping to make into a background shot because we didn’t know if they were going to do interior or exterior shots. I found out they had come and gone after shooting only exterior shots, and I needed a ride home after sitting at the bar for 8 hours on a weekday. It was really cool to see my family’s restaurant on national TV, but unfortunately ticket to stardom didn’t come through.

That’s so awesome! Wow, what a legacy! Too bad you weren’t featured, but it makes for a great story 😄 Have you guys noticed an increase in business because of the show? I’m always so curious about that. Also, I just want to say that we LOVED the gift shop!

I love this!! I live in central Indiana, and I am going to my graduation commencement at SNHU this May. We are driving so I reserved an overnight stay at Scranton on the way to Boston. We won’t have too much time there, but we are hitting up a lot of these locations on this article. Thank you!

That’s awesome!! I’m thrilled the article was helpful 🙂 An overnight stay should give you plenty of time to check out all these must-sees. But if you have to prioritize, I would say definitely go to Alfredo’s for pizza (ask the staff at the front desk if you can take a picture holding the “original” Alfredo’s pizza box!), snap some pictures of the Penn Paper tower, then check out the gift shop at Cooper’s. Have fun!!

ABOUT THE MURAL

This incredible initiative, orchestrated by Scranton Tomorrow  and created by Hagopian Arts , is a loving nod to a show that embedded Scranton firmly into the hearts of millions across the globe. This mural is more than a painting; it is an invitation to live a chapter of your own Scranton story.

Kala Hagopian, founder of Hagopian Arts in Philadelphia, PA, and her team spent a year creating The Office  mural featuring life-like depictions of 17 fictional characters from the Dunder Mifflin Scranton office, along with key phrases and notable elements from The Office TV show. The mural was painted in-studio on synthetic cloth in various sections that were pieced together and permanently installed on the wall of the building at 503 Lackawanna Ave in Downtown Scranton.

Taking A Trip To Scranton To See “The Office” TV Show Landmarks? Here Are My Tips For A Dunder Mifflin Tour Of Scranton, PA

Free stuff , movies & tv , museums and memorials , pennsylvania travel , restaurants , reviews.

I’m a longtime fan of the hit NBC TV show The Office . The mockumentary comedy set in the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in the real-life city of Scranton, Pennsylvania has a huge cult following — even many years after the series ended in 2013.

Destination Downtown Scranton, PA pays homage to The Office.

It’s a TV show based off a British comedy of the same name and similar premise.

Yes, I have seen all the episodes of the BBC version of The Office and enjoy the British original. But I really fell in love with the U.S. version! I’ve been watching it since Season 1 began in 2005 — and I still binge watch The Office on Netflix and DVD today . Why, if Netflix ever removes The Office TV show from the lineup, I might just cut my subscription to the online streaming service!

If you haven’t seen The Office yet, you’ve got to check it out. The show stars incompetent, bumbling boss Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) — who oversees his team of quirky but lovable staff.

There’s romance, drama, and plenty of interoffice pranking. If you like sharp satire and deadpan humor, you’ll love The Office . ( That’s what she said!)

The obsessed fan I am, I took a road trip to Scranton, PA to visit some of places featured in The Office TV show .

Visiting The Office Landmarks In Scranton, PA

Directions to Scranton, PA... it's located in Lackawanna County -- in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Scranton  is situated in Lackawanna County — in northeastern Pennsylvania .

I knew before I visited Scranton that the office building (said to be located at the fictional 1725 Slough Avenue) and the office park are actually located in Los Angeles, where most of the taping is done.

Here’s the actual office building Dunder Mifflin fans know from the show:

While most principal shooting was done in Hollywood, the writers and producers made the setting in the show seem pretty authentic.

They reference various Scranton, PA locations — ranging from otherwise obscure restaurants and pubs to shopping malls and tourist attractions . In fact, many Scranton leaders credit the The Office TV show with helping to make the distressed city , with a population of fewer than 85,000 people, hip.

But it’s not as though the coal-mine town of Scranton hasn’t got some street cred. After all, the city was once famous for its anthracite (coal) mining industry. It’s also popularly known as “The Electric City” because electric lights were introduced in Scranton, PA back in 1880, and 6 years later the nation’s first fully electric streetcars began operating.

References to coal and the city’s claim to electricity fame make several humorous cameos in The Office , including in this awesome rap video, “Straight Outta Scranton”:

The anthracite museum mentioned in The Office rap? You bet it’s real! In fact, so are many of the other places referenced in the show.

Here’s a rundown (so, what is a rundown ?) on some of the Scranton, Pennsylvania landmarks seen or heard about in The Office TV show…

Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company 215 Vine Street Scranton, PA 18501

Pennsylvania Paper Supply Company Scranton

OK, so the Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company is not specifically mentioned in The Office , but it’s essentially the basis for the type of workplace Dunder Mifflin is supposed to be.

The Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company was founded in 1922 and is located in the famous Penn Paper tower, seen in the show intro .

Dunder Mifflin Paper Company Scranton

The folks at Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company proudly open their doors to fans of The Office TV show. They even have a variety of memorabilia from the show — including:

  • Signed photos of cast members
  • A Dwight bobblehead given to the company by Rainn Wilson (who portrays Dwight Schrute in the show)
  • A Dunder Mifflin banner — (Tell them you love the show and they’ll give you a free poster perfect for fans of The Office .)

Actor John Krasinski, who plays Jim Halpert in the show, recorded video of the Penn Paper tower as seen in the opening of The Office , helping make the building famous.

These days there’s a “Dunder Mifflin Paper Company” logo at the top of the tower:

the office fan tour scranton pa

Steamtown Mall (Marketplace at Steamtown) 300 Lackawanna Avenue Scranton, PA 18503

Steamtown Mall

While known as Steamtown Mall back when the show was originally airing , the city’s main shopping center has since been renamed the Marketplace at Steamtown .

The mall is featured many times in The Office TV show . However, the Steamtown Mall Victoria’s Secret — one of the many stores frequented by shopaholic Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling) — has since closed.

What you will find during your trip to Marketplace at Steamtown is the large “Scranton Welcomes You” sign seen during the opening credits of The Office (pictured at the start of this article). It’s  l ocated on the second floor of the mall — near Boscov’s and Crunch Fitness.

There’s a huge parking garage at the mall, and that’s where I parked my car. Parking is $5 after the first 3 hours — but you can get your parking validated by any of the participating mall tenants.

Steamtown Mall was built in 1993 and seems to have had much better days when The Office was in first-run airing on NBC. Still, no trip to see The Office landmarks in Scranton is complete without a stop by Marketplace at Steamtown!

Cooper’s Seafood House 701 N. Washington Avenue Scranton, PA 18509

the office fan tour scranton pa

Michael Scott namedrops Cooper’s Seafood House more times than I can count! It’s one of his favorite “business-romantic” lunch spots .

This restaurant, an Electric City mainstay since 1948, not only exists, but it’s one of the most popular seafood restaurants in Scranton. When I went, the parking lot was packed and the line was almost out the door!

Cooper’s was most prominently featured in “Business Ethics,” (Season 5, Episode 3). That’s the episode where Michael takes human resources officer Holly Flax (Amy Ryan) to lunch to discuss impropriety issues with supplier relations representative Meredith (Kate Flannery).

While the interior restaurant scenes were filmed in Hollywood, the exterior establishing shot was actually taken outside of Cooper’s Seafood House.

the office fan tour scranton pa

I would’ve loved to order a lobster — but what I really wanted to do was get a few shots of Cooper’s for my Scranton trip photo scrapbook. I also had to buy a handful or two of The Office swag (“stuff we all get”). Yes, Cooper’s has a large gift shop dedicated to the hit show!

There are so many cool things to buy at The Office gift shop at Cooper’s Seafood House. I couldn’t decide what to get. So, I purchased a few things — including a reprint of the office building watercolor drawing that Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) creates in “Business School” (Season 3, Episode 17). As Pam’s ex-fiance Roy Anderson (David Denman) calls her artistic work, “[it’s] the prettiest art of all the art.”

Pam’s sketch of their office complex even moved Michael, who says “That is our building… and we sell paper.” He buys the piece and hangs it prominently in the office, where it is seen in subsequent episodes. I had to have the iconic painting for my office, too!

Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe 1040 S. Washington Avenue Scranton, PA 18505

the office fan tour scranton pa

After picking up The Office souvenirs at Cooper’s, it was time for supper.

I went to Alfredo’s Pizza & Restaurant — which is the favorite pizzeria of Kevin Malone (Brian Baumgartner) . He believes there’s no comparison… He loves Alfredo’s Pizza much better than the “hot circle of garbage” from local (non-existent) rival Pizza By Alfredo.

I ordered the famous Alfredo’s cheese pizza, and I agree with Kevin… it’s good!

I wanted to get the “tasty bread” at Cugino’s, a real Italian restaurant in Scranton, Pennsylvania — but they had just closed when I had the chance to stop by. Guess I’ll need to return to Scranton someday for some tasty bread, huh?

Poor Richard’s Pub 125 Beech Street Scranton, PA 18505

In The Office TV show, Poor Richard’s Pub is depicted as a standalone establishment — one the work-weary crew from Dunder Mifflin love frequenting.

But in real life, Poor Richard’s is actually located inside a bowling alley! Conveniently, it’s located right across the street from Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe.

The show wasn’t ever actually filmed there, but it’s referenced so many times throughout the series it’s an iconic stop for any The Office fan’s trip to Scranton! And if you love the show you’re sure to recognize some of the memorabilia in this now-famous pub.

Anthracite Heritage Museum 22 Bald Mountain Road Scranton, PA 18504

The Anthracite Heritage Museum has a cameo role in the “Straight Outta Scranton” music video. And in real-life, the museum pays homage to Scranton’s industrial lifeblood: coal. As Michael astonishingly proclaims to his boss, Jo Bennett (Kathy Bates) in “St. Patrick’s Day” (Season 6, Episode 19), “buildings here are literally powered by coal!”

the office fan tour scranton pa

The Anthracite Heritage Museum was closed by the time I got around to the west side of town where it’s located. But I was delighted to see the historic Scranton Iron Furnaces  are sponsored by the Anthracite Heritage Museum. The stone blast furnaces were built in the 1840s and ’50s and are located near the intersection of Laurel Line Drive and Cedar Avenue .

the office fan tour scranton pa

If you get to the Anthracite Heritage Museum, be sure to check out the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour . It features a trip 300 feet down into the caves — which Michael mistakenly believes is a thrill ride with a “300-foot drop.”

Lake Scranton

Lake Scranton was seen in 'The Office'

Considered a reservoir that formed behind a dam built in the 1890s, Lake Scranton features a 3.5-mile walking trail.

It also played a starring role in “Beach Games” (Season 3, Episode 22), in which Michael Scott inaccurately refers to the lake as “America’s 8th largest indigenous body of water.”

Lake Wallenpaupack

Scranton The Office Lake Wallenpaupack

Lake Wallenpaupack is one of the most popular recreational destinations in the Pocono Mountains.

It’s also the retreat of choice for a team-building venture in “Booze Cruise” (Season 2, Episode 11) . However, the voyage on Lake Wallenpaupack takes place in January, a time when the lake would’ve been frozen. So The Office producers instead shot the episode in the balmier climes of Long Beach Harbor, California.

What about Chili’s in Scranton… and Hooters?

Chili’s had a starring role in The Office TV show many times . Perhaps most memorably it’s where Michael Scott hosts his in-office Dundie Awards show and where Pam gets so drunk she’s banned from the restaurant (Season 2, Episode 1):

Michael, who refers to Chili’s as “the new golf course,” also takes an important business prospect to the popular chain in “The Client” (Season 2, Episode 7).

Hooters is one of Michael’s favorite places to take his male colleagues for lunch , as seen in “The Secret” (Season 2, Episode 13):

Sorry, but these two famous chain restaurants aren’t actually located in Scranton — the nearest locations are an hour’s drive away. Oh well, at least we have Cooper’s Seafood House and Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe for breaking bread with our fellow fans of The Office !

Here are twelve must-see spots that should be instantly recognizable to any true fan of “The Office”:

1. Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe

Home of the good pizza! Yes, there really is an Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe – and they are quite popular in Scranton. In fact, pizza in general is quite popular in Lackawanna County. Alfredo’s pizza is a rectangle shaped pan style with a bit of gooey cheese that sticks to the roof of your mouth.

2. Poor Richard’s Pub

Poor Richards is also a real place but its location might surprise you. It’s tucked away in the back of a bowling ally. It’s actually a pretty good size pub with a decent amount of seats. However, I wouldn’t expect any servers to come wait on you. When I stopped by there was one gentleman running the bar and that was it. You might find some fun drink specials though. The “That’s What She Said” included vodka, peach schnapps, grenadine, and pineapple juice.

125 Beech Street

3. The Steamtown Mall

It’s actually called “The Marketplace at Steamtown” and it happens to be where the famous “Scranton Welcomes You” sign is located. It was moved from the street because tourists were causing traffic jams and getting hit by cars while taking selfies. Now visitors can pose with the sign on the second floor of the mall. Just go up the escalator and turn left. The bookstore has some Dunder Mifflin merch as well.

4. Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Co.

There really is a paper company in Scranton but it’s not called Dunder Mifflin. The Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company has been around for over 100 years! If you look up, you’ll see “Penn Paper” on the building’s tower but you’ll also see the “Dunder Mifflin” logo on the side facing the street. A bit of a nod to the show that put this place on the map. I was told they may have a small amount of Office themed “stuff” to look at, but I didn’t go inside on my visit.

This seafood restaurant is a popular local spot as well as a top spot for visitors making their way through Scranton. It’s almost as much of a museum as it is a restaurant. You’ll see the gigantic heads of The Office cast in the rear parking lot and a huge gift shop inside with all sorts of fun Office collectibles. Whether you need a pair of Schrute Farms socks or a Jim Halpert comic book – they’ve got you covered!

6. Dundie Award

Head to Scranton City Hall and you’ll find a gigantic Dundie award that was gifted to the city for being “the best hometown of The Office” from NBC Universal. It’s literally sitting in the hallway between the front door and the inner doors to City Hall. You won’t even disturb the Mayor if you pop in and pose for pictures with it.

7. Houdini Museum

In Season 8 (episode 19), Nellie makes it clear that she is not impressed with the Houdini Museum in Scranton. Turns out there actually is a Houdini museum and turns out that it’s quite interesting! Loaded with Houdini memorabilia and artifacts – it includes handcuffs and costumes used by the magician himself as well as a stage for real magic shows. Hopefully you’re lucky enough to have the museum’s Director give you a guided tour so you can hear things about Houdini you never knew!

8. Dwight Schrute Mural

“Identity theft is not a joke, Jim!” But, someone stole Dwight’s face and plastered it on a big wall on the side of an antique mall/thrift shop/art gallery combo called On & On . There’s a small parking lot and the store has a handful of Office merch inside.

9. The Office Cast Mural

All of your favorite cast members from The Office make an appearance on this super cool mural located right down the street from the “Steamtown Mall”. I happened to be there the day they finished up putting it on the wall and people were so excited! It’s huge!

10. Electric City Sign

Scranton is referred to as “the electric city” for being the first place electric lights were introduced in 1880 at the Dickson Manufacturing Company. In 1886, the United States’ first successful streetcars powered only by electricity began operating in Scranton. The sign lights up (naturally) at dusk and is a popular photo op near the courthouse square downtown.

11. Anthracite Heritage Museum

In Season 1 (episode 3) and Season 3 (episode 8) – Scranton’s Anthracite Heritage Museum is mentioned in the show. Anthracite is another name for “hard coal” or “black coal”. The museum tells the story of coal mining in Lackawanna County and displays exhibits about the hard work and hardships endured by coal miners in the region. The museum’s director mentioned that people have been known to call and ask for a piece of anthracite because they heard about it on the show.

12. Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel

I had the pleasure of staying in this historic hotel during my visit to Scranton! It was once a train station and many of the original features are still in tact. The hotel has an incredibly beautiful lobby and 146 guest rooms. It opened in 1908 and was once the premier train station in Scranton. It’s also a great home base for walking around Scranton and discovering The Office sites!

Self-Guided Tour of ‘The Office’ landmarks

Self-Guided Tour of ‘The Office’ landmarks

Since February of this year, I’ve had the great pleasure of remote working. This has allowed me to visit Florida for two weeks , New Jersey for a week, and now, the city of Scranton in Pennsylvania for a few days – all while not taking a single PTO day! What’s more, since I’m joining my husband for his work travel, there is no expense for him (and in extension, me) in terms of hotel, gas, or food.

Of course, the downside is that I can only go exploring during specific times – before 9 am and after 5 pm. Plus, since my husband needs the car for work, I am pretty much stuck in the hotel until he comes back. Not a bad trade-off, but it does limit things.

But the reason why I wanted to join him specifically on this trip is because of The Office , as I’m sure you’ve already guessed!

The Office is one of my favorite shows. And while I don’t know the show like the back of my hand (unlike some people), I would binge-watch the entire series once every few years, at which point I would have forgotten most of the minor plot lines and relive the show as close to the first time as possible. Though most of the show takes place in their office, it’s based in Scranton, Pennsylvania and they would sometimes reference a few of the landmarks around.

The official Scranton website even made a self-guided tour map of landmarks mentioned in the show! It’s a very handy map that includes addresses and the episode listings of when that particular landmark was mentioned.

Following the guide, here’s what I ended up visiting (in case the Scranton Strangler* was loose once again):

LANDMARKS of Scranton

The Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company: Ah, the famous building that is shown in the intro of every episode (along with the iconic theme song). This building is also the inspiration behind Dunder Mifflin, which the building acknowledged with a sign of ‘Dunder Mifflin’ on the other side of the tower.

It was absolutely pouring when I was trying to get the shot , and I’m sure passerbys just looked at me warily, heh.

Address: 215 Vine St, Scranton, PA 18503

The Dundies: There is a massive Dundie trophy located in the Scranton City Hall. If you’ll recall, the team would go to a Chilli’s restaurant and have an awards ceremony where Michael would present Dundie trophies to his employees.

Address: 340 N Washington Ave, Scranton, PA 18503

The Scranton Electric City Sign : On the same block as the Scranton City Hall is the Electric City signage placed atop a tall building. Scranton prides itself as being the electric city because they were one of the first cities to have electricity in 1880.

Address: 507 Linden St, Scranton, PA 18503

The Dwight Shrute Mural: About half a mile away from the city hall is this contemporary mural of Dwight Shrute! It’s located on the side of the building of On & On , a repurpose, handmade and vintage store. I had plans on exploring the vintage store, but alas, it’s closed on Mondays!

Address: 1138 Capouse Avenue, Scranton, Pennsylvania 18509

Steamtown National Historic Site : In 1840, brother George and Selden Scranton established the Lackawana Iron and Coal company. It was such a successful endeavor that they expanded their company to include steel-rail transportation. The historic site has several steam trains on display, and quite a thorough museum, as well. We were able to spend a good 1.5+ hours touring the site, with no boredom in sight.

Address : 350 Cliff Street, Scranton, PA 18503

FOOD in Scranton

Alfredo’s Pizza Café : This pizza establishment was mentioned a few times during the show, and was the location for a couple of events, including the episode titled ‘Heavy Competition’. It was deemed as an ‘okay pizza place’ on the show, but when we went, the pizza was excellent!

We ordered their award-winning pizza, full size, and added pepperoni and mushrooms. First, the amount of cheese that was added was – * chef’s kiss * – delightful. They did not skimp, I tell you. Second, the full-size pizza is huge! Perhaps meant more for a family of four than just my husband and myself. We couldn’t get past the halfway point. Because of this, I’d be happy to say that Dunder Mifflin’s employees don’t know what they’re talking about.

The establishment is also prideful of being mentioned on the show, as they sell merch pertaining to The Office, and the employees themselves wear t-shirts that proclaim “Home of the ‘Good Pizza’ – as Seen on The Office”.

Address: 1040 S. Washington Avenue, Scranton, PA 18505

Food and Fire : This is not featured in The Office , but it was one of the other eatery that we dined at. It’s a BBQ that has a menu filled with styles from various popular U.S. regions. I had my usual brisket, with a side of gouda mac and cheese as well as potato salad. It had been awhile since I had bbq, so I was quite excited. The brisket was very good, and so was the mac and cheese! The potato salad was just okay.

Address : 7041 Shoppes Blvd., Moosic, PA 18507

Overall, doing a self-guided of The Office in Scranton is very possible to do in a day, provided you’re not trying to eat at all the restaurants listed on the map. While Scranton has a certain charm in its own right, I think fans of The Office will find the city even more pleasant because of the city’s embrace towards the show.

* Scranton Strangler : a reference to The Office where a fictional serial criminal was a recurring topic.

The Office – A Walking Tour of Scranton for Fans to Enjoy

Posted on September 22, 2023 by Marina P. Kennedy in Living Around

Based on the award winning BBC hit, The Office is a parody of modern American office life. The “mockumentary sitcom” ran for a total of nine full seasons on NBC until 2013, and is now available to stream on Peacock. The show’s stars included Steve Carrell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fisher, Rain Wilson, Mindy Kaling, and B.J. Novak. For those hooked on the show, the self-guided tour of Scranton, Pennsylvania is a must. (Scranton is also the hometown of President Joe Biden.)

Situated in Lackawanna County, Scranton is just an hour and a half by car from New York City, the travel time that was frequently referred to when the show’s characters made the excursion.  New York City was the home of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s corporate headquarters and where Pam (played by Fischer) studied art.

WAT spend a pleasant Saturday afternoon visiting spots in Scranton that were an integral part of the sitcom. Who could forget the Dundie Awards, visits to Cooper’s Seafood House, or a view of the Electric City Sign. Don’t just watch it, visit it!

The map that is provided by the Lackawana County Northeastern Pennsylvania Visitors Bureau has a total of 19 “On the Scranton Map” destinations as well as 12 “Not on the Map” places to see. All of the locations have been mentioned or featured in The Office .

The Dundee Award (Photo Credit: Marina Kennedy)

We started our tour in the center of town to see the Electric City Sign that towers above Linden Street.  This area was ideal for a leisurely stroll where you can also visit a popular bar and grill, The Bog; Scranton Cultural Center at Masonic Temple; Lackawanna County Courthouse; and a the world’s largest statue of the Dundie Award that is displayed at the Scranton City Hall on Washington Street. The statue was presented in 2021 to the city of Scranton by Peacock.

Some of the points of interest that were frequently mentioned in the show do require driving such as Poor Richard Pub; Electric City Trolley Museum; and Steamtown National Historic Site.

If you’re in a particularly adventurous mood and have some extra time in your visit, we highly suggest that you go to places that are “Not on the Map” such as the Houdini Museum on Main Avenue. There you can see a remarkable array of Houdini memorabilia and enjoy a magic show by the famous female magician, Dorothy Dietrich. Michael Scott was a big fan of magic. Other spots that are not mapped include Lake Wallenpaupack, PNC Field, the Anthracite Heritage Museum and the Glider Diner.

It’s nice to know that Scranton is on the Northeast fringe of the scenic Pocono Mountains making it a beautiful area that is fun to explore for a day trip or more. We highly recommend The Office self-guided tour.  For more information, go to Visit PA.

NO PARTY LIKE IT

The  Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau  created the tour to visit real life locations from “The Office.” You can  download the map  and park your car and travel by foot to see 19 points of interest in downtown Scranton. Pennsylvania Paper and Supply Company stood in for Dunder Mifflin during the opening credits of every episode. The building, and its iconic tower, are a must-see on the tour.

Locations from The Office

Poor Richard’s Pub  was a popular hangout for Jim, Pam and the whole office crew. Check out the real-life location on Beech Street. Fans know pizza from Alfredo’s was the preferred lunch at Dunder Mifflin. Stop in  Alfredo’s Pizza Café  on Washington Ave and order a slice.  Cooper’s Seafood House  was mentioned many times during the show’s seven-year run. Exterior shots of the Scranton landmark were featured in “The Office,” but be sure to go inside. Locations from The Office

Photo ops abound when you visit real life locations from “The Office.” The Scranton Welcomes You Sign featured during the opening credits was moved to  The Marketplace at Steamtown  (Steamtown Mall on the show). Visit the second floor of the shopping mall to get a photo in front of the famous sign. Although not depicted on TV, the giant Dwight Schrute mural is a must-see for any fan. Located on the side of  On & On , an antique store, the site is a popular destination for visitors to snap a pic with the often put-upon character. A life-sized Dundie Award sits in the lobby at  Scranton City Hall . Peacock, the streaming service and exclusive home of “The Office,” gifted the award to the city in 2021 citing it as “Best Hometown of The Office.”

SEE THE SITES

You can also visit real life locations from “The Office” outside of downtown Scranton. The  Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour ,  Anthracite Heritage Museum  and  Houdini Museum  are actual attractions you can tour in Lackawanna County.  Lake Scranton  was the location of the infamous “Beach Games” in a season three episode. There’s not a beach, but you can park your car and take the scenic 3.5-mile walking trail around the lake. Fans will also remember the Booze Cruise episode, which takes place at Lake Wallenpaupack. Located in Wayne and Pike Counties, the lake is a popular spot for vacations and day trips. Hotel Anthracite’s sister property,  Silver Birches , is located along the 52-mile shoreline. You can make reservations to stay overnight or enjoy lunch or dinner at the resort’s restaurant, The Dock on Wallenpaupack overlooking the water.

STAY TUNED FOR MORE

Our own hometown, Carbondale, popped up a few times in episodes of “The Office.” Although not depicted, it’s mentioned on several occasions. When staying over at Hotel Anthracite, plan on checking out Northeast PA’s place in TV history. You may not see Michael, Pam or Jim, but you can walk in the places that inspired a pop-culture classic.  Check availability and book your stay  to visit real life locations from “The Office.”

A Dunder Mifflin Tour of Scranton

By julia davis | sep 20, 2012.

the office fan tour scranton pa

Scranton, Pennsylvania, is a Mecca of sorts for fans of The Office , playing home to the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company and the lovable cast of characters that work there. While the show is actually filmed in California, there are plenty of references to Scranton hangout spots sprinkled throughout the script. To see if these Office -endorsed locales are all they’re cracked up to be, I ventured on a tour-de-Electric City, Michael Scott-style.

Places that actually exist

Alfredo’s pizza café.

In the episode “Launch Party,” Michael tries to win over his disgruntled employees by ordering takeout from their favorite pizzeria. Unfortunately (and predictably), he screws up. Instead of ordering from the delectable and popular Alfredo’s Pizza Café, he orders from Pizza by Alfredo’s — an eatery famous for cranking out pizza that tastes “like eating a hot circle of garbage,” in Kevin’s assessment.

While Pizza by Alfredo’s is fictional, Alfredo’s Pizza Café is a real restaurant in Scranton. It’s a classic sit-down Italian eatery that serves up a variety of salads, sandwiches, and pastas. To see if the pizza is truly the best slice in Scranton, I ordered a piece of thin crust for review. Friends and I collectively agreed that it was not like eating a hot circle of garbage, but perhaps not worth $2.25 a slice.

There isn’t actually a Chili’s in Scranton. However, people who want their baby back (baby back, baby back) ribs can find one just a fifteen-minute drive away in nearby Wilkes-Barre. The restaurant is. . . well, just like any other Chili’s.

Cooper’s Seafood

The Office name-drops Coopers about as often as Michael Scott makes a “that’s what she said” joke. And in the episode “Business Ethics,” Michael actually takes Holly there. In the typically absurd scene, he gestures wildly with a crab claw as he discusses whether he should report Meredith for sleeping with a client in exchange for steak coupons.

The real Cooper’s is a popular Scranton seafood house modeled after a pirate ship. When I stopped by, the restaurant was hopping — crowded and pleasantly noisy, punctuated by the odor of salty fish. The eatery is divided into several rooms, including the ship’s pub, the lighthouse bar, the tiki bar deck, the whale room, the train room, the original pub, and the private coral room. There’s also a gift shop that offers a hodgepodge of lobster shot glasses, Dunder Mifflin-themed paraphernalia, and fish puppets. If you’re ever in Scranton on your birthday, Cooper's will treat you to a free meal.

Electric City signs

In the episode "The Merger," Michael and Dwight make a rap video called “Lazy Scranton” to introduce their out-of-town colleagues to the Electric City. In the immortal words of Mr. Scott, “They call it that cuz of the electri-City.”

Well, sort of. Scranton is indeed called the Electric City. That’s because America’s first electric-operated trolley system was developed there in 1886. While the line is no longer in commission, the nickname stuck. There’s a huge Electric City sign downtown that lights up at night, as well as a colorful mural next to the overpass on the way into Scranton.

Froggy 101 Radio Station

Dwight’s a big fan of this country music station. He’s even got a Froggy 101 bumper sticker on his desk. There was also a Froggy 101 sticker on the desk of Michael’s boss during his stint at the telemarketing company.

The real Froggy 101 is a popular Scranton-based country-western station. I figured a drive to Office country wouldn’t be complete without tuning in to good ol’ 101.3FM to pump some beats. In the half-hour or so that I listened to the station, DJ Crockett played a nice mix of mainstream and countrified artists — Rascal Flatts, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Josh Turner, and Dierks Bentley. And of course, Kenny Chesney’s “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems.”

Lackawanna Coal Mine/Anthracite Heritage Museum

Michael and Dwight’s infamous “Lazy Scranton” rap video features footage of the Anthracite Heritage Museum. And in the episode “Healthcare”, Michael considers taking his staff on a tour of the Lackawanna coal mines after promising them an exciting but unspecified surprise.

The Anthracite Heritage Museum is a real exhibit in Scranton. It commemorates the workers of the coal mining and textile industries -- which formed the economic backbone of northeastern PA . The museum features old mining tools, replicas of miners’ homes, and real mine cars. And if that’s not enough, there are coal mine tours just down the road. The tour takes viewers 300 feet underground into a mineshaft, where a “miner” guide shares anecdotes about the history of anthracite coal mining. (I arrived too late to take a tour but just in time to play on the coal mine trucks without getting kicked out by security.)

Poor Richard’s Pub

It’s probably the most famous hangout spot for The Office gang, mentioned in multiple episodes as a favorite happy-hour destination. In the episode “Cocktails", the crew heads to Poor Richard’s, where the staff is on a first-name basis with Meredith. Pam tells Roy that she kissed Jim, prompting him to trash the bar with his brother in a drunken rage.

While the scene was filmed at Pickwick’s Pub in California, the real Poor Richard’s is located inside a bowling alley teeming with kids and birthday balloons. But the bar itself is not as family-friendly. It’s small and dark with several tables, an arcade machine, and a few dartboards. When I stopped by on a Saturday at 6 p.m., the pub only had two customers, both middle-aged men.

Steamtown Mall

In “Women’s Appreciation,” Michael celebrates his office gal pals by taking them to Scranton’s premier shopping site: the Mall at Steamtown. After they help him work out his relationship problems with Jan, he treats them each to one item from Victoria’s Secret.

While the episode was filmed at a mall in Los Angeles, there is a Steamtown Mall in Scranton — and it embraces its role as the center of Office -Mania. There’s a large display featuring cardboard cutouts and Office memorabilia in one of the mall’s windows. The elevator is embossed with a huge picture of a Dwight Schrute bobblehead: Rainn Wilson is an honorary safety guard there.

Places that used to exist

Farley’s pub.

In the episode “Basketball,” the losers of the game between the warehouse guys and the office guys have to buy the winners dinner at Farley’s.

The real Farley’s was a popular pub in downtown Scranton. After the show became famous, Farley’s added a special Michael Scott burger to the menu. Sadly for Office fans (and Scrantonites), the iconic bar closed earlier this year.

The “Scranton Welcomes You” sign

This sign is featured prominently in the opening credits. It used to be located on the Central Scranton Expressway. But a few years ago, city officials decided to retire the sign and replace it with a new one. The old sign is currently hanging out at the Steamtown Mall, where Office aficionados can bask in its presence.

Places that are totally made up

It’s another culinary staple for Michael Scott. In the episode "The Secret", he treats Jim to lunch there on the corporate account and cleverly orders a chicken breast – hold the chicken.

But while the restaurant chain plays a big role in The Office , there isn’t actually a Hooters in Scranton. The nearest one is over an hour away, making it an unlikely lunch-break destination for true Scrantonites.

To help him get over a bad breakup with Carol, Andy takes Michael to the so-called “Asian Hooters” to help him drown his sorrows in sake shots.

While it made for a great Christmas episode (aptly titled “a Benihana Christmas”), there isn’t actually a Benihana in or near Scranton. The closest one is in New Jersey.

Scranton Business Park

Located at 1725 Slough Avenue, the location of Scranton’s most viable business ventures – Dunder Mifflin, Vance Refrigeration, and others – doesn’t actually exist. Slough is actually the name of the town where the British Office takes place.

The mustard T is GREAT.

HAHAHAHAHA beet salad at cooper’s!!!! that’s hilarious!

I feel jealous.

I’m definitely going, my friends and i are getting tickets for a saturday in july

I’m in the process of trying to convince my boyfriend to take me there next weekend, that would be awesome.

I’m going June 27th…can’t wait…I’m gonna take so many pics….maybe Tanster will put them up for you all! (I will even give a breakdown of the tour…I’m so excited for this) I’ve been to Scranton many times but never like this!

Going in August! So excited!!! No kind of tour like a Scranton tour, cause a Scranton tour don’t stop!

I so would like to go, but I am already taking a vacation this summer. Maybe next year … if they do it again

it’s really a shame that i have to work… oh, and can’t afford a ticket to scranton. or hotel room. or uh, anything, for that matter.

i hope to make it too!

ok, so I literally just got back from my tour and it was AMAZING!!! If you were at all on the fence about going, you HAVE to go! Seriously, we had an amazing time. From the tour guides, which included many people who organized the Convention and other awesome locals that made the experience amazing, to the sight seeing, which included Lake Scranton, Paper Magic, Poor Richards, The PA paper building, Farley’s, Coopers, (just to name a few) and funtivities like an egg race at Lake Scranton, and Trivia in the bus, to the awesome extra things like getting to try on the actual mustaches worn by the cast in Branch Wars, all I can say is that is something I will never forget and a MUST DO trip for any true office freak. Can’t say enough good things, it was magical!

thanks for posting Tanster!

AWESOME!!!!!! To Rachel, I’m sooo sorry I didn’t get your names sooner….so cool we both think alike (doing the reports, haha) My sister and I had such a good time. You gave me some good comptetition on that trivia…haha (sry, I won!) Tanster, thanks so much for putting these up! If you come out for one I’ll go again..haha!

The Office Tour was great. So glad I had a chance to be a part of it

Ugh WHY must I live on the west coast?! I would So road trip to Scranton if I only had the means.

These are wonderful fan reports! Thanks to the lucky fans for the recaps, photos and to Office Tally for posting them. I’m so lucky I can come to this site and enjoy the tour vicariously–I want to go so badly, but Seattle’s too far away from Scranton to do it in person!

ahh, i have to go again..dying to meet melora hardin!

Planning to make one of the tours in August. Can’t wait!

If only I could afford a plane ticket out there, and the ticket, I would go!

We ordered our August 1st tickets so that we could hang out with Bobby Ray. Today I read that Tanster will be there too! Double Bonus!

Just got back from the tour, it was SO much fun.

soooo excited….going on the 25th, for my second tour..haha…gonna meet melora hardin…can’t wait! (I saw a day too late that tanster was going on August 1st….bummer, so hoping to meet you..maybe a third trip to Scranton should be in my future..haha)

haha I’m going again too!

I went on the tour this weekend and had a wonderful time! If you want to see more photos, check out mine here

If you’re thinking about going, I give it a full recommendation. It was actually a really good value for the money, especially with such a great lunch at Cooper’s.

The tour staff were absolutely incredible. They all do it because they love The Office & love their city, and I was just blown away by how nice they were.

If you are going, the episodes to watch beforehand are “Business Ethics” (when Michael & Holly eat at Cooper’s) and “The Merger” (for it’s Lazy Scranton video).

I’m going tomorrow! Nice to see some other Tallyheads will be there as well. :)

I am the big Office fan in my house and will be going on the tour on Aug 8. I convinced my husband to do this instead of the Baseball Hall of fame for his birthday weekend! Too bad there aren’t any special guest that weekend. We are coming from Boston, and have family in Western Connecticut and will start our drive to Scranton from there.

Make sure you leave some bobbleheads for people touring later in the summer, tanster! Please!

saw melora hardin last weekend, such a nice lady…they all convinced me to come next weekend also to meet you and bobby ray..tour number 3! its all worth it haha.

[from tanster: awesome! looking forward to meeting you, mindy! :) ]

I’ll be there this weekend for the 2nd time! can’t wait!

[from tanster: awesome!]

I’ll be there this weekend with my friend, can’t wait!

PS- Ordered the tickets on the 22nd. Haven’t seen them in the mail yet and I’m kind of nervous they won’t show up before we leave Friday morning. I know there’s still a couple of days left but has anyone else had a problem like this?

Cool, figured that might be the case since they have the name that was on the credit card. Thanks, Mindy! :)

Dana, you won’t get tickets in the mail at all. just bring your confirmation, even though you don’t really need it, they have your name.

I live 1 and 1/2-2hrs away, i will go one day! What is in the gift bags?????? I missed the $1 stuff when they had it @ target so maybe some of that stuff!

Can somebody who has gone on the tour tell me what time it started. Thanks

Emily…If you mean the gift bags from the tour…They have a book from the Convention and a few little “nifty gifties”

Cindy…it starts around 12, although it’s a good idea to get there a little earlier. It starts in the mall but you don’t actually leave to go anywhere until closer to 1.

I’m told they’re getting out the big bus (for 50!) for tomorrow’s tour. ;)

Hey! My friend and I are driving from Boston tonight and are going on the tour tomorrow (8/1) I just called the mall at steamtown and they said the tour meets right near Kay Jewelers in the mall. Is this accurate? I just want to confirm it. It wasn’t in the receipt and I haven’t gotten a confirmation e-mail yet. Also my printer is broken so hopefully just our names on the list and our ID’s will be enough! Is anyone else going? I am excited to meet Bob Vance! ha ha!

best. wedding. photo. ever.

That tour was a lot of fun! It was eventful between the wedding shot and the guy randomly taking the coke out of the trash and drinking it. Hahaha. It was good to finally meet you, Tanster! I’m sorry now that I didn’t come up to you to say hi at the beginning of the tour because I was so shy. Thanks for posing for a pic with me and my buddy!

Tanster, I hope you and Bobby Ray had a great time! You both were so nice and it was awesome to have met you. I was just as excited to meet you as I was Bob Vance!

I know I’m not the first to say this, but omg — the bride looks like Angela! When I first saw the photo, this was my train of thought in warp speed: “OMG, Angela came! No, Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration is NOT that short; it’s not Angela. It’s a bride pretending to be Angela! No, it’s just a bride…”

Very cool, Tanster! I can’t wait to read more about it.

Stopped by to take a look for you but you were surrounded at the time I thought I saw you at the Steamtown Mall. Happen to live up the road from it, so figured why not.

Glad you enjoyed Lake Scranton by the way…I have the absolute pleasure of walking 1/4 mile there and running it a few times a week.

The tour was wonderful! Definitely worth the price and the 3 hour drive from Connecticut. It was so great to meet Tanster, who was just as excited as all of us to be wandering around Scranton!

I had such a great time on this tour. I can’t believe how amazing and generous the tour guides are. We got to pose with the mustaches from the branch wars episode. Hang out all day with Bob Vance and Tanster. They were both so sweet! (thank you for a great time tanster!) my friend and i drove 6 hours from Boston for this and it was totally worth it. I think we made our money back in how many Yeungling’s they gave us! The lunch at Cooper’s was great too. I am going to recommend this tour to every office fan. It’s worth a trip to Scranton even if you live across the country!

Great report, tanster! Sounds like a wonderful time was had by all. I especially love the random encounter by the family who just happened to be driving by. How excited they must have been!

By the way, I think you may have stayed in the same Radisson room that I did for the convention – I have a picture that I took out our window that looks very much like yours! :)

[from tanster: what a coincidence! wish you could have been there, kenna, you would’ve had fun. i heard on this trip that the 5th floor of the radisson is haunted. good thing we were on the 6th floor. ;) ]

My husband and I were also on the tour on 8/1. His voice can plainly be heard giving “play by play” commentary during the first egg race. We didn’t know Tanster was recording it! We had a fantastic time, and a memorable day. We couldn’t stop smiling!! Bob Vance was so charming and had such a warm personality. Thanks to Tanster for all her great work.

Great video. :)

I made a photo album on the tour on Facebook if anyone wants to see: link

[from tanster: nice! thanks for sharing! :) ]

Thank you all for those that posted the picture/video of my husband and I on our wedding day Aug.1st with (Bob Vance)!!! We are both huge office fans! It was a great surprise!

Hey, I am the groom from the wedding on the Aug 1st Scranton tour. Just wanted to say thanks for the great video and pics. We are both huge office fans and this was very unexpected. It made fun conversation at the reception afterwards. Anyway I wanted to throw my E-Mail address out there so you could let us know if you guys are doing anymore office related events.

Thanks for stopping by OfficeTally, Brooke and Dave! Very cool that The Office Fan Tours and Bobby Ray were there on your special day.

Congratulations! :)

Went on the tour yesterday (their last of the summer), and it was so much fun! I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The tour guides were very into it, so nice. They even made cupcakes because there were birthdays in the group. It was so worth the eleven hours spent in the car!

*in pam voice ala “is…is it fake?”* did….did the prices go up?

The Office fan tour is sooooo much fun. Everyone that runs it is super nice and are just as big a fan of the show as anyone on the tour. Lunch at Coopers was amazing, I would go back to Scranton just to eat there again! Probably the best part of the tour was the egg race and the trivia challenge in the limo, both of which I won, and got a sweet Dunder Mifflin t-shirt.

I think the prices did go up, $10 per ticket.

ahh i am the biggest office fan and i would love to go on this tour so much! i would drive hours to get there but i think it’s just that bit too far to come from australia :( if anyone remembers in season 2, how jim was going to take a trip to australia when pam was getting married. well i think they should put that in the story line and jim and pam finally go. yayyy! then i could meet them!

Does Scranton still have The Office festival? I can’t find any information about it. Was there just the one or two? I’d love to go!

Nancy (#57) there was only one convention in Fall of 2007. These tours are supposed to raise money for a future convention but I’m not really sure why they haven’t had a 2nd one. I think they’re trying to get the entire cast but that is incredibly difficult. I think a lot of us would be thrilled with a few of the cast, writers and other show staff. The first one was incredibly fun.

“The Office Fan Tour Giveaway”

The Scranton landmark I am most excited to see is beautiful Lake Scranton. I chose this site because “Beach Games” is one of my favorite episodes and I find myself quoting it often. It would also be an honor to gaze upon “America’s eighth largest indigenous body of water.”

I’m most excited to visit the Boscov’s in the Steamtown Mall if I win the tickets from The Office Fan Tour Giveaway. I hear they have some excellent purple sweater sets. :)

I would most like to visit Alfredo’s Pizza. Because Pizza by Alfredo tastes like a hot circle of garbage. And because it’s the only stop I missed the first time around!

I went last year, but enjoyed it so much I would totally go again. Everyone was so sweet and fun and Cooper’s was so yummy!

– The Office Fan Tour Giveaway

I would love to visit Alfredo’s Pizza. The Launch Party episode is definitely one of my favorites and it would be pretty awesome to be able to visit the place. Also, I would also like to try some of the pizza that all of the office employees put in high regard.

I would love to win the Office Fan Tour Giveaway. I would be ecstatic if I won! I think I would be most excited about visiting Lake Scranton. Beach Games is one of my very favorite episodes. I lose it every time Andy falls in the lake in his sumo wrestler outfit.

If I won “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway”, it would be exciting in itself just to visit Scranton, PA. My husband and I are such fans of the show that all of the landmarks would be fun to see. If I have to pick though, then the lunch at Cooper’s sounds great because we like trying new places and love to eat!:)

The Scranton landmark I’d most like to visit is Poor Richard’s, the site of Pam’s confession, Roy’s outburst, and the screening of the Dunder Mifflin ads. It looks like a comfy place to hang out & unwind from a tough day at The Office!

I would LOVE to go on the tour! I think I would be most excited to have drinks at Poor Richard’s because I would be able to channel my inner Meredith and who doesn’t want to do that?!

The Scranton landmark I would most like to see if I win the tickets from The Office Fan Tour Giveaway is the Penn Paper building, seen during the opening credits courtesy of John Krasinski’s home video!

The Office Fan Tour Giveaway –

I would most like to visit Cugino’s because their bread is *very* tasty.

I would love to win The Office Fan Tour Giveaway! I think I would most like to see the Scranton sign because it’s in the opening credits and is just so iconic of The Office.

I would love to win the Office Fan Tour Giveaway because that would give me another chance to go back to Scranton. I’ve always been most excited to see Lake Scranton because it is so pretty and not at all what you’d expect it to be.

The place I’d love to visit the most would be Poor Richard’s, the place where Pam finally ended things with Roy!

I’d love to visit Lake Scranton because I haven’t been there yet, and because it’s where Pam found the courage to tell Jim how she felt. Pam’s journey has been an inspiration to me. The Beach Games episode is one of my favorites, and I’ve been trying to get some of my Office fan friends to go on a tour with me. I can’t wait to go back to Scranton!! Thanks Tanster!

I would like to win the Office Fan Tour Giveaway because I would like to see Poor Richard’s, since it is mentioned so frequently on the show!

If I won, I would be most excited about seeing Poor Richard’s, just because it’s seen so often on the show.

The Scranton landmark I am most excited about seeing on The Office Fan Tour Giveaway is Lake Scranton because, as an enormous Jim and Pam fan, I feel like the Lake is such a pivotal place in the Jam relationship. Even though I would love to (and would be honored to) see all of the landmarks in Scranton; cecause… “There ain’t no party like a Scranton party ‘cuz a Scranton party don’t stop!”

If I won ‘The Office Fan Tour Giveaway’, I would be most excited to see Lake Scranton. I have loved watching the relationship between Pam and Jim unfold, and Lake Scranton was the location for such an important stepping stone in their relationship. I would be excited to stand where Pam declared her love for Jim!

The Scranton landmark I am most excited about seeing on The Office Fan Tour Giveaway is Lake Scranton because, as an enormous Jim and Pam fan, I feel like the Lake is such a pivotal place in the Jam relationship. Even though I would love to (and would be honored to) see all of the landmarks in Scranton; because… “There ain’t no party like a Scranton party ‘cuz a Scranton party don’t stop!”

I would love to see the “Scranton Welcomes You” sign on The Office Fan Tour Giveaway. After all, how else better to embrace people, traditions and future then taking a picture hugging the “Scranton Welcome You” sign!

If I won the “Office Fan Tour Giveaway” I would want to visit Poor Richards Pub the most. Maybe i’ll be luck and win a yellow duck for pam ;) I have been dying to take the office tour!

If I won, I’d be most interested to see Lake Scranton because it’s the primary setting for one of my favorite episodes (“Beach Games”) and I’d probably bring my GPS to see how on Earth Michael ended up turning his Sebring into it, when there is CLEARLY not a road there.

This is a really hard question because I would be really excited if I saw got to go see the landmarks of Scranton. I would probably have to pick Poor Richard’s because it is referenced the most. Hopefully I will be able to have as good a time as the characters from the show.

If I won “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway” and I got to visit Scranton, I would love to go to Lake Wallenpaupack. I don’t know if there are booze cruises on it, but if there are it would be pretty awesome to go on one.

If I won the Office Fan Tour Giveaway, I would want to visit Poor Richards because of all the great episodes tied to that place, and most especially, because that’s where we got to see Possessive Jim come out when the bartender tried to put the moves on Pam in Season 4 Local Ad.

Winning “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway” would be a dream come true! I’m most excited about visiting Cooper’s. The beet salad sounds a little scary, but I would love to try it just to say I have.

If I won the “Office Fan Tour Giveaway” I would be most excited to visit Poor Richards. It seems like it would actually be a fun place I would frequent if I lived in Scranton. I mean, I’m no Meredith, but I’m just saying.

I’d consider myself lucky to win “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway” because it would mean…a day or two out of my OWN office! :) I’d most like to see the Steamtown Mall, because what girl wouldn’t love to shop in the fashion capital of the USA – Scranton, PA!

The landmark I’d most be excited for is Poor Richard’s, because it seems to be the most referenced. Who wouldn’t want to hang out where “The Office” gang do? I probably won’t win The Office Fan Tour Giveaway but a girl’s gotta dream.

If I won the tickets from The Office Fan Tour Giveaway I’d like to go to Steamtown Mall.

…because I do have some things to return in the trunk of my car.

The landmark I’d most like to see is Poor Richards…because the duck in the vending machine is so cute. I wonder if they have another.

If I win The Office Fan Tour Giveaway, the landmark I most want to see is the “Electric City” sign, WHAT? The “Electric City” sign! WHAT? The “Electric City” sign!!

I would love to visit Poor Richard’s, and then have my best friend’s bachelorette party there, the attendants are all office fans!

If I won The Office Fan Tour Giveaway I would like to see Lake Wallenpaupack because my favorite episode was the Booze Cruise!

I would like to have a beer at Poor Richard’s if I won the Office Fan Tour Giveaway!

If I won The Office Fan Tour Giveaway, I would find the Chili’s restaurant closest to Scranton, then proceed to ask them all about the Dundie awards ceremonies, including a certain crazy receptionist. I would also bring my Dundie with me so my sister and I could act out part of the awards episode – and sing the baby back ribs song. (Is it bad that it would be a dream come true if we were banned for life?) And for those wondering about more “official” Scranton landmarks, I’d make my own drive-by opening credit video sequence for good measure.

For The Office Fan Tour Giveaway, I’d want to visit Lake Scranton to see if I could find Andy floating in it.

[from tanster: March 2010 winner]

If my fiance and I were to win “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway” it would be a great early honeymoon for us (we get married in July). The sight we’re most excited to see is COOPERS Restaurant which is ironic because my fiance is allergic to shellfish. Please pick us, we’re the LATINO version of Jim & Pam :)

ohmigod. i am so pumped about this! i know im just a teen, but if i won the ‘Office Fan Tour Giveaway’, it would be the highlight of my life! you have no idea :) id love to visit everywhere the tour goes and more!

If I win “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway”, I would be most excited about seeing Lake Scranton because I love mother nature and its now a tourist location made possible by…my favorite actor B.J. Novak!

If I am the winner of the Office Fan Tour Giveaway, I would be the most excited to visit Poor Richard’s pub because that is a place that the office workers in the show like to hang out at a lot after work and I think it would be interesting to see the place that inspired that.

If I was the winner of the “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway”, I would be most excited to visit Lake Wallenpaupack because Booze Cruise is one of my all time favorite episodes!!

If my boyfriend and I were the winners of “The Office Fan Tour Giveaway” the landmark that we would most enjoy seeing would be Lake Scranton as shown in the “Beach Games” episode. This is one of our favorites as it is where Pam was finally able to prove something to herself and stand up to the others.

Wow, they’re upping the price again! It’s becoming costly but it’s so worth it for as much fun as it is. I see it’s now once a month too. I’m sure I’ll still find myself up there at least once next year.

I don’t see the tour times…when does it start and end??? Thank you, Brenda

I flew in from the UK to attend the december office tour (a nice couple from Australia also were on this tour)so i was hoping that i would not be disappointed after all that travelling and i have to say i wasn’t , Tim, amanda and graham were excellent hosts, and with the food and drinks included it was great value. So any fans should get theirselves over to Scranton- don’t forget your camera as a bonus i found the people of the town really nice and polite.

I can’t wait to go to one of the tours! Does anybody know the dates any of the cast members may be joining the tour?

[from tanster: please contact the tour organizers with your feedback, thanks!]

It’s an amazingly fun time! I probably won’t make it up there at all this summer due to increased tour and gas prices. Although, if anyone important (or cast wise) is planning to go, I’ll consider it.

The tour was closed when we went, but luckily I planned ahead. Good that we did because we hit a whole bunch of Office places that aren’t on the tour. Ie, Lackawanna Hotel, Glider Diner, and a bunch of cool coffee shops that are sporting Office art. Poor Richards at night was creepy and the bartender was rude. So go in the day if you can. Coopers was cool but make sure you can get a room in the main dining hall and not in the back room because it’s just a normal room. I recommend mapping out the Office spots before going.

Congrats on such an original and unique business model that allows fans to express their love of the office as well as make a pilgrimage to Scranton. Been all over the world, but am seriously considering a vacation to scranton, pa to see the office tour.

Fan Tours return tomorrow! 5 tours scheduled this year.

Did the tour last Spring… now you guys MUST find a way to do another convention! Let’s make it happen!

Does anyone know if they will be doing fan tours in 2013 after the show is over? I missed out this year, and really wanted to check it out.

Please post the schedule for 2013! I will be visiting PA and seeing The Office landmarks is a must!

Yes! Been wanting to go for forever, would love to still have the chance.

My fiance got me tickets for this in November 2012 and it was a lot of fun. They have so many stories and the people that run it are really nice. You stop at Lake Scranton, Cooper’s for a family style lunch and some drinks, stop in front of Farley’s, Poor Richard’s for some drinks, and you go inside the Steamtown Mall to take pictures in front of the Welcom to Scranton sign. It is completely worth it. My fiance and I went to Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe for dinner too. Andy Buckley (David Wallace) also called in and talked to us. If you can go you definitely should!

I’d freaking LOVE to take The Office tour!!!

The Office Fan’s Guide to Scranton

Scranton. What? The Electric City! Are you a super fan of all things The Office? If so, a pilgrimage to Scranton, Pennsylvania is a requirement! There are many nods in the show to actual Scranton landmarks that are definitely worth a visit. This is The Office Fan’s Guide to Scranton!

a view of penn paper in scranton, pennsylvania from the office

The theme song just started playing in your head, didn’t it? Penn Paper is the iconic shot that no visit to Scranton would be complete without getting! Penn Paper is located at 215 Vine Street, but the best vantage point is actually up the road a bit. The best place to park is here (on the corner of Vine and Oakford), and found it was the perfect distance and angle! This will be the picture you post that will make your fellow Dunder Mifflin enthusiasts jealous 😉

poor richards pub in scranton from the tv show the office

Poor Richard’s Pub

What is Poor Richard’s most iconic scene? The jury is still out, because there are just so many! It’s where Roy and his brother trash the bar after Pam confesses to kissing Jim in Cocktails (Season 3, Episode 17). Devin invites everyone to get a drink here after getting fired in Halloween (Season 2, Episode 5). Well, not everyone (because the people he doesn’t name can “go to hell.”). It’s also where Michael hosts a viewing party for his commercial in Local Ad (Season 4, Episode 5). This is also when we all definitely started crying. The list goes on.

the office fan tour scranton pa

Poor Richard’s is a little trickier to find. In the show, it is a standalone bar, but in real life it is actually located inside a bowling alley. Possibly the same bowling alley that Ryan worked at before joining the Michael Scott Paper Company? South Side Bowl is found on Google Maps by clicking here . Once you arrive, head into the main doors and turn immediately to the right. The famous “Poor Richard’s Bar” sign is hung right outside the doors. They may be propped open though, so be sure to look behind them for the photo op!

Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe

IMPORTANT: Not to be confused with Pizza by Alfredo! According to Kevin, Pizza by Alfredo is “like eating a hot circle of garbage!” Alfredo’s was brought to life in the episode Launch Party (Season 4, Episodes 5/6). Michael accidentally orders pizza from Pizza by Alfredo, and the holds the delivery boy hostage when he refuses to accept a coupon. Toby also wins a week of free pizzas when Alfredo’s pulls his business card in Fun Run (Season 4, Episodes 1/2).

As it turns out, Pizza by Alfredo does not actually exist (which is a good thing). However, Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe is a very real restaurant in Scranton. It is located in a strip mall very close to Poor Richard’s and can be found on Google Maps by clicking here .

Cooper’s Seafood

Cooper’s is a fan favorite of Dunder Mifflin employees and is mentioned several times throughout the series. The restaurant’s claim to fame is that it’s the site where Michael takes Holly in the episode Business Ethics (Season 5, Episode 3). Here, they discuss what should be done about Meredith confessing to sleeping with a Hammermill paper rep in exchange for discounts on supplies (and Outback Steakhouse coupons).

Cooper’s is easy to find on Google Maps, but an exact pin to the location can be found here . Parking is easy, and the lot is located on N Washington Street. It is very spacious for walking around and getting the iconic shot of the lighthouse and nautical getup.

Lake Scranton

Ah, scenic Lake Scranton. America’s eighth-largest indigenous body of water (is it?). Lake Scranton is the famous site of the Beach Games (Season 3, Episode 22) where Michael takes the employees for a day at the beach to find his successor. The real Lake Scranton unfortunately doesn’t have a beach that you can lay on and eat hot dogs (even if that’s all you’ve ever wanted). There is however, a walking path around the circumference that is about 3.5 miles. Located on the corner of Moosic and Lake Scranton Road, parking here is very easy. Coincidentally, it’s near the Northeast corner where the famous games were held. If you listen closely, you may hear Andy screaming in his sumo suit as he floats on the lake.

The Office Road Trip

Welcome to Dunder Mifflin Paper Products in Scranton, PA.

  • Featured Trip Guides
  • Movie Filming Locations

Created by Roadtrippers - March 9th 2016

Saddened by life in a post-"Office" world? No need to fret! The magical paper supply company lives on in Scranton, PA. As Pennsylvania’s sixth most populous city, Scranton is truly a vibrant and “electric” city. Literally. It’s no wonder The Office location scouts decided to set the iconic docu-comedy here. Although they were looking for somewhere droll to compete with Slough, in the UK, its British TV sister-city (at least according to the show’s creators), Scranton proved to be much more charming and the location scouts certainly had fun making the city come to life on the show. So, take a tour of Scranton by visiting "The Office" filming locations!

Lake Wallenpaupack

Lake Wallenpaupack is the infamous lake where Michael took the gang on a “Booze Cruise” in Season 2. In real life, the freshwater lake is the third largest in PA, with 52 miles of shore. Booze and cruise not included!

Lake Scranton

Lake Scranton makes a couple of fun appearances. We first visit the lake in Season 3’s episode “Beach Games", where Michael attempts to find his replacement. Then, again, in Season 4’s “Dunder Miffflin Infinity”, Michael stupidly drives his car into the lake after misunderstanding the directions from his GPS.

Cooper's Seafood

Cooper’s Seafood is where Michael takes Holly for an uncomfortable lunch in Season 5’s episode “Business Ethics.” It's a lighthouse/pirate-ship-themed pub with a tiki-inspired patio out back, which makes this an interesting place to eat out, whether or not you have weird feelings about your dining partner.

Steamtown Mall

Michael tries to show his appreciation for the women of the office in Season 3’s “Women’s Appreciation” episode. He does this by bringing them to the Steamtown Mall to dish over lunch at the food court...and then to Victoria’s Secret to let them get whatever outfit they want. Classic Michael Scott.

Ah, Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe…NOT to be confused with Pizza by Alfredo! This is the preferred pizza joint of the employees of Dunder Mifflin Scranton. In the episode “Launch Party” in Season 4, Michael accidentally orders pizza from Pizza by Alfredo and ends up kidnapping the pizza boy because he wouldn’t accept his coupons for Alfredo's Pizza Cafe.

You may remember the Anthracite Heritage Museum from Season 3‘s episode, “The Merger.” This place was featured in the orientation video that Michael and Dwight created. "Scranton! What? The Electric City!"

Photo of Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour

Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour

Way back in Season 1, Michael outsourced the office’s healthcare plan to Dwight, who gutted it. So, to make up for the awful new healthcare plan, Michael tried to make reservations at the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour mistakenly thinking it’s a fun thrill ride. It's definitely not a thrill ride, but it's still an interesting tour!

Even though The Office may be gone, it's certainly not forgotten...hopefully it will forever remain in our hearts, and on Netflix...and this road trip through Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The Office 5K season three kicks off

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — For fans of the mockumentary sitcom "The Office", what happened in Lackawanna County was not exactly "Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial celebrity rabies awareness pro-am fun-run race for the cure".

Runners hit the pavement in the Electric City for "The Office 5k".

The annual race took participants past familiar landmarks like the Penn Paper building which are highlighted in the show.

The race also brought out actor Andy Buckley who played Dunder Mifflin's former CFO David Wallace.

Memorial run held in Luzerne County to combat DUI

Super fans ran in various costumes from the show with the best one running home with a "Fundie", but it was a University of Scranton athlete who won the race.

"Good course. It was cool seeing everyone in their costumes and stuff, just really fun," said Joseph Kilpatrick a student-athlete at the University of Scranton.

"It's such a fun beautiful show. The Michael Scott heart is the thing that sort of sets the tone for everything," added Buckley.

Organizers say 1500 runners took part in today's "The Office 5k" the most in the three years they have held it.
