FARM TOURS IN REDMOND OREGON
Farm fun & farm tours in redmond oregon.
Just a short distance from the bustle of downtown Redmond are hard-working farmers and ranchers. Our love of land goes beyond the desert rocks and mountains to the soil itself. You’d be surprised at how much of our produce, meat, and dairy are locally grown by local farmers.
For local produce seven days a week, we recommend the Well Rooted Farms Veggie Shed. Or get up-close-and-personal and book a farm tour . Well Rooted Farms boasts happy hogs and cows plus rows upon rows of delicious veggies and 600 laying chickens for quality farm fresh eggs.
Every fall you will find us at DD Ranch picking out the perfect pumpkin and running through the corn maze. They have events throughout the year. DD Ranch is known for their grass-fed beef and lamb, heritage pork, free-range eggs, and raw honey.
Petting an alpaca is a rite of passage around here. To participate in the custom, head over to Crescent Moon Ranch in Terrebonne. Wander their acreage with views of the Cascade Mountains, Smith Rock, and rolling pastures of fluffy alpacas. We always spend a few bucks on the alpaca feed to be sure we get some good pets in. Be sure to stop by the boutique to peruse beautiful alpaca textiles.
We visit Faith, Hope, and Charity Vineyard to truly taste local agricultural dedication. Central Oregon is not the easiest place to grow grapes with an average of just 90 growing days each year. But with research and innovative frost protection processes, Faith Hope and Charity Vineyards has become known for their red and whites made from cold-hardy grapes. With awesome views of Three Sisters mountains (originally named Faith, Hope and Charity), live music, and great wines – this is an excellent spot to celebrate the soil of Central Oregon.
When travel time is limited, you’ll find us at our local markets here in town. From June through September, Centennial Park is home to the Redmond Farmers Market every Tuesday from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. Find local Central Oregon farm-fresh produce, organic eggs and meat, bakers, makers and crafters, fresh flowers, local spirits, CBD & more at the dog and kid-friendly farmers market. The Redmond Farmers Market is not only a place to shop, but to connect with producers and learn more about the area and what they love. Be on the lookout for the upcoming Saturday Markets at General Duffy’s Waterhole . Local crafters and makers gather to sell their handmade wares alongside local farmers and food producers.

Oregon Starts SHUTTING DOWN Small Local Farms “To Protect The People”
Posted: April 26, 2024 | Last updated: April 26, 2024
Oregon often praised for its lush landscapes and agricultural heritage, is now embroiled in controversy as small family farms face unprecedented challenges. Under the guise of environmental protection and water conservation, state authorities are using regulatory measures to shutter these farms en masse. This assault on Oregon’s small farms threatens farmers’ livelihoods and raises fundamental questions about food sovereignty and individual freedoms.
Targeting Family Farms
Oregon’s aggressive regulatory crackdown on small family farms is at the heart of the issue. Bureaucrats have resorted to labeling these farms as concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs), utilizing broad definitions that encompass even modest homesteads. This misclassification serves as the pretext for the closure of farms that violate environmental standards.
Mislabeling Small Farms: Defining CAFOs
The state’s definition of CAFOs, characterized by its vagueness and overreach, has sparked widespread outcry among farmers and legal experts alike. Even homesteads with minimal livestock and pasture areas fall prey to this arbitrary classification, facing the threat of closure and punitive measures.
Broad Definitions and Legal Challenges
Legal challenges have emerged in response to Oregon’s broad definitions of CAFOs, with lawsuits arguing against the disproportionate impact on small family farms. Critics contend that the state’s regulatory framework fails to account for the scale and nature of these operations, imposing undue burdens on farmers striving to maintain sustainable practices.
Impact on Small Dairy Farmers
Among the hardest hit by Oregon’s regulatory onslaught are small dairy farmers, who find themselves grappling with onerous requirements and compliance costs. The discrepancy between regulatory expectations and the economic viability of small-scale dairy operations threatens the survival of these traditional family-owned businesses.
Water Use Restrictions
In addition to regulatory hurdles, Oregon’s stringent restrictions on water use pose significant challenges for farmers. Prohibitive regulations governing access to groundwater and surface water further exacerbate the plight of small-scale agricultural producers, hindering their ability to irrigate crops and sustain livestock.
Public vs. Private Water Resources
Oregon’s classification of all water resources as public assets, including groundwater on private property, underscores the state’s expansive reach into agricultural affairs. This encroachment on private property rights and water use autonomy represents a fundamental challenge to farmers’ sovereignty over their land and resources.
The Erosion of Agricultural Diversity
Critics argue that Oregon’s regulatory measures serve to consolidate power and control over the food market, favoring large-scale industrial operations at the expense of small family farms. The erosion of agricultural diversity undermines local economies and diminishes consumers’ access to fresh, locally sourced produce.
Constitutional Rights and Food Freedom
Amidst the regulatory onslaught, questions of constitutional rights and food freedom come to the forefront. Americans’ inherent right to grow, produce, and consume food of their choosing is under threat, highlighting the need for robust protections against government overreach in agricultural policy.
Lessons for the Future
As Oregon grapples with the repercussions of its regulatory overreach, the implications extend far beyond state borders. The plight of small family farms serves as a cautionary tale, underscoring the need for balanced and equitable agricultural policies that safeguard the interests of farmers and consumers alike.
Protecting Small-scale Agriculture
What do you think? How can states like Oregon strike a balance between environmental conservation and supporting small family farms? What role should local communities play in advocating for the protection of small-scale agricultural operations?
Impact On Food Availability
Do you believe that Oregon’s regulatory actions against small farms are justified in the name of environmental protection, or do they constitute government overreach? How might the closure of small family farms impact the availability and diversity of locally produced food?
