Attractions and Things to Do at Atlantis Paradise Island

There are 85 gaming tables, 21 restaurants, and 19 bars and lounges at Atlantis Paradise Island. However, while throwing down some cash on the craps tables or roulette wheel may satisfy some visitors, others—especially families—are drawn to the Atlantis' aquatic allure; specifically the resort's spectacular "lost world" themed water park, dolphin encounter program, beaches, and the underground mysteries of The Dig, a walk-through exploration of the Lost City of Atlantis. Day tickets for all of these activities can be purchased at Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property.

Given the hordes of visitors to the Atlantis daily, it's not surprising that the resort limits access to some of these attractions—notably the Aquaventure pool and water park area—to preserve a premier experience for hotel guests. However, that does not mean that day-trippers can't visit the Atlantis attractions, including Aquaventure; you'll have to pay a bit for the privilege (and expect a significant markup on these prices if you buy through a cruise line).

  • Dolphin Cay at Atlantis: Day visitors can swim and play with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at the state-of-the-art, 14-acre habitat.
  • Discover Atlantis Tour: This tour is best known to day-trippers, in part because it is sold as an excursion on cruise ships. Expert "Navigators" guide visitors through the ancient city streets of Atlantis during a visit to "The Dig," a faux-but-believable archaeological exploration of an 11,000-year-old lost continent. The attraction is full of interesting artifacts, along with great water effects and glimpses of exotic sea life, including piranha, moon jellyfish, venomous lionfish, and a resident manta ray. A Discover Atlantis Tour wristband allows visitors to explore The Dig and its exhibits as well as the Ruins, Predator, and Water’s Edge Lagoons—but not the waterpark.
  • Atlantis Beach Day: The Atlantis Beach Day program provides all-day access to the Atlantis resort's exclusive white sandy beaches, with lounge chairs and towels provided. It also includes access to marine habitats and lunch at an outside venue.
  • Atlantis Aquaventure Package : Day-trippers can purchase an Atlantis Aquaventure package that provides all-day access to pools, beaches, and Aquaventure, a 141-acre waterscape containing over 20 million gallons of water with water slides, and a mile-long river ride with high-intensity rapids and wave surges. The passes are only available to guests staying at partners of the Atlantis Resort. They can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures Desk at the clock tower in front of The Coral.

How to Get There

Paradise Island (formerly Hog Island) is a 685-acre island off the northern coast of Nassau, the capital of the island of New Providence. There is no public transport to take you to Paradise Island—the local bus system, the "jitney," will only take you as far as the ferry terminal, so your best bet is either to take a ferry or a taxi.

To access Paradise Island by water, hop aboard a 15-minute ferry ride from Nassau to Paradise Island. The ferry departs from Nassau Cruise Port from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $3 for a one-way ticket. On your boat ride to Paradise Island, a guide will also give you a brief history lesson of the island and its many attractions. Once you've arrived on Paradise Island, it's a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock to Marina Village in Atlantis.

If you decide to rent a car, note that there is limited free parking available on Paradise Island (and limited spots are found near the public beach). The best alternative is to valet your vehicle at the cost of $16.75 per day. Whether you're driving or opting for a taxi, be prepared to pay the northbound one-way $1 bridge toll. In taxis, this will be on top of your metered fare—and the average cost for a one-way trip from Lynden Pindling International Airport to Paradise Island is about $35. Another alternative is to be dropped off along the coast of New Providence to walk across the bridge (an activity that is toll-free). Once you've arrived on the island, there's no need to rent a car, as visitors can easily walk the grounds and explore everything the hotel has to offer on foot.

Day passes are mandatory for all non-hotel guests at the Atlantis to experience Dolphin Cay, the waterpark, the marine habitat, and the beaches. The passes can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures desk, situated at the clock tower at The Coral. These passes have been known to sell out, so it's imperative to book online in advance. World Travel Holdings also sells day passes to Aquaventure, Atlantis Dolphin Cay, and the iconic British Colonial Hilton. These passes are marketed primarily to cruise visitors but can be an excellent add-on for anyone visiting Nassau.

  • The Aquaventure pass includes admission to Aquaventure and The Dig, lounge chairs, and towels.
  • Dolphin Cay experiences include a shallow-water interaction with dolphins.
  • The British Colonial Hilton pass includes all-day access to the resort's pristine private beach and pool, snorkeling and kayaking, lounge chairs and towels, and a food and beverage credit.

Tips for Visitors

  • There's more to Paradise Island than just the Atlantis, so be sure to explore the rest of the island. We suggest hiking to the Nassau lighthouse for gorgeous seaside views along the coast. Of all the waterpark attractions, the underwater shark walk is not to be missed—imagine a turquoise tunnel full of predators. (It's as scary and thrilling as it sounds).
  • There is no visitor information center in Paradise Island, so make sure to consult downtown the tourist information available for visitors in downtown Nassau.
  • If you're planning on staying for dinnertime, make a reservation in advance, as restaurants can become busy, especially in the colder months. Additionally, the resort will limit attractions during the peak busy season to preserve hotel guests' experience—a hindrance that won't be an issue for you if you're visiting during the off-season. If you're visiting in the off-season (summer and fall), expect fewer crowds—for the waterslides and the bars and restaurants, alike.
  • If you're taking the ferry to Paradise Island, remember to bring cash. Although exact change isn't necessary, it's helpful as you will be expected to tip your tour guides, who provide colorful commentary and historical insight into the past and present-day iterations of Nassau and Paradise Island.

Day Trip to Atlantis: 11 Things to Do for Non Guests

How to help with Hurricane Dorian Relief, info featured by top US travel blog, Running in Heels

Atlantis is a beautiful, but heavily guarded place. Located on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas, about five minutes from downtown Nassau, Bahamas. There is security on every corner and every doorway asking for your room key (they’re dated) or your wristband. There are, however, a few places you can go without these things. Of course, Atlantis isn’t known for being a bargain, so nothing is free, but some things you can do without a day pass, though your options are limited. If you are traveling to the Bahamas , I recommend a day trip to visit Atlantis . Below are the top things to do for non-guests!

“Free” Things To Do on a Day Trip to Atlantis – No Day Pass Needed

Atlantis doesn’t do “free” well, so by “free” I really mean, you can enter for free, but it’s assumed you’ll spend money while you are there. Don’t expect to access much of the property. Without a Day Pass, you’ll likely not be able to get past security to see much of the resort. They were very strict about wristbands and room keys (which are dated with your checkout date). The only places you are able to access are the Casino, Marina Village, and the lobby areas. You will not be allowed to go into the resort to view the marine life habitats or outside to the pool areas. Forget about seeing the crystal blue waters at the beach without a pass, so if that is your goal, scroll down and take a look at what you can do with a day pass!

Marina Village

Marina Village is located next to the hotel on the edge of the marina. It is full of colorful shops, restaurants, and street vendors. Though it is open to the public and looks separate, it is an extension of the Atlantis property, so reservations to restaurants will be more difficult to get since guests of the hotel take priority.

Shops available range from Atlantis souvenirs to Rum Cake Vendors, Pirhana Joe, and several luxury jewelry stores.

The Atlantis Casino is open to the public at all times. Of course, everyone can come in and gamble their money away! The casino is truly amazing, with 85 gaming tables and over 700 slot machines. With several restaurants inside, it also features famous glass art sculptures by the renowned artist, Dale Chihuly. Note: Children are not allowed in the casino, and the gambling age in the Bahamas is 18.

Joker’s Wild Comedy Club

For the price of a ticket (around $20-30), you can get into the comedy club, which is open to the public. Every day Joker’s Wild Comedy Club hosts some of “television’s funniest comics”. When we were there we saw Valarie Storm and Johnny Lee Dam .

Go Shopping

Inside Atlantis, there is more shopping. Just outside of the Casino on either side, you’ll find several luxury designer boutiques among additional souvenir shops.

Book a Spa Day

The Mandara Spa is open to the public, so you can book your spa day at Atlantis without being a guest. However, there is limited availability, so book ahead of your trip to secure your spot! Before your service even starts you can enjoy the sauna in addition to warm and cold plunge pools. Click here for details on spa services .

Atlantis Dolphin Cay

Atlantis has its own manmade, open-air dolphin habitat created in response to Hurricane Katrina destroying the habitat of 17 stranded dolphins. During your visit, you can book one of many experiences in the Dolphin Cay ranging from snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, and more with dolphins and sea lions. Here is a list of experiences you may book at the Dolphin Cay . Book ahead, they fill up fast! Every visit benefits the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation , which is dedicated to saving sea species and their habitats.

*When you purchase the Dolphin Cay, you may have the opportunity to bundle it with a Day Pass.

Can You Take Photos in the Dolphin Cay?

If you have someone in your party watching from shore, they will have to pay a small fee (under $20) to get into the beach area as well. There is a free viewing area, but it is too far away for photos for the most part. I’d recommend having them pay to get in, that fee will be much less expensive than the professional photos. If you do love some of the professional photos they take but don’t want a whole package, wait until you get home and download from the website they give you. You can get a single download for half of the price they sell it for in the shop. The professional photographer took the photo below and I think it was worth the cost!

Day Trip to Atlantis for Non Guests

Marine Experiences

In addition to the Dolphin Cay, there are other marine experiences you can sign up for including snorkel, scuba, shark encounters, stingray experiences, and more . We have not had these experiences, but they look incredible! With your purchase of a Marine Experience, you may be able to bundle with a day pass. Additionally, each booked experience with Every Atlantis Adventure and Blue Adventure benefits the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation .

Things To Do on a Day Trip to Atlantis with a Day-Pass

There are several different types of Day-Passes, once purchased, you are good to roam the properties, just as a guest. You can purchase a day pass through the front desk, your cruise line, or online ahead of time. With a Day Pass, you’ll have the same access as resort guests and access to the amenities, restaurants, pools, marine life habitats, and beaches.

Aquaventure Park + Pools

The Aquaventure Park is one of the most notable features of Atlantis, and I think it’s the most fun water park in the Caribbean! There are seven water slides, two rivers, one lazy river, and one rapid river, as well as 11 pools and four private beaches. The beaches are white sand with gorgeous clear blue waters. Cove Beach was one of our favorites!

Marine Habitats

Atlantis is home to the largest open-air marine habitat in the world. Throughout all of Atlantis, there are amazing aquariums and marine life habitats including sharks, manta rays, turtles, dolphins, stingrays, and so many more. As you walk the grounds you can find the habitats and learn about the marine life inside.

An aquarium home to some of the world’s most exotic sea creatures. Fashioned after the lost continent of Atlantis, The Dig features 8 separate exhibits featuring several different fish and marine creatures. In The Dig you might even see their giant manta ray!

Lay on the Private Beach

Private beaches are another benefit of getting a day pass to Atlantis. Chairs, umbrellas, and towels are all available to you to use by the pools and on the beaches. The beaches are uncrowded with white sand and crystal clear waters. I promise the view is something you can’t get sick of!

Marine Habitats: 0:10 The Dig: 1:40 , 5:47 Marina Village: 1:52 , 5:42 Aquaventure Park: 3:40 Private Beach: 6:14 Dolphin Cay: 6:46 Joker’s Wild Comedy Club: 9:00 Casino: 11:53

Looks so fun! I’d love to visit Atlantis!

http://innapishtoy.com/

Thank you! It was such a great time!

Basically you can only visit to Casino as a Non Visitor for free. Otherwise Atlantis has Day pass and always blocked by security. So don’t waste time trying to sneak in.

Yes, definitely was not suggesting anyone try to sneak in. Please purchase your day pass for the necessary activities!

So with a day pass, can one sit on Beach chairs at any of the beaches?

I believe the chairs are free but you would need to reserve and pay for a cabana.

Atlantis Bahamas Day Pass: 3 Things You Need To Know

By Lisa Wells September 27, 2019 Updated: November 12, 2023 · This post may contain affiliate links · 7 Comments

Atlantis Bahamas Day Pass Guide - Coastal Wandering

Here are 3 key things you need to know before you book your Atlantis Bahamas day pass. This includes knowing the best things to do and see, taking a closer look at each of the day pass options, and understanding when and how you should book your day trip.

Atlantis Bahamas Day Pass Guide - Coastal Wandering

If you're planning a Caribbean cruise with Nassau listed as one of its ports of call then you're likely to see the Atlantis Bahamas day pass as one of your choices among the shore excursion packages.

No matter whether you're a beach lover, water park-loving thrill-seeker, first-time cruiser , or aquarium junkie, this huge action-packed resort truly offers something for every type of traveler.

It's the perfect choice if you're cruising the Caribbean! But before you start booking your day trip, you'll need to know what you want to do and see at the Atlantis Bahamas resort.

The Atlantis day passes aren't created equally and there's no "All Access" pass that gives you unlimited access to everything on the resort, so you'll need to consider your options carefully and decide what type of day you'd like to have onshore.

With that in mind, this guide is intended to help you understand your activity options, what the Atlantis Bahamas day passes do (and don't) cover, as well as where and when you should book your day pass.

Ready to start planning your visit to Atlantis Bahamas now? Book your day pass here.

1. Learn The Best Things To Do At Atlantis Bahamas Resort

Whether you're in the mood to kick back at the beach or zip down a waterslide, Atlantis Paradise Island offers plenty of activities for every type of traveler.

Here are some of the best things to do during your day onshore:

Soak Up The Sun On The Atlantis Bahamas Beaches

You'll find five miles of white sandy beaches along the edge of the resort – beautiful white sandy shores and exquisite blue waters split across three pristine beaches and one lagoon beach. It's truly any beach-lover's paradise !

Atlantis Beach near Nassau, Bahamas - Coastal Wandering

Whether you visit Cove Beach, Atlantis Beach, Paradise Beach or the Lagoon Beach, you're sure to find a beach vibe that suits your style. While Cove Beach and Paradise Beach are a little more tranquil and laid-back, Atlantis Beach is the action-packed destination, located right at the heart of the Atlantis resort.

And if you're in the mood for a water activity or two, you'll want to visit Paradise Lagoon Beach. This sheltered environment is a great place to snorkel, go for a paddle in a paddleboat, or enjoy one of the other nearby water sports.

Here's a little glimpse of the beautiful ocean views on the main beach:

Explore The Dig & Other Atlantis Marine Habitats

The Dig and Atlantis marine habitats are an absolute must-see if you're even remotely interested in marine wildlife. And you're reading this...so you probably are. Why is this a must-see? Because Atlantis Bahamas houses the biggest open-air marine habitat in the entire world!

The Atlantis marine habitats cover 14 lagoons with more than 50,000 (!!!) aquatic sea creatures, which when combined, span over 250 different marine species. And those 14 lagoons hold more than eight million gallons of seawater. This aquarium is serious business. It's probably the next best thing to visiting a coral reef !

And among these marine habitats is none other than "The Dig". This very popular habitat offers its visitors a look at over 100 venomous Indo-Pacific Ocean lionfish, Moray eels and all sorts of iridescent jellyfish. All in all, the Dig offers a pretty spectacular sight to behold!

Take just a few steps outside the Atlantis aquarium and you'll find yourself in front of the Stingray Lagoon. This is where you'll have a chance to get a closer look at some spectacular rays.

Wondering what else you can see in the Atlantis marine habitats? Enormous groupers, "Jewel Habitats" of beautiful tropical fish, and special exhibits with lobster, seahorses, clownfish, triggerfish, Bermuda chubs and more. You'll even have the rare opportunity to get an up-close-and-personal look at Great Hammerhead sharks, Caribbean Reef sharks and Smalltooth Sawfish.

If you'd prefer to steer clear of the more dangerous species in the aquarium, you should make your way over to the Green sea turtles. And if you're hoping to get really close to some marine wildlife, you'll want to check out the interactive tank filled with conch, starfish, sea urchins, sea cucumbers and crabs.

No matter what your favorite tropical sea creature is, there are probably at least a couple of them that call the Atlantis marine habitats home.

Spend A Day With The Dolphins At Dolphin Cay

If you love dolphins, you'll need to check out Dolphin Cay while you're at Atlantis. This open-air marine mammal habitat stretches over 14 acres of man-made environment.

This is not an entertainment facility. Originally opened in 2007, Dolphin Cay was created to fill a need in providing a safe home to 17 homeless dolphins. The Dolphin Cay lagoon, coves, breathtaking beaches and pool area are the perfect response to this need. And Dolphin Cay also offers an animal rescue-rehabilitation hospital, animal pharmacy, and even provides a safe home for some lucky sea lions in the separate sea lion center.

So, what can you do when you visit Dolphin Cay ? There are plenty of different ways to spend your day with the dolphins. Guests can swim, play, snorkel, kayak or paddleboard alongside the dolphins. And you can even spend a day working alongside one of the trainers!

Splash Around At The Aquaventure Water Park

This highlight is for the thrill seekers in the crowd! The Aquaventure water park is a completely unique, ginormous (141-acres!) water park. It's one of the largest in the world, so if water parks are your thing, you'll need to make sure you stop by!

Guests and day pass holders can enjoy over 18 different water slides, a mile of river-riding fun, 20 different swimming areas and 11 beautiful swimming pools. For those that are curious, this huge water park has over twenty million gallons of water...that's a lot of water! And, of course, the entire park keeps with the Atlantis-themed surroundings. Impressive towers that look like they could be part of an incredible ancient city!

Other Things To Do & See With At Atlantis Bahamas

Of course, the beaches, the Dig, Dolphin Cay and Aquaventure are just a couple of my favorite highlights at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort. You can also:

  • Spend a day at Atlantis' Mandara Spa
  • Game at the Atlantis casino
  • Snorkel with the Cownose stingrays with the Stingray Experience
  • Take a self-guided underground tour of the Atlantis property

With plenty of activity options to choose from, you might just wish you were spending more than a day!

2. Understand Your Atlantis Bahamas Day Pass Options

No matter how you imagine your perfect day in paradise, you'll find the right Atlantis Day Pass to suit your style. While all of the Atlantis Bahamas day passes provide access to the casino, shopping and dining, you'll need to decide what type of activities you would like to do while you're onshore. This will determine which day pass and day pass add-ons you'll need to purchase.

Your 3 Core Atlantis Bahamas Day Pass Choices

You'll have 3 core choices for your Atlantis Bahamas day pass. Here's what each of those day passes does (and doesn't) cover:

Atlantis Beach Day Pass

This day pass gets you exclusive access to the beautiful beaches of Atlantis. While quantities are (of course) limited, you will also have access to the onsite lounge chairs and towels. Pack your beach bag with some reef-safe sunscreen and a good book and you're all set for the day!

You'll have access to:

  • All of the Atlantis beaches, as well as Paradise Lagoon Beach
  • The Discover Atlantis Aquarium Tour
  • Plus all other Atlantis marine habitats
  • Shopping and dining

You will not have access to:

  • The Atlantis pools
  • Aquaventure slides and river rides
  • Private Atlantis lagoons

Aquaventure Water Park Day Pass

The Atlantis Aquaventure day pass gets you unlimited access to enjoy a day at one of the largest water parks in the world! Perfect if you're a thrill-seeker or are just in the mood for a fun water adventure!

  • The entire Aquaventure waterpark
  • 20 swimming areas, including 11 pools
  • The Atlantis beaches

You will not have access to:

  • The Atlantis marine habitats

Discover Atlantis Day Pass

This day pass gives you access to The Dig and the Atlantis marine habitats. Perfect if you're looking for an educational day learning about your favorite sea animals!

  • A self-guided tour through the underwater city of Atlantis
  • Any of the Atlantis beaches
  • Aquaventure water park

Other Adventures To Enjoy With Your Atlantis Day Pass

Want to take your day trip to the next level? Here are two options to try in combination with your Aquaventure Day Pass:

  • Snorkel the Ruins at Atlantis: Enjoy 60 minutes of fun as you snorkel through the Ruins Lagoon. You'll get an up-close look at the sunken ruins of the lost city. This is a particularly fun activity for kids (they must be over the age of 8) and those that are young at heart.
  • Stingray Experience: This is a unique opportunity to have a (literal) hands-on experience with the Atlantis Cownose stingrays. Learn about these incredible creatures and then go for a snorkel among them. This is the best way to get close to these incredible animals.

Or, if you'd just like to spend a little time with the dolphins, you can simply book a Dolphin Cay adventure. There are plenty of different ways to spend a day with these local dolphins and sea lions, including:

  • Swimming with the rescued bottlenose dolphins
  • Playing with the sea lions
  • Spending a day in the life of a trainer
  • Or kayak, paddleboard or snorkel with the dolphins to your heart's content

These Dolphin Cay activities are the only adventures at Atlantis resort that do not require a day pass (but you won't have access to any other part of the resort either).

Whether you choose one (or a couple!) of these add-on activities, you're sure to have a blast during your visit and a fantastic memory to carry with you when you return home.

3. How To Purchase Your Atlantis Day Pass

If your cruise line has a port of call at Nassau, then it's very likely that you'll have the choice of a day trip to Atlantis as one of your onshore excursion packages. There are usually a few different options depending on what you want to see and what time you want to go.

You can also purchase your day pass directly through the Atlantis resort, but you'll have to get your own transportation to and from Paradise Island. (It's a short distance - we could see the Atlantis hotel towers from the ship when we docked at the Nassau cruise port.)

No matter which way you choose to purchase your day pass, you'll want to read the pass description and fine print very carefully. As you've already seen there isn't one day pass that offers access to every part of Atlantis. You'll need to decide what you want to do and then choose your day pass accordingly.

Other Important Details About Booking Your Day Pass

Here are a few key details to note about booking your day pass:

  • No matter whether you book your day pass in advance or on the day you visit, you'll need your cruise line ID or partner hotel room key to redeem your pass.
  • Day pass availability is limited, so you should book your pass in advance if Atlantis is a must-see on your excursion list (it should be!).
  • You'll need to call in advance or take your chances and buy in-person if you decide to book a last-minute day pass. You will not be able to make a same-day reservation online.

If you keep these key details in mind, you'll be sure to have a fantastic day exploring paradise.

Shore Excursion: Day Trip to Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas

Posted By: LesliPeterson

High on our list of priorities during our Carnival Breeze Caribbean cruise in March was a day trip to Atlantis during our port of call in Nassau, Bahamas . Ever since watching a Travel Channel episode about the Paradise Island resort — with its massive Aquaventure waterpark and marine habitats and lagoons (aka an outdoor aquarium that’s so much more than “just” an aquarium) — my children have wanted to check it out. Me too; I’ve long been curious about the tropical mega resort.

Atlantis Resort Paradise Lagoon

You definitely need a paper map, or need to refer to signage often, when maneuvering around the property on a day visit.

Upon hearing that the resort had 4,000 hotel rooms, my son said, “Whoa. Does it have its own zip code?” (Answer: It likely would if the Bahamas used zip codes.)

We set up shop on a group of lounge chairs in Aquaventure water park — 141 acres of pools, kiddie splash areas, water slides, raft rides and lazy rivers.

Surprisingly, even during busy spring break when the entire resort was booked solid, we have no trouble finding a place to stake our claim and store our stuff while we played in the water park.

And play we did! By far, the most entertainment we found was in The Current, a river journey that is nothing but “lazy.” It has four-foot rolling waves and rapids that push you in your innertube along the mile-long “course.”

You can shoot off from The Current into The Power Tower, with its adrenaline-charged slides (body slides or inner tube rides) or just choose to go around and around on The Current — which is what my son and I did for at least an hour.

My daughter and husband braved the line at The Mayan Temple so they could ride a body slide steeply through the shark lagoon!

Lunch was fast food – burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, salad, wraps – at one of the many take-out stand on the property.

Of course, you can also opt for a more civilized meal at one of the sit-down restaurants, too: there are a total of 21 restaurants and 19 bars/lounges on the property!

My son and I took some time to explore The Dig , which recreates the “Lost City of Atlantis” with mythical artifacts and a bevy of marine life.

Various lagoons are filled with sharks, stingrays, sea turtles and more; Atlantis his home to more than 50,000 marine animals.

To my despair, we actually didn’t spend any time on the gorgeous beaches of Atlantis. The white sand and turquoise water combine to make a beautiful setting for rest and relaxation — or playing in the gentle waves.

Atlantis beach

Serene beach scene at Atlantis.

I, did, however take some time to tour AKA/Atlantis Kids Adventure for ages 3 to 12, as well as CRUSH , the interactive, tech-centric spot for tweens and teens to hang out.

(This tour isn’t included in a regular cruise day trip/shore excursion to Atlantis; I’d arranged to visit these sections of the resort for reporting purposes.)

AKA Atlantis

CRUSH Atlantis

Multiple gaming screens at CRUSH tween/teen nightclub.

The bottom line: my children would love to return to Atlantis for an overnight stay not only to have a ball hanging out in the video-filled, nightclub-like CRUSH; tweens (9 to 13) have access to the area in the late afternoon, while it’s turned over to the teens (13 to 17) in the evenings.

Atlantis Aquaventure

I’d hate to dissuade anyone from visiting Atlantis on a cruise shore excursion, because the Aquaventure waterpark alone is a ton of fun; combined with the excellent marine habitat and pretty beaches, Atlantis is a lovely place to spend the day during a port of call, for sure.

However, it’s not a cheap shore excursion. From the Carnival Breeze , a full day at Atlantis Aquaventure with lunch, transportation and access to the beach and marine habitat, costs per adult, and per child. (Access to just the beach and the marine habitat, no Aquaventure, is free.)

To be frank, if I hadn’t received discounted admission for our day trip to Atlantis, I’m not sure I would have coughed up that kind of money just for a 7-hour visit. I’d sooner save my pennies and plan for a multi-night vacation at Atlantis to fully enjoy everything the resort has to offer.

I received discounted admission to Atlantis for our day visit during my Carnival Caribbean cruise.

Pin for later!

This place looks so over the top! Would be nice to try it for a few days though.

Love this! We recently posted a similar review of an Atlantis shore excursion, but this is better. Great photos. Scary shark! We hope you don’t mind we linked to this at hotelswimmingpools.com

' src=

So glad you liked it and happy to be linked to!

' src=

Having just returned last evening from our Carnival Cruise on the Fantasy, I second everything you said except on our ship, the oldest in the fleet 🙁 the amenities and activities were fewer, for example, only one small pool and two modest water slides — we really needed more water fun — so Atlantis, expensive as it was – was a complete and total highlight. I so wish it was longer! We had to drag ourlselves out of there. Nice report — thanks.

' src=

On the last cruise I took, one of the ports of call was Nassau. I have always seen commercials for Atlantis on TV and thought it looked like a lot of fun. However, I really didn’t want to do what I thought would be really touristy. After reading this I think it’s safe to say that on my next cruise to Nassau, I will be spending time at Atlantis; it sounds like it is worth the money!

Thanks for the great review, Kara. Just what I was looking for. I think my kids would love it!

Paradise Island & Atlantis Shore Excursion

Experience the best of Nassau on this interesting and exciting tour of the island, highlighted by a visit to the world-famous Atlantis Resort.

Your Nassau excursion starts when you meet your guide/driver at the pier and get into your air-conditioned vehicle. One of your stops will be at the historic Fort Fincastle, a small fort shaped like a paddle-wheel steamer. The fort was built to protect Nassau from invaders; luckily it never saw warfare. At the fort, you'll have time to explore, climb the Queen Victoria Staircase, do some light shopping on your own, and take all the photos you want.

After marveling at Fincastle, travel along Bay Street, the heart of Nassau's shopping district, and home to the native Straw Market. Some highlights of this excursion include views of the Government House (official residence of the Governor-General of the Bahamas since 1801), the Governor's Mansion, and Gregory's Arch. This stone arch was named after Governor John Gregory, who served around 1850. When you pass through the arch on Market Street, you'll also cross the line that divides downtown Nassau from the rest of the country.

Following this, you will travel to Paradise Island, an island connected to New Providence by two bridges that cross Nassau Harbour. Hog Island Lighthouse, constructed in 1817, is located at the western tip of the island and can be seen from the cruise port.

The highlight of Paradise Island is without a doubt, the world-famous Atlantis, a magnificent resort with over 3,000 hotel rooms, 20 restaurants, a wide variety of stores, a 123-acre water park, beautiful beaches and the largest casino in the Bahamas. The total cost to construct Atlantis was over $2 billion. Your tour will make a short stop at Atlantis, where you'll have free time to explore the amazing lobby, casino, or the shops. After your free time, you will be taken back to your ship.

Guests wishing to end their tour at Atlantis will need to arrange a taxi back to the ship pier at their own expense. There are many taxis available at Atlantis and the approximate cost of the ride to the ship pier is $5 US/person. It is up to the guest to make sure they are back to their ship before sailing time.

A Day at Atlantis Aquaventure - Paradise Island, Bahamas

Modified: Oct 10, 2018 by Stefanie Fauquet · This post may contain affiliate links · 32 Comments

atlantis day pass paradise island

When you dock at the port of Nassau, Atlantis Resort is hard to miss.

With over 2,300 rooms, 35 restaurants & bars, a casino, and the most awesome water park anywhere, Atlantis is more destination than a resort.

In the past, our cruise stops in Nassau, Bahamas took us to the Straw Market and public beaches. While we saw Atlantis from a distance, it never occurred to us to take a trip over to Paradise Island to experience at least some of the resort. Instead, we bummed around town and had a less than exciting time.

This time was different.

My daughter had been begging me for months to visit Atlantis, and a surprise change in our cruise itinerary had us docking in Nassau for the day. There was only one excursion I would even consider: An Atlantis day pass for Aquaventure Water Park.

Because of our excitement, we tried to get off the boat as early as possible. In our case, it was 8:00 am. We weren't the only ones with Atlantis on our itinerary — the cruise terminal was a madhouse. Our two options to get to Atlantis were: Taxi and Water Taxi. Even with a taxi, it took us an hour from the time we got off the ship until we arrived at Atlantis.

Since this was our first visit to Atlantis, we found navigating the resort to be a little tricky. After some confusion, we picked up our tickets at the Discover Atlantis desk, which is located at the Coral Towers.

Update: Tickets can now be purchased at the Atlantis Adventures Tour Center, located outside Coral Towers, overlooking the Atlantis Marina. Current prices for an Atlantis day pass are  $161.00 for adults and $99 for children 4-12.

No worries though — once we had our wristbands, the day was officially on. We only had a few hours, but we wanted to make the most of them. Atlantis Aquaventure opens at 9:00 am, and the water slides open at 10:00 am. Closing time is 5:00 pm.

The grounds of Atlantis are expansive— just Aquaventure Water Park covers 141 acres!

atlantis aquaventure water park

The path to the water park took us through THE DIG, through a 100-foot tunnel, where we were met with sharks, stingrays, and large fish.

The Dig Atlantis Paradise Island

The theming is unreal.

Atlantis-4

Once outside, we discovered there are eleven pools, seven mega-water slides, and two river rides. Of course, my photos are limited because this is, after all, a water park 😉

Atlantis-6

My favorite water activity was The Current  — a lazy river with some unexpected twists and turns. My daughter loved Splashers , the Mayan-themed kid's water playground with rope bridges, cannons, fountains and water slides. She could have spent all day there.

We spent a good couple of hours exploring the water attractions before we made our way to Atlantis' private beach.

It was darn near perfect.

By the time we finished with the beach, our day was almost over, and we had to get back on the ship. As much as we tried, we couldn't do everything we wanted... not even a quarter of it.

Atlantis Aquaventure is a multi-day experience . To see and do it all, you need to stay on-site for three or four days. Believe me, once you experience Atlantis for a day, you will want to come back for a longer stay! Even with limited time, my family had a fun-filled day — hopefully next time we can check out the hotel, too 😉

** A few years after visiting Atlantis on a day pass, my daughter and I flew to Nassau for a mother-daughter weekend in the Caribbean. We stayed at Comfort Suites Paradise Island and had access to Atlantis Aquaventure for the duration of our trip— It was incredible! You can view our experience here .

A note about Atlantis Day Passes: Passes may be purchased by day visitors, but availability is limited – and may be closed – during periods of high resort occupancy. Most cruise lines sell excursions to Atlantis, and this is your best bet if only spending the day in Nassau. Admission to Atlantis Aquaventure is complimentary to all guests staying at Atlantis Resort.

Special thanks to Atlantis Resort for providing my family with complimentary Atlantis day passes. All opinions are my own.

What an awesome day you guys had! Atlantis looks like so much fun!

We thought about buying a day pass to Atlantis during our last cruise, but didn't do it because my friend was pregnant and wouldn't have been able to enjoy the slides. Next time, though, we will definitely go that route!

Thank you so much for this helpful information!!!

May 12, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Complimentary Passes? lol! No wonder such a glowing report! I walked though the place once last year just to see it. I'm sure they made sure you were there not during a rush time when there's no chairs together, long lines for water rides, no lockers left. Everything there is so expensive too ($9.00 slice of pizza) If your into "Disneyesque" overly landscaped crowded theme resorts, have at it. Save your money, there are plenty of really lovely public beaches to choose from surrounded by natural landscape and not half as annoying.

May 12, 2012 at 4:32 pm

Hey Robin-- I did receive complimentary passes, but that in no way influenced this post-- if I didn't like something, I would have said it! I didn't receive any special treatment and entered the park along with everyone else. We did find chairs, but found we didn't use them much and instead wandered around for the day doing the slides and beach. I supposed I am into “Disneyesque” landscape because I loved the whole resort. I've been to Nassau numerous times and this was by far the best time we had.

July 01, 2012 at 4:30 pm

Enjoyed your post. How did you manage to get complimentary passes? I will be going on a cruise in Nov and plan to go to Atlantis on Nov 11 (Sunday) However, I fear passes could sell out for the water park because of crowds. I am a little nervous of this fact but of course the pass would be for all day instead of just a few hours with the exclusion offers. Any thoughts or suggestions? How many hours total did you spend that day at Atlantis? Thanks, for the information 🙂

July 01, 2012 at 4:44 pm

Hi Maria -- I received media passes in exchange for writing about my experience. We spent a full afternoon there, I want to say from 9:00am until 3:00pm. As long as you get off the ship early, you shouldn't have a problem getting passes at Atlantis-- especially in November. Purchasing through the cruise line will guarantee you space and transportation though.

We will be in Nassau Monday, February 11th. A stop on our Canival cruise. We so badly want to visit Atlantis' Aquaventure, but tickets purchased through the cruise are 472.00 for our family of 4... We will have to leave the resort by 1:00 p.m. to make outback to the ship which will deport Nassau at 2:00 p.m. Any suggestions on how to get a discount on these tickets? Our girls, 9 and 6 would only have 3 hours on the water slides, and that's only if we don't make them break for lunch. Any/ all help you can offer would be much appreciated!

February 10, 2013 at 12:44 pm

Does anyone know the full day water park pass prices? i hear they also can change with the seasons. Just looking to get an idea of prices. Thanks

August 14, 2019 at 11:19 am

We are planning a cruise with our 1 1/2 yr old in October to Nassau. Atlantis is a top pick for an excursion for us, but we haven’t decided. Do you recommend going there with a 1 yr old or should we stick to something more simple like a beach? We will on be in Nassau for one day and I want to get my best experience. Most likely we will return for a longer stay another time.

August 15, 2019 at 7:56 am

That's really hard to answer. If money isn't an isssue it's a nice day even with a baby. They have a small private beach that's lovely and you can walk around the aquariums, grab something to eat. There's the kids play area as well. The setting is also more secure than a public beach, though you could get a day pass from another hotel in Nassau.

November 02, 2019 at 12:35 pm

Question about your Comfort Inn stay. Do they always honor those passes once room is reserved? I’m worried we may not get in water park during busy time with Comfort Inn passes

What you Need to Know about the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island

Staying at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island

Originally published:June 22nd, 2022

Some consider the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island the resort to end all resorts. Since opening in 1994, its iconic waterpark and marine themed hotel has made many a bucket list for a true dream vacation . After visiting, it’s easy to see why. It’s as if you truly did stumble upon Atlantis itself. Its facade appears slightly submerged, and in this city like resort, you can find literally anything you’d wish to see or do.

Lodging Type: ★★★★★ Luxury Resort Hotel

Tip: Before you arrive, download the Atlantis app to your phone which can be handy to assist you in navigating the enormous property.

Where is the Hotel Located?

The Bahamas is actually comprised of over 700 islands, total. However, not all of them are inhabited. In fact, many of them are not islands that travelers frequent.

Dolphin fountain at Atlantis resort Paradise Island

The Atlantis Resort is located on Paradise Island. Paradise Island has historically been a star studded celebrity home locale. Johnny Depp, Nicolas Cage, Mariah Carey, Sean “Diddy” Combs and many more names have or currently own properties on ritzy Paradise Island.

There are many airports you can fly into to arrive in the Bahamas. If you’re headed to Atlantis, it’s best to fly into the Lynden Pindling International Airport (formerly the Nassau International Airport). When you arrive in Nassau , there are many things to see and do there as well!

Tip: Check out my guide of things to do in Nassau here .

Resort Amenities & Entertainment on Paradise Island

When it comes to activities and amusement, the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island shines. All of the following is included with your stay at no extra charge:

Beautiful blue skies and palm trees surrounding warm rock formations bordering a lagoon at the Atlantis Resort Paradise Island

Aquaventure Water Park : Perhaps the star of the show, Atlantis boasts an incredibly fun water park that is free to all hotel Guests. Aquaventure is comprised of 8 incredibly fun themed water slides and river rides. There are 11 different pools to choose from, depending on your ambiance of choice.

large turquoise swimming pool with a volleyball net

This is perhaps the most anticipated feature of the resort. If you want to get a day pass to simply access Aquaventure, the price varies seasonally. On average, you can expect to pay about $190 per adult and $95 for kids.

Tip: Cruise ship goers often get day passes to Aquaventure, Paradise Island. If you want to dodge the crowds, the best time to make a splash is right when the park opens at 9:00am – 10:00am or the last two hours before closing 5:00pm- 7:00pm.

Atlantis Private Beach : Atlantis has its own private beach that stretches the length of the resort. Technically, you can go on the beach anytime you want – day or night. However , there is only a life guard on duty during its official ‘operating hours.’ Similar to the pools, the lifeguards seem to leave around 6:00pm or 7:00pm.

woman in an orange skirt with a tan hat on her lap sitting in a beach chair overlooking the ocean

Having hung out on this beach both during the spring and fall, the life guard not being on duty has never stopped crowds of eager swimmers from enjoying the warm Caribbean Sea.

There are vendors on the beach who offer sea-do excursions and various water sport activities at an extra charge. These companies are not affiliated with the Atlantis, but are allowed to operate on the private beach.

Tip: If you decide to engage in any water sport activities and venture beyond the buoys, life jackets are required.

Atlantis Theatre: Yes, the resort has a movie theater! Both time’s I’ve stayed at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island I’ve attended a showing. Both times I thoroughly enjoyed my cinema experience. There’s a full service concession stand in the theater with a variety of refreshments available.

brunette woman walking on bright blue carpet through the Atlantis Paradise island

The Atlantis theater showcases new releases and it’s a fun thing to do on a night that you want to just relax. In 2022, we saw The Batman . In 2023 we watched Scream VI , which was really fun because it was just a few weeks before Halloween.

Tip: You can charge all your concession refreshments to your room .

Hotels at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island

There are four different hotels to choose from within the resort:

This is the hotel for a top shelf, white glove experience. Featuring luxury suites, butler services and a private beach just for Cove Guests, this hotel is for those seeking the splendor of luxury. The Cove hotel also features the only adults only pool at the resort.

My visit was a comped stay. I am a Caesars Rewards Platinum card holder, and a 5 night stay is a rewards perk. Caesars Rewards stays are booked at the Coral Hotel. I found this tower to be centrally located and convenient.

a rock display fountain with dolphins emerging from it in the Coral Tower outside of the Bahamian Club

For instance, there is a Starbucks right below the main lobby, as well as a delicious ice cream shoppe. It also has a view the Marina harbor and just steps away from all the restaurants and shopping in the Marina village.

If, by chance, you are attending a convention at Atlantis, this is definitely the hotel you’ll want to stay in, since the convention halls are all in this hotel. The comedy club and movie theater are also located at The Coral, which is very convenient.

These rooms are made to have a more “residential” feel. In addition, you can book some pretty swanky penthouses with oceanfront balconies. The Reef Hotel is quite far from everything else in the resort, but it has direct beach access and shuttles area available.

The Royal Towers are in the center of it all. The ornate lobby is the epicenter of the entire hotel, garnished in giant pearls and seashell facades. It’s also closest to the designer shopping, casinos and luxe restaurants indoors.

The Harborside Resort

This area is great for: those who want to be away from it all, a bit of a quiet atmosphere, to be near the boat marina and to have accommodations with a kitchen, washer & dryer. There is also a kids pool in this part of the resort, but no direct beach access.

The service at the resort is, overall, very warm, friendly and welcoming. The check in process could have been a bit more through and efficient. There was a bit of a wait to check in and a huge crowd waiting to check in behind us. As a result, the employee at check in was rushing to check us in. Unfortunately, since it was our first visit and the Atlantis can be a bit overwhelming, we wished she had explained a few things to us that we found out on our own a few days in.

The nightly rate will vary seasonally and depend on which hotel tower you ultimately choose. The Atlantis on Paradise Island is by no means a budget hotel. But on my Instagram , I’ve shared a couple different ways you can get free stays or nights at the Atlantis.

Safety & Security

Paradise Island, overall, is a very safe place. It’s filled with resorts, luxury hotels and celebrity homes. The resort itself feels extremely safe in every way. All rooms are a key card entry and have a safe in the closet. There is also round the clock security on the grounds of the hotel.

the bridge connecting the Atlantis Resort and beach, at nightfall

What’s to Eat?

There are countless restaurant options at the resort ranging from celebrity chef fine dining to casual and well known chains. It’s widely known that the Bahamas is incredibly expensive and the food at the Atlantis resort is no exception. Some of the restaurants recommend making reservations whereas, others, like pizza or ice cream you can just stand in line.

Tip: If you’re on a budget you can buy water bottles and snacks from stores or restaurants in downtown Nassau and store them in your hotel refrigerator. This is also a great option if you want to try some local cuisine and store your leftovers.

The restaurants I’ve tried

Silan is a new addition to the Atlantis restaurant lineup and had just opened in 2023 shortly before I dined there. Its Mediterranean inspired cuisine served in front of a view of the resort’s salt lagoon. Apparently, “Silan” means date syrup in Persian.

Silan sign - entrance to Silan restaurant at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island

I dined there for lunch and found the menu to be thoughtful, the food tasty, the drinks even better and the service to be impeccable.

Silan isn’t cheap, but, again, nothing is on Paradise island. Or in the Bahamas for that matter [insert strained grimace here]. But, Silan isn’t terribly priced for resort dining and particularly when you factor in quantity and quality.

Spiced date and cucumber agave sparklers at Silan Restaurant on Atlantis Paradise Island

The halloumi cheese dip will set you back about $19.00. Whipped ricotta is $14.00 Entrees range from $25 – $80 or so. I definitely look forward to dining here again when I return to the Atlantis.

For a weekday lunch, the crowd while I was there was a mix of a handful of families, and the rest were upper middle aged couples to seniors. In the evening, it transports into more of a date spot or night life environment.

Pisces is a Bahamian food stand near Atlantis’s private beach. It closes around 5:00pm, but it’s a great place to grab a bite if you want to sit outside with a sunny, ocean view during your meal.

woman in an orange skirt with a tan hat on her lap sitting on the beach overlooking the ocean

Pisces serves up good ole’ comfort foods like coconut shrimp and fried snapper. You can also get Bahamian favorites like conch fritters and conch salad. You can choose from some unique house made sauces to pair with your favorite seafood – they have curry mayo, spiced caramel or hot ketchup. Not gonna lie, it’s pricey for a plate of fish and chips. But at the very least, it’s delicious.

Poseidon’s Table

This is the resort’s buffet. The atmosphere is nice and the tables are spaced out well. In terms of food, the selection is fairly varied and the quality is fine. It’s hard to be impressed with it when you’ve had some of the most incredible buffets in the world in Las Vegas.

Entrance to the Poseidon's table buffet at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island

Personally, I found the buffet to be a bit overpriced even by the Bahamas standards. However, the second time I visited the Atlantis, Poseidon’s Table was hosting a Bahamian themed night. The event was featuring all Bahamian specialties and some jamming’ entertainment. I couldn’t make it that night, but it would be worth going back for something like that.

Restaurants on my “must visit” list

Bimini Road Restaurant – upon my inquiry of: where can I find the best Bahamian food on the Atlantis Resort, a local recommended Bimini Road. It’s located in the bustling Marina Village. The food looks incredible, and I bet it is – because the place was packed on a Tuesday night in September. We didn’t feel like waiting, so decided to grab food elsewhere, but I definitely want to check it out next time. The place is happening with lively Caribbean music playing!

Tip: if you really want to dine at Bimini Road, make sure you make a reservation well in advance of your stay. Also, it’s a bit of a scene, so if you want a more low key environment, I’d dine elsewhere.

Fish by José Andrés – this is probably the top restaurant I want to visit upon my return to the Atlantis as I’m a fan of José Andrés work. Not to mention, it’s located in the stunning Cove hotel tower. The atmosphere at the Cove hotel is mysterious, alluring and overall has a very upscale feel.

The Mandara Spa is a full service spa on the Atlantis, Paradise Island located in the Royal Towers. Mandara Spa is a chain that can be found all over the world. It’s a luxury spa with top shelf prices, so if you’re looking to splurge , treat yourself! I did not have any spa services done during this visit, but might check it out on another visit.

Tip: You’ll pay top dollar for spa services at the resort. If you’re looking for convenience, that is your best option. Appointment slots fill up quickly, so make your reservations in advance online if you can. If you’re willing to venture out or hire a mobile masseuse, you can save this way . Find out more about the spa I visited and loved: here .

Know Before You Go

There is no need to exchange money before your trip if you have USD! USD is equivalent to the Bahamian dollar. For travelers from countries other than the US, just make sure you have either USD or the Bahamian dollar.

The Atlantis is an enormous resort with lots of relaxation and activities to offer, but don’t be afraid to venture out into Nassau or elsewhere on the island to explore further. You can find out more tips about that: here .

The Bahamas is a beautiful archipelago, with stunning skies and beaches. Whether you decide to go all out during your visit at Atlantis or not, just know that it is possible to enjoy this fabulous resort on a budget! Any questions? Leave them in the comments!

Fall, but make it tropical 🌴 I know, I know. Not exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Autumn. This year, I decided to set out to explore an atypical fall destination. I visited the 📍Bahamas archipelago located in the Caribbean for the first time last year. And while there are parts that are very commercialized and the place is crawling with North Americans (take that for whatever it means to you), I have to say I love coming back here. I’m always so excited to visit new destinations, but revisiting places we’ve been and enjoyed is gratifying in a different way, isn’t it? Anyway, September & October is definitely the “off” season. It’s actually considered “hurricane season” for the islands, which is definitely an intimidating time to plan your trip. Obviously the weather is one of the things we have no control over, but the end result was fewer crowds, lower costs, a couple mild, warm, intermittent showers. Do you like off season travel? MUSTS and NO’s when I visit Cartagena again… 🗓️ I would 100% visit during December - March, the dry season. The most important reason: the 🔥 heat in Cartagena rivals 🇺🇸southwestern summers. Even in February it’s HOT! You’ll want to walk around & be comfortable. 💃🏻 I would 100% take a salsa class, which I couldn’t get to last time. There is an epic one on a private rooftop in Getsemani! 🥘 I would take another cooking or beverage class at @skykitchen.cartagena because it’s that amazing. 🛥️ Definitely return to the Rosario Islands for another retreat to paradise 🧭 I’d make sure to take a day trip to Palenque - @sowonthego has an awesome post about this day trip! 🍽️ @misturarestaurantebar - I’d go back just to dine here again 🛏️ I’d stay in the walled city again because you can freely walk around at night with no problems & there’s lots of nightlife. 💚 if you want emeralds, definitely go to @casalaesmeraldajoyas - mother & son operation, very kind, helpful & top quality. 🚫I’d skip La Cevicheria, because, sadly, by all measurable objective facts it’s overrated. I’m certain that it was wonderful when Anthony Bourdain visited 15 years ago… but these days I’d constitute it as a bonafide tourist trap and I NEVER use that term lightly. 🚫 No visiting in the summer ⚠️ Cartagena is very safe if you are engaging in ‘regular’ run of the mill traveling activities… if you engage in, shall we say, risqué extracurricular pursuits - you could be opening up the doorway to negative outcomes. Cartagena is hot & ‘touristy’ - but the food is incredible, the culture is vibrant, the energy vibrates high & the people are just lovely. Have you been to Cartagena? CHÂTEAU DE GRUYÈRES 🏰 Even though this castle has no drawbridge… can you still get into it? (ba-dum-ching!) 😒☺️ For me, if there is a castle involved, count me in. I first stayed overnight in a castle in 2021 and if you recall, I said I wanted to ‘castle surf’ my way around the world. While that idea hasn’t quite left the laboratory… I still love seeing them all the same. This 13th century castle, turned museum in Gruyère is no exception. I mean I love castles. I love museums. This should be good, right?! It didn’t disappoint. Between the architecture, historical context and cultural information, this medieval castle sits atop a hilltop and provides stunning views to boot. Also, the staff is super warm and helpful. Have you ever seen a castle in person? Which one? Is seeing or staying in one on your bucketlist? PS - you can’t stay at Chateau de Gruyère but you can explore to your heart’s content! 🗃️Save for your Switzerland planning and don’t forget to follow @adventures.passport for more must visit destinations around the 🌏 _________________________________ #gruyere #gruyereswitzerland #gruyères #chateaudegruyeres #swisscastles #switzerlandvacations #switzerlandwonderland #europecastles #castles_oftheworld #gruyerecastle #castleruins #castlesofswitzerland

AN IMPROMPTU CHAT ⤵ A vivid past memory I have, is chatting with a coworker who moved to Los Angeles from a small town in the US for work opportunities. In conversation one day, she reveals to me that she had never seen a (specific ethnic group) person until she had moved to Los Angeles. For the record, she was saying positive things - but I was FLOORED all the very same. From a young age, I had exposure (and friendships) with people of all origins, ethnicities, religions and appearances. That was my normal, in part, from being from such an incredibly diverse place. The more we open ourselves up to the experiences of others, the more we see realities STARKLY differ. Although the internet’s obsession with “relatability” is understandable and genuinely needed in many instances, for a lot of people it’s nothing more complex than desiring to see a reflection of themself. What we really NEED is more awareness, empathy and understanding. Relatability seeks comfort, but seeking out life experiences truly different than our own is truly how we grow, connect … and hopefully make the world a better place together. Travel is a great way to do this, but one of the more positive aspects of the internet and social media is how much I learn on a daily basis about the lived experiences, struggles, joys, ways of life, philosophies and realities of others all over the world. Thank you for sharing this & I hope you never stop. If you’ve read this far, thanks for being here - we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow 💫 What do you think about this? Do you also find these things important? ✨ _____________________________ #travel #travelthoughts #travelersnotebooks #travelerdiaries #travelersjournal #musings #travelmusings

SWITZERLAND TIP ⤵🇨🇭 Go to Gruyères someday or time. I absolutely LOVE this idyllic village, not just because I’m a big fan of the cheese itself, but, it also gives you the storybook moment you’ve either always wanted or didn’t know you needed ✨ You may be starry eyed as you gaze upon the seemingly infinite green pastures, fanciful meals & views, colorful flowers and historic architecture. Standing in the center of town, hearing the never ending trickle of the fountain, you may concede, ‘if fairytale settings existed…this might just be one?’ Compete with a 13th century castle as a backdrop - no purchase necessary🏰 (unless, of course, you want to go inside) Have you ever been to Gruyères? Have you tried the cheese? 🧀 Well, either way, buckle up Buttercup, because I spent a few dreamy days here & we are about to dive into it together! 💫 🗃️Save this for your Switzerland planning & don’t forget to follow @adventures.passport for more must visit destinations around the 🌏 —————————————————- #switzerland #gruyères #gruyere #gruyeres #gruyereregion #gruyére #gruyereswitzerland #gruyerecheese #swisstravel #traveltips #travelidea #travelideas #fairytaletown #swisstourism #swissspots

SHOULD YOU VISIT CHUR? 🕰️ After spending three days there exploring at a very leisurely pace, I don’t feel like I left too much on the table. Old town Chur is on the smaller side. However, there’ll always be more to do because there’s lots of little shops, cafes, neighborhoods to peruse and hikes. Does Chur deserve a spot on your itinerary? Here are some things to consider: It’s a ‘Let’s Go’ if: 📖 you love historical towns ⛪️ you appreciate admiring architecture 🫕 you’re a foodie 🧭 you love exploring on foot ⌛️ slow paced atmosphere is preferred ☕️ you enjoy cafe culture & a view 🐾 you love VERY dog friendly places It may be a ‘Pass’ if: 💨 you like fast paced atmospheres 🥱 you get bored veryyy easily 🏛️ places with well known landmarks or attractions are preferred 🚭 you can’t be around potential smoking 🐾 you’re not okay with dogs being anywhere humans can go 🥳 you want a very ‘happening’ vibe 🚷 you are unable or don’t want to walk everywhere you need to go 💡You absolutely CAN visit Chur in one day and see the highlights well! You can also do a day trip to Liechtenstein from there. So, what say you? WELCOME TO CHUR - the oldest town in Switzerland ✨ Have you ever heard of Chur? (pronounced: “Core” and don’t worry, I was saying “ch-uhr” at first too) I had never heard of it myself, but after doing a little digging, it seemed like a good place to get off the Glacier Express. It’s a historic town with medieval architecture and nuances at every turn. The hotel I stayed in was originally built in 1638, with the oldest part of it dating back to 1438. Listen, I have never ever photoshopped people out of my photos, but I WILL patiently wait as long as I need to in order to get a pic without others in it (if it’s even possible). But, here that’s simply not necessary. The entire town felt like a deserted movie set - and I mean that in a good way. Chur also has the most bars per square foot in all of Switzerland. While that isn’t a particular draw for me, it certainly will be for someone 🥂 Have you ever been to or heard of Chur? This town surprised me in a few ways! —————————————————— #chur #churswitzerland #visitswitzerland #swisstravels #inlovewithswitzerland #travelideas #travelinspo #travelbloggerlife #medievalplaces #eurotravels

Woman watching the ocean Atlantis Bahamas

We recently spent a week in The Bahamas to celebrate our baby girl’s second birthday and it was nothing short of spectacular! The famous Atlantis Bahamas is the first place that came to my mind when we considered vacationing in The Bahamas. We are not resort people but this trip was all about relaxing and giving fun experiences for our baby girl and I knew that Atlantis Bahamas would be a perfect choice.

Atlantis Bahamas is a huge resort (even for resort standards) with several hotels to choose from, numerous restaurants to dine at, multiple activities to do while there and took a lot of planning. I did a lot of research to plan this trip and was not disappointed! Here is an honest review of our week long stay at Atlantis Bahamas and a comprehensive travel guide to help you decide which hotel/tower to stay at Atlantis Bahamas , where to eat in and around Atlantis Bahamas, activities for kids and adults at Atlantis and some useful tips and recommendations to make your stay eventful and stress free!

An honest review – ATLANTIS BAHAMAS

Atlantis is a world-class resort located on Paradise Island in Bahamas and is known for its famous Aquaventure waterpark, white sand beaches, turquoise waters, amazing restaurants, casino and more. It was built in 1998 (25 years ago) and cost an estimated $900 million dollars to build. Atlantis Bahamas has everything you can think of (and more) and is a city in itself. In fact, you do not need to venture off the island! I have included as much information as I could in this guide to help you choose the best hotel, save on food, activities and finally my review of Atlantis Bahamas and if it is worth staying.

Is Atlantis Bahamas worth staying?

The Royal Towers Atlantis Bahamas

THE COVE AT ATLANTIS

Royal Towers Atlantis Bahamas

If you ask me if ATLANTIS BAHAMAS is worth staying – my answer is absolutely, yes!! Atlantis Bahamas is worth staying if you are looking for a relaxing vacation with lots of activities for kids and adults. There is something to do for every age group at ATLANTIS BAHAMAS and I think it is perfect vacation spot whether you are looking for fun family time, a couples getaway or a group trip with friends. The aquapark, beaches, casino, shopping, golf course, fine dining, marine habitat and Marina Village make it an absolutely fun place to stay and we (especially our two year old) had the best time for her birthday!

I highly recommend staying at ATLANTIS BAHAMAS . I would advise you to set your expectations regarding the food, expenses and choose your hotel wisely. Be prepared to spend a bit more than expected as I mentioned above and you will have a blast!

Tips and recommendations for your stay at Atlantis Bahamas

The Cove pool area Atlantis Bahamas

  • Make sure you book your accommodation and activities well in advance as they are quite popular and can get sold out quickly.
  • The resort is quite large and can be overwhelming to get around for first timers. Download a map of Atlantis or the app to orient yourselves.
  • The food is EXPENSIVE! If you plan to dine three times a day or have kids who need snacks and are hungry often, I highly recommend a trip to the grocery store and liquor store to save some $$.
  • Make use of the free shuttles that run every 5-10 minutes between various hotels, the Marina Village and The Four Seasons. Taxis are also available at each hotel/tower if you would like to take a trip to Nassau Downtown or elsewhere.
  • Pack all the summer essentials – sunscreen, hat, tote bag, flip flops and sun dresses.
  • US dollars are accepted everywhere and the Bahamian dollar is the same value as USD. Carry change or exchange notes either at the airport. Atlantis Bahamas is a cash free resort and you cannot get cash or change at the resort. And you would need enough cash to tip the staff and for taxi fares.
  • The Bahamas in general and Atlantis are very expensive as they import most of the goods. Be prepared to spend top $$$ on everything.
  • There are many free activities to do at Atlantis Bahamas. Take advantage of all the fun and free things to do before indulging in other experiences.
  • If you are a hotel guest, you get a wristband for the duration of your stay that allows you access to the waterpark, pools and other facilities.
  • There are sundries available at each of the hotels to buy snacks, sunscreen and other essentials.
  • Your keycard not only gives you access to your room but can also be used at the casino and restaurants as a credit card. Keep it handy and you don’t have to carry your credit cards.

Getting to and around Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis is about 30 min drive away from the closest airport – Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau. You have an option to either take a taxi or shuttle to Atlantis. You can also take a ferry from Nassau Downtown to Paradise Island. After the long flight, I recommend a taxi and the fare usually ranges from $40 – $60 USD.

Getting around Atlantis Bahamas

Don’t worry about getting around the resort. The resort offers multiple shuttles between the different towers/hotels, to/from The Marina Village, Golf Course and The Four Seasons resort. The shuttles are convenient and fun and our whole family enjoyed riding in them!

Taxis are readily available if you would like to venture off of Paradise Island to Nassau Downtown or elsewhere. Make sure you have enough cash for the fare plus tip.

You could take a fun ferry ride from Paradise Island to Nassau Downtown as well. Boat tours are also available to other islands like Exumas and Blue Lagoon.

Which hotel to stay in Atlantis Bahamas?

The reef at atlantis.

Choosing the right hotel to stay at Atlantis Bahamas can get overwhelming but also the most important step to make your stay enjoyable. There are 5 different hotels to choose from with different amenities. The choice of the hotel is based on your preferences whether you are looking for a romantic couples’ only space or a family friendly one with a kitchenette. This section breaks down the different hotel options and amenities available and a review of the hotels at Atlantis Bahamas.

The Royal at Atlantis Bahamas

The Royal Towers Atlantis Bahamas

This is the flagship tower of Atlantis Bahamas that is featured in all the photos of Atlantis Bahamas. It is central to all the main attractions including the aquaventure park, casino, and has multiple restaurants like Nobu, Olives to name a few. The Royal as the name suggests makes you feel like royalty but it is also one of the oldest and quite dated. We noticed that there is no bell service at The Royal and it can get quite crowded and noisy.

The Cove at Atlantis Bahamas

Lobby at The Cove Atlantis Bahamas

The cove is the most luxurious of all the hotels at Atlantis Bahamas and offers chic, contemporary accommodations with ocean views, private balconies, and access to an exclusive pool. The hotel also has a large adults only pool and has a small casino. There are several restaurants including The Fish, Sea Glass and Fresca. The lobby and the views from The Cove are incredible and this is an ideal hotel for a romantic couples stay. This was also my favorite hotel at Atlantis and it is the most expensive of all.

The Reef at Atlantis Bahamas

Cove beach Atlantis Bahamas

This is where we stayed as it came with sweeping views of the ocean similar to The Cove but also a kitchenette. As we traveled with a toddler, we wanted a kitchenette for a quick early breakfast or snack before heading out and The Reef was perfect for that. I also liked that they have bell service and the elevators are a quick walk from the lobby unlike The Royal towers. The Reef has a couple of pools (including a kids pool) and a private beach shared with The Cove guests. There is a Starbucks which gets super busy in the morning. I also liked that there is no Casino at the Reef and is perfect for families.

The Coral at Atlantis Bahamas

The Coral is an updated mid-range hotel and has its own pool and a lazy river. It is quite close to The Marina Village and the multiple restaurants there. It is a great choice if you’d like to stay close to The Marina Village.

Harborside Resort at Atlantis Bahamas

Harborside resort Atlantis Bahamas

The Harborside comprises residential style villas with fully equipped kitchen, laundry and faces the Marina. These villas would be perfect for families with multiple kids and intending to cook or looking for spacious accommodation.

Activities to do in Atlantis Bahamas for kids and adults

Cove beach at Atlantis Bahamas

  • Beaches:  The beaches here are something else! Staying at Atlantis gives you access to stunning private as well as public beaches. The turquoise waters and white sand will make you feel right at paradise. The guests at The Reef and The Cove have exclusive access to Cove beach. I found it to be more peaceful and pleasant.

Splash pool Aquaventure Park Atlantis Bahamas

Aquaventure Waterpark:  This famous waterpark is one of the main reasons people visit Atlantis. It is one of the biggest and most exciting water parks in the world offering thrilling water slides, a not-so-lazy river, splash pools for kids and a replica of a Mayan temple. We had a lot of fun here exploring the waterpark and participating in the rides. Access to waterpark is free for resort guests.

  • Relax by the pools:  What better way to spend your holiday morning than reading a book by the pool and watching your baby girl play in the water? That was what we did every day. 🙂 There are multiple pools at each hotel and are accompanied by restaurants and shacks to order food.
  • Walk and Explore: I suggest taking the shuttle bus to each hotel and walk around to orient yourselves first. There is so much to see and do at the resort and the best way to explore is to walk.
  • Marine Habitat: Explore an underwater world with more than 50,000 sea creatures, including sharks, rays, and exotic fish. You will find many of these at The Dig and scattered all around the resort. Pay good attention to water bodies wherever you find them as you may find turtles or manta rays. 🙂 They also let you feed different dish during different times of the day.

The Dig Aquarium Atlantis Bahamas

The Dig: The Dig is the highlight of our trip to Atlantis Bahamas. It is a large marine exhibit at The Royal and runs through the Aquaventure Water Park. My little one had lots of fun watching the stingrays, fish, lobsters and other sea creatures swim. We went there every day to watch the fish.

  • Paradise Lagoon water sports: The paradise lagoon at The Royal tower offers many different water activities like SUP, kayaking, pedal boating. You need to pay for the rental though.
  • Snorkel/Scuba diving the ruins: One can also snorkel or scuba dive the ruins at Atlantis. We’ve seen some kids and adults snorkeling and scuba diving. I had considered snorkeling but after seeing how cloudy the water was, I decided to give it a pass. Please bear that in mind if you plan to take kids snorkeling.

day trip to atlantis

Marina Village: Marina Village is an outdoor shopping area with local stores, restaurants, ice cream shops and more. It is bustling with people and music at night and fun for every age group. We found that the restaurants here are less expensive and tastier than the ones at the resort. This was our spot every evening and you MUST try to conch salad at McKenzie’s Conch Shack and the seafood at Anthony’s.

  • Dolphin Cay: You can swim with dolphins in a natural lagoon and learn about these intelligent creatures. Make sure you reserve ahead of time.
  • Casino: Try your luck at gambling at one of the slot machines or gaming tables at the casino.
  • Golf: Enjoy a round of golf at the Ocean Club Golf Course.

Four Seasons Bahamas

Dune at The Ocean Club: Take advantage of the shuttle bus that goes to The Four Seasons to enjoy a brunch or lunch at  The Dune. Make sure you reserve way ahead for lunch or dinner. The property and the grounds are beautiful to walk around.

  • Spa time at Mandara: Enjoy a relaxing massage or facial at Mandara Spa. Make sure you schedule ahead of your arrival!
  • Shopping: If you are itching to spend more money, you are welcome to shop at the high end stores at The Royal or Marina Village. 😉
  • Cooking classes/fun activities for kids (without parents): Atlantis offers cooking classes, fun activities and arcades for kids. Parents can enjoy a romantic dinner while kids have fun at the play centers.
  • Nightlife: Experience the vibrant nightlife at Atlantis, with live music, DJs, and a range of bars and nightclubs.

Where to eat in and around Atlantis Bahamas?

Atlantis Bahamas offers over 20 restaurants and dining options in multiple price ranges and tastes. Some of the most popular dining options include Nobu, Fish by José Andrés, Olives and Café Martinique. There are multiple restaurants at Marina Village as well.

Fish by Jose Andres Atlantis Bahamas

A few things to note about dining at Atlantis Bahamas

  • If you are planning to indulge in fine dining, make sure you make the reservations well in advance (like at least a month)! I did not do that and all the fine dining restaurants were booked! Fortunately, some restaurants like Nobu allow walk-ins in the lounge and patio areas. Thanks to my husband, we were able to dine at Nobu (twice!) even without a reservation.
  • Try restaurants at The Marina Village for better food options.
  • Head to Fish Fry if you would like to eat where the locals eat!
  • One good thing about Atlantis Bahamas is that drinking water is free! Water canisters are provided and one can refill at the multiple stations throughout the resort.

Is food at Altantis expensive and worth the price?

  • If you wish to save some $$$ on food, get some groceries and liquor at a local store.
  • We found the food at the poolside restaurants and mid-range ones at Atlantis Bahamas to be mediocre at best. Avoid them and take your snacks with you. The food at fine restaurants like Nobu, Olives and Fish was delicious!!
  • Seafood entrees range between $40-$70 and breakfast fare was $20-40. 15% gratuity is added to the bill.

Atlantis Bahamas -A review of our favorite restaurants

What’s not to like about the famous Nobu chain of restaurants? We went there twice during our stay and the food did not disappoint. The service was fast as well. Our favorites were the miso black cod, wagyu, tuna with crispy rice and rock shrimp tempura. I loved the sake but the cocktails were meh! We absolutely loved the lava cake and green tea dessert! As I wrote above, if you cannot find reservations, go directly at 5pm and check for availability at the lounge or patio. It worked both times for us!

This was another hit and a favorite. The focaccia and olive combo that was complimentary was delicious! We loved the garlic spinach, the caprese and the seafood entrees.

Fish by José Andrés

We dined here for breakfast multiple times and it was so good! We loved the benedicts and my favorite was the Bahamian boiled fish. It was so simple yet delicious – a must try in The Bahamas!

Other mid-range restaurants at Altantis Bahamas

Fresca, Lagoon bar and grill, Murray’s Deli.

There is a Starbucks at The Reef for a quick coffee or breakfast.

Marina Village restaurants to try

If you visit Marina Village, you MUST try the conch salad (both traditional and tropical) at McKenzie’s Conch Shack. Anthony’s across from Marina Village is great for seafood. There is also a Dunkin’ Donuts right next to it.

Other restaurants in Marina Village that we found to be busy were Carmine’s, Cafe Martinique, Burger Shack, Marina Pizza and Ben and Jerry’s.

McKenzie's Conch Shack Atlantis Bahamas

LOCAL DELICACIES of The Bahamas that you must try!

Conch salad.

Conch is an edible sea creature that is unique to The Caribbean Islands and famous in The Bahamas, Turk and Caicos. It is loaded with vitamins and nutrients. The first time we had the conch salad was in Providenciales in Turks and Caicos and loved it so much. We were so glad to have found it again in The Bahamas. The conch salad at McKenzie’s Conch Shack in Marina Village was incredible and a must try. Even our toddler loved the salad.

Conch Salad at McKenzie's Conch Shack Atlantis Bahamas

Conch fritters

Conch fritters are another delicacy made with conch and a great option if you’d like to try conch but not the raw version.

Bahamian boiled fish

A local said that Bahamians eat stewed/boiled fish for breakfast and fried/grilled for lunch and dinner. We had the boiled Bahamian grouper with grits and it was so delicious. It looks simple but tastes heavenly!

Traditional Bahamian boiled fish

Restaurants at Fish Fry

This is an area with multiple restaurants frequented by locals and the food here is delicious and much less expensive. We had the conch fritters, fish fry (obivously!) and grilled fish at Oh! Andros and they were all yum. All the entrees were accompanied by peas and rice, plantains, cole slaw and other sides that were equally good.

Grilled fish at Oh! Andros Nassau

Local beer like Kalik and Sands are popular in The Bahamas and are worth a try.

Final thoughts and Review – Bahamas Atlantis

Atlantis Bahamas is a great hotel for visitors seeking a blend of adventure, relaxation, and luxury. With its world-class amenities, including the iconic waterpark, diverse dining options, and stunning beaches, Atlantis offers an experience that caters to all ages and interests. If you are looking for family friendly hotel, choose your stay at The Reef or Harborside . If you are looking for a romantic stay, I highly recommend The Cove . Atlantis Bahamas is not just a vacation; it’s an adventure into a world of wonders, making it a truly worthwhile stay.

Gorgeous photos! From your article the Atlantis Bahamas sounds like a lovely place to stay. As a foodie I love how you discussed the local delicacies. Thanks for sharing your experience!

' src=

Hi there. We also have a little one that just turned two. Can you share more about the babysitting or kids club options that they have? I noticed you went to dinner a few times. That sounds wonderful!!

' src=

Hi, thanks for reading and hope you enjoy your stay! Regarding your question, we didn’t take advantage of any of the babysitting services. The kids club I believe is only for kids aged 3 or above. We wanted to send her there but couldn’t. Our daughter loves going to restaurants so didn’t really look for any babysitting services. Although we didn’t use it, one of the guests we talked to mentioned that they had a good experience. Make sure you ask questions and also state your requirements beforehand. Little ones love it there. 🙂

Visit Atlantis Bahamas: Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

April 26, 2022.

Our family had an amazing Spring Break trip to Atlantis, Bahamas. It’s our second time visiting the beautiful Paradise Island (the first trip was pre-covid ) and I wanted to share some tips & tricks to help you with your future Atlantis, Bahamas vacation plans. I’m gonna start with a quick FAQ about travel requirements so that you can determine whether or not the destination is a good fit for your family, then we will get into the planning details. Also giving the tea on Airbnbs in Bahamas…

Current Bahamas Covid health + travel requirements.

day trip to atlantis

Do yo need the Covid vaccine to travel to the Bahamas?

No, as of April 2022 the vaccine is not required. However any adults and children over 12 will need to provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of their scheduled travel date. Children under 12 are allowed to submit results from a rapid antigen test. All tests have to be through a verified lab. Home test results are not accepted. We did our tests at our local Walgreens. Click here for the most current Bahamas travel requirements and restrictions.

You will also have to test prior to returning to the states but most of the resorts have on site testing that are accepted by the airlines.

day trip to atlantis

Do you need a Bahamas Travel Health Visa?

Yes, you do. As of April 2022 you will need a Bahamas travel health visa for each member of your family/trip party. The process is fairly simple to apply and you have to submit your negative Covid results as a part of the approval process (whether you are vaccinated or not). You won’t be allowed to enter the country/board your flight without and approved Visa.

The Bahamas travel health visa cost was $60 per person over age 12, so factored that into your budget. Click here to register and apply for your visa.

Do you have to wear masks while in the Bahamas?

Yes, yes you do when in public spaces (in the Airport and on flights as well). Removal was fine when in places like the beach/pool or while dining of course.

day trip to atlantis

Do you need a passport to visit the Bahamas?

Yes, all family member will need a passport to enter the Bahamas. Start early to give yourself enough lead time so that they are ordered and delivered prior to your trip. If you currently have a passport be sure that it doesn’t expire within 6 months of your scheduled trip or you wont be permitted to enter. Now, let’s get to the FUN stuff…

Where to stay in Atlantis, Bahamas?

Whether you choose hotel or Airbnbs in Bahamas depends on your family style or vacation preference. We booked our latest trip at the last minute, so the flight prices were crazy and the hotel prices even crazier. James is vegan and our kids are picky eaters so we didn’t think the all-inclusive route would be worth the price tag. Airbnbs in the Bahamas was the way to go for both of our trips, each rental was located on Paradise Island (where Atlantis is).

day trip to atlantis

Our Airbnbs in Bahamas were in a suite of villas that was an 7 min walk from the Atlantis resort. The location. has a restaurant located at the entrance, multiple pools and private beach access. We were also able to rent beach chairs/umbrella from local islanders for about $40 a day right outside of our Bahamas Airbnb.

When booking with AirBnb we try to stick to super hosts but if one isn’t available I’m okay with trusting 5 or more recent reviews (within last 6 months). If you have questions, ask. A good host is more than happy to answer any questions to help minimize confusion.

If you’re 100% prefer hotels over Airbnbs in Bahamas our top hotel choices are below. You can find deals/discounted rates when you use a service like Priceline or Tripadvisor.

The major benefit of going the hotel route is not having find alternate covid testing sites for the return trip home.

Things to do in Atlantis, Bahamas?

If you are staying directly at the Atlantis resort access to amenities are all inclusive. They offer a ton of family friendly activities both indoors and out. The have a marine habitat with over 50k animals and you can book to swim with dolphins/sting rays or even release baby turtles. Their Aquaventure Waterpark, Atlantis water park featuring 18 water slides for kids 48 inches or taller, “river rides” for preschool-aged children and older, and 20 swimming areas. The resort also has 4 private beaches, a game room, a movie theatre (perfect for rainy days) and so much more.

How to access the Atlantis Resort + Aquaventure Waterpark if you are staying in a private rental?

For those doing private rentals you have two options to access the Atlantis resort. You can get Atlantis day passes starting at $125 per child and $250 per adult. However we went a more budget friendly route for both of our trips.

The Comfort Inn Suites Paradise Island is located right next to the Atlantis resort and booking a stay with them grants access to the Atlantis property (water park, marine habitat and beaches). This is a great hotel choice if you’re not a resort snob btw. Booking a 3 night stay, will give you 4 days of access to the Atlantis resort (same access that the Atlantis day passes would). Let’s do the math, shall we?

day trip to atlantis

Four Atlantis day passes directly from the resort will cost about $2850 for 4 days of access. A three night stay in 2 bedroom suite at the Comfort Inn Paradise Island is roughly $1120 for those same four days of access. The fact that the Comfort Inn offers free breakfast and free covid testing for your return trip only sweetens the deal. So booking the Comfort Inn for Atlantis Day passes is absolutely the budget friendly win here. You do have to fully check into the hotel to get access to the Atlantis day passes. I did take a peak at the room to see how clean they were but we didn’t actually stay/sleep there.

Visiting Aquaventure Waterpark

The Atlantis property is huge so it’s helpful to grab a map. The Aquaventerure water park is on the furthest end of the property. There is a separate check-in process for Aquaventure alone, there they give you wrist bands and towel access so you don’t need to lug those around. They have lockers for rent to secure your phones and/or cameras too.

PRO TIP: Go to the water park early morning or late afternoon to secure chairs and avoid crowds. If you do go mid day, slide the pool attendants a good tip and they will secure a batch of chairs for you and the family. If you really want to splurge y ou can reserve private Cabanas in advance.

day trip to atlantis

Of course visiting the beach (we did 3 beach days and 2 water park days). Our Airbnb provided a few sand toys but you can also buy them from one of the local shops on Paradise Island or bring them with you. If you have older children or are into water sports the island locals offered everything from jet skiing to parasailing to catamaran rides right on the beach behind where our Airbnb was located.

With the exception of a few restaurants we didn’t explore much beyond Paradise Island, so let’s talk dining options.

Where to eat in Atlantis, Bahamas?

Go to the grocery story first. You’ll thank me later. In a family full of picky eaters a grocery store run was imperative. We stopped before heading to our rental to grab breakfast foods, nonperishable snacks and the ever beloved PB &J. Our rental had a grill so we also grabbed hamburgers and hotdogs for a simple dinner (which came in handy the one night it rained cats & dogs). James is vegan (insert eye roll) so we bought a bunch of his favorite snacks in advance and packed them in a carry on suitcase. A guy has gotta have his seaweed right?

Our plan was to do breakfast at the rental (or Comfort Inn). Pack sandwiches for lunch at the beach or pool and then go out for dinner to help keep the food costs down. We stuck to this for the most part although we did end up ordering poolside lunch at the waterpark two days. All the walking and playing in the sun made the kids extra hungry.

day trip to atlantis

If you aren’t able to taxi to the store for any reason they do have grocery delivery services on Paradise Island too. Expect for the groceries to be more expensive than they are here in the states. I haven’t seen prices like that since we lived in California. Even still, it was cheaper than doing a restaurant 3 meals a day for a family of five.

Family Friendly Restaurant Options In Atlantis, Bahamas

The Atlantis resort and surrounding properties have tons of restaurants to choose from. Quite a few of them take reservations and fill up pretty quickly so I would make dinner reservations in advance.

Special Family Dinner:

Chopstix or Cafe Martinique (both of these are located on Atlantis)

Casual Dinner Options:

Carmines, Frankies Gone Bananas, Murrays Deli and Lagoon Bar & Grill (lunch only). As well as Crusoe’s Restaurant (located at Comfort Inn) and Violas (located at the Sunrise Beach Resort); all are walking distance from the Atlantis property.

day trip to atlantis

Hi Chantae! Thanks so much and sorry that wasn’t clear. Confirming that we stayed at the Bahamas Airbnb the entire trip. We did have to fully check in to the Comfort Inn but only used them for the Atlantis day passes, free breakfast and covid testing to return home.

Nice Post!!

It’s a wonderful post. It’s very conducive for us. Types of posts have been searching by me. An article about post had been red by me some days ago. But article is better than post
