LONG BEACH — Carnival Cruise Line has christened its newest ship, Carnival Firenze, with a star-studded ceremony in California.

Taking place at the ship’s new home, the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, the ceremony celebrated all things Italian with the help of the ship’s godfather, Hollywood actor Jonathan Bennet, and Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy. Festivities also included a performance of Puccini’s ‘Nessun Dorma’ by Carnival’s Playlist Productions cast, and Italian blessing by Father Charbel Grbavac of the Mary Star of the Sea Catholic church in nearby San Pedro, and a showstopping performance by Leslie Kritzer, Bennett’s co-star from the recent Broadway revival of ‘Spamalot.’

Carnival Firenze is officially named in Long Beach

As a ‘Carnival Fun Italian Style’ ship, the 5,000-guest Carnival Firenze is sailing year-round from the Port of Long Beach, joining two Carnival ships currently sailing year-round: the 5,100-passenger Carnival Panorama and the nearly 4,000-passenger Carnival Radiance. Launching just ahead of the busy summer travel season, Carnival Firenze is part of a significant expansion that added five ships to the Carnival fleet in the past 18 months. By next year, Carnival will embark more than 750,000 guests from Long Beach on more than 200 sailings, an increase of 100,000 more guests compared to 2019.

“We carry more guests than any other cruise line from California, and now this ship is giving us the opportunity to offer more fun to more people sailing from Long Beach,” said Duffy. “The receipt combining this ship’s beautiful Italian theme with the familiarity of our friendly team’s hospitality is, in a word, perfecto!”

Like sister Carnival Venezia, Carnival Firenze features new concepts and experiences that put an Italian twist on Carnival staples. It’s also the first ship in the Carnival fleet to harness artificial intelligence for optimal, energy-saving routes on each sailing. The ship’s captain and officers will be the first to utilize AI to Carnival’s voyage efficiency system, ahead of a fleet-wide rollout to begin later this year. Carnival Firenze is also the latest Carnival vessel to use shore power, joining Carnival Panorama and Carnival Radiance in connecting to the electric grid while docked in Long Beach instead of running its engines.

Built in 2020 and fresh off a 49-day dry dock in Cadiz, Spain during which ‘Carnival Fun Italian Style’ features were integrated, Carnival Firenze boasts notable additions like specialty restaurant Il Viaggio (‘The Voyage’), and a top-deck ‘street party’ called Festa Italiana. The ship will sail a variety of itinerary lengths, with three- to seven-day Baja Mexico and Mexican Riviera cruises open for sale now through spring 2026.

Off-Site Parking Information: Carnival Miracle | Carnival Panorama Please note:  Due to limited capacity at the cruise terminal garage , parking will not be available for guests sailing on the Carnival Miracle and Carnival Panorama.

Off-site parking information will be communicated to the guest in the 'Know Before You Go' email. We are encouraging guests to consider making alternate transportation arrangements that include ride sharing/taxi services or being dropped off/picked up by a family member or friend. If driving is the best option, we have secured parking nearby ,  (approximately 10 minutes from the cruise terminal). $23.00 USD per day

• 5-Story, 1450 space parking garage.
• Full payment due upon exiting the parking garage.
• Handicap Parking available with proof of valid permit.
• Accepted forms of payment: U.S Dollars, major credit cards and debit cards.
• No advance reservations required.
• The garage height limit is 7 feet.
• Oversized vehicles (those utilizing more than one parking space) cannot park in the cruise terminal garage and guests must make alternate/offsite parking arrangements. 

Off-Site Parking Information: Carnival Miracle | Carnival Panorama Due to limited capacity at the cruise terminal garage, parking will not be available for guests sailing on the Carnival Miracle and Carnival Panorama. Parking information will be communicated to the guest in the 'Know Before You Go' email. 

• We are encouraging guests to consider making alternate transportation arrangements that include ride sharing/taxi services or being dropped off/picked up by a family member or friend.
• Please proceed directly to the cruise terminal to drop off your luggage and travelling companions.
•  At the cruise terminal, you will be provided with directions and a card to identify you as a Carnival guest for parking area entry, which will be in a designated section of the parking facility.
• Parking will cost US$20, per day, (including embarkation and debarkation day), and only card payments will be accepted upon entry (cash payment is not an option).
• Complimentary shuttle service will be available to take you to the terminal on embarkation day and back to the parking facility when you return to Long Beach at the end of your cruise. Accommodations will be in place for our guests with mobility limitation.
• The last shuttle will run 30 minutes prior to the final boarding time printed on your boarding pass.
• Signage will be on site to direct guests to the designated parking area.
• Oversized vehicles (those utilizing more than one parking space) cannot park in the cruise terminal garage or at the offsite location. Guests must make alternate/offsite parking arrangements.

Carnival Firenze Arrives in Long Beach Ahead of Inaugural Cruise

Carnival Cruise Line’s new Carnival Firenze has arrived in California ahead of its inaugural cruise. After a month-long repositioning voyage that started in Spain, the 2021-built vessel docked in Long Beach for the first time on April 23, 2024.

Sailing around South America, the Carnival Firenze also made technical stops in the Canary Islands, Argentina, and Chile before arriving in California. The ship is fresh off its conversion from Costa to Carnival at Navantia (pictured).

The Vista-Class ship is now scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage from the port on April 25, 2024. On that day, the Carnival Firenze kicks off a program of three- to seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera, California and Baja Mexico.

Ports of call include Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta, in addition to Catalina Island.

For its maiden voyage, the Firenze is scheduled to offer a seven-night cruise to the Mexican Riviera. The itinerary features three full days at sea, as well as visits to Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas.

Previously operated by Costa Cruises, the Carnival Firenze joins Carnival Cruise Line’s new Carnival Fun Italian Style concep.

The product combines the company’s traditional venues, service, and experiences with an Italian vibe and atmosphere.

With a design inspired by the Italian city of Florence, the 4,232-guest ship offers themed public areas and staterooms. One of the main dining rooms is named after Michelangelo, the Renaissance sculptor and painter that was born in the city.

The Carnival Firenze also offers signature venues of the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, including an Italian-themed version of Guy’s Burger Joint, a European-themed Limelight Lounge and a complete Hero’s Tribute Bar.

Also unique to the vessel and its sister ship Carnival Venezia is a customized livery, which combines Costa’s funnel with Carnival’s new hull design. As a nod to the ship’s roots, however, the red stripe on the hull was painted yellow.

Embarkation and Departure

Gu ests must select their  Arrival Appointment  and complete their Online Check-in process no later than midnight (eastern time) prior to their sailing date.  

Guests should arrive promptly within their Arrival Appointment to reduce wait time in line. 

At check-in, guests must present their boarding pass, picture ID and citizenship documents (including any necessary visas).  Due to security protocol, last minute bookings made within 24 hours of sailing will require guests to undergo a secondary screening. 

Guests who are scheduled to arrive at the terminal before 1:30pm, usually check their bags with a porter so they can be free to enjoy lunch on Lido Deck before access to their stateroom is granted.

Checked baggage service is only available until 2 hours before the ship's published departure time. Guests arriving after this time will be responsible for taking their bags on board. 

Lunch is served on Lido Deck from boarding until the commencement of the safety briefing.

All guests must be on board by the Final Boarding time printed on the boarding pass or they will not be permitted to sail.
