How to dress up for Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour in Chester

Dressing appropriately for a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour in Chester is essential to ensure your comfort and enjoyment throughout the day. Here are some tips on how to dress for this type of excursion:

Comfortable Footwear

Chester’s streets can be uneven, and you’ll likely be doing some walking as you hop on and off the bus to explore attractions.

Opt for comfortable walking shoes or sneakers with good arch support. Avoid high heels or uncomfortable sandals that may leave you with sore feet.

Weather-Appropriate Clothing

Chester’s weather can vary, so it’s crucial to check the forecast before your tour. Dress in layers if the weather is unpredictable.

Bring a lightweight jacket or sweater, even in summer, as it can get cooler on the open-top bus. In colder months, consider a heavier coat.

Sun Protection

If you’re taking the open-top bus on a sunny day, be sure to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. This is especially important if you plan to sit on the top deck, as you’ll be exposed to direct sunlight.

Bring a compact, portable umbrella and a waterproof jacket or poncho in case of rain. While some buses have a covered top deck, you may still be exposed to rain and wind.

Comfortable Clothing

Wear clothing that allows you to move freely and comfortably. Loose-fitting clothing, like a casual dress or comfortable pants, is a good choice. Avoid tight or restrictive clothing.

Backpack or Bag

A small backpack or crossbody bag is handy for carrying essentials like your camera, water bottle, snacks, and any items you purchase during your tour. Ensure it’s secure and won’t swing around as the bus moves.

Camera and Smartphone

Don’t forget your camera or smartphone to capture the beautiful sights along the way. Make sure you have enough storage space for photos and a portable charger if needed.

Identification and Tickets

Keep your identification and tour tickets in a safe and easily accessible place, like a zippered pocket or a secure section of your bag.

Respect Local Customs

Chester is a relatively conservative city, so it’s a good idea to dress modestly. Avoid overly revealing clothing or offensive slogans on t-shirts.

Consider the Season

The time of year will influence your clothing choices. In spring and summer, light and breathable fabrics are suitable, while fall and winter may require warmer attire.

Best time for Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Chester Tour

The best time for a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour in Chester depends on your preferences and the experience you seek.

Spring (March to May) offers milder weather and blooming gardens, with fewer crowds than summer.

Summer (June to August) brings pleasant weather but more tourists, so consider morning or evening tours. Early autumn (September) boasts pleasant weather and colorful foliage.

Winter (December to February) offers a charming holiday atmosphere, despite the chill. Weekdays are usually less crowded than weekends. Check the weather forecast for an enjoyable experience.

Opt for early tours to beat the crowds or evening tours for a unique perspective on the city. Chester’s Hop-On Hop-Off tours offer a delightful experience year-round.

  • paullY868WZ 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Give this hop on hop off experience a miss...very poor How extremely disappointing. Old fashioned bus with loud engine noise made it impossible to hear the commentary downstairs. The CD with the commentary kept skipping and needed to be replaced several times...very frustrating. On a positive note the bus driver was very helpful with passengers. Was really looking forward to finding out about the history, culture and architecture of Manchester....it just didn't live up to expectations. Would really like a refund. • C4525HYpauls 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles They don't turn up on time. Get a Tram pass instead. They seemed celebrating with big fanfare their new timetable, which looks like someone wasted their time dedicating some passion to it. Sadly they can't live up to it! Driver was 40min late. The contact email is a black hole and the phone number goes to an answering machine. The bus is tatty and worn. The driver eventually dragged his arse down the street with coffee in hand at 11:10am when the bus was due to leave at 10:30. Obviously there was no apology. He then spent the time rallying the bus through the streets to make up for lost time and he was pretty relaxed about running red lights. The tour is ok, but it misses a lot out. Simple things like the Etihad stadium for instance! You will spend much of the time in traffic starting and stopping between traffic lights and flying through areas like the Media centre. I would recommend visitors to get a pass for the trams. I would recommend the company go to Edinburgh to see how tours should be operated. Read more Written 2 October 2023

  • t0ddy179 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not a great experience Did the 2.00 p..m. tour today in temperature of high twenties. We sat on the upper back seat to get a good view but soon realised that the foam inside the seats was soaking wet and seeping through the seams and damaged areas onto the back of our jeans. Because it was a hot day and the vinyl seat covers also hot, we did not notice this at first. When we did notice, we had to move seats and advised another passenger who got on during the tour not to sit there. At the end of the tour we pointed this out the driver who had a quick look and said there was nothing wrong with the seats. He wasn't the one who ended up with wet jeans though!! Apart from this, the tour was ok but not one which I would repeat because of our adverse experience. Read more Written 14 June 2023

We did the main gallery, JR library, the science museum( v good, especially if you have little kids), media city( bit soul less?), comedy club, pub quiz etc We enjoyed the Manchester police museum - good for an hour. Flight Club was great fun! Ticked off the list! (Wish we had done the gin distillery tour and had experienced a match) I couldn't get my bearings at all in the place but that was probably just me! I was a little bit sceptical about it because there are a number of major attractions that it doesn't go near, let alone stop at. However, starting from outside the art gallery, we were pleasantly surprised by what we could see during the 75 minute journey. There are so many fine old buildings to admire in the city and one or two new ones. Obviously better to be seen from the upper deck, as most of the best architecture is at the top of the buildings. There is on board commentary in English. You can get it in other languages via an app. The female commentator is much clearer than the male. Tickets are good value as they are valid for 2 days and can be booked online or you can buy them on the bus. The biggest problem with the hop on / hop off service, is that it is not frequent enough to be truly effective. At present, there are only three buses per day. Still we had an enjoyable day. New sightseeing bus route will allow visitors to take in stunning views of the Peak District

A new open-top bus tour is being launched in the Peak District, allowing visitors to take in some of the area’s stunning destinations.

Bus operator Stagecoach has announced the new route, which is set to launch from the 1st July 2023.

The hop on, hop off bus service will take passengers on a loop around the White Peak with stops in prime locations including Chatsworth, Bakewell and Hassop station for visitors to the Monsal Trail.

People will be able to take in the picturesque views of the national park’s green hills, gritstone edges and heather-coated moorlands on a loop through several Peak District hotspots.

From Chesterfield, visitors will be able to catch the 170 bus service from the town, and hop onto the the Peak Sightseer at Baslow Nether End.

A Peak Sightseer bus will also depart from from Chesterfield Train Station at 09:10 each day, stopping at Cavendish Street and New Beetwell Street, with the last bus back to Chesterfield leaving Chatsworth House at 18:19.

Download the full Peak Sightseer timetable here.

Matt Kitchin, Managing Director for Stagecoach Yorkshire said: “With some of the most dramatic scenery in the UK, the Peak District is an ideal location for an open top bus experience.”

“The new service allows customers to leave their cars at home, reducing pressure on the local environment while providing a fun, accessible and affordable day out in the countryside”.

The service is part-funded by Derbyshire County Council with government-backed BSIP funding following high demand from the public for better bus connections through the Peak District.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Charlotte Cupit said: “What better way to see some of Derbyshire’s wonderful scenery and most popular tourist destinations could there be than an open top bus?

“This is going to be a brilliant service to get people out and about without needing to use their car or worry about car parking and we are delighted to be working in partnership with Stagecoach on this innovative project.

“The funding we have had from the Government is giving us the opportunity to support new services like these – please give it a try and visit some of our fantastic Peak District attractions this summer.”

Roads Minister, Richard Holden said: “People up and down the country deserve a modern, reliable, and affordable public transport system. That is why we have provided Derbyshire County Council with £47 million to boost its bus services.

“Supporting Stagecoach in launching a new open top bus tour is great for local residents and tourists, who will now enjoy an even better way to take in some of the most breath-taking views the Peak District has to offer.”

Tickets are available to buy on the bus with an adult day ticket costing just £6.

Group tickets are also available for £15 with a £5 discount on offer to Chatsworth visitors with a ticket to the house.
