Michael Schenker Group Announce U.S. Leg of 50th Anniversary Tour

The Michael Schenker Group have given us a half century of heavy music and this fall fans across the U.S. will get a chance to dig into his catalog when Schenker takes his self-titled band on tour.

The trek gets underway Sept. 27 at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California and will keep the group out on the road through Nov. 6 at the Tulsa Theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For a majority of the run, Eric Martin and Images of Eden will provide support. Damon Johnson and the Get Ready will replace Martin for two dates in late October, and then W.A.S.P. and Armored Saint will join MSG for a handful of November shows. See the full itinerary below.

For Schenker, not only is it his 50th anniversary, but MSG will also be putting out a new album, Universal , scheduled for a May 27 street date through Atomic Fire Records.

As for the tour, you can look for Schenker's current lineup of MSG to include vocalist Ronnie Romero, drummer Bodo Schopf, keyboardist and guitarist Steve Mann and bassist Barend Courbois.

Now his latest MSG album is about to be unleashed, scheduled for release on Atomic Fire Records on May 27 under the programmatic moniker of "Universal" . His latest offering will feature all the strengths of this exceptional musician: first-rate songs with anthemic melodies, catchy guitar riffs and inspiring solos. As we have come to expect from him, Schenker has once again enlisted a number of prestigious fellow musicians for the recording of his new studio production, among them, as main vocalist Ronnie Romero ( RAINBOW , VANDENBERG ),who will also be MSG 's frontman on their upcoming tour, Michael Kiske ( HELLOWEEN ) and Ralf Scheepers ( PRIMAL FEAR ),keyboard player Steve Mann ( LIONHEART ),drummers Simon Phillips ( TOTO , THE WHO ), Brian Tichy ( WHITESNAKE , FOREIGNER ), Bobby Rondinelli ( RAINBOW ) and Bodo Schopf ( ELOY ),as well as legendary bassists Bob Daisley ( BLACK SABBATH ), Barry Sparks ( YNGWIE MALMSTEEN , DOKKEN ) and Barend Courbois ( BLIND GUARDIAN , ZAKK WYLDE ),with Tony Carey as a very special guest.

Like its predecessor "Immortal" (2021) and the MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST albums "Resurrection" (2018) and "Revelation" (2019), "Universal" was produced by Michael Schenker and Michael Voss ( LESSMANN/VOSS , MAD MAX ) at Voss 's Kidroom Studio , which has become something of a creative home away from home for Schenker .

" Michael Voss is happy to wait until I have worked out an idea and takes the time to really get to know the song, simultaneously developing ideas for the vocals," Schenker describes the fruitful collaboration which has one cog intermesh with the other. "Then we work out the drums, bass and some keyboard parts together. He always has plenty of great ideas up his sleeve."

Compositional highlights abound on "Universal" , from the haunting opener "Emergency" and the subsequent "Under Attack" with its casually driving groove to "The Universe" , featuring an atmospheric duet by Ronnie Romero and Gary Barden , "Wrecking Ball" , performed as brilliantly as ever by Ralf Scheepers , and "London Calling" with its homage to the British capital's musical spirit.

The rock anthem "A King Has Gone" and its intro "Calling Baal" both have a special significance: The track, sung by HELLOWEEN frontman Michael Kiske , is a tribute to the immortal Ronnie James Dio , in particular to his performance on the 1976 hard rock classic "Rainbow Rising" . For this reason, Schenker has brought together an original RAINBOW rhythm section consisting of Bobby Rondinelli and Bob Daisley , additionally enlisting keyboardist Tony Carey , who also played on "Rainbow Rising" , for a terrific Moog synth intro — a direct reference to the iconic intro of the 1976 album opener "Tarot Woman" . The impressive result "Calling Baal" / "A King Has Gone" is already considered to be one of the most important and successful songs in Schenker 's career to date, both musically and lyrically.

In line with all these highlights, the spectacular album cover designed by Zsofia Dankova ( POWERWOLF , among others) features Schenker in a futuristic spaceship, floating high up in orbit. The artwork is based on the guitarist's own visions.

"I had the original idea for the album cover a few years ago, but only now does it seem to fit perfectly," he says. "So I sent some older sketches to my label Atomic Fire Records , and based on this the final artwork and album title were created."

The legendary ex- Scorpions and ex-UFO guitarist Michael Schenker announced 2022 North American tour dates that will happen from September to November. Eric Martin , Images Of Eden, Damon Johnson & The Get Ready, W.A.S.P and Armored Saint will be the opening act on several dates.

Schenker’s current touring bandmates are Ronnie Romero (Vocals – Was Rainbow’s vocalist on their last tour), Bodo Schopf (Drums), Steve Mann (Keyboards and guitar) and Barend Courbois (Bass).

The new Michael Schenker Group album “Universal” will be released on May 27th via Atomic Fire Records.

Hard rock guitar fans know that The Michael Schenker Group is the best guitar music on the music scene. Sure, the band has had problems and members have come and gone, but Michael Schenker has managed to keep the heart of the group together for a couple of decades.

I saw the band live at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California, in February, 2014. That's a great venue with great acoustics and this band's non-stop, irreplaceable guitar and vocal talent shined even brighter than the house lights. The Michael Schenker Group played to the sold out crowd, starting with “Attack of the Mad Axeman” and it was guitar heaven for a full two hours until their last song, "Into the Arena Armed and Ready".

Each and every minute was an epic performance all by itself. It wasn't just me who had a good time. Everywhere I looked, the fans were going crazy. The band really knew how to keep the fans going too, shouting out and pointing at us and really keeping the energy high and the crowd going. It was an awesome show!

MSG to perform in the UK & Ireland w/ Night Demon in late 2023 as part of Michael Schenker’s ongoing 50th anniversary “Universal” World Tour

As wide-spanning as the range of musicians contributing to the record,  MSG ‘s 2022 success studio album “ Universal ” (released on  May 27, 2022  via  Atomic Fire ) has paved the way for the band and  Michael Schenker ‘s 50th anniversary world tour to many stages and areas around the globe: Starting with a headlining run across mainland Europe to EU/UK summer festivals, an extensive North American tour as well as Japanese shows, the quintet led by guitar maestro  Schenker  continues to amaze fans worldwide. Now the time has come for  MSG  to properly re-visit the shores of the United Kingdom and Ireland for the first time after a pandemic-related break: Taking place from  November 23  until  December 2 , the run will see the band perform a set list full of hits out of  Michael Schenker ‘s illustrous career in 8 cities. But that’s not all: Not really “ Outsider[s] ” (as the title of their new record, which was unleashed on  March 17 of this year , may let one think) but US based, Metal Hammer (DE)  awarded (“Up & Coming” in 2017) squad  NIGHT DEMON , who have consistently been discussed since the release of their self-titled 2012 debut EP and secured a prominent spot in the scene, have been confirmed as very special guests to  MSG  for all dates (incl. both festival appearances of the trek).
