Swedish metal band Katatonia, not to be confused with Welsh pop/rock outfit, Catatonia with a C, have their die-hard fans in the house this evening, ready to go crazy, ready to start circle pits here and there all over the room. “Ghost of the Sun” is their opening number seeing the fastest and loudest guitars you’ve ever heard. They employ techniques such as pinch harmonics; sweep picking, and dive bombs, and the crowd this evening, a horde of longhaired metal lovers all dressed in black. As soon as the drop occurs in their opening number, it is as though a grenade has been thrown right into the centre of the mosh pit as people are throwing themselves relentlessly into one another. One of the things that I will hand this Swedish gothic metal band is that every song has a hook. There is always something memorable from each song that you just might find yourself singing in the shower the next day. There is such adoration from the audience as they sing just about every chorus with their fist in the air, punching at every syllable. There are moments of their set that are very loud, with machine-gun blasting double kick drum moments, which are countered every time with a melodic chorus. A successful gig for these Scandinavian rockers.

As always an incredible performance from Katatonia. This is the forth time I have seen them and I have never been disappointed. Whether they play an indoor venue or a festival they sound impeccable. Whoever their sound engineer is KEEP HIM/HER. Really balanced and showcases not only the amazing vocals but the musicality of the band too!
Although I was not as big a fan of the newest album I was pleasantly surprised with the delivery of this new material - might have converted me to loving it. However, there was still enough of a range of songs from their entire back catalogue to keep any fan happy.
Anyone who remotely likes Katatonia should see them live. Absolutely phenomenal.
Love them!! First time seeing them live for Night is the New Day 10th anniversary Tour and love everything about them! They played the whole album. Was even surprise that the guitarist was singing for second vocalist in Departure song.
They also played one song from their other albums:
Falls of Heart: Falls of Heart
Dead End kings: Lethean
Great Cold Distance: July
And also one cover song from Judas Priest
Blakkheim and Jonas keep the spirit of Katatonia-esque doom alive in their new -- and, in my opinion, improved -- approach to incorporating progressive metal elements, while the new guitarist and drummer add an energy-packed punch to the live experience. They have greatly improved during the 2010s era.
Absolutely brilliant, been a fan of Katatonia for more than a decade now, first time seeing them perform live and I was blown away! I also did like Misery loves co!
First time being in Kraken as well, friendly staff and good beer, I will most likely return back for some other bands.
The venue (Club Red, Mesa, AZ) was very organized, and the acoustics were good. Katatonia were great on stage. They only played songs with clean vocals, so nothing from Brave Murder Day, but everything else was awesome. I would definitely see them again.
The show rocked, the house was full, the bands were amazing! The place was shaking, heads were banging, and the acoustics in the Summit were absolutely incredible. All and all it was a great show.
It was assome, I didn't know any of the bands but I had a really good time they were great musicians. my brother and I where in the front row and we really liked the venue and the setup
Amazing show! Performance was flawless, such a great album to be supporting. Vocals were nothing less than immaculate. A must to catch a show during this leg of the tour!

And they won't be alone in this journey, putting forth a powerful bill that includes prog-metal favorites The Ocean Collective and prog-folk outfit Cellar Darling. This can't miss run will be kicking off Nov. 9 in Washington, D.C., with the month-long trek carrying over to a Dec. 10 finale in Tampa, Florida. See all of the scheduled dates, cities and venues listed below.

Katatonia Announce Fall 2022 North American Tour
The Ocean Collective and Cellar Darling will support the November-December run
Katatonia have announced a fall 2022 North American tour with support from The Ocean Collective and Cellar Darling.
The outing is Katatonia’s first on North American shores since 2017. Dates kick off November 9th in Washington, D.C., and run through December 10th in Tampa, Florida.
Ticket pre-sales for select dates go live Wednesday (August 24th) at 11 a.m. local time. General on sale begins Friday at 11 a.m. ET. You can pick up tickets via Ticketmaster .
”North America! We are very pleased to announce that we are coming back to your shores for a full headline tour,” commented Katatonia frontman Jonas Renske via a press release. “Support will come from our talented friends in The Ocean Collective and Cellar Darling. We haven’t toured North America since 2017, so this return is way overdue. See you all later this fall!”
Since their last North American tour, Katatonia have released a studio album, City Burials , and a live recording, Dead Air — both dropping in 2020 amidst the height of the pandemic.
The Swedish metal luminaries are perhaps best known for their seminal 1993 debut Dance of December Souls and its follow-up, 1996’s Brave Murder Day . They’ve kept up a prolific rate of output over the past three decades, shifting from a hybrid black-death-doom metal sound to a more alternative, gothic approach on latter releases.

KATATONIA Announces 2022 North American Headline Tour
KATATONIA Announces Fall 2022 North American Headline Tour Featuring Support from The Ocean Collective & Cellar Darling Beginning November 9 | Tickets On Sale Friday, August 26
Melancholic metal masters KATATONIA are thrilled to return to North American shores this fall after a five year absence – announcing a massive 2022 headline tour featuring support from progressive metal frontrunners The Ocean Collective and prog-folk force Cellar Darling . The tour is set to begin on November 9 in Washington, DC and will visit several major cities into December, coming to an end on December 10 in Tampa, FL.
Tickets for this can’t-miss tour go on sale to the public on Friday, August 26 at 11:00am local time. Visit www.katatonia.com for tickets and more information.
KATATONIA frontman Jonas Renske states: ”North America! We are very pleased to announce that we are coming back to your shores for a full headline tour, starting on November 9 in Washington, DC and going through to December 10 in Tampa, FL. Piercing through the core in 1991 when KATATONIA was brought to life by the inimitable Jonas Renkse (now vocalist) and renowned guitarist Anders Nyström, the unit has taken a fascinating journey from their heavy atmospheric extreme metal beginnings in the early 90s underground metal scene to their current status as a unique, free-spirited progressive rock amalgamation that stretches beyond the boundaries of standard music. Each stunning work of KATATONIA is tantamount to a cathartic experience – from their seminal debut, the legendary Dance Of December Souls (1993), to their most recent haunting masterpiece, the critically acclaimed City Burials (2020) – the latter marking their most successful release to date (debuting at #6 GER, #5 FI, etc).
The five-piece has never failed in evolving its sound and unique identity into something that is known as one of Sweden’s top-notch musical forces today.
KATATONIA officially announced their signing with Napalm Records in June 2022. Stay tuned for more exciting news coming soon!

According to the French edition of Rock Hard magazine, keyboardist Joakim Svalberg ( YNGWIE MALMSTEEN , GLENN HUGHES ) has been rehearsing with OPETH for the past few weeks, but has not yet been made an official member of the band.
A photo of Svalberg in the studio with OPETH during the mixing sessions for the group's new album, "Heritage" , can be seen below.
Keyboardist Per Wiberg , who joined OPETH in 2005, was relieved of his duties in April as part of a mutual decision with the remaining members of the band.
OPETH vocalist/guitarist Mikael kerfeldt released the following statement on the matter: "Well, it's been somewhat of a revolving door of members during the last couple of years, and now Per is no longer a member. [ Martin ] Mendez [bass], Axe [ Martin Axenrot , drums] and Fredrik [ kesson , guitar] and I came to the decision that we should find a replacement for Per right after the recordings of the new album, and this came as no surprise to Per . He had, in turn, been thinking about leaving, so you could say it was a mutual decision. There's no bad blood, just a relationship that came to an end, and that's that. We wish Per the best, and he did a splendid job recording keyboards for the last record, which stands as his final recording with OPETH ."
OPETH will release its tenth album, "Heritage" , on September 20 via Roadrunner Records . The CD was produced by Mikael kerfeldt and was recorded earlier this year at Atlantis studios (formerly Metronome studios) in Stockholm. Mixing duties were handled by Steven Wilson ( PORCUPINE TREE ) and kerfeldt . Longtime collaborator Travis Smith also worked with kerfeldt to create, design and execute the album's artwork, which can be seen below.
"Heritage" will be released in several configurations that will certainly incite the interest of OPETH 's legion of fans, known for their passion for collecting and collectibles. The album will be released as a standard version; as a special edition loaded with extras; as a box set exclusive to the Roadrunner and the band's own official Omerch webstore; and as a double LP. There is something for every OPETH fan, thanks to this variety of options.
Commented kerfeldt , "It will be our 10th album/observation. I dig it; we all do. In fact, it feels like I've been building up to write for and participate on an album like this since I was 19."
kerfeldt went a little deeper and described the music contained within "Heritage" , saying, "It's quite intense at times in some 'old' murky way, and quite beautiful and stark at times, if I may say so myself.
"It's obvious I'm going to say nice things about it since I wrote, basically, the whole piece, but I guess it will raise a few eyebrows and it certainly is an acquired taste.
"I think you'll need a slightly deeper understanding of our music as a whole to be able to appreciate this record.
"I've realized my influences for this album are so diverse that I can't really say what it sounds like.
"If I can compare it to any other band, it would have to be OPETH , but it's different from the stuff we've done before.
"I've listened a lot to ALICE COOPER for the last year, yet I can't say it sounds like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' .
"I hope you'll like it once you hear it."
"Heritage" track listing:
01. Heritage 02. The Devil's Orchard 03. I Feel The Dark 04. Slither 05. Nepenthe 06. Haxprocess 07. Famine 08. The Lines In My Hand 09. Folklore 10. Marrow Of The Earth
The first single and video from "Heritage" will be the song "The Devil's Orchard" .

Taylor Swift Adds ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ to Her ‘Eras Tour’ Setlist in Paris Concert
Taylor Swift officially changed her Eras Tour setlist to include The Tortured Poets Department in her first concert since the album’s release.
The singer, 34, resumed the international leg of her tour at Paris La Défense Arena in France on Thursday, May 9. During the show, she added six songs to the already packed lineup: “But Daddy I Love Him” with a snippet of “So High School” as the outro, “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me,” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Swift also played “loml” during the acoustic set, right after the Midnights song “Paris.”
The Tortured Poets Department set began with Swift’s background dancers slowly progressing onto the stage dressed all in white. Swift then emerged in a white dress with black ink writing on the skirt. She also donned a black choker necklace similar to the one she wore to the Grammys in February, the night she announced TTPD . Swift later removed the dress to reveal a black, sparkly bralette and matching high-waisted underwear. She added a gold jacket to the ensemble to perform the final song of the TTPD set, “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
Swift has been on a two-month hiatus from her tour since performing in Singapore in March. During her time off, she released her 11th studio album in April, which she described in an Instagram post at the time as “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”

She continued: “This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.”
Two hours after the album’s release, Swift dropped 15 additional songs. “It’s a 2 a.m. surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album ,” she wrote via Instagram. “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past two years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology . Fifteen extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore … it’s all yours.”
The Tortured Poets Department broke a multitude of records upon its debut, with its first-week total sales coming in at 2.61 million units. Swift celebrated the accomplishment in an April Instagram post.

“My mind is blown. I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album,” she gushed. “2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed.”
Swift then shared her enthusiasm over returning to the Eras Tour after the album’s success. “I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS??” she concluded. “May 9th can’t come soon enough.”
The Eras Tour kicked off in March 2023 and will run through December, and it already had a massive three-and-a-half hour setlist that highlighted hits from throughout Swift’s career. Still, fans speculated in April that she was planning to add The Tortured Poets Department after she shared a YouTube Shorts video of her tour rehearsals, where Swifties spotted several hints that changes were in the works. In one clip, Swift posed in front of a sign that appeared to feature the album’s logo, and in another segment, her backup dancers seemed to be practicing with new props.

After a two-month hiatus, Taylor Swift is back on the road with the European leg of the Eras Tour . There will be 18 cities on the list of tour stops, and already reports are circulating of a heavy U.S. fan presence at the shows.

Adding songs, of course, meant saying goodbye to some favorites, even in a 45-song set list, at least on this first night. Cut from the show were The Archer, Long Live, The 1, Tolerate It, The Last Great American Dynasty, and Tis the Damn Season.
Swift’s new stage outfits included a new Lover bodysuit, a Fearless dress, and an Enchanted gown, accompanied by a new t-shirt for the Red era, saying, “This is Not Taylor’s Version.”
Saluting the Folklore era, she wore a new yellow dress, while 1989 was changed to a blue-and-pink sequined ensemble.
The order of the set list changed as well. Evermore came after Fearless , followed by Red and then Speak Now . Evermore and Folklore merged into one era.
Swift stuck to her original set list at the start of the Midnights era by singing Lavender Haze, Anti-Hero, and Midnight Rain.
Overall, Swift played these songs from her newest album: But Daddy I Love Him , So High School, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, Down Bad, Fortnight, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, and I Can Do It with a Broken Heart.

Taylor Swift Adds TTPD Songs (and Subtracts Others) from Eras Tour Setlist as European Leg Kicks Off in Paris
The singer's May 9 show marks her first since releasing 'The Tortured Poets Department' — see all the setlist changes

- Taylor Swift resumed her Eras Tour in Paris on May 9
- The concert marked her first since releasing her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department
- She added songs from TTPD to the tour setlist, while removing a handful of other album tracks throughout the show
Taylor Swift is back and better than ever!
After a nearly two-month break from her historic Eras Tour , during which she released her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department , the singer has taken the stage once again, and this time, she’s in Europe.
The pop star, 34, took the stage at Paris La Défense Arena in France on May 9 to perform her career-spanning set list — which has been edited to make room for TTPD tracks, meaning some others have been cut (at least for now). New outfits, set pieces and choreography were also present.
Fans realized they were in for a fresh Eras Tour experience when the concert's introduction video was changed to include a TTPD section of the Lover house representing each of Swift's eras.
As per usual, she opened the show Thursday with the Lover section — but skipped "The Archer." From there, the Grammy winner went into Fearless followed by Red , performing the sections in a different order than during the previous tour legs. Another nod to the setlist switch-ups? Swift sported a t-shirt that read, "This Is Not Taylor's Version," while performing "22."

Next came the Speak Now section, and she removed "Long Live," which was initially added following the July 2023 release of the album's rerecorded Taylor's Version .
The Reputation segment then arrived, followed by a combined Folklore and Evermore section with "The 1," "The Last Great American Dynasty," "Tolerate It" and "'Tis the Damn Season" getting cut.
"I have always talked about Folklore and Evermore as sister albums," explained Swift on stage. "On the Eras Tour, we have reunited the sisters, combined them into one chapter, you can call it 'Folkmore,' 'Everlore,' you can call it whatever you want as long as you promise to sing 'Champagne Problems' really loud."
The 1989 section came afterwards, and then The Tortured Poets Department . The section highlighting Swift's latest album featured "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" and "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart."
Swift then performed two surprise songs: "Paris" from Midnights and "loml" from TTPD .
The show concluded with the Midnights section, with all seven tracks from previous shows remaining in the setlist.

Since Swift's last round of Eras Tour shows in Singapore in March — which the pop star dubbed an “unforgettable way to end this leg of the tour” — she has kept busy, attending Coachella , enjoying date nights with boyfriend Travis Kelce and, of course, releasing her latest album.

The ”Florida!!!” singer will play three more shows at the Paris La Défense Arena on May 10, 11 and 12 before heading to the rest of her May tour stops, which include Stockholm, Lisbon and Madrid.
Then, the Eras Tour’s European leg will continue, returning to France (Lyon this time!) and hitting the U.K. before heading to Dublin in late June.
Swift will continue performing in Europe throughout the summer before wrapping in London in August and heading back to North America for a slew of shows in Toronto and, finally, Vancouver.

Why Aussie DJ postponed New York shows
Three-time Grammy award-winning artist Olivia Rodrigo has announced her first-ever run of shows in Australia.
The “Vampire” singer added nine new international dates to her highly celebrated Guts world tour, including two nights each in Melbourne and Sydney.
Rodrigo will chart her way through Asia, including Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore, before heading south to Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on October 9 and 10, then up to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on October 17 and 18.
New Zealand singer-songwriter Benee will open all four shows.
Rodrigo’s tour supports her second critically acclaimed studio album, Guts, which was released in September and earnt her six Grammy-award nominations, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
For her first arena tour to date, she has filled out some of the world’s most famous venues, including Madison Square Garden in New York and The O2 in London.
Tickets for the newly added Australia dates will go on sale first to American Express card members in the coming days who will be able to get first dibs on tickets while supplies last.
Live Nation will then host their pre-sale on Wednesday, May 15 at 1pm (AEST), with fans told to sign up for access before the sale.
VIP packages and experiences are available to fans who want to take their concert experience to the next level.
A limited number of $20 Silver Star tickets have been made available for all shows, with Rodrigo saying she wanted to make it as affordable as possible for her fans.
There is a limit of two tickets per person, with seat locations to be revealed on the day of the concert.
A portion of Rodrigo’s proceeds from ticket sales will go to Olivia Rodrigo’s Fund 4 Good, which funds initiatives that support girls’ education, reproductive rights and prevents gender-based violence.
Taylor Swift has refreshed the European leg of her blockbuster Eras Tour with dazzling new outfits and an entirely new set.
A local musician has claimed he heard whispers Pink was “p***ed off” about the fanfare surrounding Taylor Swift while the pair both toured Australia.
A popular Aussie DJ with almost two million Instagram followers has shared the reason for postponing two shows in New York.
