– Honolulu Festival and Nagaoka Fireworks – The Honolulu Festival is a cultural exchange event held in Hawaii every March. It was founded in 1995 by the Honolulu Festival Foundation and is supported by the City and County of Honolulu, the Hawaii Tourism Authority, JTB, JAL, and local businesses. The festival was canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it resumed in 2023. The Grand Parade on the final day features performances by people from Hawaii, Japan, and the Asia-Pacific region. Why can you see Nagaoka fireworks in Honolulu? The City and County of Honolulu and the City of Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, became sister cities in 2012 with the aim of deepening Japan-US friendship and contributing to peace. Since then, Nagaoka fireworks have been launched on the final day of the Honolulu Festival. The fireworks are a symbol of the strong commitment of both cities to peace. https://www.honolulufestival.com/en/festival/nagaoka-fireworks/

See the Rhine in Flames Fireworks Displays in Germany
The spectacular Rhein in Flammen (Rhine in Flames) fireworks events are held annually on the Rhine River at Bonn, St Goar, Koblenz, Rüdesheim, and Oberwesel — cruise boat tickets to see the Rhine on fire sell out fast.
Each summer, massive firework displays light up the Rhine in Germany as if the river is on fire. These events, known as Rhein in Flammen (literally, Rhine in Flames), are held on five summer weekends at five different locations along the Rhine near Bonn, Rüdesheim / Bingen, Koblenz / Spay, Oberwesel, and St Goar / St Goarhausen. Further firework displays are held in other towns including major events in Frankfurt am Main, Mainz, Cologne, and Düsseldorf. Visitors may enjoy the fireworks from many riverbanks and hills overlooking the Rhine River, but the best views are from the around 70 Rhine River pleasure cruise boats that congregate at these fireworks displays. Early reservations are essential for seats on these riverboats – tickets are not cheap but usually include meals as well.
The Firework Spectacular Rhine in Flames – The Original
Fireworks along the Rhine River have a tradition going back around two centuries, although the major extravaganzas are a more recent invention. To distinguish the special firework events from lesser shows that try to trade on the famous name, the five largest firework displays have been christened the Rhine in Flames – The Original ( Rhein in Flammen – Das Original ).
The five original Rhine in Flames events are held each year at:
- Bonn / Siebengebirge – First Saturday in May
- Bingen / Rüdesheim – First Saturday in July
- Spay / Braubach – Koblenz – Second Saturday in August
- Oberwesel – Second Saturday in September
- St Goar / St Goarhausen (Loreley) – Third Saturday in September
Each festival has its own hours and special accompanying events. As it stays light until relatively late in Germany during summer, the fireworks seldom start before 9 pm and generally last around an hour.
See the Rhine in Flames Fireworks from River Cruise Boats in Germany
The Rhine in Flames spectaculars may be seen from many vantage points along the Rhine River. Most public spaces on the riverbanks and in the hills are free but as the firework displays are often spread out along the Rhine the show is best seen from the deck of a riverboat. Around 70 Rhine River pleasure boats congregate at each Rhein in Flammen event. These boats cruise down the Rhine and follow the different firework displays and lit castles.
Tickets for the Rhine in Flames boat cruises are generally not cheap but still sell out very fast. Advance reservations are generally required. Most boat cruises include meals while drinks are always available.
Regular discounts are not applicable on Rhine in Flames cruises. Special excursions may be available on boats, e.g. from Frankfurt , that usually do not cruise on certain routes on the day of the fireworks and the next day as boats reposition for and after the event.
German Wine Festivals along the Rhine in Flames Route
The Rhein in Flammen spectaculars are very popular with tourists and locals alike. Many towns along the route arrange festivals and special cultural programs on the weekend of the fireworks.
The banks of the German Rhine River are home to several important wine-growing areas and many of the small towns have viniculture, in addition to tourism, as the base of their economies. The wine festival in Oberwesel is particularly famous while wine always seems to flow rather freely in Rüdesheim. Many other towns will have “wine streets” and other street festivals where local food and drink can be consumed.
Firework Displays in Frankfurt, Düsseldorf and Mainz
Although not part of the official Rhine in Flames schedule, major fireworks displays in Frankfurt am Main, Mainz, and Düsseldorf also attract large crowds and many boats. These firework displays are held in conjunction with large folk festivals in these cities.
- In Düsseldorf, the Kirmesfeuerwerk is held mid-July and the Japanese fireworks on the third weekend of May.
- In Frankfurt am Main, two special fireworks events are held at the beginning of August (Mainuferfest) and the end of August (Museumsuferfest).
- In Mainz, a new event is the Summer Lights (Mainzer Sommerlichter) on the last Saturday of July.
These firework displays are spectacular but not as special as the Rhein in Flammen events. However, transportation is easy and the views from the riverbanks and many buildings in these cities are mostly free.
Transportation to the Rhine in Flames Fireworks Events
Public transportation is generally the best choice for traveling to the Rhine in Flames spectacles. Extra late trains are often available on the night of the event with additional passenger and car ferries crossing the Rhine too.
See train and public transportation schedules at German Railways .
With the possible exception of the Rhein in Flammen in Bonn, drivers will have to deal with narrow roads in the Rhine Valley and limited parking opportunities in small towns. However, even for the Bonn event, public transportation is generally the better option as the fireworks draw many visitors from nearby Cologne and the Ruhr area. The spectacle in Rüdesheim is similarly popular with visitors from nearby Mainz, Wiesbaden, and Frankfurt am Main.
Day pleasure cruises on the Rhine River in Germany are very popular. With the exception of special events such as the Rhine in Flames weekends, reservations are generally not possible or required for day-trip sightseeing excursion cruises. The most popular area for day cruises is the Middle Rhine ( Loreley Valley ) between Rüdesheim and Koblenz – this area is littered with castles and top sights including the famous Loreley. Day-trip and panorama cruises are also possible in the Cologne and Bonn areas.

The Annual Seoul Fireworks Festival: A Guide To The Event & The Views
The Seoul International Fireworks Festival (서울세계불꽃축제) is a yearly event in Seoul that takes place in the Yeouido Han River Park area each autumn and it is stunning! Massive crowds arrive using all modes of transportation and not only is the Yeouido Han River Park packed, but the bridges are as well.
Want to know how to see the fireworks in Seoul? Have a picnic before the fire flowers , as they call them in Korean, explode, or just have some fun near Han River? Here is what you should know to plan an amazing outing to see this festival in Seoul that is a must see event each year.
Below you will find all of the information you need to see the fire flowers and how to get away from the crowds… or at least not become a sardine smashed between a ton of people on the way in and out.
When is the Seoul Fireworks Festival?
What is the seoul fireworks festival, what time is the fireworks show in seoul, can i go to the seoul fireworks festival, does it cost money to go to the seoul fireworks festival, the main event hall, han river cruise, from yeouido han river park, from ichon han river park, from mapo bridge, from hangang bridge.
(This post contains affiliate links, which means I receive a certain percentage of a sale if you purchase after clicking at no cost to you. Thank you for your support.)
The 2023 Event is scheduled to be on October 7, 2023.
This annual event takes place in the autumn each year, usually the first weekend in October or around there. This has been an annual event since 2000 hosted by the Hanwha company. Want to enjoy fall with a bang? This is the event to see.
Visitors can expect to see around 100,000 fireworks exploding in the sky and about 20,000 people come out to see the event in person at the Yeouido Han River Park but actually, you can see see the spectacle from other spots as well and all in all, it is estimated that 120,000 people go to central Seoul for this event.
The fireworks show begins at 7:30pm and ends at 8:30pm, but there are various other events going on throughout the day in the area of Yeouido from 1:00pm. Other events may include busking, performances, craft beer vendors and other food trucks. While you may WANT to rock up just for the fireworks portion, that just isn’t so easy so make sure you plan plan plan and keep reading to see how.
Various countries participate each year and show off their fireworks might and everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the illuminating spectacle.
The fireworks show is FREE. While you may end up paying for food and drinks and maybe even a Han River Cruise for an even better view, the show itself is free!
Where To See The Yeouido Han River Fireworks Festival From
There are various spots, some more popular than others, to get a great view. Read the options and decide which one is best for you or which one has the easiest transportation options to get you in and out easily. The crowds can be massive and for some people that’s the fun in it, so shoot straight for Yeouido and see what you can see. If crowds aren’t your thing, then there are other spots to seek in Seoul.
There is an event hall set up in front of the 63 Building that is said to be the best place for viewing. I haven’t visited this spot personally, but would be remiss if I didn’t mention it. There’s a soundtrack that plays along with the fireworks and here is where you’ll be able to hear it. There are official tickets for this venue if you want the best seats in the house but everything else is free so keep that in mind.
Throughout the events each year, I’ve looked out to see the boats on the river which I can only assume have one of the best views in the city. If you want a truly special experience, try to book your seat on a boat. ELand cruises has boats in the water that I’ve seen but they don’t have booking for English speakers on their site, but you can book through Klook to get good rates and access to the boats. This would be one amazing way to see the fireworks in my opinion.
- Directions: Yeouinaru Subway Station, exit 3. Walk down to the riverside and then walk right and you’ll find the docks.
Yeouido Park is the most popular spot to see the fireworks from BUT that means that it gets packed hours in advance of the actual fireworks. If you want a spot in this hot hot spot, plan to arrive at least four hours early and take a picnic to enjoy the afternoon in the area.
Do be prepared that this area ends up mat to mat on the grass and side walks so in the end, there is no grass and you will be right next to whoever set up their mat next to you. The subway station here also ends up amazingly packed and it will make most people uncomfortable at the intense crowds so I highly suggest you do NOT take a subway after seeing the fireworks if you’re in the park.
- Directions: Yeouinaru Subway Station, exit 2 & 3. You’ll see the river as soon as you exit.
This park is across the river from the popular Yeouido Park. From this park, you won’t be able to hear the music that goes along with the fireworks displays but you will be away from much of the crowds and have a more relaxed view. If you’re in the park, make sure to see the awesome art installations that are there as well. Learn more about this park and Yeouido in this post all about the Han River Parks.
- Directions: Sinyongsan Subway Station, exit 2 & 3. Walk straight to the river.
My go-to for the past few years has been the view from Mapo Bridge. We start at the southern end for the beginning of the show and throughout the show gradually make our way north. This means that we’re seeing the best of the show from the middle point in the bridge and working our way toward a less crowded area to catch transportation home at the end. There are people on the bridge, but there are also police to keep cars moving and keep a walking path open so it’s easy to get through.
- Directions: If you want to start at the southern end, go to Yeouinaru Subway Station, exit 2. Walk straight to the bridge. If you want to start from the northern end, go to Mapo Subway Station, exit 1 or and walk straight.
Since we live on the west side of the city, we always view the fireworks from the Mapo Bridge, but if you live on the east side, the Hangang Bridge would be a good spot to get views. Were I watching from that bridge, I’d work it similarly and start from one end, and gradually work my way across throughout the show so that I’m at the other end by the end of the show so I can hop onto transport before any crowds might head that way.
- Directions: Nodeul Subway Station, exit 2. Walk straight to follow the curve around to the bridge.

Toast the fireworks with champagne!
Fireworks festival cruising (Tokyo Bay, rivers) features
Fireworks are a summer tradition in Japan.
Everybody wants to enjoy fireworks on a summer evening!
But don’t you find the crowds at fireworks festivals daunting?
It’s a lot of work to find a space, to get something to eat, and even just to go to the restroom.
At a time like that, you might find yourself envying those who can see the fireworks from their homes.
But in fact, there’s another surefire spot for viewing fireworks, one you may not be aware of.
A charter cruise!
You can watch the fireworks from the deck of a cruiser.
By chartering the entire boat, you’ve got your own fireworks venue.
You can simply enjoy the fireworks in a comfortable environment away from the madding crowds.
But what makes this option most attractive is its proximity to the action.
For fireworks launched from the sea, the view from on board is much closer than from land.
The sight of fireworks going off all around you is sure to be a memorable one.
While you can view the fireworks from inside the cabin, since the lights are dimmed during the event, the best view is from the deck.
Wearing summer yukata robes makes for an even more festive atmosphere.
If you want even more of a festival experience, we recommend the festival option or other choices.
Since summer marks a break from the busy working schedule, you don’t want to waste time or add unnecessary stress.
A charter cruise is a way to create an ultimate occasion by spending time with valued friends.
