An actor and musician, Trey Curtis debuted in  Hamilton  during its special limited run in Puerto Rico in 2019. He has subsequently been involved in productions in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Melbourne and Manila. In the last year, he has understudied the roles of Alexander Hamilton, Hercules Mulligan, James Madison, Marquis de Lafayette, Thomas Jefferson and more on Broadway. In addition to his work with  Hamilton , Curtis has appeared on the Facebook series  Five Points . His album  You Happy?  is available on streaming platforms.

Composer, lyricist and performer Lin-Manuel Miranda most recently played the title role in his smash hit Hamilton , for which he received 2016 Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score. He burst out onto the Broadway scene with his Tony Award-winning show, In The Heights . In addition to writing this first rap-infused musical, he also took on the leading role of Usnavi. Miranda co-wrote music and lyrics for Bring It On: The Musical and starred in the Encores! productions of Merrily We Roll Along and tick, tick...BOOM! . He starred as Jack in Disney's Mary Poppins Returns and wrote a number of songs featured in Disney's Moana.  Miranda is a founder member of the hip-hop improv group Freestyle Love Supreme.

First Look: Hamilton UK and Ireland tour

Production images have been released for the first ever UK and Ireland tour of the award-winning HAMILTON, which currently plays at the Manchester Palace until 24 February 2024.

HAMILTON stars Shaq Taylor as Alexander Hamilton, Sam Oladeinde as Aaron Burr, Gabriela Benedetti as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds,  KM Drew Boateng as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, Daniel Boys as King George, Maya Britto as Eliza Hamilton, Aisha Jawando as Angelica Schuyler, DeAngelo Jones as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Billy Nevers as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Charles Simmons as George Washington.

“Opening first in Manchester, followed by Edinburgh – not far from where the real story of Alexander Hamilton began in Ayrshire, where his father was born in the 1700’s, before he moved to Nevis in the West Indies.”

Jeffrey and I cannot wait for audiences around the country to discover, or enjoy again, Lin-Manuel Miranda 's revolutionary musical phenomenon.”

Shaq Taylor 's West End credits include playing Beast in Beauty and the Beast at the London Palladium, as well as on the production's National Tour, Joe Scott in Girl from The North Country at the Gielgud Theatre, and Javert in Les Misérables at the Queen's Theatre. His other credits include Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Sweet Charity at The Donmar Warehouse , Hadestown at The National Theatre , and A House Music Opera at The Young Vic . On screen he can be seen in Netflix's Bodkin, and The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society.

Sam Oladeinde has most recently appeared in Assassins at Chichester Festival Theatre. His West End credits Come From Away at The Phoenix Theatre , A Christmas Carol at the Dominion Theatre, The Prince of Egypt at the Dominion Theatre, The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre and the original West End Cast of Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre. On television he has appeared in the BBC's Casualty and Doctors and in the short film, Diary Room.

Gabriela Benedetti most recently appeared in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club and Legally Blonde at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, having graduated from Urdang Academy in 2021.

KM Drew Boateng has appeared in Scroogelicious at Theatre Peckham, Five Guys Named Moe at Upstairs at the Gatehouse, The Color Purple at Curve, Leicester and via streaming platforms, Motown The Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Hotel at The National Theatre , Blues in the Night at Hackney Empire, The Warriors at Barbican and Breakin' Convention at Sadler's Wells. On film he can be seen in Walking On Sunshine.

Daniel Boys 's West End credits include Falsettos at The Other Palace, The Boys in the Band at the Vaudeville Theatre, Spamalot at the Playhouse Theatre, Avenue Q at the Noel Coward Theatre and RENT at the Prince of Wales Theatre. He has appeared in the national and European tours of The War of the Worlds, Nativity! The Musical, Grease and West Side Story. In concert he has appeared in Treason at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, The Pirate Queen at the London Coliseum, Tommy at the Prince Edward Theatre and Disney's Enchanted Evening at Hyde Park. On television he has appeared in Netflix's Obsession, ITV's Unforgotten and Endeavor and the BBC's Life After Life, EastEnders, Holby City and Any Dream Will Do.

Maya Britto most recently appeared in Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, making her West End Debut. Her previous credits include The Magician's Elephant with the Royal Shakespeare Company, the UK Tour of Tokyo Rose and workshops of Beyond The Circle and Becoming Angela at The National Theatre .

Aisha Jawando 's West End credits include starring as Tina in Tina – The Musical at the Aldwych Theatre, Martha Reece in Motown The Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Beautiful a the Aldwych Theatre, The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre and The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. Her other theatre credits include Jack and the Beanstalk at the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford, Cinderella at Hackney Empire, The Life at Southwark Playhouse and the Original London cast of Fela at The National Theatre . On screen she will be seen in Universal Pictures' Wicked and Netflix's Sex Education.

DeAngelo Jones has most recently appeared in the ensemble of Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, as well as appearing in the Vienna production of The Bodyguard and Kiss Me, Kate at the London Coliseum with Opera North.

Billy Nevers ' London credits include Fred in Groundhog Day at the Old Vic, Francois in &Juliet at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Legally Blonde at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre and Jesus Christ Superstar at the Barbican and Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. He has appeared in the concerts I Could Use A Drink in Concert at the Garrick Theatre, Roles We'll Never Play at the Vaudeville Theatre and Apollo Theatre, and An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth at the London Palladium. Charles Simmons' theatre credits include playing George Washington in the German production of Hamilton , and Ike Turner in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical in Hamburg. On television he has appeared on The Voice Germany, as a juror on Germany's All Together Now and a vocal coach on X-Factor Germany.

The Olivier, Tony and Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical opened at the newly re-built and restored Victoria Palace Theatre in London in December 2017 where it continues to play to sell-out houses and is currently booking until 2 March 2024. The production continues to break records on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, throughout North America, and commences its International tour in Manila this week.

The full cast for Lin-Manuel Maranda’s  Hamilton  has been revealed ahead of the production’s first ever UK and Ireland tour.

The West End cast of Hamilton .

The multi-award winning production will be fronted by Shaq Taylor as Alexander Hamilton, Sam Oladeinde as Aaron Burr, Gabriela Benedetti as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds and KM Drew Boateng as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison.

The rest of the main cast is made up by Daniel Boys as King George, Maya Britto as Eliza Hamilton, Aisha Jawando as Angelica Schuyler, DeAngelo Jones as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Billy Nevers as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Charles Simmons as George Washington.

Producer Cameron Mackintosh said: “Jeffrey Seller and I are thrilled to introduce this hugely talented cast for the first ever UK and Ireland Tour of Hamilton .

“ I was fortunate to be in ‘the room where it happens’ for the start of rehearsals and feel very proud that we will soon have two brilliant companies of Hamilton in the UK; in London at the Victoria Palace Theatre, where the show continues to break box-office records and on tour, starting at the Palace Theatre Manchester in November.

The full touring cast will take to the stage from 11th November.

“Jeffrey and I cannot wait for audiences around the country to discover, or enjoy again, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revolutionary musical phenomenon.”

Leading men Shaq Taylor and Sam Oladeinde both have West End experience, with Taylor appearing as Javert in Les Misérables at The Queen’s Theatre and the latter enjoying a spell in  Come From Away  at the Phoenix Theatre.

The tour kicks off at Manchester Palace Theatre on Saturday 11th November 2023, before heading to Edinburgh, Bristol, Dublin and Cardiff in a run that stretches up until January 2025. Venue and date information can be found by clicking here .

Theater Review: HAMILTON (North American Tour)

OUR FUNKY FOUNDING FATHERS

A hip-hop Alexander Hamilton? A beat-box Father of His Country? A jumping James Madison and a jiveass Jefferson who disses bigtime in a poetry slam? The ten-dollar bill will never be the same (or the dollar note for that matter). A sassy-spunky 2015 blast from the past set to irresistible rhythms,  Hamilton  is a wildly successful revamp (or reclamation) by Lin-Manuel Miranda (creator of  In the Heights ). It feels as revolutionary as the war it covers and as bold as the new nation it celebrates.

A money maker about the credit-worthy man who made our money (our first treasury secretary, co-author of  The Federalist Papers , and deal-maker for a strong government and centralized economy),  Hamilton is indefinitely invincible in this stop at Segerstrom Hall as part of a North American Tour.

Rapping and rampaging in set designer David Korins ’ big barn with wooden walkways and revolving stage, all but dancing to Howell Binkley ’s wizard lighting, Miranda’s makeover finds its heart beat  in “(I’m Not Going to Lose) My Shot” (darkly ironic, considering Hamilton’s demise). This is Hamilton’s declaration of independence as a hopeful, hungry seeker of newly minted glory, driven by a destiny he carves himself. Everything old is new again as we learn “who lives, who dies, who tells your story.”

DeAundre’ Woods tackles the title role with combustible ambition, climbing notes and surmounting obstacles from 1776 to 1800. Along Miranda’s “green brick road” we meet Hamilton’s true if tried helpmate Eliza (lovely Morgan Anita Wood ), his surrogate dad George Washington ( Darnell Abraham ), his ally Madison ( Brandon Louis Armstrong ), his opportunistic foil Burr ( Donald Webber, Jr. ), and his ideological foe Thomas Jefferson ( Paris Nix ). (John Adams, who HBO covered well enough, does not appear.) Keeping it huge as well as real, Miranda includes a sardonically clueless George III ( Rick Negron ), a stalwart Marquis de Lafayette (Nix), Hamilton’s cut-from-the-same-cloth teenage son Philip ( Manuel Stark Santos ), and Angelica Schuyler ( Marja Harmon ), Hamilton’s sustaining Muse and sister-in-law. Some actors are still working on diction, others were heard perfectly.

Drawing from Ron Chernow ’s 2004 biography, the action contrasts private and public happenings to show how, more than politics, history is local. Hamilton seems as much the subtle strategist who became G.W.’s “right hand man” as the skilled suitor to the Schuyler sisters, as much a comer (“History Has Its Eyes on You”) as a marked man (“The World Was Wide Enough”).

Radiating pluck and luck, opposing Northern interests to Southern subversion, Woods’ Hamilton is a dogged campaigner, whether negotiating  affaires d’honneur  (“Ten Duel Commandments”); intriguing for advantage (“Cabinet Battle”); forging a difference (“The Room Where It Happens”); admitting to bribing an irate husband to cover an adulterous affair (“The Reynolds Pamphlet”); or simply settling for some short serenity (“That Would Be Enough”). Paralleling the ardor of his once and future victim with his own aching aspirations, Mr. Webber, Jr.’s Burr (“Wait for It”), himself an orphan, fits Hamilton as Javert does Jean Valjean. Ms. Woods incarnates heartbreak in Eliza’s pop anthem “Burn.” No Madame Tussaud’s waxworks, the ensemble is game for fame.

You can fault Miranda’s fascination with a flawed hero to rewrite the story a bit — but, hey, this is the land of Musical Comedy: No bronze statue in the making, Hamilton was not opposed to slavery. A closet elitist, he was no pal to democracy, despising the mob and cultivating fellow plutocrats. It’s strange that Hamilton was decisive in making his arch adversary Thomas Jefferson our third president: Miranda’s ire at the adulterous slave owner stops him from acknowledging the populist fervor of a virtuous Virginian. But, pulsating to Andy Klankenbuehler ’s kinetic choreography, Hamilton  is a “non-stop” Pulitzer and Tony-winning musical, not a political testament. A nearly three-hour amusement ride, this is America as seen from the future, not projected from the past. Thomas Kail ’s faithful staging squeezes the juices from Miranda’s R&B magic-making. When it’s not S.R.O. (which it was on opening night), there will be dancing in the aisles. It’s impossible not to be caught up in the sheer anti-boredom of it all, thrill-making 21st-century theatricality to rechristen the republic.

Junior League Of Chattanooga Announces Return Of Tour Du Jour

Junior League of Chattanooga is brining back one of its favorite signature events–Tour du Jour. JLC has partnered with local interior designers, homeowners, builders, and realtors to find beautiful spaces for the public to view on this self-guided home tour of the greater Chattanooga area. 

“Tour du Jour is a fabulous opportunity for you to explore both new and historic homes in Chattanooga while enjoying a wonderful day with friends and supporting our organization’s causes,” said JLC President Mikaya Knight. 

This one-day community home tour will take place on May 11 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., a perfect Mother’s Day weekend activity. Tour du Jour will highlight the efforts of area homebuilders and remodelers in several homes around Chattanooga. 

Tickets for the event can be purchased at jlchatt.org . Individual tickets are $40 and a set of tickets is priced at $70.

The multi award-winning HAMILTON will tour the UK for the very first time opening in Manchester for a 15 week season, before moving to Edinburgh.

Further venues to be announced soon. 

“Since the day the show opened at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London has embraced Hamilton with an enthusiasm we could never have imagined.” Hamilton Producer Jeffrey Seller said: “We are excited to embark on a UK tour and share this special musical with audiences in Manchester and Edinburgh first.”

I feel extraordinarily fortunate that Lin and my friend Jeffrey Seller, the show’s original producer, have entrusted me with their wonderful musical in the UK and Ireland.

The London production opened in 2017 at the Victoria Palace, a theatre I completely rebuilt to house Hamilton, where it continues to play and has proved to be as big a success as the Broadway original. So, I am thrilled that it is time to put together a second British national touring company to bring this great show to our leading cities.

Hamilton County sees modest decline in unsheltered homelessness

After a substantial drop in 2023 following a spike during the pandemic, Hamilton County saw a more modest decline in unsheltered homelessness this year, according a numbers released Thursday by the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition .

In total, the number of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people in the county has remained level between 2023 and 2024, going from 785 to 783.

The agency counted 543 unsheltered homeless people in 2024, down from 607 in in 2023 and 1,008 in 2022. There were also 240 sheltered homeless people in Hamilton County this year, according to the figures, an increase from the 178 reported in 2023.

Mackenzie Kelly, interim executive director of the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition, said the pandemic spurred an increase in the number of homeless people in Hamilton County, which jumped from 364 in 2021 to 1,008 in 2022 .

"Last year's reduction was more drastic because we had to quickly respond to this new wave of homelessness because of COVID," Kelly said in a phone interview.

The pandemic also caused many people and families to become homeless for the first time, Kelly said.

"Statistically, (that) is a little bit easier population to get housed," Kelly said. "We know the longer you experience homelessness, the harder it is to then move those folks into permanent housing."

The annual count serves as a snapshot of homelessness on a single night. This year, it occurred Jan. 23. Kelly said cold weather that evening likely explains the increase in sheltered homelessness in 2024. That accounts for people who are staying in beds at places like the Salvation Army or the Chattanooga Rescue Mission and would otherwise be on the streets without those services.

Hamilton County has 227 shelter beds, which includes domestic violence but not cold weather shelters.

"It's just the difference in our shelter beds being at maximum capacity versus last year they just weren't," Kelly said of the increase. "Last year, the weather conditions were just totally different."

This year, volunteers tallied 680 unsheltered homeless people and 295 sheltered homeless people across the 11-county region, which includes Bledsoe, Bradley, Franklin, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Polk, Rhea and Sequatchie counties. The majority of the region's sheltered and unsheltered homeless were in Hamilton County.

Prior to the night of the annual count, an ice storm hit the region, making it difficult to access some of the roads, especially in rural counties, the coalition said in a news release Thursday.

"As such, we understand this could have impacted our count, specifically in the rural areas of the continuum of care," the release said.

In 2023, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly joined other officials in celebrating the nearly 40% decline in unsheltered homelessness.

His administration is trying to establish about 70 units of permanent supportive housing at a now-shuttered inn off Lee Highway. City staff recently reissued a request for proposals for the project after their preferred partner for the hotel conversion ran into legal trouble.

Late last year, Kelly's office announced plans to turn a former transit building on East 12th Street into a 24/7 homeless shelter, but officials hit pause on that project amid pushback from neighbors.

15 people injured when tram collides with guardrail at Universal Studios theme park near Los Angeles

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — More than a dozen people suffered mostly minor injuries when a tram used for tours crashed into a railing at Universal Studios Hollywood near Los Angeles, authorities and the company said.

Los Angeles County Fire Department units responded shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday to the theme park in Universal City, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) northwest of downtown LA, the agency said in a social media post.

The California Highway Patrol said that while the tram was negotiating a turn, its last car collided with a metal guardrail, “causing it to tilt and eject multiple passengers.”

The fire department said 15 people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. The highway patrol’s statement on Sunday said some of the injuries were moderate, but didn’t specify a number.

Universal Studios Hollywood said in a statement Sunday afternoon that tours have resumed with a modified route.

“Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved, and we are thankful that based on agency reports, the injuries sustained were minor. We are working closely with public agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, as we continue our review of the incident and safety remains a top priority,” the statement said.

The highway patrol, which is leading the investigation, said alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor.

The tram circuit, called the World-Famous Studio Tour, offers a glimpse behind the scenes of Universal movies including “Jaws” and Jordan Peele’s “Nope.” The theme park will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tour starting Friday.
