Highly recommend Uncorked wine tours. My friends and I were blown away from their level of service.  The ride was comfortable and clean.  Hugh, our driver, was friendly, courteous, played music we wanted to hear, provided water and checked us in each winery.  That was a nice touch.   Definitely recommend their service and will be using them again in the future.

Here’s what some of our guests shared around the web

What an amazing experience!!!!! The ride, recommendations and service was amazing. We were all cracking jokes with each other it was so fun. An amazing day. I’d use wine line again in a heart be. See you soon.

I booked this tour for my friends bachelorette. I have to say I am sooo glad I did!!! Thank you so much for making this trip memorable for us!!!!! We will definitely be booking our next tour with the wine line.

We couldn’t have had a better time this weekend. We were able to visit four wineries in five hours. We had plenty of time at each winery. Thanks to The Wine Line for providing a fun day.

We had a great day in Paso Robles. Our driver took us wherever we wanted to go and also gave us some great suggestions. Thanks for a fun day out with friends totally relaxing. Recommend The Wine Line 100 percent!

This service is awesome. My friend and I rented the private wine shuttle because three of the wineries we wanted to go to were outside the list. So we had the van to ourselves. I highly recommend The Wine Line.

Our driver took great care of our group and provided a tasty lunch. The Wine Line is the smart choice to visit several wineries and have everything covered – like lunch, driving, and making decisions on where to go.

Our party of 4 had the van to ourselves, and our driver accommodated everything we wanted. He took us to a variety of wineries, all with quality wines. A great way to travel with an expert.

- W. Fallon

“Booked a tour for myself and 5 friends and we had a BLAST! Our guide was awesome, he was on time, knowledgeable and fun. We enjoyed each of the tasting rooms that the guide introduced us to, especially Pear Valley. I highly recommend booking your tour with The Wine Wrangler!”

- Anonymous

“We just completed a tour with Paulie. Great guy, perfect choices thank you. Would highly recommend”

- P. Espinosa

“Yes everything went very smooth and my Mother is very happy about her trip. We will write up a great review for others to read and how excellent your customer service is. We will also advise our family and friends of the Wine Wrangler when they are up in the area. Many thanks!”

“Just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had. A great guide and a lot of fun. Her knowledge of the area and specific wineries was of great value to us. My husband does not drink so we have never hired a guide before but I have told everyone what a great time we had and it is so worth it. Hope some of my friends make their way up to Paso and use your service.”

- Bob & Tracy D

“Hello there- My husband and I went on your tour on Saturday July 9th and I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful time. The guide was great! He knew a lot about the area and was really informative and super super nice!!! We will definitely be on your tour again and I've already referred a few friends! Thanks again for such a great day! ”

- L. Cherwin

“What a great way to see beautiful Paso Robles and experience great-tasting wines! Our Wine Wrangler guide was knowledgeable and friendly and we all had a wonderful time. It was really fun meeting people from out of town, and seeing them appreciate our little bit of "paradise."”

- Ann Peterson

“Really had a blast on your tour. Our guide was fantastic - none better. Lunch was served right on time and delicious. Thanks again for the fun.”

- Joyce & Karen

“We'd like to thank you and our guide for a great experience during our private wine tasting tour on July 24, We had never been wine tasting in Paso Robles before, and our guide was a knowledgeable and pleasant guide! We're recommending The Wine Wrangler to all our friends and family, and will utilize your services again in the future! Thank you.”

- Kay & Lewis M.

“I have highly recommended your company - The Wine Wranglers - the only way to go! Coy, you know your wine. The service was outstanding & impeccable! ”

- D. & N. Conway

“I actually wanted to call the manager to let him know what an awesome job the young lady who helped us did. I apologize that I don't recall her name, very friendly dark haired young lady who took my reservations on Thursday, Feb. 11 and waited on us before and after our wine tour (even calling because we were late). She was the only one working that day due to some emergencies and it was after 5 when we returned from our tour and she had not even had a lunch break. As it was also Valentine's weekend she still had all her confirmations and gifts to prep for the next day. She did it all with a smile and very cheerful attitude. The manager should know what a real asset she is to the business and how pleasant and comfortable she made us. I had really planned on calling the manager to let him know what a great job she did. Far too often we only hear the negative from customers and fail to hear/applaud great service and experiences.... I truly hope she was rewarded for her hard work. Thank you again we enjoyed our tour and will recommend you to others.”

- P. Peckham

“Without a doubt, we would do it again. Everything about the tour was fun, informative and first class. We are ready to book another wine tour. Thank you for arranging the perfect weather and we will be sure to tell our friends that this is a great way to experience Central Coast wineries. Take care and hope to see you soon. ”

- T. & R. Lang

“Once again we wish to thank you for your warmth and courtesy during our tour yesterday. You made it seem as if we were old friends. I would certainly recommend you and your tour group to others. ”

- The Keils

“Thanks - we LOVED our guide. He was fantastic! ”

- A. Smith Jenks

“Your service was excellent and I will use you again and refer The Wine Wrangler to friends and family coming to the Paso Robles area.”

“My husband and I had our first tour with the Wine Wrangler this past Saturday the 1st. Jim was our guide and he was outstanding. This was by far the best tour we have ever had. Not only was Jim a wonderful guide, he picked wonderful wineries and allowed us to hand pick a few also. This was something we weren't used to as most other tour groups limit personal input. We cannot wait until next year to go on another Wine Wrangler tour. Thanks so much for making our Anniversary extra special!”

- M. & L. Beesley

“You guys are the greatest. I love great customer service. You guys are the epitome of customer service. That is why I don't hesitate to refer you to our friends. ”

“I just wanted to pass along our thanks for putting together a fantastic weekend for us. We all had a great first visit to the Paso area and are already talking about coming back. You guys have a great operation and when we come again you know we will arrange it with you. We will also do whatever we can here to promote you for any of our colleages heading your way. My only regret is that we did not listen to your recomendations more for which wineries to visit. Live and learn - next time we let you call the shots! Cheers.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tour last Saturday. In spite of the record heat in the Paso Robles area, Dave kept us cool by being prepared, thoughtful and knowledgable. Lunch was delicious and special requests were honored. What a fun and "tasty" way to spend a great day with thirteen new friends! We will definitely book a tour with you again. Thank you.”

- Marc & Pat

“Our tour guide was the best! He has a wonderful sense of humor. We had many conversations with him and enjoyed them all. He is reliable, honest, and we were honored to have him as our driver. He really made our party a terrific celebration! You are fortunate to have him as a driver. Thank you and please pass on our thanks directly to him. ”

- C. Steigelman

“I was talking to my mother and remembered that we wanted to thank you for the wine tour you took us on. We really enjoyed your company and hospitality. Thanks again.”

- J. Stewart

“The tour was wonderful. So glad you were able to accommodate us. Mike was a great tour guide, just as I remembered, and we had a fantastic time. There are so many great wineries in the Paso Robles area that it's hard to pick a favorite!”

- P. Salinas

“The tour was so much fun. Our guide, was great! We were celebrating our 17th Wedding Anniversary and had never been wine tasting before. What a fun and memorable thing to do! ”

- S. Richie

“I just wanted to email you to say thanks and that my fiancée and I had a great time on our tour on Friday. Jim was a great tour guide, very knowledgable about the area and was an all around great guy to be around. He even gave us some suggestions as to what we can do in the area for fun. With his suggestions, the weekend was full of more fun and we actually ran out of time before we got to check out all the things we wanted to do. The wineries he showed us were great…we would definitely come back again.”

- Dan & Jenny

“My mother and I had a great time and learned a lot about wine. Our guide, was great. Also wanted to tell you how great the lunch was. Thank you so much for a wonderful time. I look forward to going again on my next trip to Cambria. ”

- B. Slaughter

“You guys were great! Had a wonderful time. More fun, sun, and great wines than Napa and without the snootiness and high prices!”

- H. Hernandez

“I have to tell you that we had the most wonderful time on our tour this past Friday. Jim was a great guide and was also a very interesting person. He enriched our little adventure by knowing all the right places and people and stories. Thank you for the great time and we have decided to make this a definite new tradition during our fair visits from now on.”

- C. Gardener

“We had a great time with our guide on Sunday. She was very professional and knowledgeable. Thanks again and for the champagne for our anniversary.”

- Larry & Bobbie C.

“We used your tour last Monday - Jim was our guide. He was excellent! He adjusted our tour to accomodate our request for wine with lunch. I highly recommend your services. ”

“Just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! We had a wonderful time, everything was perfect—on time professional – comfortable Wendy our guide, was the BEST!!!! Thanks for a terrific tour!!”

10 Best Paso Robles Wineries for Wine Tasting 2024

10 Best Paso Robles Wineries To Visit: Wine Tasting Itinerary • Winetraveler

Where to Go Wine Tasting in Paso Robles in 2023 and 2024

Continuing on with more things to do in Paso Robles , it’s now time to head south and east of downtown for wine tasting . Spread this list of Paso Robles wineries out over several days to take more time lingering at each while adding in some of our other suggested activities in the area .

Provided you have a designated driver, I’ll highlight a suggested plan for a multi-day tour below. Oh – and I suggest bringing a wine suitcase or shipping box along as you’ll definitely want to bring some of these wines home!

Afternoon Tasting

Daou vineyards & winery, ancient peaks, wine tours & getting around paso robles.

From the 101 you’ll take the exit for 46 West toward the suggested wineries. If you don’t have a designated driver, consider hiring a guide from Grapeline Wine Tours to take you around, or hire a driver to drive YOUR car for the day . Use code WINETRAVELER15 for 15% off any tours or drivers you hire through our website.

The Allegretto resort also offers limo and town car services for its guests (prices vary). In fact, if you’re staying at the Allegretto Vineyard Resort Paso Robles , it’s only a 15-minute drive to start your day.

Morning Wine Tastings

2815 Live Oak Rd, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 227-1588

L’Aventure is open by appointment only.  I suggest scheduling your tasting for 10 a.m. and starting your one-day tasting adventure in this beautifully designed tasting room with their very knowledgeable team.

The Story: Stephan Asseo, owner and winemaker at L’Aventure Winery, began making wine in France in 1982, following his education at L’Ecole Oenologique de Macon, Burgundy, France. There he produced wines under various labels including Domaine de Courteillac, Chateau Fleur Cardinal and Chateau Robin in Bordeaux.

For 15 years, Stephan developed his craftsmanship and gained a reputation as a maverick. This desire to be more innovative than allowed by AOC law is what ultimately led him to California. In 1996, he searched for the right vineyard location from South Africa to Lebanon and Argentina to Napa — until he ultimately discovered Paso Robles . He immediately fell in love with the unique terroir: the rolling hills and mountain peaks, the deep calcareous soils and the maritime influences. All of which he felt made it a world-class wine region.

5 Best Wineries To Visit in Southern Paso Robles - L'Aventure Winery in Paso Robles California

The Wines: The spirit of L’Aventure is best observed in the “Paso Blends,” including the Optimus and the Estate Cuvée. The wines are blends of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot with percentages varying based on the vintage.

Winetraveler Tip: Ask for a brief look at the winery’s caves — completed in 2016 — to ensure natural cooling without the use of outside energy. The highlight of the cellar is the exposed limestone wall, which gives you a tangible understanding of L’Aventure’s soils.

Austin Hope & Treana

1585 Live Oak Rd, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 238-4112

Following our one-day itinerary, plan to arrive between 11:15 and 11: 30 a.m. for your tasting of Hope Family Wines. Walk-ins are welcome, but it is highly recommended that you make a reservation as they are frequently sold out. Weekends can be sold out up to 3-4 weeks in advance. If you’re looking to linger, inquire with the winery ahead of time if you can bring a picnic lunch to the vineyards as tasting space is limited.

The Story: In 1978, Austin’s parents moved the family from Bakersfield, California to Paso Robles to become farmers. At the time, the region had less than 1000 acres of grapevines planted. The Hope family planted grapevines and apple trees and fast became one of the region’s largest growers for Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Initially, the family had no desire to make wine. But in 1988, the Hopes opened a small tasting room while growing an ongoing collaboration with Caymus to include making and bottling the Liberty School wines coming from the Hope family’s Paso Robles vineyards.

Later, in 1996, Austin and his small team released the first red blend under the Hope family Treana label. It was the first red blend in Paso Robles to combine Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year, the winery’s new building was constructed and the family took Liberty School under the Hope Family umbrella. As the winery operations grew and new labels and wines were added — including the Austin Hope label in 2000 — the family turned their focus from farming to winemaking. You can read all about it here .

Hope Family Wines & Treana Wine Tasting in Paso Robles California

The Wines: The Hope Family Wines consists of five individual brands: Liberty School, Treana, Quest, Austin Hope  and Troublemaker . Each of the wines expresses the richness of Paso Robles from award-winning Cabs and Syrahs to a velvety Mourvèdre. The consistently renowned Austin Hope Cabernet Sauvignon is a pure expression of Paso Robles and is sourced from five of the 11 sub-AVAs of the region . Vineyard sites are selected for their specific soil type and fermentation takes place in stainless steel for precise tannin extraction. The wine is aged in 75% new French oak for 16 months.

Winetraveler Tip: Ask for the story of the label on each of the Austin Hope Rhône varietal wines. They represent the very essence of this family-owned winery.

It’s now likely around 12:30 and you’re more than ready for lunch, so we’re going to drive back west on the 46 to another renowned Paso Robles family-owned winery — Niner — for a 1 p.m. lunch on the patio overlooking the winery’s picturesque Heart Hill Vineyard.

Niner Wine Estates

2400 CA-46, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 239-2233

The Story: Richard Niner spent his career building small businesses, one of which brought him to Paso Robles in the early 1990s. It was then that he was immediately drawn to the potential of both the land and by the warmth of the people who lived here. After a long search, Richard and Pam purchased their first vineyard, Bootjack Ranch, in 2001 and spent the next decade building a tasting room and winery and sourcing and planting two additional vineyards. Today, Richard and Pam are retired, while their son Andy runs the business and oversees 223 acres across three different vineyards in Paso Robles and Edna Valley.

Niner Wine Estates Paso Robles Visit

The Wines: All the wines are made on-site in the LEED Certified Winery at Heart Hill Vineyard. Niner Wines are estate grown and the integration of farming and winemaking is their signature style. They are known for Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay as well as their flagship blend Fog Catcher. While dining at the restaurant or tasting in the winery you’ll also find a wide range of varietals and small lot bottlings.

Winetraveler Tip: This is an ideal place for that “framer” of a photo with Heart Hill Vineyard in the background.

Finishing lunch by 2:30, you’ll want to hop across 46 West to Sextant where hospitality is a hallmark. The friendly staff will greet you upon arrival and enthusiastically guide you through a tasting of their Old World varietal wines.

2324 CA-46, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(866) 833-9463

The Story: The Stoller family founded Sunridge Nurseries in 1977 with the goal of producing the finest grape stock in the world. They developed exclusive relationships with French, Portuguese and Spanish institutions to import certified wine grape selections that can be traced back to the Old World. Many of these vines were sold to winegrowers around the world. Fast-forward to 2001 and grandson Craig, along with his wife Nancy, planted a new vineyard in the Templeton Gap District of Paso Robles using French wine grape clones. While they continue to operate Sunridge Nurseries, in 2004 they also began to produce their own line of wines under the Sextant label .

5 Wineriers To Visit in Southern Paso Robles - Sextant

The Wines: Sextant specializes in powerful Zinfandel and Petite Sirah blends. They are devoted to making Old World varietal wines by making the most of the Central Coast terroir. Grapes are grown to optimal maturity for unique wines of the highest quality. And you’ll find everything from a Grenache Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon as well as both Bordeaux and Rhône blends.

Winetraveler Tip: Try Sextant’s Caladoc, a grape hybrid of Grenache and Malbec sourced from the estate vineyard in the El Pomar District of Paso Robles. Sextant is the first winery to import and certify these vines in the United States. The best traits of Grenache and Malbec are combined for characteristics of raspberries, red currants and strawberries as well as blackberries, cedar, sweet tobacco, dried herbs and black tea. Wowza!

Winetravler Bonus Tip: If you’re not following the one-day itinerary and are going the more leisurely route, reserve a private sit-down tasting. It’s a personalized experience featuring a selection of the current release and library vintages in a unique cellar setting.

Now back on the road for this marathon of a tasting day we’re heading two minutes north up 46 West to Castoro Cellars for a 3:45 to 4:15 arrival. This lovely establishment is where you will end your day.

Castoro Cellars Vineyards & Winery

1315 N Bethel Rd, Templeton, CA 93465

(805) 238-0725

Fortunately for us, Castoro Cellars is one of the few wineries open until 5:30. This allows you a few options for tasting. Now, if you arrive before 4 p.m. and feel like having a little fun and sporting adventure, you can check in at the tasting room for a round of Disc Golf – in the vineyard! In fact, it’s a full 18-hole course. How unique is that! The course is open until 5 p.m. After which you can head back into the tasting room for your wines.

The Story: Castoro Cellars was established in 1983 by husband and wife Niels and Bimmer Udsen. One of the first 15 bonded wineries in the region, Castoro Cellars is 100% estate grown on 13 vineyards across 1,400 acres. Four of the vineyards, including the winery are within the Templeton Gap District, while the nine others are found in the Estrella District. The vineyards are SIP Certified, farmed organically and feature 125 acres of biodynamically farmed vines. Stewards of the land in all that they do, Castoro Cellars also has solar panels throughout the vineyards which power both the tasting room and winery. And interestingly, the winery’s resident winemaker — Tom Myers — made his first vintage at Castoro in 1978 and today is one of the longest-standing winemakers in Paso Robles.

The Wines: Castoro Cellars grows around 28 grape varieties of which about 75% are red wine grapes. The variety of wines offered is extensive from Bordeaux and Rhône blends to single varietals including Albariño and Zinfandel. The winery is best known for its Zinfandel (which is only 8% of the vineyard), Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends.

Winetraveler Tip: Again, if you’re winetasting on a more laidback schedule and have an interest in spirits, Niels and Bimmer’s children are spearheading the family’s Bethell Road Distillery & Winery across the road. Here, you’ll find handcrafted Grappa, Brandy, Gin and a few small-batch, artisanal wines.

2777 Hidden Mountain Rd, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 226-5460

The Story: In the heart of California’s Central Coast lies the breathtaking DAOU Vineyards & Winery, a family-owned gem nestled atop DAOU Mountain in Paso Robles’ Adelaida District. Founded by brothers Georges and Daniel Daou, the winery is a testament to their love for fine wine and a tribute to their father, who instilled in them a passion for excellence. Combining their backgrounds in engineering and winemaking, the Daou brothers have built a legacy that highlights the unique terroir of the region, crafting world-class wines that rival those of Bordeaux.

The Wines: DAOU Vineyards & Winery is dedicated to producing exquisite, food-friendly wines that showcase the exceptional qualities of their estate-grown grapes. The winery is renowned for its Bordeaux-style wines, particularly its flagship Cabernet Sauvignon, which embodies the unique flavors and character of the Paso Robles terroir. In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon, DAOU offers a range of elegant wines, including Bordeaux blends, Rhône varieties, and a delightful rosé, each crafted with precision and finesse.

Winetraveler Tip: While visiting DAOU Vineyards & Winery, don’t miss the chance to indulge in their exquisite culinary experience, which pairs the estate’s outstanding wines with a seasonal menu of farm-to-table dishes. Take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the vineyards and rolling hills as you enjoy a truly memorable and immersive wine tasting journey.

More Top Paso Robles Wineries

In sitting down to write this piece, it was difficult to decide how to break down the individual producers. If you have been following along on Winetraveler’s Paso Robles wine adventures, you know this was a very busy trip researching places to stay, where to eat and things to do in Paso Robles , and as promised it’s now time to highlight a few more must-visit wineries. Each one is unique, and every stop demonstrated the hospitality, passion and distinctively varied terroir of Paso Robles. So, my Paso Robles winery recommendations will be broken out simply by geography.

I say “a few wineries” because with more than 40,000 vineyard acres across the Paso Robles region and over 200 bonded wineries (some estimates have the number of wineries closer to 300 now), in our five-day exploration we barely scraped the surface. That said, we did cover a range of options from large producers to small production wineries, and from those that specialize in Bordeaux varietals to those making Rhône-style wines.

I highly recommend perusing each winery’s directory listing page (you can also click on each link below) for more in-depth information and I don’t recommend visiting more than two to three wineries per day. This will give you the opportunity to enjoy your tastings, but also to have the option of relaxing with a glass of wine overlooking the stunning views, geeking out with a winemaker over viticultural management, or exploring potentially haunted caves .

Paso Robles truly has something to offer everyone regardless of how you travel, who you travel with, or even what kind of wine you’re hoping to find. It’s all represented here.

6169 Airport Rd, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 239-8900

The Story: For two generations the Lohr family have been leaders in winegrowing on California’s Central Coast at J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines . Jerry Lohr planted the vines in Paso Robles in 1987 and quickly demonstrated an instinct for matching crop with soils and climate. Today, he and his three children — Steve, Cynthia and Lawrence — work closely with their father in every aspect of the family business from Monterey and Napa to Paso Robles. They have also assembled a winemaking team as knowledgeable and passionate about vineyard potential as themselves, and which has been with the winery for more than three decades.

J Lohr Winery in East Paso Robles

The wines: J. Lohr wines are crafted to be food-friendly, balanced, and flavorful. The Estate line represents the best of each vintage and the ability to source from various estate properties allows for blending the best grapes for the most balanced wines. The Vineyard Series wines are limited-release wines showcasing the highest caliber fruit from select vineyards and offer a true sense of place through the wine. The Cuvée Series are prized Bordeaux-style wines with blends cultivated solely from J. Lohr’s Paso Robles vineyards. Each release reflects the vintage, site and heritage.

Winetraveler Tip: Have a little fun at your tasting and see if you can guess which of the Cuvée wines is reflective of Bordeaux’s right and left banks and if it matches your usual preference!

3810 CA-46, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 238-9607

The Story: Eberle Winery is one of the OG wineries in Paso Robles and a family-owned producer of single varieties since 1979. Founder, Gary Eberle, grew up in Pennsylvania and went to Penn State on a football scholarship. After graduating with a BS in biology, he attended Louisiana State University where he continued his graduate work studying cellular genetics. While attending LSU, Gary developed an appreciation for wine and much to the surprise of those that knew him, changed his academic path to become a winemaker. He then received a degree in Enology at UC Davis and launched his career as the “Pioneer” of the Paso Robles Wine Region by helping to establish his family’s Estrella River Winery & Vineyards in the early 1970s. By the late 70’s, he had ventured out on his own and acquired nearly 64 acres down the road. It was here he first debuted his first Eberle wine, the 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Since then, he co-founded the Paso Robles Appellation in 1983, was the first to use Paso Robles appellation on his wine label and was also the first to produce a 100% Syrah. Gary has also earned awards including the 2015 Wine Industry Lifetime Achievement award and most recently was honored with the 2019 Robert Mondavi Hospitality Award. Today, if you visit the tasting room, you’ll likely find Gary sitting outside welcoming visitors with his renowned humor and hospitality.

The wines: You’ll find an array of single varietal wines including Viognier, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Barbera, and more.

Winetravler Tip: Make sure to take the free cave tour to see view the extensive cave system built by Gary Eberle. Or better yet, reserve a VIP tasting and cheese pairing in your own private space in the caves.

Cass Winery

7350 Linne Rd, Paso Robles, CA 93446

(805) 239-1730

The Story: After 20 years at Charles Schwab, Steve Cass left the corporate life for winemaking. In 2000 he helped to establish the Cass vineyard as one of the first California vineyards to be entirely planted with ENTAV-certified clones from France. In 2005, Cass co-established the winery with Ted Plemons, and today the Cass family produces 10,000 cases of 100% estate wines annually. Although Cass is considered a Rhône house, over half the vineyard is planted in Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cass Estate Vineyard — located in the Geneseo AVA southeast of the town of Paso Robles — exemplifies the quality of the Paso Robles region with its warm days, cool coastal breezes and exceptional soils.

Cass Winery in East Paso Robles

The wines:   Cass Winery produces wines that express their varietal nature and the Cass estate vineyards from which they are sourced. The wines are typically lighter in color and body, but more complex in flavors and nuances, reflective of an ‘Old World’ style. As for varieties, you’ll find Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Roussanne, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Marsanne, Merlot and Malbec either as single varietals or blends.

Winetraveler tip: If you want to stay in one of the more unique wine country accommodations, Cass Winery’s new bed and breakfast experience will soon offer guest quarters made of shipping containers!

Chateau Margene

4385 La Panza Rd, Creston, CA 93432

(805) 238-2321

The story: Michael Mooney’s family history in California dates back seven generations, five in the Central Coast. His forefather, Ignacio Linares, was a soldier on the Juan Bautista de Anza Expedition into California in 1775. Ignacio’s grandson, Victor Linares was granted a Mexican Land Grant in San Luis Obispo County, by then Governor Juan B. Alvarado, for Rancho Canada de Los Osos in 1842. After California became a state, it set up a land commission to settle private land claims and unfortunately, Linares lost his property to the English-speaking settlers. Generations later, Michael Mooney and has wife decided to launch Chateau Margene in San Luis Obispo county where his forefathers settled and since 1998, Michael and Margene Mooney have been planting vines and producing wine in the Creston District AVA. Their first wine was their 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon and their goal today remains to produce exceptional Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon wines at small production levels available direct to the consumer.

Grapes at Chateau Margene Winery in Paso Robles

The wines: The vineyard was re-planted in 2015 and 2016 with a total of nine acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot & a small lot of Sangiovese (for their Super Tuscan-style blend Cielo Rosso).   Farming practices are organic and sustainable with the family doing most of the work on-site.

Winetraveler Tip: If viticulture and winemaking are your jam, make a private appointment to visit Michael. He will walk you through the vineyards and cellar and answer any and every question you might possibly have – he’s both knowledgeable and passionate and it shows!

22720 El Camino Real, Santa Margarita, CA 93453

(805) 365-7045

The Story: Ancient Peaks Winery and Margarita Vineyard are owned by three winegrowing and ranching families. Two generations of each family are actively involved in the daily operations of both the vineyard and winery. Ancient Peaks Winery and vineyards sit along the southern border of the Paso Robles wine country in Santa Margarita. The Margarita Vineyard is the only one located in the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA and is distinguished by one of the coolest, longest growing seasons in the Paso Robles region. It also features a rare diversity of soil types—a testament to the tectonic friction that created the surrounding Santa Lucia mountain peaks – including ancient seabed fossils, alluvial and volcanic deposits, shale and granite.

The View from Ancient Peaks Winery in Paso Robles

Ancient Peaks is also known for its numerous sustainable viticultural practices including sourcing water rotationally and only from the property, deficit irrigation, natural cover crops, wildlife corridors with the promotion of natural predators and the use of compost tea in place of synthetic fertilizers. The vineyard is SIP Certified by the Central Coast Vineyard Team, a non-profit group promoting sustainable wine growing.

The Wines: The wines are crafted by Mike Sinor and one of the highest-rated winemakers of the Central Coast, Stewart Cameron. The Estate wines feature both single varietals and blends including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. The limited-edition Pearl Collection wines are derived from small lots of the highest-quality grapes and expressed through unconventional blends including Petit Verdot, Malbec and Petit Sirah.

Winetravler Tip: Feeling adventurous? Join Ancient Peaks for a ziplining adventure over the vineyards followed by a tasting and lunch at the winery. It’s an experience the whole family can enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions about Paso Robles Wineries

What is the most famous winery in paso robles.

While it’s difficult to pinpoint a single “most famous” winery in Paso Robles, as there are many well-regarded establishments, one standout winery is the DAOU Vineyards & Winery. Situated atop the picturesque DAOU Mountain in the Adelaida District, the winery is owned by two brothers, Georges and Daniel Daou. DAOU Vineyards & Winery is renowned for its exceptional Bordeaux-style wines, particularly its Cabernet Sauvignon, which showcases the unique terroir of the region. In addition to its high-quality wines, visitors to DAOU Vineyards & Winery can enjoy stunning panoramic views, a luxurious tasting room, and a refined culinary experience.

How many wineries are in Paso Robles?

Paso Robles, a thriving wine region located in California’s Central Coast, is home to over 200 wineries that span across its diverse landscape. The region’s unique combination of terroir, climate, and topography creates an ideal environment for producing a wide variety of wines.

What wines and grapes is Paso Robles known for?

With over 40 different grape varieties grown in the area, Paso Robles offers a rich and diverse wine portfolio that caters to all palates. The region is particularly known for its robust red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, and Rhône blends. However, Paso Robles also produces excellent white wines, including Chardonnay, Viognier, and Roussanne, among others. As you explore the wineries of Paso Robles, you’ll discover everything from boutique family-owned vineyards to larger, more established estates, each with its own unique charm and character.

What is the best time of year to visit Paso Robles wineries?

The best time to visit Paso Robles wineries depends on your personal preferences, but generally, spring and fall are considered the most popular and ideal seasons for wine tasting in the region. Spring (March to May): During spring, the vineyards come to life with vibrant green foliage and blooming wildflowers, creating a picturesque backdrop for wine tasting. The weather is usually mild and pleasant, with comfortable temperatures perfect for enjoying outdoor activities. Spring is also when many wineries release their new vintages, offering visitors a chance to be among the first to taste the latest wines. Fall (September to November): Fall is harvest season in Paso Robles, and the vineyards are bustling with activity as grapes are picked and transformed into wine. The autumn colors add a warm, golden hue to the landscape, making it an attractive time to visit. Temperatures are generally mild during the day, though evenings can be cooler, so it’s a good idea to bring layers. Fall also brings a variety of harvest-related events and celebrations, providing visitors with unique opportunities to experience the winemaking process up close. While summer and winter are less popular due to hotter temperatures and potential rain, respectively, you can still enjoy wine tasting during these seasons. Keep in mind that summer weekends can be busier, and some wineries may have more limited hours during the winter months. No matter when you choose to visit, Paso Robles wineries offer a memorable experience year-round.

Are reservations required for wine tastings at Paso Robles wineries?

Reservation requirements for wine tastings at Paso Robles wineries can vary depending on the specific winery and the time of year. Some wineries may accept walk-ins, while others may require reservations, especially for larger groups or for special tastings and experiences. Making a reservation, even if it’s not mandatory, can be beneficial. It ensures you have a spot at the winery and can help you plan your wine tasting itinerary more effectively. Additionally, a reservation can offer a more personalized experience and access to exclusive tastings or winery tours that may not be available to walk-in guests.

What other activities or attractions are available in Paso Robles besides wine tasting?

Paso Robles offers a variety of activities and attractions beyond wine tasting, making it an ideal destination for a well-rounded vacation. History buffs can explore the rich heritage of the area through attractions like the historic Mission San Miguel Arcángel, the Estrella Warbirds Museum, and the Paso Robles Pioneer Museum. Finally, the region hosts various events and festivals throughout the year, celebrating everything from wine and food to art and music, ensuring that there’s always something exciting happening in Paso Robles.

Unforgetable wine experiences

Tasting experiences are defined by tiers: Diamond and Elite.  Diamond is basic tasting- quality/price and special experiences expand from there into Elite experiences. Please do: MIX And MATCH!

All tours are tailored to your wine and experience preferences.  feel free to take advantage of my encyclopedic knowledge of our region gathered over 17 years of touring on the central coast., inside the unique and boutique: knowledge is power.

I’ve been at this for 17 years and over 2,000 wine tours. By forging great relationships with the people behind the wine, I’ve steadily built a broad swath of stellar wine experiences. I listen to what you like, and build a fantastic day for you utilizing my vast knowledge and winery relationships. No agenda here.

Experiences are defined by Diamond and Elite. Reservations are required for tour company clients at all wineries.

Simply said, Diamond is the regular seated tasting wineries offer post-CoVid (almost all tastings are seated these days). There’s a ton of diverse experiences under this umbrella- from lunch & taste to barrel tastings, winemaker one-on-ones with tastings costing $30 or less per person.

Elite tastings represent the top tier of winery experiences in this region. These kinds of experiences happen at higher end wineries, often based around reserve, library or club wines and include either paired epicurean bites or a charcuterie/cheese board. They cost more, and tend to run longer. Decidedly a bit more exclusive than regular tastings.

But don’t worry- there are plenty of choices! We’ve got over 430 wineries to choose from in San Luis Obispo County alone. A repeat client of mine owns a bottle label printing company, so I’m pretty confident about that statistic. Let the planning begin!

When you visit Paso Robles to explore many of the amazing wineries in the area, check out Third Wheel Tours for a truly unique experience. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time last week with JD (the owner) as he give us a VIP tour through the Cass vineyards. Many of the tours include several other wineries in the vicinity, so I would highly recommend checking out this opportunity, as it is super-unique, and I bet you've never ridden in a sidecar before!

Decided to book a tour with Third Wheel Tours for my husband's birthday and we had a blast. The tour guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The ride was amazing with beautiful views. The wine was also delicious and the food was a pleasant end to our tour. They took all of our photos and videos which allowed us to be present in the moment and still share on our social media platforms. If you'd like to experience something new Third Wheel Tours is a must!

What a cool way to experience Paso Robles. I took my girlfriend on the “Wine after hours” tour and she couldn’t be more happy. Our tour guide, Isaac, was super friendly and made us feel safe. We experienced a great ride, great wine, and a private sunset picnic to finish off our night. Highly recommended for a date night or just a night out with friends and family!

I’ve visited wineries across beautiful California. Our sidecar experience with Third Wheel Tours last weekend was by far my favorite way to enjoy wine tasting! Jaydy took me and my boyfriend around Cass Winery in Paso Robles, my first time riding in a sidecar. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but the sidecar was surprisingly comfortable. One thing that really sets Third Wheel Tours apart from traditional wine tasting is that it felt like a conversation with an engaging wine guide/driver, not a rehearsed presentation at a counter. Also, the tour company put a lot of thought into details. The drivers’ sharp outfits, food accompaniments, and short detours off the main path make for the perfect date. Five stars, highly recommend!

This was our first experience with Third Wheel Tours & it was amazing! Jaydy went above and beyond! He helped my now fiancé pull of the surprise of a lifetime. We were so happy to have Jaydy as our tour guide for this special moment. He went along with their plan for the surprise proposal and I had no clue! After the proposal, Jaydy drove us along the most beautiful parts of the vineyard during our tasting. He was informative & so friendly! We can’t wait to go back!

What an experience this was! Thank you Jd, Gustavo and Isaac you exceeded our expectations. You guys were entertaining, informative and enjoyable to have around in showing us how beautiful Paso Robles really is! Can't wait to come thru again and take a ride with you all again! Highly recommend when you are visiting Paso Robles!

What an unforgettable experience! Located smack dab in Paso Robles Wine Country. JD and the rest of the team drive you in a sidecar in between vineyards and backroads with stellar views of nature while giving you information about the area. This is great for partners, small groups or even solo trips, you know a little treat yo self day. Check out their websites for all the packages they offer and see what fits your vibe. The memories you create through this one of a kind escapade is well worth it. A bucket list worthy adventure!

Our afternoon with Third Wheel Tours was so so fun! We have wine tasted in the Paso Robles area many times before and this was the BEST! The wine tasting experience was definitely enhanced by the crazy fun rides through the vineyards. The guides were entertaining and so nice. They were flexible and accommodating in every way. We often entertain out of town guests and definitely plan to revisit this experience! Just terrific-we left laughing!

From the moment we walked up to meet JD & Gustavo! They were polite, helpful, well dressed and extremely professional. Not to mention beautiful side cars and helmets for us to wear. Everything looked brand new! We took our whole family on the tour during our 10 year Anniversary trip down to Pismo & Paso ;) The wine was amazing, the vineyards were picturesque and extremely beautiful! Needless to say we had a wonderful time and can’t wait to come back for another ride with third wheel tours! Oh and we are wine members of Cass now so we will definitely be back! 10 out 10! Highly recommend doing this! Worth every penny!

This is such a fun experience to do in the Central Coast. I did the after-hours tour of the vineyard with some girlfriends, and we had a blast. We ended our experience with a fun picnic amongst the vines. JD is so attentive to details and is a great host. I highly recommend this when you are visiting the area for date nights, time with friends, and bachelorette parties.

Third Wheel Tours is such a fun and unique experience! Not only are they do they make sure you have an absolute blast and keep the upbeat vibe going, they also provide experiences like Surprise Engagements with photography and picnic flower set up!!! If you’re looking for a unique way to pop the question, this is it. The team is fun and knowledgeable about Paso Robles if you’re looking for experiences after the ride as well. An absolute must book when visiting in Paso Robles!

Big shout out to Jaydy for the fun and beautiful afternoon with my kiddos in tow. Jaydy gave us a fun spin around Cass Winery with a mini tour of the property and explaining all that Third Wheel Tours has to offer. Highly highly recommend! They have a heartfelt drive to cater experiences for all, offering many tour options from couples to groups, each packed with fun entertainment and adventure or relaxation and luxury. Thank you Third Wheel Tours!

Booked a tasting to celebrate my moms birthday, Jaydy was our tour guide & he was amazing! He was so informative of the vineyards & made our tasting so much fun! my mom could not stop talking about how much fun she had :) I definitely recommend this tour if you are out in Paso!

I had the most amazing experience with Third Wheel Tours and I can't recommend them enough. The team went above and beyond my expectations. First of all, watching a vineyard sunset while on a sidecar is EPIC enough, but imagine also riding the sidecar through the vines into to a romantic hidden location! Plus there is wine, charcuterie, and card games when you get there! #win It is ABSOLUTELY magical! Bring a loved one or your friends for a truly unforgettable evening.

Such a fun and unique way to go wine tasting! I've been going to Paso every year for 7 years now and this was something new and exciting that I might have to start doing when I come from now on! Thank you Third Wheel Tours for such an awesome experience! You will for sure see me again!

So much fun. JD and Phil were top notch and made the experience so personalized. We already rebooked them in a month when we return. So much fun and so highly recommended. Thanks Third Wheel Tours!

Absolutely loved everything about this tour! Great customer service, got more than what we expected and just had an all-around great time! First stop was to Still Waters, which we fell in love with, and will certainly be coming back to, then came back to Cass winery. Felt like we did more than two hours of touring and can't wait to do it again! Our driver, Phil and owner JD were just fantastic and great third wheels lol! Can't wait to share this experience with our friends and family.

Omg can not say enough, JD and Issac where so amazing on our tour so much information, Jd captured all of our moments on this tour they where so patient with us when asking to take a bunch of pictures and videos I just can not say enough highly recommend they are amazing!!!!!! A MUST DO IN PASO ROBLES!!!!

JD and Mark with Third Wheel Tours are absolutely amazing! The tour was very thought out, educational and most importantly so much fun! This is an experience that you don’t get anywhere else, not to mention they are located at the amazing Cass Winery! I highly recommend this tour to anyone that’s going to be in the Paso Robles area!

My husband and I are members at Cass and have seen the Third Wheel Tours cruisin’ around a few times and we FINALLY booked a tour! Not only did we get to enjoy the wonderful wine produced by Cass Winery, but we also got to tour the vineyards and learn even more about the winery. Our host, JD was so informative not only about the sidecars and wine, but Paso in general. He was so engaging, which was my favorite part! This tour is definitely one I would recommend to all my friends and family! 10/10

Just experienced an incredible one of a kind custom motorcycle sidecar vineyard tour of Cass Winery ! The ride was interactive with multiple stops so you could absorb all of Paso’s gorgeous scenery, wine taste and learn fun facts about the vineyards and its wildlife who call the vineyard home !! Owner JD was super friendly, knowledgeable & accommodating !! You need to add this 5 ⭐️ adventure to your Paso wine tour bucket list !!

I had the pleasure of riding with Issac. He was a gem. We got to learn about the property at Cass, and Issac helped me feel safe, secure, and entertained. Did I mention the wine kept pouring? #roseallday I definitely plan on doing this experience again. What a unique way to taste wine! If you're on the border of deciding whether or not you want to book, just book. Jaydy, the owner, had the best customer service and made sure we had a good time.

If you’re in Paso, you must book this experience with these guys. They work so hard and it shows! They are so kind, attentive and great company. Can’t wait for my next tour with them!

I highly recommend Third Wheel Tours. My girlfriend won a wine tour experience through them and due to the rain it got rescheduled on the date I already had planned to propose to my Fiancé. I contacted them secretly and they helped me plan the perfect proposal. They gave me all the information I needed and made it the perfect day. I can’t thank them enough for helping make that day and my proposal something I will never forget. My fiancé and I both loved it and we would totally do it again! My Fiancé and I will always remember that our journey to being married started with Third Wheel Tours! Worth way more than 5 stars!! Highly recommend! You won’t be disappointed!

Third Wheel Tours is a fantastic opportunity to see Paso Robles wine country, whether you're a tourist or a local. Riding in a sidecar gives you a different perspective of the vineyards than you would in a regular car. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. They have an excellent attention to detail and service. I would highly recommend booking a tour. This is an unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression.

One of the greatest experiences of my life! This is definitely a “must do!” From touring the beautiful vineyards of Paso Robles, visiting old haunted hotels, cruising through beautiful made-for-movies-wineries, Third Wheel Tours delivers! Our hosts were super historians, knowledgeable, and made us feel like we had known them forever. Great thing to do for a date or bring the whole family! I want to do this at least twice a year! I highly recommend this when visiting the central coast. And afterwards we ate at the CASS Winery! Amazingly delicious food. And you get a deal on the bill for taking the 3rd Wheel Tour! What more can you ask for?!

What an AMAZING TIME! Of all the times in my life I've been the third wheel... this one was definitely the most enjoyable. Jaydy is an amazing host and tour guide. We were literally giddy with giggles laughing our way through Cass Winery. The entire experience is both unique and an absolute must! Thank you Jaydy for such a fun day!

What a wonderful experience we had! Third Wheel Tours takes wine tasting to another level! The wine country after hours tour took us through the vineyard and then to the cutest picnic set up in the middle of the most picturesque area! So peaceful and relaxing! Highly recommend adding this to your “must do” list! I know I will be telling our Hotel SLO guests about this!

Issac was an amazing driver and host! He drove us through Cass Winery/Vineyard and was especially knowledgeable with the vines/grapes/history of the winery. One of the very special parts of Paso is to see the grounds and see where the grapes grow, and the ride was picturesque, beautiful, and a perfect way to spend my Friday afternoon! Definitely gave me a new appreciation for Wine Country. Third Wheel Tours offers a couple different options of tours, and there are choices to curate the perfect itinerary for any occasion. Taste of Cass Experience was awesome—and it’s even cooler there are partner wineries you can visit as well (such as Sculpterra and Rava). Will definitely need to visit again to try to “Wine Country After Hours”

Great experience! The driver was knowledgeable, kind, and extremely accommodating. We got to enjoy nature, learn about wine propagation and grafting, and found out all about the different grapes and climates. We opted for the picnic tour and it was so enjoyable. We are two friends that have known one another 30 years and we thought the picnic setting would have been a great proposal setting if our husbands had a chance to do it all over again! We played the card game under an old oak tree and managed to learn even more about each other! There was a quaint swing, comfortable cushions and a nice charcuterie board for our enjoyment. Of course the wine was paired perfectly with the snacks! All together, this was a great adventure around the vineyard and we can’t wait to bring our husbands back to relive the experience! Don’t question Third Wheel Tours. Just jump in and enjoy it! You’ll be glad you did!

Definitely the BEST way to wine taste and tour a vineyard! Isaac was super knowledgeable about everything on the property. I can't wait to come back with a group and enjoy lunch on the patio. This is a must do when you're visiting wine country.

Third Wheel Tours is truly first-class! From sidecars - to drivers - to owners there is attention to detail, courtesy, wine knowledge and fun! We love seeing Third Wheel motorcycles come up our driveway - they bring with them the most adventurous and joyful clients!

Jaydy and his friendly compañero drove us in their sidecars through the back roads of the wine country in Paso Robles. This tour was delightful, w orange light shining on the vines, wind in our hair, they stopped in multiple fields and on small roads to tell us about local farms, and set up a charcuterie board and picnic for us to relax in while the sun went down. It was an unforgettable evening, I’d recommend this tour to anyone looking for a little adventure and personal tour of the wine country.

Amazing experience!! 10/10 recommend! My friends and I had the best time on our tour. Our drivers were so friendly and knowledgeable, the views were breathtaking, and the overall experience was incredibly unique. This is a must-do activity if you are visiting Paso Robles.

Such an incredible experience to wine taste on the beautiful central coast in the coolest motorcycle sidecar! Third Wheel Tours has hit the nail on the head with this *must do experience!! Jaydy was not only a fabulous driver, he was well versed in all that the wineries had to offer and gave us such an enriching and memorable tour that we will never forget!!! We enjoyed every minute of the trip and can’t wait to do it again!!!

One of the unique and wonderful experiences in Paso Robles. JD (one of the owners of this company) is very friendly and accommodative. We would highly recommend this tour to our friends and family!

Third Wheels Tours is incredible!! Jaydy is super knowledgable and creates such a fun tour. He dove into a little bit of everything too. He knew that we were interested in the history and culture of the area AND photography so he catered the tour to us. This was such a stellar tour, I can't wait to take another tour!!

Top 10 Wineries to Visit in Paso Robles

1. l'aventure winery.

top paso robles winery L'aventure

The feeling of serenity only increases when you reach the vineyard. A large barn is the centerpiece of the grounds. A sleek tasting room, wine cave, and administrative office bring a nice modern counterpoint to the barn. A generous patio in front of the tasting room offers the perfect spot to enjoy these world-class wines under the bright blue Paso sky.

You can also experience wine tastings in the manmade cave behind the tasting room. This is a great option for wine lovers who want to better understand the winemaking process. You get a tour of the caves and the production facilities while learning the history of L'Aventure from your guide.

How did a Frenchman with deep roots in the French wine industry end up on the central coast of California? Stephan rebelled against the stifling regulations of the French wine industry. He felt he could do more by introducing new varietals in his blends. We think he was right to fight for his right to be more creative. Wine tasters are rewarded because of Stephan's stubbornness. His wonderful 2013 Estate Cuvee is a blend of Syrah, Cab and Petit Verdot.

2. Epoch Estate Wines

The tasting room of Epoch Estate Wines is definitely off the beaten path. It is about as far west as you can get in Paso Robles wine country. A winding road through the thickly wooded countryside brings you to their beautifully designed tasting room. The juxtaposition of the modern concrete structure and the rolling hills, oak trees, and fields that surround it is striking. A welcoming patio area greats you as approach the tasting room. The Adirondack chairs beckon you to sit and relax with your glass of wine.

Inside, the beautifully designed tasting room is an oasis of calm. There is plenty of room to spread out and enjoy intimate tastings with the delightful Epoch Estate's wine experts.

Epoch is the creation of Liz and Bill Armstrong. They own several Paso Robles vineyards and produce world-class wines using Rhone Varietals, Zinfandel, and Tempranillo. A transformed York Mountain Winery is their base and the location of the lovely tasting room.

Don't let the drive discourage you. The beauty of the winery and the quality of the wine make it worth the trip. You will want to be sure to make your reservations in advance . It's no fun to drive all the way out to Epoch only to find out you can't taste.

3. Clos Solene

best paso robles winery for wine tasting experience

The tasting room, located behind their residence, is tastefully decorated and welcoming. There is a rural sophistication here that feels refined without being fussy. You can't help but feel the strong connection to France and the French wine industry.

There are a range of tasting options and "experiences" that you can choose from when you make your reservation. Some will bring you out into the vineyard. These tend to be the most memorable as you learn from the owner/winemakers how they turn the legendary Paso Robles soils into some of the best wines in California.

4. Eberle Winery

eberle winery wild boar

Situated on a small hill above Route 46 on the east side of Paso Robles. Eberle features beautiful grounds and an amazing wine cave. Even with the easy access from the highway, The winery layout makes you feel like you are at a secluded vineyard deep in wine country.

Play bocce, sip wine on the expansive deck overlooking the vineyard, or enjoy the lively tasting room. The cave tours are a must and you can even schedule a private tasting and food pairing in an exclusive corner of the cave. Wine tastings and the cave tour are complimentary for groups under 10.

The owner has a big personality and this is matched by his wines. If not for a bad knee, Gary Eberle may not have become a wine pioneer in Paso Robles. He was headed for a career in the NFL before it was cut short. Notice the boar sculptures and imagery throughout the winery. Gary's last name Eberle roughly translates into strong boar.

5. Halter Ranch

halter ranch winery

You can choose from a few different tasting and tour options. The tastings are seated and last 90 minutes. You can select either a Ranch flight or a Silver Label Reserve flight.

You can also reserve the Defender Picnic & Pairing for $200 per person. This is a three-hour event. You start with a driving tour of the vineyards in a classic Land Rover Defender. At the highest point on the property, you stop for a tasting of their reserve wines. The tour continues to their pond, restaurant, and historic 700-year-old Ancestor Tree where you can sample their delicious Ancestor wine. Each stop on the journey includes a wine and cheese pairing.

The beautiful grounds and top-quality wine make this one of the best Paso Robles wineries to visit.

6. Daou Vineyards

daou vineyards and winery view of paso from chairs made of wine barrels

Daou offers visitors a uniquely beautiful hilltop spot. Here they can enjoy award-winning Daou wines expertly paired with a gourmet meal or in a tasting flight.

The views are reason enough to visit this Cab powerhouse, but the wine is what brings people back. The Daou family brings a unique history to the Paso wine scene. The brothers Daou are tech entrepreneurs, but they have devoted themselves to mastering the art of winemaking and hospitality.

A visit to Daou will confirm they are well on their way.

7. Jada Vineyard and Winery

jada tasting room

Sleek and beautiful is how most people describe the tasting room at Jada. With gorgeous views of the rolling Paso Robles vineyards out

the window and just beyond the deck, it's understandable if you want to hang out for a while. Spend your time getting to know the lineup of bold red wines that are making Jada famous. The Jersey Girl is a favorite of many visitors. Make sure you add a cheese pairing to elevate your tasting.

The tasting fee at Jada is $25. You can reserve your tasting in the tasting room, on the deck, or in the Oak Lounge. You can purchase a selection of artisanal cheeses to go along with your tasting.

Jada is in the process of converting its vineyards to biodynamic growing practices. Some of the current releases are from vines that were already converted. See if you can taste the difference.

7. Sculpterra Winery and Sculpture Garden

sculpterra winery garden

This is a truly unique winery. The magnificent wrought iron gate at the entry gives you the first taste of what is to come. After a short drive through vineyards, you are greeted by the sculptures the winery gets its name from. There are a number of artists whose works are on display throughout the gardens and in the tasting room.

The sculptures are set in beautiful gardens that surround the building housing the tasting room. The gardens include a demonstration vineyard and a stage set around a large oak tree that is used for events.

Make sure to try the excellent Rhone Style and Bordeaux blends when you visit.

8. Le Cuvier

Le Cuvier Winery Paso Robles

Grab a glass of wine, pull up an Adirondack chair, and survey the

rolling hills of Paso Robles at the Le Cuvier tasting room. This winery seems to have it all. The quality of the wines is unquestioned, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the winery location is beautiful. This quote from the winery owner John Munch gives you a good idea of what this winery is all about:

" There is firm empirical evidence to the effect that yeast and other varied wine pathogens die of boredom unless given an interesting environment within which to practice their art. Thus, at Le Cuvier, we have firmly dedicated ourselves to making life as interesting as possible, while leaving the entire process of winemaking in the hands (so to speak) of the wild beasties. Indeed all human efforts in the effervescent process are evanescent. "

The winery serves small snacks with the tastings and charges $40 per person. You can also choose a more in-depth food and wine pairing called the Entree and Flight experience for $85.

9. Tobin James

tobin james wine tasting room

No winery captures the old west feel of Paso Robles better than Tobin James. The winery was built from the ground up on the location of an old stagecoach stop. The wine tasting room transports you to an old west saloon. The staff pouring the wine is friendly, and knowledgeable and adds to the overall enjoyment of the tasting experience. Tobin James is also legendary for their wine club. The "James Gang", as it is called, is rumored to be the largest wine club in the world.

Tastings are free and there is an extensive list of wines you can taste. Make sure you get a taste of the Blue Moon zin if it's available!

10. Adelaida Cellars

Adelaida winery tasting room

An impressive tasting room, sweeping views of Paso from the hilltop location, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the wine, oh yes, the wine. Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate's thoughts on Adelaida:

Top Paso Robles Wineries From Past Years

Every year we are forced to make tough decisions. The top Paso Robles wineries change. New wineries open, existing wineries step up their game and some of the top wineries slip a little. We keep a record of wineries that made our best of Paso Robles in prior years so you can check them out and decide for yourself if they belong on your list.

j lohr winery photo

(We decided they no longer belong on our list. After a few follow-ups, we never heard back from them about their promise to fix this situation    https://californiawineryadvisor.com/justin-vineyard-development-creates-controversy/ )

justin winery logo

There have been some changes at Justin recently, but it should still be on your list of wineries to visit. Located in a beautiful rustic corner of Paso Robles, the winery features a beautiful tasting room, an Inn, and a restaurant on site. You can hunker down and really get to know the wines or use it as a base to explore the surrounding wineries and vineyards.

[Update] - We were contacted by the owners of Justin Vineyard and Winery regarding their efforts to address the issues they created at the Sleepy Farm Road site. Here is a statement from them:

Working closely with the County, we have completed the Sleepy Farm Road site remediation at a cost of over $5 million. Remediation efforts included stabilizing the site to prevent erosion, filling in the storage pond, and planting 400 trees and 3,500 acorns on site. Discussions with potential partners will continue regarding the ultimate disposition of the property.

We will follow up with the County and provide an update when we can confirm what the folks from Justin as saying.

10 Must-Visit Wineries in the Adelaida District

  • August 26, 2024
  • Hayley Cain

wine tasting tours paso robles

Welcome to the Adelaida District AVA , Westside Paso Robles’ famed growing grounds. Nestled in the rugged embrace of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, the craggy region is one of Paso Robles’ most cherished wine tasting destinations.

This expansive wine grape growing region spans 53,100 acres, with some mountainous vineyards soaring up to 2,200 feet up! Imagine sipping wine from grapes grown at the height of two Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other. Now you’re getting the idea.

As you explore this fascinating American viticultural region (AVA), keep an eye out for white chalky rock and distinctive limestone outcroppings. More than pretty rocks—they’re the secret ingredients to the Adelaida District’s mineral-driven, complex wines. The soil here is a geological wonderland, studded with marine fossils that whisper of ancient seabeds.

But what truly sets Adelaida apart? The unique climate. It’s the wettest of Paso’s 11 viticultural areas, averaging a generous 30 inches of rain per year. Proximity to the Pacific—via the Templeton gap—brings in cooling marine fog. Dramatic shifts between hot days and cool nights create the perfect storm for developing grapes with complex flavors and balanced acidity. Translation: Adelaida District wines are downright exceptional—and considered some of the finest in all of Paso Robles Wine Country.

From Gold Rush to Grape Crush: The Adelaida Story

Before it was known for world-class wines, the Adelaida District was part of California’s Wild West. Picture quicksilver mines, cattle ranches and cowboys wrangling along steep slopes.

In 1973, everything changed. André Tchelistcheff, the “Godfather of California wine,” declared Hoffman Mountain Ranch in the Adelaida District “a jewel of ecological elements.” With those words, Adelaida’s wine future was born.

Over the following decades, pioneering vintners recognized the potential of this unique terroir, transforming the rugged landscape into the premier wine-growing area we know today.

Gary Eberle is renowned for being the first to create a varietal Syrah in the U.S. and the winery has upped its white wine game with the addition of Winemaker Chris Eberle (no relation). This acclaimed wine has a nose of floral jasmine and zesty tangerine notes followed by hints of jackfruit and lychee on the palate.

The deck at Eberle Winery overlooks the Geneseo District with inspiring views of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. Sipping on a Viognier, or any other of the white wines on offer at Eberle while watching the sunset over the mountains is a perfect way to enjoy a chilled glass of Paso Robles white wine.

2. White Rhône Blend

Tablas creek vineyard esprit de tablas blanc.

Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas Blanc is a delicious blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Picpoul Blanc. Roussanne provides the core richness, minerality, and flavors of honey and spice, while Grenache Blanc adds green apple and anise flavors, lush mouthfeel, and bright acids. Picpoul Blanc adds pineapple brightness and saline minerality, Bourboulenc provides limestoney, citrusy lift, and Clairette Blanche brings clean fruitiness and chalky minerality. You can experience this exceptional wine at the Tablas Creek Vineyard tasting room, where the welcoming atmosphere adds to the enjoyment of your visit.

If you’re looking for food to pair with this wine, it goes wonderfully with seafood dishes like fish or grilled scallops. Creamy dishes like a carrot, leek, and potato soup are also a great match. What makes Esprit de Tablas Blanc truly special is the vineyard’s commitment to sustainable farming practices and their focus on Rhône varietals.

Opolo Vineyards Willow Blanc

Opolo Vineyards Willow Blanc is a delightful wine with Viognier and Roussanne.   This eclectic Rhône Style blend from Opolo is made from selections from their finest vineyards. The grapes were crushed and left on skins for an extended period before being pressed, barrel fermented, and sur lie aged in both acacia and French oak barrels. The skin contact and barrel aging contribute both freshness and subtle hints of crème brulee. A wine to be savored!

This wine is a perfect example of the creativity and quality that Paso Robles winemakers are known for.

L’Aventure Estate Cuvée Blanc

L’Aventure Estate Cuvée Blanc is a unique blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Viognier. This wine boasts floral and citrus aromas with a mineral-driven taste, making it a fascinating choice for wine lovers. Stephan’s mission for each vintage is to make a food-friendly white wine that focuses on salinity and minerality.

This wine complements a variety of flavors beautifully, adding a touch of elegance to every meal. The blend of varietals in this wine showcases the creativity and craftsmanship that L’Aventure Winery is known for, offering a taste experience that’s both unique and delightful.

3. Sauvignon Blanc

Graveyard vineyards sauvignon blanc.

Wines from Graveyard Vineyards offer “a little taste of heaven while you’re waiting to get in,” and their Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. It captures the crisp aromas of grapefruit and pineapple. Flavors of mango, lemongrass, and tropical dreams, with a tangerine zest finish, allow you to relax and enjoy the lovely finish.

The tasting room sits on a hilltop, next to a historic 1865 graveyard, and they pride themselves in small production wine with big flavors. This California winery has a very relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful picnic area next to the fishpond. Bring a fishing pole, a picnic, get a bottle of wine, and sit on the dock and enjoy the summer in Paso Robles wine country.

The Kiamie Sauvignon Blanc, crafted from organically farmed fruit on Paso’s West Side, bursts with refreshing notes of melon and white peach. A crisp palate tinged with aromatics like lemongrass and lime culminates in a clean, mineral-laden finish. It is an expression of uncompromising quality.

Crisp, bold, and refreshing, this white wine is versatile and pairs well with a range of flavor profiles such as tart vinaigrettes, fresh summer vegetables like zucchini, and grilled chicken.

4. Vermentino

Paix sur terre vermentino.

The Paix Sur Terre Vermentino is an homage to the greatest white wine of the Mediterranean. Vermentino has a nose of fresh sea spray, lime zest, and perfectly ripe summer melons with tension and minerality akin to great Chablis.  This wine is an incredible textural experience like biting into that perfect summer melon and picnicking by the ocean while fresh grilled fish tacos with lime spritzed over the top awaits. The Paix Sur Terre Vermentino epitomizes Spring and Summer.

Thibido Winery Vermentino

Thibido is a boutique winery making handcrafted wines available exclusively online and shipped directly to you. The Thibido “Second Date” Vermentino offers delightful aromas of citrus zest and a tropical palate in a light straw shade with a bright complexion. A versatile white wine; while delightful on its own, the acidity in the wine makes it a brilliant food pairing partner.

The lush palate and pleasant acid pair nicely with salty seafood dishes like shrimp paella, ceviche, or oysters. This white wine is also capable of standing up to heartier dishes like spicy green curry or herbed lemon chicken with a goat cheese and strawberry salad. Ultimately, it’s the perfect complement to long lunches in good company.

Giornata Vermentino

Vermentino is typically associated with the islands and the area of Tuscany close to the Mediterranean Sea. While it can be made into a rich and full wine, Giornata prefers to pick a bit earlier for a cleaner and crisper style. You can smell melon, lavender, poached pear, key lime, and guava, with a palate of lime zest, pineapple, lemongrass, almond, and pink grapefruit.

They produce a balanced, palate-friendly white wine that’s perfect for Spring and Summer weather and light appetizers. It pairs wonderfully with prosciutto and hard cheese, spring vegetables, and salsa verde.

5. Chardonnay

Dunning vineyards  chardonnay.

Located deep in the Willow Creek District, Dunning Vineyards was established in 1990 by Bob and Jo-Ann Dunning who planted, among other varieties, Chardonnay in the high elevations of their 40-acre property. The Dunning Vineyards Estate Chardonnay takes advantage of the cooler growing environment by exhibiting a more Burgundian style with full barrel fermentation and sur-lees aged. The wine is ripe and creamy with layers of pear, citrus, nutmeg, and mineral flavors.

A chardonnay such as this is perfect for fish lovers who enjoy anything from a lemon-stuffed grilled branzino to a Mediterranean baked halibut with plenty of herbs and savory tomatoes, garlic, and olives that will elevate the fruity qualities of this chardonnay.

Midnight Cellars Chardonnay

The Midnight Cellars Chardonnay

In this wine of pale dandelion hue, a delightful melody of aromas and flavors awaits. Aromas of limoncello and freshly peeled lemon. Upon the palate, indulgent flavors of lemon meringue and golden honey intertwine, leading to a finish kissed by limestone minerality, adding depth and elegance to each sip. This wine is a testament to the beauty of simplicity, offering a refreshing and invigorating experience.

DAOU Vineyards Chardonnay

DAOU Vineyards Chardonnay is a rich and elegant wine with flavors of pineapple, guava, and a touch of oak. It’s a Chardonnay that offers a luxurious tasting experience, perfect for those who enjoy a wine with depth and complexity. DAOU Vineyards provides a picturesque setting to enjoy this wine, located in the beautiful Adelaida District in Paso Robles.

This Chardonnay pairs well with roasted chicken, creamy pasta, and lobster, making it a versatile choice for several different occasions. The winery’s commitment to crafting premium wines is evident in every glass, showcasing the quality and character that Paso Robles is known for.

6. Albariño

Bovino vineyards albariño.

The Bovino Vineyards Albariño is a bright and lively wine with a delicate apple blossom nose, lemon zest, and apricot on the palate. A long finish lends this wine to pair perfectly with the fare of a leisurely Sunday brunch. Sourced from the El Pomar District, its unique expression of Albariño in Paso Robles is something to savor, offering a taste that’s both fresh and invigorating.

Bodega de Edgar Albariño

Bright saline aromas of ocean air, kefir lime leaf, and wet limestone notes introduce a fresh and zippy wine with lean citrus fruit components that give over to an austere minerality. Crushed chalk, wet slate, and lime pith carry throughout the palate, give it an appetizing and palate-cleansing effect. Bodega de Edgar ferments this wine in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to drive the aromatic profile and keep the wine fresh and light on its feet. At roughly 495 cases, this is one of their larger production wines.

Vina Robles Vineyards & Winery Albariño

Albariño flourishes in a Mediterranean climate, which is exactly what most of Paso Robles exhibits. The Vina Robles Huerhuero Vineyard gets plenty of sunshine and takes advantage of the afternoon cooling from the Templeton Gap to allow this thick-skinned grape to ripen at an even pace. With aromas of pear, peach, lemon, and lime, on the palate, you find citrus flavors, some minerality, and a crisp finish.

This wine is the perfect start to your cheese board party. Some funky cheeses, savory meats, salty crunchies, sweet dried fruits, and an Albariño with friends is a recipe for a perfect afternoon.

No matter what your knowledge or experience with wine is, you are worthy of kicking your feet up and enjoying a glass (or bottle) of wine in Paso Robles wine country.

Reviews from Our Guests

  • We got to find some hidden gems! Absolutely would recommend! My husband and I had a great time on our tour! Kristina and Lars had wonderful food and accommodations for us on the van. The van was clean and comfortable. We were very happy with the wineries that were selected for us to visit and we felt that we got the full experience. I was worried that the tour might feel "touristy" or gimmicky, however, this was not the case. Instead, I felt like we got to find some hidden gems that we never would have discovered on our own. Taylor D. Yelp 2/01/2021
  • Fantastic!! We set up a private tour for our large group and Toast Tours was amazing. From start to finish, our experience was so simple just perfect, even during Covid19. Kristina was extremely knowledgable, friendly and she catered to our group. Every stop was on schedule and we just had such a great tour with her. I would 100% recommend Toast Tours (especially for a large group) Kris TripAdvisor 11/16/2020
  • I wish we could give 10 stars to Toast Tours! I agree with the previous reviews that wish they could give 10 stars to Toast Tours! Kristina picked us up on time, allowed us to decorate the bus for my friends birthday and organized reservations at 3 beautiful wineries with great wines. She also provided a dog bed for our furry companion. We had a great time and did not have to worry about anything. Kristina was more knowledgable about the wine then some of the servers. Highly recommend!! Thank you so much Kristina!! -Kelly K. and Itzels Birthday Crew Kelly K. Yelp 10/26/2020

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! With our Private Tours, we’re completely flexible on where the tour goes and what you do.

We can organize a number of itineraries that incorporate not only great local wineries, but also distilleries, breweries, olive oil, farm tours and more!

We can also combine some tasting with a fun activity – such as Zip-Lining in Santa Margarita, a private Hearst Castle experience, kayaking in Morro Bay, horseback riding and so much more!

Get in touch with us to discuss what you’re looking for, and we’ll help build your customized itinerary and perfect day.

All private tours include an itinerary consultation at no extra cost.

During the consultation, we offer guidance on wineries that will be a great fit specifically for your group. We can recommend wineries that will accommodate your group size, offer certain wine styles, have full-kitchens or allow picnics, are dog-friendly, offer tours or any other criteria you might be interested in.

We can also provide recommendations for timing & logistics.

After our consultation you can plan your itinerary and make all the reservations yourself, or I can plan the itinerary and make the reservations on your behalf for an additional $15 per person.

For groups of 6 guests or fewer we will make all winery reservations & plan your itinerary at no extra cost.

Please submit a  Private Tour Quote Request . We’ll check and confirm availability and provide a price quote promptly.

There is no set length of time. Saturdays and holiday weekends tend to fill up faster. Fall is our busiest season, followed closely by Summer.

Get your  Private Tour Quote  now, then book your tour as soon as you decide to go for it.

We are happy to pick you up from your hotel or accommodation anywhere within a 100 mile radius of Paso Robles.

There is an additional fee for pickups over 15 miles from downtown Paso Robles.

If you have a request for pickup outside of San Luis Obispo County, please submit a  Private Tour Quote Request  to determine what is possible.

Your tour cost will be determined by such factors as the tour length, distance traveled, vehicle size, included activities (i.e. Hearst Castle entry, etc.), itinerary planning and the day and season of your tour.

Lunch is an additional expense, as are wine tasting or activity fees. Gratuity is added on at a rate of 18%.

Please note: For a charter or private tour a $200.00 or 20% deposit, whichever is greater, will be charged upon confirmation of the booking. As long as we have not received the deposit, the charter or tour is not confirmed and your requested date will not be held.

Lunch is not automatically included in your private tour, but we can provide you with a variety of lunch options to best suit your group.

When wine tasting, some of our favorite options include enjoying one of the high-quality winery restaurants, or enjoying a picnic lunch at a winery after your tasting.

You’re welcome to bring your own picnic items, or we can provide a delicious deli boxed lunch for $25pp. You can view the menu here .

Tour group sizes often fluctuate. Give us your best guess. We are happy to work with you as best we can to establish a range of likely attendees and price the tour with that range in mind.

Depending on the day of the week and group size the hourly rate may change.

Also, keep in mind that vehicles have a maximum number of seats and wineries often have a maximum group size they allow.

Unfortunately, no.

We really wish we could! But there is no way to provide sufficient insurance in this scenario – and believe us, we’ve tried.

Your personal car insurance will not provide coverage if your car is being driven commercially by one of our drivers. (It is considered commercial the moment money is exchanged for services).

There also isn’t any commercial insurance policy that will cover someone else driving your car commercially.

We do have a general liability policy which covers operations outside of your vehicle, however we feel this is insufficient since there would be no additional coverage, including comprehensive or collision coverage, since your personal policy becomes invalid.

Given this, we don’t feel comfortable putting you or our drivers at risk.

However, we provide tours & transportation in our own fleet of comfortable, spacious & fully-insured private vehicles for all group sizes – so get in touch today to get more information!

Slo cal blog, 24 hours in paso robles, where rolling vineyards meet charming streets, every meal feels like a celebration and the landscape comes alive at night.

Paso Robles, or simply “Paso” as the locals like to call it, is your SLO CAL (San Luis Obispo County) destination for fine dining and unique wine experiences. Its diverse culinary and agricultural scenes make this region every wine and food-lover’s dream. It’s no surprise Paso Robles is where several Michelin starred and featured eateries reside. Paso Robles is also home to many of our SLO CAL Crafted Partners, such as Pasolivo , Spice of Life and Couleur de la vie  (just to name a few), so you know it’s as authentically SLO CAL as it gets.

Step into SLO CAL’s largest wine country and spend your day hoping from one tasting room to the next – see where more than 40 grape varietals are vine-ripened to perfection. Take in views of the many olive and almond orchards which are a testament to Paso Robles’ rich agricultural heritage and relive history experiencing true cowboy culture with a ride in a stagecoach .

Spend the warm, gently breezed evenings with a relaxing stroll through world-renowned art exhibits. With new adventures to be discovered at every corner, the activities here are seemingly endless.

Follow this Paso Robles 24-hour itinerary to truly immerse yourself in the region’s rich culinary scene and natural beauty among the vineyards.

Breakfast: Joe’s Place or AMSTRDM Coffee

Morning activity: downtown and paso market walk, lunch: taste craft eatery, afternoon activity: sidecar wine tasting & tin city, dinner: the hatch, night activity: sensorio, enjoy breakfast like a local at these slo cal favorites.

Start your morning off right on your 1-day Paso Robles Itinerary, and mingle among the locals at Joe’s Place which many claim to be “The Best Breakfast in Town”. Choose from their hearty menu of breakfast classics including omelets, pancakes and more, or owner Joe’s world-famous biscuits and sausage gravy. If you prefer brunch fare, Joe’s Place also offers an extensive menu of burritos, sandwiches, salads, burgers and hot dogs. You’re sure to find something to satisfy everyone’s palate.

If you prefer your breakfast with a buzz, check out AMSTRDM Coffee House & Piano Lounge where you can enjoy a fresh cup of coffee made with one of their signature house-crafted syrups and elevated light bites in a relaxed and artistic atmosphere. If you’re in town on a weekend, be sure to visit sister location Libretto for live Jazz, Blues, Classical and Opera, with world-class performances weekly.

Discover unique gifts and one-of-a-kind art you won’t want to miss

Paso Robles Street

After fueling up at breakfast, head downtown and take a stroll around Downtown City Park where you can shop like a local at the many shops and boutiques. Start on 11 th Street with a visit to House of Mosely where you will find the perfect gifts for any occasion – birthdays, engagement, the holidays, you name it!

Continue to Pine Street where you’ll find Studios on the Park , a must-visit for art lovers. Inside there are six studios home to 15 working artists, four galleries featuring a unique collection of work by local artists and a fine craft and art shop. They frequently host public art classes and workshops, so check their website to see what’s available!

After getting your creativity flowing, turn on to 12 th Street where you’ll be met with  General Store Paso Robles . Here you will discover a little something for everyone. It is full of carefully crafted local goods and provisions for the pantry and home – some of which are made exclusively for them. Head next door for a wardrobe refresh – both  Firefly and Jayde are stylish clothing boutiques where you will find your next favorite outfits. After, be sure to stop at the famous Brown Butter Cookie Company and pick up a box (or three) of their handmade brown butter cookies.

As you wrap up your time shopping, slow down and take a look at the historic Carnegie Library, which today is home to the Paso Robles History Museum that marks the center of downtown. Inside you will find exhibits that showcase the area’s unique history, and docents eager to share their knowledge.

After exploring around Downtown City Park, head to nearby Paso Market Walk and experience a wine blending class with The Blending Lab Winery . Their goal is to make wine approachable for everyone and educate their visitors regardless of their previous wine knowledge. Paso Market Walk has so much to offer – visit The Vreamery for a taste of vegan artisanal cheeses, SLO CAL Crafted Leo Leo Gelato for a sweet treat or Central Coast Bike Rental if you’re looking to explore the town on two wheels.

Customize your perfect meal with a unique dining concept

After a morning full of shopping and wine blending, you’ve undoubtedly worked up an appetite. Visit family-owned and operated Taste! Craft Eatery for a fun and customizable dining experience. Mix and match items off the menu from a wide variety of sliders, macs and salads. Their unique restaurant concept is designed so you don’t have to pick just one item, but choose from two, three or four items to craft your perfect meal. It’s not a true Taste! experience without one of their signature cocktails (or mocktails) to complement your food selections. This is a perfect opportunity to try SLO CAL crafted spirits such as KROBĀR  and Re:Find at their full bar.

Take a ride along the rolling vineyards and sip a cold craft beer

Tin City Paso Robles Entrance showing a group of people walking in

Keep your Paso Robles Itinerary rolling and experience wine tasting like never before with Third Wheel Tours . Choose from one of their tours and enjoy a glass of wine as you take a scenic ride along the vineyards. Their most popular tour includes a ride through the vineyards of Cass Winery in a modern vintage-inspired sidecar with your own private operator and guide.

During the tour you will learn about Paso Robles wine country and get the chance to sample some grapes along the way. Some of their other tours include rides through their partner wineries including Sculpterra Winery , Rasmussen or Bovino Vineyards , before a final tasting at Cass Winery.

After your tour of wine country, head over to Tin City – an industrial hub of over 40 businesses including award-winning wineries, craft breweries, and artisanal distilleries. Many SLO CAL Crafted businesses can be found here including BENOM , Wine Shine Distillery and Negranti Creamery .

Your visit would not be complete without light bites, so be sure to graze on charcuterie and sandwiches made with locally handcrafted cheese at Central Coast Creamery . In Tin City you’ll find a bit of everything for everyone – it’s the place to be for all things SLO CAL wine, beer, spirits and provisions.

Indulge your senses with a Michelin featured dinner

food and cocktails from The Hatch Rotisserie & Bar

After an adventure-filled day, treat yourself to homey dinner at The Hatch Rotisserie & Bar – one of Paso Robles’ Michelin featured restaurants. The Hatch is a cozy, comfortable restaurant powered by wood-fired comfort food, small batch whiskey and a social atmosphere. Their claim to fame are their roasted and rotisserie chickens, but don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the dish – each chicken is masterfully brined and smoky giving steak a run for its money.

Owners Maggie Cameron and Eric Connolly pride themselves in sourcing only the most exceptional ingredients, whether it be California-raised Jidori chicken or Etto Pastifico pasta made right down the street. Complement your meal with one of their artfully crafted cocktails or mocktails featuring fresh farmer’s market produce, homegrown garnishes and in-house specialty items. Seating is limited, so reservations are always recommended.

Immerse yourself in this field of lights

Colorful lights cover hill at dusk

Once the sun goes down, head to Sensorio to experience an enchanting light display with over 100,000 lights illuminating 15 hilly acres. Powered entirely by 92 solar panels, each fiber optic stem shifts in color under the gentle breeze. The Field of Light in Paso Robles is master artist Bruce Munro’s largest installation in the world with a focus on the intersection of art, technology and nature.

While at Sensorio, make sure to visit their other exhibits – Light Towers, Gone Fishing and their newest addition, Dimensions. Each exhibit greets visitors with a unique experience that is not to be missed.

As your 24-hours  Paso Robles  itinerary draws to a close, you’ll find yourself reflecting on a day brimming with charm, flavor and discovery. This city is more than just a destination, it’s a place where every experience is crafted with care and every visit leaves you yearning for more. Come visit and uncover the wonders of Paso Robles – a true SLO CAL haven.

Interactive wine tastings highlight Paso Robles harvest season

Interactive wine tastings highlight Paso Robles harvest season

– Hope Family Wines will offer interactive tasting experiences at its two Paso Robles locations in September as part of California Wine Month. The experiences, designed by Director of Hospitality Jo Armstrong in collaboration with Owner-Winemaker Austin Hope and Director of Vineyards Stasi Seay, invite participants to become winemakers for a day.

The first experience, “Berry Sensory Analysis,” will take place at the new Hope on Park tasting room in downtown Paso Robles. Patrons will taste a variety of wine grapes straight from the vineyard and learn how to assess fruit ripeness by analyzing factors such as pulp, seeds, and skins. Participants will also learn how to take “brix” measurements to determine grape sugar content. The experience concludes with a curated tasting flight of Austin Hope wines and costs $75.

The second experience, “Brix Testing,” will be held at the Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellar in the Templeton Gap District. Attendees will receive fresh cabernet sauvignon grape juice and a hydrometer to measure the brix, which indicates fruit sugar ripeness. This experience is also followed by a curated tasting flight of Austin Hope wines and is priced at $25.

Armstrong described the experiences as a way to celebrate the local grape harvest and involve patrons in the winemaking process. “These are one-of-a-kind tasting experiences that draw you into the excitement of the season.”

The experiences can be reserved throughout September by visiting HopeFamilyWines.com or by contacting the respective tasting rooms at [email protected] and (805) 238-4112 for the Austin Hope & Treana Tasting Cellar, or [email protected] and (805) 591-0744 for Hope on Park.
